Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldegrave from Newstalk.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
ZEDB Cody Taylor with us or Coddy, how's the few
days been since obviously Saturday night and the lost to
Argentina in camp?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Oh, it's been, honest.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
I think we talked around it pretty early on on
Sunday around having a real good look at ourselves individually
and then also as a team right across the board,
with management coaches included, and I think that's a great
place to start. You know, we didn't get the results,
so it probably means we didn't get our week right
and we look to rectify that this week.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Is that only something you can sort of sit in
retrospect that maybe the week last week was not quite
right or do you feel it at the time you.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Don't like is at the time you feel like you're
covering everything that yeah should be. I think, you know,
we had a strong enough game plan the way we
wanted to play it, and Argentina just did a really
great job.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
They've done the homework and put us under pressure and
c parts.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Of the game like kicking out of our own half,
and that's where we cost ourselves I think in the end,
how much.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Do you have to just be patient? I guess suppose
as a team and wait for those opportunities to present
themselves and exit the twenty two or build pressure up
the part.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
I think at this level, you know, it's all about
creating pressure on the opposition, and Argie did that. And
when you're sort of absorbing that, you need to be
in control. And at times we weren't, and that was
right you, like I said, right across the board, not
one particular thing. I think we felt a little bit,
got a bit reckless at times, and then when we
did that, that's when we let in, you know, three
(01:42):
points or a try.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
So a bit a chat this week the phrase I
think stacking moments and you can build pressure that way,
because it felt like on the weekend, you score a try,
they'd score one, and you score points. You know, so
how important is that, you know, building momentum, consolidating tries,
phen all they goes, whatever.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
It might be, it's a massive like I said in
test foty, that's what it's all about. And that's how
you get ondominance and momentum and how quickly you can
lose as well.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
I think.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
One thing we've talked around has been really clear, once
you know we do score points, being really clear of
what the next.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Job is and how we'll now that.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
And so that's one thing we're trying to work on
this week and real clear with our messaging so that
we can just go out there and do it.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah, did you get a scrumming on the weekend?
Speaker 3 (02:25):
I had a couple of yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Yeah, it's another area that you know, we wanted to
assert some dominance but didn't get what we wanted.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
And yeah, that frustrated us.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Because you've used that as a weapon in the England
games especially, and use it to get down the right
areas of the field. There was just no opportunity to
do that on the weekend. Was it quite bizarre being
part of that no scrums the first hour?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Yeah, at the time, I didn't really think much about it,
but looking back, you're like, jeez, you know, you're two
starting props go off and they hadn't even had a scrum.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
You know, it's one thing that they're on the field
to do, so yeah, it could be different.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
You know, in the game, we sort of there were
moments where we could have had scrums, but the Vanas
was over because we either kicked it away and let
the pressure off. So yeah, they might be different this week.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Big game Eden Park obviously get unbeaten record gets brought
up every time you play there, but how important is
that record to this team and you know or do
you just focus on getting the win that you know
gets Argentina this week?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Ah?
Speaker 4 (03:19):
You know it's sort of come up in conversation of late,
hasn't it, And I think you know, we don't talk
about it, but it's something that's there. You know where
we consider Eden Park, you know, the place you want
to play in New Zealand and it's a special place
where our fans love to come. So the main thing
is this week is that we do a job against
(03:40):
Argentina and we front up because yeah, we didn't in Wellington.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
So yeah twenty twenty two. Obviously you lost in christ
Due and then came out and rolled them in Hamilton.
But do you have to sort of you know, not
play the game before it happens and think that this
will just automatically be the response.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Yeah, Like we're talking around building the week and our
intensity within it, because you know, there's there was a
level of frustration and you want to do right for
the black Tuesday, but that's not done on Monday or Tuesday.
It's built throughout the week and how we can get
better and we'll slowly build that throughout.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Augustine Creevy thirty nine years of age opposite you on
the weekend or came off the bench, just give me
a better inspiration to keep playing right through to that
sort of age.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
I don't know if I'm about to go to thirty nine.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
But he's a good bloke man off the field, you know,
he heart and soul of their team at one point
and to see him come back I think gave them
a lot of energy and hey, you know, if you
can get called back into Test footy and do what
he did, it's pretty special.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
It's one of us onally as well. About Pablo Matereta,
obviously play with him the Crusaders for a bit. What's
he like playing against and with is it? What's the
difference between the two?
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Yeah, I know him quite well. He's a man that
gives everything on the field and no matter what jersey,
but for some reason when he's wearing that build and
white one, it seems to step up a bit more
and you know, Argentinians are very passionate about their country.
I'm not saying we aren't, but they just showed a
bit more and he he showed it through his actions
and it's something that he'll want to do again this weekend,
(05:10):
which we'll have to try and stop like Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
