The table topping Tactix believe they've combated the possibility of fatigue being a factor in this afternoon's ANZ Premiership clash with the Southern Steel in Invercargill.

They're coming off a six-day turn-around from their extra time triumph over the Pulse.

Coach Marianne Delaney-Hoshek says they gave her players the beginning of the week off.

D'Arcy caught up with midcourter Kimiora Poi to preview the clash.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News talks'd.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Be Ainzeed Premiership. That is the feature of the next
five minutes or so. We're joined by Tactics captain Kimmy
point Our looking ahead to a game against the Southern
Steel and I suppose on paper, Kimmy, this should be
an easy win, but that's probably not the case when
it comes to the two franchises, both South Island Cruise.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Yeah, I guess we've just got that South Islan rivalry
and we're heading down to their home fortress in the
Vicargo Iolt Stadium and it's always massive atmosphere there. Their
fans are real loyal and loud, and yeah, every time
we come up against the skirl still it's just like
a hard match.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Let's go back to last week if you must. That
was tight. That really was. In fact, it wasn't for
the outrageous form Valley Bird, you guys would have got
only your second loss of the year. Why did you
pick out of that carcass.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
I guess that kind of just showed that we could
ride out the low. Obviously, we lost the first quarter
by five, and we just kind of hung in the game,
hung in the game. They may have done us a
little favorite in the last minute of the game and
played the ball around and then eventually lost it, But
we came out to play in that extra time and
I think, yeah, our crowd got behind us and it

(01:21):
just really got us over the line.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
You've got a couple over the line throughout what you've
lost one throughout the year. But if there's been a
couple of tight fixtures, I suppose the strength that gives
you all to know that even in very dodgy situations
you can still pull forward. That's it's a great lesson
for all of you. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Yeah, I think it's something that in the past, when
we've been down, we've gone down, down, down, But I
think this year, if we've been down, we haven't panicked.
Then we've kind of known that we've done the training,
we're back ourselves, We've got the strength, and we just
keep committed to our game plan and we're able to
get ourselves out of that little rut and come through
at the end.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Tell us about success so farther see, like you haven't
won anything, right, we're onning in around eleven. Let's not
get too excited, But looking back at what you've achieved
so far as a group, can you pinpoint any particular
area where maybe things have worked particularly well.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Not really, I can't actually pinpoint a specific area of
the court. I think our strength is our collective and
everybody just kind of doing their own role, their own
job on the court, and so everybody doesn't have to
worry about other people and what they're doing. So, yeah,
everybody's strength as a collective, our benches coming on and
just adding that impact. Yeah, and yeah, we're just kind

(02:35):
of gelling at the moment, and we're just obviously we've
got five more games of the regular season and we
just need to keep on going.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Keimmy, you've always got to focus on everyone else. That's
the captain's role. Does it make it easy if you
knowing you don't have to have eyes all over your
head and you can actually trust your players, or do
you still feel you've got to get in there and
provide some kind of support or impetus or maybe poking
the ribs. No?

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Actually, and when I'm playing, I kind of just focus
on myself really obviously connecting in with people, but I
just trust that my teammates around me are doing their job. Obviously,
if there is a little bit of a lula or
something that add a little bit more voice and connection
in there. But yeah, at the moment, everybody is doing
their job correctly, and I think we've got leaders throughout
the quarter as well. We've got a very experienced the

(03:18):
thing to be in and then in our shooting circle
and attacking in there's Aliburn Pi er Kana have been
around for ages as well, so everybody is kind of
a leader in their own way.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
The way you've described it, you shouldn't lose, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
We shouldn't really, but we've got to. Yeah, I guess
find ways that when we are down to pick ourselves
back up, and then when we're up to really forge
your head so that we can get better.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Goldiscs always too early to look ahead to the final,
but you will be looking to try and secure that
top position to make an easier room. Is that a
tickle on the front of your mind knowing that that's
ideally your target initially?

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Yeah, I think that's what we're playing for now, playing
to win and playing to get that home final. If
we have it in christ Church and we're there, obviously
it's going to be a massive help for us having
our crowd behind us. We had an almost sold out
game last week. So if we can get a crowd
like that behind us and in that home final, yeah,
we'll be putting ourselves in a better position.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
How important is this for the strength of not New
Zealand netball, but for netball in the region, for Canterbury. Look,
I know, coming from down there myself looking at the
netball courts back in the day by my cricket ground
absolutely packed. Is it still very vibrant down there at
that level, Kimmy, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Think it is. They've actually just recently opened up the
new indoor facility at narp and Way as opposed to
Hagley Courts, so always has been in the past Hagley
Courts vibrant airs on a weekend on Saturday mornings. But
yet now it's moved to narp and Way and yeah,
still the same sort of vibe there, Keimy.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
For what about the state of your players? Is everyone
ready to rock? Are you nursing any any major injuries?
Anyone out for the count? What are we looking at here?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Ah? No, we h yeah, We've got full yeah, full
team roster at the moment, Elia's coming back into the
fold of it, and she's increasing her time minutes. But yeah,
everybody else is ready to go.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
That's got to be a key part, doesn't it. Surely
the successive had the ability to pack the same players
and have some kind of consistency in your structure.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Yeah. I think that's been huge for us, having player
availability not just in the game, but throughout training throughout
the week, so that we're able to get some good
connections going, get some good training under our belt, and yeah,
when it comes to the game, I feel like everybody's
just in a good place, ready to take the game.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
And looking at the players who don't get the starting
bibs that are still very prevalent, who do you think
is really chasing players down and really forcing the hand
of coach.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Oh, yeah, it's a tough one. So everybody is really
competing at training, so anybody can have the opportunity to start.
So I guess it's just whoever puts their hand up
in training and then when they get the opportunity on
the court, see what they do when they get out there.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
So no favorites being played, No, I.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Don't think so. I don't think there's in the fact.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
That's what I'd like to hear. Four o'clock send to
pass this afternoon down at the Well. It's a scary
old place to play netball, isn't it? Scary old place
to play anything without south and crowd. They are absolutely passionate.
So let's hope from your point of view you can
get the job done. And if I'm from a Southlands
point of view, they're going to look to topple the
giants of the competition. kN you thanks for your time.

(06:27):
As always, that's all right, thank.
