Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talks EDB.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
First up, we're going to talk a bit of rugby
and we'll get across the Phoenix Auckland FC derby. That's happening,
super super exciting. We need more of those. But getting
right into it right now, we'll talk about the All
Black Grand Slam to tomorrow morning Staff four o'clock live
and free here on News Talks ZEDB. Elliott Smith will
(00:33):
have the call on that match. So a lot of
talk around Scotland being a much stronger team, got some
key players. Finn Russell bears like Finn Russell is like
the only dirty play for that team. That's all you
hear about Finn Russell. By ay, they might, they might
beat New Zealand for the first time in their history.
(00:56):
We will see if we're now going to go to
Dupla c. Carriffe, one of those names in the twenty
three for tomorrow Morning's clash. Hey, he joins us now
to discuss that life on tour to preview the match.
Whatever else flies through my mind and the mind of
Dupes is a great character and he joins us now.
Good Dupes.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
How are you hey, brother? Yeah, good, thank you. Must
to hear a familiar voice from home.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Thanks Dupes, familiar, maybe not friendly. Congratulations on making the
cut off the beats loose forward trio. What are the
coaching staff said about what they expect from you on
the park?
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
No, it's always, you know, always an amazing opportunity to
play for the All Blacks and yeah, to be back
in the fold this week is pretty cool. So I'm
pretty excited about it. But no, nothing too much. The
boys come off the bench last week and did an
amazing job against Irelands. It's the challenge and what they
want to do as a group is do the same
(01:52):
and that's for me in particular as well. Come on,
have a presence, be accurate and physical and just yeah,
benefit the team.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
And on the team, how's the tiler going? Abandon brothers
getting a chance to gel and know each Other's that
working well for your Dupes?
Speaker 3 (02:05):
It's been awesome. You know, the majority of us we've
been doing this for a while, so maybe not to
this extent, but you know, we know what it takes
to be on the road and enjoy ourselves but also
get balance right so that we train and perform play well.
So it's definitely a cool. Cool part of the role
is traveling the world and in some of your mates.
(02:26):
You know, you run in this environment person and and
so you know, never short of anyone to hang out with.
Everyone's you know, a couple of meters down the hallway.
But yeah, no, it's good. No one's got Kevin fever yet.
I'll let you know when something does.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Tell us about the thistle, the Scottish threat, Where are they,
where are they strong?
Speaker 3 (02:45):
What do you know? Yeah, obviously it's a really quality
Scottish side and there's a lot of players in that
group that, yeah, are coming off big seasons either representing
their clubs, their country or or the lines to it
down in Australia. So you know, as we all know,
they've got a pretty well class fly half pulling the
strings in the back line, and some real firepower outside
of them, some boys in the forwards that are nice
(03:07):
and physical and can get over the ball really quickly.
So things that we've faced all year and nothing we
aren't prepared for, but we are very aware of their
threat and the strengths of their game. Yeah, I guess
we focused on what we need to do as a
team to nullify them throughout the week. We've got a
plan and hopefully looking to implement that to the best
of our ability come Saturday night.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Plainly, DUP's discipline is key to success or how you
deal with the referee, how you interpret what the referee wants.
How much work have you been doing in that space?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yeah, no, great question and really good observation. Yeah, it's
no secret international referees are coming really hard down hard
on us with the rule book and their interpretation of
I guess certain rules, and I think what's important for
us as a team and individuals is we just got
to be clean as just just do our best to
(04:01):
you know, drop our height, no dirty rucks, roll out,
just the siple things done well and rarely try our
best to take the ref out of the game and
make his decision making process easy. But as we've seen
throughout the season and in recent games, it's not always
going to be perfect. And whether or not you feel
hard done by the ref's got the final say. So
we've just got to control what wee can control and
(04:22):
do our very best to keep it clean and tidy
for him.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Let's take a look at some of the selections after
a massive week last week, Josh Lord gets the nod
and the loose forward trio slightly adjusted. Adisavia of course
is still there, but the twin threats of Satiti and
Larky pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Yeah, all those names you've mentioned, young, energetic, skillful boys
and yeah, really ready for their opportunity. I guess Lordie
come on last week and did a phenomenal job. And
you know, sometimes it comes through form and selection and
other times it comes through injury. But either way, you've
got to be ready to take your opportunity and put
your best foot forward and all those boys are ready
(05:03):
to do that, and you know you've got to young
lock pairing. But there's the ultimate professionals there and even
even Lordie like you say, and then pretty exciting loose
forward truer to start the game off with. Both Willia
and Pete Ford had outstanding games last week as well
as Ardie's which he always does.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
So what about Billy propt? They did know Billy pretty
well of course, being a fine Wellingtonian. Where's he at
right now? After getting the scene to roll but not
moving forward with it? But he's piece back on the bench.
Is he good?
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Well, his head's in a good space. We're all every
single one of us in this environment is aware of
the fact that you know, every single one of us
as a quality player and and the challenge for each
of us is to take that opportunity when we get
when we get a chance. So you know, he'll be
excited to be back in the fold and be looking
forward to getting some minutes back on the paddock. But yeah,
(05:58):
like I say, everyone in this team is will class
and we're challenging and competing with each other every week.
So get into the twenty three. So we're pretty realistic
around you know, the possibility that we could play and
also the possibility that we might not be. So that's
just part of the job. Mate.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Simon Park has been another massive, fine, deceased, massive human being.
Probably needs a break, might be disappointed that he hasn't
made the team, but he probably does need to sit down,
doesn't he He needs to breathe.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Yeah, Nah, Spars had a phenomenal year, just been immense
basically for the Chiefs and then leading into the All
Black season. So yeah, I guess it's just a just
an opportunity for him to fresh up. The body mate
played some big minutes for the All Blacks in recent
weeks and come off the beck of a really big
physical year for the Chiefs. So yeah, he's a he's
a top human being in a competitor, but also you
(06:49):
know someone who wants to seven team more than himself.
So yeah, no, he's he's all good, and he's doing
his best to prepare us his best in this week,
just like everyone else.
