Welcome to Wichita Weekend, the weeklypublic affairs program from iHeartRadio Wichita ninety seven,
ninety ninety eight, Well O twowon the Bull Channel ninety six three
and Ault one O seven three at. Our guest for this segment of Wichita
Weekend is Teresa when she is astudent at Wichita State and she is a

(00:22):
member of the Sigma Si Zeta sorority. Welcome Teresa to Wichita Weekend. Thank
you so much for having me.It's exciting to have you here because you've
got a very special event coming upon what is it April? It is
on April thirteenth from nine am totwo pm. It is at the University

(00:44):
United Methodist Church and it's called Riisenshine. Riisenshine is a brunch style event where
proceeds are going to Wichita Area SexualAssault Center that helps prevent sexual violence and
also ICC SOOS which is an organizationthat helps prevent sex trafficking. Wow.
Okay, so very worthy causes andvery top of mind issues right now,

(01:10):
that that you can help out justby coming out to the Rise and Shine
brunch. And it is April thirteenth, and that's a Saturday. Yes,
okay, Saturday nine to two atUniversity Methodist Church? Is that at twenty
first in Oliver? Where's University Methodist? All I know is it's across campus,
So IFBC student might as well comeand there you go. So if

(01:33):
you're going to Wichita State, youprobably have walked by it. It's probably
right across twenty first Street. Ibet north of campus is my guest University
Methodist. So okay, just toget my mind oriented to that. So
okay. So the Rise and ShineBrunch Saturday, April thirteenth, nine am
to two pm University Methodist. Whatkind of things do you have on the

(01:57):
menu? Do you know? Yeah, we have bacon, sausage, eggs,
fruit, and pancakes. In additionto having a delicious meal, we
will also be hosting a couple ofraffle baskets in case anyone wanted to buy
some tickets. We have quite abit of donations this year, so come
on out and see what we have. So some Maria businesses have donated these

(02:17):
prize baskets, so yes, you'vegot all kinds of really cool things to
possibly win. Come out and buya raffle ticket. Proceeds go into two
great causes for the Rise and Shinebrunch that's happening on Saturday, April thirteenth.
Teresa, how did you get involvedwith Sigma Size Zeta. You decided

(02:40):
to join when you enrolled it,which Sauce State tell us your story there.
Yeah, thank you so much forthat question. My high school experience
wasn't the best in terms of community, okay, So I really looked for
a place where I can find peoplethat genuinely support me, genuinely find interest

(03:02):
in me, and so Sigma Sietahad already been on my mind prior to
attending college, just because of mutualsI knew and I was introduced. I
was introduced to them and they weregreat people. So I decided to come
out to recruitment. We got toknow them a little bit more on a

(03:23):
personal level, and I joined andit has been amazing ever since. Now,
is community service kind of one ofthe main focuses of interest for Sigma
Size Aida. Yeah, So communityservice is actually one of our values,
and so we try to dedicate alot of our time towards giving back to

(03:43):
the community. In addition to thatis our philanthropy, which is kind of
what we're known for. So ourphilanthropy is to combat violence against women X
through varied forms, and how wedo that is we come out to certain
educational events. We also try tovolunteer at certain shelters, and if that's

(04:06):
not something that we are able todo at the time, donations are always
a possibility. Okay. So wouldyou say that that your sorority is active
on this just about every day you'vegot something going on that's got community focus.
Oh yeah, that's like one ofmy main enjoyments of being in this

(04:28):
sorority is being involved. Again.High school wasn't as involved for me sure,
and so this big turnaround has mademy life so much better. I
love giving back to the community.I love being around people and helping them
as much as I can. Wow. So do you see yourself, maybe
somewhere on down in the great futurefuture ahead of us, maybe getting involved

(04:51):
in something with the community focus, maybe public affairs or no profit work or
something like that. You see thatmaybe as something in your future, I
would hope. So I'm not surehow like out there in the community I
would be, just because I'm nottoo knowledgeable about it. I would say

(05:13):
I'm more involved on campus, gotcha? I recently apply to be an exec
member of Community Service Board, whichis a volunteering club basically, and I'm
hoping I get in just because thecause to give back to the community is
so like valued in my heart.I just want to be out there a
little bit. Wow, Okay, that's excellent. I can tell you've got

(05:36):
a great heart for what you're doing. So do you find that this involvement
makes your student experience that much betterand vice versa. The student experience that
you've got at wich Do State rightnow kind of informs you better on what
you need to do community wise.Oh yeah, definitely. I think my
community and my school life run handin hand. Yeah. I think if

(06:01):
I hadn't met the people I don'tthink if I met the people I had
already met, then my school lifewould not be the same. There you
go, there you go. Well, it's so exciting to hear about what
you're doing there, and I'm alwaysthrilled to meet excited and involved college students.
I think it's really good. AndI look back on my college career

(06:23):
going man, I should have donethis or that, and I wish I'd
gotten more involved. And when Isee folks that are making college more than
just a gotta go experience. Youknow, this is an expectation that I
go ahead, and I mean youreally dig in and get involved and get
out there and meet people and dowhat you should do to make life better

(06:46):
as a citizen. Right. So, in case you just joined us,
our guest is Teresa when she's aWichita State freshman. What's your major?
My major is health management, Okay, And we talked a little earlier that
you're maybe you're not quite sure ifyou're going to stick with that, or
you might shift majors at some point, right, Yeah, So my involvement

(07:11):
in school has opened my eyes tomore of the business side of things,
and so I find it very veryinteresting. I'm not sure if a switch
in my major will happen anytime soon, but it has been on my mind.
I do want to possibly intern somewhereto see whether or not that switch

(07:32):
will happen. You know what,it's it's awesome to hear a freshman say
that. So you've got to you'vegot a long range plan or you're developing
a long range plan as you go, And I think that's that's brilliant.
You know, more power to youkeep up the good work. Whatever you
decide to focus on or make yourmajor, I can tell you're going to

(07:54):
do good things. Thank you.Alrighty one more time before we take a
quick break, Let's fill them inon what's going on with the Riise and
Shine brunch. Yeah. Riisein Shineis a brunch style of event hosted by
Sigma Sizeta. This is actually oursecond year doing it. It will be
hosted on April thirteenth, which isa Saturday, from nine am to two

(08:16):
pm at University United Methodist Church. We will be having bacon, sausage,
eggs, fruit, and pancakes inaddition to having a few raffle baskets with
very valuable things. So come onout, have a great breakfast, meet
some really fun people like Teresa. Are you going to be there? Teresa?
Oh, definitely, I will bethere, all right. And are

(08:37):
you going to be one of theservers? What are you going to be
do? Just kind of walking? Are you going to be riding around in
a golf cart pointing your fingers tellingpeople what to do? I wish,
but I will be serving food orif I will be serving food. If
not, then I will likely berecording for content all right, okay,
well, best of luck for afantas has to Covent on April thirteenth.
