Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is the Bloomberg Money Minute on seven hundred WLW.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
This is a Bloomberg Money Minute watch for volatility in
silver again today. That says higher margin requirements from the
CME force traders to commit more cash to hold their positions.
As for Wall Street trading, stock futures are putting toward
mostly lower open. This hour, we're hearing Warner Brothers Discovery
plans to reject the latest takeover bid from Paramount sky Dance.

(00:26):
Sources say the board will meet next week for a
final decision. It's already accepted a bid from rival Netflix,
but has been waiting for Paramount, apparently to increase the
financial terms of its offer.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
And the world's five.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Hundred riches people added a record two point two trillion
dollars to their collective fortunes this year, bringing their total
combined net worth to almost twelve million bucks. You know,
about a quarter of all the games recorded by Bloomberg's
Wealth Index came from just eight people, including Oracle chairman
Larry Elson, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Alphabet co founder Larry Page,

(00:59):
and Amazon founder chef Besis Denise Pell Gritty, Blueberg Radio.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Seven hundred WLWN, Cincinnati, I thought we would talk to
Mason Leith, or ABC News digital reporter out of New York. Hey,
good morning, how are you.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
I'm doing wonderful. Thank you so much for having me
on your show this wonderful morning.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
No problem, I'm glad to be here. We get some
viral news. Let's start with rage bait. What the heck
is that this week?

Speaker 4 (01:25):
So this is a pretty crazy story actually coming from
across the pond in England where Oxford's twenty twenty five
year of the word has been revealed, which is, as
you said, rage bait, which Oxford defines as quotes. Okay,
prepare for this online content deliberately designed to elicit anger
or outrage by being frustrating, provocative, or offensive, typically posted

(01:49):
it in order to increase traffic to or engagement with
a particular web page or social media account.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
If I if I said I understood that, I'd be lying.
So you're supposed to say, I'm rage bait about that.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
So it's basically like if you ever have, like see
a social media account or something online and it makes
you really angry, but that person had actually posted it
deliberately to make people angry because it then increases engagement
in views on their page.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
All right, Oxford University, rage bait the word of the year.
How about raccoon? That could be the word of the year.
What's this this photo I've been seeing online about the
hard party in Raccoon. Tell us about that.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
So this is a pretty amazing story coming out of
Virginia where basically what had happened was there was an
animal shelter animal protection officer who basically was called to
a liquor store and she was looking on the liquor
store she saw something or someone had knocked over all
these bottles of liquor. There was a bunch of different
types of liquor on the ground. She was looking for
the culprit. She went into the bathroom and next to

(02:56):
the toilet passed out was an adorable little raccoon who
had drunk the alcohol he had knocked over on the shelves,
multiple different types than he had passed out next to
the toilet.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
He was eating the pumpkins in my yard and then
he went and got a drink. I think is what
happened there? Oh my goodness, it's.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Five o'clock somewhere.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Say a hard party in Raccoon. Let's do this one Petaluma.
I think California. If I said it right, tell me
about the chickens that got stolen exactly.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
So this is kind of another animal story, but this
one coming out of California, where there's an animal rights activist.
Her name is Zoe Rosenberg and she in the past
she's done some kind of very public facing animal rights protests.
She has changed herself to an NBA basketball hoop at
a playoff game. She once posed as a chick fil

(03:47):
A employee to warn customers in the drive through line
about eating, you know, chickens from a factory farm. And
so her latest protest was she went to a poultry
farm in California and she stole four chickens from the
far named Poppy ivy Astra in Azalea. She gave them
those names. But then basically what ended up happening was

(04:09):
she now has been sentenced to ninety days in jail
for this social office, served thirty days behind bars, and
then her last sixty she has jail alternatives like homarress.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Oh goodness, We're talking to Mason Leath, abcna's digital reporter
about some viral news that's been going on recently. Ted
one more here, this black Lab mix. We'll end with
a happy ending here. He disappeared in San Diego. Then
what happened.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Absolutely so this is the Sunday after Super Bowl where Sadie,
a five year old black Lab mix adorable dog, she
basically went missing from their home in San Diego and
her owners were trying to find her, and on her
collar she had an air tag attached like the ones
that you can get from Apple to find her keys
or luggage or whatnot. And they saw that this air
tag was at the beach, so they went down to

(04:53):
the beach and what had happened was that Sadie basically
had gone for a little swim and there was a
rip current in the chain and she'd gotten swept about
three fourths of a mile out, and so the lifeguards
there launched a full on search of the beach. There
was jedskeds, boats, people on surfboards looking for her. And
right as the search got called off at the one
hour mark because they couldn't find her, one of the

(05:14):
lifeguards saw her head just bobbing in the water as
she was treading water, and they got her on a surfboard,
got her into a boat and then they brought her
back and she had a very cheerful Happer reunion with
her parents.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Wow. Great stories for a great year. Mason Leath, ABC
News Digital Reporter, Thanks so much for your time this morning.
I appreciate it. Thank you for having me, No problem.
We're wrapping up twenty twenty five on Tom Brenneman's show,
and I know it's Wednesday, but we're gonna have hey
Michelle at about eight forty this morning to give us
some ideas of what you can do with the family

(05:46):
for New Year's Eve, what you can do around the
tri State New Year's and also for the weekend and stuff.
Many people ringing in the New Year's they're going to
pop open a bottle of champagne. Three hundred and sixty
million glasses of sparkling wine and champagne going to be

(06:07):
drank tonike for New Year's Eve. Here's an interesting statistic
from the National Insurance Crime Bureau. More vehicles are stolen
on New Year's Day than any other holiday. All right,
so check it out. Just be careful with your car.
Park it somewhere, park it where you can see it,
put it in your garage. But that's an interesting stat

(06:28):
there that more cars are stolen on New Year's Day.
Don't know why. Eight fifteen now and seven hundred WLW.
Should we get another traffic updates? We got Heather Passo
in here for Chuck this morning. Is it winding down
or ramping up for rush hour? What are we dealing with?

Speaker 5 (06:44):
Things are pretty quiet, so we must be winding down
a little bit. From the u SEE Health Traffic Center.
From non invasive to surgical treatments, do you see Health
back Neck and Spine Center offers every option to improve
quality of life with convenient locations across Greater Cincinnati and
northern Kentucky. Learn more at u sehealth dot com. We
do have traffic moderate in pockets. You're really moving well.

(07:08):
We've had a couple of stalls, a new one on
I two seventy five East Mountainment. All the pike though
right shoulders blocks, no big backups here. As you make
your way through the region, you'll find that traffic is
really moving pretty well thanks to the dry conditions. As
you travel on I seventy one your Gilbert Avenue and
volumes are very light. I'm Heather Pasco on news Radio

(07:28):
seven hundred wl W.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
The nine First Warning weather forecasts for New Year's Eve
New Year's Day looking like this, mostly cloudy day. You
can see some sun today too, miraculously high today, thirty six.
It's gonna have clouds bulking up, is what it says
here tonight. Light snow capable of producing some slick spots.
That snow should roll into town after five o'clock six

(07:52):
o'clock tonight. It could do just enough to make the
roads slick if you're going to your New Year's e party,
so be prepared for that all right, tomorrow, Cloe, what
I'm trying to say is clouds, clouds. Tomorrow, as the
snow is expected to end, we may get an inch
of snow for New Year's Day around the Tri State,

(08:13):
and again that could affect the roads, right, but we
will be right at freezing thirty two. That's not a
good degree if you're trying to drive. It's still thirty
around the Tri State and it feels like it's twenty two.
I've got Stephen Portnoy coming up. He's talking about all
the artists that have canceled out at the Trump Kennedy
Center and the fallout from that. In just a couple

(08:36):
of minutes, I'm going to fix that leaky showerhead.

Speaker 6 (08:40):
Each year we make New Year's resolutions in hopes of
bettering ourselves.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
I'm going to listen to the Big One, NonStop, good
luck with yours.

Speaker 7 (08:49):
I'm going to lose one hundred and fifty useless pounds
by dumping my loser boyfriend.

Speaker 6 (08:52):
Have a safe and happy New Year from seven hundred wlw.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Cational correspond it in Washington unless he cancels out on
me this morning. Here, you're not canceling. Everybody else is
canceling right now. We're here, we're working.

Speaker 6 (09:10):
Look, the number of performers and artists canceling is growing.
I think at last reported with seven acts. And we're
talking about a folk singer, a New York based dance company,
a jazz group, this musician Chuck Redd who refused to
perform on Christmas Eve, all of whom now declining to
appear at the newly renamed Trump Kennedy Center because the

(09:31):
name is changed. One of the artists said the cancelation
may cost her, but quote, losing my integrity would cost
me more than any paycheck.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
He chat's did we find out? I know they changed
the name. Was Trump allowed to change the name or
is anybody fighting it still.

Speaker 6 (09:48):
That remains in dispute. There's a lawsuit that's been filed
by Democratic Ohio Congresswoman Joyce Beatty challenging the vote of
the trustees of the Kennedy Center to vote earlier this
month add Donald J. Trump's name to the center and
to the front of the building, and that lawsuit will
have to proceed in the regular course. There's been no

(10:09):
action yet in that case by a judge to order
the name to come down. That doesn't mean that won't
ultimately happen, but it hasn't happened yet, and I would
suggest that this is something we're going to have to
watch because the argument is that when Congress established the
National Cultural Center in nineteen fifty eight and Dwight Eisenhower's
time and renamed it two months after JFK's assassination as

(10:32):
the only memorial to John F. Kennedy in Washington, d C.
The question is whether the board created by that law
has the power to do anything else and add an
additional name to it. There's a lot of dispute about that.
The trustees say that they well, why wouldn't they have
the right And who's to stop them is essentially the argument. Well,
Congressman Beatty says that she serves on that board, and

(10:54):
while there's this dispute over whether she has the power
to vote, whether the vote was unanimous, she says she
was muted on the call. Nevertheless, she is by law
a member of the board, and she's filed this lawsuit.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Wow, do we know as anybody played since the name
has changed, or as everybody canceled.

Speaker 6 (11:13):
What you have to understand is the Kennedy Center, the
Trump Kennedy Center is a multi venue building. So you
have in it the Opera House or the Washington National
Opera plays, the Concert Hall where the National Symphony Orchestra plays.
In addition to that, there's something called the Eisenhower Theater.
There's the Millennium Stage, there's the Terrorist Theater. There are
multiple stages. So we're not talking about Broadway national tourist

(11:37):
canceling or the National Symphony Orchestra canceling. There are still
plenty of shows playing at the Center, but you are
seeing a small number of small time players saying that
they won't perform.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Hey, Stephen Portnoy, ABC News National Corresponding Washington, thanks for
not canceling on me this morning. Thank you, bet we'll
see about tomorrow all right, thanks so much. A twenty
four to seven hundred w l W. The Bengals report
coming up. But did you see this? That old lang
Xion song that a lot of us are going to
sing tonight at the stroke of New Year's Eve midnight

(12:07):
roughly translates into days gone by. That's right. It's lyrics
ask whether old acquaintance should be forgot. It's been loosely
interpreted to be a call to remember friends and experiences
from the past year. Bengal's report next this holiday season.

Speaker 8 (12:25):
Thank you from all of us at the Cincinnati Cancer
Foundation because it.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Is the Bloomberg Money Minute on seven hundred WLW. This
is a Bloomberg money minute. Watch for more volatility and
precious metals today, including silver, because CME Group is raising
margins on precious metals futures. That's for the second time
in a week amid all the volatility. This means traders
need to put up more collateral when they trade precious

(12:49):
metals futures so the CME can make sure traders can
meet their obligations. Separately, the US Mint reportedly can't make
enough silver coins to meet demand from investors seeking all
alternatives to stocks and real estate. Wall Street Journal also
says the Mint stopped taking orders for those silver Eagles
coins in March on Wall Street negative tone for stock
futures on this last trading day of the year.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
And watch out.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
If you mail your bills, the post office will no
longer necessarily postmark things with the date you mail things on. Instead,
the postmark will be dated when the post Office actually
runs your letter through the automated sorting machine. If you
need a bill payment or tax return postmark by a
certain date, you should stand in line and get it
handstamped instead.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Denise Pellgrity Bloomberg Radio. Heh, that's more efficient. I'll stand
in line and get a handstamped. Come on, don't get
me started. We don't really do this on Thursdays with Tom,
but Thursday a holiday, so we're doing it on Wednesday. Hey,
Michelle with us talk about what's going on for New
Year's Eve and the rest of the weekend. What's going on?

(13:53):
How are you?

Speaker 9 (13:54):
Hey there? How are you doing? New Year?

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Happy New Year? You're gonna make it till midnight tonight?

Speaker 10 (14:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (14:02):
Probably, I probably will. I'll say so.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Well, we normally break it down into several different categories.
Maybe not maybe not that far this week, but because
there's so much going on, Oh, let's at least start family.
What are some stuff that we can do with our family?

Speaker 10 (14:17):
Yeah, there are some good options to celebrate the New
Year with the kids. The Toy Story Concert is going
on this weekend. That Cincinnati Pops is bringing the movie
to life. That is Saturday and Sunday, so it's Saturday
seven thirty and Sunday at two. Great way to get
the kids into the Pops is bringing the music they know.

Speaker 9 (14:35):
And for tonight we've got.

Speaker 10 (14:36):
The Happy Zoo Year's Eve calling all party animals.

Speaker 9 (14:40):
I thought that was so cute.

Speaker 10 (14:41):
It's friendly with a countdown starting at eight o'clock with
a forty foot digital tree. They have glow games, photo ops, giveaways,
and there's still the festival lights set up and all that.

Speaker 9 (14:51):
So it's like two for you.

Speaker 10 (14:53):
Know, two absolutely I need that, all right, this is cute.
B and B river Boats is doing a Morning Crews
So this boards at ten thirty in the morning and
count down at noon and party favors superheroes, princesses and
more over the weekend.

Speaker 9 (15:09):
So check that out.

Speaker 10 (15:12):
Down town New Year's Eve, So this it used to
be on Fountain Square now it's going to be around the.

Speaker 9 (15:16):
New Skating rink.

Speaker 10 (15:17):
And they are doing two celebrations tonight, so they're doing
one at eight o'clock with fireworks and one at midnight,
so you can do it with the kids.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Are I'm glad people do that since well, since I've
had little kids in the past, it's always nice to
have that earlier one and then you can go home
and get them to bed and then enjoy the rest
of the night. But I like when they do that's
seven and eight o'clock and then midnight stuff there.

Speaker 10 (15:40):
Well, and a lot of adults love it too, So
for everyone absolutely.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Go to sleep. Now it's time for the adults party.
And you do have some New Year's stuff for the
adults too.

Speaker 9 (15:54):
Yes, if you.

Speaker 10 (15:54):
Haven't really nailed down your plans, here are some options
for you. Roosevelt Room and Rookwood is doing New Year's
Eve seven to close.

Speaker 9 (16:01):
They have DJ they have two dollars High.

Speaker 10 (16:03):
Life's twenty dollars bottles of bubbles, photo booth favors. So
everybody thinks New Year's is so expense that everybody does
all this, you know, charges and everything, but that sounds
like a good deal to me. Ye fifty to fifty Club,
which is one of my favorite little cozy spots at OTR.
They're doing a three course meal and a champagne test
for forty five dollars. Get a reservation for that. They
are open also for some walk ins for cocktails. It's

(16:25):
just a cute little spot in OTR.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
I haven't had an out, I haven't been there yet,
but I got to put that on there. In forty
five bucks for New Year's z that's a pretty good price.

Speaker 10 (16:32):
I know, right right, Okay, So hard Rock is doing
their huge party.

Speaker 9 (16:36):
This is if you love a big crowd.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
This is it.

Speaker 9 (16:38):
Thousand people.

Speaker 10 (16:39):
They have two DJ's I think John John and Boy
Whyfe are going to be there. It's a Neon Thieme
balloon drop all the things, but it's first come for
a serve. The VIP is sold out, So starting at
ten o'clock, first come for serve.

Speaker 9 (16:50):
Thousand people.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Do you have a chance a party in the New
Year's Eve away at hard Rock?

Speaker 9 (16:55):
All right?

Speaker 10 (16:56):
Benjaj out Race is doing a Basca great party, Black
Tide air List performances, Red carpet, champagne toast DJs starting
eight o'clock. Wow, that's like a blockdown from Fountain Square.
The Vintage on Race.

Speaker 9 (17:09):
Win your House is doing theirs they have.

Speaker 10 (17:11):
It's a ticketed event also with two complimentary drinks, music
toast at midnight, light bites, and the proceeds go to
a few local charities.

Speaker 9 (17:18):
So that is a good one.

Speaker 10 (17:20):
Uh. Turf Way Park is having their racing, so get
some horse racing in and a lot of music bights
and that's starting at eight o'clock.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Horse racing on New Year's Eve. That's one that yeah,
I liked if if I wasn't going to bed at
eight o'clock, that would be a fun one, right that
That was what was I thinking too? What about to
ski in on New Year's Eve?

Speaker 11 (17:45):
I know?

Speaker 10 (17:45):
Okay, so this is fun perfect North you know it's
this weather is perfect for them, so they're blowing a
lot of snow out there, so they have the skiing
and boarding and sledding, but they also are going to
do fireworks, DJ party favors and you know what else,
they're doing the torch parade.

Speaker 9 (18:00):
And we used to go to Colorado for New Year's Eve.
All the time. I love this.

Speaker 10 (18:03):
So everybody comes down with a torch at midnight and
that is such a pretty thing to see.

Speaker 9 (18:08):
It really is really cool.

Speaker 10 (18:10):
And you don't have to even buy ticket and you
just want to go see that.

Speaker 9 (18:12):
You can go out there and just watch it.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
All right, we're talking to him. Hey, Michelle, here about
stuff going on? What about fun other activities, not necessarily
on New Year's Eve? What do you got there?

Speaker 9 (18:23):
Yes, for the weekend, if we even know what day
it is.

Speaker 10 (18:26):
Let's see, we've got the Cabaret Cafe. So the pops
are actually playing tonight at eight o'clock. This is the
nineteen thirty speakeasy style tunes from around the world.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
I like that.

Speaker 9 (18:35):
The laugh in the New Year. We have Anthony to Vido.

Speaker 10 (18:39):
He is at the Commonwealth Club over in Newport and
he is He's been on all the shows late night.
I was Steven Colbert Comedy Central, so much more. He's
doing two shows tonight, seven thirty and ten o'clock. All right,
this is your last chance for Hamilton. And you know
I have a little trick that I do if you
got two hours before. I hate telling all my tricks,
but I'll tell you before.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
And walk up.

Speaker 9 (19:01):
You can get you know, cheap seats really may be
able to you may just be by yourself or whatever.
You get what's left if there's seats available. But it's
it's a great gig to go see a show.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
What happens left, that's what you get.

Speaker 5 (19:11):
I like that.

Speaker 10 (19:12):
You get what you get.

Speaker 9 (19:13):
You're not really talking to anybout you're in the show anyway.
I'm like, it doesn't matter, be so different or you're
not supposed to be. Okay.

Speaker 10 (19:19):
So we've got Xavier and yukon tonight five o'clock it's
sentas and we have the Bearcats versus Houston Saturday at
two o'clock at the fifth third Arena. And I also
want to say I'm a bear Cat so Oxworth. They
are in need of blood big time right now. But
they're doing really good giveaways. So if you're a Bearcat
Fani like I am, I'm doing this right away.

Speaker 9 (19:39):
They're giving away a U.

Speaker 10 (19:39):
See puffy vest in January while supplies last for donors.

Speaker 9 (19:44):
Yes, I checked it out. It's even cute. It's a
cool one.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
I love it. I like that in Houston the game
tomorrow to the Great Way. Yeah, great way to break
into the New Year's.

Speaker 9 (19:53):
Absolutely, we've got cyclones this weekend.

Speaker 10 (19:57):
We've got versus Indie tonight six thirty at Heritage Bank,
and they do Indo of Fireworks tonight, and then all
weekend they've got Throwback Weekend with a two dollars beer
two dollars so to two dollars a hot dogs. That's
Friday at seven thirty and Saturday at four and other
things wild Wendy's Wedding Expo. If anybody pops the question
tonight or over the holidays, you may want to try

(20:19):
to get things figured out for your big events. So
the third and fourth at the Sharonville Convention Center is
the wedding Expo.

Speaker 11 (20:25):
Yep.

Speaker 10 (20:26):
And if you want to fix things up around your house,
that's Sincinnati Home Show is going on Saturday and Sunday
at the new the Northern Kentucky Convention Center.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Oh wow.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (20:35):
And then of course we've got Bengals and Browns Sunday
at one.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
I've got my if It's Brown's Flush It Down shirt
on right now, so I'm all prepared for I love it.
I love that. Are you partaking in some of these
events this weekend yourself?

Speaker 10 (20:50):
I I probably I'm going to dinner, and I might
be going to the Winterhouse on Fountain Square to celebrate
the New Year, and probably the Bengals game and some
other stuff between.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
Who knows that Winterhouse on Fountain Square is? Is that
like a bar in a bubble or something like that?
Is that?

Speaker 10 (21:06):
Yeah? So it's a big it's almost like a big,
you know, greenhouse. It's pretty big though, and it's open
on winter.

Speaker 9 (21:13):
It's great.

Speaker 10 (21:13):
They have little couches and vignette set up so you
can bring a group of friends. They have card decks
of cards sitting around so you can visit this anytime.
They have different things going on like jas, live music,
sound baths on Sunday, yoga kind of things, So look
at their schedule because there's a lot going on there
for the winter, which is great.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
All right, Hey Michelle, how do we connect with you?

Speaker 10 (21:33):
Ty Michelle one on Instagram and Hay Mischelle on Facebook.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
Hey, I've been listening all year you and Tom talking
about things every week and appreciate you doing something with us.
Now we'll talk to you next Thursday at eight forty
when Tom gets back.

Speaker 9 (21:46):
Okay, okay, great, Thanks, Happy New Year.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
You too, Happy New Year. It's coming up on eight
forty eight on seven hundred wl W. Steve Hawkins in
here for Tom Brenneman. One more thing here that I
got tonight in Plymouth, Wisconsin, they drop a giant cheese wedge.
How about that they drop a gigantic pine cone in Flagstaff, Arizona,

(22:12):
and a conkshell in Key West, Florida. So you have
time to get to some of those bizarre, weird New
Year's Eve drops. How about another look at traffic this morning.
We've got Heather Pasco in here for Chuck Ingram. Is
it winding down or how's it look?

Speaker 12 (22:27):
Oh?

Speaker 9 (22:27):
It is winding down.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
Traffic is very light. We have just a little bit
of a slow spot due to an accident. From the

going to be a mostly cloudy day today, high thirty six.
There may be a pika son I should say that
also tonight, you got to bundle up. It's going to

extra time driving. Tomorrow. Snow expected to in but it's
still cold. Close to an inch is expected with a
high tomorrow of only thirty two. That's about where we're
at right now. Thirty around the tri State feels like

Harlambus with us our ABC News Investigated reporter in New York.
A Peter. Security prep is underway ahead of the New
Year's Eve celebrations in Times Square tonight. Right, that's exactly right.

Speaker 7 (24:48):
We're seeing as serge of officers, every NYDEPD officer, according
to the Commissioner Police, is being sent today and tomorrow
to ensure security for the nearly million p people who
are expected to show up in Times Square. While there
are no specific threats targeting Times Square that celebrations. There's
a concern that New York City remains an aspirational target

(25:10):
for loan offenders and small groups motivated by ideology, specifically
concerns about a vehicle ramming attack.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Last year, we saw a deadly.

Speaker 7 (25:18):
Attack in New Orleans that took the lives of fourteen
people and injured nearly sixty. That is certainly front of
mind as the NYPD prepares for this year's event.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
Yeah, and it's such a large scale operation for New
Year's Eve and Times Square, but there's a couple of
major differences this year.

Speaker 7 (25:35):
That's right. In terms of the security difference, we're seeing
additional police in new locations, as well as mobile teams
doing secondary screenings. In terms of the actual event, it's
an expanded one and they're not just one, but two
ball drops this year, one of course at midnight, and
a second one a few minutes later to celebrate the
country's two hundred fiftieth anniversary. The ball will be illuminated

(25:58):
in red, white and blue, pounds of confetti dropped and
music that's to America the Beautiful by Ray Charles.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
And that's almost immediately after the normal midnight ball dropping,
so they'll be.

Speaker 7 (26:12):
That one, and then later in the year, on July third,
they'll actually be a third ball drop, if you think
about it. So they'll be the original ball drop at midnight,
another one at twelve or four pm, and then they'll
bring back the tradition in July one day ahead of
Independence Day.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
Hey, you talked about the screening and stuff. Tell our
listeners about they block off several blocks around Times Square
and you go through a screening to get into the event.

Speaker 7 (26:39):
That's exactly right. It's like a fortified area of New
York City this time of year. It's normally an area
where there's.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
Some traffic allowed.

Speaker 7 (26:47):
Again, Times Square is formed by the intersection of two
major road so all of that traffic is blocked by
not only some of these ballards that are propped up,
but huge concrete blocks and trucks, build tims and garbage trucks.
To enter one of the official viewing areas. Entrance for
these areas it begins around three pm. You have to

(27:08):
go through a magnetron, an additional layer of security, and
then in addition to that first layer of security, there
are these mobile units and underconfer officers throughout the area
to ensure the safety of all these people who are
in Times Square. It really feels like if you're walking
through Times Square right around now, a fortified area of
this city, just to ensure the safety of this event.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
When will it officially or has it already been blocked off?
Can you walk around Times Square right now?

Speaker 7 (27:37):
I think right about now it's kind of off limits.
We're seeing people begin to show up to get in line.
The actual lines will open up at three pm, but
right now Times Square is really just a ton of
temporary metal barricades in place, ready for people to kind
of stream in this afternoon.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
All right, maybe you can get Diana Ross's auto at
midnight tonight for me, Okay, I will try to move it, okay.

December thirty first was the original end date, but the
City of Cincinnati's investigation into Teresa Thiji as being extended
to the end of February. The chief was placed on
paid administrative leave back in October. Her attorney, Steven m
has said in the past that Fiji's escapegoat and his
reaction to the extension came in a statement Tuesday afternoon,

(29:41):
quote the mayor and city manager should be ashamed of
themselves for continuing this charade of an investigation. This was
nothing but a cynical political stunt from the start end

town home caught fire on Murray Avenue in Marymont yesterday.
No one was injured in that blaze either, but the

(31:49):
building did sustain heavy damage. A cause has not been
determined for either fire. The Health Department in Kentucky says
