Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Right. The Warriors, as we well know, got a for
the start of the season with an awful result in
Las Vegas. I didn't count that, and then they proceeded
to cause a ruckus until injury destroyed them and they
fell away toward the back end of the season. But
not the New South Wales Cup side, no no, no
minor premiers a very dominant season. They've got the Dragons.
(00:36):
They lost their made a semi final clash to a
couple of weeks back, right, But this team an extraordinary
bunch of players. They have a lot of guys for
playing first grade, a lot of big lump humans. One
of them is Sam Healey. Not that he's a big lump,
but he's played a lot of time at first grade.
(00:57):
He's a hooker. Seven appearances are for the wise big Boys.
He's going to join us now to preview. It might
well be the first major trop of this team has
actually won. It should be awesome. Hey Sam man, how's
it going well? Not as good as you? You guys
have got a final coming up tomorrow. One place to
(01:17):
New South Wales Cup the Warriors vi. The Dragons. What
a nice way to end the season for the Warriors.
Hasn't been great for the senior team, but you guys,
this is looking pretty good, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah, obviously we've been flying hile all season, strung a
lot of wins together and went on that massive run,
and yeah, a lot of guys come come out of
their shell and really made a name for themselves and
looking to cap it off on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
It kind of doesn't look fair when you look at
the side. There are so many guys who have played
first grade lining up in that team. I presume that's
similar for the Dragons, but if your name check some
of these guys, there's some absolute offensive and defensive weapons
out there.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yeah, I think I think both teams are pretty stacked.
You look across the Dragons team and there they've got
a fair few really good middles and outside backs that
are that had come down and so it should be
a really really high quality, really good game and yeah,
we're really confident about what we can produce. So yeah,
we're looking forward tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
There was a couple of former Warriors lurking around as
well on the pack for St. George. I think Murdock
Mazilla's in there. Tyler Mariner was in there too, the
Rix Warriors guy. But a bit of a reunion for
some of that.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Yeah, it must be.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
I didn't really know that then Murder Macilla played for
the Warriors, but I knew about fatal marin Us. But yeah,
I'm sure they'll be looking to get one up on us.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Was right, It was just well, I think it was
just one season this concentrated on what you do know,
and that is what's worked for this team this year.
Why have you been so dominant? I mean, you've won
at that level, you've got to win the whole competition now,
but you finished number one. Why is that?
Speaker 3 (02:56):
I think we're pretty clear on our role during the preseason,
like we're all sort of come together and we knew
that our job was the sort of prep first grade
and the best way to do that put.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Our best foot forward, and we just did that.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
And I think from round one to now, we've been
really connected and everyone's really brought in and like we're
a really sort of tight knit group and like we're
willing to do anything for each other. So I think
I think that really helps that like we when we
run out there, we know that.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
The guy next to us has got our back.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
So yeah, that's sort of at the crux of what
our team's about.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
New South Wales Cup or Premier's Top Grade brutal, all
the same, But could you give us a point of
difference between the two competitions that maybe your regular humans
like us could work out because you guys are glad
of toy you don't mind getting smashed over on a
weekly basis. But what do you think that's the big
difference between the two competitions.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
I think just everyone's everything's a bit quicker, faster and
like the collisions a bit harder in NRL, Like it's
just a step up, you know. But in saying that,
there's a lot of guys that go back to New
South Wales Cup and I've got a point to prove
to get back into NRL, So you're always getting the
best out of those guys. So I think it's a
really good competition to prepare prepare guys for an RL
(04:08):
and you've seen you've seen that with I guess the
last couple of years the guys that have come through
at our club.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
So yeah, it's a really good stepping stone for those guys.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Where do you think your strengths are? Where do the
Warriors stand above the wrist?
Speaker 3 (04:21):
I think just like we've got a lot of individual brilliance,
but the way that we've titled together and we're able
to get the best out of each player and played
at each person's strength. So I think like we've got
a couple of damaging back rollers in Kalas and Eddie
So and then we obviously got our fronties that are
really really good in Tanner and Buns and then Kilani
there as well, and then.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
We got strike Out on the edges.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
So it's just about bringing everyone's everyone's strengths to the forefront.
And Tanner Boyd does that, does that really well, getting
all the boys involved.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
What yourself and Tanner Boyd have had an effect on
first grade when you've come on up, and I think
that Steph Smith Tanner's has been fantastic when he's appeared
for the Warriors. Won't forget you mere toy Irvor Ether
Knnie going. But the effect that these guys have had
in the next level up says a lot for what
you're actually putting down for the New South Wales. Cup.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Yeah, for sure, I think I think that's just that
shows this little level of competition that it is, and
the way that we've been playing shows that when guys
come up into first grade, they're confident they can do
a job, and they do do a job, and that's
good for other guys that obviously haven't made their debut
yet but are looking to make their debut. They see
other guys going up there and being able to handle it,
(05:35):
it gives them a lot of confidence as well.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Did you finish first but you're still got to play
your final away from home? How wrong is that?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
It's a bit tough, but no, we're pretty grateful to
be in the New South Wales competition, so yeah, yeah,
we're looking forward to a nice little away trip. So yeah,
it's good.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
A most come beat with some chocolates. Sam Healy, thanks
very much for your time. As always, play hard, play
fair and play with immense aggression.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
We'll do. Thanks thanks for having me.
