Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Wildegrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Seven nineteen on the All Sport Breakfast. As I saying before,
it's been a crazy old season for Auckland Football Club AKFC,
charging along and we're going to talk about that now
and tomorrow evenings game it's at six pm as Auckland
FC take on MacArthur. Defender Dan Hall joins us. Morning
(00:34):
to your mate.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yeah, good morning, good morning, thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Looking forward to tomorrow would be an understatement. Three from
three with a bit of a break, you'd be paying
to get back on the park, wouldn't you.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Obviously it's an ideal start going three from three on
the bounce, but you know we want to continue that tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
How do you deal with the expectation of that, Because
you've come from a very successful career, you've won two
titles on the bounce with Central Coast, you've got off
to a start like this, You've got to temper your enthusiasm,
I presume. How do you go about that?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Yeah? I think it's a mixture of things.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
I think just not getting complacent and always continuing to
be better. So obviously, you know, our feet are securely
on the ground and we're just working towards that game
against MacArthur and you know, working towards the three points
there and then we'll continue building from there.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
How much do you pull apart MacArthur before you go
and you've had a couple of weeks to set around
twitter your thumbs? Do you spend that time in video?
Do you spend that time? What do you do in
that two weeks? And how do you approach MacArthur?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
So obviously there was the international break, so we haven't
played for a while, but we're in that time. You know,
we were just a few niggles and the team so
getting overcoming those and then just doing a lot of
video on.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Who were coming up against.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
So we you know, we know how to how we
can hurt them and how we'll be successful in the day.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Tell me how you do that? No one's listening.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Basically, we just score more goals than them and can
see less.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Long story short, you've dealt with media before, you know
exactly how it works. The success of the team so far.
Is there a particular point that you can tie it
back to, like the makeup of the coaching staff, the
guys on the park, and please don't say it's because
you scored more goals than the opposition. But where's the
success come from so far? Do you think?
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Personally?
Speaker 4 (02:27):
For me, I think it starts from building a good
team culture. You know, it's a very hard working team,
and I think on the pitch that shows, you know,
we fight for each other and we scrap out games
and we need to. But we can also play good football,
so there's good footballers there as well. So it's a
bit of a combination of everything which at the moment's
jelling really well.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
You'd say, Dan Hall that you'd expected this, but really,
the results so far, considering how quickly the club has
come together, I'm sure still surprises a lot of people around,
even guys close to the team, because this is a
way to start.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Mate.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Yeah, yeah, Look, when I joined, you know, Steve and
Terry they made it pretty obvious that and clear that
we weren't here to make up numbers.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
We wanted to win football games. So I think we're
putting that into motion now.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
But obviously now a lot of other teams, you know,
are putting more respect on our name, so it's a
good thing.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
The ozziest thing. When you signed on the dotted line.
What kind of response did you get from from your
teammates and from the football public and general over there.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, obviously mixed reviews.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
But at the end of the day, you know, it's
just a stepping stone in my career and I always
want to be comfortable being uncomfortable. So it's a new
challenge and I love a challenge. So yeah, it's a
new experience and I'm I'm enjoying it very Much's.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Life under the Long White Cloud treaty? You okay?
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Yeah, no, no, it's it's good man. Yeah, It's been
a pretty easy transition so far. So yeah, no complaints
my end.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
How important is that for you as a professional athlete
you've been involved Central Coast what sex years to actually
have comfort around you and the way you play it
and where you've settled because you've been the same place
for so long? Is that key? Is it intrinsic to
your success?
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Yeah, that's a good question, I think, to be fair,
I was very comfortable where I was at the Central Coast,
and you know, not just as a football but as
a human. It's good to you know, get out of
those comfort zones and push yourself. So I thought, why
not come over across the ditch and you know, starting
your life here and at the moment it's going well,
(04:34):
so hopefully that long may continue.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
You said you want to carry on in your career.
We does it go? Plainly? The A League is not
the end of your line. You're focusing on that here
and now Macarthy are coming up tomorrow evening, but you
need to go further. How does that look to you
in your in your ideal world.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Yeah, obviously, you know, football careers are pretty short, so
you can't you can't look too far into the future
at the moment. I'm just taking it one game at
a time and that starts with MacArthur tomorrow. But you know,
as a football I want to see how far I
can go, and I guess a ceiling on how high
I can go and my performances. So at the moment,
(05:14):
it starts with a good performance tomorrow and then we'll
go from there.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
What about outside of that, you're an agent looking for
you. You can keep one eye kind of vaguely in some
other direction. Surely you can. You must have some hopes.
Is Europe is it Britain. Is it the States? Ideally
where would you like to be? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Ideally for me eventually, you know, I want to try
my luck in Asia. I feel like I'm suited over there,
and yeah, it's just a cool lifestyle choice again, so yeah,
that's that's my long term goal in for the football
world for sure.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
First and foremost, they get it done tomorrow. And just
a word on your teammates, is anyone caring anything? We
should be worrying about how fit is everyone?
Speaker 3 (05:55):
They're all fitter than me. So that's a good thing, man.
So I think we're ready to go.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Please tell me that's not from diet.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
No, no, it's not from diet.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
You know, some people's kivactor systems are better than others.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
I really appreciate your honesty. I'm sure Corriker won't. But
the you go. Dan Hall out of AUCKLANDFC, wishing the
best for Macarthin. Thanks very much for joining us here
on news talks.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Hereb Yeah, no problem, Thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Thanks for having us. What a nice man. Dan Hall
a couple of titles to his credit. Interesting The uctually
wants to go to Asia, not Europe, not England. Go figure, well,
I was honesty. Good work Dan. That's six o'clock tomorrow evening,
Auckland FC taking on MacArthur trying to make it four
(06:45):
from four, Phoenix playing tomorrow afternoon. I think it is
as well, so cool to New Zealand teams in the
A League. Quite bizarre. I like it.
