Speaker 3 (00:19):
News Talks ed B eight twenty five around the Bays Auckland.
It is happening tomorrow. It does so with alarming regularity.
What a time it is. We're joined now by race
director Henry mcclin and good morning Henry.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Good morning Darcy. Thanks for having me on again.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
I was great to have you here. Public service announcement.
We've got to know about it.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Auckland stops. I mean, we kind of tell people what's
going on. It's only fair and right. So you've got
like it's the com before the storm for you. I'm
presuming gets underway tomorrow. Last minute, What are you up to?

Speaker 4 (00:52):
What are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Eight?

Speaker 5 (00:54):
We are Medley sitting up out at and side how
he is a Meddill's and we're are building up nicely
and looking forward to over twenty seven thousand people coming
down to st tomorrow to pound the payment from the
city all the way back to Salliet's.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Twenty seven thousand.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Does it get any easier to manage that amount of humanity?

Speaker 5 (01:17):
Events like this certainly don't happen without an amazing team
and a volunteer army.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
But you know, this is a fun run, and our
job was just to make sure as.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
Many people have access to events like this and get
across the finish line safely.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
I love the.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Way you say fun run because it does accentuate what
this is. It's not.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
There are some people who take it very seriously, but
a vast majority.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Just want to compete in what is an iconic event.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
Absolutely, this is a pretty sild year for us because
this is the first time that we've had as part
of a series. So we had an event in Wellington
a couple of weeks ago, we're in Auckland tomorrow and
then we're down in christ Church in four weeks time.
And yeah, this is a fun run, mate. We've got
entertainment every four hundred and fifty meters.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
We've got you know, water misters, cheer groups, drumming groups.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
All the way along the course to make sure, you know,
people are moving and grooving and have a great time,
and they're all.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I suppose everything you do it changes. It's important that
you keep uping the anti year to year and what
have you got that maybe run as the last few
years haven't seen before.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah, we're really excited.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
We've invested quite a lot into the competitive mobility category
this year, so we've got nine top wheelchair athletes are
going to be leading the way.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
And then we've certainly upped it from an entertainment's perspective.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
We've got four superscreens at the scar start and now
are linked with big TV screens at the end as
well as some on course which are.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Going to be beaming through right across the network, which
is super exciting.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
We've got, you know, double the amount of entertainment, we've
got double the amount of mcs that are going to
be engaging with people on the course, and so yeah,
we're just really excited. You know, running seems to be
and jogging and walking seems to be growing in New
Zealand and we're all about just trying to get as
many keywis active as possible and do that in in
a fun and exciting way.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
So yeah, we're looking forward to tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Jogging, walking, running and rolling. Let's not forget that key
part of it looks it's a series now and.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
All the series stays the same, doesn't it. They're all
eight and a half k I think each of the
three races.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah, they are were and Wellington.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
We also have the half marathon and we had over
ten thousand people take part two weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
And in christ Uch.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
We're building and the great thing about this event you
know you can still you can still buy a ticket today,
you can still buy a ticket tomorrow. So if people
are sitting on the fence, the weather is looking absolutely beautiful.
We've got an amazing finished area where you can get
a message, you can jump in an ice bath, you
can have some of New Zealand's favorite biscuits and a
cup of tea Graber Graber Greer call and drinks. So yeah,

(03:53):
if you if you're sitting on the fence and your
family's got nothing to do or you.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Want to get involved with you know, as you see
one New Zealand's most.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
Iconic event, there's no better running course than along the
hard I'm getting.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
A big knee operation and about three months and then
possibly another one to fix that one.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
You never know, it might be there next year. Strange
things have happened.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Henry mccleman joins us around the Bay's action Right dos
and don'ts.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
What do you need to tell people about this event?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Arright early?

Speaker 5 (04:21):
You know, our entertainment starts down in Key Street from
eight am. We'll be having public buses that we're putting
on from the event, running from six thirty in the
morning from Vallinov Koreen back to the start line from
six thirty to eight. You know, come with a good attitude,
come drest up, make sure you kind of slip stop slapped,

(04:43):
make sure you're hydrated, and you know, get down here,
be part of the act ship and we promise.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
That you'll have a great day.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Okay, as far as the people who aren't involved, that
aren't engaged in this, that might kick up a stink
if they get stuck in traffic.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
What's your message there? Don't come into town. When does
it finish?

Speaker 2 (05:04):
So we have to have the roads open from about
two pm. So yeah, please be with us.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
You know that this is an amazing community event. Tommicky
Drive will be closed. The road closures start from four
am rolling through to seven am. The whole course will
be closed. We are doing our best to try and
get as many people through the space safely and the
course and the road clear as possible. There's also free
transport for everyone that has a ticket, so you can

(05:31):
just present your bib and jump on a train and
bus to try and free up the roads as well.
So yeah, right early and relax and we will make
sure that we can get everything open as quick as possible.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
You've had a couple of guilt buttons. I'm sure not
too late to register. How do people go about doing
that before the action starts tomorrow morning?

Speaker 5 (05:51):
They just jump onto around the Bays dot co dot
nz and click on the aucront tab and they can
go through and buy a ticket, or if they if
they want to super last minute, they can come down
to the actual start line on the corner. We have
a big collection info booth there and they can purchase
a ticket. And the final thing, you know, like this

(06:15):
year's theme Darcy is Superheroes. We're raising money for our
official charity, which is Maker Wish. We've donated twenty five
thousand dollars to them and we've already raised all the
New Zealanders have already raised two hundred and forty thousand
dollars for them and one hundred and twenty other charities.
So it's an amazing achievement so far. And yeah, so
come down and superhero theme kit. As they say, not

(06:35):
all heroes wear capes.
