Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are on demand. The llen k Morning Show had
a very special episode for you.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Right now, we are joined by the wife of NFL
superstar Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Welcome Kelly Stafford to our show.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yay, Kelly here. This has been a manifestation years in
the making. When how long ago did you start your podcast?

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Oh? I know, it's how long we've been here? So gosh,
almost four yes exactly.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
My husband and I are addicted, and so he's like,
you gotta get Kelly Stafford in on the show because
I love your honesty and you're kind of like your
your your forthrightness, your direct.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
I feel like sometimes my honesty gets me into trouble,
but I'd rather who I am right and in this world,
in this day and age, everyone has to be perfect,
and I'm just kind of tired of it.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
You are the reason I started it.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Good. That's great, It's refreshing.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Wow, it's refreshing to me too, like me getting out
there and saying what is truthful to me and being vulnerable.
It helps me move past things too, So I feel
like it hopefully helps everyone.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Involved well, and you said some very truthful things about
dating your now husband, yes or lack.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
They're out dating. We don't know. Yeah, we don't know it.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, we don't know. But see, so you've always been
honest and direct.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
I have, Yes, that's always very important to me. I
have four daughters that you know, I want to raise
them to be themselves and be honest with themselves and
also honest with Matthew and I. So I think it
starts at the home, and I think Matthew and I
try to stay true to who we are. And it's hard,
but and you're going to get backlash and all that stuff.

(01:42):
But as long as you're kind of confident in your
values and your views, then you just keep going.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
So what is it like being the wife of a
pro football player?

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Like?

Speaker 1 (01:51):
What is the day to day? Because when I see pictures,
let's just go baseball, Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Kik Hernandez shirtless, I'm like, that is a yummy gentleman.
He is, and I just think of that person being
my person. And you have that athlete in your bed.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Yes, Luckily enough, my husband doesn't go shirtless too often.
But also it tends to be a quarterback thing. And
if you saw like the Patrick Mahomes, like they all
have like the dad Bob, which I seriously respect and
love because it gives me a little, i don't know,
feeling like I don't have to be perfect either, Okay,
but being the wife of someone a professional athlete, I

(02:35):
mean there's a lot that goes into it.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
But on a day to day basis, yes, pretty.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Much normal life. Normal.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Yeah, Like we wake up this morning.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
He is the day off today, so we took the
kids to school, We went to the book fair, had
our kids scream and yell about the things they wanted,
and had to sit there and say, can't have it,
can't have everything.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
I mean it's pretty.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
It's like it's like a normal family life dated it. Yeah,
but what about food? Do you run of food all
the time?

Speaker 3 (03:01):
No?

Speaker 4 (03:01):
No?

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Well luckily again, like I think you're thinking of like
the three hundred and fifty jacked.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Linemen that are that are chasing my husband.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Yes, they're the ones eating that eating the food out
of the house. But you know, he's actually pretty Matthew's
pretty regimented. I mean I feel like sometimes I eat
more than him, Like can we I've been talking about
putting weight on him for the past year. It's like
you're getting your butt kicked, and every time you hit
that turf, you have no cushion. He's no cushion right now, okay,
which worries me. I'm like, you break your tailbow. Yeah,

(03:32):
he's you know. And also he's just getting older, so
I'm like, you know, maybe some cushion will help.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Well, there's that aspect of it. Also is the danger
of football. It's real, yes, and so he's been very
fortunate that he hasn't had the you know.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
As we know, yes, yeah, which that's yes, yes, that's honestly.
What's really fearful about this whole this sport in general,
especially when it comes to the concussion stuff. Those they
don't see, the symptoms don't seem to appear until later
on in life that are really serious. And I know
my husband's had concussions. He knows he's had concussions. He
was also in the league when concussions weren't taken as

(04:09):
seriously as they are now.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
I'm very grateful that they're taking them more serious.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
I still think there's a long way to go there,
but that the scariest part for me is that the
man I married and the man I fell in love
with is not going to be the.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Same man in twenty years. Oh, and that's that's really hard.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Do you guys have talks about that all the time?

Speaker 2 (04:29):
You do?

Speaker 1 (04:29):
We do, And I feel about that.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Kind of the same, you know.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
He tells me he's very careful. He tries to me
very careful. But I think we all saw Detroit last year,
and there's I get the competitive part of it.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
I also grew up playing sports, so and not at
this level.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
I can only imagine at this level and being the
leader of the team. If you feel like you can
still play, he's going to be out there. And so
unless it's a physical situation where he can't functionally do it,
normally you can get by with a concussion and still play.
And that's what's scary about him.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
You know, you don't really know. So we do talk
about it a lot. My daughters have.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Actually, one of my daughters is very in her feelings,
one of my oldest, and she was in tears one
day after a game, begging him not to play anymore.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
And I think that got to him more than anything,
you know, And.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
We're getting close, He's getting closer, and I am welcoming
that very much. So not saying I won't miss watching
him play, I definitely will, but I'm also welcoming that
new chapter.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
So will he go broadcasting?

Speaker 3 (05:41):
You know what, he did his first broadcasting on Fox
and didn't great. I honestly loved watching him, but I
thought he looked very handsome. So yeah, so that is
a possibility. It just that keeps him close to the sport.
I think a lot of these guys don't know what
to do. I think it's a really hard transition, especially
when it's been sixteen years in the pros.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
But that's your whole life basically that you've worked for
this moment, So it's a hard transition.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
If he can stay near it, I think it'd be
good for him, So I would love him to do that.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Also, I need him out of the house. Can we can't.
I can't do this whole like never there and then always.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Their situation would be a shocker.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yes, it would, So I do think he's wanting to
do something like that.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah, well, let's talk about your live show. So how
did this idea come about? And what happens during your
live show?

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Are you Q and a Girl?

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Well, we do do some Q and a but mostly
it's talking about the same kind of things we're talking
about our podcast, but we get a little more intimate
just because there's not media who can pull from it
and make headlines. Yeah, because it's not taped or anything
like that, So it's it's a little more fun. It
came about just because honestly, I love the podcast, but
I feel like I am so much better about talking

(06:55):
like with people than at people on a podcast. You know,
you're just talking basically at well no one when we're
talking about you know, you're a body. Yeah, why, it
is more fun. You get to interact. We usually stick
around and hang out for a little bit afterwards to
get to know some of the people that came in.
But it really is just kind of banter back and
forth with my co hosts like it does on our podcast,

(07:16):
and then we do a little Q and A. But
if there's anyone special in the audience too, sometimes we
bring them up. Okay, members, or I know, Matthew's coming
this Saturday, so try and get him there.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Yeah, we'll see.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
But yeah, so if you are a fan of Matthew,
then you could come because he'll be there.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
So there, Okay, that's that way.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Through the door.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Kelly, why not? Why not? I'm just kidding. We'll probably
hide him, but you know he'll be there.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Well, let's play a game, Kelly or Matthew. So if
it's a Kelly, it's something that you do. If it's
a Matthew, it's something that he does.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Okay, everything good me, everything bad?

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Him? All right.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
I'm the sentry so at the end of the day,
at night, I'm the one who does the perimeter and
life everything up.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Who does that?

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Kelly or Matthew?

Speaker 4 (08:02):
Kelly?

Speaker 1 (08:02):
All right? Kelly? Who does the laundry?

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Ooh, neither of us. I pride myself on being honest.
I hate saying it, but neither of us do it.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Well, you're busy people with four with four children, A
lot of.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
People help out with the kids laundry mostly, but yes,
that is it's a lot.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
So your girls want a certain hair do they found
on TikTok? Who's doing that? Kelly or Matthew?

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Definitely me.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
You gonna say Matthew.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
No, he's very good at a ponytail. I'll give him that, okay,
But that's that's it. And he doesn't know what TikTok is.
So you'd be like, what is this, all right?

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Who's in the kitchen Kelly or Matthew? Matthew Matthew is
what's his specialty?

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Oh gosh, he's very good.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Really, yes, Like we always joke if he doesn't go
into broadcasting or step of his golf game, he's going
to be a chef.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Why not? I mean seriously, like that's one of the
hottest categories.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Now he's in the kitchen with Frank Sinatra plane a
little glass of wine.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
I mean it is very.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Sat red usually okay, yeah, California caps or does he
go like a barolo or sometime.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
A lot of French wines.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
We did just recently go to Appa for our first
time ever, so I'm sure we'll be incorporating those Napple
wines as well.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
But all right, who who who has to Who gets
over served first?

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Kelly or Matthew.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
Oh y, that's me. It's very true, too many, too
many times, unfortunately. But he takes care of me, so
that's fine, okay, And then I feel like I have
the excuse of.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
The morning Dick.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
I'm so sorry I can't do the kids. He's like, okay,
so much, you know, it works.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Out so the house all of a sudden is full
of people who invited them.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
Kelly or Matthew definitely me. Okay, yeah, Kelly, Matthew is
an introvert.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Oh, because I picked you. The whole team over there.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Oh, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
We used to hope, and we're actually hosting a Halloween
party this year for the Rams.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
But when we were in Detroit, we.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Hosted every year, and I swear every year i'd turn
around and he'd be gone because we hosted in our home.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
He go to sleep. Okay, I'd still be down with.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Half his team trying to figure out how to get
him out of the house, and he's already in bed,
pat like out cold.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
I'm like, okay, here's how you get him out of
the house. Because this happened to me, I hosted a
baby shower. It started two pm. By eight pm, oh
my gosh, yeah, it was still like thumping, and we
had to go somewhere else and I had my four
year at home. So I have a friend in the military.
I gave him a whistle. He literally stood at the

(10:28):
top of the stairs and just blew the whistle and said,
everybody get up. And everyone was drunk enough that they
didn't realize how rude that was.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Oh well, I'm okay, that's actually really great to know.
I hope everyone's just as drunk as this haulween party
so they.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
Don't think it's ready, because I will be taking that
on everybody else.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
I mean I told him. I was I'm like, can
you not just be like, hey, I'm going you know,
it's been a great night. I'm just I'm going to
go to bed if you guys don't mind, like you
kind of getting No, He's like, but they're having so
much fun.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
Yeah, someone has stays like, I know you got it.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
It's like you're the one that likes parties anyways, Okay,
got it. So yeah, it's definitely me who's waiting till
everyone's gone.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Well, the show is live, it is Saturday. Matthew is
going to sneak in.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Yes, don't actually come if you want to see Matthew
because I can't promise us.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
I love the name, the cleat Chaser Tour.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Oh yes, well leaned into it.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Yeah why not?

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (11:21):
You don't have this.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
I'm just gonna there's a there's a thing that's been
brewing over the last few years, like this quarterback Wives Club.
It feels like it's gotten more sort of of attention,
a focal point, right the girlfriends, the wives of the quarterbacks.
How do you fit into that group?

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Do you? I honestly have I promise you have no
idea what you're talking about talking about either. Yeah, So
I would say there is definitely a more emphasis on
the wives and girlfriends because of Taylor Swift.

Speaker 5 (11:48):
Okay maybe, and maybe that's what I'm based on it.
I feel like we see them more and where they.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Yeah, so you normally they're not just quarterback wives, Okay,
there Honestly, there's a bunch of wives and girlfriends in
the within the NFL that have made something of themselves.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
And so that's the way. See which I love for these.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Girls because a lot of time, and I've talked about it,
I was very hesitant to put myself out there to
try to take advantage of a platform that I was
given through my husband. And I'm so honestly proud of
the women who are doing it right off the bat,
because you know what, why not everyone else takes advantage
of situations like why are we not allowed to all
of a sudden?

Speaker 4 (12:25):
So I think it's great. I love that they're doing it.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
I also think as much as people are very interested
in what we do, we from my point of view,
we're very normal. We're just married to people who are
very talented at a game.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Well, and there's a lot of interest.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
And so that's why I think, you know, I find
it super interesting, you know, not just from the bedroom aspect,
but Kelly, like I, like we mentioned earlier, but just
for life, you know, Yeah, yeah, it.

Speaker 5 (12:54):
Is fascinating, and there's a there's a starving the interest
for what you guys do.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
I know, and that it makes it very That is
very intriguing to me because I'm like, what, I just
don't even I don't know what's interesting. I get why
people are interested, but I feel like if you stuck
a camera next to us, which we would never do,
but if you stuck a camera in our home, you'd realize, oh.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Yeah, they're not that interesting. They're kind of boring.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
What maybe they're going to do is Netflix is going
to do a series on football players like they did
with basketball The Starting Five.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Yeah, have you watched that?

Speaker 4 (13:24):
Yes? They have.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
It's like everyday life and I know that there's hard knocks,
but what about taking like some of these quarterbacks.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
They so they do quarterback.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
It's called quarterback, okay, And we have been approached multiple.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Times for it and no, no, okay. So it's just
too deep of a dive for us.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Yeah, for us, it's just a little We have four daughters,
I mean, and they're getting to an age now where
I think it would have to be their decision whether
they wanted some things out there or not ours.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
So let's talk about your daughters at school.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Obviously, their friends know that what their daddy does, yes,
and so he us have a lot of young fans
to It's fun.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
It's good and bad. You know, this year not so good.
The boys kind of pick on my girls a little.
Oh no, yeah, but you know what, it's okay.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
I told them.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
I was like, we were a house for full girls.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
So a little picking on by boys isn't really terrible
for me to consider because I'm like, right, you gotta
get tough somehow, and you know, what they say is
their opinion, and you just keep moving on, keep going.

Speaker 4 (14:30):
But they do.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
It's fun, you know when they go to school and
there's nine jerseys and we actually pulled them last year
from a school and put them in a public school
and it has been so fantastic, and so they get
to wear what they want. So there are a lot
of jersey wearing kids, which is really fun.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Yes, And they'll come home and.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
So and so is wearing daddy's jersey, or so and
so is in Cooper cups, and I mean it's it's
really it is fun. And they're starting to really understand
that daddy is is somebody, yeah right right, which is
what which is good and fun. So yeah, it's it's great.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Joshua Carty is my son's fraternity brother, and I had
the privilege of going to a suite one of those
like floor.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Suites or whatever field suites.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Yeah, and he was warming up right in front of us,
and some of the guys were drunk in the sweet
I was so embarrassed because they're like, Joshua's Calvin's mom,
and they're pointing and he was just so focused.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
He missed the one point.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
But he was so focused on his warm ups and
on all that stuff. I was like, you know what
these guys really then they can they get all the
noise out of their head because there were there were
all kinds of people screaming at him and they really
know how to focus.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
It's pretty amazing.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
And I will say a kicker and a quarterback have
something very in common.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
And Matthew is so impressed with CARTI he I.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
Guess was watching him in camp one day and he
missed a few and got out there for the actual
whatever it was drill and crushed every single one.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
And Matthew walked up.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
He's like, hey, just so you know, like I saw
you turn that around. I was really impressed. Like he goes, well,
every kick is its own kick. It does not rely.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
And that's kind of.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
How my husband, like throws a pick, has to get
back out there like and not think, oh am I
gonna throw a pick.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
You gotta just treat it as one throw every time.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
So my husband really has loved party. I also saw
his dad, I think, waiting after the game and full
on like oh, full on carty jersey and I mean, listen,
he looks great and yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
He's a guy.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
I only met him a couple of times before he graduated,
but but yeah, they were always like you could always
see I was we were talking about this.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Who are we talking about?

Speaker 3 (16:45):
How?

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Oh a high school coach because we do Friday morning
lights and I said, how do we grow these guys
so big? These guys are I just believe how big
NFL player is.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
Yes, and they're so fast. Yeah, like, could you imagine
if your husban's being chased by those people?

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Oh my god, the agility. And then yeah, and my.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Sweet husband doesn't have that kind of you know, he's
love him to death, but it's not in him.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
And we all know that my son was a pop
warner running back and we used to say, look how
fast and he's say, he's not running to something, he
was running away from something.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
So you run your fastest.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Yeah, still though not fast enough.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
And I love you Matthew so much.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
But we got your link up on our blog and
our website. So Saturday night, this is the Hollywood Improv.
What a great place to go and so much fun.
It's the Cleat Chaser Tour. Kelly Stafford, thank you for
coming in. I love finally meeting you. I can't wait
to report back to my husband. I'll be listening to this,
but thank you so much, No.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
Thank you for having me. I had a great time.
I appreciate it.
