Speaker 1 (00:02):
Giving Tuesday, and we have one of the greatest on
the line right now. Let's take you back, Mystery Voice
to twenty fifteen. Tell us where you were and who
you were playing for at the time.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Twenty fifteen, I was in LA in my second year
playing for the Dodgers, and you.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Were also on Giving Tuesday with the L and K
Morning Show. And here we are ten years later with
Justin Turner.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Dang I said the wrong team.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Well, Justin, it's been quite the journey and we're so
happy that ten years later we're still raising funds together
for CHLA. We know you have your foundation and you
give all year along as well, but it's great to
have a day of recognition and thank you for all
you do for the hospital.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Of course, it is awesome to have this day of
recognition and obviously try to raise a bunch of money
to go to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Who I mean,
they're just a group of extraordinary doctors and researchers and
nurses and everyone who walks in those doors. They make
them feel like family, and on top of that, they're giving,
(01:13):
you know, world class care to these kids who are
battling the unthinkable. So there isn't probably isn't a better
cause to get behind than giving Tuesday and benefiting HLA.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
So we're excited to be here and justin Turner, as
a professional athlete, you walk into a child's room and
make their day. Tell us how that feels for you.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
It's hard to describe or put into words, right. You're
going in there to brighten up a kid's day and
take their minds off of you know, that little room
they're sitting in and the machines they're plugged into and
the constant beeping of their monitors, and you're trying to
be this bright spot. And what happens is you end
(01:54):
up spending uh, you know, an hour with these kids
and learning about them and here their story. And not
just the kids either, you know their siblings, their their
mom and their dad and their family that's in the
room with them, and they're all going through it as well.
And you walk out of the hospital and you know,
with the intentions to give something to these kids, and
(02:14):
when you walk out, you realize you know they gave
something to you. And that's just this awesome perspective and
outlook on life, and you know everything is so hopeful
and the fight that they have in them and the
courage that they have to go through this and stare
right in the face is remarkable. So as much as
we go in there to try to provide a bright
(02:35):
spot for these kids and families, you know, you walk
out of there and it's just the opposite. They kind
of provide that for you.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
So true. I'm crying too as you go to coach
one of three five dot com slash chl A. But
that's the destination to go to give and Justin. We
know that you have your foundation as well, and you're
always doing events.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah, Yeah, the Justin Turner Foundation and started back in
twenty seventeen and we're still going strong. We just wrapped
up our ninth Annuel Justin Turner Golf Classic, which was
a miracle in itself that we got in with the
atmospheric river we were dealing with that weekend. Ryan was kind
(03:18):
enough to come up there and mc our kickoff party
and was brave enough to run an auction, a live
auction for the first time I.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Will do anything great for you.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
That was daunting and I really have to think twice
next year. You did awesome, and that's not an easy
thing to do. I think getting up there in front
of a group a bunch of people and asking for
money and trying to encourage them to give more money
is very difficult. So we're just very glad that you
said yes and came up there and helped us out.
(03:52):
And I know everyone got a lot of good laughs
and we raised a lot of money of the success.
So you were successful, buddy.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, so were you.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Some was my wing man. I wouldn't let him off
the stage.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
I wasn't doing that alone.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Well, Justin Turner, here's a ten more years. Let's do it,
and we're gonna we're gonna make that million dollar marks
this year. We said it out loud several times. Yeah,
we're starting strong and uh and we're so grateful for you.
Thank you, Justin.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, get out there and give. You know, obviously whatever
you can, even even the smallest amounts, they all add up.
So uh, I promise it's going to make a difference
in a family's life. So let's get to a million.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
There you go, Thank you, Jessin, Thanks buddy.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Thanks guys. Host one of three point five. When you're
over the river and through the woods stream the llen
k Morning show on the iHeartRadio app.
