The Warriors have bounced back in remarkable fashion to stun the Manly Sea Eagles 36-16 in their NRL contest at Mt Smart.

The hosts produced three tries in each half, all converted by Luke Metcalf.

Coach Andrew Webster is thrilled with the bounce back from their disastrous trip to Las Vegas.

Former Kiwis captain Richie Barnett joined D'Arcy Waldegrave to review the win at Mt Smart.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Wildgrave from News Talk SEDB.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Richie Barnick joins us now after a night of joy
at Mount Smart. You were there last night, Richie, you
looked very dapper as per. That was quite the turnaround,
especially when you consider that Manly rolled in and scored
within the first three or four.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Minutes while oh no, not again, Darcy was it was
one of those moments. You knew that they could attack
Manly just based on what we saw last week and
everyone's saying their top four side, and the start was
very much that. The game last week was very much
showcasing that they are a top four side. And wow,

(00:47):
what a turnaround, What a turnaround the sea the Warriors
come from a really low performance the week before, and
to see them grow an arm and a leg at
home at go.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Me Estadium, I figured that the season actually did start
last night. I don't count Las Vegas. It's too hard
to go over there and play like that amongst all
that chaos. I really didn't give it much credit at
all last night. A lot more, but it was a
scatter gun game of football, wasn't it, Richie. Look the
result was great, but it was all over the show
as far as the spectacle was concerned, both refereeing, some

(01:19):
of the tried decisions, the nature of offense of defense.
It was a crazy game of code.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Was actually the sendoff and the trevoyvitch is getting sent
off and Tom walking off, then Daily Chair Evans gets injured,
and there was a mirad of things that happened during
that game. You're right, and the you know, the sad try.
I mean, that was so debatable, and there's a lot
going on, but ultimately, I think what we can be
very happy with with the Warriors is that they're the

(01:48):
stick ability. You know, they started the way and they
finished the way they started. So that must have been
pleasing for Webster. I think by by by by reading
the play, he had that exact game plan in place
and executed it really well.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
I've got to ask you to stop walking, Richie Barney.
It sounds terrible. Can you do that for me?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Oh? Yes, I can't. Actually, no, no, I'm in a car.
I'm going.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, Okay, I'm sorry. It's just that it sounds awful,
and not that you do it, because you were wonderful.
Thank you, Richie that's it is. He good things come
to those asked. Now you talk, and now it is
clear there was some I could you say there was
any bad performance across the board from that warrior's side,
I don't think there is. I think that there was

(02:35):
a misread by Ti Vasak right at the very start
which was not ideal. But aside that, there was some
good performances. I mean Aaron Clark, he he looked the goods,
didn't he.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Aaron was outstanding. He muscled up from the get go,
which was what was needed right to kick off, set
the tone, and he just ripped and he ripped and tared.
He had good footwork and he was aggressive, he was relentless,
and he just carried it through, you know, partnered by
Mitch Barnett, who never went off. I mean he was.
He was crazy good. In fact, I thought he's going

(03:09):
to blow his ring. If he doesn't stop playing the
way he is, he's not going to last the season.
And they've got an interchange him a lot better. At
some point throughout the season.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Didn't he play fifty six minutes on the bounce of
fifty four.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Minutes from the from the straight and I was watching
him going No, this is ridiculous. And then Bud kicked
down and his kick and they call it kick Kickchase
plus one and that's your next tackle after a Kickchase.
Guess what, he was the first. He was the first
down there and it's first to take the first tackle.
It's ridiculous what he's doing.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Leading by example. What about Fish? How do you reckon?

Speaker 3 (03:45):
He performed? Yeah? Outstanding? He Fish. Harris just does what
he does. You know every week he leads, He grinds away,
he just throws a lot at it. He's physical and
it's just continuous through the whole game. That be just
such leaders of the crop. And I thought Egan was
exceptionally good. Egan was on fire. I've got to say

(04:08):
he dictated terms. He was very clear a platform the
workoff this week, which was always quite nice. Isn't it
to see someone with that calibata to work off the forwards,
to see the game the way he sees it now,
And it was just it was just a nice way
to see that they were relentless and really defensively strong.

(04:29):
And it was nice to see the halves combined because
a lot of talk that week was really about the
spine and compared to others, and I thought they really
shine out nicely last night.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, well, Metcalf took a bit of grief. He didn't
have the best game, but he turned that around and
I think the faith shown in all of the team
with an unchanged lineup by Webster was well repaid. They
realized they had a state of execution and they got
it right. And Metcalf he shone.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Yeah he did. You know, we know he's the runner,
and I think he kept them honest. You know, he
kept poking his nose through there when nothing was really on.
They didn't try to play fancy football. They just knew
what their strengths were and they played towards it. And
that's Metcalf and abundance and Chanelle's just been like, I
think he's really blossomed, you know. And that was a

(05:19):
really good confidence booster for both of their combinations to
unspread the field play right and play left and then
combined together the score that try that they scored on
the left hand side, so it's really working together. They're
finding their chemistry, the rhythms starting to work nicely. They're
working extremely hard for each other, and the benefits are
at the other end, looking forward to.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Next weekend, looking forward to seeing you again as dapper
as they came. Rich Barnie, thanks very much for your time.
You have a wonderful weekends. Your Sport Breakast on news
