Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talks EDB This.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
News Talks HEB talking Pack four Rugby three C five
This afternoon on Gold Sport Alex Smith with the Carters
from Albany. It is the end of this tournament and
one I'm sure that the Black Ferns will be pretty
keen to win and we're going now to the heart
of it with one of the debutantes, Recey party Lane.
(00:32):
Good morning's here, rec very well, looking forward to this afternoon.
A lot on your plate. You've got to absolutely smash
the USA off the part, don't you. Maybe coaching wise,
they didn't put it like that, but that's the guts
of it, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Yeah, it's a still big test match for us. It's
pretty much, you know, all or nothing really at the
trophy is on the line. But you know, for us,
we're just we've had a good week of preparation, our
learning from last week and just trying to go into
this game with a good mindset and start off well.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
So tell me what they were. If you've got three
key bullet points to pick up from that draw last week,
what would they be.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I think for us, a lot of it is like
our defense defense, and probably to have mindset, we're creating
a lot of opportunities, but it's just that last but
their last bit of execution. So we can keep that today,
we'll get the job done and we'll come away with
the lender. We'll just make sure that we focus on
that first role, nailing our core role, and then let
(01:33):
the rest take care of itself.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Did you watch the tape of the last kind of
ten to fifteen minutes of the game last week when
suddenly the game sprang into life. It is a good game,
but that end was sensational.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
I think we talk a lot about thriving under pressure,
and we want to be we want to live in
those moments and be take take ownership of those moments
to like see, it is such an opportunity that, you know,
we get to be in that moment and choose whether
to thrive or turn the other way. And the girls
did there you know, twenty two phases of take before
(02:06):
that last trial. They showed real, real grip and determination
to get it done. But I think as a whole
we've all agreed that you know, we didn't have to
make it that long for us to be able to score.
You know, we could have obviously, we could have been
up a few more points. But you know that's what's
the beauty of being able to go another week is
that we've learned from from last week and we have
(02:29):
the opportunity today to directify those moments.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
We joined Barrici poly Lane as we look toward the
pack formats the South and noon yourself, plain me it's
a big weekend for you. I mean, you pick up
your jersey and you're like, Wow, this is what I've
wanted to play for all my life, right, So how
do you compart mentalize that and just get on with
playing the game?
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah? I think for me, just a huge part of
making sure that I now my core ro is a
haspec so thank you. Sure that I've got my connection
with my teen and who I need to just to
own that first job that I need to do first,
and then when the opportunity comes, I'll make sure that
I take it. But the first part is to serve
the team and the best way that I can, and
(03:12):
then the regulars take care of it tough.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
You guys had a bit of a celebration use that
I believe they pulled the rug out from under you
and gave you all a surprise. This is for the
Wahni who are actually debuting, being off the bench or starting.
It's a lovely thing to do. That's all about your
team culture.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, definitely, there's touch a cool environment here with all
the girls. You know, they really fought us and thought
we had a media interview that we're walking into a
room and all the girls already there, party poppers, they've
got the loans through and they're just celebrating such an
achievement for us to debut, and it just shows the
love and kid that there is within this environment and
(03:49):
within the girls. So you know, it was so for
sure and something that I would definitely remember.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
It's super important team culture. Ricky Stewart, the coach of
Camber Raiders, Apparently the reason they've had so much success
is that he loves his team and he cares for
his team so much. They've got this huge connection. Look,
it's blokes and it's a different sport, but it's the
same you're on a unit.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yeah, definitely. I think for us it's all about Stavison.
The more that we can save each other than the
fast that we're going to grow as well. And if
we can just keep pushing each other to be the
best that we can be and caring for each other,
then you know we can we can never lose because
we're always we're always striving for more, but we're always
go together.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
When you are growing up as a younger player, who
did you look to as far as inspiration? Who did
you want to replicate? Not that he can replicate any
play it, but like who is your superstar?
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Oh, I definitely can't go past I'm going to say
Richard McCall Dan Carter's. But then also Tyler Nathan wrong
from the Stevens you did to get her debut in
the fifteens as well. More so thankful for Tyler was
just her size never stopped her from from being able
to achieve anything. You know, still had the mindset to
(04:59):
just go after it and no matter what anyone said.
And then Florie is just many. He just puts his
body on the line and you can see in the
way that he leads in his action. And Dan Carter
is just the greatest tend that there ever has been.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
I'm not going to argue I'm not like everybody else
you'd talk to. I was there at that Lin's Test
match in Wellington. Freak show. It's still drilled into my
memory what I saw out there, Absolute freak show. It
really really was looking forward to the game this afternoon,
looking forward to a huge amount of energy, of effort,
of cohesion, and a whole lot of joy as well.
(05:39):
That's what's so wonderful about the Black fans. You love
what you do and you can see it.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yeah, definitely, I think there's a there's the saying. I
think it's when you feel good you played a poor woman,
and that's the same as us. Like we have we
have music going. The girls are just dancing or singing,
and that's the way that in which we thrive. We
have to be having fun to be able to, you know,
bring out the best ourselves. And that's what I love
about this environment, is that jaw and that that's at
(06:07):
the core of our focus because if we don't have that,
then we're not going to play up to our potential
and all the rugby stuff will come. We know how
to play rugby, We've done the work. Just going out
there and enjoying it.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Absolutely. I love that mantra true of all Sport twenty
five minutes after seven recipory laying that game three thirty
five this afternoon live on Gold Sport, Alex Smith has
the call Pack four. When that went it well, when
the title still to come with the program, Let's talk
about the ability to survive under the intense pressure of expectation.
(06:47):
That's coming up next, and Jim Dolan joins us after
I've got some sports news headlines. We got it all
here on the All Sports Breakfast.
