Speaker 2 (00:07):
Evan is on the phone today for our first Day
follow up and he's getting ghosted by Ruby. So in
a few minutes we'll call her and see if she'll
tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him
a second date. But first, Evan, how long has it
vin since you heard from Ruby?

Speaker 3 (00:19):
It's been about four days?

Speaker 4 (00:23):
Okay, that's too bad. Yeah, have you hit her up
a bunch in that time?

Speaker 3 (00:28):
I did try a couple of times. Yeah, I don't
want to overdo it, but reached out and definitely got nothing back.

Speaker 5 (00:36):
Okay, And you feel like that's weird, Like you feel
like four days is a long time?

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Did not hear from her?

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Yeah, we're kind of hitting it off, so it is
it's out of the ordinary.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Well, tell us about your date.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Well, Ruby and I went to Rooftop Bar and you know,
it had the best view of the city. It was
it's her idea. Actually it was super cool. Well, you know,
I can't really beat it for our first daid. Just great,
great place to grab drinks, shared a charcoterie board, and

(01:11):
you know our conversation was just really easy, natural. The
vibe was laid back and plenty of kind of flirty moments.
She's hilarious, you know, we're making each other laugh the
whole night, and they were just sparked, you know, the
kind of can't bake. We ended up taking a walk

(01:32):
after and because we were both a little buzzed, and
before we said good night, there are a few kisses
and yeah, you know, it's just a kind of date
you'd never want to stop.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Okay, well, why do you think you're hitting? Ghosted?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Then? Honestly really confused. You know, we were texting NonStop
for two days after, so things are you know, they
felt promising and then nothing, it just stopped.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
So wait, you went on the date and you ended
up hearing from her after the date.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Yeah, after the date for about two days and.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Then it stopped.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Right Could it be something you texted?

Speaker 3 (02:15):
I don't think so. I mean I don't think it was.
I did text her a pick of me, like in
the bathroom with a towel on as a tease, like
I thought it would be harmless.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Okay, is that the last time you heard from her?

Speaker 3 (02:31):
I believe so.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
Hard trip and if I got ghosted after that.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
She was teasing me about having ABS, so I just
decided to show her. You know, I don't know, maybe
it was too much. It wasn't like a pick or anything.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
You know, do you have abs?

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Or was joking around me and like check out mine,
but you don't have them?

Speaker 3 (02:50):
You know I have abs? Yeah, I mean I just
wanted to prove myself.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
Okay, that could be it. So was a selfie, yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Mean if you stop talking to you right after that,
then that probably it probably has something to do with that.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
I don't know. I mean, I don't think it was
that bad or racy or anything.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
But what did you say when you send the picture
of yourself in a towel?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Nothing much, just I think it's put like a little
blurble like you know, here proved or something like along
those lines.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Okay, well we'll see if we can help you out
with then then. I mean, it just kind of strange
that wild stop talking to you right after that, so
that might be the reason. But we'll play a song
come back and see if we can get you a
second date. In your first day follow up.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Right in the middle of today's first day follow up,
if you're just joining us, Evan is on the phone
and he's getting ghosted by Ruby. So we're about to
call her and see if she tell us why she's
ghosting him and hopefully get him a second date. But first, Evan,
why don't you break down your date for us one
more time.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Yeah, we had a lot of great moments on our dates.
Barks flew, everything was perfect, sought, we had a connection,
and you know, two days after the date, I've not
heard from her.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
And the last thing that you sent her was, let's
not forget this part, a picture of yourself in the
bathroom and a towel.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
I did send her my ab.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
All right, Well, are you ready to see if that's
the reason you're getting ghosted?

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Okay, here we go. I'm gonna call her right now. Hi,
Mas speak to Ruby. Please, Hey Ruby, how are you?
This is a radio show. It's called the Jubil Show.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Hi Ruby, my name is Nina.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Hi, I'm Victoria and I'm Jubeil. How are you.

Speaker 6 (04:56):
Okay?

Speaker 7 (04:57):
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Have you ever listened to the show? Before I have dope.
Thank you? Well, what if I told you that you
were the star of a first eight follow up? Right now?

Speaker 6 (05:11):
Oh god?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, we got an email about you from somebody that
you're ghosting, and they don't know why. You know, who
would emails.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
I'm pretty sure it's probably Evan.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
You're a very smart ruby. Evan told us about your date,
said that he really liked you, thought you guys had
an awesome time, but you texted for a little while
after and then you just ghosted him, and he wants
to know what's up? Would you mind telling us?

Speaker 7 (05:37):
I mean, like, look, I really I thought Evan was
great and we had an amazing time. But then after
my date, my friend showed me something and it just
it kind of killed the vibe for me.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
Okay, what was it?

Speaker 6 (05:54):
Okay?

Speaker 7 (05:54):
So I tested my friend a picture of Evan when
we were on the base because she wanted to look
like And then the next night she sends me a
picture of him with some other girl, like literally the
night after we went on the date, and then she
was at another bar and they were making out.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
No, no, no, no, you've got it wrong.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
That's Evan. He's actually on the phone and wants to
talk to you.

Speaker 6 (06:21):
Oh my god. I mean, like, yeah, okay, I knew.
I guess I knew this was coming. Oh man, hi.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Hi, Uh look you've got it all wrong.

Speaker 6 (06:37):
It's not no, no, no, Evan. You are literally in
the picture.

Speaker 7 (06:41):
I mean, it's not hard to recognize someone when you
were just right there, you know.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Oh okay, Yeah it happened, but it's not what you think.
Like she's she's someone I've been cooking up with for
a while, and I was I was going to tell
her it was over because I wanted to focus on
you that night, and I just I didn't get to
it yet.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
So you were, oh with someone else right after your
date making out with her?

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Technically, yeah, Egan, you were just with.

Speaker 6 (07:16):
Me and then you just go and make out with
someone else.

Speaker 7 (07:18):
I mean, I understand people date multiple people, but it
just it felt.

Speaker 6 (07:23):
Wrong to me.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
I swear, I swear I'm done with her. I'm not
seeing anyone else. I like you. I was going to
tell her that the next day, but it was like,
it wasn't like that anymore, Like you're the one that
I want to date.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Did you tell her that?

Speaker 3 (07:40):
I told her?

Speaker 5 (07:42):
I mean, I wouldn't want to see a picture of
the dude that I just want to date with, mixed
like messing around with somebody else again, Like she said,
I get people are dating other people, but if I
don't know, I wouldn't feel good about that either.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
I just would have too many questions.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
Yeah, like are you just saying that like you want
to date me? Or like did you hook up with
her that night? You know, that's just how it ful
to me.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Did you hook up her? Yeah, but it was it
was just like a last like last round type of thing.
I swear I told her about you at that point,
and that was the last time.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
You told her after you hooked up.

Speaker 8 (08:20):
You're not hooked up with her after you told her
about me, Like seriously, No, I told her about you
after I hooked up with Herful Okay, so you hooked
up with her after you told her about me?

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Like seriously, No, I hooked up with her and then
I told her about you, like it's but but that's
because things felt so different with you, Like we've been
on one date. It's a like I cheated on you
or anything. I was just I was trying to do
the right thing.

Speaker 7 (08:58):
I mean, it would have been her if you told
her before and didn't.

Speaker 6 (09:02):
Hook up the way.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Okay, I get that, but it was, you know, it
was just kind of desperate. Instead, I didn't get to
see you, and you know, I was just trying to
break things off and it didn't go as smoothly as
I hoped it would.

Speaker 7 (09:19):
I mean, if we were to date and you didn't
see me, you can't hook up with other people.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Like, I'm not trying to do that. I swear.

Speaker 5 (09:30):
It's kind of tricky because he kind of does have
a point. He is trying to do the right thing,
like he didn't cheat on anybody, and she's out of
the picture now.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Ruby, would you like to go on a second date
with Evan? We'll pay for it.

Speaker 7 (09:42):
I mean, Evan, are there any other people I need
to know about?

Speaker 3 (09:47):
I mean, yeah, well yes, but I want to text
them and let them know I'm not available via text.
I'm not going to meet up with them. I will
show you the text.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
What do you think, Ruby, It sounds like serious?

Speaker 7 (10:04):
I mean, like honestly, we did just go in one
date and it was like a really really good date.
But I swear to God, Evan, if any of my
friends send me more pictures of you out with other women.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
You're gonna wish that I was just ghosting you.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
It will be very promise you'll never see that again.
I don't want to to ever meet that side of
you again.

Speaker 6 (10:34):
Okay, sure, all right, we'll go out again.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Are you happy?

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Yeah? Thank you, You're welcome.

Speaker 6 (10:46):
You wise.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
