Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk s'b.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Right Talk Cricket Now. The first game was rained out
the second game in the three match ODI series. It
was a great win yesterday for the White Ferns. They're
playing again tomorrow. And who was at the forefront of
that great win. It was Maddie Green picked herself up
yet another century, she joins us. Now, welcome to the program.

(00:36):
Maddie G. You must be happy with your performance yesterday.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah, yeah, good, good performances today from all the girls.
And yeah, I'll just happy to get the wins.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
So yeah, you're always you're always so modest when it
comes down to things like this. But let's look at
your ton and how that ended. I mean, you're run
out at the end, but you just managed to squeak through.
That's a powerful performance. You must be super proud. Come on.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah, hello, it's nice to spend some time in them
at all. And look, if I reflect back to the
time last year, I was having a pretty tough time
with that. So yeah, certainly it's nice to get some runs,
but yeah, really pleasing to get the winner as well.
And I thought it was a really good all run
team performance, so yeah, that was really cool.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
I think one of the most pleasant thing or pleasing
things about that performance is the team wobbled. I mean
when it was Georgia went, I wanted like fifty odd
for four. That was trouble, but you managed to steal
and went on to school score tored and forty five.
So that internal strength that fight must be fantastic feeling.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Yeah, and I think most pleasing as well. You've got
some people obviously debuting and then you know someone like
as B only twenty and I thought the maturity of
Hurnings was outstanding, just to be able to bat with
me for a period of time to sort of try
to build a platform and you just curse sort of
having a season with the bat as well. So yeah, look,

(02:00):
I think for Izy Jess, probably the way that they
came in just really and managed to build partnerships with
me and just take the pressure off as well. You know,
I thought they were excellent, and as you said, to
be in that position and then scrap our way to
a competitive total like that, I thought was really pleasing.
And then for our bowlers to do the job and
back that up was awesome.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
It's changing in the guard, isn't it When you look
at some of the players that aren't there and the
way things are developing, that auges well for the future
that some of these athletes are climbing into the top
level and actually shining like they kind of belong there,
and that's just great news.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Yeah, and I think that's a really exciting thing about
the series. And obviously without the services of Merely and
Sophie for this tour, and we've got a few injuries
around the camp at the moment as well, but that's
providing some really cool opportunities for some others within our
squad and others that have performed really well domestically and
to see them stand up, Yeah, that's really exciting for
us as a unit moving forward, and we just want

(02:59):
to keep building depth within the women's game in New Zealand.
And Yeah, like you said, to see people stand up
like that when when the old guards away is really cool.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Only when in the bowlers came in, well, the third
work it went down just short of one hundred. There
wasn't any panic at that stage, was there. He was
still comfort about what was happening.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
No, I think you know, we were in a pretty
good position and knew there was still a long way
to go for the Sri Lankan battis. And look that
partnership that they put on for that third wicket, you know,
it was pretty impressive. But I thought the way that
Hannah and Susie bold that sort of partnership in particular
and just built dot ball pressure and yeah, I managed
to make them play a poor shot. Yeah, I thought
there was that was awesome and that's what I you know,

(03:42):
what I alluded to earlier on just having a really
solid team performance. I thought with bat and ball, the
way that we built partnerships, Yeah, it was just really pleasing.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
I hate to like rest on your laurels because you
can't because the rain wrecked everything in that first day
and there's a chance that maybe they can come back
and equal the score again in Nelson tomorrow. So you've
kind of got a flush yesterday last night, don't you.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Yeah, that's right, and we know that we certainly haven't
seen the best of their captain Jamiatapashu so far this
season and also the series, and she's had she had
a great season with the Northern Brave and she enjoys
betting and New Zealand conditions. So you know, I think
for us, we know that that that threat's there and
that we have to play well to beat this team.
And yeah, it's start again tomorrow and we've got to

(04:30):
come out and be clinical and execute our skills.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
While we're still talking about the ball as well, we were.
You mentioned Jess Kerr the bat. Jess Kerr with the ball,
that's that's pretty special. She didn't get a pole, but man,
she was miserly.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Yeah, she's been having a great season with bat a ball,
and I know that she's been working with Shane Jurgenson
down in Wellington over the summer and really enjoying learning
off him. And yeah, I'm just really pleased with Jess.
She works really hard and she's so skillful, and you know,
obviously sometimes she might sit and merely shadow a little bit,
but you know, she's such a good player and just

(05:05):
her all run skill set. It's really cool to see
her putting that on show this season.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Quite frankly, every cricker in the country sits in her shadow,
don't they.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Well, she's a world class player. So yeah, look, we're
very grateful to merely on our sidewink.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
She's playing well as well over the subcontinent, but I'm
sure she's stoked about what happened. Hey, go well tomorrow,
play hard, play fair, most of all, give us another win.
Good on you, Maddie Green, Thanks for your time.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
She's Darcy.
