Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Wildegrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
MPC Semi Finals it's all on at this afternoon. Semi
number one, team past four, Semi number two is what
we're focusing on it now, the way occasions. Why are
taking on Wellington for a right to play in that final?
Quinty Pyre joins us now ahead of a game that's
got so much on it and what's been Let's face it, Quen,
this has been fantastic. MPC must have been brilliant to
(00:35):
be playing and.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Welcome yesers for having me on. Obviously, I'm exciting semi
finals tonight and it's been a hell of a season,
not just for Wykado, but yeah for the whole comp
as a whole.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Like you said, what did you pull out of that
Taranaki victory? I'd like to suggest that you guys know
how to tackle. That's probably the foremost, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, Obviously Taranaki had a great, great attack, so we
had to change little thing, little things on defense for us,
and I think the boys brought a lot of energy
and a lot of effort in in our defensive side
of the game and having the likes of Luke, Jacobson
and Pennybeck was messive for our full pack and I
guess we've got to bring that same energy and accuracy
(01:17):
this week in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Well you've got no Luke and the All Blacks haven't
got to me here have they? Which is crying shame
getting more injuredy you gotta feel. I mean, he checks
himself into anything all the time. You can't understand what
It's a bit fragile, but that's a bit of a blow.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
He's an absolute soldier for us and the Chiefs and
the All Blacks. Yeah, I'm gutted for him. I think
he broke his sum in the first twenty minutes. Maybe
so he's played sixty with a broken thumb for us
and you wouldn't have known watching the game.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
When it comes to lose forward, do you look across
the opposition? No, Peter Luckhive. This is fantastic for him
being called up to Hire honors, but awful for Wellington.
He's been a lynch pin. Is there a wee slight
bit of relief with you fellas?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Yeah, it was like he thoroughly deserves to be in
the All Blacks set up, and I guess it's it's
helpful for us. You know, he's he's massive for that
Wellington side, and it's a it's a massive loss for them,
but a you know, a big game for us.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I guess, Quentin Paye, what do you have to not
do this evening? What do you take out of that
Tanaki game that go we try that on again? We're
in all sorts of trouble. There must be something.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, I think our attack's got to be a lot sharper.
We we pride ourselves on our strikes in our first phase,
so if we can nail that and get them behind
these these Wellings and boys, it's it's going to make
it a whole lot easier for us. And again we
have to tackle our hearts out. They've got some massive
athletes on their side and players that can break open
(02:48):
the game, so defense is going to be massive. But
I guess our attack is something we've we've really worked
on this week and focus from the sun Nucky game.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
And yourself, you'd be pretty happy with the form urin
selecting for the All Black fifteen, which is great. Played
a bit of mighty All Black up against Japan, so
slightly but surely you're rising again. Comfortable with you, with
the state of your play, of your body, everything else.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Quinn, Yeah, my body's week to week getting a little
bit older now and you're.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
In your mid tweeties. Don't give you that.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah, but yeah, I guess it's been good to play
stack a few games now and you know, really comfortable
at twelve at this level and played a little bit
on the wing as well, which has been fun. But yeah,
it's been a bit of up, ups and down year
and yeah, just glad to be in the semi's glad
to have represented the Muli All Blacks and then get
(03:47):
a chance with the All Blacks of thing and with.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
The All Blacks fifteen. Should you when or lose tonight?
Does that effect you will call up time? Are you
going to be disappearing regardless or how does that work out?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
So if we make the final, everyone's available to play.
I think we just joined the team on and fly
out straight away. But yeah, if we make the final,
you were definitely playing.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
It's been a barnstorm and competition so far. It's been
all over the shop. Anyone can beat anyone when it
comes to the way the competition has been played. Cann
You isolate a particular point as to what has made
it so good, so entertaining, not only for the crowd
but the players as well. See a lot of joy
out there. Anything changed the NPC this year?
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Yeah, I think, like you said, anyone can beat anyone
on their day. And for example, you know we we
lost to Harbor, we you know, beating these other teams
that have being each other. So yeah, anyone can beat anyone.
That's an enjoyable comp the ball and play times high
and everyone just has a crack really some games, defense
is optional for some teams and there's a lot of
(04:54):
chie being scored.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
And that's not the case with you coming up the cning.
You're the first thing you're focusing on, isn't it made
shut everybody down? That's the idea. And as far as Wellington,
like mentioned, no lark high. They'll be. They'll be feeling
pretty comfortable about themselves. But as we pointed out, eminently beatable,
aren't they. They are there for the plucking, especially at
home unt.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Yeah, they've they've obviously proven this year that they're the
best team and finishing first is no easy feat. But yeah,
we're quietly confident in our preview of them, and we've
got a great plan both sides of the water. You know,
have a real good crack at these guys we obviously
got we haven't played them this year and we lost
of them in their quarters last year. So no, we're definitely,
(05:39):
you're quietly confident and yeah, we're gonna have a good
crack team.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Past seven tonight. Quintupai get A Monks, thanks very much
for your time.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Get around it, cheers, Thank you very much.
