Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB seven forty five.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
On the All Sport Breakfast Auckland City FC tacking on
totaling of this afternoon three o'clock QY with Tia Street
to talk about that match and other associated subjects. We
are joined by the striker Maya Bevan.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Good morning, Maya, good morning, good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Thank you for having me and thanks for coming our
big day for you. The league starts early, doesn't it.
Northern League's not supposed to get underway for another couple
of weeks, but it's been pulled forward to you Quitia Street,
three pm this afternoon. Why is it being pulled forward?
What's the skinny there, Maya?

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Oh, well we've got a busy schedule this year, you know,
so they've pulled the season forward a week. The Club
World Cup Trophy is actually on tour right now in Auckland,
New Zealand, and it will be down at q Tia
Street at three pm. And we're just trying to fit
in a few games before we head off to Souldon
Islands in about two weeks to compete at the league.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Busy old time so you've got the total, and I
suppose this game is just to get yourself up and running.
But the first game is important as the last game,
so you can't really focus too much on what the
future brings it.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, and of course we take one game at a time.
You know, a lot of new boys have come in
this year, so it's about just getting the group going together,
and yeah, taking one game at a time.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Your role playing, you're a strikers to stick the ball
on the back of the neck, but a senior enough
play although you have been playing overseas, what do you
have to carry through the season?

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Minor?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Oh, you know, we just got to carry a good
mentality and hopefully all of us stay fit, you know.
And like you just said, my job is for the
ball in the back of the net, so hopefully that
happens a few times, but it takes a team. So
just hopefully the boys get going quick and then yeah,
score goals every single game.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
And you've said you've got to stay fit.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
You know exactly almost how many days it is before
you start the World Club Championship over in the States.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Must be hard to not think about that.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
No, of course, you know it's only eleven weeks away.
But I mean, to be honest, it's just like I said,
one game at a time, and they're going to come fast.
We've got through games and then the next twelve thirteen
days and then we're often we've got to go the
whole way in the league. We've got five days and
five games and fifteen days, so I mean, you don't
have much time to think. You just got to take
one game at a time, thank you.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Progress think howbus your squad? You've got that many games?
You have to have four hundred of.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Them, won't Yeah, it feels like that. There's there's quite
a few down training now and playing. So I think
there's a squad of thirty odd boys down but we're
as good, you know, good for competition, but all down
there competing for spots and yeah, it's raising the level and.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
You I presume we've got stern competition as well. Everybody
wants to be the hero up front. Who else is
striking there that you've got to watch it out for
for your pozi?

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Oh no it's not, what's it now? You know we
all played together as a group. You know, we've got
boys anger school Colie, Ryan de Reza scored a lot
of goals as well as our wingers, you know, so
we're just got to put an effort altogether like we
can and then yeah, score goals and help the team
as much as we possibly can.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
So the game is safter not only is it important
for the Northern League, but also I think you've got
it documentary team following around as well. It's a big
open day to celebrate the fact you're going to the
World Club Championships, so it should be quite the party
now at Kivt story.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah no, hopefully we're expecting a lot of numbers down there,
you know, as a chance to take photos with the trophy,
for kids to see the trophy. So yeah, no, we're
excited for everyone to come down. And like you just said,
there's a few cameras around, so yeah, make sure you're smiling.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Hey, are you allowed to touch the World Club Trophy on?

Speaker 3 (03:31):
A few boys? I think I've tried, but I got
stern words and I allowed the first they actually got
all gloves on, you know, taking this trophy every because
the first person that touches the trophy with the hands
has to be the champion, so hopefully that's us the.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Same drill in the America's Cup.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
I tried to grab it about six months ago and
they're like, don't you even think about it?

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Just fingerprints, mate, and.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Straight out of there.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Can't touch it at all.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
As far as you've been away, right, and you'll come
back into the fold again, will you. Were you excuse me, ignorance,
we're playing last year or was this fresh off the
board for you now at the national level?

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Yeah, no, I was playing last year. So we won
the National League last year to get there as a group.
I came back and my second daughter, so my family
has moved home. Yeah, to do that with you know,
it takes a village to raise a family. So we've
got two little girls now. But you know, I'm just
here back at Auckland City. You know, it's like a
family to me. I've been here for a long time
and then out of it. So I'm grateful to be
back and be around that spisual when this is happening now.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
You've played for New Zealand a handful of times as well,
but then you disappeared to Canada. So you want to
restoke that career. That's part of what you want to do.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
More that mm hm Oh yeah, obviously it's that's the
best feeling in the world is pulling the white jersey on.
So I think your aspiration as a football always, you know,
the goalpost change, but I think you always want to
play at the highest level possible. So whatever that may be,
I want to reach it and I just want to
keep playing and keep helping the team I'm in.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Yeah, but there's there's a chance. This is not out
of the question. Is it getting up to the highest
level again?

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Yeah, no, for sure. This is these three games is
probably the highest level. Like this is going to be
a highlight for anyone in around this football club to
be involved in these games. And this will be unbelieve
We've got likes of Bayern Munich Lett Alone, ben c
cam Boca Juniors. You know, it's pretty crazy to see
that our name and the same sentence. So that's a
phenomenal chance for all the boys.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
And I'll just correct you now before the Ministry of
wife and your children hear what you've just said. The
greatest feeling in the world is holding it your children. Okay,
just repeat that to me. You're a dad first of
football or second.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Ak.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yes, that doesn't count though, because that's just non negotiable.
You know that feeling's unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Nice bit of defense mate for a striker. I'm pretty
impressed by that, my Bevan, thanks so much for joining us.
You go hard from three o'clock the Southternoon Que with
Tear Street. Get along there and watch that. You's got
a chance to not touch a big trophy. Maybe get
filmed and hopefully watch success as well for the Auckland
team because we're not racking for Tod Hunger just yet.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
Good on your mind.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Hey, thanks boss, thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Apologies not to you mine, thanks for joining us, but
anyone who heard that from Todhunger, I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
I'm supposed to be right in the middle, okay, impartially even
non biased.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
