Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is the Wichita Weekend podcast from iHeartRadio Stations ninety
seven point nine, B ninety eight one oh two one,
The Bowl Channel nine six three and one oh seven three.
I'm your host Don Guidis. Thanks for joining us. Welcome
to the Wichita Weekend podcast, where we regularly get together
and talk about things that are happening in Wichita and

(00:23):
Wichita people. And a very exciting event is coming our
way in September. It's automan Art at Bradley Fair. Our
guests in the studio today are Brianna Monk. She is
the President, CEO and Queen of Wichita Festival.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Say a louder say aloud us say, and we.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Have Sarah Grant, this year's featured automan Art artist. Congratulations Sarah,
thank you for winning. Thanks welcome, Brianna. Are you too
fired up for autuman Art?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Absolutely when I tell you, we are so ready for
autumn and art to come and for everyone to see
the exciting stuff that we have this year and to
spend time with one of the coolest humans on the
planet that has made the most amazing hyperrealistic art. Like
I'm fangirling right now, you know what I'm saying, And

(01:18):
we absolutely love Sarah and excited for everyone to see
what we see.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Automan Art September twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth Bradley Fair a
not to be missed event. If you love art, if
you love the outdoors, if you love people, you need
to come. You just need to come because it is
time well spent. Let's talk about how this all kicks
off on Friday night, September twelfth of the Patron Party.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Oh my goodness. So the Patron Party is, like we stated,
it's September twelfth from six to nine pm, and that's
going to be in the Wilson Estates Parkway, and that
is one of the most premier parties around. That is
the only paid part of Ottoman Art.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
The tickest of it's free.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
The rest of it's free, you know, but this one
you are able to just experience. We are providing you
in experience. The tickets for the Patron Party are one
hundred and twenty five dollars and that absolutely gets you
entrance into an exclusive all purpose event. When I tell
you we have everything from a starry night tunnel that

(02:25):
you're walking through, then you're getting the most amazing swag
bag and the theme of the swag bag is take flight,
so it's everything that you can remotely take on a
plane and not get in trouble for it, as long
as it's kind of packed away a little bit, you know.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Yes, that's right.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
So we have those things. We have live entertainment, we
have live sculptures, we have speed painters. We have DJ
Carbon He's going to be there playing some amazing music.
We got illusionists. We have the most new pork grille,
Il Vacinos, larger in Bellmont, with all the food. And

(03:04):
when I say it's a packed menu, it's a packed menu.
And did I also mention that Pella Pella is absolutely
one of the top sponsors for Ottoman Art and I
can't wait for everyone to just experience them as well.
So come out, have some food, have some fun, just
enjoy the art, Come play a little bingo game with us.
Interact with the artists because they're all They're on the Parkway, Like,

(03:28):
why would you not want to go and internet interact
with some most with the most amazing people that has
tons of creation. So they're going to be available. And
guess what, you can go through the Parkway for free,
so you only have to pay to get into the
patron party, which the experience is worth it. It's well
worth it. We have the bars in there, the beverages

(03:50):
in there are amazing and they're so additional charge for
those so come in experience that have some seats, have
some SIPs and enjoy I love it.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Speaking of interacting with the artists, Sarah Grant, how many
times have you participated in autom and art?

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Okay, so this is my believe it or not. This
is my second year. Last year was my automan art
was my introduction to art fairs. Okay, it was my
first fair and they set the bar incredibly high.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
They set it high.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
The crowds were amazing, and it's my hometown. I mean,
this is my local hometown crowd. So I really get
to connect with people, which is just awesome. The artist,
the caliber of the artist everyone there is phenomenal. They
are so good. And then this second year, I was

(04:47):
chosen to be the featured artist, which blew my mind
and I am lucky. Forward, I'm going to have so
much more than I had last year. It's going to
be bigger, better, and I've got I'm just so excited
to see everybody. Then everybody, the community, come out right.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Well, for those that don't know your work, could you
describe in a few words here what you're about, what
your star is.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Sure, I do colored pencils. Everything I do is in
colored pencils, which is an odd one. It's rare. It
is painstakingly done. On average, i'd say forty to fifty
hours apiece. Really, yeah, for the originals, Yeah, it's very
very slow going.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
I do a lot of emotional portraiture.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
So emotional portrait, yes, what would that be for me?

Speaker 3 (05:37):
As you can tell from this radio interview, I'm probably
not super articulate with my words.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Oh you know, I color the things.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
But for me sometimes it's really hard to express my
feelings or what I want to say to get it
out in the right way.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
But I can draw it.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
I can draw it, and I can communicate through that way.
So for me, those feelings and emotions i'm having, what
I'm going through, I'm able to capture that in an
image or a picture rather than trying to express out
with my words. So it's great therapy for me, honestly.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
All right, Well, hey, your therapy is everybody else's gain, right.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yes, But I do love it when somebody can relate
to something I'm going through, and you get that connection
and you don't feel quite so alone.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
You know.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
That's really the added bonus of everything.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
All right, Well, that's a great explanation, and we're excited
to come visit and see what you've got for us
this year.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
Please do, yes, come visit things.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
You have a booth or a tint or I've.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Got a big tint. Most artists there do. They have
a great big tint and it is jam packed with art.
I have originals, framed original works for sale, and then
I also have Gequa prints and then I will have
also some reproductions of originals. So I am going to

(07:10):
hit every price point. I mean, we're going from literally
ten dollars to eight hundred.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
That is great to know because I think sometimes folks
forget that they can shop at Automan Art.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Absolutely, and if there is space in your home that's
begging for something special, yes, whatever that is, you may
not know what it is till you come to autam
And Art and you see it.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Yeah. Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Like we say, there's a variety of media, right.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
There is a variety of media that will be available
to that. In addition, we do have some influencers that
will be there on sites for several days of that
of automan Art to make sure that our message is
conveyed properly. People. Some people don't even realize that automan
Art exis. They did not know that Witchtat Festivals had

(08:04):
an event that they could come to without paying some
type of fee. Now, mind you with the patron party,
you know, put on Interest Bank. Got to give some
love to Interest Bank, Wygan and PC. In addition to that,
they can come and just enjoy themselves and be as
expressive as they want to be without breaking the bank

(08:27):
to do it. But we would absolutely love if they
break it a little bit.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
That's right. That's right. If you bring some plastic you
don't have to plan. But if you have it in
your pocket exactly something, Oh man, I got to grab
that before somebody else does exactly, And that's kind of
how it works, right.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Yes, yes, come prepared.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
I'm ready to do some strolling, that's right, and some
looking and some visiting.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yes, yes, don't forget the sunscreen.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Yes, we still have some. Well it's mid September, so
it could be a little sunny.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
It's a little warm out there, and I want to
make sure people are safe, so don't forget the sunscreen
because you're going to be out there for a while.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
Yes, it's a very it's a long it's a long.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Lock beautiful block and Bradley Fair it's gorgeous.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
Like it is a really nice setup.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
You could make an entire Last year, there were people
that came all three days. This was their event of
the year. That I talked to people and they were like, no,
we come to the Patron Party. We come, we scout
out what we want to come back to on Saturday,
Saturday we tackle half. I mean you could literally have
two days. You'd have three days. You could eat one

(09:47):
hundred and twenty dollars worth of food from Newport like that.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
You know you're getting your money.

Speaker 4 (09:52):
It's worth Friday.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
You can come out Saturday and Sunday and have a
free weekend.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
I have kids.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Ten and twelve, seventeen. They they love to go. I mean,
they have plenty of stuff for everybody.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
So it would truly be a family it would. Yes, Yeah,
I think that's great. And the idea of doing all
three days is really cool.

Speaker 6 (10:13):
Yes, yes, because it's it's hard to catch it all,
like in the space of the Patron Party. As great
as that is, you might see some stuff you want
to take another look at, right, think.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
About about Yeah, like what are we going to do?

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Where are we going to put that?

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Where we're going to put it?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
I think we're going to put that in the sun room.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I would absolutely assist anyone who is making that decision,
all right, I would absolutely assist personal shopping, Yeah, find me,
find me on the parkway. I will personally help you shop,
pa find me. Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
This is the Wichita Podcast and we are having more
fun than humans should be allowed to have in the
studio today we are with Brionna Monk from Wichita Festivals
and also Sarah Grant, Wichita artist who is this year's
featured artist at automan Art.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
And you know, Brianna, I was thinking, we didn't talk
about where to get Patron Party tickets. What's the best
way to get those tickets?

Speaker 2 (11:08):
The best way to get Patron Party tickets would be
to look on event bright. We do have event look
on event bright, look on evite, and also contact the
Wichita Festival's office.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Okay, so there's.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Three different ways to get those. We're having a volunteer
reception event coming up tomorrow we will have them for
sale going on there as well. So there's so many
different places that you can absolutely find the Patron Party
tickets for sale and we will sell them at the door.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
So just show up, you absolutely.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Right, We are not turning away. So remember I said
just tap the bank a little bit.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
That's right. Well, and you know which is kind of
a show up town a lot of ways. So that's
that's good for people to know. So September twelfth from
six to nine pm, Our Patron Party, September thirteenth, ten
am to seven pm. September fourteenth, Sunday, ten am to
five pm correct Ottoman Art.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
And also on September twelfth, if you are not going
to the Patron Party, the Parkway is still open to
you for free.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
That's good to know.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yes, you can absolutely come and shop from six to
nine pm on Friday if you are not going to
the Patron Party. The Patron Party is the only thing
that's a paid for event and the rest of it's
open on the Parkway, So come and take a look.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Okay, simple, simple, simple, just show up and enjoy.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
That's right now.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
I've got to ask you now, over the years Brianna
I know you've had some interesting media. They're at Automan
Art now. Sarah's got her winning colored pencil. Yes, artwork.
What are some of the more unusual medium that you
have seen? Media that you have seen if anybody doing

(12:55):
like crazy sculpture or plastic or weird stuf.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
The glass works, we have an artist that knows how
to manipulate glass like no other and it is some
very creative and fancy things. We do have some metal
artists that will be there that will have those and
just just very amazing but unusual creations that can go

(13:21):
in any room that you can think of, because I
can help you place it there.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Remember, Brianna is there to help you.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
Help you spend any personal shots. Let's do that.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Yes, And I got to point out too before you
guys got here, I checked out the Autumn and Art
dot Com website. Man, you got a bunch on there too.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Oh yes, eighty eight artists. Wow, eighty eight artists. And
when I tell you one of the biggest things that
Wichita can be proud of is that we have international artists.
We have people calling us and reaching out to us
from Belgium, we have people from Australia. We have different

(14:02):
people that are wanting to come on board. So that
is the one thing that makes me proud because we
have people wanting to be a part of the festival,
trying to see if they can fit in their schedules
and what they can do to try to get to
our art festival in the center of the United States.
And I can't be more proud than to see that

(14:23):
in the field of Love for which time.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Becoming an international event. We are and that's great.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
I got a name for ourselves, you know.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Year after year it builds and it builds, and I'm
proud of this community. Yes, me too, for reasons like this.
For autumn and art September twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth, Bradley Fair.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Come come, Yes, yes, bring plastic, bring plastic, bring plastic.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
Come sunscreen, bring your kids.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Sunscreen, bring kids. We've got food and drink there.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Yes, we do. That is new this year that we
have not done in a while. This is back in
the day. We have food there. We have food vendors
that are coming so you can absolutely and these are
light bites so you don't have to come and get
a full meal. It's too hot for that. Yes, but
we will have snack booths, we have snack bars. We
have food and vendors like charcuteri stations, sushi stations, different

(15:17):
things like that. We have a wine bar. We have
a central bar that will have Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's
from ten to noon on Saturday and Sunday. We have
a north bar. We have ready to drink type things
that are supplied. Trust me, we are trying to find
every way to keep you at Ottoman Art and more.

(15:40):
Can I keep going?

Speaker 7 (15:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Keep going?

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Yeah? Oh my goodness, let's keep going. We have not
one stage, but we have two stages. So we have
a concert stage and a performance stage where people can
come out, bring their launch airs or blanket and sit
out there by the pond and listen to some amazing music.
And on your way out there to the grass by

(16:03):
the pond, we have your charcuterie stations and your sushi
stations and your wine bar where you can go and
pick up something and sit out there and enjoy yourself.
And I'm not even done. Should I mention that we
have an entire kid zone that includes ka and yes,

(16:25):
we have painting pink piles and Quilliam is going to
be there, and we have other animals that are going
to do artwork and that artwork will be for sale
at Ottoman Art. And we have just game after game.
We have prizes, we have candy, we have so many
things that will just amaze you and your children. We

(16:48):
have Mark Arts that's going to be out there. They
have a whole station that will be able to entertain you.
Name it, we got it. We are trying to think
of everything people would love to see at an al.

Speaker 7 (17:01):

everything you.

self portraits of people that come by her booth and
she's doing that on the spot Wow Live live right
