Speaker 1 (00:02):
You got anything?
Speaker 2 (00:03):
No?
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Uh, so this is unscripted with JT. Bosh. Unscripted is
just another word for saying unprepared. Should we apologize an
advance or Okay?
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Well it's been a while since we've done an episode
of Unscripted. I've really not had much to say, which
you know, you think if I do a podcast, I
would keep it updated. But no, I do have a
reason to talk today. Thomas Rhett is on with me,
and Thomas, if you didn't know, is working on yet
another number one song. He has a huge tour coming
(00:38):
in twenty twenty five, a house full of children, and
he's going to be doing a Vegas residency. And he
and I are both girl dads. We've known each other
for years and years, so it's always good to talk
to Thomas Rhett. How are you?
Speaker 2 (00:51):
What's up? Brother?
Speaker 3 (00:52):
You know I've been told I had seven minutes in
heaven with Thomas Rhett. Oh god, okay, I made that up.
I only get seven minutes with you, so I figured
why I have some fun.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
That's right, Come on with it.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
This is unscripted. It's my podcast, so you get to
talk about anything you want.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Okay, what would you like for that to be.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
So, how have you been. It's been a long time.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
It has been a minute, dude, I've been good.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
This has been just kind of wrapped up our tour
and getting ready for to see Amazing. Get ready. We
have a little Vegas residency we're doing in December, so
we're kind of getting geared up for that, and so
between all that and raising babies. Man, our schedule is packed.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Why would you say a little residency in Vegas? That's
kind of a big deal.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
It is, but it's four shows. That's why I'm calling
it a little Vegas residency. I'm kind of getting my
feet wet with it, you know. I know, Luke and
Miranda did like thirty or forty shows, and I just
wanted to see kind of what it was like, and
so we kind of did four. We're doing four in December,
and maybe there'll be more next year. We'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
I think this is a cool trend with a lot
of artists doing that, not just country. Go where the
entertainment is and you come to us.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, that's right, that's right. Yeah, I've gotten to see
you know, I mean, obviously a bunch of certain days
of lay performances, but I've I've seen Bruno Mars there
a couple of times. I got to see Miranda, I
got to see Luke and it's just a I love
how you can kind of do whatever you want in Vegas.
You're going to get to put your own little show together.
So we're looking forward to it.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Are you going to the casinos?
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Man? Maybe once while my wife is there. I don't
gamble unless my wife is there because I feel like
I just lose money, and so I just I will
wait for Lauren to get there and we'll play some
craps and call it today.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
So the new single, beautiful as you written about your
wife obviously coming up on number one.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Congratulations, thanks dude, and I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
So how many does this make?
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Well, if it goes number one, it'll be my twenty
third number one song.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Yeah, nartally, I mean, and you're young, you're still young
to have that many under your belt, that's quite an accomplishment.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
It is. I mean, I can't believe it. I really can't.
But you know, I feel like I've I've had a
lot of you know, just a lot of luck and
a lot of a lot of great supporters, you know,
from the country music radio scene. And yeah, man, it's
it's kind of shocking that we're talking about twenty three
number ones, but I feel very blessed about it.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
You've been able to do some unique songs though after
you got your big heads, for sure, because you know,
Vacation was obviously, you know, a stretch.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
It was a huge stretch, but.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
You needed to have those big number ones to be
able to release Vacation and have not just the radio
community but your fans go, oh, I get it, this
is cool.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, dude. I mean, Vacation was one of the only
few songs of mine that I put out as a
single that did not go number one, but a song
that you know, that we still play to this day. Like,
I think it did its job, you know what I mean.
So I think every now and then, man, you got
to put songs out that that maybe maybe are not
like number one radio material, but something just that continues
to kind of just set you apart a little bit.
And I think that that song was definitely that song
(03:34):
for me.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
I'm going to say it was Beer with Jesus for me.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Absolutely, another song that was not like a number one
on the radio, but a song that like definitely kind
of set me apart from the pack, you know, and
kind of showed more of my singer songwriter side. So
I think I think every song's got a mission, every
song's got a purpose, and if they're hits, that's great.
But if they're not, hopefully they hopefully they got more
people that want to come to your shows.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
I remember when that song was out, you and I
actually talked about it. I was in Austin at Case
one and were you were, you know, not the happiest
person in the world because a lot of people were
taken I guess they were offended by the lyrics, and
I didn't find it offensive at all. I'm not a
hugely religious man, but I would think sitting down and
having a beer with Jesus would probably be one of
(04:16):
the most fascinating things you could ever do in your life.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
I would have to agree with you and for you to.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Go and write that into a song, and it was.
It was probably some of the most brilliant songwriting I've
ever seen.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Man. Thanks for saying that. Man, I appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
I believe that because I'm I'm just a huge fan
of the storytelling, which is obviously why I love country music. Sure,
there's an artist out he hasn't done anything in years.
I don't know if you've ever heard of a man
named David Beerwald.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I have not.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
He wrote Cheryl Crow's first album, Tuesday Night Music Wild.
There's a version of his album Bedtime Stories floating out
there that you can get where he tells you why
he wrote each song before he sings the song.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
I'm gonna check that out for sure.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
You know, I couldn't write a song to save my life.
But for somebody who can write songs, I've played it
for other artists who Christian Bush from Sugarland, he knew
who David was, and I had a version of that
album and I gave it to him and he texted
me a week later and he said, this is mind blowing. Lindsay.
How was another one I gave it to. Yeah, So
if you get a chance, David Bearweald, it's called introduces
(05:17):
Bedtime Stories.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
I will definitely do that.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
So how are the kids?
Speaker 2 (05:21):
They're good man? They should grow in like weeds.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Wow. Yeah, I just saw one celebrated birthday.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yep. Got a nine, a seven, a five, and a three.
So we're we're a full house.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Bro all right, I'm gonna ask you because my daughter's
about to turn seven going on seventeen.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, oh yeah, that's how mine are two. The attitude,
it's insane, it's insane. I literally told my wife last night.
I was like, sometimes watching my seven year old storm
off is like watching like a typical movie where the
kid just storms off and slams their door. I'm like,
how did we get How are our kids so dramatic?
And my wife's like, look at you, and I'm like, oh, okay,
(05:57):
so that's how they became.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Oh they learned it by watching you, dad.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
She got this morning with something about her shirt and
the mouth came out, and you know, I don't believe
in hitting children. I understand. I don't believe in it.
I'm and I just I snapped. And she doesn't like
it when you yell. She cries when you yell, Right,
I was like, well, yes, but the alternative would be
smacking you in the back of the head, and I'm
not going to do that, So be glad. I'm just yelling. Right,
(06:27):
So are there plans for more children?
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Who knows? Man, We're kind of we're testing the waters
out we'll see. We kind of we're in a sweet
spot right now, but yeah, we'll see. Man, who knows
what the future holds. I think it'd be cool. I mean,
when I turned sixty five, I probably a doubt that
I'll ever like wish that I hadn't had more children,
and so you know, I'm I'm kind of looking more
into the future, like what do I want my you know,
(06:49):
Thanksgiving table to look like when we're older? And I
think a lot of kids would be really awesome.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
I love that. There's a video my wife sent me
and it was a guy talking about raising his daughter
and he said, think about the most frustrating moment with
your child, the one that just sent you over the edge,
and then stop and imagine that you're eighty.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, and you want that back exactly. That's a really
good perspective.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Yeah, it was simply amazing. When I saw that video,
I cried, big woosy, girl dad, that happens.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
That's what happens when your girl dad, I think.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Man, So talk to me about the twenty twenty five tour.
What are we gonna see from Thomas Rhett?
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Yeah, man, we just released all the dates a couple
weeks ago tours called Beteran Boots Tour. I've got Tucker
wet Moore out the Castello's and Dasha, so it's going
to be a head of a.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Time Tucker wet More Wow.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah. There's so many artists in the last couple of
years that just burst on the scene, you know, with
giant songs, and Tucker was one of those and got
a you know, a top twenty single called wind Up
Missing You and just dropped an EP and I think
it is going to drop a record early next year.
So I can't wait for him on the road with this.
It's gonna be exciting.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
So what outside of bands that are touring with you
or artists that are touring with you, are you're seeing
new that's coming up, Because I've got a couple that
I like and I want to see what you think.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Yeah, I mean there's a lot of you know, more
like folk Americana singers that I'm loving right now. Like
I love this new kid named Wyatt Flores. I love
this new artist called Sam Barber. Ella Langley is crushing it.
I love this new female artist nam Lauren Watkins. There's
just a lot of good music coming out of Nashville
right now.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Have you checked out Gavin Adcock? I have, Yeah, there's
something there. He's rowdy.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
I just it reminds me of Hank Williams Junior back
in the day.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Absolutely, or the first time now for the modern generation,
the first time you heard.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
The Chief, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
And I'm fascinated by seeing artists like Ella Langley or
Gavin Adcock and I'm watching where they're selling out in venues,
oh yeah, fifteen to two thousand seat venues with no
radio airplay. And as a radio guy for thirty six years,
I'm going, hey, we're missing something here for sure.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
There's just so many ways to get your music heard today,
you know, and there's there's a key huge, like kind
of underground mostly young, you know, eighteen to twenty three
three year old kids that are finding all this music
and kind of telling the world like, hey, y'all are
missing you're missing out if you don't know these artists.
And so I think it reminds me of when I
was like in high school, you know, discovering bands that
no one knew about. It was like the discovery process
(09:17):
was like the funnest part of it all.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
And you're a lot younger than me, and I remember,
you know, Discovery for me was MTV.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Yeah for sure.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
With Ella Langley, it was amazing because I saw I
had a lady who's in her late sixties told me
about her first, and then I had a girl in
her thirties, I had a guy who was twenty seven.
All three of these people knew who she was from
different venues in different areas. And then I played it
(09:45):
for the girls next door that play with my daughter
and they're eleven and twelve and they knew who she was.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Yeah, for sure, man, she's definitely having a moment.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Well, congratulations on all your success and your next number one.
Thank you so much for taking the time. That's been
more than seven minutes in heaven with Tom, and we
always appreciate you. Everything you do for is Thomas. Good
luck in the future and we'll see you this summer.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yeah, ma'am, thank you very much. Have a good one there.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
He is Thomas Rhetts. Always great to talk to him.
I did go over the seven minutes. I'm probably going
to get in trouble for that one, but we got
nine out of them. But we have a lot of
cool things to talk about. Check him out on tour
with Tucker went Moore this summer, the Better and Boots Tour.
Thomas will be a Coastal Credit Union Music Park in
Raleigh July thirty first, then the next night in Charlotte
(10:28):
at P and C Music Pavilion. Definitely worth the time
to go and see him live. My name is J T. Boss.
This is unscripted. Thank you so much for listening. I'd
love to say we'll see you next month with another episode,
and who knows, you might. It's kind of sparked the creativity.
I might want to go ahead and do another one,
so but thank you for taking the time to listen.
(10:50):
I have some other podcasts here as well, with some
other artists and some strange things I like to talk about,
so check them out when you get a chance.
