Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk s'b Ainzed Championship.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Netball is our focus now. It is the final round
and the jostling for the top spot. Well it's on Monday,
a couple of days from now, and the two key
teams in the competition are fighting it out. It's a
home game for the Pulse, so the Tactics are traveling up.
We're joined now by Amri and diny Hoshik's the head
coach of the Tactics. Great season so far, but it
(00:36):
doesn't really count for anything if you don't come away
with the chocolates, does it?
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Marian?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
So how do you focus on this game? How do
you put all of your attention to that knowing is
more to come?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yeah, I mean that has essentially been the focus really
is just focusing on this game in particular. There's been
all sort of fits, some pieces in the background. If
you win this, win that, but we actually just sat
down and said, let's not think about that. Let's just
focus on this game in this time and winning it.
So that's certainly the focus is just that one game
(01:06):
at a time.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Is that an easy enough coach, because all athletes, all
coaches say that they're absolutely demanding that you focus on
what you've got coming up in front of you. But
for what minds to wander, I'm presuming it's only natural.
So do you have any method or tactic excuse the
pun to actually deal with that.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yeah. We actually sort of sat down in a circle
the ovenight and just said this is the circle, and
we're only thinking about this team and about this game
and that sort of thing. So we did try something
a little bit different, But yeah, and I think it's
about as a coach, making sure that you're only really talking,
(01:43):
you know, about the present and this team and there's
no other talk. So that's what we try and do.
I think it's natural. Like obviously it's kind of like
finals netwil now, so there's a little bit of that
excitement and we're certainly getting that intent and training, so
you know, girls are really up for it and it's
really physical and it's really coming through in that sense.
But actually, yeah, take one game at a time.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I don't think that Netwi wen Zeg could have planned
this much better? Could they? Last game of the regular season,
last game around fifteen two top teams fighting it out
for home spot at the top, and mean, this is
written in the stars, isn't it, Marianne.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Oh, absolutely, And we kind of even at the end
of that round one we should have thought, I wonder
if that would be the case whether that last game,
because we sort of saw at that point that we
were playing the Pulse in that last game. And it's
been like that for us a few times. Last year.
We had to go away for that last weekend and
(02:43):
we were sort of we played the Pulse at home
and then we had to play the Mystics up and
Awland and it all came down to those games where
we made the playoffs, but we had to rely on
other results. So the beauty of it this time we've
actually played really good netball and we have been the
masters of our own destiny really and this is just
(03:05):
another step towards you know, you know, we'd love to
get that home final here in christ Church. We've got
a final here, which is fantastic regardless, but we prefer
it to be the actual final other than the eliminator.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
How much of how much important do you place in
the leader the build up? Because last week both teams
last didn't they and when you look at the results
of recent times, you probably haven't covered yourself in glory.
How much does that plan to what may happen on
Monday night, do you think?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
I think that particular game, yeah, we made a few
more errors than we'd probably like to make, and I
think it's been quite good. And Magic really brought it
to us because they are in that desperate position where
they have to win to stay in Whereas I guess
that kind of mindset, you know, possibly you know, whether
(03:58):
or not you like to think of it, you start
questioning were we really that on for that game as
we should have been, because they definitely were. And I've
never actually seen a shooting display like I saw from
what the Magic did with Ameliorana Savior in that circle.
It was I was actually clasping it. It was brilliant.
They shot from everywhere. But that's really unusual thing to happen,
(04:21):
and that's what sort of that desperation brings out those performances.
So every game is going to have elements of that
in it, so people are going to get up and
I think it kind of in some ways means, you know,
a call could have gone the other way, and we
would have won that game. But actually I think it
puts us in a good position because we've really get
to put ourselves this week and yeah, it was a
(04:45):
nice physical game which leads well into this week too.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Tod, how similar are the two teams some last time
you met, well two thirds way through the competition you
managed to get the when over the Pulse. Any many
similarities in the lineups?
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Do you think it's going to be slightly different because
they've got players coming back in, so who've just come
back in. They've got Amelia Warmsley and Maddie Gordon coming
back in. But you know, like is that more tricky
to try and put everyone in different things? I don't know.
That could provide some challenges. But also yeah, like we
(05:20):
have to sack that into our planning as well. So yeah,
you know, teams are slightly different. We've never had a
LEA and the other games either, so that's slightly different
for us, but it's another outment for us. But yeah,
so I think obviously similar, but with yeah, we're slightly
different as well.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Both teams looking to peak before the finals. Take is
taking on the Pulse Monday evening Tespa Arena and Wellington
seven thirty is the center pass head coach maround Doni Hoshik.
We thank you very much for your time, wishing you
the best of luck for that game on Monday, and
also a fair dollar of skill, talent, application and the
light too, because like's not everything right.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Absolutely.
