Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're on board the Nautical Ventures Weekly Fisherman Show with
legendary fisherman Eric Brandon, an extreme angler, Joe Hector, powered
by Mercury Marine, Go Boldly.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Holy Banita, belly Baby, Welcome to the Nautical Ventures Weekly
Fisherman Show. You're number nineteen.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
It's the number one fishing show on a planet based
on social media. We broadcast around this world, and of
course of the Powerhouse ninety I and z Hi Knude
Jeff at Knie for this fly the ship and to
Stephen J. Gray, thank you, my friend, for setting this
whole thing up and having us here today.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
Good morning, Welcome to the thunderstorm.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
It is a rainy, nasty looking day. If you're watching
the Facebook stream, which I'm not sure alive yet, we
maybe or a nine forty to my right. It's the
very first time in history of the show, and I've
had many many guys of importance like Stephen and Joe.
Tell me, next time I'm out man to the tournament,
have a captain in that chair. I finally figured it
out after nineteen Drive Benny Skoka, Benny's Fishing Charters.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Benny, welcome, brother, Welcome, Good to have you here. Man
good to have me. Thanks, thanks for having me. Yeah,
very good.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
It's only as your leading song seven oh five. Obviously,
So he made a comment on the stream last night
and going to like, oh, it's great to have a
Jets fan co hosting the radio show.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
I was gonna wear a Jets shirt today, mister Stevens.
So your past is man, Piper High School grad.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
You grew up down here in Sunrise, right, yeah WKPX
Piper High School grew up in Sunrise.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
And bringing that mike close to your face man.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Eighty eight point five FM.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
That's exactly right, man, you're exactly right on that one.
And you mentioned in your post you brought up your
teacher's name, right, was it Fouley or Farley?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Mister Farley, missus Slack. They were the two radio teachers
back then.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Yeah, mister Farley, you.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Got you got a little little radio on, yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:55):
A little bit, a little bit, had some time on
the air, reading some public service announcements and playing some
classick rock or hip hop music back then.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Very cool.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
And of course you transitioned out of that intoo fishing,
which we're gonna talk about later on. How you got
this whole game of sport fishing and chartering and all
that good stuff you're doing. Man, Yeah, we could get
into it. We got a lot to talk about now.
Joe's currently on the beach at Papolo in the rain, probably.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
You guys, Eric, So you know, I've got the radar up.
It's not looking too pretty.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Are we got streaming steam or what? Man?

Speaker 6 (02:24):
I think?

Speaker 2 (02:24):
So we'll see it, man, I will see it.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Well, that's every week.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
That's my sorry s phone anyway. So Joe's with the
f cat. This is series number two, the big finale
of the Summer Slam. It's the big payday kind of day, Benny.
They got kingfish and wahoo and dolphin or whatever else.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Man, Yeah, tuna, kobea mackerel. It's a big tournament. A
lot of different eligible species, African pompinos they're eligible. It's
a fun one, man. I give those guys a lot
of credit. I had a few years going out there
on the kayak. It's a lot of work involved, from
getting the kayak ready, lugging it down the beach, bringing
all your gear down there with you.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
It's a mission, man, gave.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
The ects are so trucked out these days, and like
the basic Hoby, You've got fish finders and gaff holders
and down riggers and just everything. Guys are flying kites
off over guys.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
So they got live wells with flowing water and through
holes in the kayaks, so you've got constant water flowing
to your bait.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
That's a real, real technique.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Joe's got guys, like fifteen guys in Hawaii came over,
so it's really really big to do. Meantime, my first
captain standing by waiting me to suck my flace face
rather and bring them on. Normally Joe does this big
rambling intro to Jimbo Thomas. But I'm just gonna bring
them on just cold, okay, shall we?

Speaker 5 (03:35):
I mean, every week Joe puts that pressure on Jimbo.
Let him just come in smooth this week man and
do his thing.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
I like the way you think.

Speaker 7 (03:42):
Man.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
By the way, okay, So the one, the only on
the Thomas Flyer, he is mister jim Bo Thomas on
the show Jim bullgod one and Buddy good Morning.

Speaker 7 (03:52):
That was the best intro ever, short and sweet.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
No copa, no rambling crab here. But anyway, Benny correct me,
jim Jimbo, Benny good morning Cat.

Speaker 7 (04:04):
Good morning Benny. How are you good man?

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Good man? He run to be here, Benny's fishing charters
out of I think, what beat? Yeah? Okay, so very cool. Okay,
some of your stuff going on?

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Well, jim Bo, it's raining like a dog over here
in happy Stephen j gray Land, do you see that
stuff where you are?

Speaker 7 (04:21):
Not yet? But I looked at the radar and it's
not looking too pretty. So Joe's kayakers might be in
for a lovely day, okay, but it's yeah, it's looking
like it's inevitable that we're gonna get rained. Because I
looked down, I'm like, being is blowing a little bit,

(04:41):
and then I looked at the raidar. I'm like, oh,
not good. But man, we have beautiful weather all week
though up till today. Of course the weekend the weather
those when it's supposed to get bad. Yes, And the
lobster season opened on Wednesday, so there's been a lot
of boats trying to catch lobster, so not a lot

(05:02):
of fishing pressure the last couple of days. But the
guys that made it offshore have had some success with dolphin.
Some of the boats didn't, though, so it's still very
hit or miss. I know one of the Dean Painos
who you know, he had his limited dolphin on let's
say it must have been on Wednesday. Was there Thursday

(05:25):
and he said he hit a school and they caught
their limit and they left them. But then there's another
half dozen boats out there that didn't catch any So
you got to just get lucky and find the right
group of fish. And they were all keepers. They're biting
and the rest of the guys that are going around

(05:45):
in circles looking for them but just never did find them.
So there's still that and the seaweed has still been
very bad in areas. You go through areas where it's cleaned,
and you go through areas reaching hardley fish. I was
ivan lobsters on Thursday and there was a patch of
grassic came over the reef that had to be one

(06:08):
hundred yards square and you could have walked on it
was it was so thick. So that's stuff that you
might want to find offshore, although again it's been so
much weed that it's not what I'm trying to think
of the word not concentrated. So the fisher have so

(06:31):
many options to find weed to hide under, to feed on,
they're not really hiding under at their feeding on it,
so it's just scattered out across the whole ocean. So
birds have been one of our best tools for the
dolphin because the birds have been working on top of them.
And if the fish are moving to the south, they're

(06:53):
going to be better sized ones typically than the fish
moving to the north. And we witnessed south moving fish
in North fish the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
So, Benny, would you pick Captain Jimbo's brain and captain
the captain? How do you battle the elements out there
with sarcasm and things when they get just kind.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
Of calming me with mother nature? Yeah, no, it's like
everything he was saying. He started saying as I was
thinking it, when he was saying, how there's so much
weeds out there. You can't even really focus on the weeds.
You got to focus on the birds instead. You know,
if you hit every weed patch, you'll be jumping patch
to patch. There's so much weeds out there, you know,
if you just focus on the birds, they'll lead you
in the right direction, you know. And then going on
the north fish and the north birds and the South birds.

(07:34):
You know, I always hear that from people see that
myself a lot. Sometimes we always say the fish moving
south might be less fish, bigger fish, and the fish
moving north might be bigger schools but smaller fish.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
So you know, it's it's like science out here. We
fish put patterns on it.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Man, You know, kids, science is right. I give Jimbo
always follows up. I give them the bird every weekend,
so Jimbo follows off.

Speaker 7 (08:00):
I don't even need my binoculars to see that.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Burn give it to me in return, So don't worry
about that I give them away.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Is the flyer head not today? Are you locked? Man?

Speaker 7 (08:11):
Now, we're not out today. We've been diving the lobsters
the last few days and nothing going on today. You know,
charter business has still been pretty slow for most of us.
I'm sure then he can attest to that, and so
I have no uh, no problem. After we've seen that
radar not going out today. Now, if it does clear up,

(08:32):
maybe I'll go out in the little boat and see
if I catch some lobsters since I've been doing that
all week. But also I was going to say, there's
been some kings along the edge on the planers and
a few benitas, but the fish have been super deep.
I guess with it this hot and the water is
not that any hotter than usual, I don't think for

(08:56):
this time of the year, and the fish probably aren't
any deeper than usual for this time of the year.
But we've been using a three or four planar to
get down pretty deep, so we're fishing thirty feet down
and we're getting some king bites. I haven't had any wallhoo's,
but there have been some wall Who's caught in the
last week as well, so there's been a lot of

(09:18):
planar fishing activity. Therefore, there's a lot of baits possibly
pulled in front of a wall who's face, so there's
been a few caught.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
Does that make sense If he had mentioned front of
Joe on the show, Joe would actually take his hat
off and had that big patch of sarcasm on his
head just can fly it out because he's a I.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
Was just about to ask him what color lure was
working the best for him this week.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Well, I ask you, man.

Speaker 7 (09:44):
I. I Usually for pulling the planer, we fish a
sea witch with a beanita strip and we use typically
a pink seawitch on one side, and then we'll use
a blue and white on the other side. Yeah, some
days we get equal amounts of bites, and some days
one or the other will out fish the other, whether

(10:06):
it's coincidence or not. But I don't. I haven't been
fishing a spoon at all. We've been been pulling two
sea witches, and I haven't had any wahoo bites. But
we've had some decent kings and catch a few banitas,
and then we recycle those beanitas cuts or strips out
to catch more beanitas.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
And more kings summertime hustle.

Speaker 5 (10:28):
You're a big fan of pulling the dinners and sea witches, Benny. Yeah,
and Pompino Beach, that's our bread and butter man. Like
he said, you're working the benitas all summer long. We're
stock piling them up for the winter time. We're recycling
them right back into the spread the next day. And
you know, while you're picking out your beanitas, you're gonna
pick off your tunas, woahoo's, Mahi king fish stuff like
that and get the customer some dinner in the process.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
By the way, Jimbo, I've seen having a lot post
these up and he cuts the most amazing baninas, belly
strips I mean these are like made by Einstein. I mean, man,
they're like, well, actually geometrically perfect, Benny, it's an art form.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
It is an art.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
Someone who doesn't cut him every day is going to
look at that and think it looks perfect. But someone
like Jimbo might look at my strip and think it's
just a regular old Benita.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Stay, jim he's much kinder.

Speaker 7 (11:11):
Well, you wouldn't be too impressed with mine, I don't think.
But honestly, once it is out there behind that sea,
which it doesn't have to be perfect, it only looks
perfect for us the fish as long as it pulls straight,
because after you pull it for five or ten minutes,
the edges curl up stuff, so it doesn't make much difference.

(11:32):
But it is nice to have some nice, pretty looking
ones sitting on the cutting board, at least.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
Especially when you sell him like Betty does. So you
want to look like really super Well, there you go.

Speaker 7 (11:41):
You don't want to buy some retarded looking strips.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
No, there's a lot of retardations on the show here,
but other than that, don't be him as a retarded strips.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Anyway. Jim Bo, thanks for working the first of the
shoot Man I'm glad you're on the program.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Thanks for getting let for us. So even you got
fishing today. Go keep catching those bugs and Betty Jimbo
Jimbo Betty. Guys are new budget. Many had nice tatting
with you.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Man.

Speaker 7 (12:02):
Yeah. Likewise, well, good luck everybody, have a great day.
Stay dry.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Do you find that Benny asked fewer silly questions that
Joe does? Or is he on pointer? What do you
think they're? Jibo?

Speaker 7 (12:14):
Definitely less dumb questions because he knows what's going on.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
You know, well, Joe's would ask him how deep? How
many wa?

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Who have you seen any tunas? Joe's got a whole
repertoire of the questions got.

Speaker 7 (12:28):
Okay, Well you know, Joseph kayak fisherman. What can you expect?

Speaker 3 (12:32):
Oh wow, they talked about this in those kayak guys.
Holy mackerels. You think I doubt it? Seriously right now?
He's ready to launch man anyway, jim But thank you, buddy,
have a great week. You bet say dry buddy, you
got it.

Speaker 7 (12:46):
Good luck everybody.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
I've just tuned in Benny Scolpe for Benny's fishing charters
are special VIP in the hot seat co host today, Benny,
I can tell you something. Man, You've got one rock
and tan. Man, did you know like we're sun block
on that boat or.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
What I'm I mean?

Speaker 5 (13:00):
When you're out there every day, you get the tan,
whether you put the sunblock on or not. But now
I don't like to use it as much. It gets
a little slippery, little greasy on the rods.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Is that kind of like the Italian blood you got
going on? It gives you a little more glow.

Speaker 5 (13:11):
Yeah, I'm greasy enough as an Italian, so i don't
need all the lotion on me. Greasy enough as an Italian. Okay,
the Italian folks are going like, what did you just say?

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Take a little breaking back.

Speaker 3 (13:20):

Speaker 3 (17:26):
First time in the show's history having someone who's a

Speaker 2 (17:34):
But in all morning, maybe get an FCC license. Man,

no longer. Steven knows man for sure. Anyway, Benny's on
the show for Joe. Joe's on the beach.

Speaker 16 (17:47):
Now.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
We watched the radar just sort to break, dude, it is.
It's whacking everywhere.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
That looks like a storm offshore.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Bro Gray, it looks bad.

Speaker 16 (17:55):
Man.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
You do this all the time on seven Flying your
You ever have to fly a drone in the weather
like that?

Speaker 2 (17:59):
No?

Speaker 4 (18:00):
Never, No, No, five thousand dollars drawing in that.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
I agree, Yeah, leave it drawn on the ground, Yeah
for sure. Anyway, it's a little rainy, so hopefully those
guys are gonna break in the weather after seven o'clock
or saw.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
I don't know, man, you told me. We'll see man
if it clears up. I mean they call it extreme
kayak fishing for a reason.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
You gotta you gotta ask some cojones to go out
there and do this thing, man, right, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
You gotta have some coconies to do it out there
when the weather's good. Let alone, it's storming like Sean Rowls.
But that guy's at there all the time. Man, no
matter what, he's hardcore. He's a cold blooded killer man.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
So our next to the capital the show. You may
not know, I'm Corey Nowakowski. He's like the eight time
snakehead Master.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Okay. Yeah, and this dude, you don't play around. Corey
is hardcore. Okay. He's got a pat did laugh by
the way that I always bust his jobside. Cory, How
you doing, buddy, go on it to you.

Speaker 16 (18:49):
I'm good.

Speaker 17 (18:49):
How are you? How are you guys?

Speaker 2 (18:51):
A little rainy out here, man, you guess some rain
where you are.

Speaker 17 (18:56):
Uh yeah, there's it's mostly to the coast. I'm more
a little bit inland. But it was a lightning show
this morning, so definitely definitely a lightning show. But I'm
going fishing as long as the lightning slow down.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
So that's good hardcore. So, Benny, this is Corey Corey.
Benny Corey. Nice to meet you. Man. How's gone?

Speaker 17 (19:17):
Nice to meet you.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
How you doing pretty good? Pretty good? Man?

Speaker 5 (19:19):
Yeah, I've seen a lot of your snake heads over
the years. I think we're friends on Facebook. I think
I started following you right after you got one of
your first records, maybe years back. But uh yeah, I
always see your work, man, I see the fish you've
been doing your thing, man, congrats.

Speaker 17 (19:34):
Yeah, yeah, no, it's cool. It's that's that's cool. I've
been following for that for that long time. That's I
think now that I'm remembering because I got just so
many people, and so many people will follow it. That's
I kind of lose track sometimes.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
So it's tough being famous, Corey. I to get that
bed I understand. Anyway, how's your week, Ben, what's been
biting my friend?

Speaker 17 (19:56):
It's it's been good. I mean like it's we've it's
even snakeheads. Of course, I'm a lot of the trips
I've been having, and you know, that's most of what
I've been doing. I've been some peacock bass. I've been
doing some of that as well, but the snakeheads has
been really good. We got them up to a little
over twelve pounds this past week. We've got some fish

(20:20):
over ten you know nine's ten's as well, So it's
we've gotten not all the fishery even catching to that size,
but we've gotten some big ones. The one day I
got out, I got thirty one and it was, like
I said, the base one was just over twelve. We
we've gotten some peacock bass too. I got Bigg's was

(20:40):
five pounds, so that's not being too bad either, So
you can deal with me.

Speaker 18 (20:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Yeah, I've done some fresh water fishing.

Speaker 5 (20:49):
Definitely did some snakehead fishing over time, over my times
and part of growing up out west.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
That green frog off the bank, like like Cory stutters all, yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
Yeah, just drag that frog man, Drag that frog man. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
I know Corey has taught us over the last couple
of months or years whatever. These snake heads are pretty
much anything you throw at him, I mean little you
can throw a chicken wing at him, which we have
a whole new story about some record fish and feeding
in the pond. Win going there, but that's a whole
big investigation happening.

Speaker 16 (21:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
Snake heads are one of those aggressive fish. I feel
like sometimes they just hit out of instinct. You see
something running from them, Yeah, they feel like it's you know,
they got to chase it and hit it either way,
whether they're hungry or not. And they attack hard, man, Yeah,
they hit hard. They'll see Rod snap on them things.
Guys going to set hooks on a snakehead and snap
in a bass.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Rod Corey is a very hard tackle, by the way,
he's learned that less than everye.

Speaker 7 (21:43):
Corey.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
You got some heavy gear.

Speaker 17 (21:45):
Yeah, yeah, I have. I mean, like I said, you
can catch him on you know, light tackle, but it's
you know, if you're fishing some pretty nasty cover and
really you know a lot of good snags and you know,
docks and stuff like that, I mean, you're you need
a heavier tackle, especially if you get a big one.
I mean, because they run very similar to a snook,
but the snoke fights harder. But They're very similar in

(22:06):
the way that they'll they'll look for something to wrap
you up on, especially those bigger fish.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
Yeah, you know, they'll go for the.

Speaker 17 (22:13):
First tree, piling, you know, whatever snag they can find
and cut you off or wrap you up because they
do the death roll like gators, so they'll do that
too and wrap up.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
They'll snap your right off.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
So very cool.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
So well, I've discovered a lower corey. I've been I've
been searching this lowre on eBay at Benny Uh. I've
been a fan of live target lures. Have you ever
heard of them?

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (22:34):
They have this a crylic corey that a crylic ball
with a little lush like fish, multiple fish inside of them.

Speaker 17 (22:40):
They look at oh yeah, the fishball.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
The fishball, right yeah, baseball babyll They have some some
guy on eBay stupid money like forty five bucks apiece
to fifty bucks. I'm like trying to go back and
with making negotiations. He goes offer to Clyde, Offer to Clyde.
He knows they're hard to find. So I started tossing
those live target lawyers off my balcony for peacock back
and they're like, welcome back.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
Eb they're slamming them. Yeah yeah, lawers corey at all.

Speaker 17 (23:07):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, No, I have a use it for
large amount of bass and peacocks as they work real well.
I even when I went to Malaysia five you this
five six years ago, I caught actually the seventeen pound
giant snakehead I caught on that, so uh so that
was a that was the biggest fish I've ever caught

(23:28):
on that on one of those.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
Look the bait ball thing, I've got major backup, nots
and just things, so I won't be breaking it off
like I've done before this week.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
But anyway, they're expensive.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
But anything anything in the world of tackle, Benny's you
and will be a you know, commercial fisherman and also
being a licensed captain with clients, there's nothing cheap when
it comes to tackle. Brother was, rods, reels, lowers, whatever, right,
anything in the fishing or boating industry. It's almost like
they charged triple they know we're gonna pay it anyway.

Speaker 17 (23:56):
Yeah, exactly to say boat right.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
When it comes to buy and tackle, you know, health
expensive stuff is right.

Speaker 17 (24:02):
Yeah, I mean I'm by buy a fifteen dollars z
Man jackhammer, catter baits and the jerk baits I use
for peacocks or whatever.

Speaker 16 (24:11):
Snooke.

Speaker 17 (24:12):
You know the Lucky craftster fifteen sixteen dollars a piece,
So yeah, I know too well. I expend it, but
I'll buy it if it works.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
I have a question for Corey and Benny. I'm up
street he if you toss the lure, like say, towards
the bank and just say you get hooked in a tree.
Now normally would you go chase that lure down and
try to get them out of the branches, or we
just say, a the hell, just cut the line and
move on a tight of the lure.

Speaker 17 (24:36):
I'm going for I'm going for it. I'm going for it.
I'm doing whatever I can to get that lu. I'll
even go swimming if I have to.

Speaker 5 (24:45):
I got a technique over the years. I point my
rod tip at the lure stuck in the tree, reel
as tight as I could, and then pull it towards me,
so it's like I'm not bending the rod and pulling
back and putting the tension on it, and that either
snapped it out the tree or you break your line.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Does it ever come back? Like the head man you have
like fly hooks by your by your ear. Yeah, of
course it's.

Speaker 17 (25:05):
Yeah, yeah, it's a risky take.

Speaker 16 (25:07):
Yeah, exactly right, very cool.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
All right, of course we're heading out to man. Where's
your fishing the adventures are they going?

Speaker 17 (25:15):
Uh, we're going with the rain around, I'm going snakeheads
Uh definitely today. So I'm uh, we're gonna see what
we can do, maybe get a clown knife fish and uh,
you know, we'll see what else hits local.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
Local canals every glades where you're going.

Speaker 17 (25:30):
Yeah, no, we're going local canals. So yeah, we're gonna
gonna run out there and it maybe ever Glades tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
Pretty good questions from Mter Captain Coy here. I never
cut one of those clowns.

Speaker 5 (25:42):
Are they out in the Everglades that you got to
just get them on the local canals.

Speaker 17 (25:46):
There's there's some that they've been venturing out into the
glades a little bit too, like up on like locks
of Hatchie they've been getting in there, but it's mostly
like the local canals like Ida and the canals that
are like west of it that's up in Palm Beach
County that's mostly like four forty one and stuff that's
for you. That's where a lot of them are. Oh

(26:07):
this some down like Dade. Yeah, there's some in Dade
County too. They pop up and broward every now and again,
but they're mostly U from Palm Beach.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Gotcha.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
So well, hey, Corey, I have a great day match,
Stay dry, watch out of the lightning. That's always the
biggest thing we have on Yeah, but you've been great.
It is always bringing a strong have a great weekend,
stay dry and stay out of the electricity.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 17 (26:31):
Yeah, yeah, we won't deal with any of that, but
thank you and have a good weekend.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
Guys too, they look out there today. So our guest
co host is Corey. Corey now costumes on their phone.
Just now we have Benny Skulk for Benny Fishing Charters. Benny,
when did you get into the sport man? Did you
just decide to do this out of high school? Or
how'd you wall this thing?

Speaker 5 (26:50):
I mean, fishing was always one of those things you
love growing up in South Florida, growing up out west,
not coming from a lot of money, you know, it
was kind of tough to get on boats, so I
was always fresh water fishing. My mom would tell stories
how I grab a loaf of bread after she just
bought it and comes home.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
From work and the bread's gone. I'm out by the
lake catching brim and peacock's and oscar. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (27:09):
I mean, you know, you start fishing over the years.
I was lucky to have a few families in my life.
One of my buddies growing up with Mike Newman, his
dad fire chief over at North Lauderdale. He was a
big fisherman. They take me down to the keys the Bahamas.
Papa Bear Fishing Charters is Mike's dad's company, and he
was someone that kept me busy as a kid, even
in high school. You know, I go work on the
boat for just tips or very minimal pay, just because

(27:31):
we want to be out there.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
So I was lucky with that growing up.

Speaker 5 (27:35):
And then you know, you start working in commercial boats
and start working for some charter companies and seeing sometimes
how poorly some of these people treat their customers, and
it was almost like if they could do it, I
could do it, you know, and got into the game.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
Man, I want to chat GPT last night, and actually
they know you want chat GPT. I should tell me
about Captain Benny Skoka. Gave me a whole list of
your background regally started fishing from. But it also has
some client reviews, which I'm going to read on the
show later. And dude, they're outstanding. Well way good one.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
No, they're all actually I couldn't find one bad one.
They were really rocking.

Speaker 4 (28:10):
Hold on, I'm working on it.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
Yeah, Steven finds all the dirt. Man, it's somebody.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Okay, but we'll go there and take a little break.
But they come back and talk more about your past
and how you got your first boat. I want to
know about your first boat, you know, when asking you
about your best catch and what your worst moment is,
Like guys casting fly rods off the back for Platuna,
which we talked about before trolling him.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
His worst moment was when he became a Jet fan.
Just remember that.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
Yeah, speaking of which, it's preseason though, man, Yeah, Saturday Night,
I'm ready to see him play. Oh geez, I'm not happy.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
I don't take a little break and pay some bills

Speaker 3 (32:09):
I brought up where you went to high school and
brought up some reviews about you from clients. They were
all and you saw fantastic reviews, I might add, surprisingly,
so surprisingly. I know you're a very great guy with
your clients. You know, you put up a lot of stuff. Man, Right, we.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
Try, we try. This is Wayne Conn. You met Wayne.
Wayne Conn runs a reward fishing fleet on the base side.
Oh I know that boat. Okay, you know the boat? Yeah, right,
that boat's a famous boat down here.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
It is man Wayne Conn, Benny Skoka, Wayne, Benny, Benny Wayne.

Speaker 16 (32:37):
Good good, Hey you good morning Betty.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Out in the morning.

Speaker 16 (32:41):
Well yeah, he saw you, buddy. What's that sir?

Speaker 3 (32:46):
Just you know, Benny Waite has never short on words.
Wayne could go with me for nineteen hours and never
take a Breakga, Hey.

Speaker 16 (32:54):
Listen if a skip was I saw a skip down
now Morada a few months ago. And he goes, yeah, man,
I hear you back on the show again. That skip's
worse than me, so please come on.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
He talks miles a minute, by the ways, but anyway, yeah,
I hear you. So he does a big fifty two
foot monster head boat.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
He's on.

Speaker 5 (33:14):
Yeah, yeah, I see a lot of great bottom fish
online coming up off the reward all the time.

Speaker 16 (33:18):
You know, guys, look, look, I will brag a bit.
It is what I have always done very well, and
to me, bottom fishing it has been. It's not like
a lot of guys can throw up two kites and
six base and think they're all that. But anybody can
be taught to do that really quick. There's other nuances
to that kind of fishing that can make you better

(33:40):
than some. When it comes to pinpoint fishing. To pinpoint fishing,
pinpoint that type of stuff, there's an expertise to it.
It takes a lot of years and you can't teach it.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
Mister Wayne or Eric, Why do they call a headboat
a headboat. I don't get it sounds you know why?

Speaker 16 (33:59):
Okay, you know it's funny. I had that question years ago,
and it's it's because at one time, because people pay
per head that's and I think it came out of
New York like that.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Yeah, I that before.

Speaker 16 (34:13):
What about party boat But but that's it. You know,
the party boat business I started back and you know,
it was back at Hallover, was in the early I
got my cabin's license nineteen seventy one. Man, I said,
I'm an old guy and as a kid. And the
guys that had boats there all came from New York.
They those guys. My boss that I learned from Cap
Rudy was a tugboat captain in New York. Uh, they

(34:33):
all had a history from up there that brought businesses
down here. Some of the guys had businesses. They would
go up there and they'd come back come down here
in the summer. But the headboat party boat business in
the seventies eighties was crazy up up in New England
and stuff. These guys were buying bigger, better, faster boats
all the time. And uh, it's it's that the business

(34:54):
at that time was crazy. There was one hundred and
something boats, like one hundred boats at Captree, like the
charter party boats and fifty half day boats. It was crazy. So,
you know, it's a dying thing. In a lot of ways.
We try to provide an economical alternative to get people
offshore fishing. That's the best way I can put it
in the least words. And it's challenging. It's very challenging

(35:16):
to get people to the dock to actually catch fish.
You know, it's become more we are in more of
a you know, in this day and age of pressures.
Everybody's getting pressures everywhere. We just try to get people
at good time and we try to throw in the
most expertise we can in the period of time. I
have to give it. That probably is the best description

(35:36):
of what we do. Nowadays. We have not We don't
sell fish. We haven't sold fish in years. I don't
even know if I still have a license. It used
to be a huge part of what we do, but
not anymore. Man. We just want to go out and
teach people, have fun. If we have people that want
to learn stuff, we teach them. You know, myself and
my crew can teach almost any kind of fishing that's

(35:57):
available out there. So you know in the books, you know,
getting getting vertical jig and slow pitched jigen, these kind
of cool new stuff that's new techniques that are out there.
We've been doing it for years, so you know, my
goal is to bring a lot of that stuff out
to the forefront and a bunch of educational programs and
run some special We'll do some little tournaments again, stuff

(36:18):
like that. I want to keep what we do interesting
and fun and and that's kind of what my goal
is as I get into my my next years. I'm
back full time and I'm feeling really good about it.
I'm loving it so great. Great Benny Elfish this week. Bro,
you guys got it. We got Look, it's kind of crazy.
You're looking sailfish tam here every day and nobody's out

(36:38):
there fishing for them. Yeah, so yeah, it's kind of neat,
and it's kind of neat.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
I was gonna ask our co host this morning with
the most year many ever fish on a headboat or
part of boats, But growing up as a kid, yeah,
that was pretty much the only boats I'd go on.

Speaker 5 (36:51):
There's a lot of boats around Fort Lauderdale, Pompino Beach
that I used to fish on, and like he said,
bottom fishing is just no, there's an art to it,
you know. It's one of the first methods of fishing
you usually learn as a fisherman. Like you said, anyone
can put a live bait on a hook and pray
and hope it gets.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
Eaten, you know.

Speaker 5 (37:07):
But when it comes to the bottom fishing, you got
to be spot specific. You're not just drifting on the edge.
There's a lot of different techniques. People think you just
put a chunk of bait on a hook, send it down,
you're going to get bit. But no, there's there's an
art to it. Your bait has to be presented the
right way. It can't be down there spinning. They want
to see certain baits fluttering. So it's a that's why.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
We have a captain.

Speaker 16 (37:25):
It could be as well, Benny, it could be over
analyzed as well. You know. To me, it's like I've
had I actually had Bouncer one time years ago. Say
he got it one on my mates. He says, Waite,
why didn't you teach this guy this, this, this, and this.
I said, Bouncer, I'll put what I can out and
I'm and I and I wait for feedback, and I

(37:46):
will teach to the level that I feel there's an
interest and and that's the best way I can put it.
I don't I don't like to waste my time with
someone who thinks he's got it all figured out. They
get their captain's license. You know, they see a few
gp S numbers, they catch a few fish, and all
of a sudden, they're all that. And you know that's truthfully,
the real skill involved does take time to learn, to

(38:07):
learn a lot of the nuances. Is it a big deal? Yeah,
it kind of is. You know, it's like an inshore fisherman. Man,
it's tides, it's bad, it's this. It's that you know,
you can apply a lot of that same stuff to
bottom fishing and other kinds of fishing in the ocean.
You know that it's a whole other world. Man, It's
a whole nother world. But meanwhile, let me tell you
the mangrove snappers are two in man. We'll be getting

(38:29):
a limit, like every night, quick, Captain David to go
out and you'll give them a choice if we get
the boat limit, which is I'm not a five per
person I don't do night fishing anymore. Man, that's way
out of my deal. So so, uh, it's hard to
stay up for me to stand up that lad. But
the mangro snapper fishing, you know, it is singularly one

(38:50):
of the best fisheries that's stuck around forever off Miami.
Commercial guys haven't figured out how to wipe them out,
and they seem to adjust to whatever water problems are
going on. This, that and the other. Man, he just
keeps spawning. I'll tell you another thing. It's got work.
You bear snappers around the last ten years that I've
seen in the previous forty they're in the inlets, they're

(39:11):
they're on the recks and uh, you know, you know,
maybe they're spawning more So, anyway.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
We could talk. Yes, when your clock is just.

Speaker 16 (39:22):
I'm off I reward fishing fleet. Hey, local price resident,
We have great resident prices. Please fishingmind me dot com
take a look, give us a call. Let's go fishing guys.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
All right, thank you Wayne very much, buddy, I appreciate it.

Speaker 16 (39:34):
Hey, nice meeting you, Betty.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
Nice nice report. Man. All right, so we're going down
under the water now, yeah.

Speaker 4 (39:43):
Rock.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
Rock Laperson Before your time.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
Too many got the show. It's because we have Jim Matthews.
Chiefly Jim Mathews are dive experts. Okay, with the chief group.
He's had a busy week and he goes down to
the see brags on Facebook catching nine million lobsters every
time he goes down, Betty, and he's just insane. Occasionally
give Joeli a bag maybe every three years.

Speaker 16 (40:09):
We're lucky.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
But anyway, Jim Mathey, what's up, buddy.

Speaker 24 (40:16):
Uh yeah, it's been a busy couple of weeks there,
It really was.

Speaker 18 (40:21):
You know, I told you last week.

Speaker 24 (40:22):
I mean we we definitely had a great mini season
Wednesday Thursday of last week. And you know we're allowed
twelve per person instead of the normal six, and we
took full advantage of that.

Speaker 18 (40:36):
And Andy and I had.

Speaker 24 (40:38):
An extra lobster each per day because of our coin
that we got from f w C from harvesting twenty five.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
We're getting tired of hearing about this coin.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
Thank you, Okay, all right, all right, we'll be coin.
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (40:55):
You have it and we can't get.

Speaker 18 (40:57):
It with the coin you got. Yeah, well you can
still get it.

Speaker 4 (41:02):
It just doesn't mean anything.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Thank you, Jim. Thank you Steve O for that one.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
Hey, real quick, Jim Matthew, Betty Skok and Betty skull
at Jim Matthew, you guys anymore?

Speaker 2 (41:13):
Good morning. How's it going man?

Speaker 18 (41:15):
Good morning, Good morning, Good good. I blow bubbles, buddy,
That's that's what I do.

Speaker 24 (41:20):
Yeah, But anyway, we're now back to our regular August sixth.
We compete now with the you know, the commercial guys.
And we always saw like one guy out there that
in the last week or so putting his traps. We
get a guy, uh because I primarily do a lot
of them by the sea for Laadale, Papao and occasionally

(41:42):
up into Boca del Ray. But the guy from Boyinton,
he runs traps out and he was putting his traps out,
but he was putting him out deep, which is kind
of interesting. I still think. Then we got lobsters out
there that are kind of making their way in everything
including and this is the this is the tip.

Speaker 18 (42:02):
This is why you have me on the show.

Speaker 7 (42:04):
Eric.

Speaker 24 (42:05):
The tip is there's no like clusters of lobsters.

Speaker 18 (42:09):
We didn't find any honey holes here. It was one
one one one one.

Speaker 7 (42:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 18 (42:17):
Well, we had to work hard.

Speaker 24 (42:18):
We don't work hard and a lot of eggers, A
lot of eggers.

Speaker 18 (42:22):
I mean yes.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
Let me ask my host this morning guest co host Benny.

Speaker 5 (42:25):
You ever dive your diver? Yeah, I dude, spend some
time in the water. My ears right now in as
good as they were, you know, in my younger days.
But I still do some free diving and bimeny. Over there,
we're allowed to shoot the lobsters. So you've got a
lot of spots in like five to seven to twelve
feet of water where I could still get down and
manage that.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
You strap out a tank too or just free.

Speaker 5 (42:44):
Now you're not allowed to kill anything on there in Bimy,
So you got told locally here the most I've done
to the third lungs hookahs systems.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
I love the hookahs.

Speaker 4 (42:54):
But by the way, Benny bets something that's kind of negative.
The Bahamas. Have you guys do what they're charging to
go over there.

Speaker 2 (43:00):
Now. I've seen in the news it's getting pretty ready.

Speaker 4 (43:03):
It's like seven hundred eight hundred bucks.

Speaker 2 (43:05):
It's over eight hundred for a boat like mine.

Speaker 18 (43:09):
I think the shift is going on, buddy.

Speaker 24 (43:11):
They they really don't want us over there for fishing
and diving and taking their resources.

Speaker 18 (43:17):
And listen, they're making.

Speaker 24 (43:18):
A killing with all the gambling that's going on over there.
Right remember Biviiti before there was you know, gambling.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
Ye before the casino.

Speaker 24 (43:27):
There's nothing going on before the casino. It was different
islands exactly. So a lot of different you know that's
going on.

Speaker 18 (43:34):
But that's okay.

Speaker 24 (43:35):
Listen, the world evolves, that's what you know. And you know,
you just go to different places, that's all. I got
a bunch of.

Speaker 18 (43:41):
Guys down in Key West and the tour two gus
this week. But you know the best part so far.

Speaker 24 (43:48):
You ready, Eric, I was gonna ask, I'm leading, I'm leading,
go ahead, a twenty five inch hogfish and and so
we're seeing some big hogfish.

Speaker 18 (44:02):
Man, I passed up on one. You know. The problem
is you sphere a hawkfish.

Speaker 24 (44:07):
And they're not they know, don't measure up and it's
hard to patch.

Speaker 18 (44:11):
That hole up.

Speaker 24 (44:12):
And you know, so I really unless it's a wow hogfish.
If I if I'm in doubt, I don't spirit. That's
that's my motto. Well, I you know the problem is
is when you see the big one, you go wow,
oh my lord.

Speaker 18 (44:25):
I guess I should.

Speaker 5 (44:26):
Spirit and the water looks like a magnifying glass. Everything looks.

Speaker 18 (44:33):
I could not believe it.

Speaker 24 (44:34):
I passed up on it and I'm still having nightmares
about it.

Speaker 18 (44:38):
Holy crap.

Speaker 3 (44:39):
So one didn't have a spirit of the brain hole.
Gym Wow, I'm trying to hear that exactly.

Speaker 4 (44:44):
I wanted to ask Chief, Chief. I want to ask
you a serious question here. For the last year, every show,
Eric has been, you know, shooting through the brain hole,
shoot him through the rain. So when you're about to
get that, when you get about to get that grouper,
do you ever hear in your in your your your
brain right before you're getting ready to do it, do
you ever hear like Eric.

Speaker 18 (45:05):
In the brain hole?

Speaker 2 (45:06):
Don't do it? GeV.

Speaker 18 (45:08):
You know I do.

Speaker 24 (45:09):
But as I tell I, reckon, I'm not that good.
In other words, you gotta you know, you got a
grouper and the.

Speaker 18 (45:15):
Minimum size is twenty four inches. So listen, you shoot
them wherever you can.

Speaker 2 (45:20):
Now, would you like we should have a brain hole?

Speaker 3 (45:23):
Don't listen, listen to Steven's voice. Okay, your head, okay,
don't shoot with the brain hole, sim okay.

Speaker 2 (45:29):
Please.

Speaker 18 (45:30):
The good news is listen. The good news is we
can hunt.

Speaker 24 (45:34):
So it's lobster, hogfish, grouper, mutton, snapper, hog snapper, you know, hogfish.

Speaker 18 (45:42):
We got it all buddy.

Speaker 24 (45:43):
We're life is good down there, and it's not bad
at eighty five eighty six degrees. The currents was strong yesterday.
I don't know what the heck was going on, but
all good. I was out with my buddy Marshall who
owns my marina, and it was good. We had a
great time, enjoyed it. You know what, it's not a

(46:04):
bad day. It's not a bad day to take.

Speaker 3 (46:07):
That last carbon monoxide. We gotta go, buddy, Okay, t
nights Trocks.

Speaker 18 (46:15):
Thank you, Jim, all right, take care having fun.

Speaker 2 (46:18):
Bye.

Speaker 3 (46:18):
So on the program, we have a starbright bucket, Benny,
which I think you actually picked one up a Dogical Ventures,
did you know.

Speaker 2 (46:23):
Yeah, yeah, there was a good Actually Charles Dean won
it last time, right, yeah, your buddy Charles Dean. So
you've used the product right before? Oh yeah, and how
do you like it?

Speaker 5 (46:30):
I mean I used that stuff often, man, everything from
the whole side cleaner, the rustin remover. I mean literally,
you could have a yellow scum built up on the
side of your your whole from sitting in the water
too long. Yep, you spray that stuff all along the
side of the boat. It starts dripping down. As you
see it dripping down, you see the scum just disappearing.
You know, if you want to give it a little wipe,
wash it down, it's it works wonder the same with

(46:52):
the rustin remover. You love rust on the boat. Spray
it on the rust man even.

Speaker 4 (46:57):
Removes those yellow scum tourists from the area two.

Speaker 2 (47:00):
That's wonderful. Multipurpose making's to scume off of the boat.
I give.

Speaker 3 (47:05):
It's good for your CV, It's good enough for me,
you know what I'm saying. So it's a random number caller.
I want you to pick one but one to ten. Benny,
pick your favorite number, just ten, man, my.

Speaker 5 (47:14):

I'll go seven number seven, lucky seven, lucky number.

You're on board the Nautical Ventures Weekly Fisherman show powered
by Mercury Marine. Go Boldly with legendary fisherman Eric Brandon,
an extreme anglar, Joe Hector.

Speaker 2 (51:53):
Well ex straight mangler.

Speaker 3 (51:54):
Joe Hecker's on the beach of Papula right now, trying
to launch his guys off with the fcat Big Finale
number two, the Saltwater Slammerony going on makes some good
paydays after Donical Ventures kicks in a bunch of change
for this thing to pay the winners on their deal
to get kayaks as well, which is great you have.
Now there's nobody who Sean Rolls. I don't think he's
on the phone because he's launched off the beach. I've

(52:17):
got a little word by reaching Sean. Let me see
if I got a note here from Jeff whether he's
on blide one.

Speaker 2 (52:23):
Uh no, Sean yet. So they're launched off.

Speaker 3 (52:26):
I guess Joe got these guys off this morning on time,
despite the fact the weather looks kind of sketchy. We
checked the radar and it's pretty dog gone. Big goes
like Paul beach down to the keys.

Speaker 2 (52:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (52:38):
Well, like we said, I mean, they call it extreme
kayak fishing for a reason. If anyone's gonna launch off
the beach, if anyone's gonna get the okay to go,
Sean's gonna be the first one out there, because we
know he's coming back looking forward to casting a big
check today.

Speaker 4 (52:50):
The good news is right now it's showing light rain
to modern rain, and then thunderstorms are not in their
immediate area for now.

Speaker 3 (52:58):
I guess you'll issue Steve, and I bet it would
be if there's lightning, they may actually call it or
postponing it whatever later.

Speaker 4 (53:05):
Not for the money they're throwing down, those guys will.

Speaker 2 (53:07):
Be out there.

Speaker 5 (53:08):
They ever stopped paying lightning again, they stopped during a
lightning storm or not. I mean, I'm not sure about
that one. I would think so. I know most of
the kayakers get a little weary and don't even leave
the beach in situations like this, But today's a different situation.
We got guys that came all over the world. There's
a lot on the line. I mean, these guys are
trying to qualify for bigger things. There's a lot of
money to be won. Someone's gonna win that money and
qualify for that spot either way, whether they're you know,

(53:30):
whether it's raining or not.

Speaker 3 (53:32):
The beach down for Hawaii. Yeah yeah, shotgup, bro. They
got the guys whom O wahoo came over here, man,
about fifteen of them. I was there for two years
in the military in o' wahoo. It's never been on
the armor over there. And I was talking one of
our guests before, guy named David, who's fish in that tournament,
what my life was like as they called me a

(53:53):
Howey over there, A white guy, a cracker guy like
me is called a Howey and they didn't like us
too much. And a lot of guys have the rashes.
Kick Okay, I managed to avoid that.

Speaker 2 (54:03):
Bye.

Speaker 3 (54:04):
It's a fast talking just so you know, talking about
way out of it. But anyway, throw over here in
mass So you fishes, say, tell us what it's like
to experience one of these tournaments, you know, I mean
you launch off the beach.

Speaker 2 (54:15):
You don't want to hear you're going how they planned
your day.

Speaker 5 (54:18):
So there's I mean, you can't plan it. You can't
plan mother nature. There's definitely a lot involved. Like I said, earlier.
I give these guys a lot of credit from you know,
having to lug their kayaks to their house, onto their truck,
down to the beach, off the beach, setting up all
your gear. It's just a mission. I mean, you go
out in the ocean. You might think there's north current.
You start paddling to the south. Before you know it,

(54:38):
you realize, oh, there's south current. I'm ripping south. There's
just a lot of obstacles, you know. There's when you're
in a boat, you got everything right there in your hands.
You got all the different types of tackle, you can
rereg everything easily. If there's no fish in a certain area,
you could zip up or down the coast on a kayak.
It's like everyone's fishing those maybe two square mile area.

(54:58):
You're limited to what you got going on. I mean,
when you're out there, you're your own captain, you're the mate,
you're the gaff man, You're responsible for everything, so you
can't blame somebody.

Speaker 2 (55:08):
It's all on you.

Speaker 5 (55:09):
And that was a big part of why I got
into it too. It was like we were always fishing tournaments,
a lot of my buddies trying to drag them out
for the tournaments. Then you start seeing the kayak tournaments
where it's like, all right, I could go out there
by myself. I don't need to depend on other people. Yeah,
and uh, did you ever hook up after during juste tournament?
Do you ever grab a semi winning fish?

Speaker 2 (55:27):
Are close?

Speaker 7 (55:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (55:28):
Yeah? I have won one of Joe's tournaments right way
A wait, man, he won one? Talking about that as
a winner? Man, you won one, dude?

Speaker 5 (55:36):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I've won after honesty here, I've
ranked high in a lot of Joe's tournaments, you know,
top three, top five finishes always made the stage. I
had a streak where I think six out of seven
tournaments I ranked in. But the highlight of my kayak
fishing career was the two thousand and seventeen Sailfish SmackDown. Okay,
I caught four sailfish on a kayak. What the record

(55:59):
at the time was two, so we doubled the record there.
And yeah, it was pretty exciting, man. I remember one
of themself has dragged me from right outside Pompano Beach
all the way almost to the Deerfield Beach pier. And
if you don't make it back to the beach on
time and Pompano. You're disqualified. So it was a little encouraging.
Being all the way in Deerfield. I paddled into about

(56:19):
thirty feet of water, kind of broke out all the
food I had on the kayak and just started eating
to retain the energy that I was burning paddling south exactly.
And you know, it's one of those things you got
to make sure again you're the captain of your kayaks.
So if you're not back on time, that's on you.
If you're not back on the beach and you get disqualified,
you're the only one to blame, you know.

Speaker 3 (56:39):
Well, it's take a little little interruption break here. You
shed number seven of the starwbry bucket number six. We
have Lucky seven on the phone right now. Name I
don't recognize, Alexi Soured is a personal.

Speaker 2 (56:50):
Friend of yours.

Speaker 5 (56:51):
Yeah, I know, Alexi. See my haircut I got right here.
Go check them out in both an inside job.

Speaker 31 (56:56):
Now we.

Speaker 2 (56:58):
Alexi, your hairdresser's winning. Hey, let's check it. Baby.

Speaker 5 (57:01):
He doesn't always tune in, but he knew I was
on today, tuned in and he's Lucky number seven rolling
the dice.

Speaker 2 (57:06):
Baby, Good morning man, what's up buddy?

Speaker 32 (57:09):
Good morning, Good morning.

Speaker 4 (57:11):
Your phone connection he lets me speak close to that phone, please,
is not unclear so we can hear you.

Speaker 3 (57:16):
Yeah, let's see there, buddy. No, it's Jeff Warmer. Your
phone connection is kind of shady. But anyway, you've got
a strung right bucket there you go.

Speaker 2 (57:26):
My poe's all wet.

Speaker 7 (57:27):
I was going fishing. Then it dorman over here and grain.

Speaker 2 (57:30):
And all your phones.

Speaker 3 (57:31):
Well, okay, wayway, you got a bucket full of wash
and wax and deck later and you name it. Benny's
described before he gets it's just amazing products.

Speaker 2 (57:39):
Do you have a boat?

Speaker 16 (57:41):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (57:42):
What do you have a bout? You guys?

Speaker 7 (57:45):
I had got thirty.

Speaker 2 (57:47):
Thirty foot intrepid. Yeah, I've been over to Bemini on
his boat with him before. Nice.

Speaker 5 (57:51):
You know, all your buddies just like a little buddy
thing going on here, Benny, come on, man, So about
that whole side cleanery.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
I went in on that bucket he's got and wax
and dach flatter or whatever else. So Alexi uh, Now
is he a hairdresser? What's this deal here?

Speaker 5 (58:06):
You could call him a hairdresser or a barber. You know,
he kind of goes both ways. In the hairdressing industry. Dude,
let me turn turn your head back relevant. Hey, Alexia,
can he get his money back?

Speaker 10 (58:17):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (58:18):
Well, no, Alexi's gotta be doing pretty good if he's
got a thirty two foot intreupid ara.

Speaker 3 (58:21):
I'm saying right, yeah, he's definitely cutting some serious hair man.
But anyway, I'll car to the show. Alexi, tell you
to pick up your bucket. It's really great, It'll look
great and you're intrepid. It's just amazing products from American
Maid by the way, from Starbright. Great friends, and thanks
for me the fan of the show. Appreciate it.

Speaker 33 (58:36):
Wow, awesome man, thank you guys today.

Speaker 2 (58:39):
Man. Good look. So Alexi is your your guy who
does the hair right?

Speaker 4 (58:43):
By the way, I want to ask later on Eric
a question and just throw it out there so you
can think about it. To Benny, what is the craziest
s that has ever happened on one of your fishing missions?
And by the way, for those who don't know Bennie,
besides doing his own fishing boat, he also oversees other
people as well. So I want to hear from you

(59:04):

on one of your fishing missions.

Speaker 2 (59:09):
Okay, Betty's got a story that's gonna lett show man.

All right, think about that.

Speaker 3 (59:16):

slow down on Sundays now. But yeah, going as the Jets,
I mean you see the gray hair here. I mean
it's part of being a Jet fan.

Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
A Jet fan. I never asked you that question, so
it made you a Jet fan, dude.

Speaker 5 (01:04:13):
So, growing up, I was born in New York. My
mom's side, my uncle on my mom's side used to
dress me in Giants gear. My dad growing up had
Jet season tickets. So as I reached a certain age,
I had to pick a team. You know, I couldn't
be a Jet and a Giant fan, which you know
I'll still support the Giants, but yeah, lean lean towards
the green side and you know stressful, right.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
So we have a sham that it called the miney
dolphins you see you know you ever look them up
at all?

Speaker 5 (01:04:37):
Yeah, And if I was a Giants fan, I wouldn't
have to take so much bs from all the dolphin
fans down here, So I should have went the other way.

Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
Maybe.

Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Well, you know, Steve would a great travels with the team.
He's their audio guy, so he's a definitely dolphin homer.
You can don't don't piss him off about that guy.

Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
He said he's gonna bring me to an away game
this year. Bring you an away game.

Speaker 4 (01:04:54):
Yeah, I'm gonna take you away.

Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
All right, let's get on the fishing tos. We would
actually officially asked you how your week was. I bet
he's fishing charter, So what'ch you, guys? Schnegger a week?

Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
So, yeah, it's been a productive week. I mean, the
moon getting bigger this week.

Speaker 5 (01:05:09):
Those few days before the full moon are always productive
for wahoo and they were very productive. Captain Tyler, running
one of my boats, had a trip where he got
like six kings, two wahoos, a bunch of other fish,
bunch of benitas, barracudas, I think, a little black fin.
So it's been very productive all around. But the wahoos
were the hot topic coming off, you know, coming up
to the full moon. The King's been so plentiful, it's

(01:05:31):
almost just been kind of something to do.

Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
Some trips.

Speaker 5 (01:05:34):
We'd get our limited kings if we only got two
people on the boat, might get our limited kings in
the first hour. And now we make them feel good
that they got their limit of something and venture off
and try to find something else.

Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
Mahi.

Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
You know, like Jimbo was saying earlier, they're out there,
they're scattered, they're hit or miss. There's a lot of
small ones. It's a grind to find them, having so
many weeds around. So, you know, it's been a productive week.
But I feel like yesterday was the day where everything
kind of slowed down, where you know, hopefully it's still
a little productive for the tournament. Guys out there off
pomping O today, all the speed bump kayakers out they.

Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
Well hopefull well, I actually know what with this weather
like this big overcast, the black fin tuitas will definitely
not be a problem as far as the sunshine and
their eyeballs.

Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
They like this overcast stuff.

Speaker 7 (01:06:16):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Yeah, I always say black fins like low light visibility. Yep.
You know, obviously we we go off patterns here, So
it's a pattern.

Speaker 5 (01:06:23):
If you're out there early enough in the morning, you
get that line up early in the morning, that first
light is we're usually get a good tuna bite, you know,
especially in the springtime. But uh yeah, the tunas seem
to be a little tougher during the day, especially this
time of the year when it gets bright out, when
it gets really hot. You know, even if you find them,
they're down deep one hundred and twenty hundred and sixty
hundred and.

Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
Eighty feet below the surface.

Speaker 5 (01:06:43):
Gotcha, So a lot of the trolling guys ain't gonna
pick as many off if they're trolling baits all on
the surface. You got to get your baits down deep
pretty much for anything this time of the year. Whenever
that water temperature starts climbing up, getting close to ninety one.

Speaker 4 (01:06:55):
Threes penny guys, Oh sorry, those guys are in strong moderate,
too strong rain right now. How does that affect a
fishing for the tournament?

Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Who's in what range?

Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
The Joe's people of the tournament people are on strong
to moderate rain right now, but it's just just pounding
them right now.

Speaker 5 (01:07:10):
So yeah, I mean it makes it tough to fish.
It makes it very uncomfortable being on a kayak. Your
visibility isn't great, so you're kind of sketched out about
boats not seeing you running up the coast, so you
kind of it's hard to focus on fishing when you
know you're you're out of your element. You know, when
it's a nice clear day and it's not rain and
you can focus on fishing, boats see you, you see them.

(01:07:31):
You know, I've been out there where it's almost blacked
out rain and you don't see nothing, and all of
a sudden a boat appears thirty feet away from you,
that's running by you. So you know, and as far
as the bike goes with the rain, I mean, I
always say the fish are always wet, they don't care.
But a lot of times these storms get incorporated with
pressure changes. Those pressure changes, you'll feel the you know,

(01:07:51):
the weather cool up, cool down, or heat up. Sometimes
those things are going to be what can turn on
or off the bike a lot of times before the
rain comes.

Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
You know, we got two minutes. STEVEO asked him that
magic question you wanted to throw out of earlier.

Speaker 4 (01:08:05):
Go ahead, Benny, you you are the captain of captains,
and you also run other boats as well. You've been
in the business for how many years, sir man?

Speaker 5 (01:08:15):
I've been in the business since I was in school
high school, you know, working as mates on boats and stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:08:19):
So what what is the craziest s that has ever
happened on one of Benny's charters, whether it be you
or one of your awesome captains.

Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
Man, man, a bunch of the men.

Speaker 5 (01:08:31):
Not talking about fish, just like something crazy happening on
the boat or someone else.

Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
Whatever different things.

Speaker 4 (01:08:40):
Man is Come on, is it something involving women? Come on, man,
the old stuff.

Speaker 5 (01:08:44):
I've had some clients hold me against my will and
make me come visit them back on my boat and
all that clients. I've had clients purposely leave things on
my boat. They call me and make me meet them
later on. That's what was her name? No, I mean
you guys fall off your boat, or I mean I

(01:09:04):
have had a girl fall off the boat. She was
kind of sun slicked out in her oil, laying on
the front of the bow. And you know, I told
her when we were trolling, I said, you can't lay
up there, you know, if you fall off. I'm gonna
run you over. You know you're at the front, you're
going right to I'm running you over. So we got
on a drift. She got comfortable up there, waves started

(01:09:25):
rocking a little bit, and it was like the suntan
lotion just slipped her right off, and this girl was underwater.
She comes up and you see her face pop up
with her makeup just dripping off her face from the
night before. But the prop shouldn't get her right. No,
we were drifting at that point. I wouldn't let her
sit up there she was. It was actually some uh,
some guys were coming on the boat and there was
only supposed to be two people on the on the listing.

(01:09:45):
On the booking it said two people. And they showed
up with the girl and I was like, where'd you
find her? They said, Oh, she was our bartender last night.
You told her come on, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
Meanwhile, we didn't leave the bar till one in the morning.

Speaker 5 (01:09:56):
We didn't think she was going to show up. Sure enough,
five in the morning, she was ready to go. The
photo on Facebook lash out of you with a love
of ladies on the bow of a boat.

Speaker 4 (01:10:03):
Oh, let me find that.

Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
I should tell you. Steve what's on your Oh I know,
I know I'm going to find it, but uh, what
was that all about? I mean, we have about a
minute here for the break here. So, so I got
a buddy, Antonio.

Speaker 5 (01:10:13):
He lives actually right around us here in Hollywood, and uh,
I always call the doseqis guy. He's like the world's
most interesting man. Yeah, you always see put pictures on
his social media. He's on a boat with like twenty women,
all pachus up.

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
So uh.

Speaker 5 (01:10:25):
So he called me yesterday said, hey, man, I got
some friends that want to fish. It's like, oh, you
got some friends that want to fish, all even going
to break out their wallets.

Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
I do fishing chargers for a living, you know.

Speaker 5 (01:10:33):
Then he started sending me pictures of his friends. I said, oh,
you know what, yeah, bring them out. We'll go out
for a couple hours.

Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
And I went out.

Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
Oh they charged you, Yeah, they charged us by the end.

Speaker 16 (01:10:41):
Of the day.

Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
Yeah, were they actually fishing or just getting some sun
or what? We were technically fishing? But no, we didn't
catch anything. So really yeah, well, I mean that's it's
photos right now on a Facebook live stream. You look
like it look like pimp daddy man, like you had
to pimping, bro. You know what I mean. I give
all the credit to Antonio on that. You'll pimp in
your thing right there? Well you notice what's in my

(01:11:02):
hand there. They had like a little sex whip on
the boat. They were whipping me.

Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
All right, let's be careful how much information, see why?
But I do love it, bag, That's why where my
brains at Bettie's.

Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
I love it, man. But anyway, fun time on the boat.
So I'm sure with seeve asked that question.

Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
There's so many crazy one which after the show you're like,
I wishould have thought about that one, that one, or
that one gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
You had a whole bachelor. I couldn't even think of
anything in the moment.

Speaker 3 (01:11:24):
All right, man, we'll take a little breaker on of
this ready Saturday morning and come back. We'll talk with
our good friend Vinnie Sacks.

Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
You know very well.

Speaker 3 (01:11:30):
Have Vinnie right, one of the best, and Jen with
forecast a sour we have Skip Bray, Dan and the Keys,
wrap it up with the toy chest and one more.

Speaker 5 (01:11:37):

this before ever on the show. Or do you have

Speaker 5 (01:16:11):
Again, Man, you have brought it Straw. You've been great, Brom.
Happy to be here today. Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
You're actually doing a lot better than me.

Speaker 3 (01:16:17):
I don't word of my job, he's true, but anyway,
good to have you the show man anytime.

Speaker 2 (01:16:21):
So you know Vinnie Shacks Funny Chance. Yeah, Vinnie Man.

Speaker 5 (01:16:23):
He's one of the most reputable best fishing boats in
Fort Lauderdale.

Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
He's been there for years. He can't miss his boat.

Speaker 5 (01:16:30):
See it a mile away Green machine mane Man. Yeah,
the y B normal, YB normal. Whatever fish are out there,
he's catching the man. He's matching the hatch for whatever's
going on. You know, it's whether it's bottom fishing, deep
drop in pelagics.

Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
He's on the man.

Speaker 5 (01:16:44):
He's on the line. I want to bring him on, brother,
he's your man. Bring them on, Denny. What's up man,
how's it going?

Speaker 16 (01:16:50):
Hey?

Speaker 33 (01:16:50):
Good morning fellas you know.

Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
Vinnie, you have the happiest hello if anybody ever met.
It's almost like you, I'll put a gaff.

Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
In your life. He sounds fired up.

Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
No, he gets going as the show rolls off, but
he starts like kind of sedate and then moves on
with a big juicy news man. All right, so I
saw you this week. Vinny posted some seriously great fish.
I think yesterday you got mahi like crazy, right.

Speaker 33 (01:17:14):
Yeah, yesterday we had an all day trip went out
there looking for the mahi. They definitely were out there.

Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
That photo of the dock where you lay him out
of it, Ben, you had like nice look ad fish everywhere.

Speaker 2 (01:17:26):
So he's got those mahi out there. Had you manage
to do that with all that sarcasm? Weed? The way birds?

Speaker 6 (01:17:31):
What?

Speaker 33 (01:17:33):
There was an edge out there about like eight nine
miles and was going offshore towards the northeast and it
was just like a live weed line. Just one side
dirty water, the other side clean with lots of birds.
So you know, I always say, if you find the birds,
they usually don't lie, So that's definitely where the fish
are at.

Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
Yesterday I saw the vid you posted about that too.

Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
The birds are working. I'm thinking the bird is a
word video. I mean, you see birds and at Benny,
you know that's that's that's gold Man, right, Yep, that's
what you're looking for when you're out there this time
of the year.

Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
Super stuff man. So what else should be catching this week?
Wilson happened?

Speaker 33 (01:18:12):
The reef's been pretty good trolling. Lots of benitas right now.
It's pretty insane some days. A couple of kingfish here
and there. The water has been super blue, so they're
not really around like they normally are. Handful of whiters
this week. I didn't get lucky enough to get one,
but some of the other charter guys in my area
they caught a few. And bottom fishing has been good.

(01:18:35):
We've had light currents, so I've been catching some really
nice vermillion snappers, a couple of red groupers, so overall
it's been pretty steady.

Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
Are you guys heading out miss schlocky weather, Vinnie or
you staying on land today?

Speaker 33 (01:18:48):
We're supposed to, but we're kind of on like a
rain delay right now. Supposed to leave at seven, but
we were gonna give it an hour. And see, I
looked at the radar. Doesn't look very promising.

Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
But you ever know, oh, Benny, would you be going
out with your clients on a day like today? Matter
or what? Buddy? I got to be a little more
flexible than Vinnie is.

Speaker 5 (01:19:07):
I got a center console, smaller boat, not as comfortable,
nowhere for them to hide from the weather. So I'm,
you know, a little more flexible. But yeah, my boat's
heading out right now. My captain just texts me. The
customers are there. They paid no head it out.

Speaker 3 (01:19:18):
So if the clients say to you or to Javinny,
you know, hey, guys, I'm not too happy with.

Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
This weather, they get like a refund or a rain
check for another day.

Speaker 5 (01:19:28):
I mean, most guys in the business are gonna tell
you no. You know, some guys don't even tell the
customers the weather's bad. They drag them out there, hope
they get seasick, take their money, bring them back in,
and the day's done.

Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
They're good.

Speaker 5 (01:19:40):
Don't say that, Ben, Unfortunately, that's why guys like me
are it. But to get ahead in the game, we
treat customers a little better. We're a little more mean.

Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
They like that, you know, Yeah, you don't just take
them and beat them up and make him pew. Right, Bennie,
what about you man? If it's clients to head to
your boat, say, I'm a little sketchy with this weather.

Speaker 2 (01:19:58):
Could we postpon it? Would you ever combedy thing like that?

Speaker 33 (01:20:02):
We try to, but you know, like Benny said, we
got a little bit bigger of a boat. So you know,
if it's three to four foot out there, we're still
planning on going.

Speaker 16 (01:20:11):
It just all depends, you know.

Speaker 33 (01:20:13):
If you have a bunch of little kids show up,
I don't really want to take him out of that.
But if it's you know, five or six adult men,
you know, I don't care what your excuse is.

Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
We're gone, right, that's right.

Speaker 3 (01:20:23):
If the guys rod the boat man no shoes, now,
both you guys, they get out there, they start getting seasick. Right,
do you guys ever come back and bring them in
because you're puke and every wordy and just say listen,
go over the side of the boat, heave your breakfast
and suck it up and fish.

Speaker 5 (01:20:39):
I always say there's two types of groups that show up.
You get the group of five guys, one of them
gets seasick. He has to sit there in the fetal
position for six hours, and the guys are kicking them, saying, haha,
more fish for us. Then you get another group five guys,
maybe dressed a little different, and one guy gets seasick and.

Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
They say, excuse me, Captain Benny, our friend's not feeling well.
Do you mind bringing us in. D we just got
out here. You're getting a refund. Oh, don't worry, no,
no big deal.

Speaker 4 (01:21:04):
Wow you said they're dressed differently. Where what's the angle
on that, Benny?

Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
Yeah, I think the speedo's baby Vinnie. Guys get stick
on your boat, they suck it up, or you stay out.

Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
There, you bring them in. Man.

Speaker 33 (01:21:17):
Ultimately, it's your trip, so if you want to call it,
that's up to you. But you don't get your money back.
You know, you can't see half the movie and not
like it and then say I want a refund.

Speaker 2 (01:21:26):
So that's a great point. Yeah, no refunds, man.

Speaker 4 (01:21:28):
I think that's very fair. I mean, these guys take
set up their boat, fuel it up. They're they're taking
the time, and they're canceling another or another person that
could have been on that boat. So yeah, they deserve
their money.

Speaker 5 (01:21:38):
Our calendar has been blacked out for them for that day,
for that spot since they booked that trip.

Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
That's how you pay your bills, my friend. Exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:21:45):
So Vinnie up in your area, man, Now Joe's got
his tournament Popolo Beach. What do you think the hot
bite might be today? We just got of weather.

Speaker 7 (01:21:54):
Uh.

Speaker 33 (01:21:55):
Usually when it's raining like this, there's a good amount
of black tin tunas. I don't know about going in
a kayak today. It looks a little bit choppy, but
to each their own, right, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
That's true. Man.

Speaker 3 (01:22:07):
They also paid big bucks to be here. They're not
going to cancel that deal. But I Vinnie have very
cool man. I'm glad you have a great operation going on.

Speaker 31 (01:22:15):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:22:15):
You treat your clients right. You catch a fish every
trip you go on, which is just banging great on
the fishing. You again, what's the best way to contact
you get on board?

Speaker 33 (01:22:23):
You can give us a call directly at nine five.

Speaker 16 (01:22:28):
Hundred.

Speaker 33 (01:22:28):
Even much stuff on social media hYP normal sport fishing.

Speaker 3 (01:22:32):
Well, Vinnie and Bennie your two buddzer man kicking butt
taking names.

Speaker 2 (01:22:36):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:22:36):
Bennie knows before tournaments. I always text him to figure
out what's going on in Fort Lauderdale. I'll be in touch.

Speaker 3 (01:22:41):
Very cool, Helly, thanks much, man, We'll see you soon. Man, Okay,
appreciate it.

Speaker 33 (01:22:45):
All right, all right, you guys take care, all.

Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
Right, timer, our good friend Johnny stop Bill. You know
Johnny at all, Johnny Jacks, Johnny each stabill.

Speaker 6 (01:22:55):
Here's Johnny.

Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
Johnny's are expert on tarpet fishing and and uh, back
country but primarily fresh water bass and assassin is what
he really is. Johnny. Good on it to your buddy.
Good morning, Good morning, so Johnny, Benny, Benny, Johnny, how's
it called? Man? Nice to meet you.

Speaker 32 (01:23:15):
Likewise, how y'all doing. I'm just waking up. I had
a long day yesterday and uh, you know, a little
foggy this morning. But I'm actually up in Rhode Island.
But I do have a good report for you guys.
A lot of good uh, a lot of good fishing
didn't had this week, and apparently you know, if they

(01:23:36):
fish through some weather. But uh, I'll be back next week,
and you know, I'll be back in the game lake.
I'd still fishing the same as it was the last
two weeks even with a little bit of extra rain,
Plenty of peacocks to go around, plenty of clown knife
fish to go around, and you know that lake. The

(01:23:56):
more I talk to other guide buddies of mine, because
you know, for the most part, we all try to
get along. There's always that one miserable, old, grumpy guy
that decides to ruin it for the rest of us
out there. But aside from that, everybody gets along and
we all kind of share information. But we've all kind

(01:24:17):
of realized that there are a lot more snakeheads on
the lake, you know, than really ever before. For some reason,
there seems to just be a ton of snakeheads on
that lake lately, and that is definitely something that I
think adds value to that lake. A lot of people
hate them, you know, they get a really bad rap,

(01:24:38):
but they're an incredibly fun, hard fighting fish. They blow
up on top water. I mean, if you've never caught one,
you're really missing out. I can't really explain the difference.
It's not like bass fishing lake bass fishing. I see
all these Instagram reels and videos all the time time

(01:25:00):
where it's like bass fishing sucks. Saltwater fishing is life,
and I'm like, well, yeah, I mean it's a different thing,
but when you get into the game of snakehead fishing,
it's totally different. It's it's more like saltwater fishing, inshore
saltwater fishing than like any freshwater fishing you can ever experience.

(01:25:20):
So all that is becoming a really big thing onlike
guy to and the fishing is really good right now
this time of the year, you know, come in September,
it's our slowest time of the year down there, and
you can get on a really good bite and probably
even get a discount with a lot of guides that
offer you know, you know, a little you know, incentives

(01:25:41):
to books during the slow season of September. So that's
kind of the rundown for the lake.

Speaker 3 (01:25:47):
Well, Johnny, I'll tell you a story. I told you
about lures, be By lures and how expensive they are.
I found a couple of guys at eBay, Benny, and
I fell for it, Johnny. I went ahead and got
six live time target lures, roughly averaging about forty five
dollars a piece. Okay, so yeah, I dug in the
pocket and chilled out and got them.

Speaker 2 (01:26:11):
Live target. Well, and shown them out today. I think
they're paying you. No comment for Johnny, Johnny, everyone.

Speaker 32 (01:26:18):
Gets strung out every once in a while about something,
you know, Yeah, that just happens to be the thing
that you want, you know, you want. I spent a
lot of big money on bas fishing stuff. You know,
I spend pretty much my spring, you know, tournament bass fishing,
you know, just local tournaments, not anything big. But you

(01:26:39):
know we're spending a lot of money doing that too.
So if you're gonna spend forty five dollars on a lure,
I'm going to be the first person to say that
if you want to do that, by all means, go
and do it. I've spent way more money on gear
and tackle fish a bass tournament to come in ninth place.

Speaker 16 (01:26:56):
You know, YE got you.

Speaker 3 (01:26:58):
He also told me, Betty, you know, I ty various notch,
I tie loopknot I tell you, you know, fisherman's not
whatever else is going on, man, tie those suckers off
with cinch knots, you know, double cinch whatever else to
keep it locked on.

Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
And I said, okay, uh, I take his advice. See,
you know, I mean your favorite I said, don't use
this oh don't. That's why I tied him with the sinchnot.
You said, don't use the sinchknot. Oh man, don't.

Speaker 16 (01:27:27):
Oh yeah, I might have had.

Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
My second class on why when I was talking to you.
So my bad. But anyway, So you're Rhode Island. You're
coming back soon to Connunt and fishing to do your
thing or what?

Speaker 32 (01:27:39):
Yeah, you know, I've been striper fishing up here a
little bit. I had a few I don't know, I
I guess I had extra beer last night and I
was fishing off this dock and this fish came up
and blew up on top water and I just forgot
that I was fishing for a minute and forgot to
set the hook, and uh. And then that was the

(01:27:59):
only right I got that whole night. I'll be up
here for a little bit and then you know, I'll
get back to my regularly schedule programming.

Speaker 3 (01:28:09):
You got a question with the Captain Benny Shoot Johnny
real quick comes on the top of your mind.

Speaker 5 (01:28:14):
I mean, he started talking about snakehead fishing. I was
just kind of thinking about a few things with that
and saying how he really rather target the snakeheads than
the bass. Yeah, and I know it obviously as a fisherman,
we specifically target different species. But I was always I
always caught my biggest bass while I was snakehead fishing,
like dragging a frog. I feel like you weed out

(01:28:35):
some of those smaller bass or you always get a
bigger bass blowing.

Speaker 2 (01:28:38):
Up on the top water. Yeah, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:28:40):
So it's uh well for a guy who's ever caught
a snakehead. Yet, I'd be glad I wrote it into
a snakehead didn't have a problem like that. You I mean,
so I'm looking for my first one.

Speaker 2 (01:28:47):
I iced to date one. Show me a photo, all right, Johnny, listen, buddy,
I have a great trip and Rhode Island, get it.
I can see us real soon and get back and
do what you do best because you always bring it strong. Bro,
Thank you very much. Man, You're a man, dude.

Speaker 32 (01:29:01):
No worries, guys. I'll talk to you guys next week.

Speaker 2 (01:29:04):
Have a good one. Man saying you're tying, we're trying.
You're trying line to hooks or lures. What is your
not a choice? So when I'm tying two lines together,
I usually use a double uni. I'd like the union
a lot yeaheah, union not.

Speaker 5 (01:29:16):
If I'm going braid Tomno, I'll usually tie a bimini,
so I have a double line, okay, and then I
could either all bright.

Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
Or UNI to that. So it just depends on the application.

Speaker 5 (01:29:27):
What you're fishing for, how you're fishing, what your tackle is,
how your eyes are on your ride.

Speaker 2 (01:29:31):
How about line to hooks just a simple old jay
hook or circle hook. How you tie those things?

Speaker 5 (01:29:36):
Yeah, I mean I use a handful of nots with
those depends if I'm you know, kite fishing for sales.
Sometimes we use loop knots to do something different in
the mix. I don't use a loop not too often,
but you know, usually just these regular old fishermen's not.

Speaker 3 (01:29:50):
What's cool is the magic of YouTube is if you
want to learn how to tie ant these days, usually
you'd ask I got to show you. You can actually
watch these on video now they'll talk you right through it.
So there's no reason why you can't learn a knot.

Speaker 5 (01:30:01):
Now there's new knots with all these different names that
I never even heard of before.

Speaker 2 (01:30:05):
You ever heard of a knothead that I'd be your
buddy right here.

Speaker 3 (01:30:09):

Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:34:15):
She works with the Weather Channel. She's a globally known
on Mydad, She's on the Discovery Channel. Her name was
Jennifer Gray Warren. Good morning, Jennifer, nice to meet you, and.

Speaker 2 (01:34:24):
Jen good morning to you.

Speaker 35 (01:34:26):
Morning.

Speaker 3 (01:34:27):
So if you may not know or I probably do know,
sing the radar, we have got some rank rank rank
weather this morning, right in time for Joe's offshore Kayak tournament.

Speaker 2 (01:34:38):
What is up with your snot over here?

Speaker 35 (01:34:41):
Oh man, that would be the last, wouldn't it right.
There's eighty percent chance of storms today, as you already know,
Hi have eighty six southeast winds ten to fifteen sees
around two feet in her coastal waters a light chop.
Tomorrow eighty percent chance of showers and storm. Pioneer eighty
eight Keith and Duxas high is one O three southeast

(01:35:03):
winds five to ten sees around two feet air Coaster
water is a light chop in the Keys today, seventy
percent chance of showers and storms partly sunny. High in
air eighty eight southeast, the south winds tennot seas around
two feet near shore water is a light chop and
then star on the Keys, sixty percent chance of showers
and storms mostly sunny with the high near eighty nine

(01:35:24):
southeast south winds near ten knot seas around the foot
near shore water is the light chop and then a
Florida a today about the same southeast winds five to ten.
Baywater's light chop with storms tomorrow southeast the south winds
five to ten baywater smooth to the light chop with
numerous showers and storms.

Speaker 2 (01:35:44):
Lovely forecast. Thank you, thanks for bringing the sunshine. That's
just amazing. But it's not your fault. That's just the
way of weather is down here beg a lot of
questions for her, Yes.

Speaker 4 (01:35:53):
Se Bo, all right, Jen, And I don't know if
you've seen this, Eric and Benny, because I know you
guys are internet savvy as well. I've seen a disturbing
trend lately within the last week that I've never seen before,
and it's getting really really strong on the internet. I
see all these weather pages and people and AI forecast putting.
I see Benny nodding his head putting a possible hurricane

(01:36:16):
in South Florida the week of August eighteen, somewhere in
that area there. Jen, are you seeing any of this?
And what the hell is this? Is this fake stuff
or is this real? What's going on? Yeah?

Speaker 35 (01:36:28):
No, you can't trust computer models. After about day five
or six.

Speaker 33 (01:36:33):
It's what will happen is.

Speaker 35 (01:36:34):
They'll just start picking up on climate trends, and so
there's a million different things that can happen between now
and then.

Speaker 4 (01:36:42):
But do you see these trends, Jen, that these people
were posting and I've never seen this strong before.

Speaker 35 (01:36:49):
Yeah, but it's so irresponsible. People are posting them so
they can get clicks and views and that's the only reason,
and it's it's irresponsible, but there's really no way to
police it. And so what we just try to tell
people is trust the source that you're see that you
get your information from, because a lot of misinformation gave spread.

Speaker 4 (01:37:10):
I gotcha. Now, do you see anything that could be
coming this way?

Speaker 18 (01:37:14):
Or is that allfakenews dot com?

Speaker 35 (01:37:17):
I would never I don't think. I mean, right now,
there's nothing for you guys to worry about. There's nothing.
I mean, there's the what they're forecasting. These storms haven't
evenformed yet.

Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
Okay, does that make sense?

Speaker 35 (01:37:29):
There's no reason they haven't even formed off Africa yet?

Speaker 2 (01:37:32):
Makes perfect sense?

Speaker 5 (01:37:33):
Yes, Yeah, they're they're putting out a report that anything
that's over ten days away like that, Yeah, is not
It hasn't It hasn't even formed yet.

Speaker 2 (01:37:40):
It's not predictable. You can't predict that.

Speaker 5 (01:37:42):
It's like, you know, I see what you see, Stephen,
I see it on some of my apps where you
see a storm start to form. But like she said,
it's so irresponsible to share that because you know, as fishermen,
we follow the weather a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
So seeing these.

Speaker 5 (01:37:54):
Scenes ten days away, nine days away, eight days away,
seven days away, they're changing drastically every day.

Speaker 4 (01:38:00):
I agree, there's nothing consistent.

Speaker 5 (01:38:02):
Even three to five days away, we're not getting a
lot of consistency. So no reports, No one should be
sharing those, No one should be feeding me.

Speaker 3 (01:38:10):
I've never heard of weather report like this ever, which
sweet up. We have a three way discussion goal here, man,
it's pretty in depth here. I were really heavy doing
this stuff here today.

Speaker 35 (01:38:18):
You know, just a really big deal right now. And
it really is a big deal right now. And true
meteorologists are fighting it all the time because there's these
like Internet to other people that aren't even like true
weather meteorologists. They're just trying to scare.

Speaker 16 (01:38:33):
People, and I think they're doing a good job.

Speaker 35 (01:38:36):
If something, if something does hit Florida on the week
of August nineteenth, it is nothing but random that those
people were posting it. Does that make sense?

Speaker 36 (01:38:48):
I mean it does.

Speaker 35 (01:38:49):
It's not don't don't let don't listen to that and don't.

Speaker 33 (01:38:53):
Give them clicks.

Speaker 3 (01:38:54):
There you go, let's flip the switch for a second
destination dive on Discovery Channel.

Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
Jen has her first show debut.

Speaker 35 (01:39:02):
Already tomorrow morning.

Speaker 2 (01:39:06):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:39:07):
So, Benny, I'm being a big fan of her show.
I know exactly what day it's on, what hour runs, Okay,
I didn't miss it. And she goes on TV. She
goes to the Keys and does these these dive segments.
A lot of these things are actually about the environment,
you know what I mean? And had I had a
better clean erosion? So what's your first episode about Jen?

Speaker 35 (01:39:31):
Tomorrow morning? We're in Key Largo, so we'll visit a
couple of dive sites, a couple of reefs, and then
we talk about some of the corel restoration work that's
happening in the upper Keys.

Speaker 2 (01:39:41):
So I mean, are you a you've been a diver
for a long time, or is this some kind of
new for you.

Speaker 35 (01:39:47):
I started diving when I lived in Miami back in
like two thousand and of six is when I started diving.

Speaker 2 (01:39:56):
Okay, all right, very co S.

Speaker 3 (01:39:58):
You're enjoying the sports I'm imagining sooner or later, Cooper
Kat and they're gonna have a little whatsuit that Bob
and Crys will buy him.

Speaker 2 (01:40:04):
And then we be doing a whole diving thing, because
I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:40:06):
You take your family everywhere and your kids and everything
you do, so pretty soon we have divers in the
in the Gray family.

Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
I'm assuming.

Speaker 35 (01:40:12):
Yeah, they're always asking me how many more years it
is so they can scuba out?

Speaker 2 (01:40:17):
Oh how cool? Well, at least you give a massive
snorkel on it flop around.

Speaker 7 (01:40:21):
The pool that way, you know, I mean they do that, Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:40:24):
They do that already.

Speaker 35 (01:40:25):
But yeah, captain, tomorrow.

Speaker 36 (01:40:27):
Morning, very cool.

Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Tomorrow morning? At what time exactly? Again? Did you say?
I think it's eight eight o'clock on Discovery Channel that much?

Speaker 7 (01:40:36):
I do know.

Speaker 3 (01:40:36):
Yep, Thank you very much, Jen, you have had a
pleasure to spite their rank weather. Thanks for bringing us
strong every weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:40:41):
We love you big time, all right, love you guys,
fine very much? All right? So, uh, Steve, and can
the music skip righting? Is not on the phone? Jeff's
tried it five times and I said, don't bother on
a number six.

Speaker 4 (01:40:54):
He's wasted away again Margarita or.

Speaker 3 (01:40:57):
With his ribs or something. So I have a chance
at chat with Benny. I have a couple questions for you,
my friend. Okay, Steve asked you what was your most
crazy experience, right, which is a pretty big deal. You
had several you were thinking about, right, So, and your
time is being a captain. What has been the greatest
catch of your freaking career that you can nail down?

(01:41:18):
What's been that one day you nailed something that was
just out of this world man? So that you know,
I know, you're got a lot, a lot of them
to talk about, But what stands out?

Speaker 5 (01:41:28):
I'd say the ones that stand out and you remember
the most are probably tournament days because it's there's there's
more on the line.

Speaker 2 (01:41:35):
You know. We always say you could go out.

Speaker 5 (01:41:37):
There and fish all week and crush it all week,
but what can you do on a tournament day? So
tournament days really stand out in my head a lot.
But there's one fish. And actually one of the guys
commented on the posts you said earlier, Kenny Macielo. Yeah,
we were commercial sword fishing together. It was, to this
day the biggest fish I ever caught with Kenny fish
over five hundred pounds.

Speaker 2 (01:41:56):
It just me and him on the boat. We couldn't
even get the thing in the boat.

Speaker 5 (01:42:00):
I think it took about an hour and a half
to get the fish to the boat fishing an LP
electric reel. About an hour and a half to get
him to the boat. Took another probably hour and a
half to kill the thing once he was next to
the boat between a couple of darts harpoons. Every time
we'd hit him with something, he'd take off again. Maybe
another hour or two to get him in the boat.
Once we had him next to the boat dead. We

(01:42:21):
couldn't even figure out how to get this thing in
the boat. It was so big it would actually fit
the boat. I mean, had you would get him over
the side through the back door. We're just we had
to We had to slow down and think a little
bit instead of just physically trying to pull the thing
over the boat. Because that wasn't working. So we floated
the tail. We put a booie on the tail, we
had it on the back of the boat. It was about,
you know, four to six foot waves that day, so
we were kind of using the waves going up and

(01:42:42):
down as leverage, where when the waves were going up
we would just hold on tight and when the wave
went down we'd pull, pull, pull, And we kind of
worked it like that a little bit until at one
point I was holding the gas. I think the guy
Kenny almost got the boat on plane and then just
would like drop it into neutral, so we'd all thrust
forward and it was getting like a few feet at

(01:43:03):
the time there until we just pulled it in, slammed
it on the deck, and rode home with the boat sideways.

Speaker 3 (01:43:08):
So that's probably one of your biggest memories as far
as one of your greatest catches.

Speaker 2 (01:43:12):
Ever, wouldn't say the greatest catches.

Speaker 5 (01:43:14):
That's gonna be the one, you know, memories, there's a
lot more memories than that day, And again that probably
goes to tournament fishing.

Speaker 30 (01:43:20):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:43:21):
I got a real memorable tournament day with actually Captain
Doug Perez. We were fishing on my boat together, fishing
under the team named young Gunska for Lance Irving, who
runs the name Young Guns. Yeah, Lance was out of town.
He asked me and Doug to go fish a tournament
for him. Everything was covered by the team by Lance,
but we had to use my boat because he was

(01:43:41):
out of town and his boat was in the shop.
And me and Doug won that tournament. I think that
was the Chasing Tails tournament up north. We got like
a forty two and a half pound whilehoo that day
it was just a real memorable fun one where it
was kind of out of ordinary, the way where and
how we caught the fish and the scenarios that led
up to that. So, you know, you always think of
a bunch of different things.

Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
You're still a young guy, not aged like me, obviously,
you still enjoy doing this every day.

Speaker 20 (01:44:07):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:44:07):
You wake up with that same anticipation butterflies as you
head off shore. Man, you shook up that feeling.

Speaker 2 (01:44:12):
Gone, So it does become work, you know.

Speaker 5 (01:44:15):
I'd say I've never lost the passion, but I have
gone through some streaks where you kind of get a
little burnt out.

Speaker 2 (01:44:21):
I remember having a streak I.

Speaker 5 (01:44:22):
Think in twenty twenty one or twenty twenty two where
I went like twenty something days in a row and
did thirty something trips in those twenty one days, man,
and I remember telling myself like, man, I don't you know,
I don't know if I want to be doing this
grind every day like this, And it's not easy, man, right,
It's a lot of work. But I did get burnt
out for a period of time, and then we had
Captain Mike Savage and Tyler jump aboard where they took

(01:44:43):
a little bit of the workload off my shoulders, or
that kind of being off the water a little bit
and not out there as much. Then all of a
sudden you start seeing them catching stuff and you start
missing Oh man, while who were snapping?

Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
I wish I was out there today, and start building
that passion back.

Speaker 3 (01:44:57):
Are you actually on land running your two boats remotely
keep it a touch with the captains, or you're actually.

Speaker 5 (01:45:02):
Out of water every time you do a trip. No,
I'm not on the water for every trip. I mean
they get they get first DIBs on all the trips.
I got to keep them busy first. Okay, So you know,
I'm like the backup guy, gotcha. You know, if if
they're not there and we're booked up, I go, okay.
For the most part, I'm booking up the trips for them.
You know, I get a few people that request me personally.
Sometimes we can make it work and sometimes we can't.

Speaker 4 (01:45:22):
Penny, I got a question for you real quick. I
understand you are a utility kind of guy. Besides just
doing the fishing trips with customers, you guys. Also you
said before that you also sell fish sometimes as well, too.

Speaker 2 (01:45:33):
Correct.

Speaker 5 (01:45:34):
Yeah, I do have commercial permits. You know, we catch fish,
we're allowed to sell them to the markets. We don't
sell to the public. So we catch fish, we bring
fish to the markets, and uh yeah, it's part of
our little side hustle. I mean, I really bought those
permits as well to keep the guys busy. When there's
not charters, there's still something for do for my guys
to do, to go run the boat and make a
couple of bucks, even if it's not as much. What

(01:45:55):
fish brings the most money, well, fish that bring the
most money. I don't have those permits. Those might be
a lot, but yeah, I mean, i'd say going off
permit prices like down here, the snapper grouper permits are
real expensive. So you know, snapper and grouper yield a
high dollar amount. Wahoo pay pretty good, Mahi paid good.
I brought a mahi to the market recently. I think

(01:46:17):
I got seven fifty or eight dollars a pound four
but it was over twelve pounds, so a lot of
the smaller fish are only getting like four dollars a pound.

Speaker 3 (01:46:25):
Hey, by the way, one of your paisans just saying
hi here, Vinnie Galino. Yeah, this guy listening.

Speaker 2 (01:46:33):
Live from Greece. Oh yeah, they're in traveling him and
Monica his wife.

Speaker 5 (01:46:37):
And I told you this show is worldwide. My brother Okay,
he's in Greece checking the show out. Vinnie, way to

This is the ghost cycle G three.

Speaker 41 (01:51:11):
How did this electric bike fit into a treasure chest?
Because it folds down to be a lible to fit.
The pieces are removable to make the ghost Cycle G
three perfect to throw into any car on the go
and never have to worry about using a bike rack again.
The electric Gocycle G three is the perfect toy for
someone who wants to get outside for a nice bike
ride without bringing a sweat. You can hit up the
twenty miles per hour on this and bite comfortably up

(01:51:32):
to forty miles per charge. If you're the kind of
person who wants to be doing long distance bike rides.
Past the distance and fear, oh no, the battery's gonna
die on me, don't worry. The bike can also be
used as a regular bike to keep you going. When
you get home, throw the bike on the charger and
three and a half hours later, go again, Go back
another forty miles, come on, just come home, charge, repeat

(01:51:53):
as much as your little teeny heart can desire. Why
not use those three and a half hours of charging
time for the ghost Cycle G three to try qualifying
for a marathon by running it in under three and.

A half hours.

ghost Cycle G three comes with a three speed eternally
geared hub with electric shifting. The bike automatically shifts between
three speed gear settings to get the best pedal assists
you need based off of your pedaling speed. You can
check out the three speed settings off the handlebar in
the middle, facing vertically. The battery life is shown based
off the red dots facing horizontally, and the blue lights

bike is worrying about the pest stealing them.

Speaker 16 (01:53:11):

Speaker 2 (01:53:11):
Those e bikes are nice, man, but day cheap.

Speaker 3 (01:53:14):
But then again, these happy toys comics, they're cheap, but
they're great, great stuff to have.

Speaker 5 (01:53:19):
I was working on a boat one time, man, I
don't even remember what island we were at. Where we
were at, the owner came out, he said, hey, you
want to take a little ride with me up to
the store.

Speaker 2 (01:53:27):
I said, how are we going to get there? Let
me guess on what?

Speaker 5 (01:53:29):
He pulled out these bikes out of a bag, started
unfolding it, putting it together through the battery end where
the thing went from turtle to rabbit in three point
two seconds.

Speaker 2 (01:53:37):
Are really deep bad?

Speaker 18 (01:53:39):
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:53:39):
Before you go, Benny, one minute, tell me so I
go on your boat, Benny, I never hat it on
your boat before. Right, I pay your fee, whatever the
fee may be for the day. When I walk on
the boat. What's the first thing that happens. I'm greeted
by the crew.

Speaker 2 (01:53:51):
They asked for you. You know what kind of fishes?
I want to do for the day. What's the whole
deal man.

Speaker 5 (01:53:56):
Yeah, for the most part, you know, one of the
captains Sedator, we're in the business having a good time.
You want to make sure these people are comfortable, they're
having fun. The fish are kind of just a bonus.
So I say that to my guys all the time.
You know, show up with a good attitude, have a
good time. We do have our little spiels. We give
them a little safety speel, we give them a little
catch spiel, kind of pick their brains a little bit.

(01:54:18):
Sometimes we let them know, you know, we got bait
fish and edible fish and trophy fish, and kind of
see where their mind's at, see what they want to target,
see what they want to get into.

Speaker 2 (01:54:29):
Gotcha?

Speaker 3 (01:54:29):
No, all right, And your prices are pretty competitive. You
a full day, half day, three quarter a day.

Speaker 2 (01:54:34):
Watch the deal.

Speaker 5 (01:54:34):
Yeah, yeah, four six and eight hours. We're only at
five fifty, seven fifty or nine fifty. By the way, Wait,
that's the cheapest I've heard of so far.

Speaker 2 (01:54:42):
Man. Your prices are right.

Speaker 7 (01:54:43):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:54:43):
I hate to use the word cheap because she shows
poor quality. Affordable, So yes, we're on the more affordable end.
I mean, like I said, to you earlier. I grew
up down here where fishing was very expensive. To me,
I found a way to provide a more affordable experience
for people kind of smaller boat.

Speaker 2 (01:54:58):
Boat has a lower overhead. Gotcha, it only has one
crew member. Not too okay.

Speaker 5 (01:55:02):
The boat storage space per month is a lot cheaper.
So you know, we could provide this more affordable trip
and still stay afloat and people could get out there
and have a good time.

Speaker 2 (01:55:10):
Clock says, we're gonna zip it here. Betty, you have
been great.

Speaker 1 (01:55:13):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
