Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Wildergrave from News TALKS'B.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Let's get Jim Dolan now over in a Australia and
play me.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
There is a.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Singular focus for sport in the lucky country this weekend
and it lies worth twenty six brutal humans to start with. Anyway,
it is the NRL Grand Final. Baby, Hey, Jim Dolan,
how are you doing?
Speaker 3 (00:31):
My friend? Good a Darcy very excited and Penrith is
the first team ever to wear pink in a Grand
Final decider in more than one hundred years in Australia.
It will be a shock to the system. That will
be fantastic.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, I don't know pinksbur blase, but I'm trying to
get my words out and I can't just do early.
But a lot of the things we're pink now, it's like,
you know whatever I mean?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Now?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Are the pink Panthers? Okay?
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Well, given the sponsored by a flavored milk company, I
prefer to call it the strawberry Jersey.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Have very much of you, Jim favorite one.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Look, I think Melbourne's not without a chance, but the
Panthers driven by the chance of history in four strate premierships.
They're going to be really hard to beat, especially with
no big Nelson for the Melbourne side suspended and goes
down and gets an extra one for daring to go
to the judiciary. So obviously the man in the hot
(01:31):
seat will be Nathan Cleary with his shoulder that could
pop out at any moment, and he won't be taking
a back seat if He'll be getting involved as much
as possible. And a story today saying that Nathan Cleary
has revealed that a decade ago, the Storm approached him
about the opportunity to play there. He declined, which we
all know and that eventually led to Jerome Hughes the
(01:53):
Dallian Medalists switching from fallback to half back and head
to head battle tomorrow will be one of the big
ones that I'd imagine we'll take a big pikes in
deciding who wins the game.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I'm absolutely barracking for the Penwrith Panthers. But if you
go spine the spine, haven't Melbourne got the upper hand there?
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, but there's a lot of big blokes who will
protect that spine pretty well and that could determine it.
So I'm just really looking forward to hopefully a very
close and classic Grand Final.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Indeed, and I wonder if the Kiwi soren soon is
going to get through because I think they're a bit
touch and go about the second roller giving him to
the last moment.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Yeah, that hamstring. He had to train yesterday and he
has to train again today. They're behind closed doors now,
so I'd imagine either way the Panthers won't let us
know until an hour before kickoff tomorrow night unless they
really him out today, But then there could be monkey business.
It's just part of the intrigue of a Grand Final.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Indeed, it is was od Make going to walk around
doing some kind of like chat and all gold about
what's going on, and they got rid of hing because
he's two biased.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Yeah, I think the changing of the guard. They want
the younger guys to get there, and sometimes I think
you could do it so an old sage head. And well,
there's not too many teams Gus hasn't been involved with now,
so if you start doing that, you won't be able
to talk on any game.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Let's walk away from that walk toward the supercars, a
competition that maybe hasn't quite got the traction in his
zeal used to head because there's no longer a key
with dominating it. So we've backed as sad what's happening
over there.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I think it's got a bit that way for everyone
that were sent as the forward and holding thing went out.
That turned off a lot of the casual viewers. But
now we've got back this next week of course, which
everyone still loves to sit down and watch the supercar
drivers being explained the changes for next year to the format,
and I don't like that they're going to try and
(03:54):
manufacture of finish NASCAR style to the year and reboot
the drivers championship so that the last three rounds are
like a final series where only the top ten drivers
will have a chance to win and a couple will
drop out every week, and yeah that there could then
be wild cards for the winner of the Duro series
at wild cards for the winner of the Sprint Series.
(04:16):
And it's all because of said keyw Scott McLaughlin and
Shane van Gisberg. And had they not been so dominant
and had the series wound up before the final round,
we wouldn't have to go to these extremely.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Ah, you're blaming us now, Jim you're blaming us. You
know what they need to do at supercars. They need
to stop with the tires saving their fuel saving rubbish
that they get up with. That's why Van Gisbergen left.
It's like, this is not race cars. This is just
trying to maintain our vehicle to get to the end.
There's nothing racing about that. So you copy NASCAR all
(04:49):
you want, but give them all the tires they need,
all the gas they want and let them race. People
might flop that you never.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Know, Jim, Yeah, Oh, there's nothing worse than someone having
a dominant lead in the race and then the good
old safety car comes out and bunches of them back
up for the finish. Here, I prefer to let the
best guy ever win.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Get amongst Soccaroo's what's happening there?
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Well, we know the Graham Arnold here is over after
the might have Bahrain and Indonesia put the Soccer Roofs
World Cup chances on life support. Now Tony Popovich is
in charge, He's named his first Soccer US squad and
interesting already that one of our only English Premier League players,
Massimo l Loongo, he's back. He's going to be in
(05:35):
the squad for the games against China and Japan in
the coming weeks. The thirty two year old midfielder retired
from international duties less than a year ago. Now Graham
Arnold is gone, Luongo is back and looking forward to
putting his best foot forward for his country. So obviously
some bad blood there and we'll see if Poppa can
turn things around instantly, because they've got China on Thursday
(05:58):
night at the Adelaide Oval and then of course a
trip to Japan. It always seems to come down to
World Cups Australia has to beat.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Have you really only got one guy playing in the EPL?
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Wow, I didn't see that one coming. What's happened the
mighty have fallen?
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yeah? Well they're going either going to other leagues and
not getting much of a chance, or we just don't
seem to be producing with superstars we once did.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
And is it because the A League is so strong? Mate?
No one wants to go over there.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
I don't think it helps when they get signed by
a big clubs over season and loaned back to the
A League.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yeah, we've got the same problem here, if you could
call it a problem, mate, Jim always a pleasure. I'm
away next week. I'm actually going over the Lucky Country myself.
So whoever you've got to deal with, good luck with
that one, and we'll hit the road running again in
about two weeks time. Thanks for yours mate.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
I'll alert border officials.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Yeah, I don't. I think my mullet will do that
by itself. I've been told I'm not allowed to shave
a fresh mullet before I go on holiday the Government
of fourteen. Since you'd walk away if I did so,
I'm going to turn up looking normal. Good only Jim
Talk seen eight.
