Get Me Afternoon. Welcome to the Bengals pep rolly So
presented by Just Bear Chicken, live on ESPN fifteen thirty
on the Bengals Radio Network. Waybox Speller Dave Lapham, glad
to have you bored. It is a beautiful post Thanksgiving Day. Yes,
after a convincing, impressive, however you want to say it,
thirty two to fourteen win over the Baltimore Ravens. He's
(00:52):
bye number nine. You're wondering, will there be a little russ?
Will there be this? Will there be that? Dave Lapham,
There may have been a little timing here and there,
but all in all he said, I'm who I was
when I left, and I'm who I am.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
But going forward, no doubt, Joe Burrow is the man
and when he came back, he lifted everybody. He lifted
the defense. I mean, the defense played their best game
of the season by far, definitely the best game under
Al Golden's you know, leadership, and it's been a while
since they played to this level. I mean, Baltimore Ravens.
(01:32):
This this is the hell of the football team. You
hold the Baltimore Ravens with Lamar Jackson at quarterback at
home to fourteen points, shut him out two quarters, shut
him out in the second quarter, shut him out in
the fourth quarter. Bengals score in every quarter, field goal
in the first quarter, nine points in the second, fourteen
points in the third. They had two possessions in the
third quarter and went the length of the field two
(01:55):
touchdowns on third quarter. They were unbelievable offensively, and really
they got outscored in the first quarter seven to three.
After that, nothing, fourteen to seven, six nothing. You hold
the Ravens without a point in two quarters at home
(02:16):
and don't allow ten points in any quarter. And the Bengals,
I mean they scored, they scored thirty two points against
this Baltimore raven football team. That this defense that is
is so proficient. I mean, you know, Zach Orr has
done a hell of a job for the Baltimore Ravens.
(02:37):
They the last few weeks, they've been shutting people down.
I mean they've they've been not allowing anything. They've even
giving up any significant yard ager points in any game.
And the Bengals put it together. They had their best
offensive performance against maybe the best defense that they've played
against this year. And I think a lot of it
is because Number nine was back, you know, and he
(03:00):
got in a rhythm in the second half. His first half,
he said. I talked to him in the locker room
after the game, and he said, his rhythm is timing.
He didn't feel quite right, you understandably. Yeah, ball wasn't
coming out of his hand the way he wanted it to. Uh,
he wasn't on point with his reeves. There was a
little bit of hesitancy, you know, a little bit, Oh man,
(03:20):
Am I sure I'm seeing what I'm seeing? My I
seeing it the way I'm supposed to be seeing it.
And then in the second half that that all went away.
He just he just let it roll and uh. And
he he put together some hillasious drives and and made
some great players. But the thing that you look at
when you see Joe Burrow, he's he's been out for
(03:42):
a while now. I mean it's been a period of time.
It played the first two games of the year, they
win them both, and then he gets hurt. Been out for
a bit. In the beginning, you know, it's like, all right, well,
he's hesitant in the pocket, not quite sure. Then when
he started to get his rhythm and timing. He's a
dual threat. This guy can hurt you with his feet
(04:03):
and his legs as well as his store and arm,
you know. And in the second half his accuracy started
to come back to him a little bit. I think
he felt real confident cutting it loose. You know, he
read it, he saw it, boom, got it out of
his hand and and put the ball in perfect spots,
you know, right shoulder, left hip, right knee, wherever he
needed to put it, that's where he was putting it.
(04:24):
So it was encouraging. But and then talking to guys
in the locker room after the game, it was all
about Joe. Yeah, you know, our leader is back. Yeah,
and he's a difference to Maker man.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
And I tell you what a couple of things for
me when you would talk about that I said jokingly,
because everybody's safe now. The only time Joe Burrow got
stopped was on the tarmac on the way too Bartimore.
Yeah right, I mean God, other than that, nobody stopped him.
And the thing that I said about Joe Burrow that
blows me away is we're all sitting here saying, hey,
(04:55):
we understand your first half. You're trying to find right him.
He did accept that. No, he doesn't accept that for himself,
like he makes a perfection. Yes, he expects to walk
out there and pick up where he left off right,
And there's only a handful of guys that he reminds me,
And I just hate comparison, but just for the sake
of the moment, he reminds me so much of Tom
(05:17):
Brady and just what he does and how he acts
and the games, the games in the bag. Yesterday there's
something that happened. I don't know if it was an
off side of something, and he's upset. It's like the
games on the line, Like what do you call you
caught up in the Yeah, and that's Tom Brady. I remember.
I think it was Edelman that that dropped the ball.
They were up like thirty points. Yeah, He stares at
the guy, like you just cost the super Bowl. But
(05:38):
it's those guys the way they expect perfection from themselves
and from others, like every play matters.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
They raised the bar, you know, I mean it's it's uh.
The performance level of their teammates goes up because they're
so proficient, they're so good at what they do. There's
demanding of themselves and they say, basically without saying it,
they're they're saying to their teammates, Look, I'm gonna go out,
I'm gonna bust my ass. I'm gonna give you everything
(06:08):
I have every single snap. I'm gonna be the most
prepared guy on the football field. If you don't want
to do that, if you don't want to come with
me on this journey, yeah, tell me right now. You
know I don't want you, I don't want I don't
want you to be part of it. But if you're
gonna give me everything you got, we can. We can
live with that. We'll work with that.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
I tell what else he can work with. He can
work with Mitchell Tinsley, Jalen Davis, Miles Murphy, Joseph Osaia
playing the way they did yesterday, I'm gonna tell you,
Miles Murphy looked like this dude was showing the reason
why he was drafted. And I remember saying to him
at the beginning of the year, not that I have
anything to do with it, but I just said, Myles,
do what got you drafted? Yeah? Just played the way
(06:46):
that you got drafted because a guy that big running
Lamar Jackson down and then getting downfield to get after
Derrick Henry. I mean this dude was moving around that field.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Oh yeah, I mean his his uh, his foot speeders
at the that you know, that's the thing about him.
Talked to him in the locker room. He was one
of the guys I talked to in the post game.
And he's very intelligent man, very thoughtful, you know, really
thinks about what he's going to say and how he's
going to say it. I really, I really respect him.
I really like the guy, and his teammates love him.
(07:17):
You know, he's quiet, he doesn't really say much. He
doesn't really you know, he's very humble. He doesn't really
blow his own horn. But man, when he was in
college doing his thing, he was explosive and quick first
step quickness, changed direction, and he's good sized guy. He's
(07:38):
not like he's a little dude.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Man.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
He's a good sized guy and he's got size speed
ratio that's rare and got drafted high because of it.
And I think, you know, I think he feels the
pressure of I'm not living up to expectations, and I
think he understands that. He knows it. Like I said,
he's no dummy. I think he's very aware of what's
(08:01):
going on. Al Golden likes him a lot. He knows
that if you can tap into those resources that he has,
he's going to have something special on the edge. But
Murphy and Osai, I mean Osai two sacks, quarterback hit,
quarterback hits as well, quarterback pressures, Yeah, forcing fumbles, I mean,
unbelievable game. Unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
He had, yeah, two sacks, four quarterback hits, two tackles
for lost, one force fumble. And I tell you what,
we all thought that Joseph Osai could be this Joseph
o side he came in the league. He sacks Tom
Brady down to Tampa Bay and everybody goes, look at
this guy come off his edge. It was really for
him just a matter of staying healthy enough and be
on the field because he has a high motor and
(08:43):
he has a desire to get to the quarterback. It's
a matter of now learning the game and staying healthy
while learning. But I think Miles Murphy Dan asked him
in an interview a few weeks back, do you think
because you're so cerebral that maybe you you know, sometimes
you get what they called pickers was just by analysis
thinking too much. It looks like now he's finally somewhere
(09:04):
in there. He said, Hey, I'm just gonna go play football, right,
And you have said this, I've said it, everybody says it.
When your time comes, and it will come. I don't
know when. Could be this week, could be five weeks
from now, whenever. Be ready, yep, Jalen Davis ready, Mitchell
(09:25):
Tinsley ready. And that's what this is about, man. You
just don't football. You can get hurt on any play
more so than any other sport. You really have to
be prepared, right.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
And before we get to those players that you're talking about,
and a good point. They all stepped up. So many
guys got an opportunity to show what they can do
and increase their snapcount during the course of the game
for various reasons, and they all they all made plays.
I mean they realize every snap they gets valuable and
they're going to try to maximize every single one of them.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Now, Golden look.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
At this performance, He'll look at tape outs of the
game and be like, hey, man, youse, guys are giving
me a lot.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Man, they give me everything they have.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
The same with the Edge guys we just talked about,
Trey Henderson, wasn't there. Trey Henderson is the dominant guy.
He's the guy that he's the Grand Pooba man, He's
the guy everybody else bows down to. Well, he wasn't there,
creating havoc off the Edge, you know, and Lamar Jackson's blindside,
Lamar having to look for Trey Henderson. So these other guys,
we're gonna get more opportunities in rotation of snaps without Trey.
(10:27):
Their snap count increased. And you have Osai and you
have Miles Murphy saying, more snaps, more opportunity to do something.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
This is my chance, like.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
You're talking about, this is when I can show people
I can play this game. I've always been able to
play this game. This game's not too big for me.
Paul Brown used to say that son like you a lot,
but the game's too big for you. Yeah, we're gonna
have to go in another direction. I heard him say
that the guys when he cut them, you know, son,
(10:57):
you know, patting him on the back, give him a
little hug. The game's too big for your son. Nothing personal.
But we're moving on. Sound like Don Corleoni. Yeah, all right,
we'll take a break. This is the Bengals pet Rally

on the field after one game suspension, became the target
of Joe Burrow right away. Seventeen targets and uh he
gets seven catches for a hundred and ten yards and
just the guy makes some great catches. He spoke to
the media after the game last night.
Speaker 6 (12:14):
It was good being back out there first series. I
was a little winded, though, but other than that, fl good.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
What what was like seeing Joe.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Come You seem like you found us really did you
really game of How did you see him play in
his first game?
Speaker 7 (12:30):
Overall, feel like we could have capitalized him a lot more.
I'm pretty sure he could say the same. But I
still think he did a good job of just keeping
him on menum going when he had the opportunities to
keep it going and capitalizing on no situation for the offense.
Speaker 8 (12:48):
He ended up with a hundred at built the number
was way well over a.
Speaker 9 (12:52):
Hundred against them, and and you seemed to continue to
do that every time you're playing for.
Speaker 8 (12:57):
What you know and what's the reason then do what
quick it your warn want couple?
Speaker 7 (13:03):
Uh, I was pretty much it was pretty much man
the whole game. If I'm be honest, it it was
just man man combo. Safety was just cheating over pretty
much the whole time. But today it was just about
making the contested catches.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Really what it was about.
Speaker 7 (13:16):
I gotta do better on you know those other two
that I had opportunities on And that's the only way
that you know I could. I could get big plays
and down the field.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
It's gonna tell you like a.
Speaker 10 (13:25):
Third downs when you know Joes your quarterback, you know,
how's that go to change change away?
Speaker 9 (13:29):
You know you finished routs or sau.
Speaker 7 (13:33):
It's a it's it's it's it's a little different than Flaco,
cause when Joe's there, I know where the ball going.
When Flaco is there, I don't for real. So it's
it's like when Fla Go was back there, I gotta
win every route.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (13:44):
When Borough's back there, I know where the ball's going
off the coverage with boroughs in there is that type
of word.
Speaker 11 (13:50):
You got so many years in the bank that like
it said just if you know it cause you've done
it for so many years.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
I I could say, yeah, repetition help.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Yeah, it's more in all season.
Speaker 9 (13:59):
You guys got got controment every football and need your
offense and defense. One of the first game after the defense,
make it.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
Safe to say kind of carrot you live on? Yes,
the first turnovers? Yeah, second thing after you get.
Speaker 5 (14:10):
Those two touchdowns?
Speaker 9 (14:11):
Yeah, how good was to see you guys who play
countin every tackball?
Speaker 7 (14:15):
First off, I think our defense been doing good to
pass through two three weeks, just giving us opportunities after
opportunities to make a player f for east job and
just put a bo point on the board. They been
doing a good job. But as far as today though,
they we go. We gotta capitalize more off those turnovers.
They giving us the ball multiple times, we gotta capitalize
over those or what.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Do you think give the feeling is like in general?
Speaker 12 (14:37):
Who the team with the Burroughs out there?
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Is there? Is there just a different feeling for for
the guys as the team that you can could sends tonight.
Speaker 7 (14:44):
Yet because he was the quarterback again, yeah, I would
say yeah, just because everybody loves Borough. You know what
I'm saying, so it's a little more urgency when he's there.
You know, I wanna say urgencies, urgency is more up
when he's there.
Speaker 10 (15:02):
Is that interesting five hundred pot at tens years?
Speaker 9 (15:04):
Why do you let you play in the tents?
Speaker 7 (15:06):
I would say, so, Yeah, we know how he is,
so we know what he likes and how he likes it.
So you know what I'm saying, it's pretty much we.
Speaker 13 (15:12):
Know there's a hope perious week having this kind of
where know when y'all he don't.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Have adult when and how did they come back?
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Include in a better position?
Speaker 10 (15:19):
Who's up kind of know where?
Speaker 4 (15:20):
How to how those games?
Speaker 1 (15:21):
You I know how long y'all was to life?
Speaker 6 (15:25):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 7 (15:29):
We know those games that you know we didn't we
didn't finish off strong on. We know we supposed to
have those, but we can't.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Worry about it.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
We just gotta finish what's in front of us.
Speaker 6 (15:37):
Right now to put ourselves in the best position for
the future.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Which where do you throw?
Speaker 13 (15:40):
You feel like cut him knowing that you know, should
he have in most go.
Speaker 7 (15:44):
I'm not even sure. I'm not even sure. I can't
even tell you off the top of my head. I
know first straight out the gate. We was just trying
to get him throughing movements, getting him movements and just
getting like easy easy catches going going for him.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
Who cut trades? You you?
Speaker 6 (16:01):
I love Cheato man, I love Cheeto.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Bruh.
Speaker 7 (16:03):
Me and Cheato go way back. He's been working with
me since my rook years, so there's always nothing but
but beloved and competitiveness. When I'm gon get Cheto, Yeah,
where you guys were going at it?
Speaker 4 (16:13):
Who you did?
Speaker 7 (16:14):
We were going at it. He just held me on
one of the plays. I didn't get the flag, and
I'm like, Cheeto, you know you held me?
Speaker 1 (16:19):
But he like, M how how?
Speaker 6 (16:20):
So you know that's my guy.
Speaker 14 (16:22):
Though.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
It's a pretty cool.
Speaker 14 (16:23):
Spot come backs that a lot of injuries.
Speaker 13 (16:25):
You know, last couple of years he was playing at
judious deal. How cool was you see is kind.
Speaker 7 (16:29):
Of come back and me And that's uh, It's good
just seeing anybody go through adversity and from a injury, man,
cause we as an athlete, it's not easy going through
injuries and coming off it and feeling the difference and
your mentals all over the place. So I absolute to
him and everybody else that just came back from injury.
Speaker 6 (16:43):
That what he said seems like Dreel was probing me
and fight cit again.
Speaker 13 (16:47):
Droel was probably little more flighting about tonight and.
Speaker 11 (16:50):
Him coming back this injury then he has been the
previous points.
Speaker 13 (16:53):
Is that see Jersey, I.
Speaker 6 (16:57):
Don't know, y you think he's emotional?
Speaker 7 (16:59):
Sit he was hiding it from me then, cause I
ain't see that.
Speaker 6 (17:04):
Yeah, yeah, I ain't see that.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
You said you wanna eat any of the turkey?
Speaker 13 (17:08):
Trust?
Speaker 14 (17:08):
Did you?
Speaker 15 (17:09):
Any? I?
Speaker 6 (17:09):
I it was not that bad. If I'm being it
was not that bad.
Speaker 7 (17:13):
All of my life watching the game on Thanksgiving, I
would see players make the crazy face after they bite
it cause it was not good.
Speaker 6 (17:20):
So, but that was It wasn't that bad. Maybe I'm hungry?
So who knows?
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Is that a bucket list going before you eat turkey?
After a window? There?
Speaker 6 (17:28):
It was a bucket list?
Speaker 11 (17:29):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Yes?
Speaker 10 (17:30):
What does it say about your old I mean, never
would play pe? Why don't you say White Shore coming back?
Speaker 4 (17:34):
Y'all?
Speaker 9 (17:34):
Three day, y'all boss, fourth straight?
Speaker 1 (17:36):
What's you say about the.
Speaker 13 (17:37):
Y'all that you were able to come out throw that
behind you and have.
Speaker 10 (17:39):
That kind of fools against Uh.
Speaker 7 (17:45):
We've been in this positions before, like tryna fight ourselves
out of adversity, to get ourselves in a in a
in a in a playoffs, just to get ourselves a
better picture for the future. So you know, we at
the end of the day, we need Joe, Joe needs us,
and we gotta make it work somehow, some way and
just get ourselves set for the future.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
All right. That's Jamar Chase meeting with the media. One
of the things I heard laugh when he's talking about
the comparison between Joe Flack on Joe Burrow. He says,
you know, I had to figured it out where Joe
Flack or with Joe Burrow, I know, And it reminded
me of you know, people always said, well, why can't
you stop Kelsey and Mahomes, And it's they're reading the
same thing. If he gets inside leverage, he knows what
(18:25):
to do. If he got outside leverage on he knows
what to do the same thing with these guys, right,
I mean, they're both reading the same thing on the defense,
So the decisions for them is like we're in.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Lockstep, absolutely box great point and uh you know what
point well taken. I mean, like you say, Mahomes and Kelsey.
They've taken thousands of snaps together. They play together a
while now, and they see the game through the same
set of eyes. I mean, they know exactly what they're
(18:55):
looking at when they come break the huddle, come to
the line of scrimmage, they're taking a picture of football
field and you know, pre snap, read and after the
snap if it changes, they're on the same page. They
know what they're gonna do, why they're gonna do it,
because the coverage rolled, whatever the case may be. Well,
that's the same thing with Chase and Borrow. Those guys.
Go back to LSU. They've taken a myriad of snaps
(19:19):
I mean thousands and thousands of snaps together. Three years
at four but three where they played together, the varsity football.
You know, all kinds of snaps together. And in the
sec we're talking. You know, LSU, that's good football. That's
not you know, that's not rinkydig stuff. That's just a
(19:40):
cut below maybe the National Football League. But they saw
a lot of different defenses, a lot of different coverages,
a lot of sophistication, and that that part of it.
They also got and sync with what they're able to
do physically, you know, Joe Burrow knew the routes that
uh that Jamar Chase liked to run. He knew how
(20:04):
he came out of breaks. He knew what what what
he was thinking when he came off to line of
scrimmage and he, you know, setting up a cornerback with
the stutter step or whatever. And uh, you know how
they're going to take advantage of that. All this intel
they collected, they've collected over the years together is it
pays big dividends. There's there's no doubt about it. And
(20:27):
Jamarrow was interesting. They played man. That doesn't surprise me
because John Harbaugh is old school that he likes to
play man. He broke into the NFL as a defensive
backfield coach, played dB at UC coached at U See No,
played at Miami O High, played safety at Miamia, Ohio, and.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
Uh those were Tomlin over you see, yeah exactly.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
He coached with Mike Tomlin who was on his staff
and coach DB's he he loves to play man, but
he's gonna have his safety over the top, you know.
Uh he called it man combo, you know, and uh
that that safety would roll out of the middle of
the football field. Over to where Jamar Chase was and
(21:09):
you know, you have corner taking him maybe in press
coverage up to a certain point, safety takes him over
the top. So a lot of attention was paid to
Jamaar and I saw snaps where linebacker would get involved
as well.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
You know, it'd be like.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
He you know, Jamar Chase is doubled a ton. I
don't know what the percentage is, but watching tape and
watching you know, practice and game tape, he is is
double team probably more than anybody in the NFL. If
there's another guy that's doubled more than he is, I'd
(21:42):
be surprised. There might be some that are doubled as much.
But man, you you don't feel comfortable in putting Jamar
Chase out there one on one, although with a Woozier
he did. He did have some one on one matchups
with him, some good matchups. I mean, she knows a
hell of a player, man, I mean, he's one of
the best corners in the NFL. Pro Football Focus has
them up there, rated up there, very very very highly,
(22:05):
and they had they had some good battles and they
know each other. They ran a lot of snaps against
each other when Cheeto's here with the Bengals and Jamar
Chase is running routes against them in practice, you know,
and you get to understand the guy, what the guy's
strengths are physically, routes that he likes to run, his
strengths and weaknesses physically. So it's it's interesting. And you know,
(22:32):
I'll tell you what. You get two high caliber guys
going after each other one on one. That's what it's
all about. Love to watch those kind of matchups. Just
isolate those kind of matchups and and see who gets
the best.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
Of who all day long, half of males going at it. Man,
we'll take a break. We'll be back with Joe Burrow's

do that, it's the return engagement. The Baltimore Ravens will
be in town. Yeah, this game with the Buffalo Bills,
we were talking about number nine. They put up the spotlight.
(23:28):
The dark Knight returns. He looks in the glass, he
grabs his suit and he gets out there and get
it done. Je Burrow talk to the media after the game. Yeah,
high an intel for you to have your.
Speaker 15 (23:45):
Yeah for greed.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
You know.
Speaker 15 (23:46):
Obviously had to knock some rust off there in the
first half, so I expect myself to play better. But
it was great to be back out there. I was,
you know, a lot of emotions running through it at
the end of the game. In so, uh, it's just
good to be back with the guys. You know. I
(24:07):
thought second half I started to to put it more
where I wanted and settled in a little bit. Uh,
certainly miss some throws early that I typically make, but
you know, after that, I felt felt pretty comfortable back there.
I thought that the line did great, We ran it well. Obviously,
defense played great, So I'm just gonna keep getting better.
Speaker 11 (24:27):
I know, like you guys love the tree tree might
essentially you guys a chance to kind of got.
Speaker 9 (24:34):
Can you kill the post?
Speaker 14 (24:37):
Being able to give your see your performance day?
Speaker 15 (24:39):
And I don't know anything. I don't know about that.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
I think.
Speaker 15 (24:49):
You know, anytime you can get a big win like this,
it's uh, it's exciting. And guys work really hard for this.
You know, we are where we're at with our record,
but I just work really hard to to go out
and put put on good performances on Sunday. So when
you're able to to do that, it feels good.
Speaker 9 (25:07):
You mentioned alcohol a lot better world early.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
When did you start to feel.
Speaker 15 (25:17):
The whole first half? I was, you know, my feet
were a little antsy back there, missing some throws. But
like I said, in the second half, I felt felt
a lot more comfortable, started putting them where I wanted
to and uh, you know, getting out and running and
makes it making a couple of plays with my feet,
(25:38):
getting out of the pocket a little bit.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (25:41):
Certainly don't want to make a living that way, but
I was able to to pick my sponts.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
I didn't walk a lot better night but you can't
have any moments where.
Speaker 8 (25:52):
You felt like you had a chance to reflect on
the journey back to this moment to.
Speaker 13 (25:57):
Get back and and how hard it's been to be
able to enjoy a.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Night like this.
Speaker 15 (26:01):
Yeah, it was certainly have those moments after the game.
Certainly hasn't been easy on me through through six years
from a lot of different angles. But you know, I've
worked really hard to put myself in position to be
back out there, and a lot of people around me
(26:22):
have done the same. And there's been a lot of
discussions and a lot of time in the training room
and I just a lot a lot that has gone
into this, and you know, I'm I'm proud to be
back good.
Speaker 7 (26:35):
Was there anything go to get me back into it
where you know when you first stat any feels get
Is there any grow that gets you go.
Speaker 15 (26:42):
And get your home that touchdown to to Yoshi, I
felt pretty good about it. Was, Uh, put it right
where I wanted it. Didn't exactly spend it the way
I wanted it, but that's all right. I put it,
put it in a good spot. And you know he
was ready for the look that one wasn't ful with
(27:02):
what is gonna.
Speaker 11 (27:04):
Writing what all downwards are gonna.
Speaker 15 (27:07):
Yeah, there's there's no there's no better feeling than that,
you know, putting in, putting in work for for a
long time and going out and in it paying off.
It's uh, there's just just there's there's just no feeling
like going out in front of the world with a
group of guys that work really hard to go try
(27:30):
to win games, and and going out and putting on
a good performance and winning that game. You know, obviously
we got a lot of games left, but we're gonna
enjoy this one and on this on this little mini
by weekend, and everybody's gonna go and have Thanksgiving with
their families and smile and eat and feel good about it.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
We're the issues in the prize.
Speaker 15 (27:55):
Well, trying to think they're you know, I think for
the most part, you just gotta give credit to them.
They mixed up their their looks down there. They would
they zero pressured us, They doubled Jamar, they single Jamar,
They did a lot of different things down there.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
You know.
Speaker 15 (28:13):
At the at the end of the day, we gotta
make plays and put put more in the end zone.
We can't kick six six field goals, but that's the
kind of game that it was. With our defense playing
the way that it was and the way we were
running the ball, it was take your points kind of game. Obviously.
The one that really, the one that really hurt was
when we got the turnover down there and came out
(28:35):
with no points. You know, typically something like that happens,
it's gonna be tough to win the game. But if
we were able to pull it out.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
All more snatch.
Speaker 15 (28:49):
Yeah, and then that was really the only drive that
they did that. And then the next couple of times
they they were still playing some man and like I said,
doubling Jamar sometimes, not doubling them sometimes. But we needed
somebody to make a play, and Tanner made that play
on in my opinion, won the best safety in the
(29:10):
league who just continuously makes play after play, And that
one really opened the floodgates. So credit to Tanner for
that one. Zacksonet Zach and the well the two touchdowns
to set the players you guys have been working on all.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
The year, you were.
Speaker 15 (29:28):
Yeah, I'm not I don't know about all year because
I haven't been out there, but yeah, we were hunting
that look on the on the Tanner touchdown, and really,
you know, Kyle played a great but I threw a
good ball and Tanner made a great play and then
the one to Yoshi. They were kind of bringing that pressure.
(29:52):
They brought it before in games in the past, and
so we were ready for it. But they played some
different coverages behind that pressure today. But great job by
Yoshi recognizing the coverage and he.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
Was ready for it.
Speaker 9 (30:03):
Yeah, I was playing the play.
Speaker 15 (30:05):
Yeah, it was good. I was a little more mobile
than I expected to be, to be honest, So that
felt good. We got a good system on the sideline
of you know, changing shoes out and doing what I
need to do to stay fresh. So we'll continue to
do that in a game.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
When you kind of playing the sets it out.
Speaker 6 (30:23):
And makes you pay more thought well.
Speaker 15 (30:27):
I think the first time I really left the pocket
was in the red zone. I threw it to Yoshi
was incomplete. But after that one, I felt pretty good,
and so I felt a little more comfortable doing some
more of that stuff so that.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
They didn't change anything.
Speaker 15 (30:42):
I mean I went out the first half thirty seven passes.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
I mean they didn't.
Speaker 5 (30:45):
He didn't wink an act to put them all.
Speaker 15 (30:47):
Yeah, it certainly like I said earlier, I had to
knock some rust off, miss some throws that I typically make,
but I didn't panic. I thought I saw it, uh
uh better in the second half. But going forward, I
gotta hit some of those because one.
Speaker 9 (31:05):
Deal of y'all obviously one way, but given the competition
where it was the Saturday in the National side, this
kind of give you a glimpse of what was the
gave Fable World Dens five games.
Speaker 15 (31:18):
We know the guys we have in the locker room,
we know what we have in front of us. It
is certainly not gonna be easy. But you know, the
way our defense has played the last several weeks I
think has been extremely positive. Obviously they were great, great,
great great today. Uh But that's been building, that's been
building all year. You see them putting in, putting in
the work. You see al talking about a lot of
(31:41):
different things that end up showing up tonight in in
the last couple of games as well. And so credit
to those guys for working so hard the way that
they do and putting on their performance.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
What was it like ding turkey on things?
Speaker 15 (31:54):
Get I didn't touch it. I didn't touch it. I
didn't I don't know who made it. I don't know
where they made it. I'm good enough. I had a
little pepper that I was good. But I was good
with the pepper, you would say, you and kind of
I guess it's short and of faith in the cannon's
going against the best safety believe.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
I mean, it wouldn't seem to be you take the
great catch for.
Speaker 15 (32:13):
Sure, obviously White. Yeah, from the moment Tanner got here,
all he did was make plays in practice. You know,
when we first got here and was that twenty two
I think when we signed him, I was like, who's
this guy making all these catches on scouts? You know,
I didn't know his name, And then he just continuously
(32:36):
kept doing it. And I've been his biggest fan since
he got here. He just you know, it's it's not
easy being in that spot when you're the third or
fourth tight end that you got. You might get a
couple of snaps in certain spots in the game, and
(32:57):
it's cold outside, you're on the sideline. You gotta stay warm,
and then you got come in and catch a back
pie on throw against Kyle Hanilton. That's not easy. And
he's just always been ready for his numbork he called,
so credit to him for that.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
All right, there it was Joe Burrow. We got a
lot to unpack on that. We'll take a break and
come back and talk about that presser. You're listening to
the Bengals Pep Brollley Show presented about Just Bear Chicken.
We'll be right back on the Bengals Radio Network. Welcome
back to the Bengals Pep Rowley presented by Just Bear
Chicken on the Bengals Radio Network. Wayne Box Miller Dave
Lap him broadcasting him from on the Rhine the Eatery
(33:33):
one hundred and East Court Street. And I hope everyone
had a great Thanksgiving. I did once the game was over.
It's like, like I said yesterday, a Champagne toast after
a good deal, U Lap. You listen to Joe Burrow?
I laughed sometime because he listened to him. He thinks
they lost thirty eight to ten.
Speaker 5 (33:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
When he's talking, he is so chilled and steady man.
Sometimes it's like is he a bot of cyboard? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Right, whatever, Yeah he is. He's unflappable. Yeah, you know,
he he is Joe cool. He always is cool, calm, collected, poised,
never gets flustered. He's uh, he's unique. He's very special
in that regard. And you know he'll talk about things
(34:21):
that are you know, bothering him, right, like one for
six in the red zone, I.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Was killing him. Yeah, but you know, still handling it
and very even keel.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
You can't tell by his voice that you know that
it it was bothersome to him. But how about that
they go one for six in the red zone seventeen
percent conversion percentage and still score thirty two points. I mean,
they could have scored fifty against the Baltimore Ravens. You
(34:51):
kidding me if you had a decent day in the
red zone, you know, say you go three for six
or four for six in the red zone, you know
you're looking at another uh you know, fourteen twenty one,
seventeen points. I mean, yeah, that's that's unbelievable against that
defensive football team in Baltimore, in front of that home
(35:12):
crowd that is so boisterous noisy. Crowd noise is a
factor when you're traveling, you're on the road against Baltimore.
It affects execution. It's that crowd noise. And many were
they were a machine, the Bengals. They were a machine
between the twenties, but they did have some red zone difficulty.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Yeah, you know what I was thinking about it is
this was a big game for the Ravens because now
they've dropped out, Pittsburgh drops back in the slot. Yeah,
Pittsburgh has Buffalo this Sunday, who we play the following week. Right,
but look at this touchdown on the first drive after
that fumble punt fumble, punt, fumble punt yep. I mean
they were stymied, they were confused. They were defended by
(35:54):
this defense, the Cincinnate Bengals defense the last three Jamar
talked about at the last two or three weeks, Well,
the last three weeks, twenty points against the Steelers, nineteen
against the Patriots, twelve last night. They're giving up seventeen
points a game over the last three games. You put
Joe Burrow on the other side and you can be
seventeen points. They're good on defense, You're probably gonna win
(36:16):
those games.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Yeah, you know the thing the defense. Talking about the defense,
Joe Burrow obviously very praiseworthy of how the defense played.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
The defense.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
Even though the offense struggled in the red zone, the
defense stepped up and supported him. They held the Ravens
to thirty percent on third down three out of ten.
They have Lamar Jackson and quarterback to go thirty percent.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
And the King get running back.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
And the King at running back and got weapons you know,
to throw the football to. I mean, that's a hell
of a defensive performance right there on third down. Al
Golden has to be, you know, really happy about that.
There's there's no doubt about it. And then the time
of pozent this is staggering. Bengals had the ball seventeen
minutes and thirty two seconds more than the Ravens. The
(37:07):
Bengals basically took a quarter away from the Ravens. Quarters
are fifteen minutes four to fifteen minute quarters. They took
the one away and said, you know, yep, this one's ours.
We have four quarters, you only have three to work with.
I mean that that's amazing. The Bengals over thirty eight
minutes time of possession to twenty one man. That's a
(37:28):
that's a big number. I haven't seen that type of
disparity in time of possession for a while. And this
is a This again, is a is a team that
has division championship aspirations. You know, and you're playing at
their place in front of their home crowd, and to
handle them like they did on third down and in
(37:50):
the red zone pretty onspire.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Yeah, we need to sweep them like they swept us
yes year. Yes, we'll take a break, come back and
talk about the defense. It's Bengals probably so presented about
just bare ticket live at OTR on the Ride on
the Bengals Radio Network. Welcome back to the Bengos N
Browley Show presented by Just Fair Chicken Live on the
Bengals Radio Network. Wayne Box, Really glad to have you
(38:12):
a board, and uh, just a beautiful post game of
big win yesterday. I tell you what, man, I was
so impressed with this defense and they were much more live.
But I want to dive right into that lab. We
talked little bit about Joseph Osai, Miles Murphy, Jayalen Davis,
but I mean everybody, Jordan Battle, what a play on
Isaiah Likely not giving up on the play. He admitted
(38:35):
he got a little behind it, but he came back,
created a turnover a DJ turner. I tell you what,
he's having a year, man, He's just continuing to be played.
And Dax Hill two passes big pass defended last. It's
like everybody's contributing, and that's really what you want. All
eleven on board, no doubt box.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
I mean, al Golan has to be excited about this
defensive performance because you hold an offense like this of
fourteen points, like we talked about at their place, that's
something to be very proud of. And the thing is
every unit, individual players in each unit and every unit
in its entirety in terms of defensive line, linebackers, defensive backs,
(39:15):
everybody made plays. All three components of the defense, all
three position groups. I mean, they really get after it.
We talked about Osai and Murphy taking advantage of their
opportunity with Trey Henderson out.
Speaker 5 (39:31):
You know, we got we're right now. Our leader is
not part of it today.
Speaker 12 (39:37):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
We got to get something done. Let's go make plays.
And they did. They stepped up and they made plays.
The interior defensive line. I thought the defensive tackles played
their tails off. I thought McKinley Jackson played a solid game.
I thought Jenkins was very solid as well. They had
a rotation of defensive lineman, you know, be j Hill
(40:00):
obviously always. It gives you a big effort. I mean, yeah,
co captain. You know he's gonna he's gonna do everything
he possibly can. I thought the big thing in this
football game was the run game, and the Bengals defensive
line and linebackers in the front seven shut down the
Ravens run game, or didn't shut it down. You can't
(40:21):
say that they shut it down necessarily. The Ravens average
five point six yards to carry, but Henry only thirty
three yards. He only ran the ball five Oh, that's
first half five times in the first half ten total,
three or ten total.
Speaker 5 (40:37):
And that's on today.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
As I was driving in, I'm listening to a serious
NFL radio and they're like, what's wrong with the Baltimore Ravens.
What's wrong with John Harbaugh? How can Derrick Henry only
carry the ball ten times?
Speaker 1 (40:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (40:50):
In a game, I don't care who the defense is.
I don't care if it's the uh, the Chicago Bears.
I don't care if it's the Pittsburgh Steelers, you know,
the Dot Bears. The Great Bears defense is the steel Curtain.
To you, you got to run him more than ten times,
and I'll guarantee you that's the last time. If they
only run Derrick Henley ten times in a game. They're
they're catching a lot of heat for that. But the
(41:13):
Bengals defense, really, I mean they every body contributed, every
single position group. You know, you can go back through
the play by play sheet and highlight big plays and
it's not just one guy or two guys doing it.
Speaker 5 (41:28):
It's a bunch of guys just.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
Sprinkled throughout the Black Committee.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
Yeah, it takes eleven players to play good defensive football,
you know, eleven guys controlling their gap, playing gap control
defense and taking care of business and getting off blocks
and making plays in the running game, and then rushing
the quarterback and the storart and his pocket and pressuring him,
(41:51):
good coverage in the back end, being right with it
where you're supposed to be, when you're supposed to be there.
Your eyes are perfect, you're making your keys, you can
your reads perfectly. I mean it's when when a defense
is playing as well as the Bengals defense played yesterday,
it's it's a thing of beauty. I mean it's it's
it's really it's so it's choreographed. I mean, every everything is,
(42:13):
everybody's in step right, everybody's stepping with the same foot
in the same direction.
Speaker 1 (42:18):
I mean looks like the June tailor dancers. Man when
it's going right, question, I love that. All right? We
got our number two and three coming up. Son Clifford
is going to join us in our number three. We'll
get Zach Taylor's comments in the next hour. It is
the Bengals broadcasting live. It's the Bengals pep Rally. Is
so broadcasting live for thinking about Just Bear Chicken on
the Bengals Radio Network. We'll be back with our number
(42:41):
two right after the break.

proud to be the official HR software provider of the

to come to work with Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (43:31):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
Don't call pay court. You got to go through the Bengals.
You can't contact pay courts to work with Joe Burrow.
But another big win. Joe Burrow three for three this
season and looking for more. And we caught up with
Zach Taylor after the game. Dave, you do such a
great job with that. But he also talked to the
general media about this game and just where this team is.
Speaker 10 (43:55):
Great. Yeah, nothing, Now, it was good to get a
road divisional win and you know, fun for our guys
on prime time you get to see him having fun
after the game.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
That was just good. You know, they've been putting in work.
Speaker 10 (44:12):
All season long for for moments like this and to
get one and then get to you know, take a
deep breath and enjoy it and relax and have fun
and and you know that that's important. And now we'll,
you know, take a couple of days here to get
our legs back underneath us and get ready to go
for Buffalo.
Speaker 14 (44:28):
What what are you burned best yesterday.
Speaker 4 (44:32):
I just thought he played football. You know.
Speaker 10 (44:34):
That was just good to see and you could feel
him get into a rhythm there especially, you know, some
moments moments the first half and the second half, he
just felt like he was really really on it, and
just some moments where we saw him, you know, kind
of break contain. It was good protection and guys getting
watched inside and he kind of extends to the right.
Made some big plays, one to Jamar, you know, they
got us the first down. That was kind of kind
(44:54):
of a moment for me that I feel like I've
seen from them so many times. And the Tanner touchdown,
you know when he bought time to the right and
kind of put it in the only spot he could
possibly give it to him, you know, back shoulder.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
Tanner made a.
Speaker 10 (45:06):
Great catch, but really a throw it is about the
only spot you could put it. So I just think,
you know, he found a really good rhythm and and
it was good to check that box and play the
game and and now and get back to business forty
point last year too, is there anything you can parallel
about staying in the process like you did last year?
Speaker 4 (45:24):
And there's always hope.
Speaker 10 (45:26):
That, Yeah, I can you use those things from last
year the kind of a lesser any year. I mean,
we have been in this exact same situation, not something
we really plan to play into. We just truly have
to take up one game at a time. But I
think our guys understand like they I've never felt like
I have to have to pick them up, like guys
are straggling and not giving their best. I haven't felt
(45:46):
that for one second. And and I think the proof
is in the pudding right there. You know, when you
when you travel in a short week and get the
result that that the guys put on the field, I
think that shows what these guys are made of.
Speaker 4 (45:59):
And we have.
Speaker 10 (46:00):
High expectations moving forward, and you just have to take
a one game at a time.
Speaker 15 (46:04):
Coach, I just wanted to saw the tape and how
Baltimore played you, and I just wanted to I thought
that was maybe one of.
Speaker 4 (46:12):
The best teams or offensive line has played along the
road in the division.
Speaker 10 (46:15):
I mean it just seemed like, yeah, I think they've
they've gained great chemistry, you know, particularly over the last
several several games, they've protected well, you know, the one
sack we had was really as much as anything. It
was a corner blitz that was you know, formationally for me,
(46:39):
part of the problem hard to see. So you know,
really they protected all games, didn't go up a sack
in my mind, versus a team that's going to bring
a lot of different looks and so there was a
lot of problem solving that had to take place there
on some of those known passing situations that I thought
our coaches did a great job with the plan, the
players understood the plan, they executed it, we got some
big plays out of it. But to your point, I
(47:00):
think the line has done some really good things for us.
Some of those runs. You know that we're running the
ball at the end of the game. Everyone in the
world knows we're running. So it's it's pretty hairy in there,
tough looks, and they still found ways to create some
movement and give us opportunities. And really proud of the
way that those guys have stepped up for us.
Speaker 4 (47:19):
I mean that might be one of the best formative
looking guys have ever had.
Speaker 10 (47:23):
I mean I liked the one we had there in
twenty one, you know, finish with the Sama run. Yeah,
that was a good one too. So yeah, I'm not
gonna put it up there as the top one. But
you know, those are tough situations where you gotta find
yardage and and you know, they did a good job
of that.
Speaker 3 (47:38):
They seemed like it was I mean, I know you
said the zero blitzed, I guess on the most four three.
Speaker 4 (47:45):
Times on going. Yeah, Joe said they didn't zero blitz
after that, But it seem like, well, that's more low
red zone.
Speaker 10 (47:51):
You know, we weren't really in the low red zone
after that, So that's a little bit unique form, not
unique for them, but that's in the in the low
red that's kind of what you have to expect them,
and it can be hairy, and we've obviously had issues
in the past right there in that same spot, same
in zone, so we've always got to look to find
ways to do a better job there. But you know,
it's I thought the touchdown of Yoshi, you know, is
(48:13):
a pressure look that we talked about a lot, and
guys stepped up there and executed perfectly. Smudge, you did
a great job skinning across. Joe sat there with excellent
ployees and saw the coverage and made the throw to Yoshi.
Speaker 4 (48:25):
A lot of big plays by the defense obviously.
Speaker 8 (48:27):
Well, you go back and watch the film the plays
were in battle May knocked the ball. Where does that
kind of stack up with all those plays in that game.
Speaker 4 (48:35):
Based on Yeah, it would have been fourteen three if
they got.
Speaker 8 (48:38):
Out there and then justin and it's huge, that's huge,
and it's just.
Speaker 10 (48:44):
You know, that's that's tremendous effort by by Jordan on
that play and just to not give up. And well,
I think there was three guys almost involved there. I
know GD was one of them if I remember correctly,
of all trying to get in there and and slow
him down and give an opportunity to knocked the ball out.
And those plays we show every Friday, you know, we
show our defense finishing those plays, usually with possession of
(49:05):
the ball like like Gino had last week through the
end zone and scoring and and showing how devastating that
can be if that happens to you. So that's not
happened to you, and our guys kind of buying into
that and making sure they can find a different way
to experience that moment where we knocked the ball out
instead of scoring. And so I uh, that was a
huge play, huge momentum change. You're right, the game could
(49:26):
maybe go in a different direction if they had that
momentum at home, and so that was that's a big
play for us.
Speaker 8 (49:33):
Let me say, Kimber, which was the Thursday night game
in the nineteen seventeen game, you guys had the down
at the goal line, you got a ripped up the
red zone plan after that that was earlier, I think
it was a week five, But anything off of the
red zone, well, was this in this game that you
think could lead to taking a different look And maybe we.
Speaker 10 (49:52):
Guys know they're always tough, they're they're always present, difficult
down there, and we scoured the tape and and come
up with what we are plan we really like and
it's just difficult, you know. And so it didn't come
our way on that one. And we'll keep working to
be good in the We've been really good in the
low reds on this year, really good, and so we're
not going to change anything from what we're doing. But obviously,
(50:15):
you know I was talk game the game. Different defenses
present different challenges, and they got us on that series
and and uh, you know, two weeks from now we'll
play them again and give another opportunity with the.
Speaker 11 (50:25):
Night like the defense had yesterday, and then you know,
closing the game out like you did.
Speaker 12 (50:30):
You know in the games that you lost, talk about
just finding a way to close the game out, just
get a win.
Speaker 8 (50:36):
How much can that momentum build off of a night
like that as you guys try to stack these wins
onto the rest.
Speaker 4 (50:42):
Of the year. It can. Obviously, we're gonna have to
put the work in.
Speaker 10 (50:45):
We haven't played Buffalo, it feels like in a while,
so there's a lot of work that guys are gonna
have to buy into next week. But I thought finishing
the game on something that we've just been preaching since
Al walked in the door here, you know, forcing these
fumbles and so for JD and d Jay to finish
the game the way they did on defense this series,
before their final three plays or whatever it was, I
(51:06):
thought was just a big moment for us. It's something
we've been preaching, We've been working like crazy. We've said
it's gonna come. You just never know when that damn's
going to break. And so to finish the turnover day
like that with the guy punching the ball out, ripping
the ball out, DJ picking it up, I thought that
was a big moment for us that we got to
capitalize on. The guys have now seen it, Okay, this
this stuff's paying off for us, and it's fun when
(51:28):
it happens, and it can change the games, and they've
been buying in. But now to see the payoff I
think gives a lot of confidence to them and our
team moving forward.
Speaker 14 (51:37):
Over the last few weeks, especially on third downs from
the defense, I can make them a few pressure looks,
simulated disguises, all that kind of stuff. How you found
Al on a spot where as the young guys get
more experience, he's able to doubt.
Speaker 10 (51:50):
Some more stuff, I think so, I think that's the
best way to put it. I thought all did a
great job mixing it up with bringing it and bluffing
it and trying to keep them off guard as best
as possible. But you're right now that these these this
group of guys has now played more and more snaps together,
you're able to start to blend some of that stuff
in and put more on their plate.
Speaker 4 (52:08):
And they've handled it really well.
Speaker 14 (52:09):
How did you kind of know they were? They were
ready for that, and clearly it worked out.
Speaker 10 (52:13):
We that's been integrated these last couple of weeks and
and so you know you got to see more about
last night.
Speaker 14 (52:18):
And then just as a play caller, what kind of
challenges does it create when you know you'll have like
Chris Nankin drop a back and you know they're like
miles and something against a tight end.
Speaker 6 (52:26):
What kind of challenges?
Speaker 10 (52:27):
Yeah, I mean, that's that's that's a numbers challenge, you know,
so they're putting that many guys on the ball. It's
you can't always get the matchups you want in protection.
Oftentimes you have to just account for the numbers. And
so then when they bluff it, you're gonna get big
guys on the little guys. And that's just there's no
other way to cut it. If you if you're going
to do it a different play, then you're gonna have
free runners coming in A and B gaps and you
don't want that either. So again, I thought it was
(52:49):
a good play in place. Our guys believed in it,
they executed it, They did it the right way. They
weren't hitting the same gap, you know, they're hitting different
gaps and making sure we were stressing them, and you'll
get free runners and that was fun to watch.
Speaker 12 (53:01):
You get to indulge in any of the turkey.
Speaker 4 (53:03):
After the game, I had one piece of it.
Speaker 10 (53:04):
It was a little spicy, not not not totally my style,
but uh, you know, one of the players gave it
to me in the locker match of the game, and
I thought, you know, what the heck, it's thanksgiving you
a chance to eat Thanksgiving turkey. In a moment like that,
you know something that you've really you kind of reflect
back on. You know, you've watched these games your entire
life on Thanksgiving, and I've been fortunate. I've played in
(53:26):
a ton of Thursday and Friday games dating back to
Nebraska in A and M and now here, and you know.
Speaker 4 (53:32):
So I.
Speaker 10 (53:34):
My childhood really goes back to before I was in
college watching all these games, and so I had to
experience that just even if I didn't love it, I
called it chicken act. So I said, somebody give me
a pieces. You know, That's where my mind was at
that moment. But it was fun, fun experience for all
our guys. Today, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (53:53):
I haven't talked to him to say.
Speaker 6 (53:56):
What happened with Jermaine on Friday popab with the ankle?
Speaker 1 (53:59):
Did it get hurt of practice?
Speaker 4 (54:00):
Yeah, okay, what's his status moving forward?
Speaker 10 (54:03):
We'll see, you know, probably probably week to week at
this point.
Speaker 8 (54:06):
Other than patients, what was sacrificed with the five and
a half hour playing the left?
Speaker 11 (54:12):
What?
Speaker 8 (54:12):
What what would you guys have done had you got
to Baltimore time that you weren't able to do?
Speaker 4 (54:16):
Nothing? Nothing?
Speaker 10 (54:18):
No, we we usually on a day like that, it's
been so much. You know, we keep these guys on
Tuesday night because it's a short week. That's just been
the process we followed, and so to come back and
they do a ton on Wednesday as well, and so
usually I like them to get to the hotel on
Wednesday night and just have time to yourself to decompress,
and then we come back Thursday morning again and meet.
So it didn't affect anything from a preparation standpoint. I
(54:41):
thought what it did add was great team bonding and camaraderie.
Like it's you know, it is what it is. It's
it's you've got issues and you face a diversity, and it
was fun to watch people deal with that adversity. I
thought jeff Ricktern did an unbelievable job. I thought that
the Delta people were phenomenal. You know, everyone's just trying
to problem solve and keep the peace. And our players
(55:03):
responded unbelievably, you know, other than Ted being a little
hungry at times, which which.
Speaker 4 (55:08):
He found some food.
Speaker 10 (55:09):
So it was good. You know, we had plenty of
food and that took care of him. But I just
I'd look back, and you know, your stress for the
players because they got to play the next day. But man,
they were they were laughing, they were bonding. It was
kind of one of those moments you can't really uh
create on your own. It was just a natural happening.
And I thought, well, this could be really good, and
so maybe we'll just try to arrive late for for
(55:31):
all road night games from now on. But you know,
I just I thought that the problem solving was really good.
Speaker 4 (55:38):
People.
Speaker 10 (55:39):
People kept their wits about them and did everything they
could make the players comfortable. And the players responded great.
And you know, we got there at one in the
morning to the hotel and they had this unbelievable Thanksgiving
dinner that Brick had set up, you know, with the
hotel people, and I thought everybody would just grabbed their
food and go. That ballroom was packed, one of them
(55:59):
were packed. I mean wasn't an open seat at any table.
So guys sat down there and ate their food and
we'll let him sleep in. And they responded with a
big win.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
All right, does Zach Taylor a lot to unpack him?
We'll do that. On the other side. This is the
Bengals pep Rowley Show broadcasting live on the ride one
under these Core three, presented by Just Bear Chicken on
the Bengals Radio Network. Actually, the Bengals pep Rowley Show
broadcasting live. I'm on the ride, right he went under
these core tree presented by Just Bear Chicken. Shout out
(56:30):
to a bengalch Here leaders, Mayor Scuotin and amidd in
the building. Yeah, hanging out with us gows in the house. Yes,
all right, no photographs unless supervised by Dave Lapham.
Speaker 5 (56:41):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (56:42):
All right, lap A lot to talk about with Zach's presser.
And let's go to the first thing. You guys had
some challenges getting out of Cincinnati on Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (56:50):
Yeah, yeah, it was.
Speaker 1 (56:53):
It was a long trip.
Speaker 3 (56:55):
We had about a about a six hour delay. We
ended up getting to the hotel like four or five am.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
Wow. Yeah, And to say to hear them say, the
guys are still up bonding, hanging out, doing the whole nine.
But those moments can really be a catalyst for a team,
especially with the challenges. This team had to have Joe
Burrow back right, and we're all stuck on the plane.
We might as well make the best of it. You
do get closer in those kind of scenarios, you do.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
I think I think everybody realized, you know what, we're
a victim of circumstance here. It's beyond our control. Nothing
we can do about it, So let's try to make
the best of it, you know. And and that's everybody
kind of approached it that way and looked at it as.
Speaker 5 (57:36):
A team bonding. You know.
Speaker 3 (57:38):
It's it's a they spend a lot of time together.
It's almost like the football teams in an extended family
and you know, Thanksgiving family, it's all tied in together. Yeah,
you know, and there are there are bonds that are
made that are never broken the rest of your life.
You make friendships and bonds when you're playing, you know,
(58:00):
like a professional sport like these guys are with the
Cincinnati Bengals. That it's it's a rare, rare opportunity to
really really get super close to guys.
Speaker 1 (58:10):
No question about it. You know one area we didn't
talk about that I wanted to recognize special teams. First
of all, I haven't mcperson money six or six. But man,
I tell you what I Tyson Anderson needs some votes
for the Pro Bowl.
Speaker 4 (58:23):
Man.
Speaker 1 (58:23):
This guy, every time you look down, he gets after it.
He dj Ivy and jewels man. And you want this
from guys on special teams. Take pride in being on
special teams. Like make this like I'm gonna stick my
flag in the ground and say, when you play the Bengals,
you better be worried about our special teams as much
as worried about anything else.
Speaker 3 (58:44):
Absolutely, I mean there are there are three uh factors,
three variables, three teams contributing to the team effort offense, defense,
special teams. Darren Simmons the Bengals special teams coaches assistant
head coach. It's been around for a long time. Oh,
he's the most tenured special teams coach in the National
(59:05):
Football League with one football team. He knows what he's doing.
I mean, Darren Simmons knows special teams. He knows special
teams players, he knows how to evaluate them. He knows
how to motivate him, and he loves his special teams guys, man,
And it can decide games. I mean, you know when
(59:27):
you're talking field position, potential turnovers, put teams on long fields,
get some short fields with great returns for your football team.
It's a big, big factor in the football game. And
Darren loves to associate himself with guys to take great
pride and being a member of special teams. Some players
around the National Football League that's been their main contribution
(59:50):
to their entire career. They never were a great they
never were a star player as such. They never even
were a starter on offensive defense. But man, when it
came of special teams, the football team had to keep
him Special teams coach final cutdowns raised, gotta have that guy,
(01:00:11):
gotta have him him. Other than that, good, do what
you need to do. But I gotta have these three
guys right here. These guys are my workhorses.
Speaker 11 (01:00:18):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:00:19):
Yeah, I think Sedric made the Pro Bowl on special
He was that guy. I mean sure did you could
count on him? Uh every week?
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Yeah, in the league smartly, very intelligently for the Pro Bowl.
When when players, players and coaches vote for the Pro Bowl,
participants they have for Special Teams category Special Teams Player.
You can vote for two. The two guys to collect
the most votes make the Pro Bowl. Cedric Peerman made
(01:00:47):
it more than once. I mean he's a great example
of blocks. There's no question, I mean there have been.
It's it's crazy. I mean, these guys tough. Tony Davis
out of Nebraska, Tony Davis was a tough running back.
He he was hard nose man. I mean he he
was a wedgebuster. And he came down one game and
(01:01:07):
hit into that wedge and his face masters collapsed and
it smashed into his face or broke his his nose
was clastered all over his face and he just comes.
Speaker 5 (01:01:17):
Run off the field like you know, nothing was wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:01:20):
I'm my god, Tony the trainer man, these guys are
unbelievably crazy.
Speaker 5 (01:01:26):
Man. They get after it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
And you know the reality is, if you're smart when
you come into this game, and Darren Simmons talks about
this all the time, I don't care if you're you know,
third round pick, fourth round, maybe the second round pick,
you're more than likely going to be playing special teams.
And the way to win, Preston coaches is number one
embraced that, no doubt, no diva thing. What do you
(01:01:49):
mean you know I never played special teams in college. Well,
it's not college anymore. You're in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:01:53):
Some guys look at it as a slap, but the motion,
you know, it's like that's beneath me. Yeah, I'm not
going to play special teams. We had a guy when
I was a rookie, Bob Maddocks out of Frostburg State.
I think it's in Maryland.
Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
I'm not even.
Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
Sure where it is, but mad Dog, Bob mad Dog
Maddocks was a hell of an athlete. He played college
basketball at Crossburg State as well as football, and I
think he get drafted.
Speaker 5 (01:02:18):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
He didn't get drafted in the NBA, but he did
get drafted in the ABA, and he got drafted in
the NFL and came played with the Bengals and it
was just special teams. I mean, they basically drafted him
because of his sized feed ratio, and they said, you know,
this guy is going to play on every one of
our special teams and he's going to be the guy
that we're going to build some scheme around. And mad
(01:02:39):
Dog was. He was a man I'm telling you he
challenged guys every single week, opponents and teammates to play
those special teams the way he did.
Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
Yeah, and I think that, you know, people don't realize
that some dude, people that follow football understand to tell
him to be sent on special teams. Yeah, big hit
on that kickoff or big return like Charlie Jones when
he returned at the touchdown. That energizes the offense and
the defense because they're like, oh, you just set the
(01:03:10):
bar for this game and what should happen today, And
all of a sudden it elevates.
Speaker 3 (01:03:15):
When we played in big games, the crowd goes nuts.
They're on their feet for the opening kickoff. I mean,
that's special teams.
Speaker 5 (01:03:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:03:24):
The first play of every game is a special teams play,
right first, playing the second half of every game, special
teams play and and and at that point, the crowd
is totally into it because they know exactly what's what's
going to materialize and how it's going to materialize, you know,
and uh, the anticipation, the excitement the special teams can
can get contagious, no.
Speaker 1 (01:03:45):
Question about it. We'll take a break, we'll come back
and talk about the playoff scenarios because a guy loved
it pute and wish I got a chance to know him.
Yoga Bear. Yoga Bear says, it looks like days Avoo
all over again with this team trying to get in
the playoffs. It's the Bengals Pet Rowley Show broadcasting live
but on the Ryan presented about Just Bear chicking on
the Bengals Radio Network. Welcome back to the Bengals Pet
(01:04:10):
Rowley Show, presented about Just Bear checking on the Bengals
Radio Network, broadcasting live and on the Ryde one under
the East Court Street. And once again I always tell
you if you're out and about, make sure you stop
up here. You got your choice of restaurants catching eighteen
eighty three, you got Queen City Berger, you got sushi
private selection over here. You got so many different choices
(01:04:31):
to grab something to eat, fully good, drub, fully stocked bar,
nicest staff in the world. Shout out to everybody working
making it happen. And if you've not tried to wing
smoke wings here, doing yourself a disservice because you need
to check it out. Lap. One of the things I
was talking about days Aboo all over again, which is
the Jogi Beart quote, you're looking at the playoff scenario
(01:04:53):
and it's just like last year. You've talked about this
over the years that I've worked with you. It rings
so true. You just don't want to put your feet
in somebody else's hands, and you dig such a deep
hole sometime. But that being said, all you want to
do is get in. Yep, And the Bengals are on
the outside looking in. But Buffalo plays Pittsburgh this week,
(01:05:17):
Buffalo comes, we go to Buffalo the following week. Right, Buffalo,
Pittsburgh and Baltimore have to play twice. Yet still there's
a lot of dominoes that could bought a lot of
different ways if you just win your games.
Speaker 5 (01:05:31):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
You know, when you look at Pittsburgh, they're they play
Buffalo Pittsburgh six and five. If they don't beat Buffalo
six and six, Baltimore six and six with the Bengals
beating them, so the two teams would be tied for first.
Narcy North through to have a six and six record.
The Bengals are four and eight. That's only two games,
two games with you know, with six game five game
(01:05:53):
five or six games left, and man, it it's stranger
things have happened. I mean, the Bengals, many times in
their organization's history, have gone on six game winning streaks.
I mean it's not it's not like, oh my gosh,
that's impossible. Nobody wins six in row in the National
football They go, oh yeah, they do, and it happens.
It happens regularly. I mean, teams get hot, and you know,
(01:06:16):
the Bengals, they may have really started off right here
with this big win over the Baltimore Ravens. They got
them again in two weeks after they play Buffalo, they
play Baltimore again.
Speaker 5 (01:06:28):
So if.
Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
Buffalo loses, Bengals knock them off, then they can knock
Buffeto Baltimore off again after just beating them two weeks earlier.
You're on a three game winning streak and doing damage
to people that are ahead of you, you know, and
you're getting closer all the time, as the old saying goes.
Speaker 1 (01:06:46):
And the beautiful thing is what you just mentioned. Those
are called divisional wins, yep. And that's the big win.
Five and one.
Speaker 3 (01:06:54):
If they go five and one in the division, you know,
that's that's the tiebreaker, man, that's the primary tiebreaker.
Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
So the Dolphins are ahead, we got the Dolphins on
the schedule. Yep, you not take care of them. The
Ravens again. The Chiefs lost a tough one yesterday. Pat
Mahomes four touchdown passes, but he could have had five.
I've never seen so many drop passes. Lamar was overthrowing guys.
Pat Mahomes unfortunately, was hitting guys right in the hands.
He was betrayed. You know, the Texans are still up
(01:07:25):
and down. The Bills have not been playing well of
late the last few weeks, so again the opportunity for
Pittsburgh to get in and beat them. But you wouldn't
mind Buffalo upsetting Pittsburgh because they've now moved into that
four spot for the division lead in the AFC Nord.
But she got the coach Broncos and the Patriots at
the top. There's still a lot of football. Just five
(01:07:48):
games left for the Bengals, five for most. Couple of
people have five weeks and it could very well come
down to the last game of the season. Again. I
know everyone was mad at Kansas last year, but there's
no way in hell Kansas City is going to help
the team that they struggle with the most in the
AFC get in the playoffs only to potentially have to
(01:08:08):
play them again. Right, that's not going to happen.
Speaker 3 (01:08:11):
No, you you have to take care of your own business.
As the old saying goes, you rely on somebody else,
you're going to be bitterly disappointed. There's no doubt. You
just have to do what you need to do, UH,
to get yourself position for a playoff opportunity. And don't
worry about anybody else. Don't don't worry about their situation,
dodn't don't even don't even mess with it, don't let
(01:08:33):
let it cloud your mind.
Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
How do you how do you compartmentalize though? So now
it's part of you that's looking looking ahead. But the
reality is you got five to one game season, one
week at a time. All you have now is Buffalo.
How do you stay there as a player without kind
of peeking down the road?
Speaker 4 (01:08:49):
You know?
Speaker 5 (01:08:50):
That's that's interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:08:51):
In the in the postgame locker room after this football game,
after the big win, UH, Orlando Brown said it, Miles
Murphy said it, the guys said it. We are in
the midst of six one week seasons. We just had
one of our one week seasons. We have one coming up.
The focus is just our game against this opponent. We
(01:09:12):
don't care about the rest of the league. We don't
care about the other thirty teams. We are focused one
week at a time, one week's season, let's get it done.
And I think that's wise. I think that's the way
to approach it. If you start, if you start thinking
about too many things, it takes away from your focus
on what you have to do to win that football game.
Speaker 1 (01:09:33):
No question about it. I think the other thing that
I was taking I was impressed with yesterday in the
locker room as you were talking to guys was their
understanding of their roles and the roles of the other
guys around them. So complimentary of both sides of the ball,
whether it's the offense talking about the defense, the defense
talking about the offense. To me, I've always thought that
(01:09:54):
that's a measure of where guys are in terms of
relationships each other. And I said it on the show
last week. I remember last Friday being down at the
stadium and after practice, you know, Friday is the lighter practice.
I look in the cafeteria. There's a tight end coach,
there's the offensive lineman, there's a defensive back, there's a linebacker.
(01:10:14):
These guys are all sitting at the table together talking
and I said to myself, I'd love to take this
picture and share it on social media. Obviously I couldn't,
but I would love to to say to people because
everybody thought, all this team's coming undone, they're coming in
glue like exhibit A. This team is this team's tight man,
no question.
Speaker 3 (01:10:31):
And interesting you mentioned that box. How guys you know
are going to cross pollinate offensive defensive guys different positions.
They were Paul Brown when I was with the Bengals
as a rookie, and you know, all through the years
that Paul Brown was head coach, he put together when
we went to training camp, who your roommate was. And
(01:10:53):
your roommate was not a teammate, not a teammate offensive
or defensive teammate. It was on the other side of
the football. It was like maybe a guy you might
be going against uh in one on one drills, a
defensive lineman that you know there might have been some
ill feelings, some ill will because of what happened in
one on one drills or a pass rush whatever. He
(01:11:15):
was the master of creating that bond ned chemistry. He
had you're gonna You're gonna room with that guy. You're
gonna go into the into uh that bedroom every single
night when lights go out. You're gonna sleep in the
same bedroom as this guy. You're gonna have conversations about family,
about football, about all kinds of things. We are gonna
be close. We are gonna be a bonded football team.
(01:11:37):
We are gonna be an extension of family. This football
team is gonna be family number two for you guys.
And man, it worked. He did it in Cleveland with
Otto Graham and all those great Cleveland Browns teams. He
did it in Cincinnati, Paul Brown Man. He was revolutionary.
He was a man ahead of his time.
Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
No question about it. We'll get ahead of our time.
Sean Clifford joined us in an hour number three. We'll
take a break right now. You're listening to the Bengals
p Probley. So about Just Bear Chicken live and on
the Ryane right here on the Bengals Radio Network. Welcome
back to the Bengals pe Proalley Show, broadcasting live from
on the Rye, presented by Just Bear Chicken on the
(01:12:14):
Bengals Radio Network. Mike's Full of Turkey over here. I
gotta wake Mike up. There you go. Mike's got turkey
and wings and he yeah, yeah. Hey. You know, Dan
Horde is with UC football. They've got their final game
of the season against TCU tomorrow and uh it'll be
over and done with. But laugh. I'll tell you what.
(01:12:35):
Uh this week, this Sunday, of our players, I'd be
trying to get a lot of guys together to watch
this game against Pittsburgh and Buffalo. Hey, let's watch as
a team and figure.
Speaker 3 (01:12:44):
This out that Uh, that's another way to bond, you know.
I mean, it's it's it's an important game. Uh, it
could determine your future for the rest of the uh
the season.
Speaker 5 (01:12:57):
So we used to do that.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
We'd all meet over at somebody's house and you know,
have a little adult beverage, have a little food, break
some bread together, watch watch the game. Guys would study matchups,
individual matchups, and we'd watch, you know, if if Pittsburgh
had a big crucial game and they're playing the Dallas
Cowboys or something, we'd watch matchups and we'd watch how
(01:13:20):
they game planned and just try to get a little
advance knowledge on that upcoming opponent in that crucial football
game you're going to be playing, you.
Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
Know, reminds me of ray Lewis. And one of the
things I had so much ADMI racer for ray Lewis
because I actually got to know him when Eric Davis
played for the Orioles. Yeah, we all spent time together.
It was four of us, and I saw a guy
that was on his way to greatness. And I knew
that this guy was going to be something special. But
one of the things that ray Lewis did was gather
(01:13:50):
up guys all the time and say come over to
my house to watch film and Jamal Lewis are running
back Cleveland Browns. When he got traded to Baltimore, he said,
as I got there, the first guy that a training
complex was ray Lewis, and he says, hey, man, you
know all your stuff done? Yeah, well, we're going to
my house and watch the film. He said. I couldn't
(01:14:11):
believe it. You over these guys are over here, man,
locked down, right, that's what made them so great.
Speaker 3 (01:14:16):
Yeah, it's like, what are you gonna do on your own?
You know, there's there's a lot of time when you're
not down there at the facility, uh, working out, practicing,
watching tape, used to do the same thing. I'd bring home,
you know, sixteen millimeter film and watching at my house.
You know, it's like, you know, you try to try
to learn as much as you possibly can. It's like
(01:14:37):
you have a you have a thirst for it. And
you know, I always liked the strategy of it and
why they were running this kind of a defense. Why
why configure it like this? I was thinking about when
I was playing, you know, maybe getting into coaching or broadcasting.
Decided to go to broadcasting a way, because I'm telling you, man, coaches,
(01:15:00):
I bless you guys. The amount of hours these guys
put in around the holiday, the Thanksgiving holiday, players come
and go. I mean they're down there, they get their
work done. Their practical coaches are up there grinding. Man,
they're up there breaking down tape. They're up there spending
time away from their families. These coaches, man, I'm telling you,
it's tough duty. They get paid well, you know, and
(01:15:23):
it's a it's a high profile job and all that,
but man, uh, there's there's uh it's not all glory. Yeah,
you gotta roll your sleeves up and work, man.
Speaker 1 (01:15:32):
A lot of pressure that comes with that, man, And
you're you're trying to find an advantage. The other teams
trying to find an advantage. You're looking at the same
play and they're you're looking at that match up, they're
looking at that same match up. Right, Well, where is
his feet? His feet balanced on that play? Is he
tipping his hand every time they get ready to pass them?
Speaker 5 (01:15:49):
All?
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
I see him turning his right foot inside of it.
Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
You look for any little little keys? Yeah, you're trying
to find keys? Uh uh tells. We used to call it,
you know, uh and tips like you saying the same
type of thing, you know?
Speaker 1 (01:16:02):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
Yeah, how's he distributing his weight? Does he balance? Does
he move his feet parallel when he's pulling left when
he's pulling right? And have the right foot back but
he can't really move all that well. But that right
foot back is pulling to his left, So now you're
gonna be able to determine which way he's pulling. But
if you if you, uh, if you lean on that
too much, they can stuck you.
Speaker 5 (01:16:22):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:16:23):
It's like okay, well okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna parallel
my feet pull right, And this dude's playing like he's
pulling left, you know, and it's like, oh, Danny, see
I got you.
Speaker 1 (01:16:34):
I feel Eric Eric All who we had last week.
The first time he said that happened to him was
in Michigan. Yeah, he said. The coach came up, I
think the defensive coach came up to him and said, hey, man,
you're tipping the place. And he had no clue what
he was talking about. He said, what do you mean.
He says, well, every time you guys get able to
run the ball or whatever, he was doing something to
his feet right, and Eric said, I was totally oblivious
to it. Yeah, he said, you don't know. Yeah, that's
(01:16:56):
when I realized that this game, at uh, this level
will be in Division one football with the Michigans and
Alla Bamas of the world, or in the NFL. I
was watching film with John Ross, and you know, he's
talking about this guy's getting ready to blitz and he's
way out wide and I'm like, well, what are you
talking about. This guy's like he's down. He said, no,
he sunk his hips a lot lower. He's trying to
(01:17:17):
spring out of that stance and take that, you know,
take that line. Yeah, and you only get that from
watching film and you think about this game on Sunday.
This is a big game for Pittsburgh, it's a big
game for Buffalo, but it's also a big game for
the Bengals to watch because they need to find out
some things about Buffalo to take into that next game.
Speaker 5 (01:17:37):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
I mean, you know, you got a little short week.
You pay a price. You know, you don't you don't
have necessarily all the time you'd like to have to
prepare for an opponent. But the benefit is the following
week's a long week where you get the extra time. Yeah,
you know, you can have an extra day to to
bone up on the Buffalo Bills. And there's a lot
to study there. I mean, they get a hell of
(01:17:59):
a quarter I can know that, man. And they played
the game the right way. They played the game the
way it's supposed to be played, and Bengals gonna have
their hands full with the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 1 (01:18:10):
All Right, we come back. I want to talk about
that matchup just a little bit, and just about the
longevity of a season and how you just keep yourself
ready to go. This is the Bengals pep Rowley Show
presented about Just Bear Chicken broadcasting life from on the
Ride right here on the Bengals Radio Network. Welcome back
to the Bengals pep Rowley Show. Broad Jesse Live from
(01:18:32):
on the Ryde, presented about just Bear Chicken on the
Bengals Radio Network, Wayne Box full of Dave Lappam and
on the backside of a very impressive win the sin
sine Bengals over to Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore thirty two fourteen.
You know, Lap, as we wrap up in this hour,
what was the most impressive thing about that win for
you last night?
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
I think just I thought it was the most balanced
game that they had all season long. I thought, I
thought contributions were made by many and uh all three
phases offense, defense, special teams, UH players on all three
levels of it. Offense players, defensive players, special teams players.
I thought that that's a good sign because you know,
(01:19:15):
that's what they're gonna have to do to continue to
win football games. String some games together and see if
they can go on a run and uh maybe sneak
into the first round of the playoffs. You know that
that's the ultimate goal is to is to get into
the playoffs. And I thought that they've played their their
most complimentary Complete football Game of this year by far.
Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
Yeah, I don't care if it's backdoor, side door old
or if you stink and you get in, it doesn't matter.
Just get in right. How do you how do you sustain?
You know, at always says everybody's hurt by week ten.
It doesn't matter, right going down to stretch these last
few games. Is it really just getting the massages and
the rest and everything. How do you just kind of
(01:19:57):
keep your body functioning at a high level to the
point that you're still effective.
Speaker 3 (01:20:01):
Yeah, those things are important. Like you're talking about keeping
your body right, proper diet, proper rest, don't burn the
midnight oil, you know, don't burn the candle at both
ends right, and make sure you're you know that you're
not eating snack food and you know, candy and whatever
(01:20:22):
else all the time. I'm not saying deprive yourself totally,
but you know, eat sensibly. Make sure you're fueling your
body body properly. And getting the rest is big. The
rest is extremely important because it's a long season. Man,
It's a long grind. And as you get into the
(01:20:42):
the last third of the last third of the season,
you know, the guys that have taken care of their
bodies properly. Are the ones that are going to flourish,
the ones that are gonna play well down the stretch.
Speaker 1 (01:20:51):
No question about it. Coming up the third hour with
Sean Clipper's going to join us and a big game,
a lot of high school football now, the chance to
go to that final four, Saint Ex in Middletown, man
going at it, Indian Hill still in it, a lot
of Anderson, a lot of good football around it for
high school. But you know, the great thing about as
you said earlier, Lap, you know, it's his compressed schedule
(01:21:12):
on the front end, but on the back end, especially
for guys that are dealing with a few nicks and
bruises and bumps, they got a chance to get in
that tub a little bit more often and get some
treatment and get back together. Especially number nine. You know,
the great thing about it for him was, you know,
getting back after such a long absence and plane he
gets a little extra time and that is just perfect
(01:21:35):
storm for him and just the recovery process.
Speaker 3 (01:21:38):
Yeah, I think, you know, short week for his first week,
but now he's got the benefit of the long week.
If there is any soreness, and you gotta figure that
there is. Yeah, I mean he's got to steal plate
in the shooter, make sure that he doesn't bend that
turf toe, you know, too severely. So he's still got
some issues that he's dealing with. It's not one hundred percent,
(01:22:00):
or he wouldn't have that metal metal plate in there,
you know. I mean it's precautionary though. I think they
just want to make sure that that he doesn't do
it again too quickly. So yeah, it's it's if you
have I remember playing one year where I had a
separated shoulder, but it wasn't like totally out of out
(01:22:21):
of joint where you know, it didn't break and there
wasn't any danger of a like a bone popping out
to skin or whatever. But man, every time I hit
and they put like a foam rubber doughnut on the
thing to try to take pressure off. You took a
direct hit on it. But man, even with that, it
was like, oh, I mean, it felt like not not
(01:22:43):
a toothache. It felt like the dentist pulling every tooth
in your head out of your out of your mouth.
Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
Man, without numbing it.
Speaker 3 (01:22:50):
Right, without numbering it, It's like, oh, man, and then
and and you just playing every single snap and and
how many games you get left?
Speaker 1 (01:22:59):
Oh? Man, you do?
Speaker 5 (01:23:01):
You? You have to?
Speaker 3 (01:23:02):
Uh, you know, you got some tough guys with pain
tolerance is a big it's pain tolerance is a must
in the national football legue. Really, in any sport, you're
gonna have injuries. But I mean, like Tim Crumrae, that
dude he would play with, uh, you know, dislocations he'd
play with. Uh that that guy was so tough. I
(01:23:23):
mean he had that that awful injury where his leg
he had segmental fractures, which is hit. He had had
two fractures on his tibbium fibula right below his kneecap,
right above his ankle, four breaks and two bones, and
his leg was flopping like a fish man. There was
nothing to stabilize it, and he didn't play the rest
(01:23:45):
of that season, obviously, but he shows up a training
camp the next year ready to go, like, are you
kidding me?
Speaker 5 (01:23:53):
I mean I thought I thought he was done.
Speaker 3 (01:23:54):
Was like, there's no way this guy's ever gonna play again,
And he ended up coming back and playing a few
more years.
Speaker 5 (01:23:59):
He is un believable.
Speaker 1 (01:24:00):
They don't make them like that. Anore Laps on his
way out to Moler. He'll be there. I'll be here.
Shan Clipper, join us. It's the Bengals pep Rowley so

Welcome back to the Bengals pep Rowley Show, broadcasting live
right here on the Ride, presented by Just Bear Chicken
on the Bengals Radio Network. Hour number three. My pleasure
to welcome a fellow bomber. I get to say that, man,
you know. Let you see what I'm doing right there.
I started with the Green Bay Packers and Fifth Round
Draft Pickys. Now with the said Bingals. Welcome to the show,
(01:25:01):
Sean Clifford Man, Sean, thank you, Happy Thanksgiving man, Thank
you every Thanksgiving well First of all, happy Thanksgiving to
be have your feet on the ground after the plane
experience that you guys had. But let's start with the
reality family thing. How is how was Thanksgiving when you
finally got a chance to be with family?
Speaker 12 (01:25:20):
I mean still haven't yet.
Speaker 11 (01:25:22):
I mean we flew out what Wednesday, sat on the
tarmac for five hours. I think you saw that news,
and then game happens, come back.
Speaker 12 (01:25:30):
We got home at five five am.
Speaker 11 (01:25:33):
Yeah, and then now finally going to get out of
here pretty soon.
Speaker 12 (01:25:37):
You're just go see some family members.
Speaker 1 (01:25:39):
So you know, yeah, I know your time is limited,
and I understand why. I'm not going to say anything
about that, but thank you for making time. Of course,
let's talk about just the surrealness of a kid growing
up here. And I heard fantastic fun facts about your
parents getting you guys sees the tickets, you and your brother, yeah,
kind of bonding a little bit, and and and moments
(01:25:59):
like last night. For you to be part of this team,
to see the return of number nine, and to see
the way this defense played and the special Team's played.
You guys as a as a unit, a collective man,
you have a really good chemistry on this team.
Speaker 11 (01:26:14):
Yeah, no, And you can tell from an outsider looking
in the chemistry is there and you could see, especially.
Speaker 12 (01:26:21):
When nine comes back.
Speaker 11 (01:26:22):
And you know, a lot of guys have a lot
of respect for Burrow, and I think a lot of
people see it from the outside and they're like, oh,
I understand that, But then you get inside the building
and you start to then you're inside that room as well.
Speaker 12 (01:26:34):
It's not only that.
Speaker 11 (01:26:35):
You see it, you also know why, right, And it's
because the work that he puts in. It's the focus
that he has intensely every single day. I think it's
really cool to be able to watch him actually go
about his business from a practice to practice perspective as well.
And I get why he's such an elite talent.
Speaker 1 (01:26:51):
Now, well, I didn't get to say next until you
were leaving, and I heard the same thing about you
and people talked about this dude was just different. He
has said a different way of about doing things. And
to be that guy and now to be in a
situation where you observed another guy, I gotta believe that
(01:27:12):
your admiration for him is really on another level because
of what you had to do when you had the
opportunity to do it. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:27:19):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (01:27:19):
I think that.
Speaker 11 (01:27:22):
It's one thing to come off an injury and be
able to win a game, but to win the game
in that type of fashion, and to make some throws
that were so critical tight windows. It's a lot of respect,
and I think that there's respect across the room. I
think it was cool to see Flacco come in and
have the success that he had, especially on such a
(01:27:42):
short notice, I mean, same week.
Speaker 4 (01:27:45):
It was.
Speaker 12 (01:27:45):
It was almost like he was doing training.
Speaker 11 (01:27:46):
Camps the Packers when in his first week that he played.
But it is a testament to how hard he you know,
Flack has worked to this point and how many years
of experience that he has and now to be able
to pour that into a room with Burrow, with Browning
and myself. You know, it's a really really well connected room,
(01:28:07):
and I'm learning a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:28:09):
I was just great to say for you. It's got
to be somewhat exciting to say I'm here to win
a job and to prove and to commitce people that
I belong at this level. But also I'm watching nine
and I'm watching Flacco, and I'm thinking, man, I am
pulling knowledge and understanding this game from two guys, and
(01:28:30):
we talked about Joe Burrow, but man, Joe Flacco, the
years he's been in this game, how impressed were you
to be around this guy and to understand why and
grasp so much from him.
Speaker 11 (01:28:41):
Yeah, I think that the first thing that you need
to take care of is your own business every single day,
right You got to you got to make sure that
you're preparing to be the starter at any point. And
I think I feel like that mindset has been still
in me since I was a freshman at Britain State
or even Saint Zavior High School. I think that you
always want to prepare like you're the starter, but when
(01:29:02):
you have so much talent in front of you, you can
kind of take a step back and just be humble
a little bit and say, Okay, I'm not where I
want to be right now in the.
Speaker 12 (01:29:09):
National Football League.
Speaker 11 (01:29:10):
You want to be a starting quarterback, But at the
same time, look around and really really understand the the
benefits of being able to sit in a room with
those guys, learn here, here, here, and grow every single day.
Because I think that play in the quarterback position, you
you are able to take little nuggets here and there.
(01:29:32):
There's nothing going to be like super revolutionary all the time.
I mean, the concepts are concepts, and plays are plays,
and a lot of and a lot of you know,
across the league, a lot of teams run the same stuff.
But it's how you look at the broader scope, how
you read certain progressions, how you how you really I
think a testament yesterday was when we hit the Yoshi
(01:29:53):
on that little that through route. Yeah, that's one when
I was in Green Bay. You only talk about growing
that in very, very slim situations. But to see Joe
with so much confidence with an edge rush Samajre picks
it up, steps up through the pocket and makes such
a great great throws. It's little moments like that where
you got to take a step back and say, Okay.
Speaker 12 (01:30:15):
That's something I want to add to my game. That's
something I want to add to my reservoir.
Speaker 11 (01:30:18):
So that way, when the opportunity comes and presents itself,
you've seen it before.
Speaker 12 (01:30:24):
You know what it looks like. Okay, now just do it.
Speaker 1 (01:30:26):
Yeah, because I say all the time, football, more than
any other sport, is truly a year one play away
from being on the field game. And I look at
Jalen Davis last night and how he got his chance
and what he did. And I look at guys on
special teams, but I really go back from a quarterback
perspective to Jeff Blake, who was one of my clients
when I ran a sports marketing firm. You get David
(01:30:48):
Clingland gets hurt in Cleveland. Then I think it was Hollis,
I may have his name wrong. Who was the backup
he gets hurt in Cleveland. So we come to next
week Riverfront Staateium and come to Dallas Cowboy and they're like, oh,
we're gonna get mauled. You know which up Blake, life's
the place up. You know, all of a sudden, Dallas
is fighting for their lives to get to win. But
(01:31:09):
this quarterback emerged and it was a guy that said,
I am preparing as if I'm starting, because you never know.
And it came and he was ready. And that's for
you guys. You have to live that way that you
have to.
Speaker 11 (01:31:22):
And and I think the best story when I first
came into the league with the Packers specifically was Matt Flynn.
Matt Flynn was a guy who he was with the
pack He was backing up.
Speaker 12 (01:31:34):
Aaron and then goes down.
Speaker 11 (01:31:37):
Aaron goes down and he's called upon, and I think
he threw for like five touchdowns and three hundred plus
yards and he quite literally off of pretty much that game,
got a huge second contract and opportunity more in the league.
So it's such a The NFL is such a rare
profession because it really comes down to hundreds of thousands
(01:31:57):
of minutes and hours pairing, and it's how you go
about your day to day on those little time periods
for quite literally potentially maybe a sixty minute opportunity or
a thirty minute opportunity or a quarter you know, and
it's what you do with those opportunities, especially at the
quarterback positions, because it's so small might do and the
opportunities are so limited that you've got to be ready
(01:32:20):
to go. But when you are ready to go, if
you have that confidence is you know, the work that
you put in, you can go and execute really well.
Speaker 1 (01:32:26):
And I think that's the thing that I appreciate about
the position about you guys, is that you understand it
may be a series. You know, like you said, some
guys may get that break. Jeff Blake, Matt Planned, Okay,
two guys have run of me hurt. I mean rarely
does that happen. But in most cases it's opportunity where
you come in thinking the quarterback in Minnesota, now that
(01:32:47):
you know McCarthy is out and he's a Minnesota guy,
he's going to get his chance. But you have to
get the snaps. I believe. I've been around a lot
of football guys. I've done sports marketing and sports radio.
You know, the one thing that's misleaning to people if
you're thrown out there because it's an emergency. You know,
two guys go down. You may not look like you
(01:33:09):
know what you're doing and have a grass. It's only
because you just haven't had the snaps and the reps
and had the ability to do that. And thank goodness,
the coaches know that through and through, so they don't
hold that against you. It's when they know that you're
ready or that you should be ready, and they throw
you in that they expect you to do something that
shows that your head is in the game right.
Speaker 11 (01:33:29):
And I think that there's ways to get ready for
those moments. Yeah, And at the end of the day,
I think that I think with the media and with
the lights and how big of stage the NFL is,
you make it out to be so much larger than
it is. At the end of the day, when you
do get your opportunity, you're just playing ball like you're
(01:33:50):
really are.
Speaker 12 (01:33:50):
It's just like you're back back in the backyard Sinceana Ohio.
Speaker 11 (01:33:53):
Playing with your brother, like just making making throws, making
sure that you're on schedule, making sure that you're leading
at the right you know, the right way, because you know,
I feel like you can blow the moment up. And
then if you get in your head that way, yeah,
now you're thinking about everything. You're trying to make a
play instead of just doing your job. And so I
think I think it's being able to take a step
(01:34:15):
back every once in a while and just say, Okay,
you know what's the situation. Yeah, how can I best
support this team in this situation? And then let's let's
go from there.
Speaker 1 (01:34:25):
All right, we'll take a break, we'll come back. We're
talking to Sean Clifford, Bengals quarterback. You're listening to the
Bengals pep Rally Show, broadcasting live on the Ryan, presented
by just Bear taking on the Bengals Radio Network. Welcome
back to the Bengals pep Rawley Show, presented by Just
Bear taking on the Bengals Radio Network warring Box Miller
special guests Sean Clifford. I have to say saying next
(01:34:47):
because I spent six years there, so I guess I
can say like, I'm a Bomber and you're a Bomber,
but now I'm a Bengal employee. You're a Bengal employee,
so it's all good. It just continues. And uh, you know,
it's a beautiful thing, man, for you to walk out
there with that uniform on, to to go to that stadium,
(01:35:09):
to go into that locker room. You've worked very hard.
It is, Uh, what is the most satisfying thing for
you thus far, our long this journey. I think it was.
Speaker 11 (01:35:19):
I think for me personally, it's it's been about being
back in a city that gave me so much and
then putting you know, and and I'm gonna say my
last name on the back of a Cincinnati Bengals jersey,
but it took a village to get there. Yeah, And
I think it's really cool to hear the outreach from
so many different people that I, you know, have known
(01:35:41):
and loved and Cincinnati folks and Saint Xavier folks and
and kids that have aspirations to accomplish their dreams, whether
that be you know, in the NFL or something else.
I think that I like to I like to just
focus on the fact that, you know, that village has
taken me to a point where I could have only
dreamed and now to be able to be in that
(01:36:03):
locker room, to have that jersey, to run out on
the field when you know, my brother and I were
watching those games as kids. I hope that we can
be you know, inspirations to you know, the young Saint
X kid or the young Cincinnati kid who's trying to
do the same thing and have that success.
Speaker 1 (01:36:20):
You know, Sean. One of the other things I wanted
to ask you, I'm glad you brought up the thing
about the other kids, is that what did you take
from Saint X to Penn State? And then what did
you take from Penn State to Green Bay? And what
did you take from Green Bay to Cincinnati? What? What
are those assets and those things that you put in
(01:36:41):
your toolbox that you still have in there today. I
think that they've.
Speaker 11 (01:36:45):
Been the core fundamentals and the core values have always
been the same, you know, hard work, competing, sacrifice, having
a positive attitude, all the things that are the intangibles
of if you can just a com push those four really,
at the end of the day, you're gonna you're gonna
have put yourself in the best position to have success.
Speaker 12 (01:37:07):
And I feel like that's all you can do because
this game.
Speaker 11 (01:37:10):
Is so especially at the quarterback position, because we all know,
like you have to rely on so many different people.
Speaker 12 (01:37:15):
You know, it's not one guy.
Speaker 11 (01:37:16):
It's not like basketball or you just be Lebron got
to you got to be able to play, you know,
within a system with another ten guys trying to accomplish
the same goal, and a lot of people need to
do their job in order to do that. So I
feel like it comes down to a lot of trust,
a lot of trust and being able to be a
(01:37:36):
thermostat and really rise the temperature in the room instead
of just you know, bringing the competition down, always always
rising up the competition and really calling upon.
Speaker 12 (01:37:47):
Everybody to do their best.
Speaker 11 (01:37:48):
And I think that's honestly why a guy like Burrow
has so much success. His talent is so he's got
a he's an elite talent, yeah, a top top talent
in the NFL. But I think it's the the moxie,
it's the confidence, and I see it from the work
that he puts in.
Speaker 12 (01:38:07):
It's it's notable, and it's and it's.
Speaker 11 (01:38:09):
Uh, you know, I think he has every right to do.
Speaker 1 (01:38:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:38:14):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:38:14):
One of the other things that I appreciate about players
at this level is is they get to a place
of work understanding work life balance. Right, your football is
your life, but you also have a life. And you know,
now that you are married now and you have football,
you have that work life balance. How do you see
that as a value add for you?
Speaker 12 (01:38:33):
Yeah, I think that.
Speaker 11 (01:38:36):
I think having and work life balance is such a
funny thing because you know, I can't speak for.
Speaker 12 (01:38:42):
You in but like I love my job. Yeah, you know,
I love everything that I do.
Speaker 11 (01:38:46):
So whenever I go into the facility, whether it's you know,
I'm going in uh you know, a travel day and
we're getting in there at ten am, or if I
got to get up at five o'clock in the morning
and go go work.
Speaker 12 (01:38:56):
I've just never really felt like I've worked a day
in my life.
Speaker 11 (01:38:59):
You know, I get to play a kid's game for
you know, a pretty penny, that's for sure. I think
Joe even said something like that yesterday, and and I
and I think that, you know, it's it's realizing how
blessed we are in the situation that we are, and
the fact that we get to to play sports, and
we get to talk about sports, and we get to
(01:39:20):
do all the things that you know as a.
Speaker 12 (01:39:22):
Kid, like you know, Insincy, like up in Mason.
Speaker 11 (01:39:25):
Area, I was over, you know, I'd be in the
backyard and my brother and I would be like saying, oh,
two minute drill Cincinnati Bengals versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, Like
you're the Steeler, you know, and you're like just doing
all those fun things. And now to be able to
do that for my job, you know, when you and
you're going back to your question about work life balance,
I just feel like it's just life. It's just every
(01:39:47):
single day I get to wake up do amazing things,
you know, amazing things with some amazing people.
Speaker 12 (01:39:51):
And you know, that's that's the journey.
Speaker 5 (01:39:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:39:55):
My wife always said that. She she says, you love
what you do, and I said, yeah, I actually do
of what I do. And she she just can look
on her face right now because she just say, what
are you doing? I said, I'm going upstairs and work.
Speaker 5 (01:40:07):
So I got I got my little area upstairs, I got.
Speaker 1 (01:40:09):
My laptop, the TV going, and I'm writing my notes
and script out and everything. And and I tell people
all the time, you can really be close to this
game without playing the game, because everybody is not meant
to play the game. I mean, you guys are at
a different level. And I don't care if you number
won or number whatever on a NFL team. You are
(01:40:31):
an elite group of people because the competition for those
positions is more than people would ever imagine. And one
of the things that's stuck with me about you, and
I couldn't wait to have the moment to say this
to you, is that I thought you were so equipped
to understand how to interview, you know, during the time
(01:40:52):
that the draft is coming into play, and to be
able to look at coaches and gms and everybody and say, hey,
let me tell you who you're getting right, you know,
as a person, because I think so many times and
this is no knock against no one else. This is
just kudos to places like Planned State and places that
get you ready to just say, hey, understand, let them
(01:41:13):
know who you are, because a lot of decisions are
made at the last SPNT. On draft day, they may
have a guy on the board, or another guy on
the board, or a guy may not be on board,
but they have a conversation with a guy and they
walk away and say some about that guy. Man, it's different,
and I got to keep my eye on him and
where he falls. And I thought that you did a
great job of articulating who you were.
Speaker 11 (01:41:34):
No, I appreciate that, And I think it comes down
to it, you know. I always like to compare it
to what's going on in the real world.
Speaker 12 (01:41:41):
As i'd call it. Yeah, Like it's like sales.
Speaker 11 (01:41:44):
You know, you're going through that process and you're talking
to somebody and you know it could sound salesy, but
you know when it doesn't sound sales salesy is.
Speaker 12 (01:41:53):
When you know it's true.
Speaker 11 (01:41:55):
Yes, And so I don't think, you know, I try
not to lie through those processes, try to be very
open and honest about the abilities that I have and
what I bring to the table. Yeah, And I think
that that came out throughout the interview process because I
was just telling the truth about every situation, you know,
the leadership, the things that I think I do really well,
and the things that ultimately I'm looking to improve on
(01:42:16):
as well. And I think that sometimes, you know, I
think it's because the draft and the media and the
combine you and you have all these different things, Guys
feel like they need to come out and be like
someone completely different. But in reality, it's understanding your strengths,
understanding your weaknesses, understanding what you're going to attack on
a day day basis because you can still get better
at those things. I remember when I went to Penn State,
(01:42:39):
I think I was running a five flat forty.
Speaker 12 (01:42:41):
You know, and I you know, in my in my
my proday, I run a four five seven.
Speaker 11 (01:42:47):
So being able to to look at your weaknesses and
it's funny you're giving me that face like whoa.
Speaker 1 (01:42:56):
Yeah, because usually people taking if you take four tempts
of a second off or second off, no credible.
Speaker 12 (01:43:02):
So it was it. I'll never forget this moment.
Speaker 15 (01:43:05):
I was.
Speaker 11 (01:43:06):
It was in my freshman year at Penn State and
we're just practicing, and it was after a practice and
frank and James Franklin came up to me and I
appreciate him a lot for this.
Speaker 12 (01:43:14):
He was like, you can have a.
Speaker 11 (01:43:16):
Really strong career here, but if you can't run, You'll
never play here. And I and I took that to
heart and that was really and I feel like it
was those types of conversations where you just gotta you
gotta take take it on the chin, understand what he's trying.
He he you know, not how he's saying or or
but why he's saying it.
Speaker 12 (01:43:35):
Yeah, and I just looked internally, I was like, you
know what, this is a place where I can improve.
Speaker 11 (01:43:38):
I've always knew I was athletic, but I've just never
focused on speak because I was just always like, Okay,
I'll just be a.
Speaker 12 (01:43:42):
Passor a passer or passer.
Speaker 11 (01:43:44):
And then I went into that next summer I worked
with sakuon Barclay, you know, on on the hurdle, so
that really try to get those right. Marcus Allen, you know,
Chris god went, like all these guys that came back
in the program and are around, You're just asking about.
Speaker 12 (01:43:58):
Hey, how did you do these things?
Speaker 11 (01:44:00):
You know, and then challenging yourself, you know, stepping up
against like Jahan Dotson or Kja Hammler on a line
at Penn State just to just you know you're gonna.
Speaker 12 (01:44:07):
Get beat, but just to feel that speed.
Speaker 11 (01:44:09):
Yeah, yeah, And I feel like it's you know, that's
a little thing, but it's it's it's a microcosm of
a lot.
Speaker 12 (01:44:16):
Of different opportunities just to get better.
Speaker 11 (01:44:18):
And if you can just look at it that way,
you know, in life, you know, how can I just
get better? One percent better every single day? It's those
little details that will stack and eventually, Well.
Speaker 1 (01:44:28):
You mentioned sales, and it's so true, man, because I
mean everything is about articulating what you believe to be
true and following up right or whatever it is. So
if you're in sales, and I've been in salefore, you're
you're selling a service, a product or something, and and
you can mince someone that this is going to enhance, help, whatever,
but then you better make sure that that it does
just that. And I think that's what you've done to
(01:44:51):
position yourself well going forward. Is I think people realize
that Sean Clifford articulated these things, but he's going to
live them out. And I think that's one of the
great things that I'm looking forward to seeing with you,
is that you continue to evolve. I'm so happy that
you're in the room with a flac on a burrow
and a Brownie, because you know, I mean you look
(01:45:11):
at the intellectual capital of football IQ in that room, right,
My goodness. If I can't get something out of there,
shame on me, you know, in addition to what you
bring it, because everybody's bringing something to the party and
what you bring and taking all those things and just
putting them in a bowl, man and saying, hey, man,
look at what I came out of here with. It's
(01:45:33):
just something that's very exciting for me, for you, and
I'm very happy about that. I know that your time
is tight and you got to go, but I appreciate
you stopping in and hanging out with us today and
you know, wishing the best for you as you take
care of a few things you got to take care of,
all right, man, no doubt about it. Let's get my hand.
Sean Clifford SENTI Bengals Quarterback. This is the Bengals Pybody
(01:45:54):
is So presented by Just Bear Chicken broadcasting live on
the Rhine on the Bengals Radio Network. Welcome back to
the Bengalsap Rowley Show, present about Just Baar chickt on
the Bengals Radio Network broadcasting and on the Rhine. Right
here on hundred East Court Street. Thanks to Sean Clipper
for stopping down and Dave Lapham is out on his
(01:46:15):
way out at Mohler speaking out at Molar tonight. Again,
we're all celebrating, not only thanksgiving the thirty two to
fourteen convincing win over to Baltimore Ravens on the road
last night, the return of number nine Joe Burrow uh
sitting in the saddle and making things happen. So let's
get to some highlights on that first quarter and the
(01:46:37):
very first play of the game. Many people thought the
Bengals would run the ball, let Joe get a little loose. No, oh,
they just said, let's start throwing a ball from the
word go.
Speaker 13 (01:46:46):
Joe is under center on first and ten. The Bengals
have True Sample lining up a tight end to the left.
The running back is Chase Brown. It's a long count
for Joe. Stops the left foot, takes the snap, fakes
a handoff, rolls left short, caught by Mitch Tinsley, sprints
up the near sideline and goes out of bounds with
a gain of about eight as he shoved out by
(01:47:07):
Kyle Hamilton at the forty four yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:47:11):
So Joe burrow was often run at twenty four to
forty six for two hundred and sixty one yards and
two touchdowns. No I in t's on his first game
back and just telling you he came out of the
gate ready to throw the ball. Mingles drive stalled, and
then the first of six Moneymackfield goals happened on this
tim play drive.
Speaker 13 (01:47:31):
Kevin McPherson sent a franchise record with a sixty three
yard field goal last week. This one is much shorter,
in facted shorter than an extra point thirty one yards
from straight away. Punter Ryan Rico is the holder. Cincinnati
trying to score on its opening drive. The snap, the
right footed kick, a high spinning endover ran kick. It
(01:47:51):
is good.
Speaker 1 (01:47:54):
And the Bengals saga three nothing lead, But that lee
was short lived. Baltimore Raves got the ball back and
you thought this I turned into a high scoring game.
He goes on first and ten. King Henry shows why
he's so revered.
Speaker 5 (01:48:07):
Lamar Jackson is a stud.
Speaker 13 (01:48:09):
He has rushed for more than six thousand yards in
his NFL career. No quarterback is rushed for more. Here's
a toss sweep to the left to the twenty fifteen
ten five touchdown. The King Derrick Henry goes twenty eight
yards for the game's first touchdown.
Speaker 1 (01:48:29):
And the Bengals trail at that point. Seventh three. They
get the ball back and the only sack that was
given up in the game happened on this play.
Speaker 13 (01:48:38):
Cincinnati's showing pressure. On third down and nine, they send
five Lamar Jackson from the pocket. He has hit and
he goes down. The ball comes out as the Bengals
recover inside the five. About it.
Speaker 3 (01:48:58):
Offense running out in the field, can congratulate the defense.
Speaker 1 (01:49:03):
Well, Burrow got sacked, I missed up. Burrow got sacked
on the play before that by Humphrey. But Lamar Jackson, Man,
what a tough night he had against the Cincinni Bengals defense.
They kind of got under his skin all night. Seventeen
to thirty two, two hundred and forty six yards, one interception,
but he had several fumbles and hey man, hemp about
(01:49:23):
Johnson just recovering two fumbles in that game. And the
Bengals get the ball, try to get in the end zone.
They were in the Miami red zone and they couldn't
punch it in on the first few trials, so they
tried again on fourth down.
Speaker 13 (01:49:38):
The Bengals are seven for ten on fourth down conversions
this year. They are going forward on fourth and goal
from the two. They have the fourth best percentage in
the NFL on fourth down conversions at seventy percent. Chase
Brown in the backfield, burrowing the gun. He catches the
shotgun snap, he throws a pass and it is incomplete,
(01:50:00):
intended for Mike Kaseiki, broken up one yard deep in
the end zone, and the Ravens defense is going bananas
after stopping the Bengals when they had it first and
doll at the two yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:50:13):
Amazing, four snaps got nothing, Squad douche.
Speaker 1 (01:50:19):
And you know, credit to Baltimore Ravens defense for standing
up on that. The end of the first quarter, it
was seven to three the Ravens over the Bengals. The
Bengals were zero for three on third down efficiency in
that first quarter. Fifty two total net yards is sixty
one for the Ravens. And you knew that this was
(01:50:40):
going to be a game, but min he thought after
that both offenses would get going. But both defenses were
very much in control of that game. Chase Brown four
carries for thirteen yards, and Burrow in that first quarter
five or eleven and forty three yards he connected with
(01:51:00):
Drew Sample, Jamar, Chase Sama, JP Ryan, Mitchell Tensey, and
Chase Brown. So five different receivers in that first quarter
helped them get that done. So credit them. But again,
this was a game that started off like that, but
it got a little stingy, and the Bengals were trying
to get back in this game, which they indeed did
(01:51:22):
because they started to get in rhythm and Lamar Jackson
and the Baltimore Ravens, you know, just unexplicably a lot
of self inflicted wounds in this first half and later
in the game to put them in the hole. And
the Bengals and Joe Burrow were not going to let up.
They were not going to give them a chance to
get back in this game, which they did not, putting
(01:51:44):
them in position where they were playing catch up for
a while. So credit to Bengals offense, but more importantly
credited the Bengals defense and yes, special teams, because special
teams did their job as well in holding the Baltimore
Ravens at bay, not giving them great field position. We'll
take an early break, We'll come back in. You're listening
to the Bengals pep Rally presented by Just Bear Chicken,
broadcasting live from on the Ride on the Bengals Radio Network.
(01:52:11):
Welcome back to the Bengals pep Rally Show presented by
Just Bear Chicken on the Bengals Radio networkers at Live

This place of food, the atmosphere, the fully stocked bar,
everything don't get Friday Night Strikes presented by OHIOCAT celebrating
high school football across the region with games, giveaways and
who they spirit catch the Bengals in your community and
(01:52:34):
also for the best care for the best fans. It's
Cattering Health, official health care provider of the Cincinnati Bengals.
We got a couple of Bengal cheerleaders here today, Maris
Goots and and admitting hanging out with us. We appreciate that.
Let's get back to some more highlights. And the Bengals
tried to inch closer in this game. After an eleven
play drive stall, they call on the moneyment fiers and again.
Speaker 13 (01:52:58):
Running back eighteen. For twenty one this year, he has
not missed under fifty. This will be a forty two
yard try. The snap a little bit high, but handled
by Ryan Rico. The kick is on its way and
it is good to make it a one point game.
We have a timeout with eleven twenty four left in
the half. The score now Baltimore seven Cincinnati six.
Speaker 1 (01:53:23):
And the inchings so close. And then the defense steps
up on a big play that looked like seven for Baltimore.
Speaker 13 (01:53:33):
Jackson catches a shotgun snap from the pocket, inches up,
now throws and it is caught on the run at
the thirty twenty five to twenty likely to the ten
the five to the end zone touchdown Baltimore forty three
yards on a short crossing route to tight end Isaiah Likely.
Speaker 5 (01:53:57):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:53:58):
Danny came underneath and came all the way across the
football field, and boy, he lost control of the football
before he crossed the goal line.
Speaker 5 (01:54:05):
I don't know what he was doing.
Speaker 3 (01:54:06):
I don't know if he was you're gonna try to
celebrate a little bit.
Speaker 13 (01:54:10):
I mean he extends the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:54:13):
Yeah, I'll tell you what. That was one play that
really I think turned the game around. Burrow gets back
out on the field and was an old, familiar combination
of Burrow to Chase.
Speaker 13 (01:54:27):
Shotgun snapped to Burrow fakes the chase brown. He's gonna
fling it deep down the field for Jamar Chase. What
a catch over the shoulder, blanketed by Marlin Humphrey. One
man on the face of the earth can make that
catch and his name is Jamar Chase. Forty three yards and.
Speaker 5 (01:54:45):
Humphrey can't believe it when he made the catch.
Speaker 3 (01:54:48):
Humphrey just looked there up in the sky like, come on, Lord,
help me here a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:54:54):
Yeah, he can't help you. Jamar Chase is an unstoppable
If you're gonna play him one on one, better luck
to you next time. The Bengals put eleven play drive
together again, back to back eleven play drives, but also
back to back settling for field goals.
Speaker 13 (01:55:11):
Riyardfield goal try from the right hash Evan McPherson looking
for his third field goal of the half. Wagner ready
to snap it back now the right footed kick, and
the Bengals have the lead. With two thirty six left
in the half. It is Cincinnati nine Baltimore seven after
Moneymack's third field.
Speaker 1 (01:55:29):
Goal of the night, and it was a lead they
would never relinquish in the defense. If you thought they
were playing good, they would just getting started, especially Joseph Osai.
On this third and ten play.
Speaker 13 (01:55:42):
Flowers goes in motion, Lamar back to throw. Here comes
to split it aside. Berry's Lamar Jackson on the logo
at the forty eight. He came like a heat seeking
missile for his second sack of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:55:56):
Untouched.
Speaker 5 (01:55:57):
Untouched.
Speaker 3 (01:55:58):
Now that's gonna be as protection assignment error right there.
You cannot let a defensive end who's in a three
point stance come free. No one lays a fingernail on him.
Speaker 1 (01:56:11):
I'll tell you what. Josephusai when the healthy man, he
just gets you so excited about his ability and hopefully
he stays healthy for the rest of the year. The
defense continue because Lamar Jackson had trouble holding the ball.
Speaker 13 (01:56:26):
Baltimore goes empty. Lamar catches the shotgun snap, Cincinnati rushes four.
Lamar with time pump fakes, loses the ball. The Bengals
fall on it at the nineteen yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:56:38):
Yes, yes, I'll tell you what. Very little time left
and a half enough for the Bengals to get in
position on the floor. Four play drive. They turn the
money back for another field goal, and.
Speaker 13 (01:56:52):
The Bengals will settle for a field goal try as
Evin McPherson looks to tie his career high for a
game with four first half this will be a thirty
three yard attempt. Here comes the right footed get the
blasts it through with ten seconds left in the half
to give Cincinnati a twelve to seven lead.
Speaker 1 (01:57:13):
And definitely a lee like I said, they would never
relinquish in that. The Bengals had eleven first downs in
that first half compared to seven for the Ravens, but
the Bengals three of eleven on third down the Ravens
two of five, So the Bengals definitely want to improve
on that. But total net yards two six to one
fifty four for the Bengals, and they were getting going.
(01:57:35):
Chase Brown started getting the rhythm. His average was up
to five yards, which he maintained over the last three games.
Chase Brown has averaged five plus yards of carry and
one hundred yards of offense, whether running or passing the ball.
He isn't a groove. He is locked in. If he
continues to play that way, play action with he and
(01:57:56):
Joe Burrow is going to be something special. But Chase
Brown Conte used to play well in that respect. Joe
Burrow at the half fifteen to thirty two hundred and
sixty five yards, no touchdowns, but no interceptions as well.
Jamar Chase at half had ten targets only four receptions,
but Chase Brown four targets, four catches, Mitchell Tinsley's seven targets,
(01:58:18):
two catches, samajp Ryan two targets, two catches, Drew Sample
two targets, one catch. Gasiki caught a ball, caught the ball.
So Joe Burrow once again spreading the ball around. I
think that's one of the things that makes Joe Burrow
so good. Joe Burrow will find the open guy. It
doesn't matter if it's one, if it's five, if it's whoever,
(01:58:41):
whoever's open, whoever runs a route, whoever he sees making
the play, is going to do that. So defense played
big in that first half. Jordan Battle three tackles, also
had the force fumble and Joseph Osai three tackles, two
sacks totally in eighteen yards as far as tackles for
(01:59:02):
loss and really got it done. Bart Carter three tackles
and Demetrius nine two but this defense is starting to
really jail the last three games twenty points, nineteen points,
and twelve points, so respectively, seventeen points a game is
all they're giving up over the last three weeks. If
they can continue that, it'll be a very big challenge
(01:59:23):
going into Buffalo next week to see if they can
maintain that. However, they will get a chance to get
a close look at Josh Allen because the Buffalo Bills
are on the road in Pittsburgh to play the Steelers,
So another AFC North team will give the Bengals a
little bit more intel into how they can play Buffalo
in terms of what they do well, what they may
(01:59:45):
not do well. But in the case, there's going to
be an opportunity to learn and just get a little
bit more prepared for a big game. It's a one
game season, not this Sunday. The following Sunday, as they
head up to Buffalo, we'll take a break, We'll come back.

Fi and Internet provider of the Bengals and Greater Cincinnati's
fastest Internet with up to two gigs of symmetrical speed.
That's the way they felt like the Bengals were playing
last night once they got in gear. In the third quarter,
Joe Burrow makes an absolutely beautiful throw to Tanner Hudson,
completing a ten play drive.
Speaker 13 (02:00:53):
Joe is ready catches the shotgun, snap begins scrambling right,
Burrow throwing downfield for Hudson. He's got it. Wow, touchdown Bengals.
What an adjustment to the ball by Hudson and he
knocks over the back right pylon for a fourteen yard touchdown.
Joe Burrows first since returning from the toe injury.
Speaker 1 (02:01:17):
There was a ten play, sixty one yard drive that
ate up five minutes and twenty six seconds. I tell
you what the Bengals man, They were putting some drives together.
Eleven play drive in the second quarter five minutes and
nine seconds, then a second eleven play drive seventy four
yards five minutes and forty six seconds, and then this
one is a ten play drive. We're given the Bengals
(02:01:39):
a nineteen to seven lead. But the Baltimore Ravens were
relentless trying to come back, and they got back on
the board again on this play.
Speaker 13 (02:01:49):
Here's a toss to the right. The Bengals were in
bad position, Mitchell running to the five to the goal line,
touchdown Ravens. The Bengals flowed in the wrong direction and
when they pitched it to the speedy Keaton Mitchell, there
was nobody home to bring him down.
Speaker 3 (02:02:04):
So much for the two score lead, that's by the books.
Speaker 1 (02:02:09):
It's over, no, you know what. It was a seventh
play drive. It put Baltimore close, but Joe Burrow said,
we need to put some more distance in here, and
this was a shorter drive. If you want a play
sixty eight yards. They got the matchup. They won it
for Yosi Vash.
Speaker 13 (02:02:29):
Throwing the shotgun p Rind to his right shotgun snap,
Joe under pressure, flings it down the middle of the field.
Yo c Bosh leaves at the three and takes it
into the end zone a twenty eight yard touchdown to
Andre Yo Sivosh and the Bengals lead is back to
eleven with a pat coming up.
Speaker 3 (02:02:51):
I love the way Yosi caught the football, get up
and just you know, quietly let the ball roll off
his hand and looked at the crowd.
Speaker 5 (02:02:59):
The Baltimore Crowns did.
Speaker 13 (02:03:00):
How about that throw?
Speaker 5 (02:03:01):
Yeah, oh, just dynamite.
Speaker 1 (02:03:04):
There's only one number nine that he belongs to us.
He's in the Bengal stripes. We go in to fourth
quarter twenty six fourteen. The Bengals are still out front,
playing well and Lamar Jackson, who had just to night
he'd like to forget about, had another bad play.
Speaker 13 (02:03:20):
Huge play here, third and nine at the Cincinnati fifteen,
the Bengals showing pressure. They've got seven guys up on
the line. Lamar drops back. Lamar throws downfield into the
end zone. Yep intercepted Drius Knight running it back. He's
at the thirty thirty five forty spin move there and
tackled around the forty five yard line. A tip at
(02:03:41):
the line results in a pick for Dimitrius Night and
the Bengals get their fourth takeaway and Night runs it
back thirty six yards.
Speaker 1 (02:03:52):
And they put themselves in position to call on mister
automatic in this game, and Evan McPherson goes from beyond
the fifty online.
Speaker 13 (02:04:01):
Evan McPherson, who will look for his fifth field goal
of the game, which would be a new career high.
Tony Mack's going to be a long one fifty plus
hit from sixty three last week, also hit from fifty
four last week. This will be a fifty two yard try.
Cincinnati trying to take a fifteen point lead in the
(02:04:23):
fourth quarter, less than ten minutes to go. Rookie Will
Wagner ready to snap it back to second year punter
Ryan Rico. Snap is good. Here comes the kick on
its way, and it is good.
Speaker 4 (02:04:36):
Yes.
Speaker 13 (02:04:37):
Evan McPherson with five field goals in a game for
the first time in his NFL career, and Cincinnati has
a fifteen point lead with nine minutes and twenty five
seconds to go.
Speaker 1 (02:04:51):
And what we all long to hear when Zay Flowers
put the ball on the ground is Dave Lapham and Coffin.
Speaker 13 (02:04:59):
Nails shotgun stabbed to Lamar Ravens operating quickly side Oni
throw caught by Za Flowers falls is the ball he
so Bengals scoop it up. CJ Turner runs it to
the thirty six and that's a fumble recovered by Cincinnati
and that is coffin Nail. Bam, bam bam.
Speaker 5 (02:05:22):
I mean that's uh.
Speaker 3 (02:05:24):
You talk about getting squeezed, tried to squeeze between two defenders,
ball us out and just a clean scoop by DJ Turner.
Speaker 5 (02:05:33):
Man, he picked that up flawlessly.
Speaker 1 (02:05:36):
All right. That's it. Lazier Delman, thank you for joining
us tonight. We'll see you next week on behalf of
the Cincinnati Bengals. All I gotta say is Hooday, good night, everybody.
