my voice backed, but I lostmy father in law and I'll give you
some of the lessons I've learned comingup sixteen. But that was shocking news
because we had just talked to him, you know, So if you've lost
(01:03):
someone around the holidays, do notmiss it. At six'ten it's actually
a beautiful story of passing. Andcoincidentally, I met a woman in Hollywood
over the weekend who was a hospicecaregiver, and I told her the story.
She's a friend of a friend ofmine, and she said, how
beautiful, And I just thought, wow, that is People who do that
(01:27):
are so special, so special.Yeah, really, anyone who works with
life and death that closely, youknow, that balance right there between the
precipice. How's Roy, he's youknow, I don't know, Okay,
it's so fresh, Yeah, he'syou know, it's a roller coaster.
(01:49):
But walking through the door this morninginto this cheery studio is just so great.

big applause to the cruise working dayand night to get the ten patched up

Mayor Bass on this morning so wecan say thank you, Mayor Bass.
And it goes without saying officials,we're hugely concerned about what a close ten
would have done for travel this week. In related news, we have a
POI, a person of interest.Police finally released a surveillance photos of that
person wanted in connection was setting thefire. Six week tall, one ninety

year deal, so plenty of time, I guess to get that perfected.
And what about this the former president? Actually tonight it's a Super Bowl rematch,
and no doubt the nation will bewatching Chiefs Eagles Kelsey Brothers Monday Night
football. Basically this could be aSuper Bowl preview. They're the best two
(04:24):
teams in the NFL. Chiefs QBPat Mahomes is focused on the game,
but also Taylor Swift. I thinkit becomes a bigger deal to the fan
bases than it does to the guysthat are actually in the building. But
I think when you meet the people, and I've been looking up to meet
Taylor and see how good of aperson she is, I think you understand
why it's not become a distraction oranything like that. All right five fifteen

Nick Pauliochanni coming up with traffic andboy are we going to rely on Nick
(05:55):
this week? By the way, guys, I'll be in the pray Thursday.
Yeah, even rhymes. We're gonnafly to Dallas to see my mother
in law because my father in lawpassed on Friday morning, Roy Senior,
and so we're worried about her. She's holding up so far. It's only
been a few days. But theywere married for sixty four years, and
(06:17):
so the same thing when my dad, when we lost mom sixty four years.
So it's this shocking new world. But it was Friday morning, three
point thirty. We got the calland I wake up thinking did I miss
my alarm? I was getting readyto come into the show, but I
had lost my voice. So beenthe doctor the day before and watching my
(06:40):
husband on the phone, and hejust starts crying. He said Dad died
and it just I don't know.We had just talked to him the night
before. We door dashed a Chickfil A sandwich to him. He was
entered in a hospice. The nurseKimberly called us. She said, you
want to talk to your dad. He's hungry, and we could hear him
(07:02):
say you wanted Chick fil A.So we grub hubbed a Chick fil A
sandwich to Kimberly and Dallas and heate it. And then my brother in
law called this because Roy Senior,my father in law, was getting ready
to go to bed, and hewas all snug in his bed and hospice,
you're so amazing. They're just socaring. And so my brother in
(07:28):
law put the phone on speaker andwe did too. It's just me and
my husband and we said good nightto Roy Senior. Roy said good night,
Dad, good night, and hesaid, oh, good night son.
And then my husband said, Ellen'shere too, and I said good
night Roy, sleep tight. Andso the last words my father in law
said were good night, Ellen, sleep tight. And then that was it.
(07:54):
He fell asleep and he didn't wakeup, and then we got the
call well and may he rest inpeace. He was a fun, funny
man who told great stories and wonevery game, Like every game, every
he would hit my ball and croquethe'd send it. Yea. He did
not care. He would beat Calvinat Monopoly, stories of yeah, I
(08:16):
know, yeah, he's a kid. Here's the thing. He's a sleeper.
He would lie and wait, andthen he would come in that last
minute and just decimate everybody. SoI know that he's doing all those things
in heaven right now. But yeah, it's it's huge losing a parent.
It's hard. I've learned, youknow. I just think that live near
(08:39):
your parents, are as close asyou can to them, bring them to
you as often as you can.If you're not near them, stay close,
make them laugh, reminisce, listento their stories, even call them
every day, text them, youknow, just that contact. It's just
so important. We had more contactI think with my father in law this
year as he was in declining health. Then we had another you know,
(09:01):
in a long time, and mepersonally because I'll call my dad, but
it would always be my husband callinghis parents and and you know, we
got to really reminisce a lot ofgreat stories and it really is incredible.
I'm just hearing you and Darlene kindof talk off the air a minute ago,
because dar you lost your father inlaw, and like, it's it's
incredible what the memories that people havecan do for you, you know,
(09:24):
like hearing them share stories, OhI remember when this happened or that,
because at that point that's all youhave. Yeah, yeah, it's beautiful.
Uh huh. So I'm excited foryou guys to hear more in the
coming days. I know it's sad, but I think you guys are going
to be filled with a lot ofjoy too. Yeah. Sharing the stories
it was so healing for our family. Yes, and anytime somebody came to
(09:46):
offer their condolence, which, bythe way, condolence I was looking up
the word. It's a Latin root, so it's gone with the pain,
like with pain, that's what thewind means, which I thought was so
interesting. Anyway, when they wouldcome to do that, they would share
stories about our father in law,and it lit up the room like,
yes, we wanted more. Anystories you had, it didn't matter how
(10:09):
big or small, but just itit healed our hearts. Yes. Yeah,
Well, you know, my husband'sthe king of overnight trips to Dallas.
So he hustled off to Dallas, came back, We picked up Calvin
at the airport yesterday at Burbank, and so Calvin's home for Thanksgiving and that's
been really good. Then we we'llgo to lax on Thursday to fly back
to Dallas. We're taking the firstflight out. How do you think we're
(10:31):
gonna do oof? Yeah, yeah, you might want to go to lax
after Wednesday's show straight away. That'sgonna be tough. What time the flights
at six fifteen? So you know, we'll we'll haul out of bed at
three or whatever and we'll get downthere. Yeah, and then we'll go
we'll go see the rest of thefamily. You know, it'll make a
(10:52):
good memory, Yeah, exactly. As my dad always says, it's character
building when you go through things, you know. It also in my life
to me about Keanu Reeves. StephenColbert hit him on his show and asked
him what happens when we die? What do you think happens when we die?
At Keanu Reeves? I know thatthe ones who love us will miss
(11:15):
us. That's rest in peace,Roy Senior, We miss you. The

died before her show in Rio Fridaynight, probably due to the heat the
fan win to cardiac arrest, andthen Taylor addressed the crowd she had to
postpone a show. She will notbe at the Chiefs Eagles games tonight because
she's doing the Make Good Show tonight. But her music has been temporarily a
banned Philadelphia ahead of the game ona certain radio station. There's an iHeart

station. No Taylor, Oh mygod, but you know, Patrick Mahomes
came out and said, it's notdistracting everybody, just stop, all right?
What about Shakira? She settled taxevasion suit with our Spanish authorities.
She went to court. It wasactually a day that she was supposed to
start a trial, but she said, look, I had two options,
(12:22):
keep fighting till the end, takingmy peace of mind and that of my
children, stopped making songs, albumsand tours, or just settle. So
she settled. She was being askedfor fifteen million and tax evasions. She
says she didn't do it, soI don't know what the settlement turned out
to be. Taylor Swift once toldus a guy had never done anything crazy
(12:43):
to get her attention, and toTravis Kelsey making a friendship racelet with this
phone number on it. I guessthere hasn't been anything which is good,
so it's like easier. The barset really low for anyone who I date

he's a very handsome, rich footballplayer. I heard that tonight was going

it's in Kansas City that he wasgoing to ask for their hand, like
the parents' approval, really to giveher a ring tonight, that's gonna happen.
Well, he was, but nowshe can't be there. Oh because
of her show. Maybe her parentswill still go. I think her parents
will be there, but I thinkhe wanted her there too. Oh my

his wheelhouse. Think about things inyour life, you know you listening with

it when the rain was here,Yes, that was like forces you.
Yeah, it's funny. We wereat a two year old's birthday party over
the weekend. I was talking tothis mom. She had a two kids
with her. One was an elevenmonth old, the other fifteen year old

(16:47):
he has his nap? And Iwas like, oh, yeah, that's
crazy napping. I'm thinking I napall day every day. But your hack
this morning is about napping. Soadults who take daytime naps have bigger brains.
I was gonna say, ideas similar, Yeah, close to it.
(17:07):
New research out of the University Collegeof London says that short naps during the
day delay the process of our brainshrinking as we age in no way.
Yeah, so they stay bigger. You can get that little little nap And
they do recommend and I'm I don'tdo this all how much? No,
it's it's okay. So you coulddo it every day, but less than
half an hour. Okay, that'skind of what I do. Like when
(17:27):

how I lost my voice screaming onthe roller coasters, well, the roller

social media, I said again, this time with the lights on, and

No? And I don't take naps. That's why my brain is small.
We learned that with your holiday happinesshack. Right, yeah, all right.
(22:56):
Friday, welco up to the badnews that my father in law,
Royce Senior, had passed away peacefullyin his sleep in hospice care. He'd
been on the decline since February, but to wake up like that. We
just didn't expect it. He'd calledhim, we'd talked to him facetimed all
the time. But rest in peace, Royce Senior. He was so competitive.
(23:21):
You know, he won the mileat Uva. He set the mile
record. It was never broken.I don't think anyone to this day has
broken the mile record that he set. Wow. Yeah, so he is
so competitive and he brought that toboard games, to croquet and everything.
But what a love, what alug. So we're having we're having fun
reminiscing about him and looking through photosand talking about his favorite items of clothing,
(23:47):
because something happens sometimes. I thinkas you get older, you might
give your grandma your grandpa a shirtor a cozy sweater and then that's all
they wear. So he did thatwith a this cozy like overshirt that I
bought him, and he wore ituntil it was literally shredded. So then
he became a Dallas Cowboys fan becausehe lived in Dallas up until you know
(24:08):
now, and he wore that almostin every photo. Yeah, maybe it's
just easy, like a uniform, you know, you get up and put
it on. He loved it.So yeah, Alex's go to Inglewood.
You heard me talking about losing myfather in law. Yeah, I'm so
sorry to hear of your loss.My grandfather he passed away last year around
(24:30):
this time of year. Actually itwas very hard, but the family through
members and we don't run from thepain and we actually embrace it and are
there for each other. And Ijust want you to know that. You
know, it's hard, I know, but there's always the memory of having
(24:51):
them, yeah, in your lifethat will always be there. And whether
it's painful to remember, whether it'sa happy memory that we you remember.
You know, my grandpa one timehe was at a red light and he
his foot stopped working right and heslammed his foot on the accelerator and hit
the car. Problem got out ofthe car and went to the bathroom and
left the car there. Oh memorieslike that, yes, yeah, yeah,
(25:18):
yeah, he left the time ofyear, but we remember those summaries
and we all have together, youknow. It's it's it's weird. But
we were also talking about my myfather in law is passing and my mother's
passing. I was the last personto talk to both. So my mother
in law was joking with me shesaid, well, please don't ever call
me to say good night. Sleeptight. Oh no, so me.
(25:47):
Life is so beautiful, you know, we we thankful we have now.
So you know, I've got littlekids and my wife and a home.
So we are We're definitely in God'sgrace. Yes, and I believe you
are there too. Thank you somuch, Alex, No problem, no

(26:55):
I'm going to go see Napoleon onWednesday with my husband son, and
that has a sixty six on Rottentrace. It's like polarizing. It's getting
it's waking Phoenix, it's getting horribleor use and amazing reviews. Is that
super long? I feel like itwas really long? Right? This is
it? It's like two something inthe theater. But Apple is going to

Also, what about this, Expertssay the necktie is never coming back.
Our CEO of iHeart can't stand neckties, and he's going to be happy

to hear this research. The postpandemic office now includes our living rooms and
bedrooms. A tie is simply tooformal for such settings, and people aren't
wearing them to work. They're onlywearing the courtroom, trials and weddings.
That's about it, and some goodnews. Stanley Water bottles a our hot

And it's December sixth, Disney,California Venturepark. I literally just got
my voice back after losing it fora few days. Doctor Joe said,

what have you been doing? Whenhe stuck his stick down my throat with
the mirror and then you have toswab everything, I was like, oh
my god. And so then hedoes the test and came back that it
was a bronchial infection. So I'mwaking up with that last week and I
get the news my father in lawhas passed away. He was in hospice

care and I had just talked tohim the night before. I said good
night, sleep tight, Royce Senior, and he said good night, Ellen,
sleep tight. It was kind ofhard for him to talk. And
then he went to sleep and hepassed in the night, peacefully in hospice
care. And to anyone who worksin hospice, who was experienced hospice,

talked about my father in law beforebeing in hospice, and she said that
she is a hospice not caretaker, but she places them. Yes, and
she said, you've never met peoplewith bigger hearts. It's incredible. Yeah,
so it's pretty cool. I pickedup my son. He flew in

he taught me some new words thatI always love to hear what the kids

Why because dogs are like hot dogsand they're good and big and juicy.
And then Franks or Frankfurter's, oh, just kind of like the B team

(41:36):
great. Good for you. Yeah, and you're setting such a great example
Oh yes, my kids are goingto be involved this year. They're old
enough to help out this year,so we are excited. I also have
one if my son can hear mewherever he got. He joined the navy

won't be with us this holiday season. Oh yeah, how long will it
be until you see him? Ithink it'll be a few more months before

Tis the season, except we hada glitch in our holiday plans. So
you get my family together or goingto the smokehouse. Yeah, and then
my father in law, who hadentered hospice passed away overnight really early early
(46:09):
Friday morning. He lives in Dallas, and so we got the news and
we've been reminiscing about him. Thankyou for all your calls all morning long.
It's always so hard to lose aparent, and when you do,
it's so fun to remember all thefun times. I mean, his health
was declining for so long, Ryan, as you know, like last February
(46:30):
we counted the trips my husband hastaken to Dallas. There's eleven trips so
far this year, from March tonow. So it was a lot of
back and forth. But now he'sa piece and that makes us feel better,
you know. I was thinking,he's been married for over sixty years
to my mother in law, Royand Joyce, and they met on a
party line. Incredible, a phoneparty line that's like the original hackers.
(46:53):
Yes, and so he busted inon the party line and she was on
with a couple of her girlfriends attheir apartment building. And she was a
nurse or going to school, Iknow, to be a radiologist, okay,
and so she's talking and then theyhear this guy's voice and it was
my father in law. And soat the time party lines, because I
(47:15):
wasn't here for them, that youcould just jump in and the ideal thing
to do would be to hang upright that's what people expected. Yeah,
I think so, like that wasthe courteous thing to do, is get
off the phone. There are someold movies where you can see, like
the party line happening. Yeah, but yeah, he stayed. He stayed,
and then they dated and then theyfell in love and got married.
(47:36):
So we'll miss you, Roy Sr. But so now we're going to go
there, We're going to go toDallas. We're gonna rave Lax on Thursday.
Well listen, at least you're goingto be with Roy's mom. Yeah,
it's not what you had planned. But you know what's that saying?
You make plans and God laughs atthem. That's right, and that's what
happened to us. I was thelast person to speak with them. I
say good night, sleep tight, and he said good night Ellen, sleep
(47:58):
tight, and then he drifted offcomfortably, which is such a blessing.
Yeah, so we're talking holiday plans. I know you're gonna eat with your
one day in laws. Yes,yes, girlfriend's parents and Maria loves you
cook. Oh my god, Ican't wait. She does both too.
(48:20):
So there's Salvadoran, so I geta little bit of that flavor and then
she does the traditional American. That'sgoing to be so good. Yeah,
it's good to Alex. Alex. Are you hosting and cooking? Oh my
god, No, I don't cook, but my husband's family there love to
cook and they make just about everyplate you can think. So so we
(48:42):
love going to Thanksgiving. We're soblessed to be able to get together and
eat just about anything. Well, that is amazing. Yes, so we're
very happy about all that. Andthat's what that's what our plans are.
And then get ready on Friday andsee what's up for Black Friday? Oh
yeah, yeah, are you goingout, Alex? Is that the plann
(49:04):
Do you venture out there? Yeah? Oh really? Yeah. I get
up. I get up like rightat you know, we get up like
at five. Yeah. And heused to be my husband and I,
but now it's my son and Iand so we're gonna just go see what's
up. You know. Yeah. How smart is Amazon? They're putting football
on on Black Friday so that youstay home and shop on Amazon. Oh
(49:24):
my god, I didn't know that. So I love you guys. I
love your team. In the morning, keep it up, don't ever go
anywhere. We'll be here forever. Thanks Alex. That's right. I love

I think Travis is embracing as muchas he can. So I think it's
okay. He likes attention. He'llbe fine as long as he can handle
it. I don't have any problemswith it. She's a very very nice
person. You think they'll last?I do you think they'll have a baby?
(52:07):
Yes? I do. Pregnant bymart married. Yes. Snoopy's Christmas
