Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talks edb.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Breakers in the ambl finally broke their duck. It was
on Wednesday night they picked up their first win of
the season. It was the Elawarra Hawks. They got it
done at home in front of a You gotta love
the crowd. They keep turning up and cheering, even though
the Breakers have been all broken to the start of
the season, so they need to keep that momentum rolling.
(00:32):
They got another home match. It's tomorrow. It's get to
see Southeast Melbourne Phoenix. Isaya Brockendon as a shooting guard
for the team. He joins the program now to reflect
on that win and look ahead to the game on
Sunday after noon. Isai, Look, you guys, are you finally
got into the winner's circle? To you long enough? I'm
assuming you'll be able to take that energy into the
(00:55):
game tomorrow, right.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah, definitely, We're just looking to build on it. You know,
we had a good game definitely, you know, started hitting
some threes, but yeah, just taking the momentum and that
confidence into the game tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
It's not all about just getting buckets. It's very very
important plaining. But it's got to be something else around this,
because I think coach carp said, look, it's all very
well and good. We're not going to drain as much
in the future. The scenes was huge, but it's something
inherent in the attitude that you guys actually brought to
the gym, and that was the key.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah. Yeah, we had a team meeting about it and
just talked about who we want to be as a team,
where we want our identity to be, and just you know,
really talked, you know, held ourselves accountable. Uh you know,
wanted to go out there and control all the things
that we could control, our body language, our talk, our togetherness,
(01:50):
our energy, and you know we just brought that all
to the game and it all worked out. But yeah,
we just want to be a really high energy, fast paced,
like scrappy team that other teams don't want to play against.
So just making teams on comfortable is our first priority.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Wait, that was Breaker spoyprint and if it started all
those years ago, it was all about the fast break
means the name that's very much been the Breaker's flavor
right from the get go. So when you come in
and you you're not carrying that energy initially and it
takes you a heavy team meeting and full consecutive else,
did did you question what you guys were doing? Do
(02:30):
you start going hold on? What? Why is this just happening?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Now? Yeah, we definitely knew, you know, with preseason, it
was like we didn't really have our full team. You know,
Parker got her early, Kareem was out, we didn't have
Rob Baker for the whole thing, you know, so I
feel like it was just getting everybody integrated, like back integrated,
(02:55):
and you know, just back on board with how we
want to you know, how we want to run and
how we want to push the pace. But you know,
like you said, like it just starts on the defensive
and we can't run any fast breaks if we don't
get any stops. So you know, we just definitely put
a heavy focus on just defending and making sure we
secure that rebound so that we could push. We felt,
(03:18):
you know, like in preseason, we you know, we're a
little bit faster, so it's just yeah, just trying to
We just tried to bring that back, you know with
all of our guys.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
The pre season was great. I mean, you won the
Blitz and then it kind of went slightly backwards, but
that and you'd be used to this as a pro player.
You play all over the world, the ability for teams
to find that rhythm with guys collected from all over
the planet. You're not necessarily going to hit that running
straight away. It's gonna take a few games and it
doesn't matter how you stop, rights how you finished, and
(03:49):
you're gonna look to that, don't you.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Yeah, definitely, Uh, you know when that was the thing
that Parker had said after our Sydney loss, he was
just like, you know, it's four games, you know, were
going to run, and we get four of them back.
We're back at five hundred and we're back in the
hunt where we want to be. So it's just taking games,
one game at a time, realizing that the season, you know,
(04:14):
it was still young. You know, it wasn't it wasn't
time to just you know, give up. You know, we
knew something had to change, So yeah, we just wanted
to do the work.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
That home advantage he must have been to feel that.
And you've got to a game tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah, Yeah, we're really excited. I really appreciate the fan
support out here. It's been really great. I love that,
you know, they just continue to you know, stick with us,
you know, despite the rocky start, but their energy last
game was was huge for us. You know, it really
(04:49):
kept us going and just inspired us to you know,
just play harder. So you know, we we really appreve
Sorry we had.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
A bit of a drop out there, but I say
it personally, what are you looking to clean up in
your own game? Where are your areas for improvement?
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Do you say?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Uh? Yeah, just making sure that I'm going out there
and in a sense not being a robot, you know,
just trying to make reads based on you know, what
the defense is doing. I feel like sometimes we would
just run a play and you know, teams are scouting that,
you know, so they're just cutting it off, and then
once we can't get our first look, then stuff just
kind of starts to fall apart. So yeah, personally, just
(05:30):
you know, staying aggressive and really you know, making reads
based on you know what teams are doing, uh to
you know, counter me, and not just running to play
just because it's the play. You know, So just working
on really being more uh just live more and more
free flowing in my reads, and then you know, just
(05:52):
being on balance ready for you know, my threes. You know,
I've shot really well the past two years back in
the G League, so you know, as far as from
three point range. Shit, just staying on balance, staying in
the gym with the basketball, getting reps up, and yeah,
you know, just making sure that I'm being a leader,
(06:12):
being uh, you know, a guy who's out there talking
bringing energy on the other end of the floor.
