Speaker 1 (00:00):
Presnel State first home game tomorrow, Red Wave, get those tickets.
We want to see you at Valley Children's Stadium. See
King Carmen be ninety five joining us right now, Director
of Athletics at Fresnel State, Gary Classy.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Well, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
We're excited that you're on. We're excited for the home opener.
Carmen had a blast at the Shakira concert. Oh my god,
it was Yes, how could you not?
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, it was also real and just like you know,
being that it was the first concert there, I just
couldn't miss it. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
It's just such a big deal.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
But just also what a great turnout it was, you know.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Thank you. Yeah, it was the fans really showed up.
And it just shows that the city of Fresnel, the county,
this region, they're they're ready for more entertainment options and
we're very fortunate and glad that we're able to provide
that for them.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
And that's you know what.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
I got to give you this because one of the
things I loved was a communication that was happening before, during,
and after that was beautiful.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Well, thank you, I mean, listen, we've learned a lot
from that experience and and we you know, we're making
some changes for Saturday's game days based on some of
the things we learned from that concert. Just always trying
to get better and so what the one thing I've
learned was value. They're okay if you make mistakes, own up,
move on and get better.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
That part, that part, I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
We're talking to Fresno State's director of athletics, Garrett Classy
right now with c King. Carmen Garrett, I have to
ask you this. I'm sure other people are yelling at
the radio right now, like, Okay, Shakira was number one?
Are you bringing more concerts? Is next? Listen.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
We're always open, our ears are always open. We're always
looking to do new things, exciting things. There's nothing on
the books yet, but conversations have been had yet.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
I know some people are even saying, what about some
soccer matches? Put some soccer matches inside Valley Children's.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, we've had some interest. You know, I think one
of the issues we have with soccer is that a
lot of the professional teams only want to play on grass.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Oh yeah, we're.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Playing that out and we're not regulation size. But I
will say We've had some interest from some major professional
Mexican soccer teams that have looked at coming here. It's
not saying it's imminent, but there has been some interest.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
All right, Well, let's talk about the home opener. We're
excited Red Wave, we needed to fill up Valley Children's Stadium.
Georgia Southern is coming to town. There is nothing better
than a game day on a Saturday, Garrett, talk about
that and talk about some of the new concessions.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Yeah, absolutely, Well, we're going to go back with the
you know, the red hour we caught we're in you
know hour after gates open. You have discounted pricing on
beer and some concession items and that's exciting to bring back.
And listen, Pardin, they're great partners. They do just such
an incredible job. They're always trying to change their offerings,
especially with the food trucks that they have going up
(02:49):
and down the concourses to meet the needs of our fans.
And they're going to do that again for this season.
Sowys always happy to have good partners that take part
of our football games.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah, it's going to be a great time. And I
tell everyone we only get six days a year. Yeah,
to pack Valley Children's Stadium to celebrate this Fresno State
football team. I mean, we call it the biggest party
in the valley and that's exactly what it is.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
And when you say it like Dassie, I don't think
people realize six days, Yeah, think about it.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
That's all you get.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
So when you say I'll go the next one, I'll go, like,
make it, just make it happen.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Do it, make it happen.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
You know. The one thing I'll tell you is that
that was really part of the recruiting process when we
hired man Ins to come here. He wanted to play
in front of the Red Wave. And this is the
Red waves first opportunity to really show them what we're
all about. And I know they're going to show up.
You know, we're if we were to announce attendance today
and be right around thirty five thousand, So we have
about five thousand more to go, and we gotta we
(03:44):
have a streak of sell and at least thirty eight
thousand for the last two seasons. So I know the
Red Wave will show up, but we have some work
to do. So we hope they come out and really
support this coaching staff, and more importantly, the student athletes
have been working really hard in the heat to put
on a product in the field that is going to
make the whole valley proud.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Now that's true, but you also know that Fresno is
a walk up crowd.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
So it is it is.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
We learned that with Shakira. I was exactly that Shakira
concert happened a week prior than it did. I was
getting a little worried.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Get a come right back with the director of athletics
for Fresno State, Garrett Classy. Next with c k and
Carmen is being ninety five. We're back see Kane Carmen
be ninety five. Garrett Classy is joining us right now,
director of athletics at Fresno State, getting ready for that
first home game. We're talking about the Shakida concert and
how it's sold out.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
No, I you know what the one thing can I
keep bouncing back on air? We kept saying that we're like, no,
I mean, Fresno is a walk up, but we were
still encouraging them obviously get your seats before, just to
say it's less hassle, you know. But one thing about
Fresno if they got time and money last minute, they'll
make it happen.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
And the funny thing about it, Herrett was, so we're
on the air every morning and I can sit there
and I can look at the seats. I'm sitting there
in my mind, I'm going, all right, this mini sold Monday,
This mini sold Tuesday. I'm like you, guys, if if
you wait to Thursday morning, you're not gonna be able
to get a ticket.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, well that's exactly right, and that's what we're hopeful.
You know, the students have been doing an incredible job.
The public sales have been going well, and so we
are seeing movement every single day. So yeah, I would
urge fans to buy sooner rather than later, and listen.
I'd love to tell you a couple of things.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
You know.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I think a point of contention I heard in my
in my first year here at our home games as
well as for the Shakira concert where lines that get
in the stadium and listen, I know, are if you're
the biggest part of the valley, you want you want
to partake in that biggest party up until last possible moment.
So we're we've heard from the fans, we're going to
open up more gates in the northwest and southwest for
full entry. We're adding to different types of metal detectors.
(05:45):
We had metal detectors where fans had to empty their
pockets at stadiums. Now we have these open gate metal
detectors where fans can walk right through. Cool And we're
going to have people out there directing traffic to people
where there are gates with left lines where if there's
a line, they can move over and get in there quicker.
And so we've heard, We've listened. You know, we want
to make sure that we show them that we do
(06:05):
our part, that we care about their fan experience as well.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
You know what, I'm excited for this game, cannot wait.
I also can say this. I'm gonna be on the
mic a lot sooner this year. I hear, I'm gonna
go on the mic before the game and get the
crowd hides up so you got to get inside the stadium.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Well, I put a big point emphasis on flyovers this year,
and I love, you know, the sky diving team. They
always do a great job and they'll be around this
year too. Nice And I mean I get my office buzzy.
They fly my tower like we have so many planes
of the valley like that's just part of the viewing experience.
And so we'll have some f fifteens going overhead and
(06:43):
the only way you can see those are from your seats.
Getting there early.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Exactly, Garrett, before we let you go, is there anything
you want to say to the red Wave? I tell everyone,
the Garrett Classy era has been done. The one thing
I love is when I'm in the grocery store and
I see someone wearing a Fresno State hat for our
prisonal state shirt and there's a simple go Dogs that
has exchanged. I mean, I love the fact that everybody
in the valley is catching on quickly with the Go Dogs. Garrett.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
The Go Dogs is great, But I do if I
have one minute, Ck and Kart, I got a special
announcement that the listeners will hear here for your first
is that we're also offering an affordable way for our fans
to watch not just football games and all our games.
We just announced the Bulldog Pass and Bulldog Family Pass
and for seventy four dollars. This is an introductory price.
(07:30):
It'll go up to one hundred dollars later.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
People.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
One individual person in book a ticket across every Bulldog
home game. Then go to the basketball softball, baseball, women's basketball, volleyball,
and you can choose your own seats, no blackout dates.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
You can hold up the two events at a.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Time and only for one hundred and forty nine dollars
for a family of four. So we want to do
our parts to make sure that everyone has access to
not just our football games. So every single event we
have here and that's that's only going to be on
sale for a limited amount of time. And we just
announced this minutes ago. So the red Wave will take
advantage of that special offer.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
That's huge.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
And you said no blackout dates.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
No blackout dates, they don't come to any event they
wont so.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Okay, that's a big deal.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
The methicise model is really important, especially to the younger generation,
a ticket by buyer, So we want to make sure
we meet them at their level and some offerings that
excite them. Subscription models is how it works, and that's
what we want to bring to them.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
That is so cool. Garrett, thank you so much for
your time. We really appreciate you. We're excited for this
presno state home opener, go ahead, let's do it. Go Dogs. Garrett,
thank you so much, thank you, thank you. Carmon, there
you go, Garrett, classy right there, director of Athletics Presno
State doing some big things. And you know what, we
cannot wait for this football game tomorrow. Go Dogs. Can't
(08:47):
