Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk Z'B.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Let's move now our attention to Jim Dolan from Australia. Jim, welcome,
as per. I love the consistency of our chats and
something I time checked my week with how are you consistency?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
That's something I'd ever thought they'd talk about with you
and I discussing things okay.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Well as FoST timing wise, but nothing else right. We'll
take that. So you want to have a yarn about
origin and the changing face of the NRL?

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Is it really we're just in that six week period
where it's sort of the artificial leveler. The top teams
are without their players, so they're sort of held back
from splitting away from the competition, keeping the top eight
dream well at bottom half of the top eight dreams
of life for a number of teams and other teams

(00:59):
ruining the missed superstars as we would have seen last night.
We've spoken of there with Clay about the game thirty
to twenty four from two coaches who have built long
reputations on defense. We all love the thrilling finish thirty
to twenty four with the Dolphins a chance to sneak aime.
But I'm pretty sure that mister Bellamie and mister Bennett

(01:19):
and the coach's box wouldn't have been too happy about
the number of points, especially the number of points being
scored from long range. So I'd imagine they'll be counting
down the days till origins over and they can rest
their superstars and get back into it. And of course
the newspapers in the northern half of Australia is dominated
with date of origin stories. Out of the Sydney media,

(01:41):
it's full of reasons why they'll square the series in Melbourne,
so key some of the thing, some of the bows
they're pulling out now, just beyond belief, almost while in
Queensland confident of a strong Maron's performance, but remembering there's
still Game three at home. So it's just that sort

(02:03):
of period where unless they try and get invested in
the nurl in state of origin, which is by the way,
getting a little bit harder due to the lack of
access to the players, because the coaches are trying to
get him focus on the game and the media just
going oh, we love this, we just want more and more,
so I think that's the battle that's going to continue
for some time. If Queensland win Game two, I'm interested

(02:25):
what they can come up with for Game three, apart
from the old we want to sweep this or we
want to avoid the clean sweep.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
I'm still ruminating over that concept of two of those
super coaches in the form of Balamy and Bennett being
angry or upset.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Of course they are. That's the way they roll.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Doesn't matter what happens, They're always going to be like that,
aren't they.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, And if you saw the commentary last night, I
was watching the Free to Wear coverage with Cameron Smith
in the commentary box and he laughed, genuinely outlay out
every time they put the camera on Craig Bellamy, who
wasn't happy with the miss tackles. I'd imagine he was
reminiscing what might happen to some of the boys on
Monday mornings after a performance like that.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Wallaby's first squad of the year is out. We're vaguely
interested because there's a former Crusader, former Blue, former All
Black who's made the great ah yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Well at the Gold Coast for a wedding where there
was a large KeyWe contingent who are very interested in
getting home today because they want to watch the Chiefs
win the Super Rugby final. But they also wanted to
talk about Joe Smith because they believe it could be
the man that turns around the Wallabies. And I said, well,
I thought that about Robbie Deans and then Dave Rennie,
so we will see if Joe Smith has got some

(03:38):
different sort of motivation to get the Wallabies together. Thirteen
new faces in there and a very familiar old one,
thirty five year old Curtly bal Now. Schmid said, Beal
showed in Super Rugby the few games is available for
that he can still light up and attack, so I'm
not sure how he's going to be using, but you
can bet he'll be some sort of impact role there.

(03:59):
Now the quick camp is easy to do because well
Super rugby's over for the Australian players and they don't
want to play club rugby this weekend. And the other
interesting thing from Schmid talking about the Wallaby is Phil Ware,
the AAU boss says there will be no early releases
to the NRL, where Joe Smith says he's open to
early releases for Carter Gordon and Mark Nulonga wazy. Gordon

(04:22):
could join the Titans now if Schmidt, who said he
doesn't want either of them in his squad, whereas Mark
is off to the roosters. He is still hoping to
be picked for the rugby sevens Olympic team and could
find out next week if he's not in that he
could be a rooster by July.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, I did not pick him today. Worries have got
the Titans in a few hours time. We don't want them.
There's a been much media coverage over this selection, over
the fact that maybe yet another dawning of a new
era for Ossie rugby and.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
This week it's been another rugby Another potential Wallaby has
been lost to the game with the amount of people
going to play overseas or looking at the squashing to
the NRL. But you talk about the Warriors today, Yeah, no,
Mitch Barnett eight eighth man four the new South Wales
team this week. But I think Dws's going to be

(05:15):
a big loss because he's such an influential player as
probably the most influential winger in the competition when it
comes to getting his troops going.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yeah, I just hope they kind of stand up after
putting some good scores on at the start of the game,
not like what happened last week. But enough of that mess,
let's move on to the last thing. He's getting sacked
now in the NRL was next.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Yeah, well that always happening, and one of the most
recently sacked people. Brad Arthur could be back coaching by
the end of the month. Parramatta's longest serving coach we
know is sacked the day before he turned fifty. Now
he's among the front runners to coach the Leeds Rhinos
after Roan Smith parted ways. And you love the reason

(05:56):
that Brad uper obviously likes a good defensive team and
as a no nonsense coach, But apparently the way he
took his sacking without any public vitriol or woe with
me comments, that's apparently made him more attractive as a
potential coach. So if you be sacked like a man,
as they'd say in the classic, all of a sudden,

(06:17):
you're very attractive. You're very attractive.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
So when we actually drop kick you, we know you're
not going to complain too much. We've got that sort
of out. We know the end is near or nigh
and you'll be cool with it. That's great logic, that is,
isn't it.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Imagine having to put that in your resume. I can
take being sacked very well.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Well, I couldn't because I'd be lying. But I don't
remember the last time I sacked, to be fair, so
let's not hurry that along. It's a bad idea, Jim Darlin,
thanks very much for your time, mate. You enjoy your
wedding and we'll catch up beginning next weekend.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Go well.
