Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Sales NBL is reaching the very pointed end, the razor's
edge of the competition, and we're joined now by Taranaki
airs player Drone Okawa. Daron. Always good to chat, my friend.
Pretty big big game coming up tomorrow when it takes
all up against the Rams, the defending champions. This has
(00:32):
got a bit about it, right.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Oh man, Look, we're just happy to be in the
semis as well. Big game obviously, and you know the
boys are phizing to sort of get down there and
sort of go into that freezing cole Cal Stadium and
hopefully he brofle some feathers.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yeah, okay, fine, So you're endearing yourself to the locals
already by basically stating the truth. It's a hell of
a gym to play, it, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
It's all good. Yeah, it's nice gym there.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
That's good, And I'll have a fierce crowd of course,
will be backing there boys who did something astonishing last
time around, my first time in three decades actually, so
the energy would be palpable.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Yeah, yeah, I mean they're going in sort of back
to back.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
I mean, you know, they've won it last year.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
This is what they're looking for, So you know, that's
sort of up to us to sort of go in there,
try and shut it down beas we can.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
So as far as you crew, where are you coming
from as far as your energy leading up to this,
because you've just dismissed the Giants, but you did then
well twice on the bounce last game of the season
and then the first game of the playoffs. Is that
good for you guys?
Speaker 4 (01:37):
As a team? Oh, it sort of worked out well.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
I mean that first game we played, the last game
of the season sort of helped us realize how.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
We should play.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
And we're still coming into that new sort of mold
of a team since Big Frolling left us. So you know,
two games and three days was nice. Just get our
feet running and figure out on your style.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Big Frolling nice guy. Managed to talk him on to
the I had him on the show a few weeks back.
He was super cool. So he'll be missed.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yeah, yeah, he'll be missed, but I'm good luck. You know,
we've boys have been keeping up with them and watching
them over there with the Indiana Paces.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
So yeah, obviously you had to chase that missing them though.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
So no, big Sam. What about within the team that
playing now, where are your strengths do you think their own? Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:19):
I think we're just changed into a running team.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Push the pace, heaps of you know, sort of advancing
that ball up the court nice and fast. You sort
of push Karl in to the four, and Quinton Bailey
comes in at that five spot, so a lot more
a lot more pace and sort of get Carlin Dunhill.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Have you got the size required?
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Oh, obviously we lose some and fodder, but yeah, we're
sort of making it up in other areas. We have
a few game plans going into this one that we
have up our sleeves, so yeah, we'll test those out
and hopefully they come through.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Do you think that throughout the length of the season,
you're starting to build a reasonably formidable team. You're starting
to learn about each other. Being a youngest team, you're
starting to get that unit in place.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
I mean that's what you want to do. A build
blocks the season and hopefully it all sort of comes
together at the end, which we I think we have done.
It's already a very tight knit team. Everyone gets along
and so when a change needs to be made, no
one sort of battles back or argues that we just
go with the flow and it works out for the
benefit of the Team's your strength.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Who do you look at as a singular player and
go you maind up being the leader of the site
an answer team game. I get that, But it's always
individuals out there? Are you him? Oh?
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Look, I mean all of us sort of look towards
Mitch mccairn. He's sort of the leader of this team,
aldest follow on the team, and that holds down that
point guard role. But you know, if there's someone who
has to come out and bring it all night every night,
it's Karlin where we all look to Carlen Davidson, and
I mean he's stepped up this season as a young
buck twenty years old still and sort of delivered.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
And the competition itself sells NBL all sorts of new
concepts and ideas over the last few years. As far
as the competition goes from strength to strength, do you
think it's actually building?
Speaker 4 (04:08):
I do.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Look the Rapid League nothing but great feedback all year
from everyone who was a part of it or got
to watch and tune in great for the developing New
Zealand talent that's coming through the league itself. You know,
another team joined this year with the FI and look,
everything's been sweet.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
The travel has been sweet. You know, all the teams.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Are still getting better and the imports are still very
great in this league.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
And still a quality product. And hopefully people can bounce
on to that. That's a terrible pun. I'll never do
it again. Come col Stadium on Sunday three o'clock. That
is tip off as two teams fight for the right
to play in the final. Infending champion Rams up against
the Taranaki is dar Own. Thanks so much for your time.
(04:51):
As always, Mount you go well Jeers Dusk.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
Thanks Bro.
