Speaker 6 (01:44):
Anyways.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
So nineteen years, we've gone through some great times in
this show. It's really evolved and changed over the years.
Some captains have come to god, like the legendary Boucher
Smith was with day number one.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yeah, and he.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Decided to retire a couple of years ago. So some
new blood on the show. But in case you guys
don't know, my guy at the right, he's the host
of the thirty nine year.

Speaker 6 (02:09):
A few More.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Beatle Brush, a Nashally syndicated radio show all about the Beatles,
which is just I love the show.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Thank you man, app sure fan, huge fan. Man, Well,
thanks a lot. It's it's been a labor of love too.
You know, you know I'm not getting rich over there.
You know. In fact, I got my I look at
my pace up. It was like eleven cents. We know, Rady,
it will pay like it used to eleven cents. I'm like,
we're going to make Mickey Deese and getting a straw.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Yeah, there you go, man, Welcome back to the show, Joe,
thanks for having Joe. Hecktoright now is on the beach
in Papolo doing his Summer Slam series. Yeah, this is
a big one when they put out the big money
and he's had my fifty five kayakers at fire. He
may stream in live a little later on the show
and do that. Special guests coming up on the show,
Doctor Spencer kell oggative received Miami. Oh yeah, the charity

(02:57):
fishing celebrity tournament coming up, which you'll talk a little
about later on.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah, we're going to talk to him just before eight o'clock,
So keep listening with details on the greatest sports fishing
event ever with prizes and cash and all that good stuff.

Speaker 6 (03:10):
And celebrities and you name it whatever. Man.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
So this guy's name is Jimbo Thomas Joe. He's first
in the shoot every weekend, and normally Joe doesn't kind
of a I don't know, lame sing along intro to Jimbo.
So I'm gonna just bring him on, just normal shout.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Jimbo, come on, I'll just bring him on. So you
got a back door, bring him in.

Speaker 6 (03:29):
Back tory. He's been there, the one, the only, the
fire Jimbo.

Speaker 7 (03:34):
Jim that was great.

Speaker 8 (03:39):
I like that way better.

Speaker 6 (03:40):
You like that better. I'm glad you.

Speaker 8 (03:42):
Yeah, I learned that back door remark.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Well, well, just because we're in the back of the studio,
we're all the way to the back.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
We know you very well Jimbo anyway, So.

Speaker 8 (03:51):
Yeah, well they're lucky they even let Eric that far.
That's for sure. Hey, so you need to behave Eric.
I got your boss on board the boat already. We're
getting ready to leave right now. So if you misbehave,
I'm gonna.

Speaker 6 (04:05):
Let her know who's the boss.

Speaker 8 (04:07):
It's for her. So I gave you that much. You
got blonde hair, Okay, you do work at her family's
boat Center boat store.

Speaker 6 (04:18):
Oh you got Christy Wiremore on the boat today. I
do no kidding a little fireball.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Huh wow, she's a yeah angler, Okay, quite the individual.

Speaker 6 (04:27):
I mind it. Yeah, I work to this person he's
talking about.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yeah, is she gonna spill the beans on you? Once
they get seven miles off shore?

Speaker 6 (04:34):
Figure beer this morning? She certainly will.

Speaker 8 (04:38):
Really nothing nothing we don't already know. It's old news.
But uh, we're fishing in the Police Benevolent Association PBA
Dolphin Tournament today, okay. And it looks like it's going
to be flat, calm and there's gonna be four hundred
thousand boats out, but that's okay, will prevail.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Hey, what does does the Saharan dust do anything to
the fish fishing?

Speaker 8 (05:09):
I don't think.

Speaker 9 (05:10):
So.

Speaker 8 (05:10):
It's been real, you know you you're here. So it's
been real, like gray, overcast out even though it's been sunny.
I had some guests out yesterday from North Carolina and
they're like, man, it's clear skies. Why is it so overcast?
And said it's the Saharan dust. And you know, if
you're not from down here, you don't know anything about
that stuff. And so, yes, it's it's been very gray.

(05:32):
I don't think it really affects the fishing any but
you know, I could be wrong.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Who knows.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
It's like a weed line going all from Winsendo, Florida.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
We definitely yeah, yeah, they're good.

Speaker 8 (05:46):
We like we like weed lines, not grass scattered from
Miami to Biminy. That's what we've had lately. Weed lines
are good. Scattered grass no good. But the fish has
been all right the last few days. Is you know,
we had tsunami weather the first few days, so none
of us really made it out. The rain doesn't really

(06:08):
affect the fish too much since they were already wet,
but it does affect us fishermen. But yesterday a number
of us made it out. Fishing was so so there
was a number of dolphin caught, so that's encouraging for
our dolphin tournament today. The biggest one I heard was
about a thirty pounder and the boatm have just been

(06:31):
kind of out of nowhere, so we got a couple
of them trolling around scattered grass, and then we put
those kites up with the life bates and we had
a couple more dolphin bites doing that. Our biggest one
was maybe fourteen pounds yesterday. It's not terrible bet, but
so otherwise there's been an occasional sale and an occasional kingfish,

(06:54):
and there's still a chance at a black fintuna. I
don't think there's going to be any kite fishing today,
at least not in the morning, as dead calm as
it is, but that makes it nice for hunting for dolphin.
Like what we're doing. You can see everything. You can
see all the floating de breeze. Sometimes if there's a
big one, you can see him pushing awake. You can
see the birds from a long ways away. So it's

(07:18):
not bad for dolphin fishing or hunt dolphin this flat
calm weather.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
I take you Jim Baum, an expert of catching blackfin tuna.
I mentioned my trip two weeks ago on the Double
D with the Dean.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Don't you know?

Speaker 8 (07:29):
You say you, But I believe Dean is you just
happened to be a passenger on board his boat and
you just turned the real handle. So it's not really you,
it's the captain.

Speaker 6 (07:41):
Come on, so I have no skill whatsoever.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
Cricket five hundred yards alive off a kite and bringing
it a thirty five pound you know, monster tuna right
to the boat.

Speaker 8 (07:50):
Notice, yeah, you know Dean told me, like, you know,
the average woman that he has out can land those
tunas in about five minutes, and it took you like
fifteen minutes. And yeah you're complaining that your wrist was
getting sore, and yeah, he's like, man, what what kind
of angler do I have here?

Speaker 3 (08:08):
Which way do we all?

Speaker 4 (08:10):
Joe, we're trying to have a show, really light lively
nineteenth in the rest reym make it all very happy
and non discible, by the way, and he takes his
first shot of the morning saying that any any chick
that this was with me, by the way, but any
girl can out reel.

Speaker 6 (08:25):
Me on a fish. Okay, so that's part of your shot.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
And closer, that's your thing. Let's see how you do it.

Speaker 6 (08:31):
Is that my thing?

Speaker 3 (08:32):
That's your day? Come over here, help me with this
reel this pole anyway?

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Jus So what are you and miss Wireborg targeting? You
said this tournament? What's the main species.

Speaker 8 (08:42):
As a dolphin? Mahi's, dorado's, whatever you want to call them.

Speaker 6 (08:46):
Okay, so, uh, we're.

Speaker 8 (08:47):
Pulling out of the hard the slip as we speak.
I've actually got an all female crew today. Oh cool,
So I brushed my teeth and tomb my hair, so.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
I look, pressure your teeth, will you, Joe, I did
that too.

Speaker 8 (09:03):
I shaved shaved my tongue.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
That's the first nasty thought of the morning. So when
you saw talking to Christy this morning, tell her that
Eric could use a big fat raise back at the
place that we're in.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
Yeah. Yeah, and a couple of more leads would be great.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
You know boat leads they set on your twentieth anniversary,
they'll talk about twentieth.

Speaker 8 (09:23):
Yeah. Yeah, you know. I heard you say radio is
not like it used to be. Well, I'm sure selling
boats and actually charter fishing is not like it used
to be either, so get used to it.

Speaker 6 (09:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (09:35):
You know.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
I actually spent morning these balloons that I made a
boat commissions.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Last week, and you got to give them back for
the sixty You.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
Gotta go back to public and say, listen, I don't
like these because I just give them money back.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Publics has that one hundred year warranty man. Anything that
is not pleasing to you, they'll give you back Jimbo's money.

Speaker 6 (09:56):
And by the way, Jimmo will test this too.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Joe, A lot of guys that have parties and they
have like five thousand balloons, right done, and they release
those right good. Now, Jim, I will tell you that.

Speaker 6 (10:05):
That is the worst thing in the world, because why Jimbo,
those balloons do.

Speaker 8 (10:08):
What They end up in the ocean and then turtles
eat them, yep, and they wash up on the beach
and wherever else. So it's just more more pollution that
we got to deal with.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
But it's a boy we want everybody to know.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
Yeah, well yeah, balloon that's made out of I don't know,
freaking teflaan or something. Anyway, Jim, I have a great day, man,
first in a shoot, nineteenth anniversary. You've been a part
of the show now for at least I think ten eleven,
twelve years, so you're we appreciate you brought big time
man for sure.

Speaker 8 (10:40):
Ah, you gotta spend a lot of fun and hopefully
more to come.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Are you gonna take one shot of me to them?
Very very nicely, very kindly, only took one pop. We've
got an hour and fifty minutes left to find more
lots of dirt the Brandon, Thank you, Joe. Jim will
have a great day, buddy. We catch them up man.

Speaker 8 (10:55):

Speaker 3 (11:09):
The way, I hear that's a good question.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
It's quite tailored towards you.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
I might add, that's a very honorable thing.

Speaker 6 (11:15):
Thank you. You're a very honorable guy.

Speaker 4 (11:17):

did like twenty seven.

Speaker 6 (16:31):
How long are you the Joe?

Speaker 3 (16:32):
I was there, Yeah, like twenty seven, twenty eight.

Speaker 6 (16:35):
Yeah, yeah, so grave memories back.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
You know, I left and I never clocked out. Waitly
you see my.

Speaker 6 (16:41):
Wow, they got a big check coming, so fresh water time.

Speaker 22 (16:44):
Joe.

Speaker 6 (16:44):
Maybe you've met this gentleman. Maybe you have not.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
He's our great expert now Corey Norokowski, he's the snakehead
record holder. Wow, eight times over so far. Some guy
recently skanked his record by catching some suspicious fish we've
talked about in the program. And he's a great laugh.
He doesn't laugh often, but he's a great laugh. H Cory,

(17:06):
do you want to tell you buddy?

Speaker 7 (17:09):
Good morning? How you guys doing?

Speaker 4 (17:11):
You all said, very happy, Cory, it's our anniversary show.
We don't work a little sparky maybe yeah, you know.

Speaker 7 (17:17):
Yeah, I gotta I gotta you mentioned that fish again,
so I started laughing again.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
So anyway, so Joe Shah had a Cory Man you
got say, hey, what's having.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
Good to see you buddy? How you doing good, good, good.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
What do you got for us?

Speaker 7 (17:34):
Well, it's uh, it was been a pretty good week.
I have to say, Uh snakeheads that's can't can't really
go wrong with that right now. That was really the
highlight of the week. Also, uh out in the Everglades
bass fish that's been really good too.

Speaker 8 (17:54):
For size.

Speaker 7 (17:55):
Maybe not as much as numbers riving fishing, but the
size was really good. I have to say the one
day snakehead fish and had I caught a lot of
a really good fish. We got fish up twelve pounds,
probably about three or four that were at least ten pounds.

(18:16):
The wildest thing of the day though, was catching a
clown knife fish on a frog that was about a
nine was about a nine pound or two, so it
wasn't a small fish, but that was wild. I've never
done that before. That was kind of out of a
out of nowhere.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
So that actually the cloud knifefish came up on the
top of the water Corey and slammed that frog on
top as you're yanking it along the surface.

Speaker 7 (18:39):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I thought it was I thought it
was either a snakehead or a large amount pass and
it came up and like whoa I was. I was
really surprised on that one. I've never had that happen before.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
When I saw your Facebook post. You're actually holding that
cloud knife fish, that's the one you caught it a frog?

Speaker 7 (18:59):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've got yeah, yeah, yeah, No, it's
a good you know, that's a that's a good sized fish.
I've caught him bigger, but that's you know, that's that's
a very nice fish. And catch on a frog is
kind of mind blowing. I've had a couple of pictures
in there of the hook actually being in the you know,

(19:20):
the clown knife fish with the frog there. So yeah,
it was pretty wild.

Speaker 6 (19:25):
You want to ask them a question? Job about these snakeheads? Are? Yeah, well,
knife fish.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
What's the benefit of it of the snakehead? Tell us
about it?

Speaker 7 (19:33):
Well, the snakehead is a it's a it's an exotic
fish here in South Florida. They were they've been here
for thirty plus years. First when they were here, they
were known that they were looked at as a very
bad Fish's changed over time. They're really not as bad
as everybody you know thinks they are or thought they were.

(19:53):
But they are a great fish to catch. They fight hard.
They hit top wire like none else in fresh water.
It's more similar to a snook. It's just they are
a pile of fun. If you've ever done it, or
if you ever if you haven't done it, I should
say it's something you should always you should do. It's

(20:14):
it's it's a it's a very fun fish to catch,
especially when you get a good size one. You get
some seven eight plus pounds, nine ten pounds, hold on,
they're they're a heck of a fight.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
So John neighborhood a plantation by the way, Yeah, you
got random canals here. Okay, we got the lakes and canals.
You can actually go the Corey will tell you, or
I'll tell you whatever. These snakeheadfish live under under the
ledges of these canal banks. Right, Okay, So you toss
the frog maybe up on the bank a little bit
and it just kind of wheedl it off and then

(20:46):
just kind of like let it hit the water and
start reeling. That snake it will actually ambushes. Corey will
tell you he's expert, not me, by the way, Well,
ambush that frog and you're having a fight of your life,
like a three ways. Yep, you the frog in the
stake pretty much.

Speaker 7 (20:59):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's it's very it's like
combat fishing. It's very you know, you're doing a lot
of casts and you're doing a lot you know, you're
using heavy tackle a lot of times too, because you
know where these guys like to sit. You can get
them an open water, but where they like to sit
and they like to sit under trees, docks, like overhang
stuff like that. Sure, you know it's but they are

(21:21):
a lot of fun to catch. Probably the hardest fresh
water fighting fish we have here in South Florida, better
than a peacock bass, though there's a guy.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
With a ten pound test alte have a chance to
even get one. I mean, is is that just too light?
You have to use seriously heavy heavy tackle every.

Speaker 7 (21:38):
Yeah, in most situations. Yet you're you're not going to
but you can do it. I have done it before,
but you really have to. You got to fish areas
that like open water unless you know snags and structure
where they're gonna because what they're gonna do, like a snook,
They're just they're going to run you right into a
tree or the down tree or some free in the water.

(22:00):
And what they do too is they death roll like
a gator.

Speaker 6 (22:04):
So what they'll do is okay, So.

Speaker 7 (22:06):
What they'll do is they'll when they get hung in something.
Usually if like they go right into a tree, let's
just say, they'll they'll start death rolling, they get away
and they'll snap that line. So you really you can
do it. But like I said, you got a fish.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
Open water if you need a light line, right, well,
best time talking about some peacock largemouth's popping that way.

Speaker 7 (22:27):
Well, the large mouths were very good too. I went
one day, took my father out and we we we
didn't catch a ton of fish, but we're the ones
we caught. We got them up to eight pounds, we
got we got an eight seven and a half, two
sevens and two six pounders as well, so we really

(22:50):
got into some nice fish.

Speaker 8 (22:51):
It was all in this.

Speaker 7 (22:52):
Little area though. It was like a little it was
like a roadbed type thing where it was like a
ledge off the roadbed and we just we we caught
some great fish, all on plastic worms, twelve inch plastic worms,
and then we got one on a sixteen inch worm too.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
A sixteen inch worm. Did you realize how large that
worm is? Joe, He's bragging to the other it's over
a foot long worm's I mean, that's just a giant.

Speaker 6 (23:19):
It's like a thought of snake out there to be there.
You go, you know what I mean? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (23:23):
Yeah, wow, yeah.

Speaker 7 (23:24):
This time year is great. This time year is great
for that for worm. That sixteen inch worm is a
worm actually that my dad makes. It's long along with
the frogs that we make. So if anybody ever wont something,
you know, just give me a holler and I can
set it up.

Speaker 6 (23:38):
I don't really want any but a dove question for Corey.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
We know that the lures, Wrappaos and other brands Joe
Johnson tackle is expensive. I mean you hate to lose
the lower the cost you twenty bucks each for sure.
You used to get it for like a you know,
two bucks, three bucks. What's an eighteen inch plastic worm
going for? Just had a curiosity.

Speaker 7 (23:57):
Uh, normally for warm that size, they're normally like, well,
let's say it's twelve inch, like a Zoom, which is
usually another one that I use. I think those are
like seven dollars for.

Speaker 6 (24:09):
Five Oh okay bad?

Speaker 7 (24:12):
Yeah wow, ours, I think it's try to remember that
size of that worm. The price I can't remember off top.
I think it's like I think it's like a I forgot.

Speaker 23 (24:26):
I think it's like you guys got a dump dump
dump dump dump.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
Dump dump dump up beca we call it. Yeah, so
they they're not as pricey as a rapper of foot
that way, Joe's probably the most inexpensive lord you use
is throwing up plastic plastic worm okay, yeah, or in
your case, just take some red balls and splosh them
together on a small hook and just thought some bread.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Balls, put them down the straw time to kind of
with a match, kind of melted.

Speaker 4 (24:51):
Yeah, that would work. Yet, Joe, try that sometime. We
give it a good good shot film with that, all right, Cory,
last question, what of the hot spots glades, local canals?
I know, where are you heading that to these days?

Speaker 7 (25:06):
So for the baths, Uh, it's it's definitely the Everglades.
That's where, you know, That's where I had the best action,
Like the northern part of the Evergladesh up by like
Lake Okechobe, some of those canals out there and stuff,
and then Snakeheads. It was more like urban type canals

(25:26):
like North Lardale stuff like that, and end up at
Boca as well. We were doing pretty good as well.
So but it's a good It was a good time.
Granted that one day it was raining, so that's always
a good thing with Snakeheads.

Speaker 8 (25:39):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (25:39):
You get a good cloudy, little light rain and that's
always the best. But yeah, it's good if you can
deal with the heat. It's a good time here right now.

Speaker 6 (25:51):
It's been staking.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Right you can't even go out to get the paper.
That's why they put it on the digital exactly.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
Think you very much. Stay outside. Read the line on
your well. Cory hey man, bring us strong with us,
thanksgiving me with us on the show. You've been here
with us less than not three or four five month style.
You bring it strong, and I hope you break that
Snakehead record. Recapture your record because I want to see
you own nothing again and not that other dude by
the way, Uh going through, make make it number nine

(26:19):
if you would.

Speaker 7 (26:20):
Okay, I, well we're gonna try, all right, what happens.

Speaker 6 (26:25):
Thanks so much, buddy, Okay, appreciate you all.

Speaker 7 (26:27):
Right, have a good one.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
So if you just tune in, it's our nineteenth anniversary show.
To my right, my great friend of many many years
in magic one of two point seven. Joe Johnson, you
used to have a show called Jukebox Saturday Night. Oh
that was That was one of the most fun shows I've.

Speaker 6 (26:42):
Ever heard in my life.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
I should bring it next time.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
Just you tore that thing up with all kinds of
drop ins and sound effects, and that was with digital.
It was like fire that cart. You know, Oh, dely
folks who are a radio understay with carts. Means that's
sort of like it looks like an eight track, uh
cassette kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
A fire instantly, So you put them in the little machine. Yeah, man,
you hit that they're playing.

Speaker 6 (27:04):
But that show is great, man, bang a great show.
Beatlem brushed out.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
If you want to know about the Beatles, I mean
he's interviewed every one of them, and we've learned so
many cool things behind the scenes about the Beatles for
ever and ever, and one thing we learned about the
fact none of those guys are worth a damn fishing.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
Yeah that's true. Well you got a question coming up
about that.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
I do, But I'm saying there is none of those
guys really written outdoor sports too much, though.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
Not too much. No, there's a couple of pictures with them.
They wearing like a sweater with stripes and they're pretend
with a hat and they're like doing a waltz. Yeah,
that's about the most they got to exercise.

Speaker 4 (27:39):
They were doing really good with the hookah too for
a while. The yeah, exactly so over in India. In India,
I'll take a little breaking back and see what's up

not very much fun. Wayne saw what's happening in the
reward fleet?

Speaker 9 (34:04):
What do you go?

Speaker 6 (34:04):
Ana read on it, buddy.

Speaker 31 (34:06):
All right, guys, well, I think I think you a
quick picture. Sir Charles one of my regulars, he fishes
for mutton snappers, a lot he got he got a
beautiful red snapper yesterday.

Speaker 6 (34:16):
I think I saw the picture I saw.

Speaker 31 (34:18):
Yeah. You know, over the years, you have been bottom
fishing off Miami for over fifty years and really focusing
on quite a bit learning it. But we never used
to have the volume of red snappers that we've had
the last five or six years. Bouncer Smith and I
have caught I mean at times we were able to
catch them at will, and the problem is you can't
always you know, depending on whether you find him in

(34:40):
state waters federal waters, whether they're legal or not. You
got to really pay attention. So it's one of those
species that needs to be managed. I think a little
different in our area. But that being said, there's more
more around in Miami than I've ever seen. There's times
when we catch a handful of really you know, a
nice one, and you're allowed one per person in state waters,
you're allowed non in federal water. So as I said,

(35:03):
you know, you got to be mindful of where you're
fishing them. Because the folks will check you out there, No,
I'll check you out there for sure. Game will check
you as well. So you just got to know what
your rules and REGs are. So what's going on now?
We are transitioning a lot into you know, we have
seasonal things happening still, and the night night fishing is
going to come into its own real soon. This coming

(35:23):
full moon could be the signal of it. I've always
felt I ran a lot of years night fishing, well.
I was doing day and night fishing. Was one of
those guys back then. But anyway, I think what coincide
with mangrove snappers move into the offshore reefs and spawning
off Miami had a lot to do with the fresh
water when they open up the dams. It seemed to
me that was more of a signal. I'm not an ichthyologist,

(35:46):
but but I do know, like I said, I spent
the hard time on the water, and we would go
from we would go from catching mango snappers in twelve
to twenty foot of water and a lot of them
let's say, off the Fount Blue area and all up
in the area between Haliver And and downtown Miami, and
then then within a night or two, they would move
offshore in droves on the outside refline, and that's where

(36:09):
they get together and spawn and and uh, that's been
going on forever, so we expect that to be happening
real soon. We got the full moon in a couple
of days. I'm not a full moon fisherman as far
as mangroves go. I think they turn off during the moon.
Anybody that really fishes for them would say that. But
it's a miss. It's an absolute falsehood that they fire

(36:30):
up on the moon. They bite really weird on a
full moon. I think they're too busy. I think they're spawning.
But the other species, now, the other snappers off Miami
yellow eye snappers per million snappers we've had the last
two seasons have been slower three three three seasons ago,
this time of the year, we were killing yellow eye
snappers and vermillion snappers and one hundred and eighty two

(36:53):
hundred feet of water. You can mark you just mark
clouds on the bottom and drop down, drop down. The
old chicken rig, your old favorite, a favorite eric high
tech high tech stuff. You know, two hooks on a
big sinker. You know what chicken rig is Joe, chicken
rig is no is it?

Speaker 4 (37:11):
Chicken rig is a line okay, with a weight at
the bottom right, and it's got like four or five, six,
seven hooks all tied on the group like fourish increments
whatever else.

Speaker 31 (37:25):
It depends upon how many you want to untangle.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
Yeah, that's how many hooks you put on exactly right right,
and each one of those hooks and you probably bring
a string of fish of like be four, five or
six you can break a whole hole.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
Yeah, man, oh yeah, you want to drop one doesn't
let drop? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (37:40):
Yeah, And they just sometimes tangle up a little bit,
but yeah, they're great to have.

Speaker 6 (37:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 31 (37:44):
Wait, yeah, we used to we used to call them
horror rigs. But anyway that that could easily be building
up off off Miami.

Speaker 22 (37:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 31 (37:51):
I had t shirts made one time with the line
through the chicken rigs saying no chicken rigs allowed on
this Tangles are horrendous. Man. Now you got to get
out the sties and start texting.

Speaker 6 (38:01):
Have your mates crazy? Man? So uh, you guys heading
out today the vote heading out today in the.

Speaker 31 (38:06):
Take absolutely a matter of fact, yours truly. I gotta
I gotta shoot, I gotta get out of here. Now
I got to run the boat today and all day
so great, so fishing guys, Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right,
so again Lily Downtown Miami Reward Fishing Fleet, nine am departure,
one forty five departure and on down. Let's go fishing.

Speaker 6 (38:26):
And Dad's bringing on Joe thirteen undergoing for free. How
about that for us?

Speaker 31 (38:30):
Yeah, fifty bucks, fifty bucks for residents. So he can't
beat it. So we're gonna have a Father's Day specials
next weekend. So uh, come on down. Okay, might as well.
What's better to do? Take your dad fishing?

Speaker 6 (38:43):
Right, you got it?

Speaker 4 (38:44):
Thank you, Wayne Man, have a great weekend, buddy Man,
John Wayne, thank you very much.

Speaker 6 (38:49):
All right, Joe, So it's time to go down below
the sea.

Speaker 4 (38:51):
We have a guy here I just have named Itick
named him doctor Brainhole. And I'll tell you why. I
say that he likes to spear fish, and I'm always
picking on him for putting spears through fish's brain holes.
I'm gonna make a fan of the spear thing, but
there's a sights to it, and he's quite the master
at it, by the way. He also in lobsters are

(39:13):
in season, He's the bug king. He is the bloom yeh.

Speaker 6 (39:18):
Jim Mathew, Jim Matthew.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
Normally Joe Hagger does the blok thing. I'll just do
the blipp blip. Joe join in a little blipping, a
little bluff. You're not peddling enough, can you, little boopy? Well,
Jim CHV Matthew, you get one of their assassin sir.

Speaker 22 (39:38):
Yes, sir, who's blowing bubbles? That's what I want to know.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
That was Bunny me today, blowing bubbles and blowing smoke.
Man anyway, he's so smoke every day. Well, Jim, thankfully
your phones on a helium today. You sound pretty dark
normal man?

Speaker 22 (39:51):
You okay?

Speaker 6 (39:52):
Good?

Speaker 33 (39:52):
Good?

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Really you don't sound I love you.

Speaker 6 (40:00):
You know you guys looked on this. Joe Jim, Jim
Joe h boy.

Speaker 34 (40:04):
All right, so let me give you the good stuff first,
all right, sir, the good stuff. The good stuff is
last Saturday, I spoke to you y'all, and I went
out and I froze my butt off.

Speaker 9 (40:14):
It was cold.

Speaker 34 (40:15):
We had these upwellings. I know I've been saying, oh man,
it's been getting nice.

Speaker 22 (40:20):
It's been like almost eighty degrees. Eighty degrees.

Speaker 34 (40:23):
I'm down to a three mil wet suit instead of
the five mil wet suit. I'm like, oh, this is great. Well,
last week I'm driving off of Boca and I couldn't
get below forty feet.

Speaker 22 (40:34):
I was freezing. Holy up. Well you can literally see
it in the water.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
Uh.

Speaker 22 (40:39):
And and the crappy visibility.

Speaker 34 (40:42):
I did chase a nice black grouper, but he was
smarter than me, so that happens.

Speaker 6 (40:46):
Yes, thank god, Yes I'll run them as rip.

Speaker 22 (40:49):
Yeah, fish a fisture smarter than me. But yeah, it
was pretty good.

Speaker 34 (40:55):
Uh but yeah, we were blowing bubbles and it was cold,
and uh, you know.

Speaker 22 (40:59):
We're but the good news. And here's the good news.

Speaker 34 (41:02):
It's gotten nice, it's gotten Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous.

Speaker 22 (41:07):
Yeah, beautiful visibility, back to the eighty degrees.

Speaker 34 (41:10):
Nice south current for the most part. And you're ready
for this one. My buddy Andy did it again. He
speared a fifty.

Speaker 4 (41:19):
Inch gossh kingfish.

Speaker 22 (41:22):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 34 (41:24):
So he's on the third reef, he's hanging at like
fifty sixty feet, you know, kind of like midwater column
type of thing, and he sees a whole school go by.
He picks out the biggest one. We just don't see.
We don't see very many. We don't get an opportunity
to shoot a lot of of those bigger fish like that.

Speaker 22 (41:41):
Most of them are reefish.

Speaker 9 (41:43):
You know.

Speaker 34 (41:43):
We're looking for hawk fish, grouper, snapper. And by the way,
the mutton snapper bite's been on pretty good. It looks
really good and we've been getting some nice ones.

Speaker 4 (41:52):
Wait wait, yeah, wait, wait wait yeah wait, you said
the mutt snapper.

Speaker 6 (41:57):
You haven't had a rod in your hand, and in
ten you met the mutt.

Speaker 4 (42:02):
The mutton spearing brainhole collections been going great, gym, that's
what you really met. Don't go bite, you don't beat nothing.
Bite your area.

Speaker 34 (42:12):
They bite, they bite, They bite after you spear them.

Speaker 6 (42:15):
Yeah, a hopefully take a finger off.

Speaker 3 (42:20):
How close to them do you get with your spear gun?

Speaker 35 (42:23):
Uh?

Speaker 34 (42:24):
You know, it depends on your gun. That depends on
the range of your gun.

Speaker 8 (42:28):
Uh.

Speaker 22 (42:29):
Typically I'm within ten feet. I don't have a reel
on my gun. I just don't think I'm not that good.
So you know, I gotta sneak up on him.

Speaker 15 (42:38):
You know.

Speaker 6 (42:39):
That's why I say, it's not that.

Speaker 22 (42:41):
It's not that easy, Eric, It's not that easy.

Speaker 34 (42:43):
So yeah, so, but I do have a co spear gun.
I'm a big firm believer of him. He's up there
in Palm City now used to be up on the
rear beach.

Speaker 22 (42:55):
So yeah, a good guy.

Speaker 6 (43:00):
Ye just plugging a plugging.

Speaker 34 (43:02):
And I've been very fortunate to know John uh that
the owner of Cola for a very very long time,
and he really makes a quality product, local US America
made type.

Speaker 22 (43:14):
Of deal, so really really good stuff. And uh but yeah,
it depends.

Speaker 34 (43:19):
I mean, some guys, you know, they don't have the
range and they got to get a little closer. Most
everyone's carrying about forty eight to fifty two inch spear gun,
which is a pretty good size.

Speaker 22 (43:32):
And it depends on the bands.

Speaker 34 (43:35):
I use gurly bands because I can't pull them back
so far. Uh but you know, he's still got to
get in there, and you got to you gotta aim
it and shoot it. And you know, fish identification. And
by the way, there's a really good book Eric we
should be promoting.

Speaker 4 (43:50):
Here we go go ahead, shilled out there, Jimmy.

Speaker 22 (43:54):
Catching this spear it, catching this spear.

Speaker 9 (43:57):
Get it, you know, get it spear And.

Speaker 34 (44:00):
It's on Amazon, so it's really good or you get,
you know, go to my website chief dot net.

Speaker 6 (44:04):
So it's a great birdcage liner.

Speaker 4 (44:11):
You put the pages of that stop holes.

Speaker 3 (44:20):
Can you put a site on those spear guns?

Speaker 33 (44:22):
No?

Speaker 34 (44:23):
No, you know there was one guy that tried some
kind of a laser pointer thing of a jigger. Yeah,
that's the easy quite honestly. Spearing is the easiest part
of the whole thing. It's a matter of fish identification.
And then listen, you see thousands of fish down there.
You got to figure out which ones you want to eat.
And then after you go, oh, look at that mutton snapper,

(44:45):
you's got to be eighteen inches overall length.

Speaker 31 (44:48):
That's the difficult part.

Speaker 4 (44:50):
Your break, your brain, whole time is over, okay, so
go all right.

Speaker 34 (44:53):
Listen, I'm going out today and going out tomorrow because
the conditions are going to be outstanding.

Speaker 4 (45:17):
Fun, all right, Jim, thanks very much, take that last
breath and hold it for about a week.

Speaker 6 (45:21):

two pich. So Betty, you're saying that Sean cares more
about one of that thing the talking on this radio
show with his great friends.

Speaker 6 (01:04:25):
Is that what you're saying.

Speaker 46 (01:04:27):
I mean, it's not like being in a boat tournament.
It's hard to pick up the phone from a kayak.
We'll give him some credit, Okay, right enough.

Speaker 4 (01:04:34):
Anyway, So, while it's been kind of sketchy this week,
a lot of rain showers came through. I don't have
her captives or or shall act of that stuff. Did
you guys have a decent week or what?

Speaker 9 (01:04:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 46 (01:04:43):
Yeah, we pulled off at least the morning trip every
morning this week, which was great for us.

Speaker 9 (01:04:48):
The afternoon we.

Speaker 46 (01:04:49):
Did cancel a few, So it's, uh, you know, it
was tough dealing with the weather. This whole year has
been a whole weather you know, the backle cancering trip
starting in the beginning of the year with our Christmas
break to all the way till now, and we'll be
dealing with it all summer with the afternoon storms.

Speaker 9 (01:05:08):
You know.

Speaker 6 (01:05:08):
Yeah, Oh, what's but your hottest bite? What do you
think lately?

Speaker 46 (01:05:12):
What's popping so I'd say the Kingfish had a nice
couple of rushes the past week or two where we
were able to get a few few trips with a
bunch of fish people catching their limits worth of kings.

Speaker 9 (01:05:26):
But it's still been very fishy.

Speaker 46 (01:05:28):
I mean, we've been going out there catching multiple species
on one trip right now, usually kings and tune has
been the hot topic. Still, there's still been a good
amount of mahi around. You just got to run off
shore and find them.

Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
And schools have been.

Speaker 46 (01:05:42):
Pretty plentiful, so it's still pretty productive.

Speaker 9 (01:05:45):
Man.

Speaker 6 (01:05:46):
You know Joe, so Benny a curveball and ask him
something off whack.

Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
There, Benny. Do you ever eat fish off a kayak?

Speaker 8 (01:05:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:05:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:05:56):
So I used to sell bait.

Speaker 8 (01:06:01):
With with with.

Speaker 9 (01:06:03):
Another bait guy to some of Joe Hector's.

Speaker 46 (01:06:06):
You know kayak fishermen, and we used to sell them
bait during the during the tournament. So one day I
saw them going out I was selling them bait, and
I said, man, I would go do that, And sure
enough I did it a couple of years in a row,
and I did pretty good. I won a couple and
ranked in a couple and got some of those big
fake checks myself.

Speaker 3 (01:06:24):
How do you how do you paddle when you got
some when you got a big prize in the back
of the kayaking.

Speaker 46 (01:06:30):
So so those kayaks got foot pedals.

Speaker 6 (01:06:33):
Ah, that's right, yep.

Speaker 46 (01:06:35):
So they got those good nautical ventures hoby kayaks with
the foot pedals, your hands free out there paddling around
the first time I did go out there in one
of them kayak tournaments, somebody let me borrow one of
their kind of cheap o kayaks and I went out
there trying to paddle around all day with the hand paddles,

(01:06:56):
and I still caught like a big mahi. I still
ranked in the tournament. And that was the one tournament
that got me to go back. It gave me the
little kayak fixed for the tournaments and give me a
little itch to go do it. And the very next
year I won Joe's Selfish tournament. So that was pretty cool,
very very cool.

Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
So Benny's got experience of a yak. This is called
the pedal driver, called the mirage drive. By the way,
that hope is I got exclusive pattons on and it
makes that thing. I mean, I can't even fathom Benny
being after the old school paddle trying to did that.

Speaker 46 (01:07:32):
I was like Sanford and Son going off the beach
with like bucket on the back that I used alive. Well,
I had like a milk rate that I stole from
a dumpster.

Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
Yeah dummy, Yeah, there you go outstanding. So, uh, Benny,
your clients are on both your bunch today. You got
to get a full full crew there or what.

Speaker 8 (01:07:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:07:53):
Yeah, both boats are going out right now.

Speaker 46 (01:07:54):
We actually got an eight hour on one boat and
we got four fours on the other boat, so we
got a jam pack day. Both boats are out there
right now. They said. The kayakers are out in full force.
That it's like their speed bumps all over the ocean
right now. So we're kind of looking out for them.
And uh yeah, I mean it's gonna be a busy
day out there.

Speaker 9 (01:08:15):
You guys are looking forward to seeing what's that.

Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
You have a points system out there, so if you
see a yacker in front of you and you aim
at them, if you get like ten points.

Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
I can't do that, man, Come on, he said, love,
he said low.

Speaker 46 (01:08:28):
I'm just just if this wasn't a nautical venture show,
we'd have a different comment about that.

Speaker 6 (01:08:33):
I'm just kidding.

Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
We're family friendly, all right, Betty Saw, I'll just sprag
a little bit. I did go tuna fish in two
weeks ago with the Captain D Panels on a double
D and I must say that we had a phenomenal
uh trip. We got a couple of thirty pounders twenty
eight pounders.

Speaker 8 (01:08:47):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:08:47):
We caught them with that nice overcast sky Joe tuna
fish like. Its kind of like overcast.

Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
The dust, the hair and dust does that helping the I.

Speaker 4 (01:08:56):
Don't know if they like shahar and dust, but they
sure liked our bait and the benny. The tunas are
still out there. They still popping, man or what, Yeah,
they're still popping.

Speaker 46 (01:09:05):
I mean, I always say the warmer it gets, the
harder it gets to find them and catch them. They're
still going to be around. But you know, the more
we get into the summer, the tunas will be pretty
much down deeper. Your bites will come mostly the first
hour or two after the sun comes up, in the
last hour or two before the sun goes down, and
all throughout the midday. It becomes more of a grind

(01:09:27):
trying to find and catch the tunas. When it gets hotter,
you'll mark them down sometimes three hundred feet below the
surface out in three point fifty, So it's it becomes
a grind. It becomes a grind trying to catch them.
This time of the year, we'll be targeting them, you know,
by by ten o'clock in the morning, it gets warm
enough where we're fishing, you know, eight and ten ounce
LEDs dropping baits down one hundred or two hundred feet

(01:09:49):
below the surface, catching these tunas.

Speaker 6 (01:09:51):
Wow, dropped down for them, dropped out deeper.

Speaker 4 (01:09:54):
Yeah, yeahs sat All right, Well, Joe, you got a
last words for Benny before he goes like, how do
we get on order?

Speaker 6 (01:10:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:10:02):
Man, we want to take a trip. Where do we
find you?

Speaker 9 (01:10:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 46 (01:10:05):
Yeah, you can find us and give us. Giving us
a call directly is the best thing. Nine five four
seven zero six six five sixty five. And you can
look us up online at Benny's Fishing Charters dot com
or at Benny's Fishing Charters.

Speaker 9 (01:10:19):
On social media.

Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
You got a Facebook page there people can see some
of the stuff that's been going on.

Speaker 9 (01:10:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 46 (01:10:25):
Yeah, we got a Facebook page. We got an Instagram page.
We got my buddy Joe Meyer Jack with shark Bite
digital media that keeps up with all the posts for
us on both of the pages, so we try to
try to keep things flowing where, you know, I think
that's important. When people go to look you up, they
look at your social media these days and if you
ain't active.

Speaker 3 (01:10:45):
Is that how fishing has changed the most with the
electronic media and everybody get being able to get anywhere
kite fishing, and then all you know, there's a million
ways to get the word out.

Speaker 9 (01:10:56):
I guess yeah, yeah, especially these days.

Speaker 46 (01:10:59):
I mean it's not like you sit at your dock
and you wait for people to walk up anymore.

Speaker 9 (01:11:02):
Most of these people got their trips book before they.

Speaker 46 (01:11:04):
Even leave their house and their state that they're coming
to coming from.

Speaker 3 (01:11:08):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:11:09):
Last question Joe to Benny. He's he's a huge Panther fan. Benny,
Oh yeah, the edge of this matter?

Speaker 6 (01:11:16):
What do you think about it?

Speaker 31 (01:11:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 46 (01:11:18):
Yeah, I mean I was up. I watched the whole game.
I even it was it was tough getting up this
morning because of that. I was up till two in
the morning watching that game.

Speaker 6 (01:11:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
Wow, that's what time it ended or just all the.

Speaker 46 (01:11:30):
No, No, it might have ended around one something, but
by the time I got to bed, I'm saying yeah,
but it.

Speaker 6 (01:11:35):
Was action pack game.

Speaker 46 (01:11:36):
I mean Brad marsh and ending the game with a
breakaway slipping the second goal in.

Speaker 9 (01:11:42):
I think he's one of the.

Speaker 46 (01:11:43):
Top players in the league for Stanley Cup Final overtime goals.
I think that was like his fifth one last night.
But it was just like a blessing for the Panthers
to pick him up that late in the season, and
he gelled with the team so good. It's gonna be
a good series. I'm looking forward the seven games. Yeah,
I'm not even gonna go on a Limons say the
Panthers taken and less. And I won't even go on

(01:12:05):
the Limons say the Panthers take this one. It's gonna
be a battle with anyone's game.

Speaker 9 (01:12:09):
The Panthers. You know, it's gonna be a good one.

Speaker 3 (01:12:11):
Winning it here in South Florida would be great.

Speaker 4 (01:12:14):
Well that's yeah, Game six, Game six, Yeah, so just
you know, I mean, the only team right now is
doing a damn thing. The Dolphins suck, okay, the Heat
aren't doing jack. Okay, Marlin's are barely I think maybe
one hundred trash so trash. So the only team really
doing much is the guys on the ice man, you.

Speaker 6 (01:12:32):
Know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:12:33):
Yeah, this fast, fast.

Speaker 4 (01:12:35):
And fast wacky. I love when the battle out and
have one on one duke out. How come they're not
all in jail because it's legal to knocks with his
teeth out on an ice rink. Okay, just so you know. Okay,
all right, Benny, thanks so much, brother, have a great weekend.

Speaker 46 (01:12:49):

Speaker 6 (01:12:49):

Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
We have a Captain Vinnie Sachs on the y be normal, Joe, Vinnie, Vinnie, Joe, Hey, Vinnie.

Speaker 9 (01:18:29):
Hey, what's up? Annie? Hey?

Speaker 6 (01:18:32):
Good morning guys, Good morning Vinnie.

Speaker 4 (01:18:34):
So we've had some other days this week. I know
it caused a lot of our caps. I've talked to
some issues where they couldn't go out and fish. How
is your week, man, You find a few days to
go out there and snack a few?

Speaker 8 (01:18:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 47 (01:18:45):
We got out on Monday, did very very well on
the Dolphin. There was a nice weed line like eight
hundred and I think we ended up with twenty one
or twenty two dolphins. Nice, nothing big the report, you know,
with a lot of fish. All school other than that
went out on Friday. There was a nice edge out

(01:19:06):
there in about eight hundred eight fifty. The water was
green inside south tide on the reef. Usually when there's
south tide in green water, there's going to be an
edge with north current somewhere, So don't lose hope and
keep going off short till you find the edge and
that's where the fish wear.

Speaker 4 (01:19:23):
Wow. You know if any talking about current, man, A
lot of our folks on the show are brand new
viewers or we're learning how to fish and tune into
you guys, you professionals like yourself to tell them how
to be a better fishing person. Without current, you're pretty
much dead out there, right. The weather could be great,
she's could be one to two. But you did have
current to catch fish, correct.

Speaker 8 (01:19:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 47 (01:19:45):
That especially north current around here, something to do with
the way the reef is. When you have that north
tide makes the fish by south currents like the kiss
at death we call it. You have south current on
the reef, you're catching pretty much barracudas.

Speaker 4 (01:20:00):
Now, do you have a device on your boat that
actually measures current and current speed?

Speaker 47 (01:20:06):
I usually can tell with my GPS kind of which
way I'm going what the tide's doing.

Speaker 4 (01:20:12):
Okay, all right, very cool. So again the catch, as
you said, I saw the photos on Facebook. By the way,
you're right to you always mount those fish fisher Owys
Joe right next to his boat at the dock in
case you didn't know, Joe see his boat online. He's
got the only green fishing boat I've ever seen in
my life.

Speaker 6 (01:20:29):
It's green. It stands out why.

Speaker 4 (01:20:31):
It's called whytublic whatever it anyway, So you said to
mahi are at really big. But is there a problem
in your opinion, Vinnie, of catching these smaller mahi if
you if you catch your limits, because eventually in the year,
if you didn't catch them, there'll be twenty pounders and
twelve months, Joe, they grew extremely rapidly. Some folks have

(01:20:53):
got issues with guys posting of a whole bunch of
smaller mahi, not undersized, but smaller. They're fair game, Vinny, correct.

Speaker 47 (01:21:02):
Yeah, I would say it's fair game. I mean, in
my opinion, you know a lot of the fish. You know,
when especially if you're in a school or catching a
lot at once, you know by the time you get
the hook out and throw them back, they're.

Speaker 7 (01:21:14):
Probably dead anyway.

Speaker 47 (01:21:15):
So if they're over twenty inches, I would say it's
fair game for sure. The smaller ones tastes better anyway.

Speaker 4 (01:21:20):
Yeah, very good, you're actually right about that. What about
the bottom bike, I know you guys should drop wides
down there, what's going on at the bottom.

Speaker 47 (01:21:28):
We did pretty good on some vermilions. I always say
summertime is not the best time to do like the
deep dropping for vermillions and yellow eyes. But I did
manage to hit one of my secret spots and catch
a few nice ones this week. We didn't have much current,
a little bit of north, so that's like the favorable
conditions for that type of fishery.

Speaker 4 (01:21:49):
Now, I got a friend of mine, Joe Johson here,
he's to my writers, our guest co host today. So
I say, Joe's kind of a I'm not a novice angle.
Have you caught some fish in your day? But it's
a lot we got real fact of angler. You take
a guy like Joe on on the yby normal and
he's got maybe some skills.

Speaker 6 (01:22:05):
He as a us of a long time vity.

Speaker 4 (01:22:07):
You kind of coach sees fishing guys and gals how
to do things right. Do you kind of kindly coach
them about not touching the drag and you know, really,
you know, really, as you're reeling down or raise the
rod ship up, you give the whole, the whole lesson.

Speaker 47 (01:22:20):
Yeah, we give them the whole spiel. I would definitely
say women anglers are a lot better than men because
the number one rules They listened when you talk.

Speaker 4 (01:22:30):
Did you hear that, Joe, I'm sorry, who Yeah, you
were listening as usual. Yeah, so women anglers seem to
pay attention.

Speaker 22 (01:22:37):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (01:22:37):
The guys all think they know all.

Speaker 4 (01:22:38):
They're beating their chests like, oh, don't tell me how
to fish, and Fitty, I know what I'm doing.

Speaker 6 (01:22:42):
I'm a badass. And you ain't caught nothing the entire
day but just a buzz, you know what.

Speaker 3 (01:22:47):
I was a kid, we used to I don't know
if this is good or not, but we would used
to gaff right. But right at the boat there were
so many mis.

Speaker 4 (01:22:54):
Yeah, well those days, Joe, are not around like they
were back in my day when I fish the dad
ALAMBRONI we had the house a Lamorada by the way,
Vinnie and we go out there and we're coming the
seventies when Alambronne had no T shirt stands by the way,
and we'd have a school probably just yards wide, and
these fish were all just probably over fifteen twenty pounds
and ferocious. So those days will come back one day.

(01:23:18):
We'll figure this whole thing out. But Vinnie real quick
wit to fish on your boat. Tell folks how to
get on board the y be normal.

Speaker 6 (01:23:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 47 (01:23:25):
You can go online and book at Fort Lauderdale Sports
Fishing dot com or you can give us a call
direct at nine five four five seven hundred.

Speaker 4 (01:23:34):
Hey man, Vinnie, you bring a strong upy weekend. Thanks
for being a captain on the show and be part
of our nineteenth anniversary day. We appreciate your big time
and you got major credits, so thanks for gooin. Vinnie,
you are the man, dude, appreciate you.

Speaker 47 (01:23:46):
Yeah, thank you guys. Thanks, congrats on nineteen years strong.

Speaker 6 (01:23:49):
Thanks so very much. Man.

Speaker 4 (01:23:50):
Hopefully we have nineteen more and I will wheel me
in on a wheelchair or whatever.

Speaker 6 (01:23:54):
Let's go, Joe. This is Johnny Stabille.

Speaker 18 (01:23:57):
Here's Johnny.

Speaker 6 (01:23:59):
Johnny's well. You may have you met Johnny before, Joe.

Speaker 3 (01:24:02):
I don't know if I've met him, but we probably
had him on the show chat.

Speaker 6 (01:24:05):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:24:05):
Johnny Staville is a hard or young man. He's a
young guy, sooner be getting married.

Speaker 6 (01:24:10):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:24:10):
He's a happily almost married man, but he finds time
to do these charters. That's his biz. Okay.

Speaker 6 (01:24:16):
And this guy, for his age, is so schooled.

Speaker 3 (01:24:20):
We need him, man, we need you on the way up.

Speaker 4 (01:24:22):
How to catch fish and what he's learning as young youth.
I just can't figure out how he's jammed.

Speaker 6 (01:24:26):
It all over. But Johnny, you're a wealth of knowledge,
my brother. Good on it to you.

Speaker 33 (01:24:31):
Good morning. You know, it's it's my passion and I just.

Speaker 7 (01:24:35):
I just, I don't know, keep absorbing it.

Speaker 33 (01:24:38):
I'm like a sponge.

Speaker 3 (01:24:39):
You know, what did you learn this week? Vinny?

Speaker 4 (01:24:43):
Oh, Johnny, Johnny, Johnny?

Speaker 8 (01:24:45):
This week?

Speaker 33 (01:24:46):
I learned that and it's something that I've known for
a long time, but I was reminded of it that
I should not postpone a trip due to a bad
weather forecast, you know, the day in advance.

Speaker 47 (01:25:00):
So it's look, you know.

Speaker 33 (01:25:02):
Looks like it's gonna rain tomorrow or twenty four hours away,
Like let's just postpone it.

Speaker 14 (01:25:07):
You know.

Speaker 47 (01:25:08):
It was the client's idea and uh and ended up.

Speaker 17 (01:25:11):
Being a beautiful day.

Speaker 33 (01:25:13):
It would have been a beautiful day to fish. Would
the day would be actually going fish the day we
postpone it's raining. So never never postpone a trip. You
know what I've told people this for years in Florida.
Anytime you go outside, you bring your rain jacket and
your sunglasses because.

Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
You never know what's want to need. Yeah, that's a
great point though, by the way, they haven't figured the
weather out. I mean, Jennifer gray Ward is always pretty
much spot out with her forecast show. She does a
great job, but generally speaking, I see a lot of
the local weather forecasters who just get absolutely wrong. They
get everybody either it's a paranoia about a spaghetti noodle

(01:25:53):
coming off of some random tropical depression that's nine thousand
miles away, or whatever the case may be, and.

Speaker 6 (01:26:00):
Totally get it wrong.

Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
So we send our drone out to check it out.

Speaker 6 (01:26:03):
We have a weather drone now we do.

Speaker 3 (01:26:06):
Actually, you know it's last Sunday. They were saying, don't
go out Sunday had no chance, you know, the brain's
coming Saturday night. Sunday was like the beauty most beautiful days,
ten degrees. But it was nice. Yeah, just like exactly
what Johnny said is exactly right.

Speaker 4 (01:26:24):
So Johnny, what's going to catch the week man? You're
doing snakecats, peacock, kloon, nives combination of all or what
we've caught.

Speaker 33 (01:26:31):
Every every one of those species that you just said.
The Everglades water is rising kind of rapidly, so that
fishery is going to be pretty much done. Except for
bass fishing. You know, you can you can always catch bass,
largemouth bass and holiday park. But but the you know,

(01:26:52):
the exotic fishery will be done. Now after these first
few rains, the water level came up about a foot
and a half uff already and it's got about another
three and a half to go. So once that happens,
that that fishery is is done for the year. Lake
Eida fishing tough. It's it's a it's a tough fishery.

(01:27:15):
You really got to know where to go. You got
to have a game plan. You you need to have
experience fishing Lake Ida if you want to be successful there.
And also it seems like I don't really buy shiners.
A lot of people buy shiners to fish with shiners.

(01:27:35):
I usually catch my own bait. All the bait is
very small right now. The shad in Lake Ida are
only about three quarters of an inch and all of
the shiners and all the Florida I've been to multiple
tackle shops this week because the fish has been a
little tough with all the rain. You know, it's it
changes for the first time of the year, so that

(01:27:55):
fishing gets gets a little on the hard side. All
the shiners are all so very small, so you know,
it's a good time to to really dial in your
artificial bite. When when live bait is not really easy
to catch or easy to find in a good size,
it's a good time to dial in that artificial bite.

Speaker 4 (01:28:17):
I personally don't ever use that live stuff, Joey. I
always throw artificials as Johnny nose up by balcony at
my place at Lake Catherine. I'm a big fan. My
current lure I love a lot is the suspending jerk baits.
Those work for me very well.

Speaker 3 (01:28:30):
Do you catch it a lot? From your own doc.

Speaker 6 (01:28:32):
I'm catching it.

Speaker 4 (01:28:33):
They're making a joke about I'm catching the Saint Peacock
bass over and over again. It's not I have all
shellocking school. Hey, Johnny for you go man. This is
Joe Johnson. By the way, Uh, just can you name
some of the top two or three goofyest lure names
that are out there, Like what are they called? I mean,
give me three or four of that because they have

(01:28:54):
some interesting funny names.

Speaker 33 (01:28:58):
Man, I can't think of any anything off the top
of my head. When I first I guess when I
first heard.

Speaker 36 (01:29:03):
Of the whopper plopper.

Speaker 33 (01:29:05):
That one was like, what is a wopper plopper?

Speaker 6 (01:29:10):
And what a wapper plopper?

Speaker 8 (01:29:15):
A wopper plopper it is a top water.

Speaker 33 (01:29:17):
Lure that has a blade on the back that as
you pull it, the blade.

Speaker 31 (01:29:25):
Goes blop bloop bloop blop blopop.

Speaker 33 (01:29:28):
And it makes that like flooping sound and bass tear
it up it really do. Wow, that would be uh,
that would be one of the funniest names that I
can think of at the moment.

Speaker 6 (01:29:41):
I got you.

Speaker 4 (01:29:42):
I don't think Al's remember back when he was on
the show, we had all these crazy essays for the
Lowers Show that he would throw out there and I'd.

Speaker 6 (01:29:49):
Say, is that really a lower name? He goes, yeah,
that's actually what it called.

Speaker 9 (01:29:51):
You.

Speaker 6 (01:29:51):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:29:52):
You watched like the Fishing Channel in there there's some
odd weird thing that they're pitching to you. Is there
anything that you've been pitched that completely didn't work?

Speaker 6 (01:30:01):
Oh all the time? Question Joe, Yeah, good one. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:30:06):
So there are lureers you tried lures that just now
for me, Johnny. I mean, I was a rattle trap
guy when I first came out, and I have totally
abandoned that lure. I don't even want to talk about
the rattle traps anymore. Do you still think they have
any cred?

Speaker 33 (01:30:20):
There is a few places in Florida where rattle trap works.
There's you know it's it's up at Headwaters in Fellsmere, Florida,
and people use them up there for big bass and
they do work there. I have thrown a rattle trap
a ton in South Florida because I go through stages

(01:30:40):
where I'm like, hey, I want to try a new
technique today. I want to try a new type of bait.
I want to do this I've never used. And I
threw a rattle trap for like six months and it
was it was slim pickens.

Speaker 6 (01:30:55):
Yeah, I don't have any luck with it, man, No.

Speaker 33 (01:30:58):
No, I yeah, I don't. I don't throw them anymore.
You know, my my number one is the same as
your number one, which is a suspending jerk bait. Personally,
the Chimano m Vernon ninety five is like yeah, and
all the all jerk bait, so.

Speaker 4 (01:31:19):
Just save your money and don't lose one because they
are not cheap. Rocking o' clock, you're Johnny, but hey man,

Know it baby?

Speaker 3 (01:35:44):
Oh yeah? Man by this morning, women up only to
about eighty nine. Yeah, seventy seven degrees and South Fida

let it school you. Maybe you'll catch some fish today.

Speaker 4 (01:35:57):
Keep it up, Hi have only eighty nine Thanks for
listening to the radar weather here all right, so Sonny,
no chance of rain and no really like three that's it? Yep,
did you give out what the seas are? The two
to three, one to four.

Speaker 3 (01:36:08):
And the sees are two to three? Is low man
two to three?

Speaker 6 (01:36:11):
Okay? Which way is the current going street?

Speaker 8 (01:36:16):
Frank?

Speaker 4 (01:36:16):
Good, comeback Joe very quick. I might add very good
to the keys we go. Our great friend, Captain Skip
bray Dean Long. Skip was here many years ago Joe
and took a little break and uh he's now with
George Clark Junior and they get together and team up
and Skip's been bringing it strong every weekend, Skipping, Good

(01:36:36):
morning to you, my friend.

Speaker 35 (01:36:39):
Good morning, buddy. Good hearing from you guys. Sound like
you got some nice weather going on up there.

Speaker 6 (01:36:43):
Yes, are you on a boat, buddy, chance.

Speaker 35 (01:36:47):
No, I'm not on the boat. I'm at my home
right now on my cell phone.

Speaker 4 (01:36:50):
Okay, I thought you were selling. You're kind of an
on the water with the way that feed sales. But anyway,
so I'll watch our Nicetie anniversary.

Speaker 9 (01:36:56):
Skip.

Speaker 4 (01:36:57):
You were back part of our big original crew back
in the day, so you got part of that nineteen
year history. So we're glad you're back again. For your
second round with us and some great reports over the years.
How's the fishing in the Keys of been for you
this week?

Speaker 35 (01:37:12):
I'll tell you what, but it's really good. I've only
been out a couple of days this week, and I'm
on this papaw who, and I only fished my clientele.
I'm semi retire, you know. I hung it up about
three years ago, sold all but my client's call, and
they asked me to take him fishing. I said, I
don't have a boat. Him was, so, Skip, can you
get a boat? So what I've done, I've hooked up
with a Papa Wat who was a great owners two

(01:37:33):
owners buying and David Epstein and George runs the bridge
and I run the cockpit, and I sing and I dance.
I put the baits out and that's where I should
have been years ago. But now I'm there, and I'm
having the best time of my life right now, and
I can't tell you how enjoyable it is.

Speaker 6 (01:37:47):
So they go out on that boat. Joe, what Skip does?

Speaker 4 (01:37:50):
He's obviously a very knowledgeable cap in the insult operation
with the blue Chip too for many many years, sold
his boat right and decided to go and hang it up.
And now he's actually with George on the on the
wahoo pup?

Speaker 22 (01:38:02):
Was it puff o wahoo?

Speaker 8 (01:38:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:38:04):
And Skip is like the entertainer on that boat with
guys who were fishing. So Skip's doing a little singing,
he's a little dancing. He may thought a couple of
tips off karaoke, but he may throw a couple tips
out of fish. But he's like a one man package
out there.

Speaker 3 (01:38:20):
Wow, that sounds good. You get the show and the
souvenir picture.

Speaker 4 (01:38:23):
You get to show the souvenir picture and a fish
it's hanging on the wall.

Speaker 3 (01:38:28):
Billy Bess.

Speaker 35 (01:38:30):
We do know how to catch fish.

Speaker 8 (01:38:31):
You know.

Speaker 35 (01:38:31):
I've had fifty five years on the bridge. But what's
nice about this is I'm down with a client telligence
that I've known for years. And you know, another thing
about it when things are just don't go TikTok, and
they got to be fixed anymore, not my problem anymore.
They I'll tell you why, I say, do it. Thanks
till you get the man up here and take care
of it. And when it's fixed, let me know and
I'll be right back. But that's it. It's just it's

(01:38:52):
just I've found this by accident. I was at a
funeral for their dad, the boss's dad, and they asked
your qued come along and join him.

Speaker 8 (01:38:59):
I said, well, let me think about it.

Speaker 7 (01:39:00):
Than that.

Speaker 35 (01:39:00):
They told me to deal, and I said, I'm on.
So that's it I'm doing. Instead of doing twenty five
days a month, I'm doing five days a month, and
I'm loving every.

Speaker 6 (01:39:06):
Minute of it.

Speaker 4 (01:39:07):
Nice, all right, So let's just as fish news we
heard last week. We're talking to these skip the mahi
are pretty much around.

Speaker 6 (01:39:14):
It's thick. What's changed this week? What's the hot bite
you going to be has been?

Speaker 35 (01:39:18):
I'll tell you what the wahu the amahi bite has
changed for the better. Even it was good that maya
is still basically twenty two to twenty three inch like that.
I just lift is right now, and I mentioned last week.
In a couple of weeks from now, maybe they'll be
what we call heavy lift. There's a fish instead of
being three and four pounds will be six and eight pounds,
and the heavy lifters. And sometimes you want to make
sure that if they're not hooked at well, you got

(01:39:40):
to put a net autum or gaffer. But they're a
lot of fun to watch death, but pro like me
or trying to care for six seven pounds off and
I looked like zoo down there. Sometimes I really got
to practice. But hey, we got fifty five pounds. Yes
day before yesterday. A bunch of my friends from all
over their country called eyes. There are a bunch of
people at flooring put in big hotels, lots of doing
very well, by the way, with this economy, they tell me.

(01:40:01):
And they fished the tournament two days every year, and
they got one of the bus caught a fifty five
pound dolphin day before yesterday. We flew the table spot
because nobody had anything like that. So that's that's the
best fish I heard this year. Now, you know the
fifty five pound dolphins fished by the Florida Keys every
day of the year. I mean whether from Key West
to Pompino Beach. You know, there's just a big ocean

(01:40:23):
to try and find that fish. And I'm sure he
didn't nowhere it was, but you having the kitchen, that's
the best fish I've heard this year.

Speaker 6 (01:40:28):
That's a big fish. Thankski, real quick.

Speaker 4 (01:40:30):
So we're celebrating on a night set anniversary, and uh,
you know the guy who brought the show to me
and a couple of co hosts was the late Jim
Mad dog Man, who you knew very well. Give me
a couple of reflections about Jim as a man. You
know him down to the keys quite often. How did
you two hang out together?

Speaker 6 (01:40:48):
What was he like a boy?

Speaker 8 (01:40:50):
I tell you what.

Speaker 35 (01:40:51):
He's something he called me. He did the radio shows
and the Ziggies on Friday. He put the show down
there at Friday afternoon, and he moved it down to
a Ziggy's on occasion, and he called me and said, hey, cap,
He says, come on down. I'll be there doing the
radio showing. After that, Well, you're on scholarship me. Then
I'm going to sit at the.

Speaker 8 (01:41:08):
Bar and eat and drink.

Speaker 35 (01:41:09):
Everything had the thing and now then we posted wise
but he was in a cigars book and then we
dropped that idea. After a while that habit and we
just hung around real well. And it's such a sad story.
About three days before he passed, he called he said, Skip,
I'd like to see you down at the store at
the Ziggies. And I met him down there at five
o'clock and his son was read of Mark was with him,
and he was driving mad Dog and he had a

(01:41:32):
briefcase with him. He had a little about a half
inch a gress of red wine, and I had to
say it. He's thought to be right back skip, but
I just want to stay high. And I had no
idea about this. How bid this was. And he went
to the bathroom and they come back out and he
said the Mark. He said, Mark, we got to go,
and that was it, and he gave me a big handshake.
I had no idea about this. And then three days
later he died. So that's how close we were. He

(01:41:53):
we want to see me at the very end of
his life, and makes me want to cryer almost, you know,
That's how I felt about it.

Speaker 4 (01:41:59):
He was one guy Joe would would help if people
would have a need. Jim mad Dog managed would help
him out. I mean, he was gonna got a very
giving man. He was a straight shooter man. None of
that was a badass football player's right, I have to
think named mad Dog, he wasn't taking no jive on
a dolphin field. He would definitely put a hurting on you.
And Jim was a man's man. You have no doubt

(01:42:19):
about that. So Skiff, thanks for reflections on that I
did have a couple of photos of you and the
mad Dog. Maybe shoot us over to We got a
picture text on my phone one day and little to
see those.

Speaker 35 (01:42:28):
Okay, buddy, Yeah, Now I got a bunch of stuff today.
I didn't get it out this. We got some more
stuff for you with mad Dog and other things too.

Speaker 4 (01:42:35):
Okay, okay, freak go to fish on that amazing boat
of yours.

Speaker 6 (01:42:39):
How do we do that?

Speaker 35 (01:42:42):
Oh? Well, you called me at my house, call me
at the right numbers.

Speaker 18 (01:42:47):
Man.

Speaker 35 (01:42:48):
Yeah, I sub retired, but if you want to finish
with me three O five four eight one five one
five one now you call it? So you heard O
this show, I'll be on the boat. But that's how
I show up with sellar requests anyway.

Speaker 4 (01:43:00):
All right, well, Skiff, you're the man. Thanks for being
in front of our nineteen that ever celebration you were
back in.

Speaker 35 (01:43:08):
Frin.

Speaker 4 (01:43:10):
Thanks again, buddy boy, have a great weeknd. Okay, thanks
so much you guys.

Speaker 6 (01:43:13):
Bye bye, big to do.

Speaker 4 (01:43:14):
Joe coming up and Ala Marana will talk to you
a doctor Spencer Kellogg next year.

Speaker 6 (01:43:18):
Some questions line up for him.

Speaker 3 (01:43:19):
Yeah, for sure, I want to know about what the
antics with the baby and the dressing up the room
and playing all that music and to get the early
U of MS fan from the bottom.

Speaker 6 (01:43:28):
Up, and how it all ties it with fishing.

Speaker 4 (01:43:30):
Absolutely. Yeah, we'll talk about that coming up next year
on the Big Shoe Fox Sports nine.

Speaker 48 (01:43:38):
Sarah Spain for Iheartwomen's Sports presented by ELF Beauty.
