The women's Super Smash top three have been sorted following a wash-out in the final regular-season match, with Wellington hosting the Northern Brave to determine who faces Otago in the final.

The final men's match has also been abandoned, ensuring the status quo at the top of the table.

The Canterbury Kings will snare third place on run-rate, thereby clashing with the Northern Brave men to earn the right to play the Central Stags in the decider.

Wellington Blaze opening batter Rebecca Burns joined D'Arcy Waldegrave to preview their elimination final.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
SEDB Elimination final action today for the Super Smash our
National T twenty competition. A Northern Braver find themselves both
in the men's and the women's elimination final. It's in
Wellington and we're going to go now to Rebecca Burns
who is playing for Wellington for the Blaze forty. That

(00:32):
game gets underway for the right of course to compete
tomorrow against Otago in the final. Rebecca, good morning, good morning.
Looking forward to the sou afternoon will be an absolute understatement.
You've got your elimination final. It's at twenty to one
up against well a team that you've played just recently,

(00:55):
but it was a no result. Does that mean much?

Speaker 3 (00:59):
That doesn't mean too much really. Obviously we would have
been I love to play the other day and try
to get that first spot, have to play the elimination final,
but the weather didn't play ball with us, so we're
ready to go in the summi today.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
You're particularly good at just dismissing that and looking only forward.
No revision mirror, No, always.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Got to look forward. No, we're just excited to get
underway and hopefully Willington can get a good crowded for us.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
You'd expect so teams playing well, and in yourself as well.
You'd probably rather it was Cantery you are playing. You've
been pulling those girls apart, haven't you.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
I have. I obviously enjoy playing against Canterbury. No, we've
been like enough, playing some good wickets over the last
couple of weeks and I've been fortunate enough to find
the middle of the bet and some of them, which
has been great.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
You've also been partnering at the top of the order
now Sophie's not around to ask about that in a
minute with Amelia cur Meal, he's quite handy. You've got
a box seat watching what he does. How much does
that lift your game?

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Oh? Awesome? Agieloe was merely really well and I've enjoyed
opening the betting with her, and obviously she's a world
class player, obviously after being nominated for the T twenty
and ODI Creator of the Year and winning it. So
it's nice to stand at the other end and watch
her play all around the park.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
How much do you pick your brains when you're actually
out there in the middle I'm sure and training you do.
But you know those little chats in the middle and
the like as well, what do you try and glean
out of her?

Speaker 3 (02:35):
I just asked lots of questions, talk about intent and
when I should be using my phone coming down the wicket,
and to be honest, Inn he approaches me and tells
me what's working good and helps me with my game.
In that sense, we sort of bounce off each other
and try to get get the Blaze off to a
good start together.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Are you good at taking advice?

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:58):
I am. Yeah, Fish, when it comes from her, you
sort of take it all in when you can. I
give her some again too, So tell us ait.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
About your own game and where you're sitting at the moment.
As you said, a bit of a golden streak, couple
of not outs, big ones as well up against our
Canterbury not so good the last couple of games. But
you've been in the runs. Where are you at as
far as the Willow's concerned.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Oh, I'm just honestly, I'm pretty relaxed about it. I
just sort of have to go out there and believe
in myself and my game and try not to overthink things.
I think When I do that, I sort of lose
my shape and doesn't quite work for me. So we've
got some really good coaches and at the moment and

(03:43):
they're really believing in me, and I think that's helping
me with my game and my confidence.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
What is your game? If you could describe it? We're
joined by opening bat for the Blaze, Becky Burns. Tell
us what you do? What is Becky Burns when it
comes to being a cricketer.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
I don't want to say I go out there and
try hit the ball out the part, but I like
to have you take a couple of balls to get
myself in. Then when I see a ball that I
think I got a check, I just really try to
tack them. I just stay still and sort of sea
ball and hit ball, and just keep it as simple

(04:20):
as possible. Honestly, if I try too hard, it goes
out the window.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Wait, most sports like that, right, You strip it all
back towards bare minimum and go from there.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yeah, exactly, You've got to try to keep it as
simple as possible and just back your skills.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
No, Sophie Divine up the top of the order. I
think she's opened a couple of times since she's decided
to sit down. Is that much of a negative effect
on your side, Becky, No, I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
I think it's the best thing for her. She just
needs a bit of a break and we'll obviously all
support her and hopefully things will sort themselves out and
she'll be back on the part soon enough.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
What about future for you? Because you did play I
think it was a couple of tea twenties. Wasn't it
a couple of years back? You still aiming at that
highest level in your career.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
I'll be lying if I wasn't. It's always a goal
of mine. I think I just got to focus on
doing well for the Blaze and see what happens with
higher on it. But yeah, obviously trying to knock on
the door there.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Well, don't knock on it, kick it in, run down
the pitch and slay the ball. That's the way to go.
A quick word on your opposition, the Brave. What can
you tell us about them? Or do you even care
what they bring?

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Uh? To Honest, I literally think too much about it.
We just got there and play our brand of cricket
their good side. I've got a couple of hard heading
betters so I think if we get them the first
couple out early, we should be in the game and
the long order haven't done too much for them to
be honest. So yeah, first couple of quick wits and

(06:07):
we should.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Be good to go, get in there and slam. Rebecca
Becky Burns, thanks so much for joining us here on
news Talk zeb B. Play hard, play well, play fair.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Hey, thanks mate, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Yeah, we appreciate your time. Rebecca Bicky Burns opening bat
for the Warrington Blaze twelve forty Can they get the
job done? Can they roll Northern to get through to

(06:39):
that final against Otago And that final is at twelve
forty tomorrow the Memes finals at four twenty five. Northern
and Canterbury play today at for twenty five for the
right to take on Central Districts in that final tomorrow.
A lot of cricket happening and Wellington get along there.
Take a watch or switch on Telly and watch it

(07:00):
on that.
