We are live along the banks of the Mighty Ohio Rivers.
It flows past Paid Course Dadium. We're today the New
York Jets flying to take on your Cincinnati Bengals. In
here at the Holy Grail. They are killing kegs and
slimming back shots because they're getting ready pregaming, if you will,
for this Titanic Struggling at one o'clock today here in
Cincinnati along with moeger I am ken Brew and standing

(09:22):
next to us is one of the greatest comebacks since Lazarus.
Tony Pike is back. Tony Pike is back, and he's
not only back, he's back as a Hall of Famer.
So inducted on Friday night at the University of Cincinnati.
God bless you, Tony. It's been a rock and roll

(09:43):
two weeks. But you're standing scarred but now not beaten.
Bruce Long, Yeah, but still standing.

Speaker 17 (09:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (09:51):
It's good to see both of you, guys. It's been
a while. A lot is transpired.

Speaker 14 (09:55):
Think of everything that has happened since last time the
three of us were on this stage. Joe Burrows, Yeah,
we were here. Joe was getting ready to play quarterback.
We were getting ready for the home opener. The Bengals
had just beating the Browns. Joe Burrow was getting ready
to play. A lot has gone down on and off
the field. Off it is, first of all, everything he
said about Tony, the two week long Tony Pike news cycle.

Speaker 17 (10:15):
Enough. I mean, like, hey, he's fired. He's thought you
were gonna get till tea.

Speaker 14 (10:20):
I said, I'll give you until kickoff today. Okay, we're
almost at the end. But I just I got a
comment on something I saw before the show really quick,
and I don't want you to get mad at me.
And I got here like eight thirty and I sat
outside a morning coffee and I had a cigar, enjoying
the cool chili fall weather, getting ready for game football weather,
and I don't know ten ten to twelve folks lined

(10:40):
up getting ready to get the first tables at the
Holy Grail. And I was talking to those folks, very
very nice, and you walked up and walked past me,
which you didn't notice me, which is fine. You just
walked past those folks and didn't say a word. There
they are ready to meet you, looking for a moment
with Ken. Maybe take a picture, maybe talk with you
about your illustrious career where you work for every TV
station and town, and just it was just it was

(11:02):
as if they didn't exist. You look like Orlando Brown
trying to block somebody like.

Speaker 17 (11:06):
Wowndy who wow, Wow. A lot of these folks are
sitting right here. Apology.

Speaker 14 (11:11):
Apologize to those folks for ignoring them before we can
get the show started.

Speaker 15 (11:15):
Ralph, I've been in this town fifty years. If somebody
wants to meet me, they've had ample opportunity. Call me, Ralph,
I did.

Speaker 17 (11:23):
Okay, it's great to be with both of you, guys, No,
it is.

Speaker 15 (11:26):
It's good. You know, you never know how things em
and flow, both on and off the field, as you say,
but here we are today. The Jets are in town,
a mere shadow of what they were two months ago.
And even then they were a mere shadow of a
football team. Now here they are today. They're beating their bang.
But I've seen this movie before. I kind of know

(11:47):
what could happen. And please walk me back, Tony from
the fears that have gripped me like a vice over
the last week.

Speaker 18 (11:55):
I would go back to the owner of the Jets
earlier this week. If you're worried tot how this team
is going to respond In talking about justin fields, if
you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that,
you're going to see similar results across the league. If
we could just complete a pass, it would be good. Now,
I'm assuming those comments were made about Justin Fields thinking
Tyrod Taylor would be available to play today. Yes, now

(12:17):
Tyrod can't play. Justin Fields will be the starting quarterback.
He'll be doing so without Garrett Wilson, He'll be doing
so without Sauce Gardner. So not only is it a
zhe and seven beating down team, it's a team that
comes in without their best player on each side of
the ball and a quarterback that can't have any confidence
based on how they feel about him in his own organization.

Speaker 17 (12:35):
So I would think that would.

Speaker 18 (12:37):
Be enough for this Jets team to not show up
and play their best football. But it's cliche. When you
allow a team like that to hang around, they start
to really believe. So take care of business early. But
it feels like a game the Bengals should win.

Speaker 14 (12:51):
Yeah, if you can't win this one, it undoes what
they did last Thursday. And look, if I'm a New
York fan, if I'm Aaron Glenn, I go well. I
can lean on Breeze Hall, and I can lean on
maybe Justin Fan being able to elude Bengals defenders who
can't tackle. And unfortunately for all of Joe Flacco's heroics,
Jamar Chase t Higgins, all the stuff they did offensively.
If they don't come back and win that game, the

(13:11):
story is the Bengals defense failed again. And so the
question in New York all week has been Tyrod Taylor
or Justin Fields. The answer in Cincinnati is it doesn't matter,
because with the Bengals defense and the way they play,
they can make a pedestrian quarterback look good. They can
make a bad quarterback look pedestrian. So that, to me
is what today is all about. Can the defense take

(13:32):
enough of a step forward in a win to make
you feel like they can get the job done against
better teams starting next week?

Speaker 18 (13:39):
And to me, it's an opportunity that two weeks ago
we didn't think was going to present itself to the
Cincinnati Bengals. I mean, you mentioned the last time all
three of us were here together, we were getting ready
to watch Joe.

Speaker 17 (13:50):
Burrow play quarterback.

Speaker 18 (13:51):
Since then, we've watched Joe get injured, We've watched the
Jake Browning disaster, and then we watched this team get
restored with hope because of what Joe Flacco did in
the second half against Green Bay and last week against
the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it's a Bengals team as well
that has questions Logan Wilson. Once out of Cincinnati, this
defense has to play better than what they've shown. It

(14:14):
feels like there's this youth movement happening. They're unclear on
who's going to be starting at guard on the offensive
side of the ball. Like Mo said, everything that they
built last week goes away because the conversation last week
if you lose, is season's over or who are we
moving on from?

Speaker 17 (14:31):
Who are we moving?

Speaker 18 (14:32):
And now it is can you get back to five hundred?
Can you find a way to beat the Bears? Can
you be five and fourth the deadline and make a
move to get this team better?

Speaker 17 (14:42):
That's what's at stake starting today.

Speaker 15 (14:44):
I think with this opportunity, here is Wood he actually
a bit better. Yet here is justin Fields after the
owner of the Jets threw him under the bus this week,
thinking that Tyrod Taylor would be the quarterback. But no,
it's justin Fields here now Fields in response to what
the owner of that team said and not so secured

(15:05):
as tones about his quarterback.

Speaker 26 (15:08):
It doesn't bother me, it doesn't, you know. Of course,
everybody knows. You know, I need to I need to
play better. We need to play better as a team.
And of course, you know, no matter how you know
the offense does as a unit, you know, I'm gonna
get the blame. And I understand that that's just what
comes with the job. But honestly, that's what comes with it.

(15:28):
So you can't let anything kind of affect your mind,
my mind, and that's that's it is what it is,
no matter if it's you know him, no matter if
it's you know, family members, even teammates. Sometimes you're gonna
be there's gonna be times where you have to be
the only one who believes in yourself. So you know,
like I said, that's his opinion. And like I told
you guys after the game on Sunday, I'm at peace

(15:49):
and my focus is right now is working each of
every day and getting better.

Speaker 15 (15:54):
So there you go. He's at peace, which is good.
You don't want somebody coming to Cincinnati in a state
of calm. God knows what could happen, But the fact
of the matter is he's at peace, and I think
that's all it's important. If he's happy. I would think
the teams have.

Speaker 14 (16:08):
Quite Frankly, I don't think the owner was wrong. I mean, no,
Woody Johnson is a horrible truck record. The Jets haven't
made the postseason in fifteen years.

Speaker 15 (16:14):
Could you imagine Mike Brown throwing Jake Browning under the bus?
No after three games?

Speaker 18 (16:18):
Oh, but if he had, what the response have been,
it would have been that's tough.

Speaker 14 (16:22):
He's right, Hey, Mike, you're watching the same game I am.
I mean, you know, I think there's two different issues
there in New York. Woody Johnson's a bad owner. His
franchise has been bad for a long time. It doesn't
matter who the coach has been, the quarterback has been,
it hasn't mattered. But his assessment of Justin Fields was
not inaccurate. And that is a player you just heard. Look,
it didn't work in Chicago, didn't work in Pittsburgh. You
only get so many more opportunities, and so Tyrod Taylor

(16:46):
is obviously not the long term answer in New York.

Speaker 17 (16:48):
He didn't want to come to Cincinnati. But what is what.

Speaker 14 (16:51):
Is Justin Field's future hold if over the next couple
of weeks he just can't turn his individual play around.

Speaker 18 (16:57):
I just wish like he would have just been like
brutally honest, like you know what, that sucked.

Speaker 17 (17:03):
Confidence is real in a little bit.

Speaker 18 (17:05):
I'm gonna try to get it back together, because there's
no way that you can walk into the office after
the owner of your franchise said those things about you
and just pick up and be like all right, back
to work.

Speaker 17 (17:17):
There's no way.

Speaker 18 (17:18):
It just creates awkwardness with from an owner to coaches,
and now the coaches to Justin Fields and Justin Fields to.

Speaker 17 (17:24):
The other players.

Speaker 18 (17:26):
It's why, you know, I think in a game like this,
when you go against the bad team, you take care
of business early. The last thing you want is, as
you describe Mo, Justin Fields with his legs makes a
couple of plays early in this game, and it's like, okay,
kind of feel a little bit better about things, and
then the confidence grows and then you're in another dog fight.

Speaker 14 (17:43):
And if those comments came from Mike Brown about Jake
Browning or any other quarterback, what I would expect is
for his teammates to rally around him. And so I'm
interested rally around the player their teammate. I'm interested if
the New York Jets players believe in Justin field's enough
to have his bat, to rally around him and to
play an inspired game.

Speaker 17 (18:03):
I hope the answer is no.

Speaker 14 (18:05):
But they do have a guy in Breesehall that you
can lean on against the defense that has had a
hard time tackling pretty much everybody that has had a
hard time stopping running backs catching the football, and so there,
to me is the great equalizer. If you get Breesehall
going suddenly, that builds a little confidence. Maybe the Jets
aren't playing from behind. Everybody has said it this week,

(18:25):
everybody that the most Bengals thing ever would be, coming
off the high of beating Pittsburgh, that they allowed the
Jets to hang around and it's a game in the
fourth quarter, and you don't want that to be the
case with this defense, which in the second half of
games hasn't been able to get stops when the game
has demanded it.

Speaker 18 (18:41):
And it's been it's a seventeen. They have bad losses.
They also took that Saint Pittsburgh Steelers team to the
Ropes week one, thirty four to thirty two.

Speaker 17 (18:48):
They lost.

Speaker 18 (18:48):
They have a twenty nine to twenty seven loss against
I think a contender in the NFC and the Tampa
Bay Bucks. So yes, bad losses last two weeks, especially
the offense has been awful, but they do have things
that at least least early in the year they could
look to it and say, how can we find ways to
replicate that? And I think today it's the legs of
Justin Fields and it's the full run and pass catching

(19:09):
game of breezeh Hall.

Speaker 15 (19:10):
Well, Zach Taylor was speaking this week. I don't know
if you're aware of this really, And even though that
Jets defense is banged up, no, Sauce Gardner right right,
and some other guys are nursing what would be described
as as tough injuries, Zach has a lot of respect
for this, this Jets defense. In fact, to quote Zach here,

(19:30):
he is, Oh, they've.

Speaker 20 (19:32):
They've invested there, you know, so you get some high
draft picks. Quinnin Williams is I mean, he's he's the
first one that jumps out at you. I've always liked
Harrison Phillips. Their edge guys do a great job coming
off the edge as well. So just starting with that
front four is a problem and they get a lot
out of them. They're very disruptive. Their defenses played played

(19:52):
really well. I mean you just watch, especially this last
two weeks, they'd really come into these offenses in terms
of points on the board and made these difficult for you.

Speaker 15 (19:59):
So two point loss I think in three of their
losses were two point losses. I watched their game against Tampa.
I mean they kick that, they block the field goal
and return it and then Tampa just marches right down field,
kicks the field goal, win the game. But they have
been competitive defensively, but offensively and this is not germane

(20:19):
just to this year. It has been historically bad, particularly
a quarterback. The last quarterback they had I believe that
took them to the AFC Championship game was Mark Sanchez
Anchester and lucky for him as a parking space now
in Indianapolis. But the fact of the matter is you're
going back fifteen years.

Speaker 17 (20:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 18 (20:38):
The first player that Zach mentioned is what I'm worried
about today, Quinn Williams. Because as good as Joe Flacco was,
quarterbacks struggle at any level with pressure up the middle
edge pressure you can push up, you can get out.
When that pressure comes in your face, it's hard to
drive into the throw, it's hard to navigate the pocket.
And we don't know what the guard situation is.

Speaker 27 (21:00):
Right.

Speaker 18 (21:01):
We saw last week it was Reisner, we saw last
week it was Jalen Rivers. Does Lucas Patrick work back
in the fold? Does a fair child who they took
with a third round draft pick work himself back in
the fold? And if so, are those three whatever the
guards are in Ted Carris, are they able to provide
enough resistance to a guy in Quinn Williams who can
wreck a game?

Speaker 14 (21:21):
And I think what I'm most interested in from a
Bengals perspective is Jamar Chase was awesome.

Speaker 17 (21:26):
T Higgins was great.

Speaker 14 (21:27):
Joe Flacco has breathed life into this offense. But they
ran the ball on hundred and forty two yards Chase
Brown averaged nine to eight to carry. So I guess
what I'm curious is is that gonna end up being
a one off?

Speaker 17 (21:38):
Is that the outlier?

Speaker 14 (21:40):
Or can they build upon that have some success on
the ground, because look, we've all, I think, developed a
level of admiration for Joe Flacco. This cannot go back
while he's quarterback to being a one dimensional offense.

Speaker 17 (21:52):
That was the story of the Pittsburgh game for me.

Speaker 14 (21:55):
This team that hasn't been able to run it at all,
found success against a it's supposed to be a good
Pittsburgh defense. Can that continue today while you're blocking Quinn Williams.

Speaker 15 (22:05):
It could have been You're right, it could have been
a one off. It could have been a matchup. I'm
not particularly impressed with run support from the Pittsburgh secondary.
I thought it was with the whole secondary quite frankly
this week. So it could have been that kind of
a matchup. The only reason why they won that game
is because they can run the football. If they didn't
have that success, all that other stuff, all the field

(22:25):
good stuff from last Thursday night is out the window
because they don't win that game unless they can win now,
I unless they can run now. I mean, was it
a one off? It's the only game this season they've
been able to run the ball. What changed? It had
to be the team they were playing against.

Speaker 18 (22:37):
A lot of the team they were playing against. And
I know we've used this term a ton. The under
center runs. You know, Joe Flacco much more comfortable than
what Joe Burrow is going under center for whatever reason
that may be. But the thing is is that Flacco
gives an ability They're not one dimensional. When he goes
under center, he's capable of running play action, turning his

(22:57):
back to the defense. He's capable of going an old
school under center three step drop and get the ball out.
He doesn't mind the five and seven step. But they
also have the threat to run, and when you do
that to an opposing defense, you're less one dimensional. You
line up in the gun so much, they just haven't
been a good shotgun run team. You line up under center,
it slows that pass rush down a little bit because

(23:19):
it gives them a little bit more that they've got
to read and react to. And I think that's where
they genuinely got some success going.

Speaker 15 (23:25):
But Burrow's if he's not comfortable doing that, And look,
the Flacco run is going to and Burrow is going
to come back. There's no doubt about that. Do you
tell Burrow, look, we got to start doing that because
this is where we're effective. And let's Burrow runs a
lot of what happens in that franchise. Is he gonna say, yeah,
you're right, I'd like to be under centered.

Speaker 28 (23:45):
Now.

Speaker 18 (23:45):
It's one of the most fascinating things that I want
to find out because it goes one of two ways.
Joe says Zach, I'm not comfortable. I'm not going under center,
and Zach either says okay, we'll just keep going out
a gun or no, you need to start going under
center more like who utimate power in that conversation, that's right,
because that's what he's going to come down to. Joe
Burrow didn't go under center at LSU, no least in

(24:07):
the country. Now he comes here and it's been evident
he doesn't like going under center. This team plays better
in Zach Taylor's scheme when the under center play is prevalent.
It was Jake Browning's success all those years ago. So
what happens in that conversation. Does Joe sayn I'm not
doing that, and does Zach push back and say, yes,
we are, or is it you're the franchise player, We'll

(24:29):
figure out ways to do it.

Speaker 14 (24:30):
I would like to think that Joe Burrow is intelligent
enough to understand that it would make sense for the
health of him and the team to mesh the two. Right,
He's never going to take every single snap under center, okay,
but can you take more? And I guess what I
would say to Joe is number one, are you tired
of getting cut on? Are you tired of having surgery?

(24:51):
And like, obviously nothing's going to be fool proof. But
everybody had the same conclusion when he got hurt. They
need to run it more often. They need in order
to do that, they have to run up more effectively,
and the best way to do that seems to be
to put the quarterback under center.

Speaker 17 (25:05):
I would like to.

Speaker 14 (25:06):
Think that Joe Burrow, as great as he is, is
smart enough to go, Okay, maybe there are some adjustments
we and I can make that better protect me, better
set up the team for success offensively.

Speaker 15 (25:18):
All right, Well that's a conversation that will go on
probably for a while, and then after he gets back. Today,
the object of the game has beat the Jets, and
the object of this exercise is to have fun because
we're pregaming here for the Bengals and the Jets. The
Bengals are back home next couple of weeks. They're back home,
and we're back here, and we're back here, We're back.

(25:39):
We're back baby. Look at us, Yes, look at us.
We were once a two man act. Now it's a
three man act again. It's unbelievable. I thought I was
going to have to sit here and talk to you

No, it's awesome honor, awesome honor for all the Hall

Speaker 15 (38:42):
It was overdue. Yes, it was a good class. I
actually remember covering Tom Marveso when he played for the
University of Since you.

Speaker 18 (38:51):
Were talking about an impressive dude he was. In his speech,
it was mentioned that he reached out to UC's strength
coach Friday morning and said, I'd like to come in
and have you put me through a workout.

Speaker 15 (39:04):
How about that?

Speaker 17 (39:05):
Did you off? No? I said, I'm good. I don't
need to work out. He was on that.

Speaker 15 (39:10):
I think he was on that seventy five team. They
just had their reunions. Terrific player. He played for Tony Mason,
who's the head coach there.

Speaker 18 (39:18):
At that point, Dan dan Hord mentioned there was a
game in which he had a special team's return for
a touchdown or punt return for a touchdown, kickoff return
for a touchdown, interception return for a touchdown that got
called back three minutes into the game.

Speaker 17 (39:32):
First three minutes. He was able to do that. But
he is man. He looks like he could still go
out and play. Yeah, man, Friday Friday was awesome.

Speaker 18 (39:40):
I mean, growing up as a Bearcat fan, it's the
ultimate honor you can ever receive, and to do so
with friends and family, and you get to roll Friday night,
which was awesome. I got to see Mo Friday night.
I got to see most Saturday night. You rolled out
all into one.

Speaker 14 (39:54):
That really is the key. Yes, that's why you go
into the Hall of Fame. You can hang out with me.

Speaker 15 (39:58):
People are gonna talk. There'll be a column on that
and they inquire tomorrow.

Speaker 17 (40:01):
You you roll that all.

Speaker 18 (40:02):
Into one and then you get to come down here
this morning and We're already lucky enough to be bestowed
with drinks early this morning, which is, you know, probably
the last thing we need at nine to thirty in
the morning. But it's an awesome weekend, and it made
it better because the football team won and the football
team's playing really, really well.

Speaker 15 (40:20):
You ever worked third shift? This is prime time drinking time.

Speaker 17 (40:25):
I have not.

Speaker 14 (40:26):
I've never worked third shift, but I guess we are.

Speaker 17 (40:31):
I was already had a cigar today, Yeah, my coffee
and cigar. Watching you ignore.

Speaker 15 (40:35):
People, I said, at your lungs. Baby.

Speaker 14 (40:37):
You know we've talked a lot about the Bearcats offensive balance.
Yeah right, one of the most balanced teams in the country,
offensively highlighted by the fact they have one turnover in
six weeks. But when you're balanced, you can lean on
one end of your offense or the other when the
other isn't working. And the Bearcats did that yesterday, and
we were Tony and and Dan were talking during the
broadcast about how offensively it didn't feel like the Bearcats

(40:59):
were as good as they were, but at one point
they had scored one on six of seven possessions. Brendan
Sorosby didn't have a great day throwing the football, but
they ran it effectively. Brendan scored the really the game
ceiling touchdown on a great individual play, then threw a
touchdown pass on another really good individual play. And Tony
said this when Cincinnati was playing Oklahoma State. You look

(41:20):
at that team offensively at least, and there's not a hole.
You know, there might be slight weaknesses, right, We all
wish they would throw the ball to Joe Royer a
little bit more. I didn't hear anything about Evan Pryor's
ankle after the game, but I think they're really hard
to prepare for, and then doubly so because they don't turn.

Speaker 15 (41:37):
It over well. And not only that. Speaking of Brendan
Soresby after the game, they were talking to Soreersby about it.
Something I'd never paid attention to, but it is. It's
kind of interesting. His pressure to sack rate is one
of the highest, if not the highest, in the country.
Here is Brendan Soresby after the game talking about just that,

(41:59):
the pressure to sack ratio. There's a little bit of pressure.

Speaker 49 (42:01):
I can still make a play, whether it's outside of
the pocket, stepping up, running at whatever it may be.
And we got a lot of playmakers outside that can
can do well in the scrambles drill. So it's really
just you know, it breaks down, you kind of feel
it and get out of it and try to do
whatever you can to get.

Speaker 15 (42:16):
A positive play from it.

Speaker 49 (42:18):
Luckily, I've been in too too many situations like that,
with our old line protecting me like they are all.
It takes his little Jeff Rubies and some dinner once
a week and those guys starts to like you a
little bit more.

Speaker 15 (42:28):
The beauty of Niolos.

Speaker 18 (42:30):
They they they're so good up front. But there was
a play on the first drive of the game yesterday.
Linebacker comes on a free blitz and Evan Pryor met
him at the line of scrimmage and pushed him.

Speaker 17 (42:40):
Back like teams.

Speaker 18 (42:42):
I don't know why teams blitzed them at this point,
because it's so hard to get home and when you do,
swords be mentioned there. He's athletic enough to move around
in the pocket. Me mentioned how at times it doesn't
look clean. And yet you look up and they scored
forty one last night. And I'll say this, the third
quarter has been awful for this team. Joe roy I
saw Joe Royer on the field last last night after

(43:03):
the game, he said, we've got to figure out the
third quarter because they've yet to put together a full game,
and the opponents coming up down the stretch, they're going
to have to You're not gonna beat win at Utah playing.

Speaker 17 (43:14):
Two good quarters.

Speaker 18 (43:15):
You're not gonna beat BYU playing three out of four
good quarters at home. What's interesting to me, we've seen
a couple times this year where they go into these
laws and a team scratches their way back against him,
and then Sowresby makes a big play even.

Speaker 17 (43:29):
Though it's been clogging. He makes a big play the
run he had and then to come back.

Speaker 18 (43:33):
I don't think people realize how hard that touchdown throw was.
He put his foot in the ground, drop his arm
angle almost side arm.

Speaker 15 (43:40):
Almost like a pitcher in baseish.

Speaker 18 (43:41):
Yeah, and he mentioned that he said, I got a
text right away from my pitching My baseball coach that
I used to play for, said, I have a quarterback trainer,
but we do waist down stuff. I like to keep
my arm angle where it can be that aspect of
what he can do. And then ultimately their special Teams
unit is a weapon. Well, they have a kicker who's perfect.

(44:02):
Fletcher punted once last night, yeah, and it was fantastic.
And then they're a kick coverage team forces a fumble
late in that game. They're just they're solid on a
lot of different levels.

Speaker 15 (44:12):
I think the most impressive thing is they held the
best passing offense in the country to one hundred and
thirty seventy yards. That was the defensive The whole defensive
scheme to stop that was outstanding. And they ran the ball,
so they cut down on possession time for the other
team one possession.

Speaker 17 (44:29):
The one thing we haven't seen them do.

Speaker 14 (44:32):
You talk about the third quarter lulls, But they've always
been ahead, right, they play from ahead. They didn't against Nebraska.
At some point you would imagine over the next four
or five games, maybe even more, they're going to face
like a ten to nothing deficit or a fourteen to
three deficit, something like that. Are they going to be
able offensively to come back and then to the third

(44:53):
quarter issues catch up to them when they're not playing
for ahead.

Speaker 18 (44:56):
And now again we're waiting in the game time. If
you tuned in a all or you don't even tune in,
if you just look at the big twelve scoreboard from yesterday.
Go look at what Utah did last night to Colorado.
That's as impressive as a half of football as I've seen.
You have to now answer the bell on the road.
And if you can do that two out of your
last three at home, including BYU coming into your building.

(45:17):
By the way, BYU, you're talking about answering the bell.
They were down multiple times by multiple scores yesterday.

Speaker 17 (45:23):
Eventually win.

Speaker 18 (45:24):
Going away from Iowa State, there's opportunities for this team
to fulfill a goal and a dream of playing for
a big time.

Speaker 14 (45:31):
I was thinking about this last night watching Utah versus Colorado.
Not so many Colorado fans in our lives anymore, Wyatt, right,
and so around coach all the noise around Coach Prime, right,
all the noise around God Luke Fickle left.

Speaker 17 (45:43):
Well, I think all.

Speaker 14 (45:45):
Of us would be unsurprised if we found out he
got whack today.

Speaker 17 (45:48):
What about Brian Kellen? Coach Prime is going nowhere? Give
it up?

Speaker 14 (45:51):
The Scott's siderfield Man a look a higher than when
it was made. A lot of folks either shrugged their
shoulders or said this isn't gonna work. A lot of
folks who just assumed at the end of last season
that year three he would be a lame duck. That's
a well coached team. It's well put together roster by
Zach Rant and general manager. And it feels to me
and Tony you go down there in the locker room
after every game, it feels like they genuinely love playing

(46:14):
for him.

Speaker 17 (46:14):
Man, they love they love Scott.

Speaker 14 (46:16):
He's got a shot to be the coach of the
year in the Big Twelve. Like nobody wanted to do
this when last season ended, everybody was talking about what's
the buyout going to be? Is John Cunningham's job safe?
It's not done. You have to avoid a collapse like
last year.

Speaker 17 (46:31):
But for a.

Speaker 14 (46:31):
Dude that nobody seemingly wants to give flowers, to give
it to Scott Ciderfield for a bit.

Speaker 15 (46:36):
I want to get to this because we're running short
on time. Miami won twenty six seventeen. Chuck Martin is
unquestionable coach and one of the best in the country.
They're all alone on top of the MAC and they
play at Ohio one week when Tuesday. Hello.

Speaker 14 (46:54):
And by the way, Miami's roster like the their offense.
I think it's eleven new dudes.

Speaker 15 (46:58):
Yeah, yeah, Well their quarter back as Dea Kwan Finn
ran for a touchdown through for a touchdown Miami after
a brutal start. I mean they overschedule to begin every season.
Five and three, now four and zero. The mac Kentucky
goes down again fifty six to thirty four at home.
They had a couple of first quarter turnovers and then
a play that defies description. It's on all the highlight shows.

(47:22):
You want to see just what defines Kentucky season. One
play in that game that a couple of fumbles inside
the one play. Anyway, Kentucky is now two and five
after the fifty six to thirty four win. Who knows
about Mark stoops in his future. Ohio beats Eastern Michigan
twenty eight twenty one Indiana fifty six to six over UCLA.

(47:44):
Fernando Mendoza three touchdowns, one interception, Aiden Fisher a pick
six on the first pass of the game for Indiana.

Speaker 14 (47:52):
I love this era of college football because you could
pay the players. So guess who's good now? Indiana, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt.
Now everybody thought like the rich are gonna get richer
and the talent's going to be distributed more unequally.

Speaker 15 (48:07):
Not the case anymore is coaches that know how to
play the system. A lot of O line coaches that
just don't know how to play the sism.

Speaker 18 (48:14):
How and to one final point on Scott's Saderfield. As
we're sitting here today, who knows about Stoops at UK?
Who knows about Brian Kelly after that loss at home
at LSU. Who knows about Luke Fikele. Scott's Saderfield's got
this team right back in the top twenty five. They're
going to be in the top twenty going into this week.
A chance to play and still finish at a Big
twelve championship level. And questions again with Brian Kelly, with

(48:39):
Mark Stoops, with Luke Fickel, you see now comes out
looking very good in all of this.

Speaker 15 (48:43):

As you well know, that's brought to you by RNL Carriers.
Visit RLC dot com and make RNL Carriers your global
transportation provider, Tony. Your delivery of the game was.

Speaker 18 (54:13):
The down the Middle pass to Andre Yoshi Vash. Ultimately
enough you could pick sixteen catches and twenty three targets
for Jamar Chase. But what I thought was most impressive
after the game, as Flacco talked about the play down
the middle to Yoshi and said, here's the deal. We
knew at some point they were going to bracket, meaning
double team Jamar Chase and t Higgins. Yeah, and we

(54:36):
knew that when we got that look, I would have
an opportunity to get the ball to Yoshi. So one
to have the understanding when a defense gives you that look,
you got one opportunity to capitalize on it, what the
play being called, and then to capitalize on it and
deliver a great pass. That tells me Flacco has got
a good understanding of what teams are trying to do.
And you can't just double the guys and say, okay,

(54:58):
we don't have an answer. They an answer. It was
Yoshi down the middle and they delivered.

Speaker 15 (55:03):
Did you see, by the way, when you drive four
to seventy one into downtown, just before you get to
the bridge. I saw this the other day. It's it's
a huge billboard andre Yoshi boss. I don't know what
the hell he's selling.

Speaker 17 (55:15):
Mustard? Is that what it is? Mustard?

Speaker 15 (55:17):
What I saw is his big head. It just had
his name and then real smaller underneath whatever he was yelling.

Speaker 17 (55:22):
I passed one today seventy five.

Speaker 14 (55:24):
That is huge Mustard, I thought, And that Tony is
right about that play one forty seven to go, T
Higgins hauls one in twenty eight yards, goes down because
he realizes we can't put our defense back on the.

Speaker 17 (55:37):
T Higgins.

Speaker 14 (55:38):
That game, You look at the box score, you go, okay.
Jamar Chase was otherworldly, sixteen catches, twenty three targets and
T Higgins kind of a footnote. And what I love
about T is, yes, he's being paid an enormous amount
of money, but he signed up to be, in many
respects still the second banana, right, And the players, especially

(55:58):
at that position, they all want to be the number one.

Speaker 17 (56:00):
They all want to be and and.

Speaker 14 (56:01):
And enjoy everything that comes with it. Now Tea in
many respects is being paid like in number one. I
have a hell of a lot of admiration for that.

Speaker 54 (56:09):
Man.

Speaker 14 (56:10):
Uh you know I I'm not gonna get the most catches,
not gonna get the most yards, not gonna get the
most attention, not gonna be the guy people right about
the most. He signed up for that, and I think
there's I think that's why he's beloved among this fan base.
And again, like Thursday last week was another example of
that because on Friday, I'm watching Get Up and all,

(56:30):
and it's all and understandably so Jamar is a remarkable
football player, and it's Oh and by the way, T
Higgins had a good game and made this great catch
and it's glossed over. He signed up for that, which
I think is cool as hell.

Speaker 15 (56:42):
You know what we have to do as well, is
take a look at who's hot in the NFL. Wow,
So not necessarily who's good looking, who's playing well? Brought
to you by plumb tight, fast response times, no service fees,
plumb tight mo. Who's hot in the NFL?

Speaker 14 (56:58):
Well, I'll look ahead to next week when the Bengals
play a Bears team, Oh that's won four straight games
and now this week gets to play Baltimore without Lamar Jackson.
Now Chicago's interesting because their top three corners are hurt.
We'll see if that's the case next week when they
come here, because that could be problematic. But Ben Johnson's
had a positive impact on Caleb Williams. That defense is good.

(57:18):
They're in a very competitive division, but very quietly you
talk about, you know, teams that are sort of a
little bit off the radar. I think Chicago is a
chance to win a fifth straight and that game on
Sunday is setting up as a huge one for both teams.

Speaker 18 (57:32):
And you mentioned that Bears team now going against the
Lamar Jackson lists Ravens team today. Lamar's not gonna play
a good chance for the Bears to go get another
Marque win. To me, there's two New England. You can
make an argument that Drake May is the best quarterback
playing in the NFL right now, just week in and
week out, and if you want to make an argument

(57:53):
against him, you might go to Daniel Jones and Indianapolis Colts.

Speaker 17 (57:57):
It's weird.

Speaker 18 (57:58):
The first couple of weeks it was like, oh, this,
this is a mirage, This isn't who the Colts are.
Guess what, Jonathan Taylor's probably right now the best back
in the NFL. Daniel Jones is playing with confidence, Michael
Pittman is coming into his own. They absolutely nailed their
pick at tight end with Tyler Warren. He's been phenomenal,
and Louey n Rumo has that defense playing at a

(58:19):
very very high level.

Speaker 17 (58:21):
Colts are hot right now.

Speaker 15 (58:22):
Well what he has all of that going for him,
and he's not playing for a coach who's coaching for
his life. And I think when you have some stability
in the coaching ranks, I think that lends you to
maybe be able to perform or the coach isn't putting
you in situations where you're not comfortable. And the third
thing in that at Daniel Jones' equation is he's out
of New York. A lot of athletes simply can't play

(58:44):
in New York. Yeah, they get out of New York,
they do well, they're in New York. They can't stand
the pressure.

Speaker 14 (58:48):
Well, it's life is so much about the circumstances you
find yourself in. Baker Mayfield, early in his career, was
being coach.

Speaker 17 (58:54):
Write that down, clown, Hugh Jackson is what give me that?

Speaker 24 (58:58):
Again?

Speaker 14 (58:58):
Life is often about the sitution with the circumstances you
find yourself. Well that time, So, Baker Mayfield, you're sitting
in between two guys that have happened to that. That
happened to that a lot.

Speaker 17 (59:07):
You know, let me finish the damn point.

Speaker 15 (59:09):
Yeah, finish, go ahead, We've been here since eight.

Speaker 14 (59:11):
I find myself in circumstances where I can't talk. So, uh,
Baker Mayfield ends up in the clown show. That's the
browns ends up going to Carolina all sorts of issues,
and now he's a franchise quarterback. He's being paid nine figures,
he's in the MVP conversation which he had Mike Evans
to throw to and Daniel Jones. It's it's not dissimilar, right,
Get out of New York, get out of that mess

(59:32):
of a franchise. Go play for a guy in Shane
Steichen who's renowned for his work with quarterbacks, playing a
somewhat easy division.

Speaker 17 (59:39):
Play inside for what it's worth, and the career takes off.
I'm done. Go ahead.

Speaker 15 (59:45):
That was a salient point, and I'm glad you've made
no thanks for letting me make it. Actually it was.
It was a point of great sense.

Speaker 14 (59:52):
And in all the years that I have been on
the air with you, how many salient points now have
I made?

Speaker 15 (59:57):
That's three?

Speaker 17 (59:57):
Okay, pretty good? Yeah us that a handful.

Speaker 15 (01:00:04):
Oh my god, I get up early in the morning
for this.

Speaker 17 (01:00:06):
For what you what?

Speaker 14 (01:00:08):
I just wanted to talk uninterrupted for twenty second thought?
Is that too much to ask?

Speaker 55 (01:00:13):
No?

Speaker 15 (01:00:13):
No, not at all, not at all, not at all, no,
not at all.

I'm Sandy Collins breaking now talking about Hurricane Melissa exploding
in strength this weekend, from a tropical storm to a
Category four hurricane. Now the slow moving storm is now
headed directly for Jamaica. ABC News meteorologist Lee Goldberg out
of New York has the very latest forecast.

Speaker 56 (01:01:19):
We are deeply concerned for Jamaica because it's a potential
worst case scenario in terms of the track. We've doubled
in intensity in twenty four hours, gone from a tropical
storm to now a cat for thunderstorms around the center
showing a sign of strengthening.

Speaker 10 (01:01:31):
And the problem is the slow movement, so it just crawls.

Speaker 56 (01:01:34):
They have tropical storm conditions now, and they have it
for two days leading into landfall sometime Monday night and
Tuesday morning, emerging and going to eastern Cuba, after that
over the Bahamas, and then ultimately Wednesday and Thursday into
the Atlantic.

Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
Now, Hurricane Melissa is not expected to hit the US
coast at this point. We'll keep our eyes on it

Speaker 15 (01:08:20):
It is a sea of orange and black. It is
a warm up if you will, for a one o'clock
kickoff between the Bengals and the Jets at pay Corpse Stadium.
And here we are at the Holy Grail where people
are guzzling beer, taking shots, eating food, and predicting exactly
what will happen today at the pay Corpse Stadium formerly
known as Paul Brown Stadium, along with Tony Pike and Moweger.

(01:08:40):
I'm ken Brew and I'll tell you what, I'm so
excited about this game, number one, number one, because the
Bengals are back home, number two. It gives them a
chance to do what get back to five hundred and
puts them in a position to enter their bye week
with a winning record. That's why I'm fired up.

Speaker 17 (01:08:59):
Welcome back in that season. Yeah, you just always just
get to five hundred. See what happens. You got to
get back to five hundred, and we've done that for
years and years ago.

Speaker 15 (01:09:07):
Guys saying you can't get to a winning record unless
you get to five hundred.

Speaker 17 (01:09:11):
You are correct that. You are absolutely right.

Speaker 15 (01:09:14):
You can't continue a winning streak unless there's another win. Profound,
very prefose, not like your life's lesson that we got
in the last half hour, but it is profound. The
only way you can build a streak is to win
a second one. That's why I'm fired up.

Speaker 17 (01:09:29):
Big game, I mean it it.

Speaker 14 (01:09:32):
If they're four and four, I think we will start
to talk about the pathway to the postseason and all right,
where are they going to be in mid December? If
hopefully Joe Burrow is ready to come back. If they
lose this one, you know, all the air is gonna
come out of the balloon. It's going to be framed
as a team that's lost what five out of six
at that point, and it's the disaster of losing to

(01:09:55):
a team that came in excuse me, oh to seven.

Speaker 18 (01:09:57):
Not only that, you lose to this and S team
without Sauce, without Garrett Wilson. That goes down as one
of the worst losses in the Zach Taylor era.

Speaker 17 (01:10:06):
Oh yeah, I mean that.

Speaker 18 (01:10:07):
Oh and it immediately puts the heat that was extinguished
a little bit last week right back on the head
coach and this team. It would be one of the
worst losses, if not the worst, of the Zach Taylor era.

Speaker 15 (01:10:19):
If you go if you win today, you win next week,
you go to the bye five and four, feel great?

Speaker 17 (01:10:23):
Okay?

Speaker 15 (01:10:23):
Okay? Yeah, you come out of the bye, you got
eight games. That tells you if they go five and
three after the buye, they're probably in ways and that's doable.

Speaker 4 (01:10:34):
Yea, it is.

Speaker 18 (01:10:35):
If you get to the buy at five and four,
what do you start talking about at the buye? How's
Joe doing? Joe got a chance to come back. Yeah,
how far away as he from rejoining this team? If
you go under five hundred to buy, don't worry about it,
just just just stay, stay recovering.

Speaker 17 (01:10:52):
Let's call it next season.

Speaker 18 (01:10:53):
If you're five and four, all of a sudden we're
having conversations of, well, can you get by the next three?
Can you get by the next four? Maybe you get
Joe back, and all of a sudden.

Speaker 17 (01:11:02):
Here we go.

Speaker 15 (01:11:03):
You cannot get there unless you win today.

Speaker 14 (01:11:06):
And will they acquire a player who can help them
close to the trade deadline or are we going to
go back to talking about who they can sell off?

Speaker 18 (01:11:16):
And then we get to have the conversation of it's
actually legal to make trades before the actual day of
the deadline.

Speaker 15 (01:11:22):
Listen to us, we're like three giddy people wondering if
the next Taylor Swift album is coming out?

Speaker 17 (01:11:27):
This you don't?

Speaker 18 (01:11:28):
Can you know you don't have to wait until the
actual day of the trade deadline to make moves in
the NFL. Really, you could win today and say let's
strike while the iron hot and let's do.

Speaker 15 (01:11:36):
It now, because that would be typical Bengals.

Speaker 14 (01:11:39):
Yes, you're right about that. What did you make of
the Logan Wilson trade request.

Speaker 15 (01:11:46):
Same thing I made of the Trade Henderson trade request.
Mike Brown isn't done with a player until Mike Brown
is done with the So.

Speaker 14 (01:11:52):
I say it every time Tony and I have joked
about this. You could request a trade. I've requested a
snow cone machine in our studio for a while, haven't
gotten one. So you can make a request. Doesn't mean
you're gonna get it right. I don't blame Logan Wilson.
I also don't view it as this thing that's going
to fracture the team. I think enough of him that
he'll still prepare. It's not like he's not playing. Played
forty six percent of the snaps against Pittsburgh. It's not

(01:12:14):
like he's been entirely benched and forgotten. I understand his frustration.
I expect him to play. I expect him to prepare.
I expect him to do his job. Here's the other
topic of the week. Do you go out and eat
by yourself?

Speaker 8 (01:12:30):
Me?

Speaker 17 (01:12:31):
Joe Flacco says, oh, he enjoys going out and eat.
Mar Chase does not.

Speaker 14 (01:12:35):
Now, Jamar Chase, it's hard if he goes out and
eats by himself. He's flooded. But Joe Flacco, is are
you you good with doing?

Speaker 15 (01:12:42):
Not in town here?

Speaker 18 (01:12:43):
But if I'm out of town, and you know, if
you can't go out intown, can you? I don't county
by yourself. In town, you get just mob Well.

Speaker 15 (01:12:51):
I mean, I I I have, thankfully someone to have
dinner with, but I I don't am a out of
town You're all I'll eat dinner by myself. I do
think that's there's no reason.

Speaker 17 (01:13:00):
I'm going to the movies by myself Tuesday. What do
you gotta say the Springsteen movie?

Speaker 15 (01:13:05):
Oh, oh my god? Why don't you just have that
delivered right to your house? You're like the number one
Springsteen fan in this town.

Speaker 17 (01:13:10):
Yeah, because I want to go see it in the movie?

Speaker 15 (01:13:11):
To you and Bill Hammer, I've never seen two guys
get worked up on about Bruce Springsteen.

Speaker 17 (01:13:16):
Mark.

Speaker 14 (01:13:16):
Now here's the thing about eating by yourself or coming
to a place like this by yourself.

Speaker 15 (01:13:22):
You can't come here by yourself.

Speaker 17 (01:13:23):
You can, but you can't have.

Speaker 18 (01:13:24):
A creepy mustache or yeah, oh oh yeah, I see
you know what? Yeah, the creepiness of mustaches in today's world.

Speaker 17 (01:13:32):
All right, So if you're gonna hang out by yourself.

Speaker 14 (01:13:34):
That's cool.

Speaker 8 (01:13:35):
I do it.

Speaker 17 (01:13:35):
Yeah, you can post up, post up on a wall.

Speaker 15 (01:13:39):
Can we get to Austin your space? Austin Elmore's here?
Do we have some microphone Austin Elmore could speak Mike?
Sorry to interrupt. Can we you have a microphone that
maybe Austin can speak into?

Speaker 17 (01:13:50):
Why don't just give you yours? Well? What just give?

Speaker 37 (01:13:54):
You?

Speaker 17 (01:13:54):
Wanted to talk so bad?

Speaker 15 (01:13:55):
No, he walked in. He's got his Joe Burrow Jersey mustache.
I mean, now now we're complete? Can you guys hear me?

Speaker 17 (01:14:01):
Wow?

Speaker 15 (01:14:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 14 (01:14:02):
Every day if you if you have to drinking beer,
if you have that mustache and you stand across the
street from a school, you're going to attract attention.

Speaker 17 (01:14:11):
Stay away from school.

Speaker 37 (01:14:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 17 (01:14:12):
Yeah, Is that why you brought me on here to
make fun of the mustache?

Speaker 44 (01:14:16):
Yes?

Speaker 15 (01:14:18):
I just wanted to welcome you in. You're there, You're
part of sincey three sixth. You know, I just wanted
to make.

Speaker 14 (01:14:23):
Tony Pike since he three sixty. This is this is
why Austin's awesome. This is a true teammate.

Speaker 30 (01:14:31):
A nerve here.

Speaker 17 (01:14:31):
This is a true teammate.

Speaker 14 (01:14:33):
He shows up to be a part of this show,
right and support us and support a station event.

Speaker 17 (01:14:40):
This is why Austin's invaluable. Didn't make the mustache. Anybody
else here, everybody else we work with here. Wow, we
hang it out right. It's the biggest applause. We've got
to that.

Speaker 15 (01:14:51):
Austin Elmore is tofu He goes with anything, He goes
with anything.

Speaker 14 (01:14:57):
Appreciate that doesn't go to that mustache. My man, we're
gonna get our guy like a Gillette endorsement.

Speaker 15 (01:15:05):
Hey, he looks like butt Abbott. You remember butt Abbott Lastello.

Speaker 18 (01:15:09):
You know what's craziest about all this, though, I'd rather
see Austin and that mustache start at safety over ginostone.

Speaker 17 (01:15:15):
Whoa, that's not even a porn stash.

Speaker 15 (01:15:22):
That's like an extra in a porn This is radio,
so you have to understand people are visualizing.

Speaker 17 (01:15:27):
Your extra extra. You know, I don't know what you
want me to say.

Speaker 15 (01:15:31):
Now I watch. Here's what I want you to say, Austin.
Because I value your opinion. I listen to you and
Tony every day from noon to three on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Your thoughts on just how dangerous or not so dangerous
this game is for the Bengals, knowing that the Jets
have nothing to lose. They're a wounded dog and they're
owing seven your thoughts.

Speaker 55 (01:15:51):
Here's the thing in the National Football League, ken you
can get beat any given Sunday. The Bengals have three
bad position groups or two bad position groups.

Speaker 17 (01:15:59):
And one bad habit Number one.

Speaker 55 (01:16:01):
They can't tackle, They got a bad offensive line, and
they got a bad defensive line. Those three things are
a recipe for getting beat. Now, the Jets are hurt
and they suck, so you should be able to beat
the New York Jets. But if those three things crop up,
it's gonna be a long day.

Speaker 15 (01:16:16):
That's just smartest. That's the smartest thing we've said.

Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
Here.

Speaker 15 (01:16:22):
I know, I know what you're saying. I just wonder
you know you got Justin Fields at quarterback. He doesn't have.
I think both of his top receivers are out for
this game. Josh Reynolds and Garrett Wilson are out. His
legs healthy. Who's Justin Fields?

Speaker 58 (01:16:37):
Oh?

Speaker 15 (01:16:37):
I thought I thought he's got to suit up at
safety today.

Speaker 55 (01:16:40):
Mine are healthy. I believe Justin's are as well. But yeah,
I mean, it's gonna be get get their playmakers out
in space. They're gonna give the ball to Bresall. They're
gonna force the Bengals to prove that they can tackle,
and if they can, you should you know, expect the
Bengals offense to at least continue on the trend that
it's been going against that Jets defense. But can the
defense at any point today get some momentum going going

(01:17:02):
into the Chicago game. I think that's one of the
more interesting aspects of this game.

Speaker 15 (01:17:06):
Ladies and gentlemen. Austin Almar shows up not getting paid
it for free.

Speaker 17 (01:17:14):
Not true, I paid for this.

Speaker 15 (01:17:16):
Oh well really really?

Speaker 17 (01:17:17):
Yeah? And he will sit at a bar and eat
by himself. Yeah so a lie. Yeah did it yesterday, Ken,
no problem, may go out anywhere.

Speaker 14 (01:17:24):
The thing is, when you go out and eat by yourself,
what you invariably get is someone who thinks they need company.
Right Invariably it's like, hey, I know you're eating by yourself.
You look pretty content. Let me come sit by you
and talk to you. It's like, I was really enjoying
the piece and quiet, and so if that happens, I
like it. I I've done on vacation by myself. I

(01:17:45):
had no problem what movie theater you going to Tuesday,
the one closest to my house.

Speaker 17 (01:17:49):
What times of showing? I think it's at eight ten.
You probably want others to come watch it with you.
I'm good, I'm am all right.

Speaker 15 (01:17:57):
Then when he starts singing Born to Run, you can
jump up and down and screamed and yeah, you want
to go with me if you want.

Speaker 17 (01:18:02):
No, I'm not.

Speaker 15 (01:18:03):
I'm not a Springsteen fan, but that's wow.

Speaker 17 (01:18:05):
That's fine. He teach their own.

Speaker 15 (01:18:07):
He's not even he's too modern for you. He's not
even the best musician in this from the state of
New Jersey.

Speaker 17 (01:18:12):
Ray Conniff singers. I mean, you know, now, if it
was a Geene Pittney.

Speaker 15 (01:18:17):
If it was a movie about Frankie Valley in the Fort,
they got a good Broadway show on that, you know.
So could there be a letdown today? Could they be
taking the Jets lightly?

Speaker 17 (01:18:28):
Here?

Speaker 15 (01:18:28):
Now is b J Hill on that topic? Here now
is BJ Hill on that topic? You gotta look past
the work.

Speaker 17 (01:18:38):
I think they're a really good football team.

Speaker 26 (01:18:40):
When you watch them all film, I feel like they've
made some close games, and like I said, you gotta
look past it because they got some really talented players
on that team.

Speaker 15 (01:18:48):
Yeah, well he's gonna probably see a faceball today at
Breese Hall. But we'll see. I mean, we'll see.

Speaker 17 (01:18:55):
So you know, it's ready to play the best seventeen
in NFL history.

Speaker 14 (01:18:58):
Good dude, listen, just on, just once. I want a
coach to go.

Speaker 17 (01:19:03):
These guys stank.

Speaker 14 (01:19:04):
We're not even really gonna watch film. Nope, Uh, we're
gonna We're gonna roll these guys. We're hoping to play
our backups, Like, don't even bother me with this. We're
gonna give our guys Wednesday off practice.

wind Shulers cheeseread.

Speaker 15 (01:24:24):
Where do you go to get these things?

Speaker 14 (01:24:26):
Any area grocer like Kroger, Crossers, tons of wind Schoolers.

Speaker 17 (01:24:30):
There, there we go. This is that's orderly. You work
for win Schulers, you get two?

Speaker 15 (01:24:38):
Yeah, good, have three, but you got to get to
the store before June thirtieth of next year, so hurry,
yeah yeah.

Speaker 17 (01:24:47):
Now then here we go. All right, we're on the
air right now.

Speaker 15 (01:24:51):
Yeah, okay, yeah, you're fine, that's okay, all right. Hell,
the way things go, you could be a great car.

Speaker 17 (01:24:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (01:24:58):
Look at how every piece of the is important, particularly
in today's game Donado's Pizza, where every piece is important? Tony,
what piece is important to the Bengals today?

Speaker 18 (01:25:09):
This game to me, screams T Higgins, Because we know
Jamar Chase got targeted twenty three times last week. Aaron
Glenn would be committing malpractice if he didn't come into
a game plan to try to limit the easy touches
for Jamar Chase, and we've historically seen when a team
comes in and says we are going to try to

(01:25:30):
take Jamar Chase away. That is where t higgins value skyrockets.
That is where T Higgins becomes, Hey, this is why
you paid me the money that you did. Jamar is
not gonna get sixteen catches, at least I don't think
he's going to get sixteen catches today. T Higgins is
gonna get one on one opportunities. Joe Flacco is gonna
give him opportunities.

Speaker 17 (01:25:48):
Can he make the most of them?

Speaker 14 (01:25:50):
Interior offensive line play for me? Tony at the top
of the show talked about Quinn Williams, who they may trade.
He's not having a great year, but he's a three
time pro bowler. He can wreck everything you're trying to do.
Had twelve sacks from the inside of that defensive line
a couple of years ago. So, all right, are the
Bengals going to run the ball as effectively as they
did against Pittsburgh or at least reasonably close? Quinn Williams

(01:26:12):
is gonna have a lot to say about that. How
the Bengals block him is going to have a lot
to say about that. And you want to put pressure
on Joe Flacco. I think it's more likely to come
from up the middle. Can the Bengals guards and can
Ted Carris keep Quinnin Williams off of Joe Flacco?

Speaker 15 (01:26:27):
Oh, those are all legitimate thoughts. I think, really and
truly is how they cap down on the Jets running
attack because the Jets are going to want to run
the football for a number of reasons. Their best offensive
player is Brice Hall. He's banged up. The best way
to keep another team's offense off the field is to
control of the clock and run the ball.

Speaker 17 (01:26:43):
Yeah, no question.

Speaker 14 (01:26:44):
The Bengals are allowing seven point eight yards per reception
to running backs this year, which isn't good.

Speaker 17 (01:26:50):
You know, all the mistackles bad, it's awful.

Speaker 14 (01:26:53):
And so I look for Breece Hall on the ground,
But also I'm looking for easy completions for a team
that doesn't have their top two receivers. I would imagine
they want to involve Breeze Hall in the passing game today.
And when teams have done that to the Bengals, it's
been bad news for Cincinnati.

Speaker 15 (01:27:07):
Time to look at what happened in Cincinnati sports on
this state that's brought to you by pedal windows and
doors making life brighter. Pella, Now pay later, bo I
know you have researched this extensively. What happened on this state.

Speaker 14 (01:27:21):
Fifty years ago today? Fifty fifty years ago today? The
Atlanta Falcons turned the ball over seven times. Bengals had
five interceptions, one of them by new Ring of Honor
inductee Lamar Parrin. He was a good one, and Cincinnati
improved as six and zero with a twenty one to
fourteen win over the Falcons in Atlanta.

Speaker 17 (01:27:43):
It was on this date nineteen ninety seven.

Speaker 14 (01:27:45):
Ninety seven, Eric b Enemy set a franchise record for
with a one hundred and two yard kickoff return for
a touchdown.

Speaker 17 (01:27:52):
Eric will be in town next week, running backs coach
for the Bears.

Speaker 14 (01:27:55):
Bengals did not win the game, lost to the Giants
twenty nine to twenty seven at the Metal Lands that year.

Speaker 17 (01:28:01):
It was on this date.

Speaker 14 (01:28:02):
In two thousand and three, Chad Johnson hauled in a
pass from John Kidna at fifty three yards for a touchdown,
gave the Bengals a fourth quarter lead they would not relinquish,
and a twenty seven to twenty four home, went over
the Seattle Seahawks.

Speaker 15 (01:28:14):
And it's Chad in town today. I think he is
I think he is good.

Speaker 14 (01:28:19):
It was on this date eleven years ago Andy Dalton
scores a fourth quarter touchdown on a sneak to give
the Bengals the lead for good, twenty seven to twenty
four over the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 15 (01:28:28):
Remember that day, then you originally known as Paul Brown's
dating Wow. So this is a Monu metal day in Sinety.

Speaker 17 (01:28:34):
Scour October twenty sixth, Man, I bet you Dalton, you
say he's starting today?

Speaker 14 (01:28:39):
You know what also happened on this date thirteen years ago? No,
I went on my first date with.

Speaker 17 (01:28:46):
My wife.

Speaker 15 (01:28:48):
And she came back for a second. Obviously, where did
you go here?

Speaker 17 (01:28:51):
First day?

Speaker 14 (01:28:52):
We came here to watch She's an Ohio State fan,
you see, had played on Friday and we came here
to watch the Buckeyes played the Adneye Lions.

Speaker 18 (01:29:00):
Oh it's not you, we both find Ohio State fans. Yeah,
it's it wasn't intention. Now I've made it my life
goal to change that. Since we've met, I have too.
Has it worked?

Speaker 17 (01:29:11):
You know?

Speaker 14 (01:29:12):
She roots for the Bearcat? Yeah, because she wants me
to be happy. So here you goo, thirteen years ago
and employed and employed? Yes, thirteen years take that.

Speaker 15 (01:29:19):
For granted, thirteen years ago more, that's great. And how
long you've been married?

Speaker 17 (01:29:25):
Uh, it'll be in eight years in January.

Speaker 15 (01:29:28):
Oh, you're a newly white, but by and large you're
a newly white.

Speaker 17 (01:29:32):
Well, if you combine both marriages, it's funny.

Speaker 15 (01:29:34):
Well, you know some things you never stopped paying for.

Speaker 17 (01:29:41):
It's sat at that table right over there.

Speaker 15 (01:29:43):
Okay, that's nice, man. So you haven't forgot?

Speaker 17 (01:29:46):
Did Ohio State win? I don't know. I know, weren't
you weren't worried.

Speaker 14 (01:29:50):
Here's how, honestly, God, here's how I knew she was
a keeper. So we watched this Ohio State came here
and I'm like, all right, this is going pretty well.
And she looked at me and she goes, are we
going to stay to watch Oklahoma Notre Dame? What a
girl says that?

Speaker 26 (01:30:01):
Like?

Speaker 14 (01:30:01):
Keeper, Yeah, Hey, we've been watching football for four hours.
Let's watch some more football at your bar that you
go to winner, keeper, I knew right then and there you.

Speaker 15 (01:30:12):
Were down on you were down on one navy before
the night was over, you know, when we come back.
When we come back, we'll be joined by our prognosticator extraordinary.

Speaker 17 (01:30:23):
Oh yeah, Sterling, I got some stuff for Lee.

Speaker 15 (01:30:25):
He's got five.

Speaker 14 (01:30:26):
There's one game I want to ask him about one game.

Speaker 17 (01:30:29):
Okay, there's one game.

Speaker 14 (01:30:30):
I really want his thoughts on five games that are winners.

Speaker 6 (01:34:05):

Speaker 67 (01:34:07):
State Republican leaders say they're investigating. A video posted by
the Hardin County GOP showed Barack and Michelle Obama's faces
edited onto the bodies of apes. County chair Bobby Coleman
admits she shared the video, saying it was meant to
celebrate Donald Trump, but calls it a mistake she regrets.
In a statement, Coleman apologized for amplifying offensive imagery and

(01:34:29):
insisted she does not support racist tropes. The Republican Party
of Kentucky called the post vile and reprehensible, says it
will take the strongest possible action against those responsible. I'm

Cornerback Sauce Gardner from the University of Cincinnati out. Also
out in this game is wide receiver Josh Reynolds. Also
out for this game is their other talented wide receiver,
Garrett Wilson. And that's just the tip of the iceberg
for the Bengals. A lot of players doubtful, a couple

(01:39:40):
of questionable. It looks like everybody is good to go,
including Trey Hendrickson, who was rooting, i mean limited in
practice this week. He had that hip injury from a
couple of weeks ago. He missed the Steelers game, but
he's it looks like he's back today. And we'll start
at the Pennsylvania as you know, every Sunday at this

(01:40:01):
time we bring in our prognostic hator d Luxe from
paramounts Sports dot Com. Here he is Lee Sterling. How
are you on this glory is Sunday?

Speaker 25 (01:40:12):
I couldn't be any better?

Speaker 8 (01:40:14):
You mentioned last week, but before that we went four
and one the week before and the three weeks before
that a perfect five.

Speaker 25 (01:40:21):
And oh so we are on a I call it
a mind numbing.

Speaker 8 (01:40:25):
Twenty three in two run here in the NFL. So
let's think if it continues. If anyone wants to hop
on board, don't wait too late. You can be able
to get on the train. So go on twenty three
and two the last five weeks. You can get five
games every single Sunday, the games that I'm personally playing.
We're gonna go over the high profile games here, but

(01:40:47):
if you want the games that I'm personally betting and
giving my paid clients five games for four weeks, you
get them texted to you immediately, just one hundred and
ninety seven dollars paramount sports dot com. And when you
go to the website Paramount sports dot com cook on
purchase picks, you'll see it's the first option. It says

(01:41:07):
leave NFL Sunday Golden ticket.

Speaker 15 (01:41:11):
And when this man says October, he means it. It's
it's the last Sunday at October, but he means October.
And it's certainly been that way for Paramount Sports. All right,
let's get to it. Let's stay inside the AFC North.
You got the four and two Bears at the Ravens
who are one in five and coming off of buye. Now,
this game opened at Ravens minus six and a half,

(01:41:32):
but then the news broke yesterday. No Lamar Jackson. They
listened him as full go and practice on Friday, and
apparently he wasn't. That's a whole different problem for the league.
They'll look into that. So now it's Snoop Hunley, who's
been with the Ravens on three different occasions. Snoop Hunley
is going to get the start here for the Ravens today.

(01:41:53):
Ravens have a lot of other problems besides Lamar Jackson.
But how are you seeing this game? It's now Ravens
minus two against the Bears.

Speaker 8 (01:42:02):
Until I see Baltimore showing me something on offense and defense,
they're one in five. Straight up, they're minus fifty in
a scoring margin here and teams off of a layoff
off of a bye check this out. You think, all
of a sudden, oh, you rest up those injuries, you
come out ready to play. Not the case. Since twenty eleven,

(01:42:22):
teams off of a bye are one hundred and eleven
one hundred and forty and nine. That's forty four point
two percent. You're living under a bridge. If you're betting
teams coming off of a bye, I'm picking Chicago. I
love what Ben Johnson is doing here.

Speaker 25 (01:42:37):
I think they can win the game out right.

Speaker 15 (01:42:38):
Twenty seven six, twenty seven to twenty six, they win
it out right, that'd be five in a row for
the Bears, and they're coming to town here next Sunday.

Speaker 10 (01:42:46):
Steelers are four and two.

Speaker 25 (01:42:47):
They're at home.

Speaker 15 (01:42:48):
They're getting three from a Packers team that is four
and one. Aaron Rodgers, I don't know if you saw this,
but he says he's a piece now with the Packers.
He's going to retire as a Green Bay Packer when
that day comes. That's the good news team. The Steelers
have scored seven or fewer points in the first quarter
for fifty six straight games, So the Packers can score points.
They got to get the drop on the Steelers early.

(01:43:08):
How do you see this one playing out?

Speaker 8 (01:43:11):
Well, he's a piece with it because he's not with.

Speaker 25 (01:43:13):
The Jets anymore.

Speaker 8 (01:43:14):
With the Jets pro he wouldn't be a piece with it.
So trust me, he's studying, he's putting in extra time.
He's going to give you, I think his best shot here.
And I think he's going up against the defense other
than Michael Parsons who at three sacks last week. I'm
just not impressed. I think they might have, other than
the Dolphins and a few other teams at least bottom

(01:43:35):
five cornerbacks in the NFL. So they have a bunch
of guys out there that are right there.

Speaker 25 (01:43:40):
Sometimes they just.

Speaker 8 (01:43:41):
Can't make a play on the ball. And then on offense,
Jordan Love since week one, since they just punched Detroit
in the face.

Speaker 54 (01:43:49):
They've done absolutely nothing.

Speaker 8 (01:43:50):
And he's got a slew of receivers. They're twos, threes,
and fours, but there's not even you know, there's no
there's no number one on that receiving We're here, Yeah,
another room favorite.

Speaker 15 (01:44:04):
Phisburgh straight up twenty eight, twenty four, twenty eight, twenty
four Steelers and Rogers in another revenge game. I can't
figure out lee if the Broncos are living on the
edge or if they're a really good five and two team.
They've been penalized I think seventy three times so far
in seven games. They're at home today, they're giving three
and a half to a Cowboys team that is three

(01:44:24):
three and one but not very good on the road.
How's this one playing out in your mind?

Speaker 8 (01:44:29):
Oh, last year there were eight to zero against the spread,
it's a favorite. This year one in four against the
spread in that favorite role. People figured out the playbook.
I mean the off season. Trust me, the staffs that
these teams have, They run simulations, They know how teams
call plays in certain situations over and over again. And

(01:44:51):
Nicks is gonna have Bonicks. You're going to have to
make a jump to the next level if they want
to be competitive and get into the playoffs. They have
trailed entering the fourth quarter in each the last three games.
Doesn't mean they're gonna trail after three quarters for the
rest of the year. But they do it against this
Cowboys team, they're in trouble. Cowboys are averaging thirty one
point seven points year. I'm a roll team. Favorite taboys

(01:45:13):
straight up? How about them Cowboys in twenty eight.

Speaker 15 (01:45:15):
Twenty seven, twenty eight twenty seven, another barn Burner, Dallas
would go to four three and one with that. This
is this is a game that before the season began,
this next one, I thought, you know, this is really
going to be a good one. Commanders at the Chiefs.
Chiefs are at home. Commanders don't have Jaden Daniels. He
is out, Kansas City's finding its stride. But man, that

(01:45:36):
is a fat twelve and a half They've got to
give up to the Commanders. That number just frightens me.

Speaker 8 (01:45:41):
What about you, Yeah, Marcus Mariota, I mean does a
nice version of Jayden Daniels. He can still run, makes
pretty good decisions here. Looks like they might get back
some of those receivers here. That's too much too anything
above seven and a half the NFL, usually you're playing
the dregs of the of the league and not the

(01:46:01):
case for the Commanders here. They have talent on this team,
just having put it together here. I'm taking the points here.
I think it's a close game. I have the Chiefs
one in this game, something like thirty to twenty four
I think the Commanders are going to give you.

Speaker 15 (01:46:16):
A tight game. Okay, So take the Commanders and take
that twelve and a half. All right. By the way,
we've got the Jets in town. If you haven't heard,
I'm not sure the Jets know they're in town. They're
so terrible. Their owner through Justin Fields under the bus
this week. Bengals get to five hundred with a win today.
But the Jets are historically bad, and they're historically bad

(01:46:36):
on the road through the last ten or twelve years.
I'm looking at this game. It looks like a complete mismatch.
The Bengals are giving six and a half. But games
like this, I've lived through enough of these in Town Lee,
They're not as always they appear to be.

Speaker 25 (01:46:52):
Well.

Speaker 8 (01:46:52):
I think the only chance to the Jets have here
is they need.

Speaker 25 (01:46:56):
To unleash brace Hall.

Speaker 8 (01:46:57):
I think he's their best player on the team. If
he can rip off two long runs, they have a chance.
But other than that, I mean Tyrod Taylor, I mean
better Dinaty days were at least four or five years ago.
He's a backups backup at this point in his career.
Their receivers not getting any separation at all, and I
think this team believes in Joe Flackar right now. Trust me,

(01:47:20):
if the Jets try to blitz them, they are going
to be in trouble here. They're just going to have
to mix up their own coverages. And I don't think
that's good enough here. And he goals they keep rolling,
then move them five hundred twenty seven to seventeen.

Speaker 15 (01:47:33):
Twenty seven to seventeen, don't worry about the points. And
by the way, those are five games that Lee really likes.
But if you want his game of the week, get
a hold of them. Your game of the week, these
Colts and Titans. That's the one you've got really good
analysis on, right Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:47:48):
I found something that most people won't even look at. Here.
Do the Colts role they're laying fourteen? Do they win
this by twenty thirty points? Or can the Titans second
game between inner division opponent? Can they keep it close?
First five callers it call eight hundred, four hundred nine
to seven pour one get the game for free eight
hundred four hundred nine to seven. Four one likes to

(01:48:10):
jump on that. Lee's NFL Sunday Golden Picket one hundred

Arnold Carriers pre game show Live from the Holy Grail
on the banks of the made Ohio, presented by your
Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky toy You the Dealers, Welcome back.
Wow Joe Pleko. Everybody's got Joel Plecko Fever? Are you
gonna call Joe Plecko, what are you gonna be for Halloween? Ken,
Joe Plecko, I'll tell you what. Another game like last

(01:53:43):
now week's game against the Steelers, Jamar Chase might go
out for Halloween as Joe Blacko Chase on Joe earlier
this week.

Speaker 76 (01:53:52):
From be honest, Joe barely talks in the locker room.
He talks them are on the field in the locker room.
But he just brings a better mindset to the game
of from the quarterback puisition and knows what he's doing
when he sees it. That's the biggest thing.

Speaker 19 (01:54:07):
You know.

Speaker 76 (01:54:08):
It feels like Joe when he's out there, just because Burrow.
It feels like Joe Burrow when he's out there, just
because he knows the catass. He knows the gap scheme,
the blitz schemes, the pickups. So he does a great
job on all that.

Speaker 15 (01:54:22):
How about that kind of reminds him of Joe Burrow.
That's tide praise in this town, Tony.

Speaker 18 (01:54:27):
What do you think that the guy's seen everything across
his span in the NFL. Nothing a defense does is
going to confuse him. And I liked what Joe Flacco
said earlier in the week. He said his main focus
is to simplify things and play fast, and we've talked
about that for a long time, simplifying things for this offense,
Jamar Chas and t Higgins need touches.

Speaker 14 (01:54:46):
And it goes to show that what the Bengals were
looking for was what they needed to be looking for
when they were looking to replace Jake Browning. They were
looking for somebody with experience, professionalism, and who could be
a quick study. And Okay, there might have been sexier
name out there, there might have been more athletically gifted
quarterbacks than Joe at this stage in his career, but
what you knew was Number one, there's nothing this guy

(01:55:08):
hasn't seen on either side of the ball. Number Two,
he'll understand the assignment. Jamar Chase is open throw it
to him. Number Three, He's just gonna have a level
of professionalism that you can lean into. I thought they
won the game against Pittsburgh in part the previous Sunday,
you know, because the question was, all right, they got
him on toosday, idea really throw them to the Wolves

(01:55:29):
against the Packers, And my take on it was, you're
not gonna win that game.

Speaker 17 (01:55:33):
Use it as a preseason game.

Speaker 14 (01:55:34):
Get him on the field with those guys so he's
not going in cold against Pittsburgh. I think you have
to give Zach Taylor credit. Nobody ever wants to do that,
and I've beat up on Duke Tobin for a lot
of different things. They identified the right guy. I don't
know what Plan B would have been had Cleveland said no,
but what they were looking for has paid dividends.

Speaker 15 (01:55:54):
Let's salute, if we could, the performer of the week
last week. It's brought to you by Crown Royal. You
ever had Crown Royal a few? Crown Royal is the
official whiskey of the Bengals, bringing the spirit to every
game this season. Now, Tony, I'm guessing I don't know
that you had a Crown Royal once or twice I have.
Who would you think we should salute as the performer

(01:56:16):
of the week from last week?

Speaker 18 (01:56:17):
This was hard for me because I look across the
NFL and I was stuck between two. Came Taylor, BRIT's
gonna be second for me and his role in last
week's game. I'm going to go bow Knicks of the
Denver Broncos Nicks thirty three points. They scored in the
fourth quarter last week, remarkable thirty three points. And he
did it with his legs, he did it with his arm.

(01:56:39):
Their backs were against the wall. And anytime you put
up thirty three and one quarter in a National Football
League game, that's incredible stuff.

Speaker 14 (01:56:47):
So I would lean to bownicks the Jamar Chase. You know,
you could look at the numbers. You could look at
Jamar Chase's numbers last year and go, God, he must
be good. Right won the Triple Crown. You could look
at his performance, look at the numbers against Pittsburgh and god,
he must be good. What is that box score not
tell us he threw two blocks on one play on
a long run by Chase Brown. I think there are

(01:57:07):
certain players you have to really watch to appreciate how
good they are. Jamar Chase is an awesome football player.
It is at times degree of difficulty, it is at
times facing double teams. It's it's easy to say, boy,
Jamar is really good. I love watching him. Plays hard,

(01:57:28):
does all the little stuff, runs every route. Low Maintenance
has taken on this role of like leader and spokesperson
for the team in the absence of Joe Burrow. Like
I've already. We're all huge Jamar Chase fans. I've walked
away from the last couple of weeks with an even
deeper appreciation for how good he is.

Speaker 15 (01:57:47):
It's a diva position and he is a low maintenance yeah,
and you know for that matter, so he's even lower
than that.

Speaker 17 (01:57:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (01:57:54):
But I mean, you don't see or hear's some of
the nonsense from Chase that you see and here from
some other wide receivers in the league. It's like, you
know what, I'm here to play football. I know what
I can do. Give me the ball. I'm just gonna
go do my job.

Speaker 14 (01:58:07):
That play where he he blocks for Chase for Chase
Brown and then outruns him on the sideline to throw
another block.

Speaker 17 (01:58:14):
How many wide receivers do that?

Speaker 15 (01:58:16):
None?

Speaker 45 (01:58:16):
How many O?

Speaker 14 (01:58:18):
How many Okay wide receivers do that? How many great
wide receivers do that? Like just football player.

Speaker 18 (01:58:25):
I just it'd be easy for him to be like,
you know what, Yeah, Joe's hurt, I'm gonna get mine
and I'm gonna move on.

Speaker 17 (01:58:32):
I've already got my contract. We've seen guys in this
town do that. Jamar Chase doesn't.

Speaker 18 (01:58:36):
Yeah, I thought I thought last week was as much
about him what he can do on the field, but
him embracing the role as a leader on this team.

Speaker 15 (01:58:44):
In the next half hour, we're going to go go
down some of the games in the NFL, so I
can't wait. And we're also going to look deeper, perhaps
into the strategies as we talk a little strategicy about
this game today.

Speaker 14 (01:58:55):
Pay course, I've reached out to some of my friends
in the gambling world, Chauncey Billups and and you know
some of these guys who are in trouble in the Terry.

Speaker 14 (01:59:20):
I was playing the bags on their head Jets fans, Wow,
let me do it makes it hard to drink.

Speaker 17 (01:59:25):
With that bag on your head.

Speaker 15 (01:59:26):
Now to develop that technology, does anybody think that that
was the only card game using an X ray table?

he said from the banks of the Mighty Ohio at
the Holy Grail, And you know Joe Flacco. When they
traded for Joe Flacco, he got the word. It must
have been like a phone call from the governor. You
mean I get to leave Cleveland. Yeah, you mean my
number one wide receiver down there won't be Jerry Judy. Yeah,
you mean I get to throw to Chase, I get

(02:07:49):
to throw to Higgins. Yeah, here's Flaco this week.

Speaker 27 (02:07:52):
On all of that, I the first thing that jumped
out at me about both of them, Ansley, was just
their hands. I know it sounds simple, but the way
they catch the ball, the way they attack the ball
when it's in the air and then catch the ball
with their hands, it's.

Speaker 25 (02:08:09):
Very, very impressive.

Speaker 27 (02:08:11):
When you put the ball out there, you have confidence
that they're going to go get it and beat whoever's around.

Speaker 15 (02:08:17):
Maybe the most cerebral quarterback the Bengals have had since
Ken Anderson. He just analyzes things so well mentally and
then verbalizes it so well.

Speaker 18 (02:08:28):
There was this like down to earth moment that he
shared on the set after Thursday Night Football, where you know,
he's already come off very relatable to everyone, and he
said there was a point after the Packers game during
the week where he's just talking on the phone to
his brothers and his friends and just like gaulking at
the abilities of Jamar Chase and T Higgins, much like

(02:08:50):
I would imagine many quarterbacks would, but like, just here's
a guy who's been in the league forever, he's won
a Super Bowl, he's been at the mountaintop, and just
like sharing his ex experiences of how excited he was
talking to family and friends about being able to play
with a guy like Jamar Chase and T Higgins. It
just kind of opens the window into the guy that

(02:09:10):
he is and how exciting it is for him.

Speaker 14 (02:09:13):
He talked on the Friday before the Green Bay game,
and it was his first availability here since the trade,
and he just you could tell that he understood the
absurdity of the situation that he found himself in, which
I appreciate because it is absurd. Right, the team has
been mostly non competitive the previous three weeks. He was
traded for on Tuesday, he's learning the offense while in

(02:09:35):
a car coming down from Cleveland. He's got to play
on the road against the Green Bay Packers. Like you
could tell he understood, like this is ridiculous, but he
also I watched that and thought, this guy understands the opportunity.

Speaker 17 (02:09:48):
This guy understands the opportunity. He's gonna jump into this.

Speaker 14 (02:09:51):
He's gonna put his put everything he has into getting
ready to play. And it it just to me, even
though they lost that game, it felt like what they
did just seemed to breathe life into the locker room.
I cannot imagine what it would have been like had
they said, you know what, we're gonna give Jake Browning
one more week.

Speaker 17 (02:10:10):
And look, man, I think.

Speaker 14 (02:10:11):
There's a lot of us that half expected the Bengals
to do that, right, because it's the Bengals. They're not
the most proactive organization. So they I said, this last hour,
they needed somebody who could be a quick study and
bring a level of professionalism into a very tough set
of circumstances, and he did. It feels like life has
been breathed into the fan base and now it's game on,

(02:10:32):
Like the they have a chance to make the postseason.
Joe Flacco is maybe not the only reason why, but
he's a major reason why.

Speaker 15 (02:10:39):
Please, for the love of Tom Brady noticed, I didn't
say God, but there could have been. Okay, leave the
man alone if he's eating dinner by himself, or leave
him alone or anybody else, anybody else, but I mean nobody,
you know, don't stalk the guy. He told you where
he goes to eat something. Just leave him alone when
he's eating dinner. I'm just saying that.

Speaker 17 (02:10:59):
Just sure, just you know, no I or just send
him over a drink.

Speaker 15 (02:11:05):
Just send it over now, Oh yeah, they get him
drunk before practice.

Speaker 14 (02:11:08):
You don't want to do that a drink. I'm not
talking about buy him shots. Send him over a beer.
Let's find out what his drink of choice is and
send it over.

Speaker 15 (02:11:18):
What if his drink of choice is not something alcohol?

Speaker 17 (02:11:20):
Okay, that's fine too, then, you know, I mean.

Speaker 15 (02:11:22):
All something so quick. The guy's here three weeks. Let's
not get him like, let's keep him stone cold sober,
because this guy sends a drink. That guy sends a
drink and all of a sudden leave him alone.

Speaker 17 (02:11:34):
Have you ever hung out anywhere?

Speaker 52 (02:11:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 17 (02:11:36):

Speaker 72 (02:11:38):
Yes?

Speaker 17 (02:11:38):
You ever been in an establishment and had a beer?

Speaker 15 (02:11:41):

Speaker 17 (02:11:42):

Speaker 14 (02:11:46):
If he says no thanks, okay, that's cool, all right,
just do that. Send over a drink. How about an
appetizer or whatever, Send a dessert, send it over?

Speaker 15 (02:11:55):
Yes, yes, a little more in line. You know, everything
doesn't have to revolve around hey, send the guy a drink,
because that's not how well.

Speaker 17 (02:12:02):
Have you ever bought someone to drink?

Speaker 15 (02:12:04):
Yes?

Speaker 17 (02:12:04):
Okay, did you get him drunk?

Speaker 15 (02:12:05):
No? Well it was it was a priest. He wasn't
going to get drunk. Some of the pre sign up
pregame sports Talk has brought to you in part the

we have to talk about today's players Spotlight God, and

that's Anthony Muniosh steal by the way, get the guaranteed
low price or it's free at furniture fair. Who's our
spotlight player today, Demetrius Knight.

Speaker 75 (02:12:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 18 (02:12:38):
I mean as much has been made about Logan Wilson
moving on, he wanted to move on because Logan Wilson's
not getting reps.

Speaker 17 (02:12:44):
He's not the guy for the future. That's what they
drafted Demetrius Night to be.

Speaker 18 (02:12:49):
And in a game today, as MoU outlined early, justin
fields with his legs a lot of Breese Hall, You're
going to be put in one on one situations if
you're Demetrius Knight, can you break down and can you
make the tackles?

Speaker 17 (02:13:01):
He had four misstackles against Pittsburgh.

Speaker 10 (02:13:03):
He was terrible.

Speaker 14 (02:13:05):
What they've done at linebacker is interesting. I certainly hope
there's a payoff to these guys going through growing pains.
Very simple for me Gino Stone. They've benched Cam Taylor
britt They've cut the playing time of Logan Wilson. They're
trying stuff. Yeah, I haven't tried anything new at safety,
that is the position. Like they said, ryder or Die

(02:13:26):
with Genostone this offseason as them to take a pay cut,
had no plan be in case?

Speaker 17 (02:13:30):
He said no.

Speaker 14 (02:13:32):
The angles he takes are terrible. He's bad in coverage,
he's not a good tackler. How long is this going
to continue? And by the way, they shouldn't exactly threaten
them with a ton of downfield stuff. If we're talking
about what can the Bengals get at the trade deadline.
You can make a case for pass rusher, you can
make a case for offensive line.

Speaker 17 (02:13:51):
But to me, I need better safety play. And it's
also the team watching.

Speaker 18 (02:13:56):
We've seen other veterans benched, Yeah, over the last couple weeks,
on both sides the ball in lieu of giving other
players opportunities. If you're one of these players that's been benched,
and you watch the tape of Genostone last week and
now he's trotting back out there today, what's your message?

Speaker 17 (02:14:10):
If I was Logan Wilson, I could play safety, right.

Speaker 18 (02:14:13):
Why is he getting It's on a similar level the
same question we asked about Matt McLean all year, Right,
Why is everyone else being held accountable when the Reds
Matt McClain is not. Why is Genostone not being held
accountable the way the others are.

Speaker 15 (02:14:25):
My spotlight player today is not playing. Oh, my spotlight
player is Dave Lapham. Dave Lapham is going into the
Ring of Honor today. He should have gone in at
least a year ago, and maybe two years ago. He
was on the All half Century team for this franchise.
Is one of the starting guards. I believe the other
was Max Montoya, who was at the game today. And

(02:14:48):
that's my spotlight player who continues to broadcast and broadcast. Well,
I've said this publicly, I've said it to Lapham. He
could have gone anywhere he wanted with his talent. He
could have he could have been on Sundays on CBS
or Fox. He chose to stay here. And so he's
my spotlight player for an honor today that is long overdue,

(02:15:09):
not just as a player, but as a broadcast.

Speaker 14 (02:15:12):
We just lost Jim Kelly color Man on on uc broadcast,
and what we all said about Jim was perfect gentleman, right,
just literally somebody. I've never heard anybody say a crossword
about the same applies to Dave lapp You called games
with him, and I was thinking about this driving here today.
You know, back in the nineteen nineties, those were some

(02:15:32):
really dark years. The home games were never on televisions, right,
and I would still as a high school kid and
as a college kid, those games still really matter. And
listening to lap you always felt like, let's face it, now,
every game's on TV. Everybody goes to the games, there's
no blackouts. But you know, back then, if you didn't go,

(02:15:53):
I hate to say stuck, but your way of consuming
the game was on the radio. And as a younger guy,
this is before I ever knew him, you felt like
in the booth you had somebody on your side who
cared just as much as you did. And then getting
a chance to know him do some work with him,
I could not agree more. I'm thrilled for him. I'm
thrilled for his family. Congratulations to Lamar Parris as well.

(02:16:15):
But Dave Lapham fifty years with his organization, it's awesome.

Speaker 18 (02:16:19):
And much like Jim you mentioned, no one has a
bad thing to say. Also, what an unbelievable representative of
the organization through everything about UC football was Jim Kelly.
When you think about the Cincinnati Bengals as a player,
as a broadcaster, more importantly, as just an ambassador in
the city. Every time you see him, he's got Bengals
gear on. Every time you see him, he's talking about

(02:16:41):
the Cincinnati Bengals. He is so gracious with his time
when he meets folks or spends tick. It's just it's
unbelievable how not so much his career and broadcasting, but
just the great ambassador for the city of Cincinnati and
the Bengals that he's been.

Speaker 14 (02:16:57):
Alan Cutler used to do the pre and post game,
so I think Allan Color might go to the Ring
of Honor next year. But Alan coined the nickname Mister
Bengal for Dave Lapham. Uh, And it's true. Years ago
they did a mock game in Georgetown and he was
calling him with brad jo Hansson, and I remember watching
at the end of it, all of these players and
fans are accessing them, and the guy who had the

(02:17:18):
most people around him was Dave Lapham. And he was kind,
he was courteous, just a great dude, terrific broadcaster. And Uh,
I'm glad you said that, because he's getting a moment
today that is well well overdue.

Speaker 15 (02:17:31):
As is lamar parents, we overdue something else I've said privately,
I'll say it publicly. The luckiest broadcaster in the entire
world is Dan Horde. He's got Lapham, he had Jim Kelly,
and now he's got this guy here.

Speaker 18 (02:17:46):
He's been pretty good. Yeah, so don't screw it up, Tony.
He's been pretty good. Dan makes it pretty easy on everybody.
He does it easy.

Speaker 15 (02:17:53):
You're listening to the Arnel Carriers Terry Nelson too, Yes, well, yeah,

I gotta have hallway plans will be in Salt Lake.

Speaker 17 (02:21:55):
You and I are we gonna do anything in Salt Lake.

Speaker 15 (02:21:57):
Oh, you're gonna be tricker treating at Salt Lake City.

Speaker 8 (02:21:59):
Yes?

Speaker 15 (02:22:00):
Oh, well, you know one thing you're not getting there.
You're not getting a free drink at the bar.

Speaker 14 (02:22:06):
It depends.

Speaker 17 (02:22:07):
Don't put it past us.

Speaker 15 (02:22:08):
I don't know if it's I don't know if it's legal.

Speaker 17 (02:22:10):
And salt they have they have bars in Salt Lake City.

Speaker 15 (02:22:14):
I will last they do. I was the last place.
The last time was in Salt Lake City. You had
to like go outside the bar to like this little
cubby hole where there was a woman handing you airline
bottles of liquor, and then he went back inside the bar.
This is the Arnel Carriers pregame show presented by your
Sincinnati Northern Kentucky. I give out the big hershey bar.

(02:22:35):
Do you give out real real big I've always done that.

Speaker 17 (02:22:37):
Yet do you dress up your house like all spooky
and stuff?

Speaker 8 (02:22:40):
No?

Speaker 17 (02:22:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 15 (02:22:40):
I don't go that bar. In twenty twelve, I also
gave out autograph cards of myself that I was at
Channel five at the time autograph cards with a candy bar.
I swear to god, this kid gets the candy. He
gets the card, and he runs down to his mother's
at the end of the driveway says, Mommy, mommy, look
it's Mitt Romney. Highlight of my life. Let's go over

(02:23:03):
some of these games in the National Football time. All
right in Carolina today you got the Carolina Panthers getting
seven against the Buffalo team of this lost two in
a row. What do you think, Tony?

Speaker 18 (02:23:13):
I love that the Carolina Panthers are above five hundred,
but this feels like a get right game for Buffalo.
Andy Dalton is going to start for Carolina. The Bills
have some questions that need to be answered. I think
they start answering those today. I agree with everything he
just said. I wrote down get right versus Andy Dalton.

Speaker 15 (02:23:30):
San Francisco is in Houston. This can't be right. I
have Houston giving two and a half. That can't be right,
is it.

Speaker 14 (02:23:36):
Mac Jones improves the five and one. You talk about
finding the right set of circumstances for a quarterback. Kyle Shanahan,
Mac Jones, tons of injuries both sides of the ball,
San Francisco wins again.

Speaker 15 (02:23:47):
Christian McCaffrey healthy. Yes, it's all that matters, all right.
The New York Giants in Philly. Philly's giving center, giving seven.
I think Saquon Barkley runs all day on Austin Elmore's team.

Speaker 14 (02:23:58):
They're healthier than they were when they played him two
weeks ago. New York just melted down in the fourth
quarter against Denver. I think Philly wins and covers.

Speaker 18 (02:24:06):
Feels like a game where everyone's starting to wonder if
Philly is slipping. Sirianni makes a statement, they get some
revenge on the Giants. I think they win big.

Speaker 15 (02:24:15):
Yeah, and Barkley really hasn't had a breakout game. I
think this could be the day for it. New England
is at home against the Browns and New England is
giving seven. And I think we said earlier Drake may
maybe playing the best of any quarterback in the NFL.
Right now, New England minus seven, what do you think, mo?

Speaker 14 (02:24:31):
I think they can make the Browns one dimensional. Dylan
Gabriel has played Okay, this isn't a defense he wants
to face. I think the Pats cover the seven points.

Speaker 18 (02:24:41):
Yeah, This one for me is tough because of how
good Cleveland's defense has been and the emergence of Quinn
Shawn Judkins. I think that's enough to keep this game close.
New England wins.

Speaker 15 (02:24:54):
I got the Browns to cover Baltimore at home, giving
two and a half to the Bears. Bears who won
four in a row. This game started at minus seven,
it's now minus two and a half because Lamar Jackson
is not playing Snoop Hunley Tony. If Snoop Hunley is
still in the NFL, I think there's a spot for you.

Speaker 17 (02:25:13):
Tyron Taylor is as well.

Speaker 18 (02:25:14):
He threw for one hundred and forty yards in the
eighth nine Orange Bowl in a win for the How
did you play in that game?

Speaker 17 (02:25:20):
Not great? Not great?

Speaker 18 (02:25:22):
But Mike Mickens was getting in the Hall of Fame
as well. This weekend gave him a seven point lead.
They couldn't hold that. So not all about the offensive
receptions all the time. Oh my god, No, I think
the Bears just way too much for Baltimore to overcome.
I think this is the straw that might break things
in Baltimore.

Speaker 14 (02:25:38):
I felt good when I got Chicago in six and
a half. Line has fallen to two and a half.
I think this is a game that eliminates the Baltimore Ravens.
Give me Chicago. They come here on a five game
winning streak.

Speaker 15 (02:25:48):
Next week, Miami at Atlanta, Atlanta's giving seven. Last I heard,
it was still a possibility that Kirk Cousins plays in
this game for Atlanta. I don't know if they've made
a call yet, but it could be Cousins. Kirk Cousins
is in this game.

Speaker 18 (02:26:02):
Kirk Cousins knows that the best way for his team
to succeed is Drake London Bejhon Robinson. Miami's a dumpster fire.

Speaker 17 (02:26:09):
They have quit. I'll take a land.

Speaker 14 (02:26:10):
The Dolphins are on pace to allow more than twenty
seven hundred yards on the ground this year. That's not
a good equation when you're playing a team that has
Bejon Robinson and Tyler Algy.

Speaker 15 (02:26:20):
Kirk's got to keep it between the numbers. He starts
throwing you out out routes in that that's where he
falls apart. Tampa is at Newing at New Orleans. New
Orleans is getting three and a half at home. Tampa
did not look good last week, but they're a good team.
They don't have Mike Evans. They may get Godwin back.
Don't know that sounds like game time, but they're in
New Orleans and giving three and a half. What do

(02:26:41):
you think, Tony?

Speaker 18 (02:26:42):
I like Tampa. I like the makeup of this team.
I like Baker Mayfield. I like them rebounding after a
tough loss. Not the healthiest team, but I think they
have more than enough in this I.

Speaker 14 (02:26:50):
Think the week is too short for Tampa. Baker Mayfield
was hit a ton I'll take the points. Give me
New Orleans for twenty five game. This could be a
good one. Dallas at Denver. Denver giving three and a
half and the number in this game is phenomenal. It's
fifty one, and I think I'm taking the over. What
do you think, Tony.

Speaker 18 (02:27:06):
Dallas's defense is abysmal, but their offense has been unbelievable.
What they have in pickings with Ceedee Lamb is elite.
You just wonder if they could use maybe in a
pass rusher on that Dallas team to help them out
instead of the one they lost in Micah Parsons too much.
Denver riding high after thirty three in the fourth last week.
I'll take Denver to cover.

Speaker 14 (02:27:25):
Boy the Broncos were atrocious for three quarters. They did
come back and win. I just don't know how you
can bet on Dallas's defense. I'll take the Broncos fat.

Speaker 15 (02:27:33):
Number in Indye Indye giving fourteen and a half to Tennessee.
I stay away from anything that gets into double digit's.
What are you doing on this one? If anything, I.

Speaker 14 (02:27:42):
Don't think fourteen's enough. No, I think Indie hammers Tennessee.
This number could be sixteen and a half in idlea
gimme the Colts.

Speaker 18 (02:27:51):
Brian Callahan's not walking back through that door for Tennessee.
That's a lost team without him. He maybe one of
the Colts. He may be walking through a door here.

Speaker 17 (02:27:57):
You never know.

Speaker 15 (02:27:58):
Sunday Night football green Bay is that Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is
getting three at home and they haven't played obviously since
that we can go Thursday night.

Speaker 17 (02:28:06):
To me, this is everything that screams. Green Bay goes
in and wins.

Speaker 18 (02:28:09):
But for some reason during his career, it's a game
that Mike Tomlin finds out how to win. Aaron Rodgers
has made sure to know let everyone know it's not
a revenge game for him. But I think there's a
little bit extra in this game for Rodgers, I'll take
them in a close one over green back.

Speaker 14 (02:28:24):
Jordan Love twelve TDS no picks on Sunday Night Pass
a rating of one twenty one point one. I don't
think the Steelers are good. The AFC North Race Titans Packers.

Speaker 15 (02:28:34):
Win, all right, and we got the Jets here today.
Come on, the number is still minus six.

Speaker 17 (02:28:41):
Disrespectful.

Speaker 15 (02:28:43):
I think that I think the same way you feel
about the Indie game. I think I think this could
be named the score for Cincinnati. What do you think?

Speaker 14 (02:28:50):
I think the back door opens. I think the Bengals win.
I think the Jets stay with you think.

Speaker 18 (02:28:54):
I love the Bengals today. I love what they can
do offensively. This Jets team is ready to roll over.
They're playing without their two best players and a quarterback
who the owner wishes could just complete one pass. That
is not a recipe for success. I think the Bengals win.
I think the Bengals win big cover. And I think
we're talking tomorrow about a five hundred Bengals team.

Speaker 17 (02:29:16):
Don't wait till the deadline. Don't get help now on
the Tonian mo Football Show at three o'clock.

Speaker 28 (02:30:34):
Good afternoon, and welcome to Countdown the Kickoff on the
Cincinnati Bengals Radio Network for today's matchup between the New
York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals. I'm Wayne Box MOLLI you
count down the kickoff host and it's the long awaited
Ring of Honor Game one that will include our colleague
Dave lap Him along with his former teammate leave Me
Lamar Parris, seeing their names unfurl inside the stadium. But beware,

(02:30:56):
there's a desperate football team on the other side looking
to spoil the Sarah. The winless Jets have lost the
last two games by total of only nine points, so
they're not quitters and I'm sure they're feeling like they're
getting closer to the first win of the season. The
Bengals are looking to go two in flack O at
home building on a Thursday night performance against the Steelers

(02:31:17):
with a double ruler of the Jungle Day. The pay
Course Stadium will be rocking standing by with the call

colleague Dave Lapham Lap Congratulations and Dan.

Speaker 17 (02:31:27):
Is a big game all the way around.

Speaker 42 (02:31:30):
No doubt about it. Box, It's today we've been looking
forward to for a long time. There are ten names,
there have been ten names up on the Ring of
Honor and it's going to become twelve at halftime. Right now,
there are a couple of black tarps up there that
will get yanked down. They practice this a few days ago,
we understand, just to make sure everything goes smoothly. And
later today we'll see Parish twenty that was his uniform number,

(02:31:52):
and Lapham sixty two. Lap You've been involved in some
great celebrations with friends and family and former teammates of
the last couple of nights. Now the big moments coming
up at halftime.

Speaker 82 (02:32:04):
It is Dan.

Speaker 15 (02:32:04):
It's kind of like the you know, the.

Speaker 82 (02:32:08):
The end of a of a week, basically almost a
week of celebrations and ceremonies. And uh, I'm glad that
the day is here. Excited about the football game. I'd
love to see the Bengals going a two game winning streak.
That would be nice. I would hate to have a
Ring of honor ceremony with a halftime trailing at halftime

(02:32:30):
or looking looking like gloom and doom.

Speaker 14 (02:32:33):
But it is.

Speaker 17 (02:32:35):
It is what it is.

Speaker 82 (02:32:35):
It's the National Football League, and that's the thing. New
York Jets own seven football team. But as we know,
Dan own seven doesn't mean Diddley squad in the National
Football League on any given
