And we're talking about more than about your your new
stuff coming up in the show. All right, what you've
caught with them lately on the show quite a bit?
(01:50):
Did you bring anything to show on the show?
Speaker 3 (01:52):
I never bring anything to show on We're doing two
out of.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Three that are pretty well.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
You brought the rods last time.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
I brought him that got a matt ring.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Here, here we go, catch a couple of fish. Yeah.
So Jimbo's only got line one, Joey, he wants you
to bring him on in your spectacular style. There were dude, you.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
Know what, I'm going to keep it simple again. I
think he I think he likes it as impossible.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I'm gonna do it. Well, bring him on in. Okay,
that's here.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
Jimbo.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
His name is.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Jimbo.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
That was so lame that good is getting about? Here
we go.
Speaker 7 (02:31):
His name is Jimbo. He ate no slim Bow. His
mama nicknamed him Bimbo. His name is jim Bow.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
He's on the show Show No No, Hey, that was good.
He's eleven over here. Man, you guys should start a band.
We should not poor jim Bo. Bimbo.
Speaker 8 (02:55):
Hey, Jimmy, Hey, wrong number.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Sorry I called you last night. Pick up again? Man,
you just ignore me.
Speaker 9 (03:05):
Yeah, what time did you call? I didn't even see
you called.
Speaker 8 (03:07):
But either way, I'm.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Here five early man, I.
Speaker 8 (03:12):
Was probably still on the boat.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Well, we're glad you're happy. First thinking to shoot our
guests is Johnny set up for Johnny Jigs. We talked
with you before about having Jigs on the flyer, which
is pretty rare and next to none. But we're gonna
change that real soon, Becau. Johnny will drop off a
whole dozen to you. Man.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
That's what we should do.
Speaker 6 (03:33):
Yeah, well I think so, I think so, right, Yeah,
we should we think about that.
Speaker 8 (03:38):
You put Johnny on the spot here got pretty.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Much give it away man. So is the sargas have
still been bad this week. We were talking about weed
for weeks a.
Speaker 8 (03:51):
Week it has been uh I don't it comes. It
comes in waves. You can go in areas where it's
not too bad. Then there's areas where it's near impossible
to fish through. And it hasn't been like fishy weed.
It's just been nuisance weed. But there have been some
fish this week, some dolphin caught, and it's been it's
(04:14):
hit or miss on the dolphin. There's some boats that
get out there, get lucky, hit the right school of
decent sized fish and have a nice catch, and then
there's other boats that struggle and don't see any or
don't find any keepers. What's today Saturday. So last day
I fished was Wednesday, and we fished late until the
(04:36):
afternoon and we had dolphin in like four hundred feet
of water. There was frigate birds on top of them.
They were not huge, but they were easy keeper dolphin
and they were moving like super fast to the north.
So typically when we have dolphin moving to the north
that it signals Swiss that they're going to be small ones.
(04:56):
But these were all keepers falling but to the north
and they would not eat a troll bait for some
reason or feather, so we had some live bait fortunately,
and that's what we're able to get them on. So
there was four or five frigate birds on top of
them and we'd get up in front of the birds,
get our live baits out. We get a bite pretty
(05:17):
much each time, so that we got lucky. And there
was boats out that were out all day and then
we didn't really find them, but we fished till about
six o'clock, so late in the day they were popping up.
Now dumb luck or what I'll take it. And then
there's been some kings along the edge on the plans
(05:38):
as well, so there are fish out there. We got
flat calm weather. It looks like today in the last
few days has been pretty much flat calm, so there's
no excuse not to get out there.
Speaker 6 (05:50):
And Jimbo, I've been hearing a lot of some straggler
like big black fin being caught this whole week.
Speaker 10 (05:58):
Have you seen.
Speaker 8 (06:01):
I personally did not the reward. You'll probably hear it
from Wayne if he's on the show today. They caught
a big one on Thursday. So yes, there still are
some black fans out there. The best way to catch
those black fans is with live bait, and nobody's really
been live baiting on the edge, so I don't know
(06:21):
if the if the reward caught it on a light bait,
they might have caught it on a slow pitch jig
because they do a lot of that as well. But
I think if you went out there, and especially if
you had some pilters that you could throw some chum with,
you would have a very good chance at a blackfan.
But this week I heard of them. For the last
(06:42):
couple of weeks, I haven't heard of any of them, right,
so you know, who knows. Little wave of them came
through and there's also been a couple of wall who's caught.
I know you'd like to hear that, but a lot
of there's been a lot of the boats since we're
not very few most live baiting. They've been trolling the planers,
(07:03):
so there's been a lot more targeting of that type
of fishing where you're likely to catch a wall who
trolling the planers down deep. If you can find an
area with those seaweed.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Can I ask Johnny question now on the phone here,
John do you ever catch wahoo?
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Johnny Jiggs, Yes, it's a or I mean it's a unicorn.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Yeah, I'm okay, Jim pay attention to this conversation.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Okay, most.
Speaker 9 (07:38):
I've caught.
Speaker 8 (07:38):
I've got plenty of wall who's on jigs. But the
problem is you're very rarely putting some wire leader when
you're fishing that jig, so you're more likely going to
get cut off and catch that. Well.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
I'm really glad you asked answered Johnny's question for him.
Thanks very much. It's some kind of you have you
caught personally?
Speaker 4 (08:03):
I have, yep, I have, and and like like Jimbo
said it, I mean, you're gonna you're gonna get cut
off if but you can put wire leader on. There's
wire assist host. But you know what, here's the thing though,
if you if you if you're running and you run
into a.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Palette or a booie with a big rope.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
Hanging down below it, or some type of you know,
floating debris out there, you've got that time to rig
up because a lot of times when you're gonna catch
a wall who on a jig, that's the spot.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
The special kind of a special out jig waited out perfectly.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Yeah, ye, I mean you pitch, you pitch, you pitch
something up at the top of it, you're gonna get
the mahi. But if you go down, you know, a
little bit deeper, a lot of times you'll get into
the wall. Who but I I have experienced Wahoo on
the jig, and a lot of times. There's been a
few times actually that I'm like, this is a tuna
or something, and then I'm like, holy crape. Yeah, you're
(08:57):
You're amazed whenever you land them and you don't have
wire leader on.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
That's a great man, so Jim. But there you go, man.
So yes, as you validated, Wahoo can be caught on jiggs.
Thank you so much. Hey, yes they can be. All right,
you're heading out today with the gag or what are
you doing? Man?
Speaker 8 (09:14):
We are, we've got to I'm just pulling into the
marina right now again, flat com. We're gonna get some
live bait just in case we find some of those
finicky dolphin that we need to live bait on. But
otherwise we'll probably start outrolling the planers. See we get
a king or two and you still have a shot
at a tune on the planer or if we get
(09:36):
lucky in one of those wallhoos, and I'll probably let
some of the other boats be the guinea pigs and
head off shore. And if we hear any reports, then
we might aim that way as well.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
All right, So yeah, well, I guess avoid that weed.
It seems to never go away. Always go off for
your tournament next weekend, Joe, we's going.
Speaker 11 (09:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (09:54):
I mean it's getting better from what I've heard, so
that's good. And the black and you to think kind
of got me excited because there were some really big
ones caught this past week.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
So that's you're exciting. But it's pretty pretty lucky, Jim.
But thanks for giving me real quick. Did you go
for many season and.
Speaker 8 (10:17):
I did. I went out on mini season and we
caught our limited lobsters. It seemed like they were fairly plentiful.
I know there was a lot of them eliminated the
last couple of days on Wednesday and Thursday. Pretty much
everyone I spoke to did well.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
It sounded like.
Speaker 8 (10:36):
So we'll see when the season open. The real season
opens next Wednesday on August sixth, Yes, sir, and see
how that goes, but yes we did, and that divans
nice as hot as it is. Getting in the water
was quite refreshing.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Very cool. Yeah, all right, Jim, I'll have a great weekend.
May catch up up Buddy tight Lines on the Thomas Flyer.
Thanks for being the first of the shoot every weekend,
no matter how much you despise me. Oh, have a
great time.
Speaker 8 (11:01):

lot of them. Hey Corey, what's up, buddy?
Speaker 21 (16:27):
Corey?
Speaker 9 (16:29):
Not too much. Guys.
Speaker 22 (16:30):
How are you guys doing?
Speaker 2 (16:32):
You talk about as happy to be Here's a guy
who just sat on the nail bit, do you want
to be here? Corey?
Speaker 5 (16:40):
Corey loves it.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Geez.
Speaker 22 (16:44):
Okay, we're talking about fishing. Nothing better than that.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
So our special guest is Johnny stead Of You ever
had the experience with throwing jigs in your long fishing
career Corey at all.
Speaker 22 (16:58):
Yes, A lot of a lot of the jigs that
I've I've thrown have been I mean, I've thrown like
bucktail jigs, but I've thrown a lot of like swim
jigs for for bass, and you know, for swim James
is a big thing for larksmouth bass mostly too. You know,
Jakes for peacock bass has done that as well. But yeah,
(17:21):
I've had experience throwing jigs, Johnny. Definitely very effective. Definitely
effective base, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Johnny recalling one of the shows we did with the
Johnny Stapill and Johnny was actually one of the first
guys that I should have admit the fact he's been
catching peacock bass or some of your smaller micro micro Yeah,
really man, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
It's a it's a whole nother world from offshore to
inshore with the micro jigging. But it is super cool
and interesting, I'll say it. There's a lot of room
to to actually grow that, get to the next level. Yeah,
absolutely develop.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
A jig for sneak.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
Make it like a mouse or something like a frog,
jer iguana, like an iguana about.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
A crawdaddy whatever.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Anyway, Yeah, crawdaddy.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
What if it catches with Corey? What's not a big
hit list?
Speaker 22 (18:12):
Man, most of the trips that I've had, you know,
it's been snakeheads. That's been the that's been the deal.
It's really rather than getting after I haven't really had
a chance to really go after anything else. But it's
you know, they've been hitting good. I mean, if you
get out there early enough, the top water, it kind
of lasts till about eleven o'clock and then you know
(18:35):
you got to start going down deep. That's that's kind
of how it was last you know, a few trips
that I've had, it's you know, early top water and
then you know midday it's it's sub surface chatter bait,
spinner bait, you know, crawdadd or creature bait on the bottom.
You know, it's it's it gets hot enough during the day,
(18:55):
those fish slow down as well. So but some of
the other trips that I had, I mean, guys got
fish up to nine pounds, eight pounds an eight and
a half pounds, So there's been good fish being caught,
so cup service. No snakeheads, Oh I've got you, okay, yeah,
because that's mostly been the trips. We've gotten some large
(19:17):
mouth as well, but most of the trips that I've
had this week, it's just everybody's been snakeheads.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
So there's this heat wave to affect you at all.
Cory as far as the water temperature being like ninety
five thousand degrees, you think a fish slowed down more
or what does it deal with it?
Speaker 22 (19:32):
Yeah? Yeah, no, I mean even for them, it slows down.
I mean it's most of the even the peacocks even
you know, of course large mouths, but in cloudn knifefish
even but a lot of times, you know what they
do is they come up for air, you know, the
snakeheads or the peacocks or I'm sorry not the peacocks,
clown knifefish, so you know, but the auction levels get
(19:52):
low enough and you know these fish, you know, they
slow down as well. So there was some situations with
the snakeheads when we were fishing some of the areas
we had to we were fish in the area, we
had to make multiple, multiple casts because we would see
them come up for air and we just had to
keep throwing out and keep throwing them until, you know,
we would get him to hit. So it was a
really slower technique. Even of the chatterbaits. Sometimes we would
(20:15):
throw it out and let it kind of like we
wouldn't just steady retrieve. It would just kind of be
like a hop in the kind of like a jig,
just like using a jig on the bottom.
Speaker 9 (20:22):
Gotcha, just kind of stop and start.
Speaker 22 (20:24):
So that was the effective technique for them.
Speaker 6 (20:27):
Any any big peacocks around, I know you've been going
for snakeheads more, But have you seen.
Speaker 22 (20:33):
Any I've yeah, we've been. I haven't really I haven't
really seen anything big. We've been running the ones we
haven't run into. We've been kind of on the smallerest
decent size. I haven't really run into any big, big ones. Okay, yeah,
not like like a couple of months ago. But it's
kind of in the areas of fishing. They're not really
(20:53):
a lot of big big fish there, but there's just
more like numbers more than anything if you run into any.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Right, right, gotcha? You know, for me, Corey, I throw
a lot of suspending jerk bakes off my balcony. But
you may have seen my place, Johnny, I get a
place over the water, and they're called suspending jerk bakes
for a reason. If you throw them out there, they
actually start drifting down and sinking and suspending. Right. So
I'm realized that my peacock bassed off my lake have
gone deeper. So I'll count to one, two, three, maybe ten, whatever,
(21:21):
let it go down quite a ways, and then start
reeling it in, Corey. And a lot more productive fishing
that way for me, as opposed to like just pulling
them on the top, you.
Speaker 22 (21:30):
Know, yeah, especially later in the day, that's really effective.
Those those type of jerk baits are really good for
the suspending ones that I've caught. I catch a lot
of them on or you know, quite a few on
those suspending jerk baits because you can get it's like
wherever they're located on that in the water column, and
(21:51):
that really works well. You know, really slowing it down,
stop and start. That works really well for them.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
Yeah, Corey, So quick question, do you change up your
your strategy when it's this hot when you're going for
snakehead you change lures or strategy or what do you do?
Speaker 8 (22:09):
Well?
Speaker 22 (22:10):
The strategy Usually if I change anything is like the presentation,
it's it's it's just maybe like if you're using a
top orter, maybe sometimes not throwing a like a frog
that's buzzing all the time. I usually like throwing that
like a paddle tail frog all the time, but sometimes
you got to throw maybe a hollow body just to
kind of slow it, really slow it down, sure, just
(22:32):
to get keep it in front of them. But if
you're using like like we were doing with the chatterbaits,
you you or even a spinner bait, you can try
to do mostly a chatterbait. You know, you let it
sink to the bottom and you kind of you know,
you hop it or you jig it along and you know,
stop and start and then maybe you know, burn it
right after that and then stop it again. You just
you got to kind of figure out what the fish like,
(22:52):
what they want. But yeah, you have to you have
to change it up sometimes because they're not hitting the
same thing. It's been three hours and you know, some
not working.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
So have we ever asked him whether he uses candy
jill and on the show? I'm not sure Corey is
a candy guy. I mean, I know I saw you
ever used, but I wonder.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
No, we've asked him. He's not into it, right, Corey,
You're not.
Speaker 8 (23:14):
I mean no.
Speaker 22 (23:15):
The only time I ever have is clients and maybe
clown knifefish, but that's about it. Everything else i'd ever
use it.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
Speaking of clown knife fish, what what kind of lures?
Speaker 6 (23:31):
I know they got like little mouths. What would you
tell someone to use if they were going to go
just full on lures for cloud knife.
Speaker 22 (23:39):
It would be like Apollo x rap, like a suspending
or the Lucky Craft, the pointers. It's a it's another
style of jerk bait, and it's just like a suspending
version or like a slow rising one.
Speaker 9 (23:54):
It's just about.
Speaker 22 (23:55):
Getting into the water calm wherever they're at, especially if
I mean if you work a bridge for those things
and they're under there, I mean, most of the time
you're gonna get a couple of hits from him. You'll
get a couple opportunities that works. I've caught him on chatterbaits.
I've even caught him on jigs, crappy jigs, so they
will hit jiggs.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Okay, but you get yours well.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
I was when a super small micro jing micro.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Micro. There we go, ye for your freshwater, guys, I
try my leg man of micro jigs.
Speaker 5 (24:30):
You haven't tried it yet at all?
Speaker 2 (24:32):
No, I haven't used in the red and white quarterbacks
bucktail jigs and they see.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
A fire for how did Pablo like those.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Multiple by the way, okay, they do reproduces other.
Speaker 6 (24:44):
So everyone knows. Eric catches the same peacock. His name
is Pablo.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
He's growing, You are true, Eric, He's growing getting bigger.
He's getting bigger.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Whatever.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
Hey, you do have a major paku in there. That's huge.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
It's a beast. Get I'm get them again.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
By the way, Yeah, that thing looks huge in the video.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
I stole one of my rods from my son's just
broken me off five times anyway, carving to rock the
clock man, But one more time before we go, Little
Corey Nowakowski laugh there it is right, Corey.
Speaker 5 (25:17):
Have you ever caught a patou?
Speaker 22 (25:19):
I haven't that's one that I want to catch.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
I've got I've fifty pounder in my leg. A school
of three are beast.
Speaker 22 (25:30):
Yeah, I just set that drag because I know they pulled.
They pull like hell, so they the funny. The funny
thing is I've run into them in places. I've seen
one in coral strings. One time it was mad. It
looked like a submarine going across or in the water.
I mean there was gigantic.
Speaker 9 (25:44):
But man, they're around.
Speaker 22 (25:46):
They just it's just targeting them, you know. That's sets
the things they're finding where they're.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
At muscled Corey, they are insane. They've spooled me twice.
They broke it off my son several times and actually
took a rod off my balcony and then we never
saw again. Anyway. Man, have a great day, Corey. Catch
him up. Man, you're aways great on the show. We
appreciate you, buddy, big time.
Speaker 14 (26:04):
Man.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Yeah, thanks brother, Yeah.
Speaker 9 (26:07):

I mean? Yeah, but he also got some of that
in too.

some bugs. Okay, I may just have you talked to
him the entire time, because I may just lose my
cool with him.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Good morning man?
Speaker 3 (31:46):
What a beautiful day?
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Huh yeah? Nice? Hot? Thanks great?
Speaker 32 (31:49):
Oh my god, man, I'll tell you I don't I
don't know what's up with that it feels like an oven.
But you know that's by you know, by ten in
the morning, you're going, okay, well when's it gonna get
really hot? And then by two o'clock you're dream going
what man, you know you're happy to walk into a
ninety five degree Walmart?
Speaker 3 (32:05):
You know, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
So waiting. Our special guest today is Johnny instead of
from Johnny Jiggs. I know you guys are man, what man?
You guys are jigging heavy man, So.
Speaker 32 (32:17):
You know I'm you fell skipping out here. Wow, well
I'm skipping out on some stuff here. You know, that's
the first guy in Miami doing I still got videos
up on Reward Fleet of our initial we were the
only guy that started doing this.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
You know, you know, we was just vertical jigging.
Speaker 32 (32:32):
It was basic, you know, back ten twelve years ago,
and man, we gosh, did we catch a lot of
fish and the and the tackle was I'm not going
to say primitive because it was all high end stuff,
but my gosh, that we beat up some fish and
break some rods and reels. That way I can put
it the learning curve. The learning curve for me was
(32:53):
it was kind of easy. I transitioned from you know,
I grew up fishing the Met Tournament with plug tackle
bouncer Smith and I and a bunch of the other
local maniacs around here. You know, we all grew up
fishing in the Met Tournament, which is line class fishing,
and you could only fish artificials and divisions. And you know,
we deep jigged. We called a deep jiggen back then,
which means usually it's a one ounce.
Speaker 5 (33:14):
Jig to a four ounce jig, let's say.
Speaker 32 (33:16):
And you may be doing another twelve pound plug rod,
and then all of a sudden somebody invented a glowworm
and you stick that on the back and then hang
on for dear life. But the transition going to iron,
you know, pitching well, I'm gonna say pitching iron because
it's an old term in the West Coast and up
up in New England and New York. Man, I had
a guy, come on, if you don't, I got a
(33:37):
minute here, I know, but I got to tell you
a little history because I got a great story, and a.
Speaker 33 (33:41):
Gentleman come on the boat.
Speaker 32 (33:42):
He had he had one of these deck special rods.
It was like a pin squidter and he had a
rod that had like rope, you know, wrapped on at
no cork, and he had some of these big old
six or eight ounce punks of steel. And this is
forty years ago, and I had a well full of
pinfish man. So I told him, I said, look, wee
ahn't got any business, but I'm gonna go commercial group
(34:03):
of fishing. He says, can I come? I said sure,
So he brings. He brings three jigs and they got
a big giant trouble on him. Like I said, they
weighed like four to eight ounces. Well, at the end
of a four hour trip, I caught two gag groupers.
He caught four, and he also caught like three almacos,
and a light bulb went off of my head. I said, Wayne,
you're missing out here, you know, these fish are you know.
(34:25):
It's great to PLoP bait on the bottom, but it
could it can be better to fish.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
The whole water column, you know.
Speaker 32 (34:32):
And and this guy was incredible fisherman because he'd been
using it.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
Over there in the West coast.
Speaker 32 (34:37):
These these are for codfish for everything, man, and the
technique stuck with me, and I remembered back to doing
my old deep jigen days. And then I started breaking
my crew and back on on jigging, like especially you know,
amberjacks are the training ground. I don't care, dude, And
(34:58):
that's your favorite Eric, No, right, I would say permit.
I would say permit, But permit are smarter. You know,
they don't call amberjacks. You know what they are. But
you know I had trips when we were doing those
ten twelve hour jiggen trips. We catch thirty thirty five
amberjacks and never kill any and almacos up to sixty
pounds on verticant and wow. Anyway, anyway, the genesis and
(35:22):
for me learning that technique and right now, you know,
we're shorthanded.
Speaker 5 (35:27):
Of people for me to to do what.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
We have, what we do in business.
Speaker 32 (35:33):
For me, man, I got that my reward one sitting there,
and I am just dying to start doing like weekly
jigging trips, you know, just like a let's say a
daybreak trip. You know, you fish six thirty, go home,
you know, so that that's on the horizon. That's on
the horizon. And you know, I'd like to be a
little training ground for folks that want to try this
without without them having to buy a forty two foot
(35:55):
freeman you know, so yeah, or charter somebody for two grand, which,
by the way, I got my I got my sports
fishing boat back running. It's the thirty seven Topaz twin
Cats and I have fish six. However, you know, when
I do vertical jigging trips, jiggen trips and fish.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
Three four guys, what do you take a mate?
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Sometimes?
Speaker 32 (36:13):
You know, But I'm just saying that's another opportunity. And
I pretty much know I'm not going to say I
know every rock on the bottom, you know, for thirty
miles north and south, but damn near it and the
cool you know what the cool thing is. I just
had a conversation with Greg Rcurio because he's he's down
there in Wonderland.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
It's not fair, but it's.
Speaker 32 (36:32):
Not fair, but I found I found a new spot. Anyway, goodbye,
waye flee.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Yeah there, and what your plug? Your business? Where you
go go ahead? Please?
Speaker 32 (36:42):
Of course, well listen, there's you know what we're fishing
every day. The day fishing we cut I took the
IGFA UH the Advanced Angler group out yesterday. We we
had the Benita Fest. We set a IGFA world Class
record junior record on twelve pound yesterday.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
Really nice.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
Stuff.
Speaker 32 (37:03):
Yea, and that was zing pal on a bunch of others.
We went into the bod is really hot and heavy,
which is kind of refreshing. We got a big king
in the middle of that nice and.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Okay, wait, the longest goodbye ever man, seriously, Yeah, there's
no time. We're way behind here, Okay, Wayne Man, we
got to rock the clock man than.
Speaker 32 (37:25):
Reward fleet, mangrove snappers, catching our limits and going home
by midnight.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
So nice. Save.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
I thought Joe was the greatest shill on the planet,
but Wayne just beats you down.
Speaker 5 (37:36):
Dude, seriously, every night on guys, it's cheap.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
A nice day off on your phone, click disconnecta now please, Joey,
did you him in whatever you do?
Speaker 5 (37:51):
There we go.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
That's exactly how it goes down.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
Just like this is more like just like that the
way you guys make it sound. I picture Wayne with
like a gatling gun, spear gun, just everything.
Speaker 34 (38:15):
In the yeah, talking about math, Chief to you, Chief
to you, buddy.
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Come on, Jim, Eric's been saying some things before you
came on, so.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
I know, I know, I know I'm gonna get He
was saying sad.
Speaker 33 (38:37):
I'm gonna get to the good stuff. The best is
it was the best dive. Of course, it was season
I can ever remember.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Jim.
Speaker 33 (38:49):
Yeah yeah, it was flat, flat, flat. Anybody with a
piece of plywood was out.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
You know.
Speaker 33 (38:55):
That was the bad news. The good news is, I
mean a very very gentle north current. You could go
against it if you wanted to uh decent visibility, you know,
forty something foot uh and and uh so yeah, listen,
you know the chief and crew, I know he's a
little uh you know, bummed. And Eric, you know, he's
(39:16):
you know, he's giving me a hard time on Facebook
showing my pictures with the with the relentless crew. You know,
we got our limit of it was six of us.
Both days we got seventy two, which is twelve per
person that's what we can get, and two extras, so
seventy four per day we limited out. It was it
(39:40):
was spectacular.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Joe, seventy four you think about that for the leading
it I eventually stink, right yeah.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's a solid number.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
He's definitely calling.
Speaker 33 (39:53):
A solid, solid number. Now remember remember, listen, this was
strictly for recreational diary. That's us that's what mini season
is all about. August sixth starts regular season. Now you
compete competing with the you know, the commercial guys. They
can take up to two hundred and fifty a day
per person. So that's that's that's a fair amount of bugs.
(40:17):
And you know, the fishery gets sunned, know, five to
seven million pounds a year. I know everybody goes on
down to the keys and they get six per person
and a lot of fun and you know, they basically
they take a whole week vacation type of deal. But man,
it was awesome. We just had an unbelievable day.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Okay, here's what off question one more time. I'm gonna
hang a punch. Literally, I've got to disconnect your ass
off the shot.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
I've got a question.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
You're done, Johnny, our guest just got a question. Question, Jim.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
I think you know everybody's getting lobsters from from their
buddies or if you're going down diving, getting them yourself.
But what's the best way to cook a lobster of Florida?
Speaker 35 (40:59):
Oh?
Speaker 33 (41:00):
Oh yeah, I love I love grilling.
Speaker 5 (41:02):
I'm a grill.
Speaker 33 (41:04):
I like grilling them. And if it depends if I
really want to impress whomever, my wife or friends or
family or whatever. I basically cut the top of the
shell along the shell, and then I make a quick
ninety degree on both sides of the tail. And if
you can understand what I'm saying, but that allows you
(41:26):
then to open that up, pull the meat out, and
then pull it put it on the top. So it's
just like a presentation at a at a you know,
fancy restaurant. Of course. Butter uh, that's what I just
cook them, not meat side down. First. I cook them
shell side down first on the grill to get them cooked.
And then last, I don't know five minutes, I flip
(41:47):
them meat side down, get them that little crunchy on
the outside. But I'm strictly a butter guy with little
seafood magic Chef Paul's.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Rule is actually thirty five feet long because it has
to make a room for all the bugs he's got. Okay,
it's fifty feet long. Oh, it was just like ptakes.
Speaker 33 (42:14):
Okay, so here, so I've been listen. I've been doing
mini season for thirty plus years. It's it's sort of
a tradition. Okay, here was the big difference. He was
the big difference. Last weekend, Saturday and Sunday I went out.
We scouted. We scouted south by Laudadel by the Sea,
we start, and then Sunday we scouted off a deerfield
in Boca and we were depressed. Man, there was no lobster.
(42:38):
We were normally yeah, we were like oh oh, oh oh.
And he was the oka listen, mini season. They're gonna
come in, They're gonna come in, and they did. But
here was the big difference. I don't know of anyone
that got into a honey hole, meaning hey, you look
under the rock and there's ten of them or twenty
(42:58):
of them. We didn't have this year. It was all onesies, twosies,
Threesi's a lot of eggers, a lot of shorts.
Speaker 10 (43:05):
But man, they were.
Speaker 33 (43:07):
Literally everywhere everywhere.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
It was really good.
Speaker 33 (43:11):
Guys off the beach. Crushed it, crushed it.
Speaker 2 (43:13):
It was really good. Before you go, it's all about
life and death. It's all about life and death. Okay,
I knew we're going to go there. What what fish
have you have you made deceased this week?
Speaker 33 (43:28):
All right, well listen, let me let me explain. Everybody
loves lobster. Okay, so what happens is when you're down
there and your gramminal lobster getting it out of his
hole somewhere along the line and the antenna breaks off
or or a leg or two breaks off, and guess what.
You look around Up there's that red grouper. Up there's
that always smokes Bud.
Speaker 5 (43:52):
I love how he explains it.
Speaker 6 (43:53):
A leg gets ripped off, and then look there's a
group I can shoot in the.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
Head just right there, just sitting there like a puppy dog. Ye,
wait for the spear right to the freaking just wait
up for Matthew to dispatch his ass. The great yeah, Buddy,
greatly than Joe.
Speaker 5 (44:10):
By the way, Jim, thank you for that bag. I
really appreciate it.
Speaker 33 (44:14):
At our drop off, Joe, this is the way it works, Buddy,
dunkin Donuts.
Speaker 9 (44:18):
It was great.
Speaker 8 (44:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 33 (44:19):
We were in the water at U zero six hundred
hours on the first day, so it was packed, I
mean off the beach. Guys were crushing it. Off the beach.
You can see the line of you could see the
line of boats and we don't know I'm to go
in that show. I'm talking fifteen feet just because I
don't want to mess with the guys swimming off the beach,
(44:39):
so give them a chance, you know, and I think
everybody did really well. If nobody got lobster this this
mini season, you need to read my book Catching the
bug Teck in edition.
Speaker 5 (44:51):
There it is, right here it is.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
And you have your first potty break this morning, maybe
you pass four or five antennas right through your pie hole. Really,
so have a lovely weekend, buddy boy.
Speaker 33 (45:02):
Okay, all right, we're gonna try to get out this weekend.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
Now.
Speaker 33 (45:05):
Remember August sixth, it's regular season. We're down to sixth
per person per day. That extra uh you know coin
thing from the f w C for the lionfish doesn't
count anymore other than just collecting. It's good, it's good.
The conditions are incredible. Get out there and.
Speaker 6 (45:23):
Dive and Jim also August ninth, Saturday, it's my event.
Speaker 5 (45:28):
Come on out, man. If you want to set up
a tent, you count.
Speaker 33 (45:31):
Where are you gonna be at?
Speaker 2 (45:34):
Okay, all right, the entire man.
Speaker 33 (45:41):
We had a visual on the law I'll just give
you a little hint where we were. We had a
visual on the pop pier on the first day of
Lobster Mini season. Okay, a visual so we could see
it from our boat. All right, relentless. It was good.
We had a good We had a good time. It
was really a lot of fun. And you know, this
is the same cue we've had for I mean, I
(46:03):
want to say one hundred years for a long time.
Speaker 2 (46:06):
Suck that last breath of the carbon monoxide. Have a
nice weekend. Okay, thank you, buddy. You guys, Okay, come
on out. We've got a Starbars bucket to give away

You're saying this live right now.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
I'm gonna be there. I'm blowed off my boat job.
I'm gonna be there.
Speaker 5 (55:32):
Wow, right for the grand finale.
Speaker 2 (55:34):
Flock or so yeah, all right, yeah, a big one.
Speaker 5 (55:37):
He's gonna be there. He hears this, Sean hears this.
Speaker 2 (55:39):
I hear this. Down with it man, we got in
tune on this.
Speaker 9 (55:43):
I got two questions for Johnny while he's on the
air today, Yes please. One is how's a jig bite then?
Because I've been seeing a lot of tun a car
and I personally caught.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
A lot yep.
Speaker 4 (55:54):
So Chris Chris, my business partner at Johnny Jiggs, was
out less than a week could go and they've been
hammering black fin tunas and I'm convinced there's no better
way to catch black fin tunas than than on the jig.
So jig bite has been pretty good summertime. Really, it
just kicks off for myself personally. I've been just venturing
(56:15):
out to other other places and out of our hometown
of Pompano Beach. So I was in Louisiana and the
jig bite was absolutely fire. So it's been been pretty incredible.
Speaker 9 (56:28):
Yeah, speaking of other adventures. Speaking of other adventures, Eric
and Joe, did Johnny bring you some lobster? I've seen
that Johnny gigs out there.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
No, he's he only got four tails. He's waiting to
cook what.
Speaker 5 (56:42):
I'm heading to his house right after here. Got some
yet some stuff.
Speaker 4 (56:47):
I was in Louisiana and my partner went out and
the boys got some lobster for me while as away.
So I missed the mini season personally. However, I will
be out there. I think it's August sixth, they said
it opens.
Speaker 9 (56:58):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (56:59):
Next.
Speaker 9 (56:59):
We have to the end of March now, so we
have plenty of time.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
All right, sel what are you targeting today?
Speaker 5 (57:04):
Man?
Speaker 2 (57:04):
You look at whatever whatever bites pretty.
Speaker 42 (57:06):
Much already baitfish filled, the boat unloaded, back out here
doing a little morning stroll for a while hopefully, and
then we're actually gonna drop some jigs down to me
and get a tuner here before we go in.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
Let me yes, man, how excited are you for Joe's
tournament next weekend? This is the big Daddy. I'm pumped, man,

guys like from Hawaii. Right, we've been kind of like
going back and forth, uh for years. I'm gonna say,
like a decade and a half, right, and I'll.
Speaker 6 (57:50):
Tell you man, for them to finally come, you know
what I mean, fifteen years later for this event is wild.
Speaker 5 (57:59):
It's gonna be It's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 2 (58:01):
That's about as big as Hawaifi, Right, I love it. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (58:04):
We just got off a film with Tyler from nine
to five four Live Bait, and he's like, man, I
get a call from a guy from Hawaii trying to
get bait.
Speaker 8 (58:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (58:14):
Yeah, those guys from why are smart, man, They're loaded
up already get their big requestion. But then again, they
could use Johnny Jiggs yea and not even bother of
the live Baito.
Speaker 4 (58:23):
Those guys they should come to Johnny Jigs Tackle shop
and we've got twenty percent off Johnny jis right now
as well as Temple reef in the store. Okay, So
it's all it's for participants of the extreme kayak fishing tournaments,
especially for you guys. We're right down the street from
where the tournament's at, and pretty much you can just
come in and say you're part of the tournament.
Speaker 2 (58:45):
You'll know there for Hawaii. By the way they talk,
they'll walkers say, hey, shock up, Bra, shock up.
Speaker 5 (58:52):
Hey my bro, you did that good? Hey bro, and bro,
what you cover me?
Speaker 10 (58:58):
Bro?
Speaker 5 (58:58):
Shock up?
Speaker 2 (58:59):
Bro shock brah. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (59:00):
Man, that's what I was thinking. Likes is tough.
Speaker 4 (59:03):
So so these guys can come in and get hooked up,
and I want to make sure they're not coming.
Speaker 5 (59:08):
Up word for sure.
Speaker 8 (59:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (59:12):
One fifty watermelons. I got a stock up for the tournament.
Speaker 3 (59:15):
We we just had a major restock cup. You are
good to go, sh.
Speaker 2 (59:20):
I appreciate it's a special lure.
Speaker 9 (59:22):
It's a very sad I'm I'm convinced that's the best
color and the best size here.
Speaker 3 (59:28):
It's called a fifty water belt watermelon.
Speaker 5 (59:31):
To you're a little pink in that there is there's
a little bit of everything.
Speaker 2 (59:35):
It might be a colored like a watermelon. What do
you think? Yeah, oh, digress all right, Sean, So we're
rambling on his usual runner may we gotta walk the
clock here, but ay.
Speaker 6 (59:47):
Man, have a great day, all right, real quick, real quick, sure,
because a lot of people want to report from Sean.
I've been getting text messages Sean, what's your full on
report right now?
Speaker 5 (59:55):
With Pompino. I know it's you just got on the water,
but what have you been here? And I've been see
and some big blackfan.
Speaker 9 (01:00:02):
It's too close to the tournament to say that. No,
there's some big blacksmen being caught. My friend got a
thirty two pounder earlier this week, So I mean to
say that jumbos are still here, the dumbles are still here.
Not many, wahoo, but we're at a weird spot in
the moon. So hopefully by next week they should really
start picking up. And uh and this kingfisher scattered man.
(01:00:23):
It's not like people are running to get a bunch,
but everybody's getting one or two here or there. So
by the end of the week they should really uh
pick up. Especially a little bit of winter. We're picking up,
temperatures dropping, it's gonna be perfect.
Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
We're late, but if I was a kayak fishing guy,
I would actually shadow Sean as he's heading out, and
I would probably don't saying that if you're have my
fifty yards behind his jack and that would shadow him
wherever he's dropping.
Speaker 9 (01:00:49):
I will fight you on the water. If you do that,
I will take my nautile Venger shirt off, like so
I'm not in a gang, and I will fight you.
Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
He just said, even fight me.
Speaker 5 (01:01:01):
Man, he's gonna have a line of like ten guys.
Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
Now he's pulling shirt off, and ki.
Speaker 5 (01:01:07):
Okay, he would too if I would lose his mind
that it would.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
It be great to have like a fight fist fight
on two guys like y X.
Speaker 5 (01:01:14):
Actually would be a great video.
Speaker 6 (01:01:16):

first couple of years of doing the tournament.
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):

Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure, it looks like it. It's
amazing in the world of fishing that all these guys
we all know each other, you know. Yeah, it's a
small I kind of have a club, you know what
I mean. Oh yeah, it's afore guys you know, definitely
all know what each other's doing. But we're talking about sargas.
I'm still being a major problem to Benny. You still
see that when you're fishing up that way.
Speaker 45 (01:07:49):
Yeah, yeah, I mean. It did clear up a little
bit for us this week inshore as far as you know,
letting us maybe troll planers on the reeves and some
other methods of fishing that have real tough to do
because the sargasm's just been pushed in so far taking
over every area you try to fish. So it has
cleared up a little for us this week in that
(01:08:09):
aspect where the bite did get good, even right on
the edge of the reef.
Speaker 5 (01:08:13):
On the troll.
Speaker 45 (01:08:14):
This week we caught handfuls of sailfish. There was days
where the kingfish you couldn't get them off your line.
Your planers were tripped in two at a time. You know,
small black fins are still hitting around on the troll.
The bigger live bait fisher not as thick as they
are obviously in the springtime. But that's sargasm, man, sticking
to the topic you asked about it. It's one of
(01:08:35):
those things when you're running around off shore, you usually
want to see it. And right now I've been telling
people don't even stop for weeds. Stop when you see
the birds on the weeds, or the birds working away
from the weeds. Even it's been more productive than trying
to work every single weed patch that you come across.
Speaker 8 (01:08:50):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
I love those big, you know, multi yard weed circle patches, Betty.
I've had metch luck with my sudge over the yours
fishing those, and I'll toss a live pilt to them
and they can fly out there. You know, you'll catch
two or three or four little little runts whatever they are,
whatever big butts.
Speaker 10 (01:09:06):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
But yeah, the big patches war not that straggly crap,
you know, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
Exactly, Benny any Wahoo.
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
Yeah, So there's been a handful this week.
Speaker 45 (01:09:18):
I mean the moon's getting bigger right now. Yeah, there's
been a few caught this week, a little you know,
I'd like to say stragglers. But usually around these full
moon you know, full moons in the summertime, we usually
have good bites with the wahoos.
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
So yeah, man, that's like, that's like your fish of fantasy. Man,
every show we've done over the last three years, you've
got this fixation with waho.
Speaker 5 (01:09:42):
What's with the wah I revolved the tournament around that
moon just for wahoo.
Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
You put a tat on your bottom of a wahoo?
Did you?
Speaker 6 (01:09:49):
That fish changed my life? That fish is what started
extreme kayak fishing.
Speaker 45 (01:09:53):
I could still picture that, that picture with Joe on
the kayak with that wahoo and the video. Yeah, I
may picture that from how however many years ago that
was still they went viral.
Speaker 5 (01:10:02):
Man, it was like fifteen years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
It was your whole fixation back then.
Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
Yeah, man, Yeah, it was a sixty five pound wahoo.
Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
What if you had caught like a mola? What is
with you? And would you put a mola tan on
your bottom?
Speaker 9 (01:10:16):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
You're going to do the more four thousand pound molat
of yack?
Speaker 11 (01:10:19):
Do you?
Speaker 5 (01:10:20):
Why do you love Mola Molas.
Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
I feel sorry for him.
Speaker 5 (01:10:22):
Your big cheeks and a little mouth, stupid.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
I feel sorry for him.
Speaker 20 (01:10:27):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
Okay, they're dumb asses of the ocean, all right. See,
you're trying to give them a platform. I want to
give him some support. Man, What do you trade them?
Speaker 5 (01:10:34):
What do you think about that? Benny? I'm wearing my
Mola Mola shirt next week.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
If you got a molamla's shirt, I've got one in
Mike one. That'd be great. Betty, where your bowler's shirt? Okay,
here we go, Johnny. You have no idea what he's
talking about.
Speaker 5 (01:10:52):
Johnny's like, I've been with.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
This Mola thing. Have you seen molos before? No, I
don't even know what if ocean sunfish, I'll show you
a picture of one.
Speaker 5 (01:11:00):
Oh no, don't do.
Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
But anyway, well, I'm looking for this photo for Betty
real quick. I mean for Johnny. What's the seekndis like today? Betty?
Is a flat calm out there or what? Buddy? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:11:10):
No, it is nice and calm.
Speaker 45 (01:11:11):
I mean it's it's that time of the year where
we consistently get a lot of calm seas specifically going
off today though it's.
Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
Looking pretty good. I mean, we got for the morning
trip here.
Speaker 45 (01:11:23):
It's like six to ten miles an hour up the
southeast seas will be less than two feet all day.
I'd say the high is going to be right around
ninety one today, lows around eighty four before the sun
came up.
Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
But looks like a productive day.
Speaker 45 (01:11:36):
We're gonna have high tied right around three point thirty
and pompinos, so it should also be a productive outgoing
tide this afternoon as well.
Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
All right, Well, in preparation the next weekend's show, don't
forget to always ask us a couple of questions, Betty,
always key, how deep? Yes, how far? Yes? Any? Wahoo?
Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
Correct?
Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
Then you'll be also what color?
Speaker 5 (01:11:56):
What color?
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
And what color? Yeah? Thank you. If it's not pay
they're not doing.
Speaker 5 (01:12:00):
It right exactly. Those are the problem.
Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
Benny's on. He's for show time, man, right, alright.
Speaker 5 (01:12:09):
Be either pink or watermelon. We can say watermelon now too.
Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
Okay, fine, hey man, Betty, have a great day, man,
looking forward to next Saturday. We did a show. We'll
talk to her a week about how. A few more
things working around behind the scenes here, but looking forward
to my brother and have a great, great day, bro.
Speaker 5 (01:12:22):
Thanks Benny.
Speaker 2 (01:12:23):

Speaker 3 (01:12:24):

Having a great show with our special guest Johnny set
up for Johnny Jiggs, we can talk more about his
jig lineup and what's new in his world of jigging
and athletics and hardcore catching fish and those bad boys
next capetre Vinnie Sachs. They normal. I've heard is actually
tried a few of those jigs.
Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
Johnny, Oh, Vinnie Is he's one of the og guys
taking guys out.
Speaker 3 (01:17:33):
Oh yeah, he's been doing it forever.
Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
Vinnie, good morning to your brother.
Speaker 22 (01:17:37):
So Vinny, Hey, good morning fellas. How you guys this morning?
Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Doing great talking fishing as always, so Vinnie on the
YB normal you guys ever dropped out some Johnny Jiggs occasionally?
Speaker 22 (01:17:49):
Oh yeah, we know all about those, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
That was the right answer, By the way, thanks very
much for that. Okay, I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (01:17:57):
You know you talk about following Sean rolls around on
the kayak. Yeah, you see the big green wybe normal.
You can that guy around, But nowhere that boat stands
like a sort of thud. That green is is a
mean machine.
Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
Oh yeah, you know he's catching fish darts.
Speaker 2 (01:18:12):
As a week been, Vinnie, what's I saw some of
your post man You've had a couple of good weeks
days rather Yeah.
Speaker 22 (01:18:18):
Yeah, it's pretty good fishing this week. I didn't fish
every day. I had to participate in that mini season.
Of course, I'd like to.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
Die, but real quick. His live wall was loaded m
on the whitey door just loaded out. Man. He puts
a photo of I'm cooking these amazing bugs. I'm like,
come on, man, you're killing me. God anyway, Vinnie continue,
I'm sorry, man, my bad.
Speaker 22 (01:18:43):
Yeah, the the reef's been decent. There's been some kingfish
that showed up, obviously heavy Benita's right now, black fintunas
early in the morning and uh mahis have been hit
and miss offshore, but there's been some to catch a
lot of big patches of weed out. They're a lot
of bait under the weeds. So I did catch a
(01:19:03):
few on Tuesday, fishing all day and we got like
eight or nine keepers. Seems like though the fish are
getting lazy. When the sun got up around noon or so,
I would see him on top and they just wouldn't
even turn on the bait. So sure that the heat's
affected them just as much as it's affecting us.
Speaker 2 (01:19:22):
God, you sick man. Yeah, So, Johnny Steham, you want
to throw a couple of a jig questions door, buddy, Vinnie, Like,
I know, Papa you at him.
Speaker 4 (01:19:29):
Yeah, Well, you know what I was wondering, like, whenever
you take guys out that are you're not not season
Anglerre's guys coming from the middle of the country or
whatever the case going to be and just want to
get tight on a fish here in Florida. Is it
possible to get them on jigs or is it just
a complete mess for you?
Speaker 22 (01:19:47):
Well, it depends on the time of year. I mean,
hopefully they're coming in the spring and summer when the
tunes are around, because just got to really drop it
to the bottom. You'll probably get hit on the way down.
But trying to the jigging thing, I think you need
a little bit of skill with the rod and reel
to be able to do it right or have enough
good opportunity.
Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
Yeah, yeah, a little skill would be good.
Speaker 5 (01:20:10):
Joe, Yeah, that's that's a must.
Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
Looking up on a little bit, looking up a chetch
ept look at the word skill. Yeah, it'll teach you
a little bit. You have them on like a spinner
or like a level wine or something like that. Yeah,
it's it's not a whippy man's sport. Man, I just
don't see guys being whippy using those pretty heavy duty jigs. Together.
You know, dude, your forearms and everything will give you
(01:20:33):
a workout. Yeah, it'll little tiny twizzle sticks. You got whatever, man.
So Vinnie, what about the weak problem?
Speaker 10 (01:20:40):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
I mean, it's it's still a painting painted the butt
out there for you.
Speaker 22 (01:20:44):
Been hid and miss. Some days there's nothing and the
fish or biting, and in other days it's so bad
that you can't even really fish. I mean, hopefully today
it's not bad. I know earlier in the week it
was real hit and miss. It seems like it's really
bad when the sun comes up and then as the
day goes on, it kind of disappears and.
Speaker 9 (01:21:03):
I guess the tide takes it into the beach or
something like that.
Speaker 22 (01:21:07):
But it hasn't been terrible the last few days. But
you know, you never know. Every day is different.
Speaker 5 (01:21:13):
Vinnie, how about Kingfish? Any smokers?
Speaker 22 (01:21:18):
Not real big big ones, but a lot of the
ones are being touched him in around ten pounds or so.
I didn't hear of any big big ones this week,
but like ten pound average fish. I would say, it's
you know, a good place to start. But a lot
of the guys are trolling. Not many guys live baiting
because the weed's so bad. Something fill your live beat.
Speaker 6 (01:21:37):
And I've been hearing about especially this week, that there
was a lot of like big black fins being caught sporadic,
but they were being landed.
Speaker 22 (01:21:47):
Yeah, a few black fins always going to do best
early and late in the afternoon. Right with that, they're
also you know, there's been a few water this week
and it'd see three or four caught right out front.
So you know maybe with this moon coming up that
might bite. August full moon's usually pretty good for walking
out here.
Speaker 5 (01:22:07):
Yeah, very cool, sweet man.
Speaker 2 (01:22:09):
Is what makes your your technique or your catch is
so special because I see every time you come up
with a client, I'm looking at the doctor's fish. You know,
I've been scucked out there and usually nice size fish.
Is it where you go? Is it your technique? Is
your bait combination or what makes you guys look good
on the wybey normal?
Speaker 22 (01:22:27):
Which I'd always use fresh bait. You know, fresh bait's
the best bait. So every morning, try to wake up
early and cut fresh bonita strips. You know, we're fishing
and in a spot, if I get a bite, I
usually just keep circling that area. There's obviously a reason
why the fish are there, so you want to take
advantage of that while you can.
Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
That makes sense to the man. Yeah, stuff sweet. So
you're the water today video. Are you staying land locked
or what's your plan? Man?
Speaker 22 (01:22:56):
No, we got two trips today. We got a three
quarter day this morning and then this afternoon we got
a four hour half day trip. So it's going to
be a long day out there. Bring plenty of plenty
of drinks with you. Just be sweating in another hour.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
So yeah, don't do like I did back in the day. Man,
don't think you're hydrating with beer because it is one
o'clock in the afternoon when it's hot at hell. That's
the worst thing you want to drink is two or
three beers.
Speaker 5 (01:23:21):
Headache?
Speaker 2 (01:23:21):
Man, Oh my, oh god, you get freaking nailed. Yeah, Vinnie,
give us your contact them an official to why be Normal,
my friend?
Speaker 22 (01:23:28):
Please you can look us up on social media y
B Normal Sport Fishing, or you can give us a
call direct at nine five four five five nine hundred benny.
Speaker 2 (01:23:40):
Thanks so much, Ben, You've been a pleasure of the show.
I hope we have many more years to come with
you on a program that one day I I'm bringing
my son's to fishing to y be Normal. I try
to fish with every captain on the show, and you're
definitely next on the list, my brother, So howk him up? Man? Thanks?
Speaker 10 (01:23:53):
Vine?
Speaker 2 (01:23:54):
What you doing? Man? For sure?
Speaker 22 (01:23:56):
I take care of you guys all right.
Speaker 2 (01:23:58):
So he's using jigs and.
Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
People'll call our shop and say, hey, we're coming down
to South Florida. I want to go jigging. Deal a
captain that knows how to you know, fish with guys
who liked the jig. I sent him to Vinnie for
the yab Normal because he's got it just dialed in.
He knows how to jake, he knows how to operate
a boat.
Speaker 2 (01:24:17):
For you guys, you're going to shut it. The other
nineteen captives we have are going like, wow, what do
you cut me out.
Speaker 23 (01:24:21):
Of the.
Speaker 5 (01:24:24):
Vinnie's bottom fishing too is insane?
Speaker 2 (01:24:27):
Like he's got the right hook up.
Speaker 3 (01:24:29):
Yeah, he's good.
Speaker 2 (01:24:31):
Shall we talk to Johnny stadbuild out. Here's Johnny Now?
I must say I called Johnny Stabilt too. Lets ago
the very first time he's not returned my phone call.
Speaker 5 (01:24:39):
My man.
Speaker 2 (01:24:40):
Maybe him and Jim up, but Bud buddy up together
and realized they won't talk. They won't talk to me anymore. Okay,
I don't know. Hey, Johnny, good on, buddy, Johnny, my
favorite guy. Yeah, your favorite get you know.
Speaker 48 (01:24:53):
I've been working NonStop and I saw that you called
me last night, like i'd I didn't see your miss
call till last night at like ten o'clock at night
when I was going to bed, and I was like, huh,
I never saw this.
Speaker 5 (01:25:06):
And I was like, Eric, Dinna give me crap about
it in the morning on the show.
Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
No, I'm not giving you still, I know your busyess.
Heck man, I was just busting your chops. I had
a question for you though that I wanted to ask
them about buying these lures online. Joe. Okay, there's a
line of lures that I like to use, Johnny that
they actually had a business stopped making up. They're called
live target lures. Okay, have you heard of them before?
I mustad and and guys are on eBay selling a
(01:25:34):
single lure for fifty five bucks.
Speaker 5 (01:25:37):
Oh come on, are you serious?
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
I kid you not. And when it's just like make
an offer, I'll offer like forty. I get your offer's
to Clyde like I'm thinking, what the hell's up with that? Man? Wow?
Fifty a damn lure.
Speaker 48 (01:25:52):
What if you want to see something that's absolutely insane,
search megabaths on eBay and you'll see lures go for
over one.
Speaker 33 (01:26:02):
Hundred and fifty bucks.
Speaker 5 (01:26:03):
Wow, there is no way do There's certain baits.
Speaker 33 (01:26:08):
That just get hype, you know, they get so much hype.
Speaker 48 (01:26:11):
When they're available, and then when they go away, the
people are always trying to get their hands on them
because they think there's some magic sauce in them or
whatever the case is. And uh, and people just go
absolutely crazy for them. So you know, I could give
you a handful of jerk baits that work probably just
as good or better than those for eighteen dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:26:34):
Well, I was going to ask you on the phone,
was do you have any special hookup on tackle. I'll
try to try to buy those live targets to you,
but obviously now you're telling me just bypass those to
go to the eighteen dollars lower Joe je Man. Yeah,
but the.
Speaker 48 (01:26:49):
Best and this is a common question that I answer
all the time, which is why I'm kind of continuing to.
Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
Talk about it.
Speaker 5 (01:26:55):
But the best jerk bait that I've.
Speaker 48 (01:26:58):
Ever used for peacock is the Shamano Zumverno ninety five
sp It's a ninety five millimeter jerk bait. It's got
three hooks on it. It's eighteen or nineteen dollars and
it works. It's got a little like flash boost feature
in there. It's basically like a little piece of tinfoil
on some springs, so when you shake the bait, the
(01:27:20):
tinfoil keeps shimmering in the bait.
Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
And it looks like a dying bait fish. Oh that's cool, Joe,
It's fantastic.
Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
I think of Joe. We talked before on the show
that we thought, you know, pay eighteen nineteen twenty bucks
for a lore these days was excessively high. But what
I've seen online, what Johnny just said, was these guys
are asking stupid money for one damn lure. Like, what
are you talking about? Many?
Speaker 3 (01:27:43):
Twenty bucks is the new one dollar bill these days?
Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
I'm not asking.
Speaker 5 (01:27:49):
But isn't that everything? Right now?
Speaker 2 (01:27:50):
Though?
Speaker 5 (01:27:51):
Isn't everything?
Speaker 2 (01:27:51):
Johnny just spill the beat? So what he sells a
Johnny jig for? But you're mighte a hold it? For
got a thing there, man? Yeah, it's a work of art.
Speaker 4 (01:27:57):
But yeah, they started like it's like fifteen bucks and
you could spend forty dollars on a Johnny depending on size.
Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
Well, Johnny, back to you, my friend. What you said,
we booked really solid. So what do we catch this week? Mane?
Besides new lures?
Speaker 45 (01:28:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 48 (01:28:12):
Yeah, actually I just realized Johnny was on the line.
Speaker 5 (01:28:15):
What's up, Johnny?
Speaker 48 (01:28:16):
And we we actually did some vertical digging this past week.
I got a nice probably like you know, fifteen ish.
Speaker 5 (01:28:26):
Pound black fin.
Speaker 48 (01:28:28):
It was a really great size fish, and we had
a big, big sushi party at my house with just
a couple of friends and some family. But aside from that,
I've been you know, I've been just on Lake Ida.
The lake is fishing pretty well. You know, we're averaging,
you know, a little bit less than normal, but it's
(01:28:48):
so good.
Speaker 5 (01:28:49):
Twenty five twenty to twenty.
Speaker 48 (01:28:50):
Five peak ocks per trip for four hours, and usually
we can snag a clown knife fish out of, you know,
somewhere on the lake and that four hours timeframe. So
just it really depends on the angler if they're a
good caster and they can you know, cast themselves and
retrieve themselves and kind of do their own thing.
Speaker 10 (01:29:11):
They're gonna do a lot better than you know.
Speaker 48 (01:29:13):
Like yesterday, I had a kid who's nine, who's a
great fisherman for a nine year old, but flipping docks
is a little bit tough. So we only caught like,
you know, twenty one fish yesterday instead of like twenty
five twenty one.
Speaker 2 (01:29:26):
Well you slacking of Johnny. Yeah, So how you beat
this midday heat? Man? It's been nasty hot every flipping day.
I mean, what are you doing out there? Man?
Speaker 5 (01:29:38):
This heat is like no other that I've ever remembered experience.
Thing right, it's like Brazil. So I work with a
company called Aftco and they have a shirt called the.
Speaker 48 (01:29:54):
Sorry the adapt Change Phase shirt. It's got a you know,
a buff built in like a face mask and a
hood and I have a really nice thin material SPF
fifty And that is the only thing that is getting
me through the day right now, because it is just
it's just too hot. You cannot wear a regular shirt.
(01:30:15):
Even if you wear a short sleeve shirt. You think
you're gonna get around the long sleeve shirt, You're just
gonna get sunburned. And that's way worse than you know,
wearing a little bit of extra clothing.
Speaker 10 (01:30:25):
You know.
Speaker 48 (01:30:25):
So it's that and a lot of gatorade and water
and just you know, trying to eat during the day,
which I don't normally do, keep keep the blood sugar
up so that I don't pass out.
Speaker 5 (01:30:38):
And yeah, I mean we're getting through it. It's it's
a brutal summer. Thankfully.
Speaker 48 (01:30:43):
Next week I'm going up to Rhode Island for three weeks.
Speaker 33 (01:30:46):
To get out of the heat for a little bit.
Speaker 48 (01:30:47):
But I'll still be on the radio show every every saturday'm.
Speaker 6 (01:30:51):
Man, real quick, real quick, Johnny, Johnny, have you fished
it all for tarpin or snook I haven't, but I.
Speaker 48 (01:31:01):
Do know that some people are still catching tarp and
in in ala maratta and game bag.
Speaker 5 (01:31:07):
I haven't been.
Speaker 6 (01:31:08):
Okay, are you happy, Joe? Yes, okay, because I want
to go soon. I'm gonna take the Hawaii guys I
think on the beach.
Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
For maybe throwing out of them. Wahoo, Jeff, Johnny that question, Yes.
Speaker 5 (01:31:19):
Johnny, any wahoo in lake Ita?
Speaker 2 (01:31:24):
Yeah, there you go, Joe, you got it in, Joe,
props to you, bro. That's great. All right, Johnny had
a great weekend. Mat Stay cool, if you can't.
Speaker 5 (01:31:34):
All right, see you buddy, all right, see you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:31:36):
Take a little break. We're talking to Joe with the forecast.
We'll talk to Skip Braydean and the keys. Yeah. Go

up a ship chat with Johnny little more in the

Speaker 35 (01:38:14):

Speaker 52 (01:38:16):
Maybe October. Yeah, it's gonna be hot this weekend too.
Twenty percent chance of rain today sunny her ninety.
Speaker 53 (01:38:24):

Speaker 52 (01:39:15):
So here in like the doldrums of summer.
Speaker 2 (01:39:17):
Yeah, I guess it'll end, Joe sometime round Christmas time probably,
I don't know. Man, Well, Jenny's I think today's National
Chicken McNugget Day. So you guys should get on a

Speaker 5 (01:39:53):

Speaker 10 (01:39:56):
Have a good one.
Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
All right, Yeah, shall go to the keys now their Joey,
Let's let's do it. Johnny with a great legend himself,
Captain Skipped the Man Brave Dean Cat and skid ude.
Speaker 54 (01:40:12):
Hey guys, how's it going.
Speaker 2 (01:40:13):
What's up? Mister Happy?
Speaker 5 (01:40:15):
How you doing, buddy?
Speaker 54 (01:40:17):
I'm happy. I'm in book a time. My son just
coming from New York and we went out to Mateo's,
a nice steakhouse and up Italian restaurant, and just getting
ready to got some preference going back down the keys.
And boy, it's beautiful up here and feels by his
ten degrees cool a boy, it's been some kind of
uh really, I guess everywhere down there it's been very
very warm and it's hot. I'm kind of worried about
(01:40:38):
it for the uh, this four run of fish. It's
this water tempag like this. It might be a while
if others fish get all the way up and turn
around and start coming back. But anyway, we'll see. It's
been very slow, very slow this week. I just got
up here today yesterday, but I've been down on the
docks and it's been very slow. Small fish and uh,
you know, just a very difficult fight to find him
(01:40:59):
and just stop pouring through very well. And it is
what it is. We're in indulgence right now. It's it's
we need we need a good shot of something to
influx or something because it's bainly been really been quiet
out there, guys.
Speaker 5 (01:41:12):
Well skip.
Speaker 2 (01:41:13):
Our guest on the show today is is Johnny stet
up from Johnny Jiggs and Johnny Skip skip Johnny. So
he's been a legendary captain. He's been a keys captain
for sixty five thousand years. Down there is both called
a blue chip too. Skip. You ever use any kind
of jigs in your Day's efficient at all?
Speaker 28 (01:41:32):
Oh?
Speaker 54 (01:41:32):
Yeah, you know what, that's a great way to go.
You control around, troll around and say it's in slow
and slower. Next thing you know, you you come up
a little rockfall, you know, a foight out there, and yeah,
it's always something to do. And I'll tell you what.
It gives people something to do too. I like to
teach you angle how to rapidly use the jigs and
they have a lot of fun and you drop down
(01:41:52):
and sometimes you will get a bite and people say, well,
he's just doing that because of something to do. But
then again, next thing, you know, you hook a big
fish like an amber, you act a group or a snapper,
and it's a lot of fun. I've got plenty plenty
I had. I'm right, Retie sold all that, But I
have all that stuff on a about every color, every weight,
whatever you could think of. Yeah, that's a good way
to go ahead and change up on the day when
(01:42:13):
nothing else was happening. There's no doubt about it. Or
like Wayne says he does, he makes him living doing that. Boy,
he knows what he's doing with that stuff, and it's
a lot of fun. Once you develop a clientele that
likes that, you can really really have a good time
with it.
Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
Yeah, skif I gotta say something, I finally open that
packet you gave me, and I'm not gonna go the
clock is rocket here. But that thing was loaded with memories, glory.
I've not seen some of those things in like thirty
freaking years or twenty years, man, I believe.
Speaker 8 (01:42:38):
Yeah what yah.
Speaker 2 (01:42:39):
It was just nostalished about his life.
Speaker 8 (01:42:41):
It was.
Speaker 2 (01:42:43):
Mandage and all that stuff.
Speaker 9 (01:42:44):
Yeah yeah, uh yeah.
Speaker 54 (01:42:46):
And and know my bake wayno cravadis wayna. He was
really in that. He was with me thirty four years.
And I'm sure that's a Guinness World's record. We never,
you know, apply for anything like that. But the one
deckhand is stay in the cockpit for thirty four years
or something. He just passed away. It's about two months
now enough. He was really the lifeblood of keeping me going,
(01:43:06):
made me you know where I wound up, because he
ran the boat he ran. I did radio shows, you
know for thirty years. When I was on vacation, he
picked up and to the radio shows. And he was
the all around man. I'll tell you what. He was,
the iron man, they called him. And I sure missed him.
And when he when he left us, he equip when
he turned sixty three, and boy I had truck time
having anybody come close to replacing him. And and then
(01:43:29):
he passed away just about three months ago. And that's
the story at Wino.
Speaker 2 (01:43:33):
Yeah, sorry about that, seriously about that, losing good friends
before you go skip real quick, man, give us the
keys report what you guys would catch it that way this.
Speaker 54 (01:43:41):
Week, which just small mahi's and small small and tell
you what, nothing much out There's the two in officials
smaller than the mahi out there on the humps, and
not much you know, the mango snapper and the yellow tail,
those two fishes still by. In fact, the mango staff
is better this week than any week of report. But
I'm glad you brought that up. The mango snapper fish
(01:44:02):
and buffa. We'll have a forty to sixty foot they're
biting rapidly well now, thank goodness, and you got to
know that we'll keep doing with that now because there's
the limit. I don't they change it all the time.
And I've been out of the roll there for a
while the last few years. So they the limit. I
think it's five. If you don't have five, well you
can have five yellow tail and five minute aggregate tech.
So you really got to pay attention to what's changing
(01:44:23):
and the rules. But the mango stappers are on the
ticket right now to go fishing if you like catching
them and eat And who doesn't like eating the mango
stapp you know?
Speaker 2 (01:44:31):
Oh man, you love that? Right, buddy boy, we'll skip in.
Joy your time with your family here at Booker toug
Glad you're kind of a local guy this weekend. Thanks
again to have a great weeknd my friend, to do
what you do best, catch them up.
Speaker 54 (01:44:42):
