Top of the hour. Good morning, I'm Ellen k and
they're calling him the Deep Dish Ciple, the first American Pope,
a Chicago native, and all kinds of Pope merch being
rolled out. The new Pope gets his own official trading
card from tops are also Pope boppleheads. Yeah, the Pope
(08:11):
merch is deep and also the Chicago tie in. So
he was a born Robert Francis Prevost at Mercy Hospital
in the South Side of Chicago nineteen fifty five, growing
up in a nearby suburb, and also graduating from Villanova
University as a math major. So the Pope giving his
first Mass today, and what about this? The first time
(08:31):
in Olympics history, the twenty twenty eight LA Summer Games
will have two opening ceremonies at two venues at the
same time. Venue number one the Coliseum, which means the
Echo Park Stadium will host the Olympics for a record
third time nineteen thirty two, nineteen eighty four now twenty
twenty eight. And then venue number two, Sofi Stadium, also historic,
making the first time the Olympics arrive at Sofi, which
(08:52):
by the way, will be used for swimming events. I
know there are ways away, but July fourteenth, twenty twenty eighth,
that is the date our games begin. Went to say
in your calendar, and we love our postal workers there
in the spotlight. This Saturday Tomorrow is a thirty third
annual USPS Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the largest food
drive in the nation. Everyone encouraged to leave non perishable

help fight hunger. Over the last three decades, the USPS
has collected more than two billion pounds of food. Again tomorrow,
leave what you can. And the Dodgers struggling a bit

Coast one oh three point five.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Mother three Wentstfanie, and we are honoring your mother I
and your feel goods here on a feel good Friday.
All right. So Mother's Day thirty four billion dollars spent. However,
most moms just say they want hugs and naps. One
of the earliest known Mother's Day celebrations can be traced
all the way back to ancient Greece with the celebration
(10:37):
of Rhea, the goddess of motherhood and fertility. More phone
calls are made on Mother's Day than on any other
day of the year. One hundred and twenty two million
phone calls to moms are made. And it's also a
huge card day, billion dollars with the cards sold. And
I thought this was cool. When my son was five
months old, we were trying to get him used to
(10:58):
water and the swimming pool and we wanted to like
get him swimming as early as possible. Our pediatricians said,
get him in the water, you know, and anyone who
has a baby, teach them how to swim. It's just
so important. So we would, you know, go in there.
We had a swim teacher come and you know, play around,
(11:18):
and so my husband and I were doing what she
told us to do, like, you know, just kind of
bounce him around, make him have fun in the water. Well,
I got up to get out of the pool and
I'm walking back in the house and I hear this
ma yah was and I was like, wait what And
(11:38):
so I just learned this this morning. The words mom
ma and mama are of course the words for mother
because babies first words typically start with em sounds.
Speaker 12 (11:51):
Or like.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Good mama. But I'll never we all just stopped. Thank you, Calvin,

her very very much. She's a great role model of
what it is to work hard and persevere. And I'm
just thankful to God for another year with my mom.
Speaker 13 (12:40):
I love her very dearly. And you know, even through
the times that you know, bad or good, she will
always be my number one mother, so I always love her.
Speaker 14 (12:49):
Hey, Mama, Happy Mother's Day. Thank you for loving, providing
for me and overall being the best mom in the world.

of the hour. Good morning, I'm ellen k And the
first full day as new Pope for Leo the fourteenth,
chosen after that very brief conclave at the Sistine Chapel
four votes, just over twenty four hours. So why did Robert,
his real name, select the papal name Leo? Father James
(18:21):
Martin explains the meaningful lineage.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Historically, it's a name that would signal his alignment with workers, labor,
and the poor.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
In the last Pope, Leo the thirteenth was chosen way
back in eighteen seventy eight. So what is Leo's life
looking like in the coming days. His first Mass was
held this morning in Rome. A Sunday, he'll share a
prayer from Saint Peter's balcony, and then Monday he's meeting
with journalists from around the world. Harry Styles was in
the courtyard waiting for the Pope to be announced yesterday,
(18:52):
So that was a pretty cool moment too. We hear
he's a big one Direction fan. Also, while this was
the shortest conclave in recent history, the fastest this was
only ten hours. That was back in fifteen oh three
with the election of Pope Julius the Second and the
Rams players are going to want to attend the team's
at Mini Camp next month. The Rams announce that they're
moving Mini Camp to Maui in an effort to promote
(19:13):
tourism to Maui and Hawaii, especially since multiple wildfires have
costed a decrease in visitors over the past couple of years.
The camp runs in June for a couple of weeks,
and as a bonus, players will be able to bring
their families on that trip. Pretty nice and Mother's Day
on Sunday, it's going to be a warm one. There
was a big poll don who is the most inspirational
(19:34):
mom in movies? Number three Sally Field as Missus Gump
and Forrest Gump. Number two Julie Walters as Molly Weasley
and the Harry Potter Movies. And number one Holly Hunter
as Elasta Girl in The Incredibles, the most inspirational mom
in movies.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
I'm at the top of my game. I'm right up

second the world to the men.

Oh the meme game yesterday was just next level and

Speaker 1 (24:18):
Ah, what about deep dish Ciple, Deep dish Deep faith.
So yeah, his brother, his brother's talking. You know. I

moment yesterday, Ryan as a box came to my front door.
And this is when we believed that our new Pope
(24:40):
Leo was a Cubs fan, because that was the first
report and everyone's going crazy, Oh my god, he's a
Cubs fan. My son even texted me and said that
means he knows Pete crow Armstrong totally from Harvard Westlake. Yes,

announced plans to donate ninety nine percent of his estimated
two hundred billion dollar fortune over the next two decades.
I had to close the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

The Secret to longevity? A big Harvard eighty year study
of adult development found the key to a long, healthy
life isn't just about diet or exercise. It's about relationships.
There's a doctor at Harvard. The studies director shared that
strong social connections are the top predictor of longevity and
(28:29):
also happiness and well being. Warm meaningful relationships help regulate
your stress, which in turn benefits your physical health. That's

Ma and mama are universal words for mother because babies
first words typically start with M sounds like ma, donna,
and we are Coast one of three point five. My
baby Calvin said MA, when I like I got out
of the pool, we were like teaching on a splash
around and h I'll just never forget that moment. It's
(29:51):
like it was yesterday and now he's twenty three. I
can't believe it. Oh my gosh. We're buying cards like
crazy for our moms, a billion dollars worth. We're gonna
make one hundred and twenty two million phone calls. And
one of the earliest known Mother's Day celebrations goes all
the way back to ancient Greece, the celebration of Rhea,
the goddess of motherhood and fertility. So Happy Mother's Day

her very very much. She's a great role model of
what it is to work hard and persevere, and I'm
just thankful to God for another year with my mom.
Speaker 13 (30:51):
I love her very dearly. And you know, even through
the times that you know bad or good, she will
always be my number one mother. I always love her.

So we're in this tiny little dressing room and he
looks at my glasses. I take them on this praduct

Speaker 1 (33:03):
What are you watching? We'll tell you what we're watching
and maybe we'll give you some good tips. Let's start
with you Social Queen Darlene. What you're watching? All right?
Speaker 16 (33:12):
Well, I'm a huge Judy Bloom fan and she has
a book called Forever, and I grew up reading all
of her books. And now there's a show on Netflix
inspired by that book, and it's a series, so it
just came out yesterday. It's Forever. It's about childhood friends
who fall in love and basically grow up together. So
I'm all about it, and that's what I'm going to
be binging this weekend.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
That's great, all right, Producer Mike.
Speaker 18 (33:35):
Yeah, I'm a fan of comedy, so I'm going to
be watching Tonan O'Brien receive the Mark Twain Award. It's
the American Humor Award. It's like the highest caliber of
awards for comedians. So there's a lot of guests on
this one, Nikki Glazer, Bill Burr, Adam Sandler, and it's
just pretty much like a big roast and gathering a friend.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
So I'm going to be watching that on Netflix.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
That sounds so fun. Okay, that's a Netflix, Ryan, What
about you? What you're watching?
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Streaming on Prime Video? Also six dollars rental on Apple TV.
And I know this isn't new because like, there's nothing
more annoying than the person being like, have you seen
this one? Actually everyone's seen it. But if you were
as invested as many of us who are in the
papal process, I'm going in on conclict.
Speaker 18 (34:10):
I need to know.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
I'll tell you during the whole thing for those for
that twenty four hours, I was asking you and Darlene
so many questions like what do you think they're doing?
Or are they eating together? How do they sleep? And
every time I would ask a question, go just watch
car I want to watch it again.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
I've already seen it same so rented on Amazon Prime.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Or streaming on Prime Video or rented on Apple Tea,
got it? Okay, how about you.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
All right, I've got Netflix and it's the Carol g documentary.
Tomorrow is beautiful and it just I don't know. I
tried to sample it a little bit, but I want
to really, really really get into it. So that's really good.
But also today out on Netflix, Nana's starring Vince vann
I'm a huge Vincemon fan. And he's a guy who
(34:51):
opens a restaurant Italian restaurant in honor of his mother
who had passed. So he hires local grandmothers to run
the kitchen.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Oh that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
None of them get along. So you have Susan Sarandon,
Lorraine Broco, Talia Shire, and Brenda Vaccaro. So this looks
super fun. It's on Netflix, It's Nanaus and of course
Walton Goggins hosting SNL on NBC on Saturday. Can't wait
for that.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
Loving The Ellen k Morning Show.

And because Carrie steals next and I can see her
through the window. Three of the best moms in the

Speaker 1 (36:02):

Speaker 3 (36:04):
I'm Social Queen Darling and that producer Mike Cromos, and
so I have.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
A great weekend. Mike, I know you have a special
day tomorrow before Wango Tangle. You're doing something pretty big.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
I'm getting married.
Speaker 18 (36:16):
Okay, yeah, no, I mean we got married two years
ago into Bahamas, but I guess we got to do
it through California and make it official and legal.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
So we're just gonna go and do it and get
it over with.
Speaker 18 (36:27):

not doing what you love, you are wasting your time.
Kiss on three, kiss on me one two three.
Speaker 15 (37:08):
Every time I think of you, I always catch my breath.
And I was still standing here, and your minds away,
