Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're on board the Nautical Ventures Weekly Fisherman Show with
legendary fisherman Eric Brandon, an extreme angler Joe Hector, powered
by Mercury Marine.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Go boldly, please, Holy holy holy Maho Maho. Oh boy,
that's the name I gave to a fish last weekend
bots job. That was man. It's ay a combination of
the mahi.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
And wahoo, and I made a video on it.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yes, you did a great video of my da Stanley Lee,
well done. You come on everybody walking to the show,
number one fishing show on the planet, brought to the
number one boat dealership on the Earth to me man
on the planet, on the planet, yes, and beyond.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Maybe in the universe.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Take us there, Kirk, how far do we reach with
this show?
Speaker 4 (00:51):
There's something on the wing, some thing like Nautical Line
you know, is that one? There's something that it's all
live of, Kirky. You're Alard, Actually that's from the Twilight Zone.
Like that's not even from Star Trek. Do you remember
the plane episode?
Speaker 2 (01:09):
No, I don't know. Something on the Jeff nine forty
thanks for flying to ship back there and Stevens a
great crazy makea wanting.
Speaker 5 (01:15):
To you the morning howling this morning, really just five.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
So well, the weather has been at real talk of
the town lately. It rains every freaking day. And yeah,
you recall September's ever being this wet back in the day.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
No, I think what happened was June and July have
been pushed to late August September.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Like the fishing species, like we're catching to the right
now when it was two months ago.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Well, it's to me, it's like it's like the dolphins
right now, right, It's it's a weird thing that that's
happened that no one can explain.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Like you're wearing that disgusting, nasty ass jersey from the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
You mean, oh you noticed that? Ye Can we talk
about that now? The Raiders are want to know.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Yes, sir, somebody you're sitting next to bet on the
Dolphins to win last week and lost. I'm already out.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
So you know the golf course, So Maria's golf course.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
They have that where you like, pick a best bet
for the week and if you lose that best bet,
you're already out of the pool.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Uh huh, Thanks, buddy, you made the decision.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
You made the decision.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
I picked your guys' Dolphins to beat the Causes.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
I thought they would win too. To be honest, I
mean I cannot bet on the fans, but I would
have bet if I could have bet.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Daniel Jones, really Daniel Jones, Indiana Jones.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Whatever, man, Okay, it is what it is.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
The guy looked like Joe Montana.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Well pass forward in five yards? Okay, so let's let
you go.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
There is he injured?
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Possibly he's a five foot three, left handed, slow ash
injured piece of garbage dollars.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
I think that was a week one blunder. I don't
think you guys were like ready, something was off. I
think you guys are going to rebound against the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Are we telling all the football talk though?
Speaker 5 (03:01):
No can move on.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
We have captains waiting get live. We do fishing boat.
They can keep waiting.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Jimbo's a Raider fan. He's all into this. I would
think not.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Let's bringing the first cap and the shoot man, Jimo
Thomas and a Thomas flyer. Joe won't bring him in
your special way, or I'll bring him bring him in naturally.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
His name is Jimbo. His name is Jimbo.
Speaker 6 (03:21):
He is jim boo mood.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
That was dis horrible.
Speaker 7 (03:28):
What was was that the Miami Dolphins theme song? It
almost sounded like it.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
It was Jim, I got two hours more with this guy, man,
trust me? Shoot sorry, comes later on the show.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
It's better than Colin. It's worse and worse as we
go along.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah, way better, way better, jem boyd chedded last night.
Has been a rainy week. The flyer got out of
the What the first time today going out? Or what?
Speaker 7 (03:52):
Uh? Yes for on a charter we're heading out today,
but I've been out a couple of days during the
week my bay boat. But yes, rain every afternoon, and
of course we've got rain this morning right now. So
although I looked at the radar and it's moving off shore,
so I think we're actually going to have a pretty
(04:14):
good day. There's nothing behind it, not yet at least,
so nice and calm. Talk to a few guys that
have been out, and honestly, in the charter boat side,
very few of us have been getting out at all.
So we're going to go out looking for dolphin, mahi's
whatever you want to call them. They should be pretty
(04:37):
eager to bite because they haven't had a whole lot
of pressure the last few days. From the keys. Even
the keys guys have been very slow business wise, so
not a lot of pressure on these fish. So finding
them is the easy part. Catching them, no, I got
that wrong. Finding them is a hard part. Catching them
is the easy part. So once we find them, they
(04:58):
typically are going to eat. So we're going to try
and get some pilchers or cigar meadows or some small
live base of of any species really, and then we're
gonna head offshore so we can find those bahis. You know,
they've been on floating debris. The seaweed's kind of not
dried up, but it's not as spread out and abundant
(05:22):
as it was, at least that not the last few days.
That could change today, So look for anything floating floating debris. Seaweed,
weed lines, and birds are going to be our best
tool or indicator for finding those dolphins. So we're gonna
head out there and until we find them, I'm gonna
(05:44):
keep going east. Either I'm gonna hit dolphin or hit viminy,
whatever comes first.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Well, speaking of don't forget look for that inflatable doll.
If you see that thing.
Speaker 8 (05:53):
Out the.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
Cow or sea cow, you got wahoo. If you see
a inflatable girl.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Mahi you got mah maho.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Yeah, that story.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
But if the audience wants to know why we're talking
about this, we left the last weekend. What's the craziest
thing you ever patrolled by in all your decades of fishing?
He said, there's like four digits sticking about of the water.
Weird things. YEA trolls by it. It's a inflatable chick
with her mouth open.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Oh yeah, really weird.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
And your chick tak thing was a spot out about that.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
Well, it's funny is I asked Rosie my Ai to
create a mahu and dude, she was spot on.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Man.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
She made a It was like a half mahi wahoo
and it was It had the stripes, but it had
the mahi head.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
She went all out.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
What about the chick though that you had the chick
on the screen?
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Oh yeah, and I had her as then you.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Have one with me like I love Joe.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Yeah, you were a doll. You were the blow up doll.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
I was.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Flattered.
Speaker 7 (06:53):
That's not pretty sight.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
And then I had Jimbo with his thumbs up open.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Yes he did.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah, h thanks so much boy. All right, Jim, well listen,
I'll have a great day fishing out there, man, maybe
something goodbye, you'll grab the mahi or wahoo or whatever.
Speaker 7 (07:13):
Hell's out your bite, anything dumb enough to bite. Yeah,
And there's there's a lot of bait showing up, so
things are getting ready to change and heat up. There's
mullet coming down the coast. We're starting to see pilchers,
which have been pretty scarce for the last few weeks
or months.
Speaker 9 (07:28):
Even so we.
Speaker 7 (07:31):
Got bait fish, means you're going to have predators following
those bait fish. So it's it's getting ready to heat up.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
All right.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Well, we know that we hate August. It was just
horribly hot. September is not much better. Hopefully October cool
down and things will get better on the water out there.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Well, a lot of rain.
Speaker 7 (07:53):
It's all good, you know, any day out on the waters,
better in the day on the couch, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
You got it, jim, But thanks so much. But have
a have a rocket weekend, buddy, catch them up.
Speaker 7 (08:01):
Thanks Jimbo, You got it, guys. Good luck everybody.
Speaker 2 (08:05):

Speaker 3 (08:28):
She took me on a tour. I went over there
with the family.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Yeah, we got in her like golf cart thing and
we did a tour of the whole area.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
It was awesome, very cool.
Speaker 5 (08:36):

Speaker 2 (08:37):

Speaker 5 (08:40):
It's got the best key line pie in the world
on the planet.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Of course, again we go through the disgusting she feeds
your face moment of course, which is just pathetically horrible.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Why do you hate it so much? Because I think
you're jealous?
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Your faces wide open.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
You get she's jealous.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
I think if it was you, you wouldn't be complaining differing
stuff down your Now.
Speaker 5 (09:01):

I know Eric because he would never do something with
National Farmer's Day unless it involved Lisa because she's very pretty. Yeah,

the women acres PA and she has the best key
line pot and he's probably gonna get some stone crabs

Buy props as well. Just everything marine connected is there
for sale. Then they have a big time summer blowout

a snakehead world record holder multiple times. Shall we talk
to the one of the only, Corey Noakowski.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Yeah, let's do it. Let's do it right. Let's up Corey.
Speaker 23 (14:57):
Too much.
Speaker 24 (14:57):
How you guys are doing.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
I don't we get what every.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Day I imagine you've been after doing what you do,
but it really selected after the rain, Holy mackerel bro. Wow.
Speaker 24 (15:06):
Yeah, it's about two o'clock, one on one, two o'clock
in the afternoon and the heavens open up. Been going
on lately, so yeah, definitely been Uh definitely been raining
every day, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
I got that like your Facebook post, right Joe, he
had some monstrous snake as he posted up this week.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Yeah, I was gonna say, I assume the snakehead fishing
is going off.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
These are big fish.
Speaker 23 (15:31):
Yeah yeah, yeah, we got him up just over twelve pounds.
That was that was the biggest, and uh got another
another one over another one close to ten and some
nine's eighth. So there's been some days where it's been
really good and then uh, you know, I had a
guy the other day it was fly fishing, which was interesting.
(15:52):
I mean I've I've had people fly fish for snakeheads before, right,
and uh, you know, that's that's kind of an it's
a unique challenge. It's interesting doing that for those fish.
It's you can we caught some, it's just you know,
it's there's a lot you know, you gotta be really
accurate with your cast and of course with that when
you're fly fishing. So but uh, now it's been good
(16:14):
for them, even though the peacock bass that's been picking
up too, but noticing with them they're starting to really
start schooling up, kind of getting to that fall pattern. Yeah,
so they've been starting to pick up two. That's been
a good bite also.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
But you're also a large mouth cane. I've seen large
mouth you've caught before. These are just like not regular
small fish jelling I hold up, yeah, make them look gigantic.
These are legit not held out photos of giant large
mouth bass on those sixteen inch monster worms. So you
still popping a few of those, Corey.
Speaker 23 (16:47):
What I didn't I didn't really get out to the
glades too much.
Speaker 24 (16:54):
Did get into some bass out in these urban canals,
so we did get into some of those are mostly
like on frogs, you know where we're snakehead fishing, or
even peacocks with the jerk baits. We got some you know,
some of them on those as well. But I haven't
got to the glades, but I'm sure that's probably changed
(17:14):
a little bit out there with all the rain that
we've had that tends to start moving water and you know,
water starts coming up, So I don't know, I have
to to get out there.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
I was going to ask you are they are they?
You think they're pumping right now? And I know a
lot of people go fishing at those pump stations. You
think that's happening right now?
Speaker 23 (17:31):
Probably?
Speaker 24 (17:31):
Yeah, yeah, I mean that's I'm sure from everything I
but most of the canals that I've been finishing kind
of stay away from that, you know, you get away
from those pumps. But I'm sure I have seen some places,
but water has been dry, it's dropped, So I'm sure
that you know that water has been running of course.
So yeah, but if you I mean the still ways,
that'll that'll congregate all sorts of fish, and it depending
(17:52):
on what canal you're fishing or where it's coming out of.
I mean, you could get snooked, you know, tarping, you know,
that's always an option to depending on what canals you're fishing,
is they have, But that's you know a lot with
the large mouths and the peacocks and stuff.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
So yeah, now, the.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Spillways are doing great.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
I've been seeing a lot of a lot of my
guys on social media holding up some nice snook around
the spillways.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Even still on the beach.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
So yeah, the snook fishing has been going off outstanding.
Speaker 25 (18:21):
Man.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Yeah, it's still snook season, right, I don't know if
it's over or not.
Speaker 23 (18:27):
Okay, I think it's still going.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
I think it's still going okay.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
By the way, if you want to find out more
about that, one of our sponsors is my baby f WC,
just log on myf WC dot com. Yeah, tells you
what's currently open closed. By the way, one big thing
opening soon next month. Stone crab season October fifteenth. Ah oh, man,
can't wait? And yes, indeed, Steven, I will be going
by Bob ross Grosse to pick up my paid, my
(18:55):
pain lies load of stone crabs.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
I do pay with that plastic.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
Probably not today though, what's not bring that season? She
may have a secret stash.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
That'd be frozen.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Nobody serves frozen crabs, by the way, Why they taste
like crap anyway, Cory some besides that, my friend Lack
I had all crush your path or not?
Speaker 26 (19:17):
No?
Speaker 23 (19:18):
No, I yeah, I try to stay away from that.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Du Wow and Johnny say the same thing.
Speaker 23 (19:24):
You know.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
No, it's just so fished out.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
I think that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 24 (19:28):
I mean, there's there's you know, there's fish there, and
I go there every now and again and there and
there are good fish there. It's just there's just so
many guides and so many people. It's just it's not
like when I used to fish it back fifteen years ago,
where there was a few guides and it was you know,
it was fun to fish. Now it's just like it's
a zoo over there. It's just so many guides and people.
(19:50):
It was always a zoo in the day back you know,
back in the day with people, but it was just
the guide.
Speaker 23 (19:54):
Now it's just ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Yeah, I gotcha a new guy.
Speaker 24 (19:57):
There's a new guide out there every week.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
So Johnny's Johnny Spool have goten a soap box sometimes
about that. Before, like all the legitimate guys out they
would putting the time in for years and years. Yeah,
Now they see all these random retiree guys who think
they're actually fishing guides and they've got a little fast
boat if they spent their money on a big fast
rig whatever wots the bling down stuff. But they obviously
no skill set at all and have no idea what
(20:20):
the hell they're doing, and they go charge half of
one of normal charges.
Speaker 24 (20:25):
Right, Well, You know what really helped that is if
the US Coast Guard and I have a I have
a used US Coast Guard Captains license. If if they
would make it where you have to have a US
Coast Guard captain license for any body of water, not
just because it's not connected to you know, not just
connected to the ocean, then it would solve a lot
of that problem to the d Yeah. Yeah, so because
(20:48):
you just can get any time, you can just get
anybody to go and do that.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Now, so it's strange in boating Joe and Corey and
Sebo that you have a boat. It requires no driver's
license at all. You get buy a boat and go
out there with no training at all and not even
know what side of the water to pass a boat on,
what channel markers mean, and just go out there and
be like on the water with no training.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
And we see that at the boat rams every weekend there.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
I tell my buyers when they for the first time
boat buyers, please take the Coastguard course online. You'll get
know which way you're boating out there because it could
be very dangerous.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
Do you actually give your little tutorial to your buyers
if they're like stupid and don't know anything about boating.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
I have a captain and I we work together and
we explain the rules of the road, how to put
the boat at the dock, which docking can be very tricky,
especially putting it on a trailer. One of my biggest
teaching techniques, Joe, Yes, Stephen is actually teaching a person
how to put a boat on a trailer properly, and
that takes a few tries.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Then the last one is teaching them how to back
it down a ramp. That is the most challenging thing
at all, and.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
You do that with them.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
I yeah, of course. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
I'm a friend of mine who just spent like twenty
k on a jet ski and he's already got like
like a million violations from even the police department goes,
why are you in our city? You need to leave?
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Yeah, it's it's really very dangerous. You're not trained to
be careful out there. But back to Cory again, my friend,
so Corey side question for we have a special guest
Lisa Roth coming up at bob ross Groves and Dave
you ever been out there before?
Speaker 24 (22:24):
I've heard of it, but I've never actually been to it.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
So if you have a chance to walk their entire orchard. Okay,
and you saw these trees with fruit, Okay, see a
starfruit tree, orange tree, a lemon tree, or a suck
attache tree. What's one of those? Which one of those
would you stop and pick a fruit off of?
Speaker 3 (22:42):
Kind of curious, So well, let's see.
Speaker 23 (22:50):
I'm I'm gonna well, I'm gonna go to the orange.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
There you go, all right, Okay, orange tree?
Speaker 5 (22:57):
Aren't you glad he picked that?
Speaker 2 (22:58):
I am really orange. I'm wearing orange.
Speaker 23 (23:00):
And I'm not sure, not sure about the I'm not
sure about the last one. I'm not sure about that one.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
That's just the kind of a brand my brain whatever.
Speaker 23 (23:11):
Yeah, yeah, I'm good to say. I'm not sure if
that's a good one to pick from. And I'm sure
I didn't think it was real.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
I would not do that. There's one fruit that gets
out of a tree. It upposed to be the stinkiest
thing on the planet. There's a name for that, damn fruit.
I'm gonna find out what it is.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Sour soap.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
No, it's just got a name, but it's really dasty.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
How about some strawberries?
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Take those of a heartbeat man, We do Joey, help yourself, man.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Hoory, what's your go to lore with peacocks, like if
you're if you're.
Speaker 23 (23:45):
H I would have to say, well for a big one, well,
a torpedo usually like a top water bait usually gets
those bigger ones. But I'll have to say if I'm
gonna if most of the time I'm gonna use like
a lucky craft coiner, that's that's jerk bait. I don't know.
Speaker 24 (24:04):
I use that morning because it's it's firstatile you can
use it. You can go deep, you can go you
can run a shallow if you want sort it. You know,
I'm just under the surface. Yeah, I would say that.
Speaker 23 (24:14):
Okay, that's what was producing this week for those.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
So imagine what's to tackle bad to really works well?
Torpedo yeah, of course, tackle bag open a backup, just
of lures just got carries around the mush, massive man.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
That's why any tip like that is huge. Corey.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
By the way, I've got four five live target lures
I did I bought recently that are for sale if
you'd like to have my really good deal from here
we go.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
Why are you dumping themeric.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
I can't get the damn thing on forty five bucks apiece.
Want to waste.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
That is insane. That is insane. So it does shows
themed insane.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
Well how did they get you?
Speaker 3 (24:53):
Eric?
Speaker 5 (24:53):
What made you buy them?
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Because I used them like ten years ago. They were
great and all of a sudden it is the mojo
wore off. Nobody wants them any more. The fish just
blinked the horizon.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
Weird.
Speaker 24 (25:02):
I did use the biggest fish I ever caught on
One of those is a giant snakehead in Malaysia. I
caught the seventeen pounder. He was one of those baitball.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
There you go, I've got.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
I got two or three for sale to the Corey
can have him cheap man.
Speaker 23 (25:18):
Okay, yes, there you go.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Where he's like, no, you can talk to you for hours.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Corey going to rock the clock. Man, have a great week.
You keep breaking the snake in records because you are
the man. You are the true title holder. Forget the
imitation guys. You are the man without a doubt. Okay,
sir baby, I'm saying the props are due. Man, he's

You're on board The Donegal Venture's Weekly Fisherman Show powered
by Mercury Go boldly with legendary fisherman Eric Brandon, an
extreme angler Joe Hector.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Nineteen years talking fishing and boating and under the water.
It is the one in the oldly Yeah Nautical Ventures
Weekly Fisherman Show on Powerhouse Station nine forty W I
and C. The Dolphins Official broadcast Parker and Facebook live
stream at Dougal Adventures. If you're brand of the show,
(29:29):
welcome to our program. Well, if you're asking yourself this
is crazy? Is this show this is crazy every weekend?
The answer is absolutely yes, it is. It is no
change in nineteen flipping years there was a time though
about oh gosh, you're fifteen or so. Before that time
it was kind of more and more sedate. Had a
guy that there would be on the show there cutting coupons,
(29:49):
exip of things.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
That was your friend.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Who whatever, He's gone. So that's like Joe's here now. Anyway,
let's gon say about Wayne consta Wayne caught on the
Reward fishing fleet. Joey, Hey, Captain Wayne.
Speaker 31 (30:04):
Good, good morning, gentlemen. Good, I heard my little little
thing in the background. I appreciate that.
Speaker 8 (30:09):
Man.
Speaker 31 (30:10):
You play a little bit of my boys there.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Yeah, yeah, before you start.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
A gentleman on Facebook stream had a question posed to
great Boat asked more of guys, question for your captains,
do these floral carbon leader on their planar rode cap?
What's your answer to that one? Please?
Speaker 31 (30:32):
Okay, I'm a little more old school with this stuff.
I don't think fish change. I think I think some
new things are better and and uh, I think what
happens is that the younger, the newer guys sometimes take
some of these new techniques to an extreme, whereas the
fish don't necessarily needed. I will say from my experience,
(30:55):
I think, you know, I you know, I've spent a
lot on my career really learning bottom fishing, but on
a ton of sailfish and all their stuff. I think
floro has a real place. I think it's less visible.
I think it's more abrasive resistant. I know when I
was experimenting with it, some of the guys that we
were mutton fishing a group of fishing and stuff, they
would put twenty five thirty feet of flora. I said, well,
(31:15):
that's expensive, and then they go yeah. I said, well,
why don't you just put like three feet of floro
instead of thirty feet? They go, oh, that's a good
idea because you're trying to make your hook and bait
at a little less visible. And yeah, I think there's
a place for it. But I share a heck, would
not go putting one hundred foot of flora carbon on
a leader on a planer first off years ago I
(31:37):
did some experimenting with that. We caught just as many
fish on fifteen feet as we did this one hundred
foot thing on a planer unless you have a detachable planer.
It's to me it's a joke that guys could take
charter boats out with planers and as soon as you know,
they get a fish on the planer and then the
mate gets to handline the fish for the for five
(31:57):
if it's a big wahoo, he hand lines the fish
almost the whole time, one hundred for the leader. It's
a fight to fish. You don't you get to fight
to fish? What's the point? So they did come up. Man,
they got some cool things. Now they got you know,
you put you put some dental floss loops and they've
got to snap on planing. You unsnap it and let
the angler fight to fish. And it's a wonderful thing
(32:17):
experimented with that year ago or so out in the
San Salvador and it really works well. So having to
have fluorocarbon, I would say, use a minimal amount and
and uh and I don't think yes, I think it
has great advantage.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Ray Boone, there's your answer a question. I believe it does.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
It thorough well.
Speaker 31 (32:40):
I like to explain things because so many, so many
so called experts they plant the seed without really experience,
without really the knowledge and experience, and so many people
run with it. So I'll give you the skinny on it,
man and I and I yes, I think it has
a place.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
Give it.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
It's great.
Speaker 31 (33:00):
Let me tell you what like a sailfish leader. It's
more abrasive resistant. You know, there's there's good. It's hard
as heck, you know.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
So you know, yeah, fleet, what have you been banging
in this week?
Speaker 31 (33:12):
Well, you know, this is our really slow time. So
we just came through some big inspections with a coast
guard and went flying through them and everything else. So
so I, you know, I said to my crew, they
were all ready to go fishing the other day. I said,
just tell those two people that show up that that
I'm taking you guys fishing and have them come back
the next day.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
So I did.
Speaker 31 (33:31):
I took my crew fishing, so.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Which stoked them.
Speaker 31 (33:35):
They got they were all stoked out about it. We
went and I let them onto a few little secrets
here there, and we ended up catching about one hundred
and fifty two hundred cigar minnows. There's there's there are
special ways of doing that. I can discuss more on
that later, but we just stayed real close to home.
We hooked a couple of sailfish.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
We had a bunch.
Speaker 31 (33:55):
We had quite a few kings that were short. I
was back at to Doc by one thirty. We had
a really not one nice mutton, one big yellowjack. We
broke off a big group or we cut a couple
of sharks cuban eats. Now, we just had fun. We
just took my guys out, Let's go have fun.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Man is that great Joe that his crew are helping
people catch fish all week long on his charge? Right,
he took them out there and had said, hey, guys,
have a blast. You guys will catch a fish down.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Yeah, you know, I love that.
Speaker 31 (34:21):
That's so great, Eric, I've been doing it for years, guys,
I've been doing it for years. My very first trip
was when the Pope take came to town. What was
that thirty years ago? I called it the Pope Trip.
I hit every wreck I knew all the way up
to Fort Lauderdale, and this is before GPS is. I
wore my guys out so but we caught everything. We
had a box full of snow groupers. We had one
(34:41):
hundred pound warsaw. We had a you know, we bottom
fished a lot, and that's pretty much. We just wore out.
I anchored up all night up off the steeple, and
anybody that was left alive was catching yellow tails. That
didn't drink too much beer, by the way, but yeah,
it was. It was a thirty hour slug fist.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
That's awesome that.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
The pope arrived. The pope was town.
Speaker 31 (35:03):
The road came to town back then and then and
the town shut down. I said, guys, we're going fishing.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Holy Mecherel.
Speaker 5 (35:11):
What did you see the holy cow?
Speaker 31 (35:17):
So you know the other thing we would do, the
swordfish thing. I'd bottom fish, wait all the way down
south off l a a key, and then I'd go
shoot straight out. We'd sword fished to back out front.
Always called one or two. We played poker while we're
out there. Everybody'd be pounding beers but me. But that's
okay because somebody's got to drive, you know, so Wayne,
but we catch a sword fisher too.
Speaker 9 (35:35):
Man.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
Eric doesn't like that for some reason. He is not
into sword fishing, and it boggles my mind. I don't
I've done it, Joe multiple times. It's worth the way
and long ass boring ass. I'm putting my gass there
fishing day. Why it's worth it if you get one,
if eight hours of watching.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
That Yahi.
Speaker 31 (35:59):
Caveat the caveat to That is this daytime thing with
electric reels. I'm not for that.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
Sorry, sorry, I want to.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
Catch the swordfish.
Speaker 31 (36:07):
Sorry, you want to catch the sword fish.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Let's go.
Speaker 7 (36:10):
Man.
Speaker 31 (36:10):
You go out at night with some stand up twenty five,
twenty or thirty pound tackle, put out four baits and
catch one. And now they're so damn small. They've been
beat down. They've been beat down so bad. The legal
size is way too small. I'm not happy about that.
But yeah, you know, in nineteen seventies, when I first
started doing this, the average swordfish was two to two
fifty pounds, okay, and we caught them every night we
(36:32):
went out. You want a real battle, man, you hook
a swordfish on a stand up road. Forget about this
electric crab. Yeah, it puts meat on the table and
guess what, so is a twenty dollars bill in public's
all right?
Speaker 5 (36:42):
So stop yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
That fish. Do you think do you think daytime swordfishing
really hurt the industry with that?
Speaker 5 (36:54):
All right?
Speaker 31 (36:56):
Everything, but twenty five years ago, my partner Danny kipnusays waiting,
they're catching swordfish off Africa and twenty five hundred feet
of water in the daytime. So they figured out that
the only time you see sword fishes was in their
fall and they're floating around the top in the daytime.
That's why they rarely would bite a bait. Then the
night things started down here, Roddy Schapman put out a
long line and called eleven sword fishing one night back
in the early strolling in the mid seventies, you know,
(37:18):
and that's kind of the stories of that. You know,
they went to a huge decline about ten years later.
People were pounded them so hard, so many longliners pounded
them to death. Ray Rocher started fishing for him again,
and he started fishing for him.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
With live bait.
Speaker 31 (37:31):
Created a whole new vibe. And I think and that
was fifteen years ago, and we started doing it again.
Back then, we you know, run out of buying beach
bre We ran swordfish trips on our small boat then.
But yeah, I think they're on the decline again. I'm
not I am never going to say I'm an expert
on it right now. I know that my son did
some commercial fishing for him in the last few years.
(37:53):
But I think in general, yes, I think that they're
in decline again. And I think it's overfishing and booe
fishermen they're called, you know, they're out so many booies
with so many baits. I just think it's just so
just just for our area, man, you know, I think
it's I think it's a bit much well rotten. Real
fishing really hurts hurt them, I don't think so. I
don't think so.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
We've had a great chat, man. We're so late at
the clock here, I can talk to you for hours, man,
But thanks so much to get kids fish on your
boat for free. If through thirteen.
Speaker 31 (38:19):
Yeah, Hey, I'm taking forty kids out this morning from
Cutler Bay Academy and then they're never caught a fish
in their life, and I'm gonna catch every dang one.
I'm a fishing I.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Hope catch them.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Thank you, all right.
Speaker 31 (38:30):
Gentlemen, reward fleet fishing mine.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Joey, blow them in there, buddy. Nobody gives better than you,
that's for sure.
Speaker 28 (38:40):
Man.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Here we go, the chiefly grew Jim, the man Chiefy
matthew On Jim. Yeah, boy.
Speaker 5 (38:50):
Yes, yes, yes, who's blowing bubbles today? Got it?
Speaker 2 (38:54):
That's Jojo.
Speaker 5 (38:58):
I like it, Joe, I like it. You know he's
a manly man. That's right.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
Hear that era I have?
Speaker 2 (39:04):
He a chiefy questions, definitely very popular.
Speaker 5 (39:08):
I have a chieving question. If you scuba dive for many,
many years of your life and you're constantly underwater, can
that cause brain damage to you?
Speaker 32 (39:19):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (39:20):
Okay. I was wondering because I saw some of your
posts this week on Facebook, and your friends are even
commenting on him too. It's like, stick to diving. I'm like, okay, now, know, yeah.
Speaker 32 (39:30):
I had some We can't get into our political views yet, okay,
but yeah no, yeah, well we'll have a separate conversation
about that because, uh but.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
You definitely rocked.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
You definitely rocked the atmosphere.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
I did.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Got called out by Stephen J.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
Gray.
Speaker 32 (39:52):
That's okay, that's listen. I'm okay, I'm okay. I defend
my position.
Speaker 5 (39:57):
Well, I hope you know that.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
Friends are very happy with you there though.
Speaker 32 (40:03):
You know what, listen there, they're friends, they're friends.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
You know how it is.
Speaker 5 (40:06):
It's no big deal, buddy, It's no big deal. Let's
let's get to the good stuff. All right, let's get
to the good, the good stuff.
Speaker 32 (40:17):
Thursday, Thursday, I do when the lady go diver. Uh,
they're part of Dixie Divers right here in Deerfield. But
their boat is down there at the sands in Pompino.
And I'm telling you right now, I don't know if
it was flatter ever, it's it was flatter than a lake.
Thursday was absolutely gorgeous. Now what's happening underwater is we're
(40:39):
getting that.
Speaker 5 (40:39):
Green fresh water because all that rain. Guess where it's.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Going in the ocean, baby, I don't know. Maybe the ocean.
Speaker 32 (40:49):
In the ocean, so the visibility, the visibility luckily maybe,
I mean maybe, yeah.
Speaker 5 (40:59):
It was, Yeah, it goes off the land of the
ocean from back to the brain.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
A defense in his defense, I will say, you could
say back to the skies for evaporation. His defense. I'm
just saying we won't go into we won't away. I'm
just putting in for the bugs talking.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
I don't know what you mean. Everything you happen is
defending you have to get more bugs. Nor would do that,
of course you would.
Speaker 32 (41:34):
But the good news is I'm carrying on the good
news is gentle, gentle south current really nice easy.
Speaker 25 (41:43):
Uh.
Speaker 32 (41:44):
Lobsters are still there, one at a time, one here,
one there. But I'm getting my limit. My buddies are
getting their limit. You know the picture you put up
there today or yesterday, it was all about us doing
the hunting thursdays on the Lady Go Diver.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
It was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
Man.
Speaker 32 (42:01):
These are buddies I've had for a long, long long time.
And it's good because we chat about different things, you know, who,
who's using what spear gun? Wow, what technique? How that goes?
And they're still there. I mean they're not the same routine.
We're not seeing them cluster together. We are seeing them
(42:23):
one year, one there, and uh. And I was primarily
on the second reef because I kind of liked that
shallower stuff, but the third reef was good too. I
told some boys, hey, go check out between the wall
and the rubble, which we have these west facing walls
off a lot of dell by the sea, and there's
some scattered stuff in between the wall and the rubble.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
To the west.
Speaker 32 (42:47):
It's maybe a hundred foot of sand and these like
little patches and you kind of lookt oh, look at that.
A couple of antenna there they are, and they like
this low profile and stuff. It's kind of like hidden,
and I think that's the reason why they like it,
because they can hide there.
Speaker 5 (43:04):
So that's good stuff for me. Uh, yeah, it was good, buddy,
it was good. I have a quick queak, a quick chief.
He question do we have? It's a quak one chief legitimate.
I have a buddy of mine who's uh, who hasn't
been diving in a long time, and he wants to
get back into it, but he's like almost like wanting
to go by himself to the keys in other areas.
(43:24):
Would you recommend him maybe going on one of the
boats with you guys or something like. You have the
like you go on a good boat that somebody can
go single and do and and relearn things again.
Speaker 32 (43:34):
Yeah, that's actually a good question for everything going there.
They do have a refresher course and it's worth it.
If a guy hasn't been in the water for a
while long time, listen if I yeah, if I have
been in the water in a week, I forget you know, I.
Speaker 5 (43:47):
Mean stuff, you know, dump dump dump dump dump dump. Yeah,
we talked, that's what happens. That's what happens sometimes.
Speaker 32 (43:58):
But but hear what happens is you definitely forget things
you get, you know, so if you haven't been out there,
stuff stop, you forget.
Speaker 5 (44:08):
So they go over the skills.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
It's not difficult.
Speaker 5 (44:11):
This is not difficult stuff.
Speaker 32 (44:13):
They actually have computers now you don't need, uh, you know,
these cards that you had in the past.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
It's much much easier to dive.
Speaker 32 (44:22):
That's probably, you know, a good thing for people that
want to get back into it. So take take a
refresher course to go through the pool, you know, and
then yeah, you want to jump on. There's there's a
bunch of different boats out there, and give it a
give it.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
A shot, jump on. You know. One last question, Okay,
one last I've been told I can't ask this question
the same way any longer.
Speaker 5 (44:47):
Interesting, don't do it?
Speaker 3 (44:48):
Put their spear through.

Speaker 2 (45:04):
So that's been good.
Speaker 3 (45:05):
We've been chasing hot fish. How about the big hogs?
Speaker 32 (45:14):
You know, not this week, but they've been around so
there's again, unless it's a Wow hogfish or a Wow
red grouper. I don't bother with them because you know,
then they just don't measure up.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
So that's not good.
Speaker 32 (45:28):
So yeah, I would say, yeah, take my last break.
I love I love all my friends. I enjoy having
a good time. That's what it's all about, buddy. I
don't get all hung up on everything else. So have

Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
They actually bring out up three hundred pies of the
dolphin training camp every year, don't you. Yes, you feed
the fis.
Speaker 20 (01:05:07):
We're gonna go over there and sample up some pies
soon with them.
Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
So cool to watch her and and the whole family
and gang going to drop off these pies shows. It's
not like one pie. It's like a case truckload full
of these pies. You're wheeling in to the stadium.
Speaker 20 (01:05:22):
We take two vehicles.
Speaker 2 (01:05:23):
Wow, that Mike closer to your little lipster baby. Sorry
about that anyway, Betty, back to you, my brother. What's
happening on Betty's fishing charters these days.
Speaker 9 (01:05:32):
Yeah, we've had a little bit of a slow week
as far as the amount of clients we got to
go out. But our trips we have since out have
been pretty productive. We had a trip yesterday from it
was three to seven pm where Captain Tyler got a
nice wahoo.
Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
Nice.
Speaker 9 (01:05:51):
So it's uh, you know, it's starting to fade away,
you know, that hot bite we've been going through for
the springtime. In the summertime, it is starting to slow down.
We went past September full moon here. Usually October is
one of the slowest months of the year, so we're
right there. The bite's going to start dying out now.
Instead of telling customers how hot the bite's been, will
be giving them a heads up on how slow it
(01:06:13):
is and going from there. But hopefully we get some
cold fronts, get some sales coming through, get some more
wahoo coming to on these big moons, we'll see. We
should have a productive offseason.
Speaker 3 (01:06:24):
We believe winners like almost here.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
Yeah crazy, it's crazy. But so the downtimes vid Vity
spend time catching commercial commercial fishing to fill in the
blanks or what.
Speaker 25 (01:06:39):
Do you do?
Speaker 9 (01:06:41):
Yeah, yeah, we definitely. I mean any days we don't
have charters as a question if we're going to go
commercial fish or not. You know, this time of the year,
it starts getting a little slow. We're doing that. Sometimes
ain't even work it.
Speaker 8 (01:06:52):
You know.
Speaker 9 (01:06:53):
We'll have some days this time of the year where
we try to go out. We don't even cover our gas.
I'd say right now, I'm ammercial. Note we still got
at least schools to mahi out there. You know, there's
there's some areas you could find, some kings, the Wahoos,
we could always sell. Those are the three main things
we sell.
Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
Gotcha very cool?
Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
Cool?
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Have you ever been to bob ross Groves? Been before there?
Speaker 9 (01:07:17):
And Davy No, So I'm gonna have to check it out.
Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
Check it out, man, great stuff, fruit, fruit smoothies, natural
sandwiches are great. Gift shop and stone crabs of my
dead coming up?
Speaker 9 (01:07:31):
Is that the thing with the with the big orange?
Speaker 8 (01:07:33):
Yes?
Speaker 9 (01:07:34):
Yes, oh dude, I've been there. Yeah, I think they've
been there. I didn't know the name, but I've been there.
Speaker 20 (01:07:40):
That's for me.
Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
Who has who has not been there? You know what
I mean? You may not know the name, but if
you say the big orange up by the road, yes.
Speaker 3 (01:07:47):
Yeah, literally one that's staple.
Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
Yeah, that vehicle actually drives that big orange actually.
Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
Is a moment.
Speaker 20 (01:07:52):
I used to drive it.
Speaker 25 (01:07:53):
Yeah, it's big, and it's the break and the gas
are reversed, so it's a little chick.
Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
I drove a few boats that were like break, holy crap,
break every gas reverse.
Speaker 5 (01:08:08):
Sounds like that'd be a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (01:08:09):
And can I drive it?
Speaker 20 (01:08:11):
I drive it?
Speaker 5 (01:08:12):
Yes, I can.
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Seeking a duy for driving. I think the wrong way?
Speaker 20 (01:08:14):
Beare? I don't know?
Speaker 3 (01:08:15):
If break?
Speaker 20 (01:08:17):
I don't know? Eric, do you want to drive it?
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
You think capable?
Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
No you're not.
Speaker 5 (01:08:21):
No, he's not.
Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
I'm wearing orange.
Speaker 2 (01:08:22):
I should be a natural fish, Thank.
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
You very much.
Speaker 20 (01:08:24):
Is that why you wore orange today?
Speaker 27 (01:08:26):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
I just it's a company thinking.
Speaker 21 (01:08:30):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:08:30):
A look at the back of his shirt.
Speaker 2 (01:08:31):
Whatever, Betty, back to you, my brother to fish on
Betty's fishing charters. How do we contact you there about brother?
Speaker 9 (01:08:39):
Yep, give us a call directly anytime nine five four
seven o six six five six five give us a call.
Will customize the day to do exactly what you want,
however many hours, customize your start time, target whatever you want.
And uh, give us a shot anytime, Betty.
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
I got a quick question, real quick, real quick. Ask Joy,
is there still some tuna out there?
Speaker 4 (01:09:02):
Because I'm seeing some guys on my feed holding up
some like football sized blackfin Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:09:07):
I mean I always say this time of the year
pretty much, we could catch tunes year year round. Yeah,
you know, randomly, it's not going to be any consistency,
but they are a lot smaller this time of the year.
You know, you could find the random big one here
and there. You know, once we start sail fishing, then
we're putting out a lot of live baits. You'll still
pick off that random you know, tuna here and there,
but not like springtime where you could go target them
(01:09:29):
and get you know, a whole boatload of them in
a little bit. And you know, even right now, you
could still pick off a couple here and there where
it's going to start saving the way real quick to
tune the bite again, it's tier year round. You could
always find something here and there, but on a consistent basis,
it's going to die out.
Speaker 3 (01:09:45):
And does that after noon bites start to die out
a little bit at this time of year.
Speaker 9 (01:09:50):
I always love the afternoon bite. Like those last four
hours before sundown. I sell this all the time to customers.
Those last four hours before sundown are just as productive
as the first few hours after the sun comes up
and there's probably barely ever any boats out there, so
you get half the pressure on the fish or half
the crowd of people, you know, clogging up the areas.
(01:10:12):
The more boats running over the fish, the more sketchy
they're gonna get and get locked up. So I love
them on trips man, watching the sun go down over
the water behind the buildings, and just you know, and
the day like that.
Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
Yeah, good, last question. Joe took us eight minutes over
the breaks.
Speaker 3 (01:10:27):
What I do my friend?
Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
Well done, Thank you, Betty, have a great weekend. Brother,
came back to Bob Ross. I'll be waiting for you.
Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
Drop the visit off your bill.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
Okay, thank you very much.
Speaker 9 (01:10:41):
I'll pay double they charged me double, man, Thank you so.
Speaker 2 (01:10:44):

Speaker 2 (01:11:24):

Speaker 5 (01:15:48):
It's a big orange right next to the road.
Speaker 2 (01:15:50):

other restaurants that actually go there and buy it and
resell it. So people are learning. And I wanted to
show you guys their delicious Keylon pie because I hope
(01:16:27):
we feed Joe with this later on we are. But
look look how delicious this is. And and I mean,
this is the best tasting in the world.
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
Man, that's the most of the pies. Hand make up
my hand, don't you.
Speaker 5 (01:16:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
Every day?
Speaker 20 (01:16:40):
Oh yeah, we make them by hand.
Speaker 2 (01:16:41):
Grab cracker crush and goes And why.
Speaker 5 (01:16:45):
Is it called Terry's Pie?
Speaker 2 (01:16:46):
Terry's Okay, she actually came up with the recipe many
years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:16:51):
Yeah, we'll talk more about that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
But we have a Captain Wedding Line who's waiting to
talk to us before he goes out fishers with his clients.
Captain Vinnie sax The Why be normal? No, Vinnie what's up?
Speaker 23 (01:17:05):
What's up? Fellas?
Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
How you guys doing, Vinnie, I have a guesh you've
been by Bob ross Groves and Davy back of your day? Ever?
Speaker 3 (01:17:11):
Going by there?
Speaker 23 (01:17:11):
I'm beout my my I have anytime I have a
party and I need some desserts, that's usually where I
go to grab a key Lin pie.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
Oh there you go?
Speaker 2 (01:17:21):
How about is that another fan? What were you saying
mumbling over there? And knucklehead? Anyway, we're glad that the program, Viny,
it's your time, my brother, So the yby normal want
this week? Wit you catch bro.
Speaker 23 (01:17:33):
I only went out a couple of times. I actually
went down to Key West and fished a five day
trip down at Pulley Ridge. So I didn't fish that
much on my boat, But days I got out a
couple of sailfish around out front of Port Everglades. I
think it's a little bit early for sailfish, but for
some reason they're around a few mah, he's here and there,
(01:17:56):
some on the reef, some off shore, a couple of
kingfish starting to show up here. And bottom fishing has
been good for the vermillions, So little mixed bag, I
would say, right now.
Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
Nice, nice mixed bag is good. So I know a
lot of our captains say the charters this time of
the of the year normally is very slow. It gets
very slow. That affect you at all as far as
being seasonal, And guys are just gonna stand away for
October or September.
Speaker 23 (01:18:20):
Yeah, it's not that busy right now. Maybe two or
three trips a week if the weather will allow it.
You guys know, the rain's been terrible, so if you're
gonna go, you gotta go in the morning.
Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
Man. You know, I can do rains every flipping day,
So if the mahi calmed down. I remember last week
I made a big faux pall on the program with you.
You were on the show, and I called him, I
want to call him Mahu Mahu.
Speaker 3 (01:18:41):
I was asking.
Speaker 2 (01:18:44):
Any maho's. Sorry about that confusion, man, but I was
asking about mahi and wahoo, but any any of those
things biting it all scattered whatever.
Speaker 23 (01:18:53):
Yeah, it's been real scattered. There's been a few mahi's
on the reef. But you know, just lucky more than anything.
And uh yeah, hopefully this wind turns around and goes
more east for a couple of days. I think that'll
turn the mahi's on.
Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
So we had a question one of our captains video
want to ask the same question. He was asking about
floral carbon and usually those on planters. What's your thoughts
about that? What's your technique?
Speaker 23 (01:19:18):
Normally one hundred percent? You should definitely use flow carbon.
I've trolled the same planer side by side with the
same lure and one will flow carbon in, one without,
and the one with slow carbon got way more bites.
Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
Wow, sure, I like that man.
Speaker 3 (01:19:33):
So he literally tested it out.
Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
Yeah, right, So the answer came through that ray Ray
Boot asked that question. So they're all saying, man, flora
carbon is key floral baby. Yeah. Only think with that though, Vidie,
how much line do you have to actually handlined in?
I'd say, the planter comes to the boat, what do
you got? Fifty yards out there? What's mine the boat?
How far you get to crank it in?
Speaker 23 (01:19:53):
Well, that's that's the old school way of doing. Everyone
now is using wind on like an foot of leader
is probably all you need. I usually do twenty foot
a floor of carbon because if you get a little afraid,
you can just cut it back a couple of inches
so you don't have to keep retying everything.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
What is a wind odde just out of curiosity.
Speaker 23 (01:20:15):
So the the original way of doing the planners is,
you know, you reel it up to the rod tipp
and then you hand line the fishing.
Speaker 3 (01:20:21):
Correct.
Speaker 23 (01:20:22):
Now, now everybody's doing it where you reel the planner
up and you take it off and you reel the
whole leader into the real.
Speaker 2 (01:20:30):
Okay that makes sense, Joe, Yeah it does.
Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20:33):
Yeah, by passed the planner and crank the rest of
the line in. So the hand lining because by the
time you get that hand lining, you know, sharks have
become a major problem. So to me share handlighting something again,
you got a chance to get sharked because it takes
so damn wanting that line in hand over hand over
hand right right right, So Craik, that sucker put the
heat on it, man, right, but the heat, baby, the
heat bro damn all right, Vinny, So go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:20:56):
Joe, yeah, real quick, Vinnie, what color seawitches are you
using with your plans?
Speaker 3 (01:21:01):
If you're using any.
Speaker 23 (01:21:02):
Pink, it all depends. I like to look at the
water color before I make my decisions. You have dirty water.
I like the bright colors. But when it's clean water
like that natural blue and white or white. I know
you love pink. I fish a good amount of pink,
but not all.
Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
The dimeis oh many, ask me about the pink thing, right,
just so Steve didn't play that song in your water.
Speaker 3 (01:21:26):
Okay, pink is the way to go, he says.
Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
There's insight. Figure with Joe. He's going to be a
pink skirt, a pink a pink shirt, his pink skirt.
It all goes together.
Speaker 23 (01:21:38):
Think that's a real, real man's color, right, the pink.
Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
Lots of mainly color. Hey, fish, fish on your boat, man,
give us your contact news again, please, my friend.
Speaker 23 (01:21:51):
Yeah, give us a call direct nine five four five
five nine Ford.
Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
And by the way, if you've not heard the word,
if you go by Bob Ross, those key LII pies
make great trolling bait. I mean literally everything you Yeah,
why would you say that? I mean, ye official, just
think you know the great troll in your face, your
troll slices, a key pie, a planter. It's amazing you
out of your mind.
Speaker 5 (01:22:15):
This is like, yes, you don't throw those slices away.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
Vinnie, have a great weekend, brother.
Speaker 23 (01:22:20):
You alright, you guys take care.
Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
Now. We have a big wedding coming up with six
captain lista coming up here in November. Johnny is getting buried,
young man right to a lovely wife. I can't think
of better pies to be at the wedding reception or
the wedding gathering. Then your pies, you make a rotting
not just key li mango mango Keaylan pie.
Speaker 25 (01:22:45):
Right now we're doing the pumpkin Kaylan pie for this
holiday season. Wow, mango's the best.
Speaker 20 (01:22:50):
The mango's are right from our trees in the back yard.
Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
She brought a sample of the mango key Lin pie,
Thank Joey for you to try.
Speaker 20 (01:22:56):
Yeah, okay, so I brought the pumpkin key.
Speaker 2 (01:23:01):
So get ready to get sure.
Speaker 3 (01:23:05):
Okay, let's pretty good, Johnny, I think I do, Johnny,
Johny Simil good wing brother, How are you?
Speaker 2 (01:23:11):
Good morning?
Speaker 46 (01:23:12):
I am doing good, getting over getting over the flu
right now. But I did get some fishing in at
the beginning of the week. And uh, you know, take
your vitamin C folks, because it's uh, this is a
bad run of the flu this season. But like I said,
I did get to fish this week. The mullet run
(01:23:33):
is is almost in full force. I mean it, it's
really shown up kind of fast and quickly and or
fast and full, i should say. And we caught a
couple of big snook and lots of big jack gravel's
at the beginning of the week before I was put
down for a few days. I've heard that the fishing
(01:23:58):
on the lake right now is also really good. Peacocks
are really fired up with this kind of this a
little bit of rain here, a little bit of rain there,
lot of rain one day. It's it's kind of a
good mix of you know, the end of summer moving
into the fall, cool in, the water temperature down a
little bit, getting those fish ready for you know, for fall,
(01:24:21):
which they're gonna be just absolutely gorging on you know, threadfin, shads,
sick lids, anything that they can fit in their mouth.
You know, those fish are gonna gorge on. And it's
a good time. You know, basically now for the next
month and a half is a great time to get
out and fish the lake. It's just kind of opportunistic
(01:24:43):
and the fact that you can go out and catch
anything in just a short window in the morning.
Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
So it's uh, it's.
Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
Good, you know, you know, it's funny. We actually it's weird.
Speaker 4 (01:24:53):
We didn't talk about the mullet run that much yet. Yeah,
so that's good Johnny brought that up. Yeah, because that

a total wreck. But anyway, you know, I feel like
that with.
Speaker 48 (01:33:13):
The accessibility of radars on our phone, there should never
be a day where you are out on a boat
with a client and you get them wet.
Speaker 2 (01:33:22):
They are buying a seven hundred dollar boat from me.
I'll go whenever they want to go.
Speaker 5 (01:33:28):
If the boat can handle that, believe me.
Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
Okay, yeah, they got a nice and dry money outside,
get wet. But anyway, you lived down here before, Jen,
you ever go by Bob ross Groves and Davy remember
that place back in the day.
Speaker 48 (01:33:42):
I don't remember that.
Speaker 2 (01:33:44):

Speaker 3 (01:35:08):

Speaker 2 (01:35:09):
Trade with Joe. I don't trade it all. Obviously called
Joe to be your personal trainer. Door stuck in doors
doing nothing, don't know, don't get flap you on the couch.
You called Joe, He'll get you as show a virtual
visit on on your phone, gets you all pumped.
Speaker 3 (01:35:24):

How it?
Speaker 3 (01:35:28):
How about that? Or you trained with Joe on the go.
I just did you a favor. I gave you a major.
Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
I gave you a major plug man, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:35:37):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
How I was as I gave you a gym prop.
Probably a lot of people don't even know I do that.
Speaker 3 (01:35:42):
I do it out there.
Speaker 2 (01:35:43):
Yeah. So he's like, I'm the trainer. He makes people
like me. It's my own business and body into a
massive monster working on Eric not Eric's.
Speaker 48 (01:35:54):
Could I hire Joe to be my personal trainer and
he could work me out like in Atlanta and my
home gym?
Speaker 3 (01:36:01):
Well, yeah, that's what I do. Yeah, I trade people
on on Zoom, Skype, the whole thing virtual.
Speaker 2 (01:36:11):
Jen there you man, you got each other's phone numbers,
so you remember I don't, but you have.

Speaker 2 (01:36:20):
Got a whole new connection. Look at that. You can
work at her home gym and then Joe talking to
the routine.
Speaker 3 (01:36:26):
So if you need help, I'm your guy.
Speaker 2 (01:36:28):
Just remember what Jed do the The's two boys to do?
Speaker 5 (01:36:31):
What was steroids?
Speaker 3 (01:36:33):
Here we go?
Speaker 5 (01:36:34):
I knew something was Yeah, I knew he was gonna throw.
Speaker 2 (01:36:39):
Okay, so pick ye have a great weekend. Okay, Raiders,
I got a worry from a Jeff that skip ratings
on his way to the gym. Okay, so we have
to hurry up get about the phone before he hits
the gym for real gym? Yeah, no, good you are
you serious? Gosh ye? Skip? You at the gym?
Speaker 25 (01:37:00):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:37:00):
Are you still able to talk to us? Buddy? What
is it?
Speaker 33 (01:37:04):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:37:04):
I'm good.
Speaker 7 (01:37:05):
I go to the gym every day.
Speaker 8 (01:37:06):
I've been going for four years. Actually, when I throw
off the boat that said I wasn't going to gym
over these years, I might not even be here. I
fell eight feet from the bridge to the deck and
I cracked four ridge. But I'm pretty much better now,
and I'm limited to what I can do with it. Jim,
But it's like an addiction. Anybody knows that gym knows
what I mean about it?
Speaker 5 (01:37:23):
My man, Skip, are you going to the gym?
Speaker 2 (01:37:26):
Orre you that skill?
Speaker 5 (01:37:27):
Are you dating?
Speaker 6 (01:37:28):
Jim?
Speaker 5 (01:37:28):
What's going on here?
Speaker 2 (01:37:30):
Is good? All right?
Speaker 8 (01:37:38):
Earlier that I hope next week you talked about about it,
poly Ridge, where your captains talked about the trips to Polly.
You want to find out a little bit more and
get something done, how great that trip is or not.
Because we had a trip book here a couple of
weeks ago on the angle, got sick the night before.
We had to cancel the whole time thing. But uh,
we are gone to go to Polly Ridge on the
(01:37:58):
Papa Wahua as soon as a's But that's best topic
that Polly Ridge. If you ever had anybody on the
show talked about I think you really enjoyed whistling.
Speaker 3 (01:38:07):
Very cool.
Speaker 2 (01:38:07):
All right, So what's begging the keys this week? Still
see scattered mahi? What's really been happening?
Speaker 8 (01:38:14):
Well, you know, like what, like Benny said, you get
out there seas. Yeah, you probably don't have a target
area for to catch tuna. We have a target area
or two or three. We got the album or out
of hump. You got the four or nine hump and
the one down towards Manton, which is also a target
area for everybody. Is so fast today and the tuna
fish most of the time for the last month or so,
(01:38:35):
the tuna fish have been biting good earlier in the day.
You get there at seven o'clock in the morning, you
get a couple hours by the time the sets get
the sudden gets in the different direction.
Speaker 3 (01:38:43):
A little higher.
Speaker 8 (01:38:44):
The fish like to go down and out of that,
like Benny says, you got so many boats, and we
have a target area. It's not like up there you
can spread out and catch them. Down here, these flee
spots that everybody has to go to all the time.
And then the private boats are there and so for
so anyway, the tuna biting early and then either day
in the afternoon, like Benny talks about it, like being
out late in the day. But anyway, the guys that
(01:39:04):
stay out there are not many do, by the way,
but if they do, they get rewarded with some tuna,
and sometimes the better size. That said, why he forget
about it? What's happened to my He had talked to
He found that magical piece of debris, which I talked
about all the time. Not just a piece of debris.
I mean, it just has to be magical meanings fish
out it. And he showed me some real nice schools.
But there's nothing in the birds. Off. Sure you go
(01:39:27):
from the Armata hump with his birds for the fish
for the tuna. Then you say, well, I'm going to
venture out and find some birds. Whe they're not finding
the birds out day. What you have to find is
that magical piece of debris and then perhaps make a
piece of fish. If it's magical and that's about it.
Then after that you want to go in and try
some yellow tail fishing if nothing else works, If you
go introduce some yellow tail fishing, that's a sale state.
(01:39:48):
You know. On the way home, you stop forget it
does of the two of those legal side and that's
your day here at Almorado right now.
Speaker 2 (01:39:53):
All right, stiff question for you. You know, key line
play I think originated in the keys, right. You grow
those key lives in the keys like a lot of restaurants,
and the keys are serving key lii pie. Skip. My
guest is Lisa Roth from Bob ross Groves and Davy,
and she don't know any You sound great on the phone,
by the way, exactly her dass. She sounded weird, but
(01:40:14):
she sounds great to me anyway. So I wonder who's
not a better key li pie the little there's a
couple of especially restaurants and the keys that make keyli
pie versus Lisa's Keeli pie should be.
Speaker 3 (01:40:24):
Like a pie.
Speaker 5 (01:40:26):
I know the answer to this one. I know the
answer to this one.
Speaker 8 (01:40:29):
Well here's the answer. How can you I don't want
to hurt any of my friends and all these key
live pie restaurants, not restaurants, but restaurants that serve key
Li pie. But the Key West is like but probably
one hundred and fifty different key Lime Pie renditions. And
I'm not going to say I like what I do
like pie. I've never had pumpkin key I pie. So
(01:40:49):
I think if you want to save me a jaw
down there, I'll pay for it.
Speaker 2 (01:40:52):
That we'll get you. We'll get your jar, skip, We'll
send your jar down man on some frozen ice or
something whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:40:59):
Man, you know, but.
Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
I've had Keyli Pie. It's the Ziggy and Mad Dogs
one of the most like. That's a great place, by
the way. That's the late great Jim Maddog manages to
establishment back when he ordered and they have some great
key Lime pie there as well.
Speaker 5 (01:41:16):
But does it compare they do?
Speaker 2 (01:41:19):
There's entirely different list. It's got this great I don't know,
cream on the edges, and there's more like flat without
all the fluffy stuff she does winds Eric, it's gotta
be uh Bob Ross Keyli pie hands down?
Speaker 3 (01:41:31):
Yeah, yeah, Eric, what was that? That was weird? It's
the truth, man.
Speaker 5 (01:41:39):
I one time I've been to the Keys by the way,
is good. Key Lime Pie in the Keys. But this
Bob Ross, this just the standard. This straight key lime
pie that they have is really good.
Speaker 3 (01:41:52):
Okay, it's awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:41:53):
Right.
Speaker 8 (01:41:54):
Well, I don't have a favorite my favorite that I
can mention one all of the other because I like
them all. Let's leave it that way. But I haven't
had that young Lady's kay Lion pie. I have to
try that once, the.
Speaker 3 (01:42:05):
Best hand down. How about the great Tree?
Speaker 5 (01:42:08):
Then they got Turtle Rest on Monday.
Speaker 3 (01:42:11):
Yeah, great turtle.
Speaker 8 (01:42:12):
Yeah, Turtle Rest on Monday. Yeah no, No, everybody's never
get their own randish By pie. And I love it anyway.
So that's it. They need some kids they want to.
Speaker 3 (01:42:23):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:42:23):
He's being very diplomatic. I will agree. Yeah, Skiff, have
a great weekend. Man, let me the program, go work
out and pop some weights. Man, do you think?
Speaker 8 (01:42:30):
All right, guys, I'm listening to you. I talk kid
next week.
Speaker 3 (01:42:33):
Bye bye see you, buddy.
Speaker 21 (01:42:34):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:42:35):
The man is eighty two years old and he's so
like sell he's thirty five or forty.
Speaker 3 (01:42:39):
Man, I hope I didn like that when I'm eighty two.
This guy is if I make it.
Speaker 2 (01:42:44):
Fuels up man, Yeah, you know what I'm saying, oh yeah, so,

You get those massive guns you like to show off
every weekend with your medium.

Speaker 3 (01:42:57):

Speaker 5 (01:43:00):

Speaker 3 (01:43:02):

Speaker 2 (01:43:03):
Oh here you go, pull it in the star froot.
Take the thing to do this a hole man, Lisa, showman,
how to do it? What you please? This is not
a real big rocket science think Joe Okay, you bring
it there.
Speaker 5 (01:43:19):
Glass, that's glass to be careful.
Speaker 3 (01:43:21):
Oh yeah, oh so you don't use this thing.
Speaker 25 (01:43:24):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
So, if you're watching on the stream, this is enjoyable.
If you're on the radio, you have no idea what
the hell is going on?
Speaker 5 (01:43:31):
Will play by play.
Speaker 2 (01:43:33):
Lisa got the total of the right hand, and she's
not got a coconut in left hand, and she's gonna
be taking arm back night, big swing and crush that
thing into the key to the hole of the coconut.
Speaker 5 (01:43:46):
Wow, wow, look at that.
Speaker 3 (01:43:48):
