wind chill. With the nine o'clock report, I'm Jack Crumley
breaking now.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
If you have to travel, allow a lot of extra time.
It's still going to be a slow go this morning.
I'm looking at the interstates, for example, in Cincinnati, and
there's still a lot of snowpack on those.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Matt Brouning with ODAD, which had roughly twelve hundred trucks
out across the state yesterday dealing with the winter storm
that dumped four to eight inches of snow here across
the tri state CBG. In the southern part of the
Cincinnati area, less snow recorded there, compared to six inches
in deer Field and Mason five inches for Loveland and Lebanon.
The snow is done, but now it's bitter cold.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Because we're seeing those temperatures in the single digits. You know,
it's certainly going to make it more challenging for the
crews to get the roads open again, to bear pavement
where we'd like it to.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Be, and that will continue to be an issue into Monday.
More coming up right now though the latest traffic and
weather together, no major accidents or backups have been reported
right now. However, roads are still potentially slick in places.
Rural routes still have snow on them. Be careful driving
this morning.

It may be better cold outside, but the warmth of
the Bengals still radiates because today at pay Course Stadium,
today the Baltimore Ravens fly into town as the Bengals
try to keep their minuscule playoff hopes alive, staring down
the gun at a team that was humiliated three weeks
ago and now is back here in Cincinnati seeking revenge.
(08:14):
That's the storyline as we begin today here live from
the Holy Grail of the banks of the Mighty Ohio.
Speaker 24 (08:20):
So cold.
Speaker 12 (08:21):
I saw a steam coming off the Ohio River as
I crossed the bridge. Steam, I say, And now here
we are in the warmth of the Holy Grail, where
you should be If you're going to the game, stop
by here, get lubricated, get warm, and then go to
paycourp with Bowagger and Tony Pike. Yes, I am ken
Brew and we're ready to roll today, gentlemen. The importance
of today's game, Tony, how do you view this?
Speaker 15 (08:42):
If you're going to the game, surely you don't want
to be outside tailgating. No, co come to the Holy Grail,
hang out here until kickoff.
Speaker 25 (08:51):
Why were you crossing the bridge road game.
Speaker 12 (08:54):

Speaker 26 (08:55):
Okay, what don't live in Kentucky.
Speaker 12 (08:59):
I know that the driver had oh the driver who
here went across the Okay, well, anyway, you're right.
Speaker 26 (09:06):
It's it is really really cold out there, So join
us here at the Holy Grail and get set for
you know, today must win game.
Speaker 15 (09:13):
And you delivered an important PSA or your social media yesterday?
Can you just I did? I had a PSA on
social media yesterday? It's and just really quick.
Speaker 12 (09:23):
Well, we just don't go outside unless you need to.
Speaker 26 (09:27):
No, that wasn't my PSAO, though that is good advice.
Remember it's cold today, let's acknowledge that. But if you
go to the game today and you happen to remark, hey,
it's really cold. If if somebody hears you who attended
the nineteen eighty one AFC Championship game, they will inform you,
under no uncertain terms, it's not as cold as it
(09:47):
was the day of the Freezer Ball, which it's not
allowed to be cold at any other football game because
we had the Freezerble forty four years ago.
Speaker 12 (09:53):
Right, and those people were never there?
Speaker 26 (09:55):
Oh right, yes, yeah, I've met more people who were
at the Freezer Bowl, and you always have to listen
to their story worries too. Oh yeah, I went to
the game with my grandpa and we took our shirts
off of the game and then our car battery.
Speaker 25 (10:05):
FROs Like, oh good god.
Speaker 26 (10:07):
I've met more people who went to the Freezer Bowl
than could actually fit into that stadium.
Speaker 12 (10:12):
But you did a PSA. I did just a word
of advice to you. At your age, you should be
taking a PSA.
Speaker 24 (10:18):
Wow, you're right about that, well, Tony, what is a
massive game?
Speaker 12 (10:22):
What do you I heard this a lot this week,
particularly from the raven side. What is the most important
thing to keep warm? Your hands or your feet? For
me as a quarterback? Hands, you know, as long as
you're moving around, your feet are going to stay warm.
And with I mean you can wear six pair of
socks if you need to hands, you're you're exposed more
(10:45):
to the elements it's cold. It affects the passing game.
I think in a game like this you rely more
on the running game. Game like this, turnovers mean more.
And if you look at this, Ravens team would turn
it over five times a couple of weeks ago against
the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 24 (10:59):
That starts is highlighted.
Speaker 15 (11:00):
But what's interesting today These two teams played each other
sixteen days ago, their AFC North rivals. So there's nothing
that's going to be on the field today that's new.
Who can execute, who can scheme, and who can protect
the football is going to determine who wins the game.
It's not like there's gonna be some magic formula of
or they've never seen this play before. You know the
personnel of your opponent, you know what they like to run.
(11:24):
Who can win one on one matchups against the other team.
Speaker 26 (11:27):
And for all the discontent here over how the Bengals
have fared this season, boys, it's at a similar level
in Baltimore, where they had won five straight games. Frankly
looked totally unprepared against the Bengals on Thanksgiving Night. Got
beat last week by a very okay at best Pittsburgh team.
There was the touchdown that was taken away Isaiah Likely
in the fourth quarter that has people upset.
Speaker 25 (11:49):
But this is a Raven's team.
Speaker 26 (11:50):
We talk about like must win for the Bengals, and
I guess mathematically it is. If you're Baltimore, your season
is starting to spiral out of control. Their schedule after
today is very off. They need today badly, and I
think it's gonna be interesting if the Ravens missed the postseason.
What the conversations are about John Harbaugh, who's got a
(12:11):
wonderful resume, terrific coach. But man, they've They've had a
lot of really good teams, a lot of really good
personnel decisions. They've spent money in free agency, they've invested
in Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 25 (12:22):
Not a ton of postseason success.
Speaker 26 (12:23):
What if they're on the outside looking in that fate
they come closer to that if they lose today.
Speaker 15 (12:28):
They were one of the co favorites to win the
Super Bowl going into the season. Yeah, look at what
they did on the defensive side of the ball. I mean,
we gave them a lot of credit. They went out
and got Jay or Alexander. That was a complete dumpster fire.
They drafted what we thought was well. They had deficiencies
on defense, and they tried to attack him in multiple
ways and it hasn't worked. Lamar looks like a shell
(12:49):
of himself. Derrick Henry has not been as dominant as
a Derek Henry we've seen in the past. They still
don't have a true drop back passing game if they
need to have it. There are an enough questions in
Baltimore right now, and if you miss the playoffs going
into the year as one of the favorites to win
the Lombardi, those questions just get bigger and bigger.
Speaker 12 (13:08):
Well, if Baltimore is six and seven, they play here today,
then they they got to New England on Sunday Night
football next week short week, plays Saturday against at Green
Bay and finish up at Pittsburgh. It is brutal. And
what's even worse from their standpoint is you get into
tie breakers and it's not there. I mean, if you
get down to conference record, they're four and five right now,
(13:29):
two and two inside the Division so it's all working
against them. As for Pittsburgh, they play tomorrow night against Miami,
they won't have TJ. Watt, then at Detroit, at Cleveland,
and finish up with Baltimore. Pittsburgh needs basically whether they
seven and six, so they need three wins in their
last game to get to ten, two to get to nine.
I think nine probably wins this division.
Speaker 15 (13:51):
If the Bengals went out, Baltimore would have to go
two and two. Pittsburgh would have to go one and
three down the stretch for the Bengals to, as you
mentioned at the top, have those hopes to get in
the play but with those schedules, it's still a possibility.
I mean, Pittsburgh is not playing good football. They're gonna
be without TJ.
Speaker 12 (14:07):
Watt.
Speaker 24 (14:08):
If Pittsburgh goes one to three.
Speaker 15 (14:09):
You mentioned Baltimore schedule down the stretch, you could knock
one of those games off today. The hardest part about
that would be the Bengals going four and zero down
the stretch. Regardless of what you think of the competition.
They've had thirteen chances this year and they've won four
of them. And all you hear all week, well, all
the Bengals need to do is just win four in
a row.
Speaker 24 (14:27):
Well, they've struggled to win four.
Speaker 15 (14:28):
All season, so yes, are the chances there, absolutely, And
if you win today, is he easier going to have
that conversation tomorrow, especially if the Dolphins can beat the Steelers.
Speaker 24 (14:40):
But you're we just keep kicking.
Speaker 15 (14:43):
The can down the road here on the Bengals of
last week felt like gotta win that one and it
was there for the taking in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 24 (14:49):
You didn't.
Speaker 15 (14:50):
Now you're trying to move the goalpost again. Eventually, it
comes down to winning football games.
Speaker 26 (14:54):
I think that the problem is from a schedule perspective,
is Pittsburgh and Baltimore played one more time against each other,
and so one of them is going to win, get
one more win, and you're looking up at both. But
you're right, Tony. I mean, I've heard it a lot.
I heard it going into last week. Well they beat Baltimore,
now they just got to run the table. Okay, cool,
you're trusting this team to do that you saw last week,
while you can't trust this team to do that. I
(15:14):
certainly think there's a very good chance the Bengals win
the football game today. I certainly think there's a chance.
They go to Miami next week and win that football game.
They're going to be favorites in there last two. They
can win each of those games. You're asking a four
to nine team to win all of them with a
defense that continues to not be able to beat people
in the fourth quarter and a quarterback who's not having fun.
Speaker 12 (15:33):
If I had a bet, I bet Pittsburgh beats Miami tomorrow,
I would agree. And if I had a bet, I
think Pittsburgh goes to Cleveland and wins. Cleveland's got a
great defense. I'm not taking anything away from them. Let's
see what Tchudor Sanders really has up his sleeve, and
then if Baltimore's out of it at the end, they
win that game too. So I mean, if I had
to pick somebody right now, it's Pittsburgh. But this is
(15:55):
critical for Baltimore. Baltimore doesn't win today, it's basically over
for these dudes.
Speaker 25 (15:58):
It's Curtains.
Speaker 12 (15:59):
Yeah. I think one of the things that we want
to touch about in this show is ball security. That's
what killed Baltimore in that game three weeks ago. Now,
all of a sudden, here they are today in the
cold where it's very difficult to control the football. But
if they do that offense could have a huge game
because they got tight ends and we all know what
(16:19):
tight ends due to the Bengals defense. So I mean,
if I'm John Harbaugh, I'm just saying, look, get some
some of that that stick them. Remember that stickham the
waivers used to use. Get some of that Derrick Henry
and put that on and just put on a little shirt,
little hand, and same thing with you know your quarterback,
Lamar Jackson, just don't turn the ball over to me.
Speaker 24 (16:39):
It's been Lamar.
Speaker 15 (16:40):
You know, you take the Isaiah Likely fun That's a
great play by Jordan Battle a couple of weeks ago,
but it's been the play of Lamar Jackson just uncharacteristic.
One thing Lamar has always been good at us is
keeping possession of the football.
Speaker 24 (16:53):
Now he's getting a little loose with that.
Speaker 15 (16:54):
He's not as willing of a runner as we've seen
in the past, which leads me to believe that he's
compromise now. This week for lamar's a little interesting because
he didn't have an injury designation at practice all week,
which is the first time in what feels like forever,
So maybe he is feeling better today. In my opinion,
comes down to teams that can run the ball and
the possession passes. That's all Baltimore wants to do. They
(17:15):
don't have the home run threat. They want to find
their tight ends over the middle. That doesn't bode well
for the Cincinnati Bengals, But for the Bengals on the
other side, you want to talk about a team that
probably just wants to get out on the field and play.
Trey Hendrickson news comes down this week, Chamar practices, Chamar
is not going to play this week. Joe Burrow. I
know we're gonna spend some time talking about Joe Burrow
today and him not being happy. There's been a lot
(17:36):
of news around the Cincinnati Bengals this.
Speaker 12 (17:38):
Week and the Burtons going to be a situation.
Speaker 15 (17:44):
Imagine like what they're gonna do, like a video tribute
for him? Play the end of the year Cleveland game
won't take long all four catches.
Speaker 25 (17:50):
Yes, but it is.
Speaker 15 (17:51):
It's like, what what Baltimore did. They can't wait to
get on the field and try to avenge that. And
for the Bengals, what a weird week it's been from
a pr standpoint, From a who's gonna play, who's not
gonna play. You just want the game to start at
this point. And if you're the Bengals, based on what
Joe Burrow said this week, you want to win today.
Speaker 24 (18:12):
You don't want to let that continue to go on.
Speaker 26 (18:13):
Yeah, I mean, I know we're gonna talk about Burrow,
and I know there's a lot of takes out there,
and many of them are really, really bad. But Joe
Burrow painted a very bleak picture for the current state
of this organization. Can you imagine how bad it would
get if they lose today, what the next three weeks
look like. I don't think you want to go down
that road this game today. When I think of that
game on Thanksgiving Night, the first thing I think of
(18:36):
is at halftime, going, why does Derek Henry only have
five carries?
Speaker 25 (18:40):
So, if I'm.
Speaker 26 (18:41):
Baltimore knowing that Lamar is not himself, whether he's physically compromised,
whatever it is, Derek Henry's gonna get that many carries
in the first series, uh, And he got They got
back to him last weekend twenty five carries against the
Pittsburgh Steelers. He wasn't great, average less than four yards
of pop but to me, in that game, there were
all the turnover but Baltimore played right into the Bengals
(19:02):
hands and decided to make themselves one dimensional. I am
in this weather not getting away from Derrick Henry today.
And by the way, when he ran it, he was effective.
Speaker 24 (19:10):
You know what I wouldn't want to do today with
the temperature tackle Derrick Henry?
Speaker 12 (19:13):
Right, you know what I would want to do today?
Anything outside take a break this.
Speaker 15 (19:19):
Look at that code out there that is that is spectacular.

It is time we gather at the grail to be

Speaker 25 (24:01):
Did we get each other gifts?
Speaker 12 (24:03):
I got you guys gifts last year. I got nothing back.
You give ushead that's right, yeah, yeah, Go online and
see how much of those things that were.
Speaker 25 (24:10):
I don't have a bubblehead. He does, have?
Speaker 15 (24:11):
You not received it yet? I sent it out last week?
What them back to me? The bobble heads we have to.
Speaker 25 (24:17):
Tell you what.
Speaker 26 (24:17):
I'll tell you what I got for Oh okay, no, no.
Speaker 12 (24:19):
No, Tony raised a good point. You raised a good
point about playing each other, you know, so quickly. Yeah,
and there's no secrets. Here is the Ravens offensive coordinator,
a guy by the name of Todd Monkin, well respected
in the coaching industry. About the rematch happening.
Speaker 40 (24:37):
So soon, you're gonna look at what you had up
for the first game, what they did. They're gonna look
at us, what we did, what we did well, what
they did well, how we combat that? And now we
just execute better because we had every opportunity in that game.
Speaker 38 (24:52):
We were moving the football and we were backed up.
Speaker 40 (24:54):
We just got to take care of the football and
uh continue to strive. You know, the in diligent and
that shot high level white like we are capable of doing.
Speaker 12 (25:03):
Yeah, highlight capable of what we're doing, because they certainly
didn't do that.
Speaker 15 (25:08):
You know why his voice sounds like that. He's not sleeping.
Oh that's right, he's been sleeping at the office. These
football coaches, that's right. These football coaches work really hard,
really really hard. They have no time for anything else
unlessures that was on Dave Shuler's staff, and I can't
remember his name.
Speaker 12 (25:23):
I think it was his offensive coordinator or something. He
brought a cot into oh, yeah, spinning if they have
to work that hard cot into spinning field and was
politely told to get that out of here.
Speaker 15 (25:35):
Sharon Moore had a cot in his office. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (25:39):
And by the way, uh Moe has come bearing gifts
today to all that are gathered here at UH at
the Holy Grail Shoolers coupons mo Win Shulers. Is that
Win his first name? Or is that like win with Shoolers?
Speaker 25 (25:57):
Give me both.
Speaker 12 (25:58):
But these are great Before wore great cheese like she spreads.
And no, we didn't bring crackers, and you obviously can't
spread the coupon on crackers. But you could take this
to your local grocery store, or.
Speaker 25 (26:09):
You could put in a Christmas card or put it
in a car.
Speaker 15 (26:11):
Couldn't believe would you dare have a Christmas or holiday
gathering without wind shoulders?
Speaker 26 (26:17):
Well you know what the the the impending snow coming.
Yesterday morning night I went to my local grocer and
stocked up nice and I was charitable. I didn't I
left some for everybody else, but I had a full
shopping cart of wind Schuler's cheese spread. Yea, but we
have coupons here because those are I consider the wind
Schuler's cheese spread and essential.
Speaker 24 (26:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (26:36):
Yeah, it's kind of like one of the four basic
food groups. Yeah, there used to be five, but now
wind Shuler has captured two of those that were down
the four.
Speaker 25 (26:43):
So what was it, Todd Monkin? Yeah? They so they
played sixteen days ago Bengals, and.
Speaker 12 (26:47):
It's the body of your work. It's not necessarily what
you scheme for this game.
Speaker 25 (26:51):
Yeah, I don't disagree.
Speaker 24 (26:53):
It's already like that.
Speaker 15 (26:54):
Yeah, how many you've played Lamar Jackson so much? They've
played Joe Burrow and Jamar.
Speaker 24 (26:59):
Ch so much.
Speaker 15 (27:01):
And it's you know, anytime you go into a game
without T Higgins, it's devastating, right, But this is the
way you went into the last game with Baltimore. T
Higgins didn't play in that game, and Joe Burrow found
nine different receivers and he spread the ball around. They
still targeted Jamar Chase fourteen times. He caught seven of them.
But the blueprint is already there. Like I said before,
(27:23):
this game today comes down to execution because they know
what you're gonna do. You know what they're gonna do.
You've got to win those one on one battles. You've
got to make in game adjustments. You've got to out
Scheme is a This is a big coat. We talk
about Zach.
Speaker 24 (27:35):
Taylor a lot. I'm talking about al Goling a lot.
Speaker 15 (27:38):
This is a big scheme game, in a coach adjustment
game to see who can make the correct ones.
Speaker 26 (27:44):
And I'll say this, things unfolded the way they did
in the fourth quarter, but I thought for three quarters
the Bengals offense really function nicely. Joe Burrow was terrific,
but I thought they didn't run the ball that effectively.
But I thought in terms of just execution the Bengals offense,
the way they start the game, you couldn't have drawn
it up any better.
Speaker 25 (28:02):
So there was something to build on in that one.
Speaker 24 (28:05):
They've gotta be better in the low red zone.
Speaker 25 (28:07):
Gotta be better than low red Mikeasicki was terrific.
Speaker 26 (28:10):
I do think they're gonna have to tap into the
running game that they didn't necessarily last week against Buffalo
and in the first game against Baltimore, Joe Burrow dropped
back way too many times that's that's not tenable. But
I do think last week, and you know, Burrow throws
the pick six and then the game goes the way
it does. But I thought for three quarters you looked
at that Bengals offense and said, this is pretty good.
This is well run. Joe was playing great. They targeted Tea,
(28:32):
they targeted Jamar. If we see another version of that today,
I think they have more than a puncher's chance to
win the football.
Speaker 12 (28:40):
I think they're gonna line up Miles Murphy in the wildcat. Ooh.
I think that's why that's the new wrinkle they're going
to unveil today, or Miles Murphy in the wildcat.
Speaker 26 (28:51):
So you're saying, Miles Murphy has done such a good
job of mastering edge rusher yep, that we could expand
his responsibilities and they.
Speaker 25 (28:58):
Have put him in the back.
Speaker 15 (28:59):
Now they have so much more depth at edge rusher
that they can use him in different situations.
Speaker 12 (29:04):
So that's my thing. I think you're gonna see that
probably in the first series. Okay, probably like on a
third and twenty two.
Speaker 26 (29:10):
So you're taking like a Miles Murphy anytime touchdown wager.
Speaker 12 (29:14):
I'm about to buy into Miles Murphy likewise, I'm he is.
He's kind of like that thing you do and you're
not sure you want to buy it because you're not
sure if it's going to look good on you. But
as you look more at it, you get more tantalized
by the opportunity jacket. We say, yeah, that's that's what's
gonna happen with Miles.
Speaker 26 (29:33):
I would equate it to this I've got. I'm having
a yard sale. You're having a yard right, Miles Murphy.
Is not the item I'm putting in the front yard yet?
Speaker 12 (29:41):
Yeah, oh is? Your yard sale doesn't have any clothing
that doesn't have writing on it.
Speaker 26 (29:44):
So my first wife and I had a yard sale
once fifteen years ex why she's your first wife, that's right?
Does she put me out there husband for sale? So
we had this yard sale. I'm not sure why I
hated it. You know why because at that time, all
these shows like Pawn Stars were becoming in vogue, and
like folks were walking up and we had like some
(30:06):
old jeans and I was selling them for like four
dollars and the guy wants to haggle, and it's like,
just get off my porch, take the pants.
Speaker 25 (30:13):
Take the just please.
Speaker 26 (30:15):
I don't like people pawing through my stuff. But anyway,
my point was, yes, I'm having a yard sale. I'm
getting rid of stuff because a lot of guys in
that defense I want.
Speaker 25 (30:22):
To get rid of.
Speaker 26 (30:23):
Yeah, Miles Murphy, I'm pulling back, you know what. I'm
not gonna get rid of him quite yet. He has
over the last month. It feels like the light bulb
has come on. I need to see it more. I
think the Bengals need to see it more. But relative
to what we were saying about him two months ago,
we have seen a better player.
Speaker 25 (30:37):
It feels like the light bulb has come on. That's
a good thing.
Speaker 15 (30:39):
How much of that is also, though, the product of
what else they have at that position. Trey Hendrickson and
his time as a Bengal could very well be over.
I don't think anyone listening or here could tell you
anything about Shamar Stewart in his future, Josephosis in a
contract season.
Speaker 24 (30:57):
Who else do you have?
Speaker 12 (30:58):
Right? Well, I haven't gotten over the thought of mo
Egger's game used jerseys and and what was it?
Speaker 24 (31:05):
Jeans?
Speaker 25 (31:05):
Jeans?
Speaker 24 (31:06):
What do you want? He wanted to give you? Like
two bucks?
Speaker 6 (31:07):
For him.
Speaker 12 (31:07):
Yeah, DNA on them. It gotta be worth something.
Speaker 26 (31:11):
I didn't want to have the yard sale. I didn't
want strangers coming to my house leafing through my crap.
My first wife, God lover does, she wanted to have
a yard sale.
Speaker 25 (31:20):
We did.
Speaker 26 (31:21):
I didn't realize there's a whole community of people that
like hunt down yard sales. So these weirdos show up
at my house on a Saturday morning at nine o'clock.
They're leafing through my stuff. Then they go in the
house for some reason and they're trying to pick out
stuff that's not for sale, like, oh, what do you
want for that?
Speaker 25 (31:36):
Like there's no price tag?
Speaker 24 (31:37):
What do you want for Miles Murphy?
Speaker 12 (31:38):
Yeah, it's okay, it's a yard sales. It's all over.
It was a long We made a.
Speaker 26 (31:43):
Grand total of like thirty seven dollars. Okay, a lot
of work that yard sale, all right.
Speaker 25 (31:47):
And she got to keep the money because we got divorced.
Speaker 12 (31:49):
Deep breath, Deep Breath, you.
Speaker 25 (31:51):

whole thing now is just keep focus on the future,
Just keep moving.
Speaker 48 (38:52):
Even when it looks bleak, to find this overlining and
keep working through it and find a way to win.
And those are some of your greatest moments when you
a lot of challenges and you come through it. And
so we embraced that. It's not something we.
Speaker 12 (39:05):
Like, get us down.
Speaker 48 (39:06):
It's frustrating when you don't win. It's frustrating when you're
in close games. Yeah, that's the amount of work we
put in and the expectations we have for ourself. That's
that's really hard when it doesn't go your way. But
it doesn't change the fact that you got to wake
up Monday morning and the Ravens are coming to town.
Speaker 12 (39:20):
That's true. It's not like you know you do you?
You know, you lose last week and all of a
sudden you wake up and it's like the horizontal Cardinals
are coming to town. You got to wait on now.
Speaker 26 (39:29):
I spent a lot of time over the last couple
of years listening to Zach Taylor try to talk about
how excited he is for the opportunity to coach a
team that's for five games under five hundred.
Speaker 25 (39:39):
Way too much of that.
Speaker 12 (39:40):
Who's hot in the NFL, Tony, If you had to
pick one thing, one person, one particular piece of minutia
in the NFL that you would say is Citzling hot,
what would it be?
Speaker 15 (39:50):
The top of the AFC South Jacksonville Jaguires and the
Houston Texans. Yes, Texans arguably the team right now defensively
that no one would want to play against. But the
Jacksonville Jaguar. I think the Texans have won five straight
Jaggs have held them off by winning four in a row.
It goes to show you get a guy in place
like Liam Cohen, and I think he is a genius
(40:11):
offensively all of a sudden, Trevor Lawrence playing better, Brian
Thomas Junior having an impact, etn is running the ball. Well,
that is a Jacksonville team. If you look at an
AFC right now, that's a little bit wide open because
of some unknowns. I like Jacksonville, but you look at
we have two teams in the NFL that have won
ten straight games, and both our home underdogs today. Yeah,
(40:34):
that's how unique and crazy it is. Denver's a home underdog.
New England's a home underdog. That speaks to the openness
of the NFL, especially in the AFC this year. But
I like what Jacksonville's doing and Houston right on their heels.
Speaker 26 (40:45):
Yeah, Houston five straight wins ended the Chiefs dynasty essentially
last week They've beaten Buffalo, beat Jacksonville to start the
five game winning streak. You know, there's sort of the
inverse of what we say about the Bengals, where elite
offense and just need a league average defense. Houston's defense
has been terrific. Certainly, these last five games, and really
since the to three start, they've been a league average offense,
(41:06):
and it's been it's been good enough. Tony was talking
about Jacksonville and and the Liam Cohen thing is a
reminder how much coaching really does matter in this league.
You know, we saw it with the Colts and Daniel
Jones before he suffered his injury. It didn't work out
for him in New York. He goes and he works
with Shane Steichen and it took off. And then in Jacksonville.
Nobody has ever denied Trevor Lawrence's talent, but it's been
(41:28):
such a beacon of instability, from Urban Meyer to Doug
Peterson was the coach for a couple of years. It
feels like they've just achieved stability and added somebody who
offensively knows what he's doing. Who would have thought that
the AFC North would be as bad as it's been
and the AFC South would be in the argument being
(41:48):
the best division in.
Speaker 12 (41:49):
Fordam Cohen has grown into the job. When they were here,
they by all right should have beaten the Bengals when
they were here. And he pulls off that bonehead go
for it on fourth down inside his own thirty. But
he's grown and that team has grown. It's the best
that Trevor Lawrence. Just look really since his first year
in the league.
Speaker 24 (42:05):
They're the best in the league.
Speaker 15 (42:06):
It's stopping the run, yeah, the opponent, and they're getting
something out of ETN in their running game.
Speaker 12 (42:11):
All of these similary thoughts on who's hot in the
NFL brought to you by plumbtight, fast response time, no
service fees. Where well, my goodness, that's plumb tight here
now I think is important. Lebar Jackson. This is a
guy who underperformed a couple of weeks ago, and he
was asked this week, well, why should we believe that
(42:31):
this game today against the Bengals should be any different
than that game a couple of weeks ago when you
guys got clocked on your own home field on Thanksgiving night.
Speaker 49 (42:42):
Here's what he had to say, turn over free number one,
you know, pretending the ball.
Speaker 24 (42:48):
Putting a lot of points on the board.
Speaker 49 (42:49):
Because we didn't do that either, we got unfortunately we
had to didn't happen. Two more, you know, on top
of the fourteen we have, but it didn't happen. So
I'm looking forward to score on more points this week.
Speaker 12 (43:02):
Well ball security, Tony. You mentioned just a few minutes ago,
you're not completely sure that he's healthy.
Speaker 15 (43:07):
I don't think so. He's been on the injury report
all season. He's missed games this year. This is the
first week he's not had an injury designation. But you
want to talk about like the future and having some
serious questions. Baltimore has structured their whole offensive system around
Lamar Jackson. They draft uniquely, they build their offense uniquely.
(43:28):
If that's not going to work, or he's limited or
not able to perform at that level after they paid
him a lot of money to do so, you want
to talk. We talk a lot in Cincinnati about what's next.
Speaker 24 (43:39):
How do you rebuild this? How do you get back
to that level?
Speaker 15 (43:41):
That's an even harder conversation in Baltimore because of how
they've uniquely built around Lamar Jackson's skill set, and everyone
just waits. Can Lamar be a Is he more of
a passer? Is he more of a passer? They added
Zay Flowers, awesome playmaker, Derrick Henry. The tight end room
is elite. They're still waiting in Baltimore for Lamar and
that's got to be uneasy for that organization.
Speaker 17 (44:02):
And.
Speaker 26 (44:04):
Not that dissimilar from how we look at the missed
opportunity to win the super Bowl in twenty twenty one
in the AAFC Championship Game. The next year, you think
of the Ravens and all the recent postseason failures last year,
Mark Andrews two point conversion, two years ago, hosting the
AFC Championship Game and not getting to the super Bowl,
and so there's this sense of, you know what, maybe
their best seasons in this mini era are behind him,
(44:26):
and all the missed opportunities, and now you're sitting there
at six and seven. When I watched Lamar and Tony
and I talked about this this week. When I watched Lamar,
I see somebody who's just indecisive, and maybe that's a
direct result of him physically not being where he wants
to be. But even in that Bengals game, and I
saw it last week as well against Pittsburgh, there are
times where it feels like you expect Lamar to run
(44:47):
and he's thinking about running, but he doesn't, and so
there's just a level of indecisiveness that just makes him
look off. And again, maybe it's because he's hurt. Maybe
he doesn't trust his playmakers.
Speaker 25 (44:58):
I don't know. Maybe he's not having fun.
Speaker 26 (45:00):
But there's a level of indecisiveness there that makes him
look totally off.
Speaker 15 (45:04):
Maybe he can't understand when Todd Mounkin's talking after we
heard from Todd Monkin earlier this show, Horse, Yeah, Horse, you.
Speaker 25 (45:13):
Coach some hot tea with honey or something for.
Speaker 12 (45:16):
Todd hot tea with RFK Junior. It's a lot of
thoughts on him. It's the Uh, it's the pregame show.
You're saying, what kind of pregame show? It's the Bengals
pregame show. Why are we doing this? Because the brain
The Bengals are at pay Corps Stadium today against the Ravens.
It's one o'clock kick We're here at the Holy Grail
every time the Bengals play at pay Corps and that

game is coming up one o'clock kickoff. But right now
we're going to take a break and when we come back,
we'll have more topics to talk about, not the least
at which the performer of the week.
Speaker 26 (45:49):
Can I just really say something here, I'm trying to
get to a break, I know, but there's something that
I have to mention, and it's it's a credit to
you because when I think the audience is known today
with the audio we have used, is it's it's tangible
evidence of the time investment work you put into this show.
Speaker 24 (46:05):
People just think we show up and talk curating this.
Speaker 26 (46:08):
Audio, identifying which audio to use, editing it. I'm sure,
and just you know, it's it's sort of the behind.
People just think you show up and I just get
to show up. Yeah, it's the hours you put in
during the week. You're kind of like a football coach,
you know, would just non stop grinding the tape, working hard.
And I want the audience to know, first of all,
(46:28):
is your colleague up here, how much I appreciate it.
And I want folks in the audience to understand this
isn't just something where you roll in five dropped off,
all right?
Speaker 25 (46:36):
Who's playing? No, no, no?
Speaker 26 (46:38):
You You've been up since, you know, three o'clock in
the morning, just grinding away at that audio.
Speaker 12 (46:42):
And I thank you shovel my driveway today. And it's
the whole thing.

That's why he couldn't drop He had to work on

the guy who shoveled your driveway for you.
Speaker 12 (46:51):
I shoveled it. Zero chance you want pictures of shrubbling
your drive I'll get some pictures. Yes, yeah, Well I'm
just trying to make a first down. Huh wait a minute,
I don't even know where I left off with this
break with the Holy Grail. It's a game here.
Speaker 25 (47:07):
You're welcome. Oh thanks, No, I didch.
Speaker 12 (47:09):
I thank you very much. I appreciate that guy, Thank you,

Brenda Lee rocking around the Christmas Tree.
Speaker 57 (52:18):
N you knew there?
Speaker 12 (52:19):
You know Jerry Remember Jerry carroll Ton known the Kentucky Speedway. Yeah,
so I guess his son dated Brenda Lee's daughter, Okay,
and they spent a lot of Christmases with Brenda Lee.
He told me that story when he was still owning
the Kentucky speed still the owner there. He was down
in Nashville. He was a builder or something developer down there,
and said she was a lovely lady.
Speaker 26 (52:41):
So did she ask Brenda Lee? Did he ask Brenda
Lee to sing this song?
Speaker 12 (52:46):
I'm sure yeah. As a matter of fact, I asked,
I said, did they sing Christmas songs? And so you said, yeah,
you bet. Yeah, that's cool. Yeah, it's great story. Can
I pick that up for you? What's that that Namy
just dropped? Oh uh, Miles Murphy, who we all think
could have a huge game today, massive possibly lining up
in the wildcat.
Speaker 25 (53:06):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 12 (53:07):
He was asked this week by a intrepid reporter about
that Baltimore offense. Here's what Miles had to say.
Speaker 58 (53:14):
Uh, they're explosive everywhere, explosive on the outside with the
receivers tight ends. Of course they got Lamar, so that's
an explosive quarterback both and the air in on the run.
So that's a lot to prepare for a solid o'lone.
So really just being able to be like, like I said,
billion p's and q's and no, like know the game
plan inside and out and be confident, be confident that
(53:35):
you know and be confident in it.
Speaker 12 (53:37):
There you go, know your piece and q's confident Golden's
game plan. Gup, that's what he said.
Speaker 25 (53:42):
He's thinking eleven guys on the field.
Speaker 12 (53:44):
I mean, hey, it's time to salute the performer of
the week and that's brought to you by Crown Royal.
What a day for Crown Royal, the official whiskey of
the Bengals, bringing the spirit to every game this yeraries
this season. Well, who is your performer of the week
last week?
Speaker 26 (53:59):
I'm not sure he remembers how well he performed last week,
but t Higgins was terrific. Six catches for ninety two yards,
and a couple of touchdowns. He was really, really good,
very good. Questions about why he continued to play in
the game because he's not playing this week in the
concussion protocol, and that's a scary situation. But I thought
T Higgins against the Baltimore Ravens, Mike is SICKI had
(54:20):
a really good game as well, but T Higgins was
spectacular on Sunday.
Speaker 25 (54:25):
He would be my performer of the week.
Speaker 15 (54:27):
I'm gonna probably make people upset because if you ask
a lot of people, it was his fault that they
lost the game. But I will say Joe Burrow to
do what he did in those conditions, wind snow coming
back from an injury, just his second game back from
a major injury, what he's able to do out there.
He made one mistake. You know, I don't put the
(54:49):
batted ball on Joe Burrow. I put the read on
the pick six. It was the right Reid, but when
he didn't handle the snap correctly, he should have either
fallen down or thrown it at the defender's feet. Outside
of that, I can't begin to express the difficulty it
is playing in those conditions, especially when you haven't played
a lot of football, So for me it's Burrow.
Speaker 12 (55:11):
Let's go back to Higgins for a second. Now, this
is two games in a row he's been concussed, and
quite frankly, it wasn't one time in Buffalo. It happened
once they took him in the tent, they said, he's okay.
I'm not a doctor. It wasn't on the field. I
couldn't diagnose the concussion if my life depended on it.
But this is serious stuff, and I'm just wondering, at
(55:31):
what point does this become an issue with a player
when you're concussed so quickly between games, and again these
are cumulative things. It gets worse with each concussion. Tony,
I'm concerned.
Speaker 15 (55:43):
Yeah, I'm worried as well. And it's also who T.
Higgins is like. He's not the guy that gets like
the hitch route and then protects himself. He's the downfield
threat and on a lot of those passes it's fifty
to fifty balls, So he goes up and he either
comes down with it or he comes down to see
on his head. And the amount of times you see
his head hitting off the turf, I agree. You watch
(56:05):
that game last week when he came back in. I
was shocked. Yeah, they came back from breaking You see
him lined up. I thought he was done for the game,
and then you saw I thought, either ramifications of the
concussion or just the mental block that it had because
he had two drops after he came back in the game,
and to his credit, he makes the great one handed
catch towards the end of the game. But in today's game,
(56:30):
where we have seen the ramifications of concussions, I mean,
you look no further than Cincinnati's own Luke Keakley, who
arguably walked away at the top of his career because
he understands the ramifications of concussions and what that can do.
I think it's a very slippery slope going forward, Like
I said, especially for a guy who's whose style of
(56:50):
play is unfortunately conducive to going up and trying to
make a play on those When when the player.
Speaker 25 (56:59):
Goes into the blue tent, we don't know what goes
on in there.
Speaker 26 (57:02):
What I would want to know is, from the perspective
of the independent neurologist, how did he pass the tests
and go back out there. Yeah, and I'm not accusing
anybody of anything nefarious or any wrongdoing, but it's it
is curious because during the game he looked not right.
(57:23):
He comes out of the game and he instantly goes
into the concussion protocol. So how during the game did
you examine him and go, we're good here. There may
be a legitimate reason, but how are you not curious
about that? And I get it, it's there are holes
in the system. Players going to do what he can
to get back on the field. We've seen t Higgins
do it with other injuries. But when he was in
that tent, what did he do to convince the person
(57:47):
who has to sign off on him going back on
the field that he's okay to play?
Speaker 15 (57:50):
And how bad did it have to be to self
report after the game?
Speaker 25 (57:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (57:56):
I mean, how many players are going to do anything
they can to play? You know, Tea Is it had
to be bad enough getting on that plane or getting
ready to travel that he had to self report those symptoms.
That's that's tough for a player to do who is
as competitive as t Higgins. That tells me for how
bad it was, it was probably double that for him
(58:16):
that toa hey, hey I'm not right. I need someone
to take a look at this.
Speaker 12 (58:19):
We'd be surprised if he's in concussion protocol next week
as well. I mean, especially.
Speaker 24 (58:24):
Depending what happens today.
Speaker 15 (58:25):
And I mean that's a conversation you're going with a
lot of players if you don't win today, what that
final three games look like when you're mathematically eliminated. I
think it's certainly a conversation as well.
Speaker 12 (58:36):
We'll see what happens with no Higgins today. It was
Mitchell Tinsley who drew the most targets in that game
against the Ravens on Thanksgiving night, and after that Gasiki
had had a couple, but it was Tinsley that Burrow
went to most often in that game, other than Jamar Chase.
In any event, we got to step away when we
come back. I want to get into this whole Joe Burrow.
(58:57):
I'm not happy. Yes, there are other teams they're calling
the Bengals about a trade. I think a lot of
it is just you know, wishful thinking on some people's
parts and just clickbait on others. But I want to
get into that because I think that is a topic
that watching these shows, see these pregame shows all over
it is. It is a major narrative inside the NFL.
Everybody's got an opinion, and I'm not sure who you
(59:19):
know who you should listen to other than Joe Burrows.
But any event, we're live at the Holy Grail. It's
the Rnel Carriers pregame show presented by your Cincinnati and

Matt Browning with the Ohio Department of Transportation as crews
continue to keep things passable on the roads in the city,
the surrounding counties, and throughout the Try State. Now that
the snow has ended and the bitter cold still keeping
things slick, those plows likely are not driving as fast
as the rest of traffic today.
Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
Dangerous mix of that slower traffic with the higher speed
traffic and if you're not paying attention, certainly that's a
recipe for a crash that could occur.
Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
And there is still snow on some roads, especially in
rural parts of the Try State, so drivers should still
plan ahead, take it slow, and keep an eye out
for problems. Taking a look now at the latest traffic

Ten on nine on this Chilli Sunday Live from the
Holy Grail of the Banks with Mowager and Tony Pike.
I'm ken Brew. Hey, now let's see how every piece
is important in this game brought to you by Donado's Pizza,
where every piece is important. Donado's the official pizza of
the Bengals. I know what I'm gonna go first on this. Okay,
Now you don't have t Higgins today. Give the Ravens
(01:09:54):
a little bit of their own medicine. Mike Yesicki Tanner Hudson,
throw that ball over the mid hit some tight ends,
turn the tables on these guys. That's my important piece.
You got any well?
Speaker 26 (01:10:06):
To me, and you alluded to it at the very
top of the show. When the Bengals beat the Ravens
on Thanksgiving Night, they were plus four and turnovers. Now,
if they're plus four and turnovers today, my bet is
they win the football game. They were minus two with
the two turnovers last week against Buffalo.
Speaker 25 (01:10:20):
I want to see if the.
Speaker 26 (01:10:22):
Bengals can get stops against Baltimore when Baltimore isn't stopping itself.
So if Baltimore plays a clean game turnover wise, can
the Bengals get stops. My guess is if Cincinnati wins today,
it's gonna be a game they win in the fourth quarter.
That tells me the defense got stops in the fourth quarter,
which they really haven't done since the Cleveland game.
Speaker 25 (01:10:41):
That's what I'm looking for today. That is my important piece.
Speaker 15 (01:10:44):
Yeah, I think to add on to that, whether it's
Demetrius Knight, Barrett Carter, or Gino Stone, whoever's gonna be
guarding the tight ends for the Baltimore Ravens, you have
to expect Baltimore understanding this is their season as well,
gonna lay it all on the line.
Speaker 12 (01:10:58):
So there you go.
Speaker 15 (01:10:59):
Expect, expect Lamar Jackson to carry it more. Expect him
to throw it more to those tight ends. They're going
to let everything kind of hang out. This defense has
not made plays when they needed to. The linebackers and
safeties have not made the plays when necessary. You're going
to be putting one on one situations today. You've got
(01:11:19):
to find ways to make those plays.
Speaker 12 (01:11:21):
There you go, three guys sitting up here with tight
ends as their position as the most important piece of
the puzzle. Let's talk about Joe Burrow, who had a
few interesting comments on Wednesday. In fact, this comment where
he proclaimed that he's simply not having fun right now.
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
You know, if I want to I want to keep
doing this, I have to have fun doing it.
Speaker 8 (01:11:48):
You know, I've been through a lot, and.
Speaker 25 (01:11:50):
If it's not fun, then what am I doing it for?
Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
So the mindset I'm trying to bring to the table.
Speaker 12 (01:11:59):
So there you go. He said that, and all of
a sudden, the clickbaiters were just going crazy, both in
the media room at pay Course Stadium and outside the
world of the NFL. Look, I'm looking at a guy
that's frustrated. It's been a long year. He comes back,
he plays well against the Ravens plays lights out except
(01:12:21):
for one throw against Buffalo, and he's a little down
because it's been that kind of year. And he's had
three injuries in his career that have been debilitating injuries
too that have ended his season. So Tony, I view
that nothing more as just venting. I don't think it
had any other meaning other than that. But my god,
did people go crazy?
Speaker 15 (01:12:41):
Well, it's crazy because Joe Burrow is one of the
most calculated individuals you'll ever meet. He doesn't just randomly
say stuff. He used the term if if I want
to continue doing this, then I have to have fun.
Speaker 24 (01:12:53):
That to me is what alarms.
Speaker 15 (01:12:55):
People, because it's one thing to be upset about losing,
to say if I want to keep doing this, meaning
it's been a thought of his at some point, and rightfully.
Speaker 24 (01:13:04):
So, he's gone through major injuries.
Speaker 15 (01:13:06):
Your football mortality comes into play at the very root
of this, from the moment he was drafted till right now.
The most important thing that Joe Burrow has been winning
Super Bowls, and right now, if you go back to
what he did last year, historic numbers for Joe Burrow,
they didn't get into the playoffs. If you go back
to this year, offense puts up great numbers, probably not
(01:13:29):
going to go to the playoffs. You know, there's a
lot when it comes to that. There's a truth of
this super Bowl window is closing and the super Bowl
is the most important thing to Joe Burrow. So yeah,
he's not having fun, he's not enjoying this. Do I
think he would ever walk away?
Speaker 62 (01:13:45):
No?
Speaker 15 (01:13:45):
Do I think that he would take a trade, especially
to the teams that they're throwing out there. You think
if he's unhappy here, he'd want to go to the
Jets or the Raider. No, But that to me is
Joe Burrow again, as calculated of an individual as you'll meet.
That's my idea that that's him saying, I'm not happy
when we're losing.
Speaker 24 (01:14:04):
I want to win super Bowls. We need to get
this figured out.
Speaker 12 (01:14:07):
But they're trying to equate it. Some people are to
what happened with Carson Palmer here all those years ago,
And there's no equation. Number one, this Trump's everything else.
If Mike Brown doesn't want to trade Joe Burt, he's
not going to trade.
Speaker 15 (01:14:21):
It's not the Carson thing. To me, it's the wording.
And I think Lance did it this week. If you
go back to Andrew Luck's retirement, it was I'm not
having fun playing football anymore and the injuries have caught
up to me. That to me is that when when
the fun is taken out of it because you're not
winning and you want to win Super Bowls, That to
me is kind of.
Speaker 12 (01:14:41):
Where this is his message. Though if indeed that's it,
then what was what?
Speaker 24 (01:14:46):
And we need to find ways to fix what we're
doing right?
Speaker 12 (01:14:49):
But why why would you raise that specter in that environment?
He's got Mike Brown's here, he's got Katie Brown.
Speaker 15 (01:14:56):
But it's the same way he did with T Higgins
last year. Calculated, Hey, T needs to be a part
of this.
Speaker 24 (01:15:01):
What happened? We all assumed that it was the end
of T Higgins.
Speaker 12 (01:15:05):
It was that was a tangible way that that team
could get better by retaining T Higgins. I just don't
read a whole lot into it other than he's upset.
What about you?
Speaker 26 (01:15:15):
Mo As Tony said, Joe Burrow is one of the
most intentional people you will ever find. You asked him
a question, He'll give you an honest answer. You may
not like the answer, but it's going to be an
honest answer. He knows everything he says is parsed, scrutinized, examined,
written about. Have some taken their analysis of the situation
(01:15:36):
to an extreme place, Yes, the Bengals aren't going to
trade Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow, I don't think at the
end of the season is going to walk away. But
to me, number one, it was a very honest assessment
of the state of his career six years in. This
isn't fun to me. The more newsworthy piece would have
been if Joe was like, yeah, boy, this is great.
(01:15:59):
The he wasn't gonna do that, so of course he's
not having fun. This is a guy whose career is
judged by how much does he win. Last year he
was robbed of an MVP because his team's stunk. He
couldn't play in the playoffs because his team's stunk. He
is watching some of his peers win Super Bowls, win MVPs,
at least get a chance to play in the postseason.
You mean to tell me that with thirty closing in
(01:16:21):
quickly in a year, he's not going huh, wonder if
the grass would be greener elsewhere? So like to me,
the message was keep doing it, keep drafting bad classes
and not making our defense any better. Keep putting me
on the surgeon's table because you can't protect me. Keep losing,
Keep wasting my best efforts, Keep wasting games where I
go out there and ball out and hang thirty five
(01:16:42):
on a team and we lose. Keep wasting seasons that
I put up MVP numbers and we don't get a
chance to make the playoffs. And by the way, Joe's
contract is up at the end of the decade, that
feels forever a way. Do we think that the Bengals
aren't gonna have some interest in extending that sometime soon? Right,
So you can do whatever you want with the message.
At the end of the day, here is a great
(01:17:03):
player who is this franchise, is Meal Ticket, who has
gotten everybody paid down there, who has gotten the head
coach paid, who has helped the Bengals rebrand. Here is
the meal Ticket going, dude, this isn't good enough. What
he's going to do? If this continues to not be
good enough, none of us are qualified to say, but
I would say this if in a year it's the
same demeanor, the same message, the same discussion.
Speaker 25 (01:17:27):
Okay, then don't be.
Speaker 26 (01:17:28):
Shocked if the conversation drives towards something like Andrew Luck
or something like Carson Palmer, or something else that we
can't even foresee happening. The message was very clear for me,
this cannot continue. I'm playing my ass off. I rushed,
I worked as hard as I could. The part of
this that bothers me is I've seen people otherwise smart
(01:17:49):
people question Joe Burrow's commitment to the sport. Did they
not pay attention over the last two months? Did they
not pay attention when this guy rushed his ass back
to come play for a team that stinks? Who two
weeks ago made it known I want to play. I
want to play on Thanksgiving. I love playing. I want
to be there. I want to play in these games.
I get paid a lot of money. You're questioning this
(01:18:10):
guy's commitment. Of all the people with that franchise, the
guy who's commitment you're gonna question is Joe Burrows.
Speaker 25 (01:18:16):
Out of your mind.
Speaker 15 (01:18:17):
So to me, the message is scroll around, keep doing this,
keep drafting Jermaine Burton's, keep drafting guys who can't play,
keep putting bad defenses on the field, keep it up,
and then see where it goes.
Speaker 12 (01:18:27):
We have to take a break here so Mo can
take his a store with tassing for his Uh. He's
also well, nobody, who are you mad at?
Speaker 24 (01:18:34):
No?
Speaker 15 (01:18:35):
Because yeah, that was that was scouting department.
Speaker 12 (01:18:39):
No, no, no. The conversation was people in the national
media is saying things like he's going to be traded,
they're going to call and all that. So, okay, so
you're venting on on the front office and their inability
to put the right players around him so he can
be who he is, Okay, Shamar Stewart, all right, so
(01:19:00):
but okay, so the issue with you is what's going
on with that team and the way it's constructed, whether
by ineptness or by just not having enough people or
whatever it may be. And you're wasting years with your
franchise quarterback. But it's important to point out that Burrow
hasn't gone to them to our knowledge and said, hey,
I want out. I don't know, I don't think we've
(01:19:21):
heard that.
Speaker 26 (01:19:21):
Oh again, people have taken Yeah, people have reacted to
what Joe said and taking it to places I don't
think it should go. At the same time, do you
want him to continue this demeanor because we saw it
last year, like even before the t Higgins thing, he
was angry. He was the body language what he was.
(01:19:42):
This was a guy who was pissed, and you can't
a competitor. The longer this continues, the more you are
going to wonder, like, what's the end game for Joe
Burrow in Cincinnati. Maybe it's something as simple as I
don't do a contract extension when the team asked me
to sign one, and I hit free agency because I'm
looking for a ring at the age of thirty five
years old. Nobody is I don't think anybody who's rational
(01:20:04):
is saying that the guy is gonna pull a Carson
Palmer this offseason or retire like Andrew Luck. At the
same time, if you were him, wouldn't you be wondering, God,
you know, what could have he better?
Speaker 25 (01:20:14):
Elsewhere? He would nature dictates? Of course the answer is yes.
Speaker 15 (01:20:16):
But if you're the organization, regardless of that, do you
want to roll the dice on what he means?
Speaker 6 (01:20:21):
Right?
Speaker 24 (01:20:21):
You want to get it taken care of?
Speaker 15 (01:20:23):
And if I'm Joe Burrow, I'm probably upset this week
too because I just again rush back played my tail
off to four touchdowns And what's been a lot of
the narrative. Joe Burrow lost that game, Yeah, I'd be
pissed too, Like, wait a second, I did so for me,
whether he intentionally did or not. As Mo said, I
think he's as calculated as they come. I think they're
(01:20:44):
further away from a super Bowl now than they've ever
been With Joe Burrow.
Speaker 24 (01:20:48):
That's probably frustrating to him.
Speaker 15 (01:20:50):
So I'm taking that if I'm the organization as Okay,
I hear him, I'm not gonna.
Speaker 24 (01:20:54):
Let this progress. We're gonna nip this in the button
figure it out.
Speaker 26 (01:20:57):
Last week encapsulated everything that is wrong about this franchise
because Joe Burrow was great and then he makes a
mistake and it doomed their chances. They're based on Joe
Burrow being perfect. You don't think that's a heavy burden.
Speaker 12 (01:21:09):
We had this conversation. I think the first week. It's
one thing to be able to score thirty five thirty
eight a game. It's another thing to have to score
thirty five and thirty.
Speaker 26 (01:21:18):
He has to be perfect or they don't win. You
don't think that's burden some for a quarterback.
Speaker 15 (01:21:22):
Sure of course it is, And I think again, I
think the message was this isn't acceptable.
Speaker 26 (01:21:28):
I'm not having fun. Why would I be having fun?
If things don't change and I continue to have fun,
maybe I'm not going to do this.
Speaker 12 (01:21:35):
It is amusing, though, to see the reaction national sure, yes,
and quite frankly from some people here locally, it's it's
kind of amusing.
Speaker 25 (01:21:43):
Oh, come on, name them who they got you?
Speaker 55 (01:21:46):
Me?
Speaker 12 (01:21:46):
Yeah? I thought that whole thing was amusing because your
face was turning red and I got blood pressure medication
in my pants right now my pocket. WHOA I was
going to take out it.
Speaker 25 (01:21:58):
I just want to talk about. I don't want to know.
Speaker 26 (01:22:01):
It's in your chance who locally has been irresponsible?
Speaker 15 (01:22:06):
Where you just said local one, I'll say it Bill Cunningham,
you see his tweet. No, the voice of the common
man is essentially calling Joe Burrow.
Speaker 12 (01:22:14):
Do you watch?
Speaker 25 (01:22:15):
Do you?
Speaker 12 (01:22:15):
Do you follow? Not follow? But do you get things
on your timeline from people who apparently are Bengal fans
that are reacting this way.
Speaker 26 (01:22:23):
I don't follow idiots, so not as many as you,
but I have certainly seen people say some ridiculous things
about Joe Burrow.
Speaker 12 (01:22:31):
I don't follow idiots.
Speaker 26 (01:22:32):
I don't as a general rule on social media, I don't.
Speaker 12 (01:22:38):
Follow you block people.
Speaker 25 (01:22:39):
I've only blocked maybe six to eight people.
Speaker 12 (01:22:42):
But people will show up on your timeline.
Speaker 25 (01:22:45):
For you tab yeah. I don't like that.
Speaker 35 (01:22:47):
No, no, no.
Speaker 12 (01:22:47):
Even when you say something, somebody will come into your
comment that yeah. So, in essence, idiots are are part
of what you do.
Speaker 26 (01:22:55):
I certainly am aware of the fact that people have
said bizarre, irresponsible, off base, or unfair things about Joe
Burrow in this situation. I am aware of that. I
just addressed. I've seen people question Joe Burrow's commitment to
the game. I've seen folks, including one of our colleagues,
basically mention the fact that because Joe Burrow is highly paid,
he should shut the hell up, Which is interesting to
(01:23:17):
me because one of the common complaints about athletes is
they don't care about winning they make so much money.
Here you have a guy who is making a lot
of money, who's making it abundantly clear he cares about winning,
and some will tell him to shut up because he
makes a lot of money.
Speaker 12 (01:23:30):
Well, I don't think anybody would tell him to shut
up because he just made news this week when he
opened his mouth.
Speaker 15 (01:23:35):
Oh I love it. I got talk show segments out
of it. We just got a segment out of it. Yeah,
good segment.
Speaker 12 (01:23:41):
Okay, you're right now.
Speaker 25 (01:23:42):
I'm gonna have this cheese steak.
Speaker 12 (01:23:43):
It's gonna be great. It's probably cold. We got to
take a break.
Speaker 25 (01:23:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:23:47):

we can pick any one of them. I thought the
touchdown passed because Siki was great. I thought it was
well designed play. They ran it expertly, and of course
(01:29:17):
Higgins had a couple of catches. What would it be
for you.
Speaker 26 (01:29:19):
Boll Christian benefits pick six? Oh yeah, fortunately, because it's
swung the game. Bengals were driving, you know.
Speaker 12 (01:29:28):
Yeah, they were in business.
Speaker 26 (01:29:29):
Buffalo scores, Bengals were up ten Buffalo scores and four plays,
and you know, Tony said to me on Monday, at
that point, you know you're gonna give up a touchdown,
just make him work for it instead a minute and
eleven Bengals get the ball back, immediately get into Buffalo territory,
and you're thinking they're going to score again and maybe
salt this game away. And then the pick six. Obviously
a lot of other stuff happened. You could say, the
fourth and third fourth and goal from the three touchdown
(01:29:50):
Buffalo scored with their third string tight end with Barrett
Carter just watching him. But the benefit play At that
moment you went, Okay, they're.
Speaker 25 (01:29:59):
Not going to today.
Speaker 15 (01:30:00):
I would you could do either Higgins catch Ken as
you said that Kasiki one was great for me because
Burrow's footwork in the pocket was phenomenal. But how about
the job to get out of the pocket and find
Chase Brown and the job of a running back to
make that catch going to the ground.
Speaker 24 (01:30:15):
That to me was it. But the main.
Speaker 15 (01:30:17):
Delivery of the game was the early Christmas delivery that
Al Golden delivered to the Buffalo Bills by not putting
a spy on Josh Allen on third and fifteen with
the ballgame on the line. You want to talk about
a gift wrap delivery, Here you go. We're not going
to do anything to spy one of the most athletic
quarterbacks that our game has right now, and we'll allow

him to run for seventeen yards and end the game.
Speaker 12 (01:30:40):
How did you pronounce Al's last name?
Speaker 24 (01:30:42):
Goling?
Speaker 25 (01:30:43):
No D.
Speaker 24 (01:30:43):
There is no D in the last name.
Speaker 12 (01:30:45):
I remember the joke, but I thought he had gotten
the D back.
Speaker 15 (01:30:48):
That's surprised because most said Golden earlier and I was like,
YOA wait.
Speaker 26 (01:30:51):
To see gave him the D after the Baltimore game.
We have taken the D away. It's it's going to
be a while before al could could get it back.

he didn't ask either of us of us, so you're.
Speaker 12 (01:37:30):
Saying, in one way, is what you're saying, Let's bring
in a guy. Maybe we'll ask Lee Sterling what his
favorite Christmas song in his favorite Christmas movie. He's with
Paramount Sports dot Com and Lee Sterling has got five
games today. He knows you're gonna come home as winners. Lee,
how are you on this glorious game day?
Speaker 25 (01:37:51):
I'm great.
Speaker 6 (01:37:51):
I'm great, just finished up playing some basketball for a
couple hours, still in one piece, So uh, we'll give
it a go.
Speaker 12 (01:37:59):
You're you're obviously in Cincinnati where it is four degrees
right now, so I'm I'm guessing that it's a little
bit warmer in Miami. It's only seventy four's there? You go. Well,
by the way, before we get to these games, what
is your favorite Christmas movie? And what is your favorite
Christmas song?
Speaker 6 (01:38:16):
So I would say my favorite Christmas song is Here
Comes Santa Claus and Elvis Presley.
Speaker 12 (01:38:23):
Wow classic. I like that.
Speaker 6 (01:38:25):
Yeah, And I would say the movie is a little
bit tougher, but I'm gonna go with I got a
couple of them here. It's a wonderful life.
Speaker 12 (01:38:41):
Oh, Jimmy Stewart Classic. Oh, I love that. I love it. Well,
we got a bunch of games here today, Lee, and
it's going to be a wonderful life for five of
these people that are playing that we're talking about. Let's
start it with the NFC East. You got the Bills
and Patriots. This is New England. I mean they're hot.
They can Clinton AFC East, Clinton AFC playoff with a win.
(01:39:03):
Buffalo not great against the run. And you know who
the Patriots have, Ramonde Stephenson and Trevian Henderson. The Patriots
are getting a point at home today. How do you
see this when playing out?
Speaker 6 (01:39:16):
So this is Buffalo's last name Let's be honest. If
they lose this game to three back for three to go,
it's pretty much all over and they would lose his
tiebreaker because they would have lost both to New England.
But here's some things and reasons why I just can't
go on the New England side here. Look at their
wins going back like ten weeks, New Orleans, the Titans, Cleveland, Atlanta,
(01:39:39):
the Jets, the Giant Cincy without Joe Burrow, and their
only semi respectable win we're not even a winning record,
was Tampa Bally, who's now seven and seven. So you know,
give them credit. They've done an incredible job. They're coming
off of a bye. You would think game planning would
help them, but team's coming off of a bye. NFL
(01:40:00):
forty in the last decade. Here, I just think too
much Josh Allen, maybe a little cook cooking up some
running plays and catching the ball of the backfield. Here,
I like Buffalo, it's gonna be a high scoring game.
To thirty five to thirty one.
Speaker 15 (01:40:17):
Lee the Los Angeles Chargers, still trying to catch the
Denver Broncos.
Speaker 24 (01:40:22):
They would have to win to have any chance to
do that.
Speaker 15 (01:40:24):
They're at Kansas City and the Chiefs are literally fighting
for the slim playoff lives that they still have. Kansas
City has been awful in one score games, yet they
are favored by a pretty healthy number in this one.
What do you think happens with Kansas City hosting the Chargers.
Speaker 6 (01:40:43):
I mean, look at last year, Kansas City is winning
every close game and this year one in six and
one touchdown games or less. So here's the situation for
the Chargers. They got lucky last week, Let's be honest.
Kalin five turnovers, four interceptions, one fumble. In fact, had
(01:41:03):
one play where he had a fumble in an interception,
almost unheard of. I think the Chargers still in one
hundred percent of quarterback Justin Herbert. He was sacked seven times,
hit eleven more. When he did light up the Chiefs
defense week one, you know, everything went right now his
offensive line, it's a passwork affair here. So I think
(01:41:25):
the Chiefs can't afford any more losses. They're begging you,
begging you to take the five and a half six
points here for Chargers. Foom fall for the trap. Can
City finally wins in covers twenty eight to twenty.
Speaker 25 (01:41:41):
There you go Paramount sports dot com.
Speaker 26 (01:41:43):
All right, we have New England eleven and two, a
slight home dog. Same for Denver hosting Green Baylee.
Speaker 25 (01:41:50):
What do we got.
Speaker 6 (01:41:52):
Yeah, So it's almost unheard of that you see teams
that have so many wins this late in the season
as an underdog, and literally like four or five times
in the last twenty five years. But here's the case.
I don't know if I can trust Denver. Denver's a
team normally, you know, they just don't have enough offense.
Speaker 12 (01:42:11):
But on the other.
Speaker 6 (01:42:12):
Side, Green Day has more negatives against them. I mean,
they're coming off playing three division opponents.
Speaker 71 (01:42:19):
They next week have to play in.
Speaker 6 (01:42:21):
Chicago, They've got to travel out west. Play it over
five thousand feet altitude is tough. They're three and six
as a road favorite since last season. You go back
another year, they're three and eight, go back one more
for the four and ten, and go back a fourth year.
They are six and thirteen against the spread as a
(01:42:42):
road favorite. Here, two break play callers of late, both
head coaches doing a great job. I just think defense
here will be the difference here, and maybe you know,
they come up with that one break. Denver's just finding
ways to win. I'll take the home underdog year Denver
twenty four to twenty Denver two. Don't worry about the
points leeve We got the eight and five Lions at
(01:43:03):
the ten to three Rams. Detroit right now is on
the outside looking in for a playoff spot. They're currently eight,
the Rams are giving six in this game. Is it
desperation time for the Lions. It almost seems like they
have to win this game. Yeah, they have to win it.
But let's look at the last couple of games. You know,
(01:43:24):
they played in that wild card January twenty twenty four
and the Lions eked out at twenty four twenty three wins.
Then first game the next season went overtime twenty to twenty.
Denver wins the toss. They drive seventy yards in eight plays,
seven runs and score the touchdown. At the time, the
(01:43:45):
rules weren't changed. Rams didn't get a chance to try
to tie it or continue the game, and Detroit wins
that game. They were that close both games here. I
also like the fact that Detroit has a few extra
days to prepare off of Thursday win. I don't think
either defense can stop this group of receivers here, and
both quarterbacks that were on the other team, so they
know the schemes really well.
Speaker 12 (01:44:07):
I think you take the points here.
Speaker 6 (01:44:08):
Because both games have been so close. Here, I think
Detroit Pultashaker run team favorite Detroit straight up. Thirty eight
thirty five.
Speaker 12 (01:44:17):
Wow, thirty eight thirty five Lions roar in Los Angeles.
All right, we're we're approaching the middle of Decemberly a
lot of games left between now and the end of
the year. December is a big month for Paramount Sports.
What do you got going on?
Speaker 6 (01:44:34):
Yep, what we call It's called Leed's NFL Sunday Golden Ticket.
You can get five games today and five each of
the last three Sundays after this, four weeks, five games
every week and we're rolling here thirty eight, twenty one
and one wow the last twelve weeks in the NFL.

of the regular season. Just t one hundred and ninety
seven dollars. Lee's NFL Sunday Golden Ticket, just one place.
Paramount sports dot.
Speaker 12 (01:45:06):
Com, Paramount Sports dot com all right, Lee, it's cold
here in Cincinnati. Kickoff, they say, probably somewhere around seven
or eight above. You got the Ravens six and seven, desperate,
and he got the Bengals at four to nine. They
you know what happened on Thanksgiving Night? The Ravens couldn't
hang on to the ball. What do you what do you?
How do you see this playing out with the Ravens
(01:45:27):
team that really needs to win at a Bengals team
that is just trying to win anything at this point?
Speaker 72 (01:45:33):
Yep?
Speaker 6 (01:45:34):
I mean the Ravens, you know, looking their.
Speaker 71 (01:45:36):
AFC North wounds here falling.
Speaker 12 (01:45:39):
With home to the Steelers last week.
Speaker 6 (01:45:40):
Baltimore, I've gained Pittsburg one hundred yards and had nine
more first downs, but when two for six in the
red zone and lost the turnover battle. Cincinnati also, as
we know, let one slip away.
Speaker 12 (01:45:52):
They blew that double digit lead in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 6 (01:45:54):
Key Higgins out here, Trey Frederickson gone, I mean this
is gonna be tough here. I've been wrong a lot on.
Speaker 71 (01:46:02):
Baltimore's games this year.
Speaker 6 (01:46:03):
But it's hard to newer how bad Cincinnati's defense has been.
Buffalo generated four hundred and sixteen total yards on six
point nine yards per play against Cincinnati last week here
and as long as the Ravens don't lose four fumbles again,
which apparently is an issue for them at the moment.
I think Baltimore is probably the right side here. I
(01:46:25):
think Baltimore wins this game thirty one to twenty five.
Speaker 12 (01:46:27):
Thirty one five Ravens. Wiley, look at enjoy the warrant
for we are. We'll just we'll just carry on here
up north. We'll talk to.

Welcome back seven hundred WLWESPN fifteen thirty. It is the
RNL Carriers pregame show and we are live at the
Holy Grail on the banks. So what will it take
to win today? Here? Now Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown Junior.
Speaker 57 (01:53:40):
Yeah, I just think it came down to the physicality,
you know, us playing hard in the trenches, being extremely
efficient in the run game. I think those are going
to be probably two of the most important things to
help us get a one.
Speaker 12 (01:53:53):
As In addition to that, let's check out today's players spotlight,
brought to you by Furniture Fair. Get the guaranteed price
or it's free at Furniture Fair. Would it be too
obvious to say player spotlights would be the two Bengal
linebackers given how well the Ravens play with their tight
ends or is there something more in depth in that,
(01:54:16):
Tony Well.
Speaker 15 (01:54:17):
I think that's just that that would be the easy answer,
And here on this show we strive for the difficulty.
Speaker 24 (01:54:22):
I don't want to just take the easy route.
Speaker 15 (01:54:23):
So as easy and obvious as that is, the last
game against the Ravens, Chase Brown carried it fifteen times
for over five yards of carry. He was also targeted
seven times without T Higgins and he caught all seven passes.
So if I'm looking at an offense without T Higgins again,
you know Baltimore's focus, and rightfully so, because he's torched
(01:54:44):
them in his career, is gonna be Jamar Chase, who,
by the way, didn't have a touchdown catch in November.
Speaker 24 (01:54:48):
Yeah, just crazy to think about.
Speaker 15 (01:54:50):
I'm looking at Chase Brown in a day like this,
where the weather is as cold as it is, it's
gonna be a little harder to a grip of football.
Passing game probably won't be as prevalent. They can run
in between the tackles. Skip Chase Brown twenty two to
twenty five carries and let him have a big day.
Speaker 26 (01:55:07):
My spotlight is on a player that we could relate to,
Barrett Carter or Demetrius Knight or TJ. Slayton or anybody
else in charge of tackling a running back. If I'm
Todd Munkin and his busted voice, I'm going look. First
go round against Cincinnati, I gave it to Derek Henry
five times in the first half. We're not making that
mistake again. Had ten carries in the game for sixty yards.
(01:55:28):
I think you saw with the way they played against
Pittsburgh last week. They got back to Derrick Henry twenty
five carries. By the way, against Cincinnati, he ran it
for six a pops. So when he got the ball
he was pretty effective. He did have a fumble. I
think it's all about stopping Derrick Henry today. Tony mentioned
this before in this weather. That's not a guy you
want to hit. We've seen Bengals players before this season,
(01:55:50):
you know, with Darnell Washington wanted nothing to do with
tackling him.
Speaker 24 (01:55:53):
Business decisions.
Speaker 26 (01:55:54):
Are they going to be tackling Derrick Henry willingly as
this game unfolds?
Speaker 12 (01:56:00):
You know, Tony just called me easy and obvious.
Speaker 25 (01:56:02):
Yeah, he did.
Speaker 12 (01:56:04):
The last person to call me easy and obvious never
had a chance to become missus brew.
Speaker 15 (01:56:09):
Wow, easy like Sunday morning. What do you think it's
because you're giving out medicine from your paint?
Speaker 25 (01:56:15):
How do you think?
Speaker 24 (01:56:17):
Wow?
Speaker 26 (01:56:19):
How do you think her life subsequently unfolded too? Finding
out that she couldn't?
Speaker 78 (01:56:24):
I know?
Speaker 25 (01:56:24):
You do?
Speaker 12 (01:56:25):
You know what happened to a life of destitution?
Speaker 6 (01:56:28):
Really?
Speaker 12 (01:56:29):
Really? Yeah? Well that's all right, get it?
Speaker 50 (01:56:31):
You know?
Speaker 25 (01:56:32):
Yeah? You make decisions and you have to live with them.
Speaker 12 (01:56:34):
That's exactly right. But I am not easy and obvious.
Speaker 26 (01:56:38):
I wouldn't say you are. I think you're actually deeply complex.
I am, and every time I do a show with you,
I learn more about you when you peel back a
layer and I'm more and more fascinating.
Speaker 12 (01:56:47):
Really, Yeah, what layer did you peel back today.
Speaker 25 (01:56:50):

Speaker 15 (01:57:11):
Was on this date Kenon nineteen thirty eight, Yeah, the
National League adopted a resolution that allowed the Reds to play.
Speaker 26 (01:57:18):
Their season opener the following year, one day before everybody else.
Speaker 12 (01:57:22):
How's that going?
Speaker 26 (01:57:23):
This to celebrate the seventieth anniversary of baseball's first professional
club and the one hundredth anniversary of baseball wow as
a sport.
Speaker 25 (01:57:31):
And that happened in nineteen thirty eight on this date.
Speaker 12 (01:57:34):
Was on this date.
Speaker 26 (01:57:34):
In nineteen eighty, Jim Breach made the first of what
would go on to be I believe six walk off
overtime field goals as the Bengals beat the Bears at
Soldier Field by a score of seventeen to fourteen.
Speaker 12 (01:57:47):
Pete Johnson one hundred and fifty four of that game.
Speaker 26 (01:57:49):
It was on this date in nineteen eighty six Bengals
had a devastating blow delivered to their playoff hopes as
Kevin Max scored a couple of touchdowns, Websters Slaughter scored
a couple of touchdowns, and the Browns throttled the Bengals
at Riverfront Stadium thirty four to three. Cincinnati would finish
ten and six and outside of the postseason looking in
(01:58:10):
despite having the league's number one ranked offense. It was
on this date ken in nineteen ninety seven Boomer Asias
and threw a.
Speaker 12 (01:58:17):
Couple of touchdowns second tenure with the team.
Speaker 25 (01:58:19):
Troy Aigman had a couple of picks.
Speaker 26 (01:58:21):
Bengals beat the Cowboys in Cincinnati by a score of
thirty one to twenty four.
Speaker 25 (01:58:25):
Love it and it was on this date.
Speaker 26 (01:58:27):
In two thousand and three, the late great Rudy Johnson
had twenty one carries for one hundred and seventy four
yards and a couple of touchdowns. Bengals clinched a five
hundred season for the first time in thirteen years with
a forty one to thirty eight home victory over the
San Francisco forty nine ers.
Speaker 12 (01:58:43):
Wow, may I and Bellish.
Speaker 25 (01:58:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:58:46):
It was on this date in nineteen ninety seven that
Mike Gartner scored his seven hundredth goal. He was playing
for the Phoenix Coyote. Of course, of course he began
his Hall of Fame career right here in Cincinnati with
the Stinger. Yeah, in seventy eight, seventy nine, twenty seven
goals and twenty seven assists. And the only other Cincinnati
(01:59:07):
Stinger in the Pro Hockey Hall of Fame is Mark Messi.
Mars Makett. Very good, Mark Messia.
Speaker 26 (01:59:14):
It was also a Naori Melrose should be in the
Hockey Hall of Fame, and he was a Stinger.
Speaker 12 (01:59:17):
In nineteen sixty nine in Phoenix, the Cincinnati Royals beat
the Phoenix Suns one thirty seven, one thirty in double overtime.
Oscar thirty seven points, tennis sists, Connie Dierking thirty four points,
eighteen rebounds. I went on to work with Connie's daughter,
(01:59:39):
Kemmy Keimmy Yeah. Yeah, so that's good. We had Bengals,
we had Royals markers.
Speaker 26 (01:59:45):
While we're looking back, can we talk about today's ruler
of the Jungle. No please, Yes, my second favorite Bengal
of all time. Who's your first boomer?
Speaker 12 (01:59:54):
Okay?
Speaker 25 (01:59:54):
Number two?
Speaker 12 (01:59:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 25 (01:59:56):
Number eight?
Speaker 15 (01:59:57):
Oh, Jeff Blake, Today's ruler of the john Let's go

You will find no bigger Jeff Blake fan than me.
Speaker 12 (02:00:04):

Speaker 25 (02:00:05):
I love Jeff Blake.
Speaker 12 (02:00:06):
Man is meaner than a rattlesnake. You called a lot
of those games, a lot of Blake and Pickens. Yeah,
remember Judge games. Megan made that sign to.
Speaker 15 (02:00:13):
Do Jagan Blake the prettiest deep ball I've ever seen. Oh,
he threw a great ball, great deep ball. During those years,
there wasn't much to be excited about. As you well know,
watching Jeff Blake was fun.
Speaker 12 (02:00:26):
Carl Pickens told me that he threw such a great ball.
Sometimes he lost it and he had a look at
the jumbo tron as he was running down the field
to see where the ball was so he could bring
it in. Yeah. I believed him. I believed him.
Speaker 26 (02:00:39):
One of my favorite Bengals fan memories when I was
a freshman at the University of Dayton. On a whim,
we decided to go watch the Bengals play the Steelers
at three River Stadium on a Thursday night. I was
there and Jeff Blake torched steel That was a Steelers
team that played in the Super Bowl twenty seven and
nine in prime time. Jeff Blake was he had his
(02:01:00):
limitations as a quarterback nineteen ninety two. That was nineteen
ninety five. He took over in ninety four. That's right,
game against the Dallas Cowboys, the defending NFL champions, and
what the superwl of the previous two years. Jeff Blake
played well, they lost the game, then they won the
next two. But for I've heard people say, and I
agree with this, Jeff Blake is responsible for the building
(02:01:22):
of that stadium. I don't doubt that, because when the
tax initiative went into place, what everybody was excited about was,
well we got this Jeff Blake guy, and so maybe
things are starting to turn. It really didn't work out
long term, but I do have a very soft spot in.
Speaker 25 (02:01:34):
My heart for Jeff Blake.

Loveland and Lebanon. The snow is gone, but now it's
bitter cold with a decent amount of sunshine.
Speaker 2 (02:02:42):
Because we're seeing those temperatures in the single digits, it's
certainly going to make it more challenging for the crews
to get the roads open again to bear pavement where
we'd like it to be.

Speaker 48 (02:10:57):
They're all challenging. Every situation, every season is unique. It's
got his own challenges, he's got his own ups and downs.
So it's I just take a week to week. You know,
and now we're focused on Baltimore and trying to find
a win and really want to win this game to
get ourselves a little bit of momentum before the next one.
But every season is a challenge in so own ways.
(02:11:18):
Even when your records flipped from what it is now there.
Speaker 12 (02:11:22):
So they're four and nine, everybody knows what the situation is.
We've talked about it on nauseum, I think this week
on both of these radio stations, and certainly this morning,
we've addressed it. Motivation, Tony is a big thing. People
will say that aren't in professional sports. Well, these guys
are getting paid, it should be motivation enough. But it
would just seem psychologically regardless of the job you have,
(02:11:46):
regardless of the amount of money you make, if you
don't have that prize in front of you, it's difficult
to get motivated. So how difficult is it.
Speaker 15 (02:11:53):
It's very difficult. That's why you have to cling to
the help of a small playoff chance. It's one of
the things I can actually talk about from my brief
NFL stand. I was on the worst team in the NFL,
and I can tell you the motivation was lacking in
the locker room. And it makes the work week harder.
It makes the game planning that much more difficult, because
(02:12:14):
it is it's one foot in, one foot out. As
long as there's hope, the motivation is there. The worry
is once that hope is efficiently extinguished, what happens then.
So I do think there is motivation now, but a
lot of that can become coach speak. If you're not
playing for anything, your competitor, you're playing at this level,
you're a competitor. You take away a prize from any competitor.
Speaker 25 (02:12:35):
It's not as much we were talking about this off air.
Speaker 26 (02:12:38):
I think most of us believe that, with the way
things stand right now, Zach Taylor will be the coach
next season. Perhaps though the way that conversation could change
is if over the last three or four games and look,
they mathematically do have a chance today. But let's see
we do see guys mail it in, you know, because
I think for the most part, the one thing you've
(02:12:59):
always been able to say about Zach's teams, whether they've
been good not so good, For the most part, effort's
never been an issue.
Speaker 12 (02:13:05):
Now.
Speaker 26 (02:13:05):
I think most of us think for some of the guys,
it was in that second Pittsburgh game this year. But
for the most part, the team hasn't splintered. The team
hasn't fractured. And even when they were miserably bad his
first season, dudes were still playing hard at the end
of the year.
Speaker 25 (02:13:19):
His second year, they were bad, Burrow got hurt.
Speaker 26 (02:13:22):
They won a couple of games that didn't matter at
the end of the season with Ryan Finley and Brandon
Allen playing quarterback. So I guess what I would want
to know is do we see similar type of effort
that we've seen in the past under Zach Taylor or
do we see guys mail it in? And what does
that say about the head coach and this football team. Again,
I fully believe Zach's gonna be the coach next season.
(02:13:44):
I don't think there's that much that's gonna happen that's
going to change that. But the one thing that could
change that would be if you watch this team and
it's quit, that'll be interesting to pay attention to.
Speaker 12 (02:13:54):
I haven't seen that, no, And I mean there was
ample opportunity to see if perhaps when Burrow was out,
and you know, and that's a testament to the head coach,
it really is. Yeah, But I mean, it is difficult
when you get to this particular point of the year,
and that's where it's at now. People laugh when you say, hey,
you know there's still mathematically in line for a playoff
(02:14:14):
spot and this and that. But that's the motivation, right.
You have to believe that you beat Baltimore today. You
have to believe that Miami beats Pittsburgh tomorrow night, and
the ball keeps rolling for yet another week and over
and above that. What are we looking for besides the effort?
What are we looking for today, Tony from this Bengals team.
Besides effort, what do you need to see that would
(02:14:37):
translate into a win?
Speaker 15 (02:14:39):
Improvement on the defensive side of the ball. You know,
Mose alluded to it all year. I don't care about
stops in the first half. Give me a stop when
it's a meaningful point in the game. You know, when
you got a double digit lead, go get one more
stop and put Buffalo away in the fourth quarter. And
if you do give up a touchdown, don't do it
in a one minute and eleven second drive.
Speaker 24 (02:14:56):
That's the thing to me.
Speaker 15 (02:14:57):
It's situational awareness on the defensive side of the ball.
When this team has needed stops the most. They have
failed to get them. Whether it's scheme, technique, mistackles, it
always seems to be something on the defensive side of
the ball. Trey Hendrickson's not walking back through that door.
There aren't the playmakers you hoped. If you're Joseph Osai,
you're in a contract year, Miles Murphy. They got decisions
(02:15:19):
to make. These linebackers at some point have to take
some kind of step forward. That, to me is what
I look forward to, especially knowing we haven't seen it
much this year. I still know the talent that Lamar
Jackson possesses, and again I don't want to see Derek
Henry getting to the second level on a day where
the temperatures are under ten degrees.
Speaker 26 (02:15:39):
Last week, in the fourth quarter, the defense was given
a ten point lead and blew it. Now, Yes, Joe
Burrow threw a pick six, but the drive before the
pick six, they allow Baltimore to go down the field
in four plays in one minute and eleven seconds.
Speaker 25 (02:15:55):
Later on in the game, on the goal line, fourth
and goal.
Speaker 26 (02:15:59):
If they get off the field, Joe Burrow gets the
football back with a shot, they give up a touchdown
to the third string tight end Cincinnati scores. Bengals defense
is back on the field. It's third and fifteen. You
just basically have to make sure that Josh Allen doesn't
run for fifteen yards. He runs for seventeen. Multiple times
last week, the defense had a chance to make a
(02:16:19):
positive imprint on the game for Cincinnati.
Speaker 15 (02:16:21):
That to me, has been the story of this season. Yes,
Burrow has gotten hurt, Yes that's a problem. But whether
it's been with Joe Joe Flacco or even Jake Browning,
in the fourth quarter of games, when the defense has
had a chance to win the game, or give the
ball back to the offense or keep them in it,
(02:16:42):
they have failed every single time.
Speaker 26 (02:16:45):
Does that continue today? I don't think Baltimore is going
to blow the Bengals out. I don't think the Bengals
are gonna go are gonna blow Baltimore out. NFL games
usually come down to the fourth quarter. My guess is
this does as well. Does the defense help them win
it or again, do they falter when the game is
on the line Baltimore.
Speaker 12 (02:17:04):
I mean, we all watch the games. Good tight ends,
nobody's going to say that they're not likely has had
some big drops this season. Okay, I see that Derrick
Henry underused against the Bengals in Week one. We saw that.
What I can't figure out is they have a lot
of trouble throwing the ball down field. And I don't
(02:17:25):
know if that's just because a lack of talent or whatnot.
An Xay Flowers is a terrific wide receiver, but there's
a deficiency in that Baltimore offense. I think that is
playing into their inability to Labar's inability to run as
much as his injury, and not using the running back
as much as they need to. I think maybe that
opens up for them today if they can get Henry
(02:17:45):
going to play. To your point, the last thing you
want to see is Henry in the second level of
that defense or it's over.
Speaker 24 (02:17:51):
Yep.
Speaker 26 (02:17:52):
Yeah, I mean I would be stunned if Derrick Henry
midway through the second quarter hasn't totaled his rush total
in terms of carries from the first meeting.
Speaker 25 (02:18:03):
I'll give you one more in terms of motivation.
Speaker 26 (02:18:06):
I really couldn't care less about the Pro Bowl, but
I'm sure DJ Turner does, and he's got a chance.
Amid a miserable season from a defensive perspective, he has
been terrific. I Again, usually what happens is you have
a good year and then the Pro Bowl accolades come
the following season.
Speaker 25 (02:18:27):
Maybe he has in the sort.
Speaker 26 (02:18:28):
Of game today that makes people give him a look
and vote again. Pro Bowl voting to me is sort
of stupid. But he has had a really good year
and you would like to see him down the stretch
sort of put a punctuation mark on the good season.
And by the way, he's one of those guys that
you're looking at being a cornerstone moving forward. Bengals should
get out in front of it and sign him right now.
(02:18:48):
But with every good game he has, maybe his asking
price goes up. So for him, I'd like to see
him put a cap these final four weeks on what
has been a terrific season.
Speaker 12 (02:18:56):

poor or four Postman Others Promised. Postman delivers. Shamar Stewart
eligible to practice again this week but will not play today.
T Higgins is out a lot of questionable guys for
(02:19:20):
the Ravens, but as we know with injury reports and
with the Ravens have dealt with him, questionable could mean anything,
but it doesn't look like other than Higgins, there is
a significant injury on this report for either teams.
Speaker 26 (02:19:33):
Look that way to you, it's not insignificant that Shamar
Stewart is not going to go today because I think
you were hoping when he was able to practice that
maybe he can recoup something of his otherwise lost rookie season.
Speaker 25 (02:19:48):
Maybe he still does. He's not going to get that
chance today.

in the Ravens locker room right now is John Harbaugh.
And you don't have to tell John about the ramifications
for his team that lie in the next four hours.
Here's Harball.
Speaker 87 (02:24:32):
So it's critically important. I mean we ramifications doesn't mean nothing.
I mean to say we control our own destiny. It's
only if we win. You have to win to control
your destiny. So that's what we have to do. And
it's been that way the last two weeks and we
hadn't been able to pull up a winning was that
way the previous four weeks, and we were able to
do it.
Speaker 24 (02:24:50):
So you know, we need to go win.
Speaker 12 (02:24:52):
That's it. We need to win.
Speaker 87 (02:24:54):
If you win, then you have a chance to control
your destiny. If you don't, it's going to be out
of your hands. That's simple.
Speaker 12 (02:24:59):
As they're a game behind Pittsburgh. They've got this game today,
then they're home on Sunday Night football next week against
the Patriots at Green Bay the following Saturday, and they
finish at Pittsburgh. The schedule is not forgiving for Baltimore,
to say the least. Pittsburgh has Monday Night Football Lamorrow night.
They got the Dolphins at Pittsburgh. Game time temperatures somewhere
(02:25:23):
around ten degrees. They're saying at Detroit at Cleveland, and
they finish up at home. As you just heard with Baltimore.
Interesting game today in Seattle, Indianapolis against Seattle. Interesting because
forty four year old Philip Rivers is going to quarterback
the Indianapolis Colts Tony or what about five six years younger.
Speaker 24 (02:25:45):
Then that's going to be the store here in a
couple of years.
Speaker 15 (02:25:47):
You guys have be doing this show without me and
be like, where's Tony's getting ready to be a backup
down the street?
Speaker 12 (02:25:53):
Well?
Speaker 16 (02:25:53):
What you know? What?
Speaker 12 (02:25:54):
Thank you?
Speaker 24 (02:25:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (02:25:55):
If Bill o time, if Phillip Rivers could do it,
you should be making phone calls.
Speaker 25 (02:25:59):
I love how long he was.
Speaker 24 (02:26:00):
They're like, hey, what's your weight? He's like, it's more
than what I was when I played.
Speaker 25 (02:26:03):
That's the thing.
Speaker 15 (02:26:04):
You care how fast he is. It's not just that
he's forty four years old. It's last week he was
on the couch. It's also not just that he's forty
four and coming back. He's forty four coming back and
having to go play at Seattle. Good gracious, big numbers.
Speaker 24 (02:26:16):
Good for him.
Speaker 12 (02:26:17):
Seattle is given thirteen and a half in that game.
Who you like to him?
Speaker 24 (02:26:20):
Because I'm gonna take Seattle. I don't know how.
Speaker 15 (02:26:23):
If you want something interesting, his rushing total is a
half a yard?
Speaker 26 (02:26:28):
Does he go over a half yard? That's what I'm
watching for. I would take Seattle if Daniel Jones were playing.
I'm taking it with Philip Rivers playing.
Speaker 12 (02:26:35):
Washington at the Giants meaningless game, Giants giving two and
a half. What do you think?
Speaker 25 (02:26:39):
Moe oh, I'll take the Commanders. Kind of hold my nose.
Speaker 26 (02:26:44):
The Giants have represented themselves okay since making a coaching change.
Washington's maybe the biggest disappointment.
Speaker 15 (02:26:51):
In the league this season. And not saying something, but
I will grab the points with Washington.
Speaker 12 (02:26:56):
I'm gonna hopscotch here.
Speaker 15 (02:26:57):
Giants don't want to play themselves. No out of that
number one pick right Washington.
Speaker 12 (02:27:01):
Buffalo at New England, where amazingly New England is getting
a point. Sterling's comment about an hour ago about bye
weeks and team coming off by weeks is interesting. I
don't know New England plus a point, Well, that's kind
of tantalizing. What do you think they're.
Speaker 26 (02:27:15):
Gonna lose a game at some point? Yeah, this is
probably the best team they play. Apologies to the Baltimore Ravens.
I'll take Buffalo.
Speaker 12 (02:27:22):
Same Chargers at the Chiefs. This is it for the Chiefs.
They're on life support. Chiefs are giving six to the Chargers.
Herbert still has that left the hand injuries working through.
Speaker 15 (02:27:35):
What do you think, Tony, Yeah? Too much here? I
just I don't think that the Chargers can overcome that. Eventually,
the Chiefs are gonna win a close game. I know
it's a big number, but I.
Speaker 24 (02:27:43):
Think Kansas City keeps their swim hopes alive.
Speaker 15 (02:27:46):
Agreed too much with Justin Herbert. It's his quick turnaround.
The hand is busted. He played poorly last week until
the very end.
Speaker 12 (02:27:53):
I'll take cases in Denver, the Broncos getting one against
the Packers. Packers are back in first place and they're
vision after last week again, Denver getting a point, same logic,
they have to lose.
Speaker 15 (02:28:05):
The same way with mo Eventually. They've won ten games
in a row and they've not all been pretty. I
think Green Bay's playing good football right now. I'll take
the Packers.
Speaker 26 (02:28:12):
Most underappreciated quarterback in the league, Jordan Love, and the
pack win and cover.
Speaker 12 (02:28:16):
You got Detroit at the Rams. Rams are giving six.
But the thing that's tantalizing here for me is that
the number in this game, the total is fifty five.
That's a big number.
Speaker 15 (02:28:26):
So many injuries on the defensive side of the ball
for Detroit. The Rams I think are the best Super
Bowl team right now out of the NFC. I'll take
the Rams to win and cover.
Speaker 25 (02:28:36):
Same.
Speaker 12 (02:28:37):
Yeah, I think the Rams are gonna win two. Dallas
Sunday Night football at home with Minnesota. Minnesota, they've kind
of gone off the cliff. Dallas, who knows, still playing
for something? Yeah, Miles five and a half. I think
Dallas beats Minnesota. I'm still playing for something. I think
they went straight up. And then Monday night football, you
got Miami at Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh wins. They're really in the
driver's seat. They're giving three, which leads one to believe
(02:29:00):
it's home field advantage. Is it more than that?
Speaker 17 (02:29:02):
Mom?
Speaker 15 (02:29:02):
No, TJ Watt. But unfortunately for the Dolphins as well
as they've played two is awful in the cold weather,
it's gonna be cold in Pittsburgh. Will take the Steelers great?
Speaker 12 (02:29:10):
Yeah, I think Steers when they get seven.
Speaker 15 (02:29:12):
And here today, Tony, what do you think Bengals win?
Bengals cover, they keep their playoff hopes alive. I think
it's Joe Burrow Chase Brown, and I think Jamar Chase
finds the end zone twice. I'm getting two and a
half points with a pissed off Joe Burrow at home.
Speaker 24 (02:29:27):
Love it.
Speaker 25 (02:29:28):
Give me the Bengals and but for the week, Joe
Brow has fun today.
Speaker 24 (02:29:34):
Yes, you guys got Potter, You're back to fun.
Speaker 12 (02:29:37):
That's it for the art out. We're back to five

Speaker 78 (02:30:41):
Good afternoon to welcome to Countdown to Kickoff on the
Cincinnati Bengals Radio Network for today's matchup at pay Court
Stadium between the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals, or should
I say pay cold stadium, Wayne Box Miility countdown to
kickoff host and this is arguably a rematch the Ravens
have been waiting for after the Bengals run their Thanksgiving
or two weeks ago. But with both teams in desperation mode,
(02:31:03):
it's about trying to find a way to stay in
the playoff picture after a today, and mathematical equation won't
be in the losing team's favor. And you're not only
playing against the Ravens, but mother nature is front and center.
Speaker 24 (02:31:16):
You met.
Speaker 78 (02:31:17):
Burrough wants to finish strong this week and the Ravens
want payback for a bad Bird day. Either way, it's

My colleagues, Dan Horde and Dave Lapham, gentlemen.
Speaker 24 (02:31:32):
Thank you.
Speaker 25 (02:31:32):
Box.
Speaker 19 (02:31:32):
Weather is definitely the headline today here in Cincinnati. This
is going to be the coldest day in the twenty
six seasons of Bengals football here at pay Court Stadium.
The current temperature is six degrees. It feels like it
is negative six degrees. The forecast high today is for
eleven degrees, so It's not exactly the freezer ball, right,
(02:31:55):
but it is cold.
Speaker 25 (02:31:56):
You played in that game.
Speaker 19 (02:31:57):
Dave Lapham, Let's talk about the mindset the players are
in right now, or approximately an hour and a half
before kickoff. How does somebody get mentally and physically ready
to play under these conditions?
Speaker 80 (02:32:09):
Well, you, uh, you know, you know what you're looking at.
You know it's going to be uncomfortable. You have to
just get your mind ready for that. It's not going
to be a situation where it's going to be an
enjoyable experience out there, There's no question about that.
Speaker 24 (02:32:25):
Uh.
Speaker 80 (02:32:26):
I think right now, guys are out there and and
some guys are probably going to be out there earlier
than they normally are to see what they can tolerate,
see how much they have to put on, what kind
of clothing they might have to wear, whether it be
you know, long sleeves, extra leggings, whatever the case might be,
to keep themselves warm enough to be able to function
(02:32:46):
and perform at a high level out there for their
for their football team. Guys that have been in the
league for a while have probably experienced something like this,
but this is probably as cold as they've ever had
to tolerate. There's no doubt about that, you know, and
I think now too, coaches might be out there with
(02:33:07):
players and they might be in a discussion about what
things we're going to emphasize, you know what, what can
we do, What what is the weather going to allow
us to do? What is the weather going to take
away from us? Potentially we're gonna have to make some
adjustments in our game plan that we took out of
our playbook. Maybe we're gonna have to, you know, bring
something else out of the playbook that we didn't think
(02:33:27):
