Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're on board the Nautical Ventures Weekly Fisherman Show with
legendary fisherman Eric Brandon, an extreme angler Joe Hector, powered
by Mercury Marine, Go Boldly, the money, holy.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Macaroni and cheap good editing in there for us.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Yeah, so beside me, I got Captain Benny here. Eric
is out doing god knows what. But yeah, guys, I'm
gonna be uh.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Host of the show today.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
We got Steven.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
How's it going, brother Wanning? Happy Saturday? How y'all reeling?
Speaker 5 (00:39):
Man?
Speaker 6 (00:39):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
You know? Living the dream?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Raiders lose again Thursday Night football? I just you know,
I am so done, man.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
I can't no, no, no, Joe, before you like we
got this, We're the greatest of all time. Just you
already backed out, bro when.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
You got a guy like Pete Carroll coming in who
like won Super Balls all that stuff, and we still
can't win a game. I don't know anyway, we got
to get back to fishing. Eric could be yelling at
me right now. So, Benny, how's it going, brother?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Pretty good? Yeah? Yeah, happy to be here. You're so
chilly back.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I wish I was as chill as Benny. I just
I can't do it. I'm like a like a crazy rabbit,
you know.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
I mean, I gotta be more chill when I'm with you,
with Eric, I got to level the show out a
little bit. That's true. That's true. How's the fishing. Fishing's
been good. I mean business is slow, but the bite's
been hot. So every chance we've had to get out
there this week, it's been pretty productive. We've had some
commercial trips bringing fish to the market, happy customers, bringing
fish home. Right, We'll talk about that when it's my shot. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
(01:39):
And the weather's been better. Yeah, luckily, weather's been better.
It's looking great this weekend. If you're looking to get
out there this weekend, call one of your favorite captains
on this show set up a trip. Because it's a
slow time for us. We definitely need some local support.
And like we said, the weather's great, fishing's hot, so
get on out there. Nice. I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Also, we got to be cold front coming right, Steven.
I think like it's gonna be.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Like in the thirty Oh my gosh, on like Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
No, not down here, bro, come on, don't don't be
freaking over, come on, don't be fakeweather dot Com. It's
it's gonna be in the fifties down here, but no thirties, okay,
thirties in central and northern Florida.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
So and it'll be in the fifties out west by
you out east by the time you wake up Tuesday morning,
it'll be in the sixties, seventies, make a snowman with
maybe maybe the thirties.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
We don't know yet, Like I'm gunning for like really
cold you know that Jersey weather.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
So it'll be good.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
And we got Captain Jimbo Thomas I think coming up
from the Thomas Flyer.
Speaker 7 (02:35):
Is he on.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
All right? Captain Jimbo?
Speaker 8 (02:40):
Hello, Yeah, I'm here.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
How's it going?
Speaker 8 (02:43):
Hey, good morning, guys.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Good morning morning. How you doing. We got Captain Benny
here with us. How's it going?
Speaker 8 (02:48):
Hey, Benny? So Joe, that was the best introduction yet.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, that was short and sweet, right, perfect. I mean,
if you like, I could sing you a song.
Speaker 8 (03:00):
No, no, we're already here. We're good for years.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
You know.
Speaker 8 (03:05):
It's weird.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
I'm in charge of the clock now, and like I
don't know, we're just go on for like four hours.
I have no idea, so we're just kind of rolling
with it.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
But how's the fishing out there?
Speaker 8 (03:19):
So we've had pretty decent fishing this week. The weather's
been nice this weekend, like you guys are just saying
that it's gonna beautiful today, and yesterday we had a
little wind earlier in the week, but it wasn't terrible.
So dolphin fishing has been pretty good this past week.
We've caught dolphin anywhere from fifty feet of water to
(03:40):
about twelve hundred feet of water.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (03:43):
So yesterday we had them. There were some valley whose
showers and about fifty feet We got in there because
this summer the year they're selfish chasing those valley who
a lot of times, but we got in there and
it was dolphin chasing them. So we caught some dolphin,
nothing huge but nice Polly's up to six seven maybe
even an eight pounder. And then then a couple of
(04:05):
days earlier this week of Wednesday and Thursday, we were
catching them out in anywhere from about four hundred to
twelve hundred feet of water. I had. The biggest one
I had this week was seventeen pounds, which to today's
standards is huge because we rarely catch one over ten pounds.
(04:27):
It seems at least the last year or so. So
we had a seventeen pounder which was a nice one
that he was under a frigate bird around some grass
out about eight hundred feet of water. So dolphin fish
has been fairly consistent, and it's almost all under birds.
Even when those bally whoes were showering on the reef,
there was frigatebirds on top of them. So look for
(04:48):
birds once you find them. If you have some pilters
troll a bally who troll a little lower, you got
a good shot to get those dolphins. And then we've
had a pretty good salefish action along the end edge
as well. So we've caught some sales this week on
my baits along the edge. So it's been fairly good fishing.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Awesome, man, awesome.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
You know, I remember making that short clip of you
talking about the birds and how important they are, and
like if the birds are going one way or something,
the school's going another way. Can you explain that again?
Like that whole system with birds, all.
Speaker 8 (05:26):
Right, So, but with the frigate birds there are gonna
be on top of the fish waiting for the fish
to push up. Flying fish, so they're all trying to
eat the same thing. The flying fish are getting it
from the water and from the air when they come
up to when the dolphin chase them they come up,
then the frigate birds will come down and try to
(05:47):
eat them. So when the frigatebirds are down, I call
it on the deck. When they're down on the water,
that's when you want to be there or have your
bait right there, because that's where the fish are. Otherwise,
if the frigates are up high, the fish can be
anywhere in a couple hundred yard radius from wherever the
bird is and he's just waiting again for those flyers
(06:09):
to come up. He could be right over top of you,
and in the next second he's two hundred yards away.
Because that's where the fish are, So you don't necessarily
have to be right under them, but you want to
follow that bird. If there's some turns working with the
frigate bird, get under the turns because they're going to
typically stay right on top of the fish. So another tip.
(06:33):
If you get out there and you got frigatebirds and
turns working and you get under them and they all
go up and disappear, more than likely they were not
on dolphin that they are on skip jacks or little
black and and tunas because when they their boat shy,
when your both gets next to them, they go down deep.
(06:54):
The birds all of a sudden they can't see them,
so they're like, well, we're going to go off and
look for some something else the dolphin or not boats guy,
So the birds are going to stay right on them
when you get there. So the birds hang out, They're
most likely on dolphin. If they split and leave, you know,
they might come down a quarter mile away, typically not dolphins.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Interesting, how's that sound that?
Speaker 8 (07:18):
That was a lot that was yeah, okay.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Kind of lost me towards the end, but then I
got reeled back in with the tuna bike.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Because I was going to ask you about that. How's
the tuna bike going?
Speaker 8 (07:29):
So there have been some small black fans. I wouldn't
call them really tunas. They haven't been big enough to
keep at least the ones that I've caught and seen
in the last week. That doesn't mean there's not any
bigger ones out there, but they've all been small ones
this week. Even out at the government cut hump, which
(07:49):
has become a tuna hot spot pretty much, they've all
been small ones at least in the last few days.
And I know you're going to ask there have been
some wah who's caught. Yeah, I wouldn't say a lot
of them, but with the full moon we had earlier
this week, a lot of people get wahoo fever and
(08:11):
they you know, after the full moon, they're gonna go
wahoo fishing. So therefore there have been some caught because
there's been a lot of fishing gear towards the wall
who's We did catch one last Saturday night. We weren't
necessarily wahoo fishing. It just ad a outrigger in about
four hundred feet of water and we thought we had
(08:32):
a barracuda and it came up. It was about a
twelve pound wahoo, not huge, but big enough to keep.
So that was a very nice surprise.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Nice man.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah, I mean I remember last winter, and I'm sure
Benny you remember this.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
The wahoo fishing was like insane. I mean they were
getting them.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
I remember scrolling down my feed like right, I would
say maybe a little maybe more towards decemberish, but I
mean I was seeing everybody.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
I mean, guys on kayaks, guys.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
On the charters, they were all getting like you know,
the medium size wahoo right around the moon. So hopefully,
you know, as we get more into the winter here,
you know, we'll see a lot more caught, you know.
Speaker 8 (09:13):
So this is the time.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
So yeah, yeah, definitely, Benny, you got any questions, No, No,
it's about on. I mean my report almost sounds just
like his. Yeah, I sound like him in my segment.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Are you saying he's taking your information?
Speaker 8 (09:25):
Benny? Yeah, we've been. We've been trading secrets, me and Benny.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Oh okay, Well, Jim's the my you know, Jim's Jim
was always like, you know, we don't get the wahoo
like we.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Do up in Pompton, you know.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
And but I mean, if you're getting them there, then
it's got to be I would think better.
Speaker 8 (09:42):
Well I would suspect so. And also they target him
a lot, a lot more often up north as well.
But again there's been a few of them caught this week.
Whether it's due to the full moon or just dumb luck,
who knows, right, And another factor, you know, there's been
(10:03):
a lot of seaweed out there, not like where it's
just all over the ocean, but it's been scattered out
enough to make it a real paint of the butt
trolling your planers. So that's another factor. You know, if
you could go troll all day and not have to
worry about pulling your planer up every ten minutes to
pull the grass off, makes it a lot easier. So
(10:24):
we're pulling. We start out pulling the planer, and then
when we get into that grass and have to start
clearing it all the time, we just eliminate it because
the planer is a seaweed magnet. Yeah, and it makes
it a real job to troll the planers when they're
seaweed and we've had scattered seaweed the last few days.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah, yeah, have you seen that, penny? But yeah, I
mean I find it sometimes. I'll, you know, the seaweed
will drag down the planer and stop at the planer right,
and then you still got your leader behind the planer.
I'll drag that a little bit of seaweed on the
plane sometimes and then it still trips, starts thumping, end
up getting a wahoo in one of them real hatches too.
I see that happen a lot. But yeah, like he said,
(11:07):
once you're getting into those weedy areas, you're pretty much
mahi fishing. Too, so you're eliminating the planer for one
of being a headache, and two, all the bites you're
looking for are gonna come from the surface from the
mahi right right. And like he was saying about wahoo
fishing earlier too, you know, as far as Pompino, we
troll planers every day up there, ninety percent of the
charter boats. So we're gonna catch more wahoo year round
(11:28):
than them just because of that factor. A lot of
times of the year they're not doing that. They'll have
kites up, they'll be sail fishing. They have a better
saiale bite down there while we're still slow on sales,
and that just you know, makes us have more wahoo.
Seems like it's there all right, Well, there you going.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
We got the whole We got the whole thing on
the birds, and we got the whole thing on the.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Planer fishing, so I think we hit it. But thanks Jim,
but I appreciate.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
All right, we are back and we got Corey calling
in the snakehead eight time world record champion. This guy
is really the man when it comes to that stuff,
really exotic fishing in general.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
So Corey, how's it going? Brother?
Speaker 16 (15:55):
Pretty good? How are you guys doing, you know, man
live in the dream Man.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
We had our we had our fish camp and one
of the kids, actually Benny I got I didn't post
the pictures yet, but he caught like another monster large mouth,
another one.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
I mean, I don't know where these fish are. They're
all like fat and just big.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Man. I didn't weigh it.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
But what was the reaction to the kid when he
caught it?
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Oh, just like the first one, you know, we're all
screaming and just like, oh my god. So, I mean
it's uh, the fishing must be good out there for
you know, peacocks, exotics.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
So how's it going?
Speaker 16 (16:34):
Yeah, No, it's it's been good. Speaking of a large
mouth a few weeks or a few days. A few
days ago, we took my dad out there the Everglades
and we went. We got probably, I don't know we lost.
We didn't catch it any giant fish, but we caught
just a ton of fish. We got probably almost one
hundred fish that day. I mean we thought, wow, it
(16:55):
was one after the other. And it was on anything
you threw. I mean it was rattle traps, worms, any
sort of crank baits, I mean anything. It was just
especially between like twelve and like two o'clock that bite window.
It was just it was it was just out of
it was out of control.
Speaker 8 (17:14):
There for a while.
Speaker 16 (17:15):
It is double doubles up and you're catching fun.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
You're catching everything, right, like just peacocks and large amounts.
Speaker 17 (17:22):
We didn't really get any peacocks.
Speaker 16 (17:24):
We we just you know, we got a lot of
large amounths. We've got some mind sicklids, you know, mixed
in and you know, some other we get a boat
and every now and again, but the best just we're
just you know on fire there for oh for quite
a while.
Speaker 8 (17:37):
So it was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Do you think there's something to that, because you know,
it's funny.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
I've noticed we're not really catching that many peacocks. And
you know we're fishing for them at least twice a week,
you know, with the kids and stuff. So is it
just because it's winter time and you know it's a
little cooler, Like what do.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
You think that is?
Speaker 16 (17:56):
It's well, it's probably where you're where you're depending on
where you're fishing too, because it's they depending on where
they're setting up, along with where the large mouth are
setting up.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
You know.
Speaker 16 (18:04):
Sometimes you know the large mouth or maybe in this
section of the lake or canal whatever you're fishing in
the peacocks or more towards, especially this time of year,
towards like the bridge pilings and stuff like that. Yeah, so,
or you know, around culverts more so, it's it's just
and there. Sometimes you find them mixed up together, you know,
just all the pens. So sure, yeah, but I've I've
(18:24):
found that in the past. It's just they both fish
kind of set up differently sometimes or they you know,
you find them mixed up.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Yeah, you can see it any Corey.
Speaker 16 (18:36):
Yes, Yeah, we were. We were fishing out in the
Everglades in the reservoir that I go to. It was
we were catching big the big shed or we're not
catching them, but we were seeing them, and we actually
snagged a couple of them, which was kind of funny.
It never usually happened while we were you know, on
a rile trap or something where we were bad fishing,
we you know, hit them, we'd snag one or two.
(18:58):
But uh yeah, they're that's definitely been there though. We
found that for sure. So that's what those bigger fish
are probably eating.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
What's the biggest large mouth you got this past week?
Speaker 16 (19:08):
It was about five about five pounds, so not nothing giant,
but just it was that day. It was just there
was a ton of them.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
How about how about the snakehead bite?
Speaker 16 (19:21):
That's been good? That was that was very good as well.
That may change a little bit this week with the
major front we're having it, Yeah, coming in, that's gonna
slow down a little bit. You're gonna have just slow
down your tactics. But but that was very good. I
got the one day, I got one thirteen pounds and
uh on on a frog.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
How do you always get those fish?
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Is it just the spots or is it your style?
Like you know it, you know you know what to use,
you know the spot.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
How are you doing this?
Speaker 16 (19:54):
It's a little bit of it's a bit of it's
a bit of well it is spots, I will say,
there's definitely because you're not going to catch those fish
in any body of water.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
The back blacked out.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Yeah, that's that's like that freshwater thing. Now they all
like black it out or they'll put like because very
spot specific.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Yeah, you're in the ocean and your picture is a
sky in the background. No one knows what's going on.
Speaker 16 (20:19):
Yeah they see yeah, and you.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Have ten people there the next day. Oh gosh.
Speaker 18 (20:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (20:25):
C it is that way though. I mean you just
the way I've I've had it happen to me, where
if you don't do that and people figure it out,
they'll go and just ransack where you're fishing at. Now
there is a little bit of way of fishing too
for him. I mean right now, the last month it's
been easy because it's been a frog. I mean, you
just throw a top water and that's because it's just
that time of year. But yeah, with the front coming
through that we're going to have this front this week,
(20:47):
it's going to change that because then you're gonna have
to change it up. You're not gonna just throw a
top water all day, right blow it down, and.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Yeah, it starts getting colder. Those fish, they're a lot
less active obviously, the snakeheads, because I know when it's warm,
they're out, they're they're spawning, they're changing colors. They're very active. Yeah,
I gotta imagine they become very lethargic this time of
the year.
Speaker 16 (21:06):
Oh yeah, yeah, they they slow down. Yeah, that metabolism
slows down, so they they tend to slow down, and
you gotta kind of like put the you gotta put
the bait more in front of them. They're not going
to chase as far, so you gotta your strike zone
window is very small compared to what it usually is. Yeah,
you know when it's how it's it's been warm, you
know lately.
Speaker 8 (21:25):
So.
Speaker 16 (21:26):
That kind of the year.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
So you'll see them like a weight coming up behind
the frog looks like a boat right coming behind it
and on it.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Yeah, those big ones, man, I mean, it's just.
Speaker 16 (21:37):
Yeah, they're a different story. They're they're pile of fun.
They're just that's why I love catching them so much.
It doesn't matter how how many I catch, it's just
they're they're they're a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
You're using like medium heavy rods for those.
Speaker 16 (21:51):
Right, you're not actually heavy heavy Wow, I'm using heavy rod. Yeah,
because you get those big ones and if they're in
like really thick stuff like tree and down, you know,
a lot of obstructions you have to go through, you
gotta you know, you gotta use some muscle. Well, you
gotta have a good rod to kind of turn them
out of that stuff, those bigger fish, because they get
(22:11):
into there and they wrap up, they're gonna pop off
or they're gonna just rip their you know, lips all
you know, rip their lip or mouth, you know, whatever
they're gonna do to try to get away, you go
do that death rouse get away.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Plus you'll snap a cheap rod right on the hookset
with those fish. Oh yeah, I've seen it a lot
when we first started snakehead fishing with bass rods, and
you got to get a good hook set because they
got a hard mouth. Yeah, and you give a nice
hard yankee. Now you're fishing braid on your rod too.
Ros on the hooks that what you know what?
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Speaking of that what sized hooks? Are you using Corey
for them and using.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
The jaer.
Speaker 17 (22:47):
No?
Speaker 16 (22:48):
I mean well, I'm using a wide gap the Gama
gotsu e W G Monster hooks. It's a six to
oh or a seven oh. And it's a big hook.
I mean you think you're like almost shark fishing, but
it's it's it's a big hook because you got it.
And and the thing is it's stout. It doesn't bend,
it doesn't do any of that. And you don't want
that to happen because I've had that happen over the
(23:08):
years tackle tests and where they'll straight and you said
the hook and it'll straighten the hook.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Dude, So I never knew you used that size hook.
I never knew that because I've always got I guess
I got lucky, but I've always caught the ones that
I got on you know, a two to oh aw.
Speaker 16 (23:26):
Right, right, I mean, if you're right, you know, I mean,
if you if you're using a smaller bait, I mean,
of course you've got to use you got to use
a smaller hook for the size of the bait. But
some of the baits I'm using it like four four
and a half maybe five inches at times, So you've
got to use a you know, a beefy hook, you know,
to be able to go through that that frog or
(23:47):
whatever you're using you know that plastic.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
But I didn't think about that.
Speaker 8 (23:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
My mindset is.
Speaker 16 (23:56):
So uh if you use a good circle though, use
a good sir hook. I mean you could you could
get him as well, as long as don't snap or bend.
Knowing those things they they they they're they're tackle testers.
They'll definitely tell you whether it's good or not.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Oh man, that's crazy though, man, And what about any
other exotics before we got to go?
Speaker 16 (24:16):
Uh, you know, we we ran into some you know,
mind cichlids. You know, let'swapia here and there. But really
I didn't get into really any peak. A couple of
peacocks while I was out snakehead fishing, but nothing really uh,
nothing really else that I ran into anything crazy.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Any big peacocks at all.
Speaker 16 (24:37):
Not see I mean the areas I've been going, I
haven't really run into anything really really big. I know
the last few times that I have run anything with
like five pounds that you know, I have caught. But yeah,
I just I haven't. I just haven't gone out and
really really gone after him like I usually do or
I have in the past.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
So Hey, I wanted to ask question.
Speaker 16 (24:58):
That'll be that that would be good too. Once it's
cool down and cooled down, they'll start bunching up into
those schools around those bridges and stuff, and many calverts, Neil,
you can bang. You can whack them out pretty good,
pretty fast.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
So I got a question. I heard something this week.
I don't know if you've heard it, and since we
got Corey on, who is is a freshwater guy? Yeah,
something about the government and our governor setting up some
type of new pump system that is gonna pump water
from Lake Okachobe into the Everglades. Have you heard about that, Corey?
Speaker 16 (25:28):
I have, Yes, that's the new that's the new reservoir.
That's the ea A reservoir that they're building for Legokachobe.
They're gonna send the water from the lake to this
reservoir so they can store the water and then it
cleans it and then it goes out down to the
Everglades instead of sending it out through the Clusahatchie and
the Saint Lucy. Is that is that?
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Is that a good thing for you or a bad
thing for fishermen?
Speaker 16 (25:53):
Well, if they open that reservoir, that'd be right, because
the one that I fish is like right next to it.
And that's been amazing fishery for since it's been open.
If they open it, that's great.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Now.
Speaker 16 (26:05):
The bad thing is hopefully they don't send too much
water through the everglades and it floods. You know, it
doesn't get depending on how much that water drains, how
fast it drains, because you don't want it too high
because then it starts screwing up all the fishing out
there because it gets too high out there. So everything
gets all you know, everything gets spread out. But it's
not good for the wildlife either, because those those deer
and all that stuff they had the islands, if they
(26:26):
get flooded us they have nowhere to go.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Oh, that's at least restoring the natural flow though how
it used to be. Trying to open the water east
and west, and that's going to definitely help the salt
water guys along the coast because it's going to prevent
it right, that water getting pushed out and that's getting
them red tides every year now. Sure.
Speaker 16 (26:42):
But the one thing I do say, they wouldn't have
to do all this if they would stop spraying herbide
and stop spraying all the vegetation. They would have never
did that. They would have never did that. Then we
had the vegetation to clean the water, then we would
never have this problem.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
So and and they're still spraying. I noticed the train.
I got there really early one day for the camp,
and they were spraying this like blue gunk all all.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Over the place.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
And you're sitting there like, you know, I got kids
coming here. That can't be like good, right like that?
Speaker 16 (27:12):
Yeah no, And they say they and they say it is,
but it's not that they spoth do it for exotic plants,
but they're spraying everything and it's it's not good, and
it's I've seen it ruin things.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
So all right, Cory, Well listen, man, we appreciate everything,
and we'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Brother.
Speaker 16 (27:28):

Speaker 3 (31:18):
All right, guys, we are bat That was an awesome
report man by Corey.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Yeah you got a lot put in there. Yeah, it's
pretty active about that I've been out on the golf
courses a lot lately seeing snakeheads. The water's been clear,
so yeah, yeah, you're like, do you play?
Speaker 4 (31:31):
Do you play golf? Benny? Are you? Are you just
sneaking in with your fishing rod?
Speaker 2 (31:35):
I mean, I you know, you get one of those
extractable rods that you hide and bring in your bag
and if you're like on hold with some Canadians in
front of you going slow, you could pitch a.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Few are man, that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
All right, Well we got Captain Wayne Khan moving into
the how's it going, Captain?
Speaker 8 (31:53):
Hey?
Speaker 26 (31:53):
Everything is great, man, I'm looking outside.
Speaker 8 (31:55):
It's uh, well it's beautiful.
Speaker 26 (31:58):
Not a breath really nice man, nice tid to go fishing,
looks like to me?
Speaker 27 (32:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:02):
Man, so how is that? How's the fishing going?
Speaker 26 (32:05):
Fish has been all right? You know this is historically
for us. You know, we provide economical fishing for folks
that don't own boats. I mean, let's face it, look
what boats cost. Now, if you buy a twenty five
foot boat with twin motorzoner, you get to spend one
hundred and fifty two hundred thousand on it. I mean
a lot of people can do that. But party boats
cool thing about them. You know, you jump on the
boat fifty sixty bucks whatever, you get to go out
(32:27):
in the ocean for four hours. And I think it's
an important service that we provide definitely, so you know,
you know, it's something historically, I mean, I remember when
I first started, it was seven bucks a person to
go fishing, if you can imagine that, you know, But
it's slow right now. Folks are getting ready for holidays.
(32:49):
We're still at the leading edge of getting people out.
We want to get kids out. We want to get
families out, you know, fishing. Catching is declined, yeah, but
fishing hasn't. The interest in fishing people that have never
done things with their kids before. I mean, fishing is
a wonderful activity.
Speaker 20 (33:04):
You know.
Speaker 26 (33:04):
We just did last week. That's Tuesday, I guess it was.
We had a c grant cooperative effort with Overtown Youth
Center and a hockey club. We took about forty kids
out in the very first ocean fishing trip, you know,
and that's it's really cool to watch kids kids their
first fish. So, but what's going on on the ocean,
(33:25):
and what's happening is water's cooling down. Yeah, we actually
caught an eight or nine pound grouper and twenty feet
of water. The other you know, that day we anchored
fisher moving in shore. And if I could, if I
could direct guys that got boats that are looking for
something different to do and that burn a lot of fuel,
is either doing some shallow water trolling, which is awesome
(33:46):
for groupers and muttons as that water drops, you know,
you fish anywhere from twelve to twenty feet of water.
You control lip plugs and have great opportunities to catching
snappers and groupers now and as it cools off, they'll
come in even more, especially black ropers and nice muttain
snappers anywhere off downtown Miami, Soldier Key area, Elliot Key,
any any of that area as well. And no one
(34:07):
does it up in Lauderdale, which is kind of crazy.
That a technique that we that we used to use
for years, you know, But that's just kind of a
little tip as well as anchor fishing for yellow tails
is still it's still pretty good. We're catching yellow tails
really good right here off Miami. So great weather, good fishing.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
How about that you got fifty bucks?
Speaker 26 (34:28):
What's that? Mangrove slow down. Well, what happens is they
start spreading out. They're not on the spawning spots anymore.
That doesn't mean.
Speaker 8 (34:35):
They're not there.
Speaker 26 (34:35):
They just it's kind of like any kind of fish
that that accumulate when they spawn. You know, it's it's
still a mystery. They don't know why that a species
of fish can keep returning to the same exact spot
year after decades, and it's I'm thinking it's something like
the salmon thing. There's something chemically in the water, or
(34:56):
or you know, maybe they got natural GPS's and I'm
thinking that more so than you know. Then, you know,
we really don't know. People don't understand the intricacies of
what is living around us and how they navigate through
this world. And it's kind of cool when you think
about it, but you know, GAG groupers, it was their
(35:17):
downfall that they would return every year to the same spots.
By the thousands, and I remember thousands of GAG groupers
being on spots and what I would dive them. No,
it's crazy, man, there was There's there's four or five
spots here between between Hallendale and Key Biskaine that they
would just I mean, by the thousands, would come in
to spawn and then you disappear, kind of like Quberra
(35:39):
snappers down off q Largo. There's a wreck, one wreck
that they've been going through for sixty years now. There's
some other spots they come to as well, but one
particular spot would attract them. How's that happen? You know
it's going to be crazy, man.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
You know, like because I noticed.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
I know this is kind of weird to compare this,
but like my chickens, right, they'll pick a spot and
they'll like lay their eggs and then they keep laying
their eggs in that one spot, right, So it's like
there's got to be like some kind of pheromone thing.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
It could be a structure thing too, for a lot
of species, because even as fishermen, we know those spots
based on the structure, whether it's hard bottom, you know, right,
depending on where we're fishing.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
Yeah, I bet you. They don't turn it the same spot.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
In your yard. No, they turned everywhere.
Speaker 26 (36:29):
Well, I do believe there's a navigational thing built into
a lot of creatures. I'll throw something out there really quick.
That years ago, they released a twelve foot python thirty
miles north of the Tammiami Trail. It mailed around from
and they tracked it and they it mailed around for
a month or two up to the north and did
a bee line right back to where it was caught.
(36:50):
And they've done it a couple other times. And this
is a so called stupid steak and it just shows
you that nature, you know, it finds a way of
doing what it has to do. So it's it's pretty cool.
And the fisheries thing is is no different, no different
at all. So I've always been a student of what
I do, and you got to work at it, and
you got to think about what you're doing out there.
(37:11):
And for us anymore, it's about whatever the customer wants
to do. I had some negative feedback when we posted
a little short clip of we were catching. We were
anchored up right by Fisher Island because it was flat, calm.
The kids caught one hundred and fifty fish. They had
a blast, and somebody says, oh, what's this a party boat?
You know, like like screwing their customer or something. You know,
I don't understand why negative listen man negativity. Unfortunately, nowadays,
(37:35):
it's it seems to be very prominent that people would
rather throw negativity out than saying, hey man, that's cool.
You know they took twenty kids out on a birthday party.
They all caught fish, they all had a blast. Nobody
got sea said, okay, what's wrong with this picture?
Speaker 16 (37:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 26 (37:49):
You know, people, it's not about filling boxes anymore. Yeah, man,
you're not about filling boxes.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
I gotta say, like, in this online world where like
people don't have to face and can comment, I think
that changed a lot.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Easier for them.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
It's it's yeah, it's just it's easy for them to
post a comment, you know, of negativity.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
Hit and run, hitting run exactly. By the way, talking
about that, I saw sign this week that was funny.
Pizza pleases everybody.
Speaker 26 (38:18):
Ah, well, you know online online everybody can be six
seven two forty you know nobody, not many can be
I am, I am, and that's a fact. But am
I wrong there? You know everybody can be you know,
bigger than life and all that stuff, and then when
(38:38):
they shut off their computer they go back to be
in five foot, three hundred pounds exactly.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Whatever.
Speaker 26 (38:44):
But what I'm saying is it's not about living living
your life. It's about projecting something other than what you are.
I don't want to get into this political issue.
Speaker 8 (38:52):
Goodbye.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
Somebody wants your boat. If someone wants to get on
your boat, give out your.
Speaker 26 (38:57):
Numbers that marketplace. We're only charging fifty bucks for locals.
You cannot beat that anywhere for a four hour trip
in the ocean. You can't go to the grocery store
and get out of there without fifty bucks. Come on,
you grab your kid. You got a ten year old kid.
Kid goes for free. Other than other than driving a
bus around town saying free fishing. I'm not quite sure
(39:19):
what else I could do. It doesn't matter. I'm going
to stay on the front edge of this and improving
what fishing is to our community as best I can.
So Fishingmiami dot com. You can pay right online. You
see what we do. We do have our charter boat
up run and if you want me to come out
and go out and take you out and do some
fine tunes stuff. I got thirty seven foot toepaths with
twin caterpillars that I can do everything with. But that's
(39:41):
like my personal little ride. So we do everything man,
from chicken box pipefishing to sharp fishing, swordfishing, all that.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
Thanks Wayne, I gotta cut you off, buddy. We gotta
we gotta go to the next segment. All right, thanks buddy, All.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
All right, you want to do the blop? We got gym?
Speaker 3 (39:58):
Yeah, I'll do the blop blow.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Oh I did an implosion? Did you hear that? It
was like, dudey Jimmy with us?
Speaker 4 (40:13):
Jim I am, I'm here.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Are you going? Man?
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Good?
Speaker 28 (40:18):
It's it's been a phenomenal week or two. The lobsters
are everywhere, buddy, The lobsters are everywhere.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Guys them off the beach.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
Are they walking, gym? You know, I have not heard
a quote walk.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Okay, they don't even They gotta be walking.
Speaker 28 (40:39):
They gotta be walking, because here's you know, they walk
with me. We're probably sleeping. But guys are catching them
swimming off the beach, free diving down in fifteen feet
of water. Uh, all of Lauderdale and Pampino. It's really
really good. And uh I'm catching them. That's the strange part.
(41:03):
Eighty five feet, I've got tons of lobster. I'm like,
what's going on here? There's lobster at every depth. So
it's really really been special. Last weekend when we went out,
we went way north to Boynton del Ray.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
Good, good, good time.
Speaker 28 (41:18):
And again we're mainly actually kind of we're getting We've
got a lot of lopster lately.
Speaker 26 (41:23):
You know, and we're going, all right, let's fear some fish.
Speaker 28 (41:26):
So we did get a nice black grouper and and yeah,
they're they're kind of hanging around now, which is really good.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
But the visitibility is great.
Speaker 28 (41:34):
Gentle currents eighty degrees still, So I mean, if you
haven't dove in a while, get out there. This weekend
is going to be really really special. I dove Thursday
with Julie Higgs. Julie Higgs spearfishing. She is a world
champion spearfishing woman.
Speaker 8 (41:55):
Bad ass.
Speaker 28 (41:57):
I want to tell you she's really good.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
Now we just put my talk about it a little
bit like that though, Well, you know, she's pretty nice.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
So I tell you she's a.
Speaker 4 (42:05):
Really good friend of mine.
Speaker 28 (42:07):
Happily married now to Lewis, which is really great. And
they're actually down in the Keys right now trying to
spear some Waho off with some recks.
Speaker 8 (42:16):
Nice.
Speaker 28 (42:16):
Yeah, we got we got to do some scuba on
the Lady Go Diver, which is part of Dixie Divers,
and it was great just the really good crowd hunting.
Thursdays have been really successful. Everybody got their limit on
the boat and it was an easy limit.
Speaker 27 (42:31):
You know.
Speaker 28 (42:31):
It was like, oh, they're here, Oh they're here.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
No, they're over here.
Speaker 28 (42:34):
No, they're everybody all depths, which is really really nice.
I haven't seen that in quite a while. So, you know,
we've been working hard for our limits, but we've been
getting our limits, and it's been one here, one there,
and one there. Now finally they're clustered together. You're seeing
a hole. Oh there's ten, Oh, there's five, Oh, there's
(42:55):
It's been great, so man, I don't know the last
well again, and we kind of lined up. The cool
front came first, little cool front that we had came
through Mullet Run. They kind of know it's a migratory
thing that they're moving in. And the boat show. Yeah
I saw I reck at the boat show.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
Yeah, sorry to hear about that.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
The boat show hangout, oh yeah.
Speaker 28 (43:22):
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, so he and postseason of baseball.
Speaker 5 (43:26):
We can't forget about the postseason of baseball.
Speaker 28 (43:28):
These things are all happening h October, beginning of November.
I love it, really really good time to get out
and die.
Speaker 4 (43:36):
I'll be out this weekend. That's for Jim.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Jim. How about snapper? Yeah, you seen any snappers or any.
Speaker 28 (43:41):
Yeah yeah yeah, actually all kinds dog snappers. We have
been chasing some couberras, but they're smart.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
Wow.
Speaker 28 (43:51):
Yeah yeah yeah yeah on Rex. So yeah, that's been
pretty good. We may end up like tomorrow, just jump
in on some racks just because like even even though
it's eighty degrees, is starting to cool down a little
bit and the fish are coming in, so you know, hey,

How's it going, Benny? Pretty good? Pretty good. I don't
know if we got a winner yet. You know, Joe
can't get the number out. You ain't gonna get on
him too early. Man. So you got one of your
guys talking about the wahoo bite. Yeah, it's been I
mean always this time of the year. November October full
moon kicks it off. Yeah, you know, the October moon
was early this year, but it's still kicked it off
(50:20):
pretty good, especially in the Bahamas. Right, it should get better, right,
I mean the hot topic right now, So right now
till the you know water starts warming up again. I'd
say February. Usually by March it's done. Okay, you know
to tune to start rolling in.
Speaker 3 (50:33):
Speaking of Wahoo, there's another guy I know that does
really well with Wahoo.
Speaker 36 (50:39):
You know.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
It is Captain Sewan Rolls. Sewn Rolls. How's it going, Cap?
Speaker 8 (50:44):
What's going on?
Speaker 22 (50:45):
Guys?
Speaker 11 (50:46):
Ben?
Speaker 2 (50:47):
How's it going? Sean repping for pomp and No. Let's go. Yeah,
look at this. We got our school circle right here.
Speaker 29 (50:53):
I like it.
Speaker 37 (50:54):
Yeah, speaking of old school man, I've had this lifetime goal,
well not like I'm probably in the last five years
to really compete in a boats tournament in my kayak, and.
Speaker 8 (51:04):
I am doing it today.
Speaker 2 (51:06):
Really big dog yeah, fishing for cancer?
Speaker 37 (51:09):
Yeah man, all right, yeah, the big Dog Battle for
Cancer is today.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Okay.
Speaker 37 (51:15):
I did early entry was one hundred and fifty bucks,
you know, which is on part of Joe's tournament and
single big fish to win.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
Let's do it. You're out there drifting right now.
Speaker 4 (51:23):
What's the purse if you win? Sean?
Speaker 37 (51:26):
I think it's five thousand for first place.
Speaker 8 (51:29):
Nice.
Speaker 37 (51:30):
I mean, you can keep the money if I win
this one. I went bragging rights man, did.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
You bring your kayaks somewhere up or down the coast
where you think there might be some bigger fish. Are
you fishing? Pompino?
Speaker 37 (51:40):
So I started at sixteenth Street early this morning, and
I am in almost a commercial pier right now. I
just pedaled down south.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
Hey, woh who count?
Speaker 8 (51:48):
Man?
Speaker 2 (51:49):
Wah? Who count?
Speaker 4 (51:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (51:51):
I mean so you're doing like a long drift, I'm assuming.
Speaker 8 (51:53):
Right, yeah, yeah, definitely all right, and it is a
north kurt right, I hear plate north hen But.
Speaker 2 (52:01):
Okay, are they making you paddle enough time?
Speaker 8 (52:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (52:05):
Just the oh not bad.
Speaker 8 (52:07):
Yeah. Yeah. Back in the COVID days, I used to
do that for fun.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
So yeah, you know you're timing to your professional You'll
be right there.
Speaker 4 (52:14):
This is the only fishing show on the air and
online with live fishing reports with captains on the water. Yeah,
I mean I get better than that man.
Speaker 2 (52:24):
Yeah, yeah, good feeling.
Speaker 3 (52:25):
I mean, Sean, you've hooked up one time, it's like
a thing everything year we're live hooking up.
Speaker 4 (52:30):
But Benny drops the bombs.
Speaker 2 (52:33):
Benny's funny though.
Speaker 16 (52:34):
I got like.
Speaker 8 (52:36):
It was a big dog, fat cat. I think I
gat a thirty four pound king fish with one hand
while I was on the film. With the other hand,
that was probably my coolest moment.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Oh man, that's so cool. Why too, I'm excited for
Sean right now now that he's out there in that
tournament in a kayak by himself. I'm hoping you get
a big one. Man, it's coming any second. Hope.
Speaker 4 (52:54):
How many people are in the tournament you think, Sean,
I'm not really sure.
Speaker 8 (52:59):
They probably fits to seventy five. I'd say, just a
wild guess. I didn't even ask them, just guessing, and
they got a pretty good draw.
Speaker 38 (53:06):
So yeah.
Speaker 37 (53:10):
So I went out yesterday mainly bait fish, and I
told my way back and I got I got the
bite yesterday didn't stick, but there was a man I'd
probably say a sixty pound while hoo caught right out front,
first thing in the morning yesterday.
Speaker 8 (53:22):
So it's slow. But this time of year, man, is
when you get to them big bites. Man, it really matters.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
So sure, sure, let me ask, are you using the
secret weapon?
Speaker 8 (53:35):
So I'm putting in a big blue runner shotgun and
a ribbon fish down deep ribbon fish.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
I knew it. I knew it was talking about that
on the radio. I know, I know, But you know
what the cat's kind of out of the bag.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
I think we've talked about it a few times with
you know, the ribbon fish, and is that like a
Texas style that I was just going to.
Speaker 2 (53:53):
Say, I remember when the Texas guys came down and
had them and at you know, and it turned a
lot of them.
Speaker 8 (54:01):
Yeah, I think like North Carolina and SKA old school stuff.
I think it's a staple up that way, you know.
Speaker 2 (54:07):
Right, Well, you've been doing a lot of king fishing
on boats traveling around, so you're seeing it a lot.
But a lot of the local guys fishing the kayak
to ornaments they haven't seen that. So again, I think
it's a big thing on a kayak where it could
make a big difference for you.
Speaker 4 (54:18):
And are you saying this is this is like on
the down load. A lot of people don't don't fish
this way.
Speaker 2 (54:23):
Not to say it's on the download for the people
that know about it and people hear about it. But
you know, until you see it done, you see how
you got to rig up for it, you see fish
being caught with it, you're not really a believer yet,
you know.
Speaker 8 (54:34):
So that's the biggest thing. Yeah, the guys that really
don't hard to take that dog out and put that
ribbon fish down.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
If you're listening, though, give it a practice, because I've
been saying it for years between you, you know, talking
to Bobby when he started fishing ornaments with me. It's like,
you can only bring so much bait on your kayak, sure,
as many ribbon fish as you want. That's another factor.
And they're pre rigged correct, not necessarily know you want to. Yeah,
so how would you do?
Speaker 8 (55:00):
You got you gotta rig him yourself.
Speaker 37 (55:02):
He's rigging them like absolutely perfect is the key for
to work properly.
Speaker 8 (55:06):
If you're a little bit off, you're not catching fish
on them. They're spinning.
Speaker 2 (55:09):
They're twirling exactly just like any other It's got to
be spin. It can't be spinning. Got to be swimming
in a nice straight line, right right. Fishing for mostly
toothy critters with them, so you use a lot of
trouble hooks. It's a very unique way to rig it,
and there's a lot of ways to rig it. You
can rig them on cable wire, you know, titanium, so
there's a lot of different ways to rig them down.
(55:30):
And it's kind of evolved over the years, right and really.
Speaker 3 (55:33):
I mean only the big kings eat those, right, You're
gonna weed out a lot of the smaller fish.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
Yeah. Sean can tell you that he fishes on a
team where that's almost all they use when they're targeting
bigger fish, and he can tell you that it's weeding
out a lot of the smaller ones.
Speaker 8 (55:46):
Yeah, especially the benita up and jupiter in the summertime.
But we did catch one last year. I think we're
next to bending when we caught it actually, But yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:57):
Yeah, we're gonna weed out most of yours. You'll get
your random benita, you'll get kudas, But when the benitas
are thick up there, like you said, yeah, it's a
key to not have to have a spread out and
get you know, quads or five fish on in one
shot and they're all banitas. You're weeding out the benitas.
You'll go through a whole school of them. You don't
even get bit by a benita. And then you know
down rigger trips and you got a nice king on
(56:18):
so wow, can you get it? Can you get a
wahoo on that?
Speaker 27 (56:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (56:22):
Yeah, we've seen a lot of wahoo. I've never caught
a waho on one. Have you shown.
Speaker 37 (56:27):
I have not, but I seen that one ninety pounder
I think two years ago get caught on it.
Speaker 2 (56:34):
Yeah, it was a pump and a boat. Steve Miller
I think is ninety pound Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think
did they get the KDW that year too? They were
off on their mahi on that one, if I remember correctly.
Speaker 8 (56:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
Well, I also hear the mahi bites pretty good. I mean,
are you seeing anything out there with that Sean?
Speaker 8 (56:53):
I mean it's a west wind right now, so all
that good structure and weed line moved off. But there's
there's a good yesterday in the four fifty, so I
mean they're out there if you want to go for him.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
Any tuna around?
Speaker 8 (57:06):
Oh yeah, actually I forgot. I was told yesterday on
my way in from big fishing. I got covered up
in the black fan first thing in the morning. Nice
football size and good ones to eat.
Speaker 2 (57:14):
So oh that's good. Okay.
Speaker 8 (57:17):
We always get that late run here. So what that?
No trolling?
Speaker 2 (57:20):
Okay, you got them trolling? All right? Any salefish anything
like that.
Speaker 27 (57:24):
Not for me.
Speaker 37 (57:25):
But there's there's a few rolling through. A lot of
people are starting to catch them, and we get that
front coming in Monday. I think tomorrow is going to
be the day, Like tomorrow afternoon evening, before that front comes,
I think the bike's going to go off.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
But yeah, yeah, nice man, Any big kings.
Speaker 8 (57:41):
Hopefully today for me?
Speaker 2 (57:43):
Yeah, next couple minutes.
Speaker 3 (57:45):
Yeah man, Yeah, all right, Sean, Well listen, brother, good
luck in the tournament.
Speaker 2 (57:49):

Speaker 27 (57:52):
How you did.

Man?
Speaker 4 (01:01:52):
You want to give that number out again?
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Yeah, let's go. It's eight six six.
Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
Eight zero one.
Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
Now I'm just kidding, uh zero nine four zero. I'm
gonna read it one more time. Win the star Bright bucket.
It is full of awesome stuff Benny was just talking about,
like the rush remover. I mean that stuff will take
out the Yeah, it takes out the iron from the sprinklers.
I mean it's great. It's eight six six eight zero
one zero nine four zero. First caller wins the bucket
(01:02:22):
star bright Baby.
Speaker 2 (01:02:23):
If you don't want to call up, give it to me. Yeah,
someone call in and get it. So, speaking of Fisher Reports,
this is your segment. So what do we got? You
got something good for us today? Or what I got
something for us today? Wahoo, wahoo? We got what we got?
Benny and the jets coming in the background. Am I
going straight to it this time? I think we're already. Yeah,
I won't go straight to it. Yeah, No, it's uh,
(01:02:45):
the report's been good. I mean, like I was saying
earlier to you, you know, customers aren't there as much
as you know they usually are, so we're not as
busy this time of the year. It's slow season. Kids,
they're back in school waiting for the holidays. But the
days we do get out are very productive. The report's
been very good, like the diver like the dive drivers
got like Jim was saying, the water's been so clear lately.
(01:03:07):
It's like you go out there, you see that nice
clear water. Some of those real clear days do make
our bite a little tougher. Sure, when it gets a
little stirred up and you get the waves kicking, and
you know, then it'll be a little better. But yeah, man,
going on to the report this week. First off, the
sword bite's been epic. I mean everyone I know Captain
Tyler did a sword trip the other day. You got
a nice one only like you know, eighty pounds, smaller fish,
(01:03:28):
but he had another bigger one on that held up
the rod for a little bit. He fought it for
a little bit, pulled the hook and he also came
back with a nice, nice bag of mahi. So a
lot of these mahi lately. It's just nice to hook
a fish, see it jump and you know you're not
gonna have to measure it when you land it, you know,
keep it right away. Kind of the gas a little
more excited. So yeah, some gaffers, some big flippers. I
(01:03:49):
mean we target kings a lot still, so there are
always our bread and butter trolling planers, especially with the
bite a lot of the bite being in shallow this year,
like we've been hearing from a lot of the other
reports up and down the coast, so trolling them planers
in shallow. We're still seeing a lot of kingfish, more
on the smaller side. I call them juvenile kings. They're
coming up with yellow spots on them where they almost
look like big Spanish backerel. But I feel like those
(01:04:12):
juvenile kings the meats a lot better. I tell that
to the customers. So when we get a few keepers,
we'll keep them in the bag for him. You know,
I know you always ask about the tunas, Joe going
on to the tunas, like Jimbo was saying earlier, a
lot of the smaller fish, and like Sean said, right
before sun up, right after sun up, and right before sundown.
So it's always like, uh, you'll see little ripples on
(01:04:35):
the surface and it's just tiny tuna's busting maybe one
to three pound fish. You could get them on real
tiny feathers, drop back real far in your spread, sure
where they're picking up some of the deeper baits as well,
any sailfish around. Stuff like that. I mean for this
time of the year before having some good cold fronts,
which we see we're getting a good early cold front
right now, but the sailbite was good leading up to
(01:04:56):
this cold front. So I'm thinking with the cold front
coming this, you know, cool water pushing down besides the
wahoo turning on, these sales are really going to start
coming in big numbers last year was really epic. A
lot of the tournaments last year were record breaking with sailfish,
and I think we're gonna see something similar again. And
that's just me going off. What the amount of sailfish
that we've been seeing in the off season, springtime, summertime,
(01:05:18):
it's like they never disappeared this year. So I'm thinking
one cold front, they're going to be in big numbers
and hopefully give us some good action. Kind of let
me ask, let me ask you this, what do you
think has happened to the big kingfish BikeE? So, I mean,
I just feel like it hasn't been great in a while. Yeah,
the king Byite period for the past year or two,
(01:05:39):
i'd say has been a little slower than usual. And
for Pompino, we're not known to get the bigger ones
as far as like we could up or down the coast,
you know, mostly up north, but we do get a
good quantity of fish usually throughout the springtime and into
the summer. We got good schools of fish around where
even as commercial fishermen, we can fish locally from pomping
(01:06:00):
O up to Boca and catch enough fish to be
worth going out where this year, if you stayed local,
it was a battle. If you weren't chasing the schools around,
it was a battle, you know, between the commercial fish
and community. That's some guys that are talkative and we'll
share information with you. We're being a little more lockjaw
this year, and when they find fish, they guys aren't
communicating as much because it's few and far in between,
(01:06:23):
so you're not trying to give it away and have
twenty boats circle and your spread the next day.
Speaker 30 (01:06:27):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:06:28):
But you know this time of the year. Staying on
topic to this time of the year, though, I'm really
excited for the cool water, the full moons and the
wahoo and the sailfish. So that's pretty much always my
thing that I get excited about. And they're my two
favorite species the target. You know, my tournament team name
is who We Billing? Because I love wahoo and billfish. Yeah, yeah,
you know, it's that time of the year. It's their
time to shine. Let me ask you this, the swordfish.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
Do you think that the bite has actually picked up
with the swordfish because I feel like it dipped like
a year go, maybe two years ago. Then they got
that record one lance got it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Yeah, Lance's son.
Speaker 3 (01:07:04):
Yeah, he got it, and then Hunter got that, and
then now I feel like it's been getting better now.
Is that because less guys are daytiming well, all fish
coming spurts where you know, some years are hot, some
years are slow. Going off the consistent patterns, I'd say
this time of the year, there's always gonna be maybe
not as much quantity of fish, which right now there's
(01:07:25):
a lot of quantity, but you always get your bigger
fish this time of the year as well. So I mean,
besides Tyler catching one this week, I've been seeing between
social media and I got a lot of guys that
buy sword baits off me that are commercial fisherman. You know,
as a charter guy, we get a lot of Benitas, mahi's.
We cut the baits in different ways, and these guys
are going through a lot of baits. They're catching a
lot of fish right now. You know, as far as
(01:07:46):
a yearly thing, it is a pretty good year. I
feel like it started off slower. There was some slow
times this year, but it was kind of right on
cueue this year where the sword bites on right now,
if you got the.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Capability to do it, you got the gear to do it.
You know, even if you're an amateur, go out and
give it a try, because your odds are better right now, right,
I mean, I know, like Eric is not a fan
of sword fishing, I don't. I think the reward is
so big it's worth the wait, right Like, I mean, listen,
I've went swordfishing like three times, and every time, like
(01:08:20):
I've never been skunked.
Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
And now that I said that, if I go a fourth,
I'll probably get skunked. But I mean we've caught We
had days where we caught three. The one time I went,
we got four. I mean, there's some big swordfish out there.
Now this was years ago, This was like four or
five years ago, but I don't know if it's still
like that.
Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
Guys, it is the swordfish like the number one fish.
When someone catches that they take to the taxidermy.
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
And yeah, no for us, we well again going off charters,
we don't catch as many swords on charters. For us,
it's more sailfish. Yes, yes, swordfish are going to be
more commercial fished. I get people that call me for
swordfish charters have no clue what they're getting into. I
explain to them how the day is going to go right,
and then they realized they wanted to go catch a
(01:09:06):
sailfish or a marlin, and they just said the word
swordfish because that's all okay. So, you know, I get
it a lot with charters. It's not really a thing.
We're using electric reels. We're dropping down two thousand feet
with ten pounds of lead, you know, waiting for the
rod to do one little tap, and we're hoping for
If you get one fish in the day, it's happy.
You're happy. Sure. So a lot of people coming from
out of town, they want action. They don't want to
(01:09:27):
sit on the sword grounds and stare at one rod
tip and press a button. They want to picture themselves
fighting a fish that's jumping on the surface, backing down
on it. And when they think of swordfish, and that's
what they're thinking of, and that's right, right, So that's funny.
So they call you thinking like all the time, man,
and I say, oh, you guys know what you're getting
into with a sword trip. Have you ever swordfish down
here in Florida? Like no, but it sounds cool, all right,
(01:09:48):
Let me explain it to you. And I give them
my spiel, tell them what they're getting into most of
them back out, you know, back out because it's not
with their picture in at all. And it's kind of
how do you explain it to them again? Like pretend
I'm that guy. Yeah, we only got so much time.
But you know, a long story short, I'll tell you
pretty much like I just said. You know, let's say, hey, Joe,
you know, when you meet swordfishing, are you picturing you know,
(01:10:10):
sitting in a fighting chair fighting a fish that's jumping
on the surface. Like yeah, man, I'm like, so you're
probably thinking of marlin or wahoo. I mean, I'm sorry,
marlin or salefish to catch swordfish down here, Explain to
them that it's two thousand feet sixteen to two thousand.
Explained to them we're using electric reels. Given the option
to hand crank on the electric reel if they'd like to, right,
But just giving them the spiel, they realize they don't
(01:10:30):
want to do it. I almost talk them out of
it if I know they're not for it. Guys, by
the conversation.
Speaker 4 (01:10:35):
We got a winner, a winner Starbright winner on the phone,
and it is man, go to it, guys, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
So we got the winner. Well, we got to know
who the winner is to go to it? Yeah, all right,
who's this?
Speaker 27 (01:10:50):
Michael Ford?
Speaker 8 (01:10:51):
How you doing?
Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
Michael? Well, you just won a brand new Starbright bucket
or Steven. How much is that worth?
Speaker 4 (01:10:57):
It's a few hundred dollars value. Yeah, the best products
aid in the US of aid to clean your boat? Michael.
Speaker 15 (01:11:03):
Do you have a boat?
Speaker 2 (01:11:04):

Speaker 27 (01:11:05):
Yes, I do have a boat.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
Nice? What kind of boat? You got?
Speaker 16 (01:11:10):

Speaker 4 (01:11:12):
Oh it gets.
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
Bloody, it gets bloody. I think I'm friends with Michael
on Facebook? Right, we're friends on Facebook?
Speaker 27 (01:11:17):
Mike, Yeah, we are?
Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
Yeah, yeah, I know Mike Savage knows you and I
got the big Red. It's the red Maco, the red Mako. Yeah. Nice,
it gets extra red when he's fishing from all the
wells that it's red.
Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
You all know it's all bloody though.
Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
You know, well it's not gonna be anymore, right boocket right,
Oh look at that, Benny.
Speaker 2 (01:11:37):

Speaker 27 (01:11:51):

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):

we're back. We're talking about peacocks and all that crazy stuff.
But the guy we got coming on, he doesn't do that.
This guy's a killer man, Vinny, he hunted down for
Fort Lauderdale, Green Machine normal. I mean, this guy's diverse.
(01:16:52):
What you got for us this week? Vinny? What's so?
Speaker 8 (01:16:54):
Vinnie?
Speaker 17 (01:16:56):
What's happening you guys?
Speaker 8 (01:16:57):
Oh?
Speaker 17 (01:16:58):
You know?
Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
Man living the dream? Right man? How about you?
Speaker 17 (01:17:02):
I'm I'm actually not in Florida right now. I'm in Alabama.
I'm here for the I'm here for the Alabama versus
LSU games.
Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
So that's a big one man. All right, Well, how's
how was the fishing this past week?
Speaker 17 (01:17:20):
Fishing this week was pretty decent. I know you're going
to be excited with this one, but it seemed like
the Wahoo bikes kind of picked up pretty good. I
think it's because the obviously the moon, but we started
to see a lot of those small benitas on the reef,
and I know that those wall whos are eating those,
(01:17:41):
so I think that's why there was a good amount
of them caught this week out of for Ever Glades.
We had the writing conditions. Also we had the super
blue water south current, so a lot of wa who's caught?
Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
There you go, We're for him now he's playing music
to match the high where he's at. Oh I got you.
I'm like, whoa so Vinnie? All right? So you got
the wahoo. How's the king bite?
Speaker 17 (01:18:09):
Kingfish kind of slowed down a little bit from last week,
kind of getting towards the end of where we're starting
to see a lot of mullets. I feel like that
when the mullets show up, those kingfish are following them.
So we're kind of getting towards the end of that.
So the kingfish bike kind of dropped out a little bit,
but tuners in the afternoon, not big ones, but that
(01:18:30):
seems to be getting more consistent. And salefish bite's been,
you know, somewhat decent, scattered mahi's two all over from
offshore to in shore, so a little bit of everything.
Speaker 2 (01:18:41):
Okay, all right? How about you been doing any yellowtail.
I know that's your thing.
Speaker 17 (01:18:45):
No, no yellowtail. But I heard that the mutton bite
was decent with the moon we just had, and that
that front, you know, a little bit of a little
bit of mutton action. So I know it's that's more
a summertime thing, but they made a nice little appearance
this week.
Speaker 2 (01:19:02):
Okay, all right, Any any sailfish.
Speaker 17 (01:19:06):
Salefish has been good. Been getting more shots on the
troll than live bait. I feel like it's just a
little early to break out the kites, right. I think
probably the next few cold fronts here that'll be the
time to kite fish. But I've been getting at least
a shot or two every every trip on the troll,
so I guess you could say that's pretty pretty solid.
Speaker 3 (01:19:27):
Nice nice And what about mahi. We've been hearing there's
some nice mahi around, but it kind of scattered.
Speaker 17 (01:19:34):
Yeah, there was, Uh, there was a nice weed line
a couple of days ago, like almost out to the
swordfish grounds. I know the guys are getting a few
nice ones on there, and then there's been some on
the reef too, chasing the valley who's in close, So
pretty much anywhere you're going right now you can get
a shot at mahi.
Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
Very cool.
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
Let me let me ask you this, since you're kind
of that that yellow tail guy when you're going bott
fishing like that, what's just like your style? Because I
noticed there's a lot of people that kind of do
different things with yellow tailing. I mean, obviously we know
about you know, you put the chum out and stuff
like that, but what do you look for mainly when
you're when you're hunting those things?
Speaker 17 (01:20:15):
So you want to fish kind of like I like
to fish the third reef a lot because it goes
from seventy up to about fifty foot, so you've got
like a big ledge. It seems like the bait holds there,
and there's a lot of other stuff there. The only
the only thing is is that yellow tail fisheries kind
of more of a summertime deal, just because you need
(01:20:37):
those right conditions. You need that north current. For some reason,
south current anchored up it is just like the kiss
of death out here right just the way the reef
runs or something like that, the fishes don't come up
so okay. You know, in the winter, if you try
to anchor, you have a lot of north wind and
north tide. You know everything's going up towards the bow.
So okay, better to do that more in the summer,
(01:21:00):
all right, brother.
Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
Well listen banging report man. Yeah, Vinnie's very diverse. It's
not a I like that. He's matching the hatch. So
he's going by however the weather is that day. However,
the conditions are, what's been around, what bait's running. He's
gonna base his what he's fishing for based on all
those things. That's why he has so much good results.
You see, this guy's social media is constantly posting covers everything,
(01:21:23):
and again it's it's always matching the hatch for what's
going on at the time. So that's that's very key
when you're doing charters, man, because you know you're doing
one thing one day. Like a lot of charter guys,
ninety percent of them just troll planers, So the planer
byte slows down all of a sudden. It's a little slow.
You're not switching it up properly. Sure, your customers are
not reeling in as many fish, and you're not looking
(01:21:43):
as good as Vinnie. Right, Vinnia man, speaking of your charters, Vini,
if we want to get in touch with you, man.
Give us some ways to get a hold of you there,
some social media, some phone numbers.
Speaker 17 (01:21:53):
Yeah, you can look us up on social media at
YB normal Sports Fishing, or you can give us a
call at nine.
Speaker 2 (01:22:03):
All right, Vinnie, Well you're the man, dude. Thanks for everything.
We appreciate it.
Speaker 17 (01:22:08):
Yeah, man, have a good one you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:22:09):
All right, see your brother. Here's Johnny. We got my man, Johnny.
Speaker 3 (01:22:15):
Yeah, we're turning right back to the exotics. Johnny, how's
it going.
Speaker 5 (01:22:20):
Good?
Speaker 18 (01:22:21):
Good? It's uh, you know, it's another beautiful day out here,
and the exotic fishery has been doing good as it
kind of turns.
Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
Into this fall time of the year.
Speaker 18 (01:22:32):
So it's it's a good time to get out and
kind of beat all of the madness that happens from
now till April. You get a little breaking, you know,
in January, but you can get some really good, easy
fishing in this time of the year. And it's not
really so much as it is, uh used to be.
(01:22:53):
It used to be a big secret. Everybody used to
be like, oh, well, we'll just keep this fishing for us.
But more and more people are talking about how great
fall fishing is for freshwater fishing, especially as far south
as you know, Miami and as far south as we
are in the world right where it's still pretty hot out.
It's it's the fishing is incredible and all week big
(01:23:18):
catches of peacocks, snakeheads, clown knife fish, I mean all
across the board. Anybody that went out this week probably
did really well.
Speaker 2 (01:23:28):
And did you do Ida?
Speaker 18 (01:23:29):
You know that I I didn't fish Ida this week now,
but I did talk to a bunch of people that did,
and everybody crushed it. There was actually a couple of
boats that did over one hundred fish in six hours.
Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
What that's action?
Speaker 8 (01:23:44):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:23:47):
Wow? Using everything I'm sure right didn't matter.
Speaker 18 (01:23:50):
Just no, no, I mean, you know, most of those
charter guys on Lake Ida, they're just using one bait
and one hook and one type of leader and they
don't have to change it up the whole day. And
they're using a threadfinh shad, which is you know, the
native natively caught bait there on the lake. And uh,
you know the hardest thing with the shad is keeping
(01:24:12):
them alive. You know, anybody can go and throw their
cast net for him, but if you can't keep them alive.
I mean, that's the difference between catching maybe four or
five fish in a day on artificial out there and
over one hundred fish on live bait.
Speaker 2 (01:24:27):
Wow. Talking about those shot earlier, and it's uh, it's
always this time of the year when they come through
and it makes fishing so much more exciting, you know,
speaking they're tricky, Yeah, yeah, they are very tricky. Yeah.
But speaking of switching it up, Johnny, we were talking
earlier how this time of the year it starts getting
a lot colder, when these fish on the lakes are
getting lethargic and they're getting colder and they're not feeding
(01:24:48):
as much, there's no more shad around, Like, how are
you switching it up for that? How are you kind
of diversifying that?
Speaker 18 (01:24:55):
So lake i'da pretty much has shadowy year round. There
is a time after the winter spawn, like after wintertime,
where the water temperature is cold all winter and then
it finally gets back up to you know, into the
high seventies and almost eighty degrees where we'll get a
shad spawn and that is probably the worst time of
(01:25:17):
the year for shad fishing.
Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
And that is also the same time that.
Speaker 18 (01:25:23):
The Everglades is usually really good fishing when the water
level is low after we've had kind of this like
dry winter, hopefully dry winter. You know, everybody's grass is
starting to turn brown as it's starting to warm up
in the springtime, and.
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
That Everglades water is just low. So we go out
there and we throw jerk baits in top waters.
Speaker 18 (01:25:44):
And you know, almost any artificial that's a hard bait
will work, even some like soft plastic swim baits, you know,
but my go to is a jerk bait or like
a little top water spook or even a little popper.
And I fish that pretty much all spring.
Speaker 2 (01:26:04):
Now, if we get high water and there's no shad,
then that's it makes it really tough. And you either
catch bait, you catch.
Speaker 18 (01:26:13):
The small shad. You know, they're like an inch and
maybe an inch and a quarter long. And I downsize
my hooks, and I downsize my leader and everything.
Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
I normally fish with.
Speaker 18 (01:26:26):
A fifteen pound floor carbon leader and a number two
or number one octopus hook, depending on how you know.
I mean, it's a small hook to start with, but
it's a small bait. I'll go down to a number
six octopus hook and ten pound floor carbon and you know,
and it works. Those peacocks are not necessarily picky. If
(01:26:47):
they see something shimmering in a corner somewhere, you know,
close to where they are, they're going to go over
and investigate it. So we we kind of have every
every available option when it's come to using live bait.
Speaker 2 (01:27:01):
The few times that you you just flat out do not.
Speaker 18 (01:27:05):
Catch live bait, I use a variety of you know,
lures and flies. I mean, I got a few few
clients that are fly till they die only, and I've
got a lot of clients that just like to use artificials.
Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
So there's actually this.
Speaker 18 (01:27:20):
Company that I've been working with them for years. They're
really good people, and they make a bait called an underspin,
and that underspin it's basically like a small mino profile
and it's got a little bottom of it and you
can attach a small a soft plastic or you know,
(01:27:41):
something small to it just to make it look like
a super realistic live bait. And that is kind of
my go to when there's no bait. But that was
a very long answer for a short.
Speaker 2 (01:27:50):
Question that I hope people were listening because that's some
solid information right there. Yeah, thanks Johnny, We appreciate it. Brother.

Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
How's it going, Jen?
Speaker 4 (01:32:13):
Hey, guys, good morning morning.
Speaker 2 (01:32:15):
So I heard you got a new puppy.
Speaker 38 (01:32:18):
We got a little puppy. He's so cute. I'm obsessed
with him.
Speaker 2 (01:32:22):
I Eric would not stop telling us, yeah, puppy.
Speaker 3 (01:32:26):
He's like, you guys need to talk about the puppy.
So let's talk about that puppy.
Speaker 4 (01:32:31):
What kind of dog is it?
Speaker 38 (01:32:33):
He's a little King Charles Cavalier and he's ten weeks old.
We got him last week. He's like four pounds and
he is the best puppy ever. We're obsessed with him.
Speaker 42 (01:32:44):
He's so cute.
Speaker 2 (01:32:45):
Oh that's cute. Yeah, I mean I'll tell you, like
we have a dog. We have like we're dog people.
But I told Maria, you know, once Lily goes to
doggie Heaven, I think we're.
Speaker 3 (01:32:57):
I think we're done with dogs. I'm a chicken guy now,
I like I like the chicken.
Speaker 4 (01:33:01):
Chick chickens or foul Joe, the foul man.
Speaker 3 (01:33:04):
Give the chickens, give you, give you like eggs and stuff,
you know, and the dog you know, I don't know it.
Speaker 38 (01:33:10):
Just give you love.
Speaker 2 (01:33:11):
Yeah, it's not enough for you.
Speaker 38 (01:33:13):
It's a intangible.
Speaker 2 (01:33:16):
All over my artificial turf. It's uh yeah, so Jen,
we got uh some days this week we gotta wear
a sweater. Some days we can go back into a
tank toper wife beater. How's it looking out there?
Speaker 38 (01:33:27):
Yeah, you know, typical South Florida. You're from the sweaters
to take tops. It's awesome today, sunny, higher eighty four,
south winds around five not seeds less than two feet
Inner coastal water smooth, Tomorrow sunny, Heiner eighty five south
winds five to ten sees less than two feet. Inner
coastal water is a light chop, and the key Is
(01:33:47):
today sunny with a higher eighty four east southeast windsday
five knots. Seas around a foot near shore water smooth.
Tomorrow and the Keys light cancer showers, mostly sunny with
a higher eighty five southeast winds near five knots, becoming
veriable in the afternoon season around a foot near shorewater smooth.
And Florida Bay today east southeast winds near five knots
(01:34:08):
baywater smooth, and then tomorrow southeast winds their five knots
baywater smooth. It is an awesome weekend you guys are getting.
Speaker 2 (01:34:16):
Out on the water.
Speaker 3 (01:34:17):
Really, I heard that awesome And let me ask you this, Jen,
I heard there's another front behind this one that might
be coming through.
Speaker 2 (01:34:24):
Have you seen anything like that?
Speaker 38 (01:34:26):
Yeah? Like, uh, I think it's Tuesday morning. You guys
potentially could dip down into the low fifties. I wouldn't
be surprised if maybe areas a little bit more inland
could be in the upper forties for Tuesday morning, and
your high's only going to top out in the upper sixties,
(01:34:47):
so gotcha.
Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
Yeah, and one day later we could put the tank
top back on again, right, and then the.
Speaker 38 (01:34:52):
Next day you put your tank top tops.
Speaker 2 (01:34:56):
He's hilarious. Oh man, well, Jen, listen, we appreciate everything.
Speaker 3 (01:35:01):
And uh yeah, I'm excited for this colvid that's gonna
be during the camp too on Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
Kids are gonna enjoy that one.
Speaker 3 (01:35:08):
Jen.
Speaker 4 (01:35:08):
I looked at your website. I didn't see a picture
of your King Cavalier. I guess you have it somewhere else.
Speaker 38 (01:35:14):
I have him on Instagram and my Facebook page. He's
there right now.
Speaker 2 (01:35:20):
Sure he's on the live stream.
Speaker 4 (01:35:21):
We'll have to get him next time.
Speaker 2 (01:35:22):
Yeah, I'm sure Eric's all over that. But yeah, well.
Speaker 3 (01:35:29):
Yeah, all right, Jen, listen, we appreciate it. Thanks, Jeff,
all right, see you please.
Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
All right Up next, we got Captain skip Man the Keys.
I'm going to the Keys. I'm ready for this report.
I'm going there Tuesday. I got a wedding. Also, see
what skip got going on down there?
Speaker 3 (01:35:46):
Man?
Speaker 23 (01:35:47):
Nice?
Speaker 2 (01:35:47):
And I love this music. I can't wait to be
listening to it. Hey Bushwacker, Hey, skip. How's it going, brother?
Speaker 27 (01:35:54):
Oh, but I tell you what, I'm sitting here listening
to you guys.
Speaker 8 (01:35:57):
It was great.
Speaker 27 (01:35:58):
You got a lot of great information and there today
I don't know what about this Eric. He's he has
to takes a few lessons from you guys. He's got
lots of grace on the play hider and inch and
a half inch and a half baits and no size
sooks and all. We need more of that. But anyway,
how about Almarada? Up the keys here right now? It's
been slow this week. In fact, it is slow. I'm booked.
(01:36:20):
I haven't been fishing since last Saturday. I had a
great day for the tuna fish. But the makey is
still coming through here. Not alway's not always an indication.
You say well in the summer, look for the birds,
and I say, well to the birds going southwest northeast
big fish there. No, that's not the case. There's no
signs of there's no birds banging on the off shore
at all. That like Jim said this morning and opened
(01:36:41):
the show about the watch for the man of war
birds on the reef, that that happens. But that's uh.
You don't want to hang up and down the reef
looking for man of war birds or to find dolphin.
That doesn't happen all the time, but offshore right now,
like last week, we had seventeen dolphin, all between five
and twelve pounds, and the guys this week. I didn't
get out this week, but the guys get out. I
got reports last night for the guys go. I'm going
(01:37:01):
to be up to date on the show. And they
said to Mahi, just like you said, anywhere from from
the edge of the reef out there twelve hundred feet
of water. You don't know if you're going to find
any or not, but if you find him, you have
to worry about checking them for twenty inches or anything.
They're all well over that. These fish grow rapidly. They
go north to one side, they come back in another
size and it's great. And we also have the black
(01:37:22):
fin tuna bite this week. Was going to talk to
my boy Dave on the k K fort gi him
a little pup here and he had a beautiful catch
of black fintuna. He caught some yellow mahi and then
the end of the day. He likes doing what I do.
I like if I have all the fish out one
like the eleven twelve one o'clock. Say there's enough tune
enough mahi is something like that, and it's still got
some time. I like to sitting up on that reef.
(01:37:43):
I have a box that chum out. I put it
out the night before with the oat. We mix it
up and sit on a spot seventy eighty ninety foot
of water and end the day with some yellowtail, and
I put the kite out way. If you have the
breeze and you catch something out, a go off the
kite sometimes. So that's how we're fishing on the road.
And most other guys do exactly what I do. They
go out there and with having yellow tail as a
(01:38:04):
fail safe because we can catch.
Speaker 16 (01:38:05):
A year around down here, we really can.
Speaker 27 (01:38:07):
So they's more comfortable now this time year than in
August at ninety five degrees. So we got a thing
going down here, and I'm pretty pretty proud of it,
tell you the truth. I got some good fishing in
front of us, too.
Speaker 2 (01:38:18):
Nice skip. I'm gonna be down there next week. Those
little tuners, are they out on the humps or been
finding them?
Speaker 27 (01:38:23):
Just yeah, yeah, Now I'll tell you what they are
in the humps. But the better humps are the four
or nine hump that's down off of a clusive cove.
It's where are you leaving out of? Where are you
leaving out of?
Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
I'm going to be fishing right around Drop Anchor Resorts,
so I'll be right there by alligator light.
Speaker 27 (01:38:40):
Yeah, well you're about five minutes from meeting me. I'm
over night. Let me make an announcement. I'll tell you
how to find that spot I want. We're on a
new boat. We got the Papa Wahoo. We bought that
six months ago over three waters. Used to be hot,
they out and now we're introducing our new boat. Used
to be called the dog Outs so wahoo to it's
being wrapped. It started to wrap on it. Yes, today
(01:39:00):
people don't know what that means. That means I'm putting
a big old plastic look on all around the boat.
Speaker 26 (01:39:05):
It's really neat.
Speaker 27 (01:39:06):
It looks like O Wahoo and it's gooed wahoo too.
And it should be done today and we're getting back
in business next week. We have fifty four hatteras. We
have with two fifty four hatterresses now one at holiday,
yeah holiday, I would quote free Waters, and the other
one is here at will Harbor where I've been here
for fifty seven years. So look me up there and
I'll give you my phone number before we leave it,
because Eric never asked for that either. But anyway, if
(01:39:27):
you leave it out of them, this.
Speaker 3 (01:39:30):
Is great.
Speaker 2 (01:39:32):
That's what I've seen your names hanging on those signs
down there for years. Man.
Speaker 4 (01:39:37):
For those who don't know, Skip Ray Dean is a
legendary captain. He's uh, he's fished and and and now
hung out with some of the biggest stars, including Jimmy Buffett.
You've got all kinds of good stories. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:39:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 27 (01:39:51):
Mickey Mado was my favorite baseball player in my idel.
I didn't like the Yankees. I love the Brooklyn Dodgers,
but Mickey is my favorite Yankee.
Speaker 7 (01:39:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 27 (01:39:59):
I had him out on the boat too.
Speaker 26 (01:40:01):
He's kind of alleviated on the bridge with oh yeah,
Billy Martin Mickey.
Speaker 8 (01:40:06):
Mickey went to.
Speaker 27 (01:40:06):
Sleep on the bridge and Billy caught a forty pound
blackfin black grouper and also a sail that day on
the kite. So I got plenty of stories. But anyway,
if you're coming down Almarada, stop by Whale Harbor.
Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
Give me a call.
Speaker 27 (01:40:20):
You need my phone number, and you give me a
call and we meet up for a cocktail or something
that I like to meet you. So there you go.
If you leave it out of where you're leaving out,
if you run about one hundred and fifty one hundred
and fifty degrees, and it's about twenty miles from where
you leave it out of there, and it's about about
one hundred and fifty degrees, and you'll see the boats.
Most of the Button Mary boats hang out down that way.
(01:40:40):
We have the Armorado Hump that's straight out of Whale
Harbor where I'm not fun. This fish is not that good,
not near as good as the four or nine. If
you ought to venture down to the forty three, we
call it. That's up a marathon another great spot. So
there's a spot for you to go. Kit some black
from two and how's that?
Speaker 2 (01:40:56):
Yeah, I appreciate that, man. I definitely know about the
four O nine in a Lamarad obviously robs a little
closer for me there. But I'll definitely come check you out, man.
And like I said, I definitely yeah, I want to.
Speaker 27 (01:41:08):
I want to say you the new boat the Wow
who too. It's they're wrapping it right now. They probably
just started when the thing come up. Anyway, you want
my phone number, sure, I'll give you my phone number.
Speaker 2 (01:41:17):
A hold of you social media phone number, give us
anything since Brandon, don't let you put it off.
Speaker 27 (01:41:23):
Hey, I got to take advantage of you, guys. Right,
I got a chance. Three O five four eight one
five to one five one, give me a call. I
just do all the web stuff, but the Papa Wahoo
and a while who too are up there. You can
look into all the ingredients. Those boats are worth and
so forth, and so give me a call again. Three
oh five four eight one five one five one all right,
And that's my phone number. And I love to talk
(01:41:45):
to you. If you want to go fishing, I love
to do that too. So thank you very much, guys.
Speaker 2 (01:41:49):

Speaker 44 (01:47:25):
I've been wanting to try out the Live L four
expedition the board.
Speaker 4 (01:47:29):
Live and an action.
Speaker 13 (01:47:30):
I see what you did there, dad jokes.
Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
I like very nice.
Speaker 4 (01:47:34):
Yeah, I like this board.
Speaker 13 (01:47:35):
Cat take you away the Live L four Expedition. This
is the perfect gift intend to.
Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
Mom or my boyfriend mister bo. Listening this style board.
Speaker 42 (01:47:44):
It's super unique compared to your traditional stand up paddle
ward because it's.
Speaker 2 (01:47:47):
Got this Catamoran style hole.
Speaker 42 (01:47:49):
Do you notice a hollow core construction on it?
Speaker 8 (01:47:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 44 (01:47:52):
The design with the two fourteen foot pontoons and the
thirty four inch wide platform are your bread and butter
for insane disability and so much room for activities yes, I.
Speaker 2 (01:48:02):
Had to throw the step Brother's movie joke in there.
Speaker 42 (01:48:04):
There's actually eight feet of deck space on the Live
L Flour stand up paddle board. There's plenty of room
for activities. And with all this space, you're gonna want
to be using this tellboard for yoga, fishing.
Speaker 2 (01:48:17):
Do you name it?
Speaker 42 (01:48:18):
And you know Nagle Ventures has every single attachment piece
that you could imagine.
Speaker 44 (01:48:23):
To hold all of your near secure kat Does the
Catameron style houll help with making it easier to paddle?
Speaker 42 (01:48:29):
Yeah, it definitely does, Johnny. This feature maximizes the buoyancy
and it really reduces the weight to volume ratio.
Speaker 2 (01:48:36):
The large tunnel on the whole.
Speaker 20 (01:48:37):
This minimizes the.
Speaker 40 (01:48:38):
Surface area on the water, which.
Speaker 42 (01:48:40):
Allows the L four Expedition to slice through the water
with more speed in comparison to the many of the
racing boards that you've.
Speaker 2 (01:48:46):
Got on the market today.
Speaker 44 (01:48:48):
I've seen multiple people on these boards before too. Didn't
you sake a hold of just seven hundred pounds?
Speaker 2 (01:48:54):
Uh yeah?
Speaker 42 (01:48:54):
And get this the Live L four Expedition It only
weighs sixty five pounds.
Speaker 13 (01:48:58):
Crazy buoyancy for how light it is.
Speaker 42 (01:49:01):
This is the perfect board to throw in the truck
head to the beach and go full angler mode.
Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
If this board goes missing from the toy Chest, it
was not me. Huh yeah, sure.
Speaker 42 (01:49:10):
Thanks for watching another episode of the toy Chest segment
on the week Fishermen on Fox Sports Night foury am.
You can catch us next week on Saturday Mornings from.
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
The morning. All Right, boards sound impressive. Du That boards
pretty sounds like you gotta see someone in one of
your kayak tournaments out there on that thing. I know
it's eight hundred pounds. You can put a live wheel
on that thing. That's pretty sick.
Speaker 4 (01:49:33):
A heavy person is a nice looking board.
Speaker 2 (01:49:35):
What you stand up on that? Yeah? Oh yeah, that's
not me sitting down in the kayak having back pain.
Maybe I can get back out there on that thing.
Oh you think one. Yeah, they got the best toys, man,
They're at Nautical Yeah yeah, man. I can drive by
there all the time when I go to fifteen Street Fisheries,
and even I got to get a Starbright bucket from
there recently, and I stopped in and it's like a
(01:49:57):
candy store for big kids, you know, big toy store.
Speaker 4 (01:50:00):
Demonstration of all their toys at the Fort Lauder International
Boat show and the Aquazon and it was really nice
as well.
Speaker 2 (01:50:06):
Yeah yeah, I heard. It was like just they were
killing it there.
Speaker 5 (01:50:09):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
Don't they have a devil thing right out back like
a body of water where you could go test some
of their things right out back on the location.
Speaker 8 (01:50:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:50:16):
Yeah, they got to try it and buy it. Thing
they got going on with the kayaks and all that
fun stuff. So yeah, man, I mean we've been with
them now for almost twenty years.
Speaker 2 (01:50:27):
Isn't that crazy? Yeah, that's crazy. I got some of
those big fake checks back at home, they say nautical ventures. Yeah,
from your tournaments. It's just a long time, so good time.
So how was Vegas? I gotta know? So Vegas was fun?
Speaker 4 (01:50:38):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:50:39):
And speaking of Vegas, shout out to my buddy who's
getting married down in the Keys next week, Anthony de
bell Is Mary and the love of his life, Jeanine.
He just had a beautiful little baby, Sonny. But that's
why I was in Vegas for the bachelor party. There
was five of us. If you ever seen Hangover, yeah,
Hangover had nothing on us.
Speaker 4 (01:50:55):
Now, it was an When you went to Vegas. Eric
tried calling you for report and you were gone, dude,
And you know, how was that party brow that.
Speaker 2 (01:51:03):
I was up? I was up and you know it
was whatt four am? Vegas time is seven am here,
I'm on at seven oh one. I was in the
casino at three o'clock, so I said, oh, at like
three point thirty, I went to my room, saying, I'll
go to the room, I'll get the call and then
I'll go to bed. Right. I didn't make it, man,
I didn't even hear the thing ring. I was going
to give such a good report, and you know what
(01:51:25):
I was fishing for in the Vegas strip. I know
there was blondes, you know, show girls through bets.
Speaker 4 (01:51:30):
I was going to give my little report. But what
do you play at the casino, Benny?
Speaker 2 (01:51:34):
So I mean, I'm not a big gambler. In Vegas
was a little different because I was in Vegas. Typically,
if I do any gambling down here at strictly Texas
hold Them, I feel like you're not playing the house,
You're playing other people. You have a little bit of
control over your money. But in Vegas, I was splurge
and I was playing Ultimate Texas hold them against the dealers.
I was playing blackjack. You know, I tried to play blackjack,
but they catch me counting on my fingers. I can't
(01:51:55):
keep up with the table. Oh wow, yeah, so it's quick, right,
it goes quick and yeah, and I'm sitting thinking and
I feel like I'm holding up the table. But I
think they can't give you looks sometimes. But people in
Vegas are at least when you're they're being friendly, are
very helpful, and you're allowed to tell people what to
do in that game. So I always look up to
the dealer, like what would the book tell me to do?
Or my buddy Anthony. He'll get mad at you, though,
(01:52:15):
if you you know who's getting married the bachelor. If
you make a bad move in playing blackjack, he gets
mad at you, almost like if you miss a gaff
shot fishing with me. The reaction, it's like, you don't
even want to be on the same table with him,
but you know we can, uh.
Speaker 3 (01:52:28):
And that trustes you out even more because now you
don't want to get You think you're losing money.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
You just lost him money. The pressure this man when
it comes to money and stuff like that. Yeah, I'm
not I don't gamble, man, I I yeah, I hate
trying to gamble my heart earned money.
Speaker 3 (01:52:43):
Yeah, well, I just feel like it's always rigged against you.
It's it's like figure out the.
Speaker 2 (01:52:49):
Casino games are rigged against you where you're playing the house.
That's why I like Texas hold them. It's not rigged
against you. The house is hosting the game and they're
taking a small rik. You're playing the other people on
the table, so you're advantage. It is the same as
everyone's on the table. You're playing the person, you're playing
your cards. That's a totally different game. So I that's
why I try to stick to that. I learned to
play that over the years. It's not so much gambling
(01:53:10):
for me. I don't drink. I don't party. So a
lot of guys could go out spend two three hundred
a night of drinking. I'll go spend one hundred and
fifty on a poker tournament and sit there for four
or five six hours and possibly win two grand.
Speaker 17 (01:53:19):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:53:19):
So you're not having a cocktail or anything. Nah, I
don't you know. I'm a fifteen day out the year drinker.
When I go to the Bahamas, I'll drink some clicks.
This weekend, I'll be drinking in the keys. The de
Bella family and the Benton family are gonna be big
drinkers down there. It's gonna be a big party down
in the Keys. So hopefully when I go visit, skip
to say hi, You're gonna oh god it. I'm gonna
(01:53:41):
be right down the street.
Speaker 43 (01:53:42):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:53:42):
You see when I'm down there, the little jogging route
I take when I'm in my workout mode. I jog
over the bridge right by his marina. I stop in
the marina. See his sign hanging on his boat. Look
at all the boats, try to talk to people on
what they caught that day. And I jog back. So
I'm gonna make it a point to go see him.
Speaker 4 (01:53:56):
You guys got a rap man.
Speaker 3 (01:53:57):
That's cool, all right, guys, listen, we have a banging show.
We had a lot of fun. Benny, thank you the man. Dude,
appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:54:03):
Guy Steven, thank you so much for helping out. We
did it. We pulled it off. We made it through.
I think it was I think it was great. Dude
went smooth before bumps in the road.
Speaker 4 (01:54:13):
Yeah, yeah, we're we're gonna tattoo a phone number of
aside from the.
Speaker 2 (01:54:17):
Phone number stuff.
Speaker 30 (01:54:19):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
Geez, guys, it was good. Yeah, yeah, no, it was good,
pretty smooth.
Speaker 3 (01:54:23):
