Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
We've managed to find the five to eight for the
NRLW Warriors. Aside. Patricia Malapo actually joins us now. They've
been on a bit of a skid for the last
couple of matches. They're up against the Dragons, seventh on
the table, so I when plainly crucial to keep their
playoff hopes well and truly alive. That game coming up
(00:31):
the South thenoon at quarter past five at Jubilee Stadium,
cargre over in Sydney, and Patricia joins us now. Marina, Patricia,
good morning. All the enthusiasm, WI. I hope you carry
that same enthusiasm into the Saint George game.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I sure will.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Is this the nature of the way you play the game?
Do you bring that bounce, that spark?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah? I think I'm always excited for a game there.
You know, every week is a new week and every
team we come up again, so I'm always excited to play.
And yeah, it's just another day of playing footy, to
be honest, and that's what I love. So yeah, excited
for today and come wait to see what I think
and put out there.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
What do you have to pick out of the last
couple of the games, the two defeats on the bounce.
I know that there were discipline issues cards like a
couple of weeks back, and that that really hurts you.
What else are you looking to improve though? A side
discipline which is a pretty basic thing, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Patricia, Yeah, definitely. I think that's one area where we
have we have lacked and that's probably what's costs both
of our games that we've just come off. But I
think it's also just staying composed and lack in times
when we are on the back foot, just knowing that
we needed work that extra bit harder, and just our
connection needs to be really solid, especially through the middle,
(01:51):
because yeah, teams have been identifying that and you know,
picking up on our week spots. So just little little
key things we need to improve on, which is just
our effort around defense and staying connected and trusting our system.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yeah, must hurt. So these weak points that the opposition
of identified, how do you carry that around?
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Well? I guess you know that's the nature of sport,
Like every team's got a weak spot. Teams every week
review each other preview each other and we come up
with you know, we identify key spots that we want
to be targeting. So yeah, I don't think every team
is perfect, but it's a turning point for us where
we can put our focus in turn be better for
(02:31):
the next round.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
You can't look too far ahead, but you're sitting at
the seventh position at the moment you'd be hoping for
better than that. Can you focus long term or it
just points now?
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Oh, to be honest, like, the heading into this campaign
was just to put us put our name back on
the on the nrr dub stage and just like to
inspire the you know, the girls.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
In end that there is further opportunities and league here
at home and not having to you know, move over
the ditch to go and play in Australia to then
be picked for in our ad stage. For us, it's
just about starting this up and then building on it.
So yeah, not really a long term goal, but you know,
making the mark that the Warriors are back into the
(03:13):
Innerrawi dot Com campaign right now.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
It's an e clique mix that you've got. You've got
converts from rugby union like yourself, You've got some of
the youth that have basically popped out of the lower league.
You've got some of the more mature players there as well.
That's a heavy mix. But really that should that should
gel quite nice. It will work nicely once it gels.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Oh yeah, I definitely agree with that. I think we
have created that, you know, connection on on and off
the field. It's just tying you know, the little stuff
into it now. And like you said, there's girls coming
from rugby and we were still learning the game. You
know what is it like week eight or week nine
right now? And I'm still trying to learn the game,
even though on a huff and I should, you know,
(03:53):
know the game inside out. But yeah, I think that's
just like the little little bits that I'm missing, is
just our game knowledge, game understanding as a collective. Like
you said, there is professionalism of the team, there is
experience in and stuff. It's the being all together on
the same page, knowing the game inside and out, not.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Just as a as a half, but across the whole
team you represent.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
That's important.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, sorry Protessia for interrupting, but you you played for Auckland,
you played for the Black Ferns and you only transferred
across the rugby league. It's only a handful of months ago,
wasn't it. How's that transition going from being a pivot
in rugby union to a similar position playing at six
and rugby league. It has been something that you've enjoyed.
(04:39):
Is it working? Do you think how much further have
we got to go?
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Oh? It's definitely something that I've enjoyed and I think
was the right move for me this year. I think
from the first day I, you know, came into training,
I was eager to learn and grow and just enjoy
the new space. And I've kind of fell in in
love with the game already, and who knows what will
be happening next, but I think that I'm meant to
(05:04):
be where I am right now. I think it's very
fitting the game into the style of rugby that I play,
or the type of player that I am, which is
a running half, and it just gives me the freedom
to play how I want to play, which rugby didn't offer.
So yeah, quite quite fitting for the player that I am,
(05:25):
and I'm enjoying it.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
One last thing for you, and thanks very much for
joining us, Patricia. A couple of little tweaks on Albert
Jones A watch. She has been unfortunately sat down. But
in turn you welcome back a pretty key player in
Mitt Annoyingala Chiefs back to That's a well welcome edition.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Oh definitely. Mitth Annoyer is miss Tom and our team.
So I think she will just bring out another side
of mongrel and her Yeah, just a different energy into
the team like she always has been. So yeah, we
cool to have some of our you know, hard hitters
and runners back.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah, excited and she'll be a started as well. I
spoke to her a couple of week backs. Quite the character.
I'm sure she's going to love you saying that she's
going to bring the mongrel out on your team. Here's
what it is, right Hey, Patricia Mulley, U, Paul, thank
you so much for joining us here on News Talk CB.
Get out there, play hard, play fast, play fair and
keep smiling.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
How yeah, thank you for having me.
