Speaker 1 (00:00):
On seven hundred WLW.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
All right, we say good morning once more to our
main man, the pride of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio,
Dan Schwartzman from the Bloomberg Newsroom in New York City, Danny,
farmers are about to get a government bailout.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
First of all, I'm blushing from that beautiful intro. There
you should be, but you shan thank you. I can
see it through the radio wave. I am yeah. Chik's
a rosie.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
The Trump administration Tom will unveil a farm aid package
offering twelve billion dollars in assistance to farmers affected by
low crop prices and the impact of President Trump's tariff policies.
That's a coranto White House official. The aid will include
up to eleven billion dollars in one time payments to
crop farmers under the Department of Agriculture's newly designed Farmer
Bridge Assistance program.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Meanwhile, a big energy sector deal get the go ahead.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
These kind of fly under the radar because we don't
really know the companies, but they're Major Consolation Energy reaching
a settlement with the Department of Justice to complete its
more than sixteen billion dollar purchase of Calpine as part
of the resolution, Calpine agreed to sell several natural gas
plans to address anti trust concerns tied to the transaction.
The combination will create tom America's biggest fleet of power plans.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Big move here. Wow, that is something else. Sorry. Meanwhile, Danny,
the futures today, Well, we got a lot of green
right now.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
That now is up twelve points, so again essentially flat
NASAC though that's now close to three tenths a one percent.
SMB currently is up a tenth of one percent. Markets
open in about an hour and twenty minutes from Bloomberg.
Dan Schwartzman on news radio seven hundred WLW alrighty, good morning,
Welcome to the Morning Show. We call it the Morning After.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
We do it the morning after every Bengals game from
the day and or night before. With former Bengals great
Tim McGee, Bengals losing a first yesterday thirty nine thirty four.
They had a lead late in that game, is six
minutes to go in the game and then back to
back interceptions leading to a pair of Buffalo touchdowns twenty

(02:05):
one points for Buffalo in the fourth quarter, and the
Bengals for all intents and purposes, Tim McGee. If it
wasn't done already, they may not officially be, but they
are dun done.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Well for those super optimistic people that were out there
the last couple of weeks that thought they had any
red of hope, I got the Iceberg in Florida to
sell them since they were very delusional about the bengals
chancons of making the playoffs in one in AFC North. Nevertheless,
here we are another season, and Tom, I gotta say

(02:44):
this right up front, man, I'm hard pressed to say
this team is underperforming collectively or individually, and I know
that sounds really weird. However, this team, they were built
this way. They were built to score thirty plus points. Defensively,
they didn't have much, and they're showing what we expected
coming into this year.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
You know, it's sad when you think about the fact that,
you know the offenses you mentioned, they score thirty four,
only thirteenth of the thirty four and for all intents
and purposes, really only seven of the thirteen of the
second half came when it truly mattered. Yeah, I guess
they had a chance before Alvin rips off the fifteen

(03:23):
yard run whatever it was on third down to get
the ball back one more time. But you know, it's
just a shame that the offense has to do this,
whether it's Joe Flacco or Joe Burrow. And you were
in the huddle on teams that scored a pile of
points man back in the Boomer days, and Nicky and
James Brooks and you and Collinsworth and the whole fleet,

(03:44):
Eddie Brown, all you guys. But at least you knew
a defense would give you a chance to score thirty
four and win a game.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
You know, first, let me send my condolences to Ick.
He was he lost one of his daughters. My heart
goes off Tim and his family.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
Right.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
But you know, like you were saying, it's it's too
much pressure. And when I say pressure, I'm talking about
it's just unrealistic. When the offense is coming off the
field time and time again, they score in the first position,
the second position, the third position, and they're scoring touchdown
and you're not looking in the rearview here and the
team is right still in the game. That's got to

(04:24):
be internally frustrating for the individuals on offense and collectively
from the coaching staff on ever. They yes, you expect
that man, we should have a lead right now. However,
we do understand our defense is not the best. But
they've been playing quality, and they've been playing very hard,
very gritty. They've been grinding. But you know when you're

(04:46):
playing and like you said, I've been in that situation
before where you know, our defense wasn't the greatest. However,
there were times that our defense carried us David Fulcher
and Tim Ryan o company. But you do. I mean,
I'm sorry, it is what it is. You want to
stay as one, you want to stay in harmony, but
it's just not possible. So it's very frustrating, and you know,

(05:09):
inside the locker room it does get a little you know,
it gets you can get a little perturbed. That's or defense.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
You know, Tim, Look, you know, you and I text
back and forth sometimes during the games. And I think
it's safe to say that it doesn't matter what city
you're in, whether it's a big time college team you
follow on local radio, or whether it's a pro team
in every city, not most every city, and it comes
down to play calling and the debate about it. I

(05:35):
don't like to get into a ton of it, but
I was just curious your thoughts. Yesterday, the Bengals have
the lead in the fourth quarter, there's about six minutes
left in the game. They have the ball all the
way down to the Buffalo thirty three yard line, and
on first down they're throwing the ball. Now, that was
the one where it was intercepted and run back sixty

(05:56):
three yards for a touchdown. I'm sitting there screaming at
the television one wondering why, even though you're not running
the ball particularly well, but you're still three and a
half yards of carry and it is first down. You're
trying to kill some clock and not let your defense
get back on the field. Why are you throwing the
ball on first down?

Speaker 4 (06:14):
You know, I think that particular play when you look
at it, when they came to the line of the scrimmage,
we have what's called check with me at the line
that the quarterback and he could throw a he can
throw a pass, well, he can run the ball and
more likely, obviously that was the situation where he was
trying to get the ball in Jamar Chase's hands, which
is basically a run. Uh right, You know, I asked

(06:38):
he had to Jamar Katters that he's going to gain
you know, five to six seven, if not more yards,
So I kind of understand that it wasn't maybe a
down the field path and just unfortunately, and I'm talking unfortunately,
because they had the team had gotten some breaks the ball,
Joe didn't seem to have grip of the ball and
it seemed to have slipped out of the hand and

(06:59):
he kind of shot put it out there and defender
made a great play. And obviously, you know, Joe Burrow's
not a defensive player that can make a tackle. So
you know, that one I don't think we really can
put on the coaching staff. It did appear from a
player standpoint or former player standpoint, that that was pretty
much a design run and Burrow checked out of that
and went to something that you know, it works nine

(07:20):
out of ten times. Is just unfortunately, when you have
on the Bengals uniform, and sometimes you're a Bengal fans
that thinks just that dark cloud seems to be over
Charlie Brown's head.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Is it possible to completely revamp a defense in this
day and age. You were not only a great player,
you were also an agent for a long time. I mean,
you know the inner workings of trying to build a
team through free agency. They've tried it in the draft,
it's not gone. Well, can this thing get turned around
in one offseason? Knowing the financial commitments they have already

(07:51):
to burrow Chase and Higgins among others.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Well, in order to look at the future, you got
to look at the path, and the path is going
to point towards t Higgins. When you gave the fans
the sugar rush of signing another dynamic offensive player, you
sacrifice the defense. Right now, the defense should have a
first rounder and a veteran player on the roster, and

(08:18):
without T Higgins, that's if you were really trying to
win a championship, you would have constructed that they would
have constructed that defense with another first round pick that
they could have gotten easily in the trade and a
veteran player they could have gotten it. However, Okay, now
you look towards the future, what can you do? The
problem is money's number one, cap number two, and opportunity

(08:41):
number three. Who's going to be out there? And people
just don't This team is not one player away, they're
not two player away. They're you know, probably five or
six players away. So in the immediate future, tom My
fingers across my hands are pointing up to God. But
I just don't see it happening. I hope what happens,
but I don't see it turning around over the next

(09:03):
year or so. And now you know you're gonna get
You're still got the big old question mark. What's going
to happen with Trey? You know he he's not under
contract long term, so there's more concerns right now than
than really opportunities. That makes you be very optimistic that
this thing can get turned around very soon. I doubt it.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
You know that Hendrickson thing before I let you go. Look,
when a guy gets hurt, a guy is hurt. And
I never read into, you know, thinking a guy you
know should be playing shouldn't be playing. I can't get
in his side, his head, or his body, and I've
never done that. But the one thing you can do
is when Zach Taylor was asked about that regularly last
week in a couple of press conferences, he basically just said,

(09:45):
when he was asked, you know, is Trey coming to
team meetings, et cetera, et cetera, he just said, well,
he's spending all of his time with our training staff
and our medical staff.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Hendrickson is a captain.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Would it be normal if a guy is hurt and
even though he's not going to play, would it be
normal for him to come into defensive meetings or probably not?

Speaker 4 (10:07):
Probably not? Not as unprofession you know, you're not. It's
not college. There's not a lot of raw raw. It's
individuals getting themselves prepared individually and going out on the
field collectively. Those those messages are not very They're not
looked upon as in leadership. Like you, if you're going
to lead, you lead by example, and by example means

(10:28):
you play on the football field. You know. It's just
not a situation where I gave or really, you know
what about what the next guy was doing, whether he
whether he was in meetings. As long as he was
getting ready to come back, that was the more important
than you know, me looking at his face going ha, Trey,
how you doing? You're doing okay? Okay. His presence is
being sol No, you go get healthy because we need
you to be run around that end, stacking that quarterback

(10:51):
and putt pressure on the quarterback so we can win
some football games.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Last thing I want to ask you before I let
you get out of here, it looks like Patrick Mahomes
and the Chiefs are going to have a hard time
making the playoffs. You wonder, is this tim the beginning
of the end of that incredible run that the Chiefs
have been on.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
Oh, absolutely it is. And here's the reason why. It's
because people pluck their talent. You know, they couldn't when
you have so much success for so long, people just
pluck the corner back, and they pluck your receiver, and
they pluck your your your your defensive tackles. And when
they just take away your talent, it's hard to just
keep rebuilding and rebuilding, a replenish and replenishing. And you've

(11:31):
got to get that organization the credit that and do.
They've been super competitive for a long I call it
a football eternity that they've been able to reach and
be at the top of their success based on the
same set of players. And you know, Travis Kelsey is
getting a little old, and the defense and the scheme
is getting a little old. So yeah, there, you know,

(11:51):
people have caught up with them, and youth has caught
up with them, and yeah, people pretty much is not
intimidated by them, and they're going to have to retool
and if anyone can do it, Andy Recan.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Yep, you're right about that. Tim, thanks as always for
your time. The morning after, I appreciate it, my friend.
I hope you have a great rest of your day
in a great week.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
I appreciate you as always.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
All right.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Tim McGee, former Bengal Great, joins us on the morning
after here on the Morning Show, seven hundred WLW. Traffic
is the story out there today, Chuck, what is the
very latest?

Speaker 6 (12:22):
It has been chaos, it has especially on westbound two

work with this wreck just before love them. The left
lanes remain blocked and single file to get by on
the right hand side.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
The traffic backs to the Milford Parkway.

Speaker 6 (12:38):
You're close to an hour and a half away in
order to get through that jam. On southbound seventy one,
I'm seeing some heavier traffic through blue Ash and Kinwood
and things start to open up with an until you
get to the lateral where there's an accident on the
ramp from Ridge to southbound seventy one.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
The latest wreck is northbound.

Nine first warning forecasters and of our buddy Jennifer a
catch mark. It's chili out there, no two ways about it.
It's twenty seven degrees, but it feels like it's in
the teens because of a rather brisk wind out there today,
partly sunny skies. As a day goes on, we're only
up to thirty one chili tonight low of nineteen tomorrow

(13:45):
mix of sun and clouds. HI have a forty same
story for Wednesday, We're up to forty three. Then the
real cold begins. A cold front comes in overnight Wednesday night,
and our highs on Thursday and Friday we are looking
below the freezing mark Mondays with Marty coming up after
the news eight twenty three seven WL.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
Eleven hundred WLW, the home of the best Bengals.

Speaker 7 (14:10):
Copy Josh Allen threw for three touchdowns and ran for
another score, and Christian Benford scored that go ahead touchdown
with a sixty three yard interception return. In the fourth quarters,
the Bills outslugged the Bengals in Buffalo thirty nine to
thirty four. The lost, leaving Cincinnati at four and nine
on the year. Bengals are up by ten points with

(14:30):
eight minutes ago, but Buffalo roars back with twenty one
unanswered points.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
Zach Taylor just sick for the guys.

Speaker 8 (14:37):
You know, I thought they made some ployees. They made
more than us down the stretch, and that was the
difference in the game. And two really good teams. It's
a harp our football game. We just we came up
shore and it's this point.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
And how about Benfort's big play.

Speaker 8 (14:52):
It's kind of for the corner coming off the edge,
and he made a great player. He had glid aaranus.
It's very rare that you see a guy have that
awareness the way the we were attacking there and make
a play like that. So Ben for great play, great
play behind and.

Speaker 7 (15:06):
At four and nine, now, how about them playoff hopes.

Speaker 8 (15:08):
Keep picking each other up.

Speaker 5 (15:09):
It was.

Speaker 8 (15:09):
It was a hardf our game. We had our moments,
they had a couple more. Still believe in these guys
and and again we're gonna have to know we're up
against the wall here with with whatever our opportunities are.
But we've got a big home game this week and
the divisions. We've got to be able to pick ourselves
up and find a way to go respond.

Speaker 7 (15:25):
More to Night on Bengals Line starting at six oh

the Bengals are home Sunday at pay Course Stadium up

the Bloomberg Money Minute, all in seven hundred WLW.

Speaker 9 (16:07):
This is a Bloomberg Money Minute. President Trump plans to
unveil a long awaited twelve billion dollar aid package for
farmers who have been hit hard by low crop prices
and the administration's tariff policies. A White House official telling
Bloomberg the President will announce the package and an event
leader this afternoon. Farmers have been dealing with the slow
ramp up of Chinese purchases of soybeans and other agricultural products.

(16:32):
Checking in on the market, stock futures are little change
this morning. The main event of the week is the
Federal Reserve's final meeting of the year. An interest rate
cut is expected, and it's harder for home flippers to
make money. According to real estate broker Redfin, investor activity
has flattened, with home purchases ticking up one percent last quarter.

(16:52):
Lots of buyers are getting priced out of the market.
Investors are facing roadblocks including high house prices and mortgage rates.
Real estate investors purchase seventeen percent of homes set sold
last quarter. Corney's Anaho Bloomberg Radio, all.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Right, eight forty one in the morning show, seven hundred WLW.
We do it every Monday. You call him Marty, I
call him Dad. The Hall of famer Marty Brenneman joins us,
Hope you had a good weekend. Nice having you over
Saturday night to watch your Indiana Hoosiers.

Speaker 10 (17:29):
Yes, sir, you know me. I'm the levant front runner.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
Man.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
You were gonna be with me at our house that night.
Polly's rooting for Indiana, her mom's rooting for Indiana. Even
our daughter rooted for Indiana. And I thought, well, you
know what, my dad's got my back. He'll join me
rooting for the buck Eyes.

Speaker 10 (17:50):
But no, well, you know, I just the goodness. Now,
I was caught because I talked to Luke, you know,
two or three times a week and before the game,
the day before or whatever, and I said, you know,
I really have mixed emotions about this. If Indiana were
to win, that would be wonderful for the school and

(18:13):
for your interest and involvement in the athletic program. They're
majoring in communications, and if Ohio State wins, you know,
then God bless them for that. They had a great year.
They were the number one team in the nation until
that happened. So I just I was happy with Indiana.

(18:34):
I was impressed. I was surprised. I said, last week,
I thought the game had a chance to be a
blowout with Ohio State winning it, and obviously that did
not happen. Will make it interesting now is if they
play again.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Yep, that will be interesting. And I think they're the
two best teams. I really do.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
After watching both of them play one another, I think
a lot of people walked away saying not just because
they won, but the way they played.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
I mean, Indiana is good, Man, and you're find mind.
Urban mire me the comment.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
He made a comment to me when I was talking
to him on the phone a couple of weeks ago,
but he said it on television that he thinks this
is the greatest coaching job that has ever been done
in the history of college football.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Ever.

Speaker 10 (19:15):
That's pretty strong. That's that's a big time compliment there.
And I don't know that you I don't know. That
may be an exaggeration. I'm sure Urban feels that way,
otherwise he would not have said it. But what the
guy's done is amazing. To come from James Madison and
and and and and do what he did last year

(19:36):
and turn around and it has done what he's done
this year. It's impressive, it really is. And I think
it's great for the game. I think it's a God
knows the game needs something after yesterday, you know.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
But I'm happy for.

Speaker 10 (19:51):
Him and I really pay attention now and it's got
to do with them and be so good and the
fact that Luke's involved in it and in the program
as he is with as communications major.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
You know.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
I want to ask you a little bit about Notre
Dame because I've been reading a lot of articles last
night and again this morning. Pete Sampson covers that far
the Athletic. It's a great, great publication, and he's been
following that program for a long time. We both I
can speak for you. I know when I say this,
how can you not be overly impressed as a coach

(20:24):
and as a human being? Then Marcus Freeman the head coach.
But Notre Dame, there's no doubt they're one of the
top twelve teams in the country, not even debatable, but
they are not in the playoff. And once that was announced,
Notre Dame has said it will not play in a
bowl game. I found that to be mind boggling. Were

(20:45):
you surprised at all by that? What are your thoughts
on that?

Speaker 10 (20:49):
I was surprised by that I've read piece this morning.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
The guy's at hell of a writer.

Speaker 10 (20:55):
He does a great job in covering Notre Dame for
the athletic I was surprised at the same time. You
know what, I don't. I'm not. I don't disagree with them.
Now I will say this. You know, Iowa State and
Kansas State did it, and their conference rules that's gonna
cost them a half a million dollars apiece for pulling

(21:16):
out of a bowl game. There is no rule in
the in the Atlantic Coast Conference even though they don't
they're not covered under football. Uh, they're not going to
have to pay anything for pulling out because there's no
penalty on them being an independent team. I don't, I
don't think I I you know what, God bless them.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
For doing what they did.

Speaker 10 (21:38):
If anybody ever got screwed, they did.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (21:40):
And and it all has to do with the commercialism
that pervades if it's pervasive in everything that is under
the NCAA umbrella. Although they're not in part with his
College Football Playoff, even the people on that committee. Uh.
And the guy did a poor job yesterday try I
had to explain exactly why Notre Dame was not there,

(22:04):
basing most of it on the fact that they lost
to Miami in the opening game of the season back
in September.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
It's just.

Speaker 10 (22:13):
I'm a fan of what they did. I support the
heck out of what they did. And people can say, well,
they act like a child because you're going to take
their football and go home. Oh, you say whatever you
want to say. They knew the pushback that was coming
from that announcement when it was made, and they went
through with it anyway, and so somebody has to stand

(22:33):
up and say this whole thing is an ESPN sham.
The conference championship games don't mean anything except putting more
money in the conference. Of the people involved, I respect
the fact that they did what they did.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
You know, people ask you all the time, totally shifting
gears for a minute back to Luke at Indiana and
getting a chance to do a lot of events, not
just a big events. I mean he's done a lot
of events and a lot of people don't think, you know,
are a big deal. Wrestling, women's volleyball, water polo, all
this kind of thing.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
The point I'm getting at here is you're asked all
the time. I'm asked all the time about kids who
are thinking about going to college and getting involved in
sports broadcasting and what would you recommend they do. And
the first thing we always say is, well, you got
to get reps. The more you do it, the better
you get at it. But it gets to the point
that you know, in a lot of ways, it doesn't
matter where you go, it's what you do once you

(23:27):
get there.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
And at least Inanda, you.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Know, Syracuse gets all the pub and rightfully so, they
do a great job up there, and there are other
places too. But I just feel like, you know, after
watching his journey, and those things weren't around when you
and I were coming up. They just weren't available to
do so many different things. But I just think that
for a lot of young people, you know, I would
look to go somewhere we want to hear your thoughts

(23:50):
of questions they ought to be asking, maybe from that
communication school before they go there, about what kind of
opportunity they're going to get and how soon they're going
to get it.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
That's the bottom line.

Speaker 10 (24:01):
I agree, one hundred percent. I went to Carolina to
major in communications. I transferred from Randolph Making College and
Virginia because I wanted to be a broadcaster in sports,
and Carolina's got a great school. You mentioned Syracuse considered
to be number one. There are so many schools in
this country now that have good broadcast departments. But the

(24:24):
bottom line is exactly Tom what you said. I don't
care how good your program is. If me, as a
eighteen year old casting my lot to a school that
unbeknownst to me because I didn't ask the question, I'm
not going to get much of an opportunity before I
get the sheepskin and graduate. I'm wasting my time doing that.

(24:45):
And so I would not be enamored with the Uncs
of the world or the Syracuses of the world unless
I know I can get experience. If I can't, I
go to a lesser program that will give me far
more EXPERI experience than one of the major, notable programs
in the country without any question.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
I mean, you know, look, there are opportunities out there
