Premier League quality from Chris Woods by post again can't

his goal scoring for in Barbaro sass Francis de grass
A Burda Supreme, he was all white ninety minutes from

the freak of World Cup next year seven heaven tonight

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Up where indeed it was to reflect on that we're
joined by a form all white. David choates and now David,
welcome to the All Sport Breakfast. Pinies actually up in
the building because he's got the commentary come Monday night,
I didn't know this. Did you know that Chris Wood
went up into the stand and signed autographs and got

(01:36):
a yellow card for his troubles?

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Yeah, made headlines across the other side of the world,
Chris Wood becoming a fan after being subject You're not
allowed to leave the petual without permission he sent me
the football. Aren't we allowed to get amongst the crowd?
Generally that's for reasons of violence or intimidating the crowd.
No chance to that. He was surrounded by kids who
was actually lovely to see. But yeah, he took a

(02:00):
yellow card for taking his leave of absence a little
early from the game. Matters hat trick up and saw
his loving creat a good thing.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
He wasn't in a yellow already, he wouldn't be able
to play on Monday.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Yeah, correct, Yeah, not the smartest move I suppose, But
I don't know. Maybe he knew that he had the
freedom of the city in terms of no suspension coming.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
But he's the guy is a hero. He is huge
in New Zealand sport. He goes down one of the
all time greats, so not only what he does but
who he is just an absolute hero. But we're here
to talk about the all Whites, not just one bloke,
because it's an entire team. What do you pull out
of that seven nil anything?

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Well, hard to sort of put a part too much.
What they did was do the job and did it
very well. They are at the moment I think a
squad was real balance and quality throughout and they were
too good for Fiji. So on this showing, they should
get through the next hurdle and they'll be off to
the World Cup without two much trouble. One would suspect

(03:08):
I could performance a very good performance. You'd have to
say Guineamacks go before the max ord. If they go
north of ex goals, they'll be pretty happy. They did
that and did it pretty easy.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Did anyone get injured now?

Speaker 4 (03:22):
It doesn't look like it looked like everyone came through fine.
It was a pretty gentle match for them, to be fair,
and I'm not sure that it's going to get any
harder for them on Monday. So they should get through
injury free and get back to their clubs. Remember this
side now is full of professionals flying the trade all
over the world at some pretty good clubs as well,

(03:43):
so I think New Zealand football fans can look forward
to another World Cup.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Should do I editorial piece about forty minutes ago, and
I've talked about this with Jason Pine on the Sports
Fixed podcast as well around the celebration of qualifying for
the World Cup. It's not the same, not what it
used to be. It will never be eighty two, it
will never be twenty ten because the path was so
overgrown and difficult to traverse. This time not so much.

(04:11):
It doesn't take away from what they've achieved, and I
expect to be quite the crowd on Monday, But for
me an interested in your thoughts on this. The next
step is getting through to the round of thirty two.
Qualifying's got enough anymore, that's the next step to greatness.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
You're right, Previous World Cup campaigns have become odyssees with
big matches to qualify. This route who the expanded World
Cup won't be that. It'll be a straightforward route. Should
they get the job done on Monday, and they should,
you'd have to think going to a World Cup now
with the kind of squad they've got. They've got probably
one of the world's best strikers at the moment in

(04:50):
Chris Wood leading the line. So they've got goals. In them,
they'll be tested defensively, but in young Tyler Binden, they've
got the kind of player with another year's experience under
his belt that can I think I've gone part of
a pretty tidy back group, and in the midfield they
look like they've got some talent that Sarbury Singh was
getting back to sort of his best form. Marco Staminich

(05:12):
is playing his trade. He's with Nottingham Forest but off
in Greece at the moment, plying his trade. They look
like a side that could you say, look to get
out of their group that would have to be sort
of base camp in terms of achievement, I would like
to think so.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
As far as players and the athletes on the ground,
who's to come back? You've mentioned a lot of names,
are there players on the periphery that may come World
Cup time have a huge effect on the results of
this team provides well.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
I think the young players on the fringe, I mean
they are always likely to improve, But to me it
starts to look like a pretty settled sort of No.
Thirteen that you'll be able to see on the park.
I don't see many changes really, the likes of Kakachi
he's a lock in bindon Boxel and Co. There sort

(06:01):
of lockins, you would think, so maybe the likes of
Pinak he might start to have a look in there.
But you get him to the midfield, Marco Staminich put
a ring around him. I'd say Starbury sing again with
the form Heath and he looks like he'll be a
Locke and who plays up front alongside Chris Wood. What

(06:22):
they do there could have some interesting sort of twists
in it. But Ben Wayne, he came off the bench
mister penalty, but no one will talk about that the
seven nolwin. But that's yeah, yeah, that's not critical. I
suppose it was a pretty relaxed penalty at that stage.
But they've got bigger tests to come and that'll be defensive.
The goalkeepers one that I'm not sure that they've settled

(06:44):
on who that might be. Alex Porson was the comer,
but he didn't end up getting a game last night,
so we shall see where that ends up. But the
squad that is gathered at the moment looks good enough
to me to take him to a World Cup and
be effective.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
And on that, mister Chokewo that you get on with
your weekend. Enjoy Monday night. I know you will. Thanks
as always for your time, I'm for your expertise, for
your opinion and just for being you.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
Jody Hey, Thanks mate. Always love talking the round more.
