Speaker 3 (00:20):
Talks hebb Well. It's been nearly five long years, but
the wait is almost over for the Warriors Wahine, who
will return to the NRLW tomorrow afternoon. The opening match
is against the defending champion Sydney Roosters on the road,
kickoff at one fifty pm tomorrow. Their first home game
(00:43):
is next weekend in the tron at FMG Stadium, Wakato.
That's against the Paramatta Eels, also on a Sunday at
one fifty Joining me now, they're starting halfback ahead of
her club debut. Emily Curtin. Good morning, morning, How are
you very well? Thank you, hope you are well as well.
Can you give our listeners a sense of the buzz
(01:04):
and excitement around out smart at the moment to get
this thing back going.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah, it's massive. Everyone's definitely behind us, staff, the men's team,
all of the community as well getting out in the community.
Everyone's really, really really excited to get back into the
competition and to be able to play Round one against
the Roosters tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
You've played in the NRLW before. What was the attraction
for you to come over and be part of this
Warriors club.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah, so I've been a part of Para and Tigers.
But I think just to be honest, getting out of
my comfort zone, getting to a new club that's coming
back in and just the opportunity that it gave me
to get out of my comfort zone, do something new
and hopefully lead the team to some very good victories
(01:56):
away in at home. Obviously out away games are home
for me being in Australia. But it's definitely I feel
like it's going to be massive wherever we play.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
A lot has been made of the culture of the club, Emily.
Has that stood out to use in your time since
you've arrived.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, definitely, it's massive over here. Obviously having rugby union
and league over here, and obviously being the only team
in the NRL and NROLW over here. It's massive. Like
everyone gets behind it. Everyone at the club is all
in and that's what we want as a team. Everyone's
just all in, willing to work one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
We had RB Nicholas on our League podcast Earlier in
the week, she was talking about, you know, splending her
time as a police officer, still working four days a
week along with captaining the sides. You've got players in
there who are also juggling family commitments. As a mum,
what is it like for the group. I understand your
juggling work commitments as well, just just to play the
(02:55):
game at this high level.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, definitely. Obviously it's not not as big as what
the men do at the moment, but it's getting there.
So the game is growing year after year, but we
do still have those massive commitments to have to work
on train at the same time. Some girls obviously have
families as well, have kids, so it's massive to be
(03:16):
able to be able to do both. But it is
a lot. It's very taxing. So to have a good
company behind you or a good workplace behind you is
massive to know that they have your back one hundred
percent of the time, they know that the commitment is
Obviously foot is priority during this time, but we're still
(03:36):
willing to work and be able to be there for
the companies that we are working for to do both,
because we can't just do one to keep getting by
throughout the whole year.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Indeed, Emily cann with us on the All Sports Breakfast,
what's the expectation internally, Emily re entering the competition given
the recruitment like yourself, getting a coach with the caliber
of Ron Griffiths, who knows what it takes to win
an NRLW title. I'm sure internally you don't feel like
you're just there to make up the numbers. But what
(04:08):
would success look like for the Warriors and they're reintrigue
to the NRLW.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Oh No, definitely, We're not just here for the numbers.
We're here because we want to compete. We want to
be up there with the best of the best, and
I think with the recruitment that Ron has done as
a coach and the way he's coached us in the
preseason coming up to Round one, we're going to be there.
We're going to be competitive one hundred percent of the time.
We're going to back each other no matter what, to
(04:33):
have each other's back on and off the field, and
be competing for the full seventy minutes in every game.
We don't want to just, yeah, as you said, be
there for numbers. We want to be at the top
of the competition and for us, I think it's just
we need to obviously have our first hit out. Not
having a preseason a preseason game going up against the
(04:54):
Roosters will be a good telling for us to show
where we're at. And I think we're looking very very good.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
That's exciting. And then just the last one from me Emily.
A lot of excitement around how Mikayla break I'm so
used to calling her Mikayla Blyed, but Mikayla Brake is
going to go out on the wing. Her move from
rugby sevens to league as a half back and a
game manager. What's she like to train and play alongside
and call a teammate? What does she brought to the group.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah, since she's come over, she's been like it's been massive.
She's just gotten stuck straight into it, obviously learning all
the new rules and learning how to play. Obviously going
from seven minutes for seventy minutes. I think there's a
few girls that might be a bit gas out there,
but we've all worked very, very hard in the preseason
and just to have someone of her color in the team.
(05:43):
She's a ball of energy always, you know, and getting
the girls up and about. She's been amazing and I
can't wait to see her do massive things this year.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
We can't wait to see all of the Warriors women
out there again in the NRLW, starting tomorrow afternoon against
the Roosters. We just want to wish you all the
very best. It's just fantastic to have you back in
the competition. Emily Curtain go really well. Thanks for your
tom Thank you very much.
