Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talks.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
It'd be good morning, Darcy.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
How are you doing doing good?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
You guys be happier after last week, although I speak
you've spent the last few days picking apart the performance
because there's always room to improve where you and the
coaching staff had deentified the big lift areas.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
I think that's some pretty obvious ones last week, Darcy,
you know, the some frustration around. You know, we dropped
some met some very fundamental errors and didn't really give
ourselves too much opportunity to attack their end. I thought
we showed a real pensity to use the ball coming
coming away from his own end and in sort of
midfield areas. But when we get got down to good end,
(00:50):
where you know, where we needed to be a little
bit more clinical, we came up with, you know, way
too many erarors. So I think I think we had
around eight sets during the game. And when I say
eight sets, Darcy, we got a lot of six agains
in there. But when you're getting six ends on the
first tackle and second tackle, it's not like having doubled
the light eight seven eight tackle sets I think we
(01:13):
came up with six hours, come up with two tries
in a repeat set. So we just you know, we
just had a really poor night on some of that
that skill and concentration and just really really fundamental parts
of his game. And you know, without doubt we were
under the pump both has started the first half, started
the second half. I think the pleasing thing for us was,
(01:36):
you know, I think we've shown this for the best
part of the season. Really, you know, we didn't give up,
and we finished both fast, a stronger team admittedly that
they had. They had some injuries that you know, undoubtedly
affected the rotation, but you know, I felt, I felt
we came on strong in both in both halves of
(01:57):
we after after having you know, really poor starts and
the impact that that adding our energy in the first
sort of twenty twenty five minutes of those are you
quite enormous?
Speaker 2 (02:07):
I'm sure, and I hope you don't talk about the
Titans as being a bogie team. You can't look at
them like this. It's just another team of men. Do
you spend any time focusing on the rather ticy ricle
between you two teams?
Speaker 3 (02:22):
No? No, No, we haven't made no we haven't. I
think I think we can certainly learn some lessons from
last time out, from when we played them a home.
You know, we got off to a good start, and
we know there are a team that uses the ball
and when they're getting the flow and they offload and
you know, they're prepared to chance around on passes that
(02:43):
if you're not absolutely where you're supposed to be in
the defensive line at that particular time. They are a
team that when it steps and it comes off from
they look really really good and there can be a
you know, a real threat with a football.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
You've got more players beck like Banti and Need and
Klanni and kurtin rocking to mighty. But I suppose that
the big two there as there were two, and of
Rocco Berry in the center role. I mean, Adam looked
great last week and scoring those tries, but to have
Rocco back, they're huge relief. And of course we know
(03:15):
the effect that Kurt Capele can have on the side.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yeah, look, we've it's no doubt that we've had to
chop and change our right center all year. You know,
Ali Leah Tower has been had a really frustrating year
with injuries and different little niggles. Rocco has been exactly
the same. And at the start of the year and
the year, you know, it's probably ne connect with those
guys in in who's going to play, and you know
(03:40):
we've miss the missed really large chunks of the year.
And Kurt Kirk's the season campaigner and he'll allD his
gloves up in the center for short periods of time,
but you know, we want to get Kurt and his
work rate back in the forward. So yeah, it's been
a it's been an issue for us all year that
we've we've just not had any consistency in that position,
(04:02):
and you know, I think that is something that has
probably you've been able to tell, you know, you've been
able to tell at times during the year that our
right side probably hasn't had that same level of coesion defensively,
and you know, we lost Luke Metcalf who would defend
it on that side of the field as well. So
from an attack and defense perspective, they've never really been
(04:23):
able to get, you know, the level of fluidity that
would want on that side of the field. Rocco, Yeah,
close to playing last week is a class actors rockies.
He's coming back in really good shape, trained extremely well
and we just got his fingers and toes cross that
it can have a little bit more look on the
injury front.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Don't curse him like that. We thank you as always Richard,
of joining the program. I've been saying for the last
couple of months it's not a you start, it's how
you finished. You've been going through a rocky pitch. He
started extraordinarily well. Now the finishers in sight, so let's
finish the way you handled the start of the NRL season.
(05:03):
Looking forward to staying in the four and giving us
some entertainment come finals time. We can think that far ahead.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
You're not allowed to though, you go, well, yeah, no,
one game at a time, I think, Darcy, you know
you've got to look at the scene, and you've got
to look at the competition, having anybody can beat anybody,
and to be sat in four spot with our own
destiny in our own hands. We're still a lot of
football to play three games. You know, there's going to
be a lot of twists and turns over this three week.
(05:31):
When you look at the fixture lists, I think at
the start of the year, when most people had us
in the bottom four. We'd have been you know, would
have been pleased going into the last three games in
the position we're in, with everything, you know, as I say,
everything resting on us.
