Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Wildegrave from News Talk ZEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
It's all about cricket now on the All Sport Breakfast.
Has been quite frankly for the last couple of days.
Let's talk now to a man called Bred at Shimouley
and he's playing for Central Districts at home A Park
tomorrow afternoon as the Ford Trophy gets underway. You're taking
on Auckland. I expect you're rather excited about getting out
(00:33):
there again and playing a bit of cricket after what's
been happening the last few.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Days Bread, which is Darcy. You're looking forward to getting
the season underway on Sunday against Auckland. And yet's been
a good couple of days for New Zealand cricket over
in India and Justin looks more excited to get the
season underway. The weather looks gooded at for a curve
park over the weekend, so hoping for a good day out.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Cool way to start Bookie, core A Park. I've never
been lucky enough to actually go there and watch a game,
but it's kind of bucket list in New Zealand cricket
venues to go to. It's a special place to watch,
but to plan is it special? Scary?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I've definitely had two scary moments there. I think I
was twelfth man in a twenty twenty game when Michael
Brace well that's about one hundred and fifty not out
to chase down our total and balls fying absolutely everywhere.
But it's yeah, great place to play the batter use
a good surfa, short boundaries and it's yeah, it's no
place like really in a little I've seen with the
(01:30):
terraces and embankments all around the ground. It's a pretty
special place, and I know one that Central Districts is
proud of to have on their roster of grounds to
be used around the around the region.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Aspirations for the season planning, you start off going right,
we're all equal right now, I'm going to win this thing?
Is that likely? Does Central Stags have a chance of
picking it up in the end.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Definitely a chance. We've probably had a little bit of
a rebuild phase with a few new younger names on
our contract list, which is an exciting in its own right.
But yeah, we've got a good We've still got a
good squad and we won it two years ago, so
who know what it takes to get the job done
in the Ford Trophy and like a Ford Trophy with
the Plunket shield in twenty twenties will be looking to
(02:13):
get silverware in those competitions as well as far as.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
The youth people aren't going to know who they are,
So tell us about somebody you wickon might have a
future or might actually stand up and cause a bit
of trouble for central districts. Who do you like.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Young Toby Findley, who's son of Craig Finley, who has
played the Central Stags in the past. Heavily involved with
Hawksbay Cricket. He's got I think what it takes to
the medium, fast right arm bowler and a hardered invatsment
good athletes suching was a little bit of an injury
at the moment, but he's someone who I think he's
got the okay bellies. I've gone quite fun in the
(02:51):
game if he can get his body right and put
some performances together. And there's a couple of slightly older guys,
Angers Shaw who's been around Hawksbay Cricket for a long
time who's received this first contract. He's an Austiner who
that's in the middle order and as well as Mason
Hughes has been around him one or two traps for
a while and he's got his first contract and he's
a top order left handed batsman. So I know they're
(03:14):
all actually buzzing to be involved with the contracted guys
and hopefully getting some time in the park and putting
some performance performances together.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Brad Schmooley and joins us. What about the old school,
like yourself in the mid thirties, Who are you going
to lean on? Who are the senior statesman out of CD.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yeah, it's a bit of a shopping I am the
oldest guy in the contract list, but yeah, there's still
a great group of senior guys. Tom Bruce, Dane Cleaver,
Will Young when he's back from Black Cats, Dudies definitely
guys that I turned to with the bat and A
J's Bttel as well as being someone that I played
a bit of age group and representative cricket with in Auckland.
(03:53):
We've both obviously made the converted to central districts and
he's someone that I speak to a lot, and he's
obviously a great cricket brain and achieved some pretty amazing
things in the game. So you're still still like good
group of senior guys, but I just happened to be
one of the older ones.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
And as far as your aspirations, see if you set
yourself any goals, are you that kind of cricketer that
has some marks or you just take it as it comes?
Speaker 1 (04:16):
What are you?
Speaker 2 (04:17):
What are you looking to achieve?
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah, I think probably the days of me hoping to
play a high honors and that's probably gone in terms
of playing for New Zealand. But I'm still very determined
to get the best out of myself and I've had
some success in the fifty over and plunk it shield
the last couple of years. So yeah, I just go
into a number on what I'm just trying to achieve
in terms of runs or hundreds or anything like that.
(04:40):
But yeah, just contribute consistently and at the end of it,
if it leads to a trophy for the Central Stag,
that's probably makes it even more memorable.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
A season Get in get a Monk's looking forward to it.
Ford Trophy gets underway tomorrow Northern They're taking on Otago
at Cobbon Oval at the Basin Reserve. It's the Firebirds
hosting at Canterbury and caught a Park Central stag say hi,
all condations and that gets the Ford Trophy Underwegh. And
(05:08):
on that Brad go well, go hard and I'm sorry
about the age comments. I should know better, being as
I'm not exactly a spring chicken mate. You go well, no, thank.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
You very much, appreciate it. Thank you.
