Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, good morning to you. Let's get this Wednesday on
the road. Nine, ten September tenth. Happy birthday to you
if you're celebrating today. Today is also a very special
Dodger Day show. Hey Otani pitching Bobblehead Day. I'm Ellen K,
I'm Ryan Mano, I'm producer Mike Gramos, and thank you
so much for being here with us. Coming up, we
(00:20):
have a big show for you. We have the Manhattan
Beach Food and Wine Festival coming up just around the corner.
If you've never been, do not miss it. Forty six chefs, wineries, spirits,
breweries and food. The chefs are there to please you.
That's all they want. They just they're like, Ryan, come
over here. I made these udon noodles with peanut sauce
(00:43):
just for you, and you'll lock eyes. You'll eat it
and you'll say, please, sir. May I have someone.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Okay, she's selling it okay, and she's naked.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
My day it kay Okay. I'm the host of one
of three point five The ellen K Morning Show, host
one of three point five Inside Entertainment with ellen K.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Let's go inside Entertainment. Netflix has ordered a second season
of My Husband's favorite new show, Leanne. It's a multi
camera comedy with old school lap tracks, starring Leanne Morgan,
a comedian. The series premiered with sixteen episodes and spent
two weeks in Netflix Global Top ten. It's really fun.
It's you know what it is, and I say this
(01:28):
complimentary way. It's a it's mindless. You just find yourself
being entertained and sucked in and lapping. It's great writing.
Really one point four billion minutes watched and it's two weeks.
So that's why there's another season. Let's see the mtvvma's
ratings are in and they went up, up, up, up,
about seven million tuned in. They're up like thirty percent
(01:50):
or something. And then the NFL broadcast on September fifth
with the Chiefs and the Chargers, which Chargers one also
got great ratings. You guys, seventeen million viewers nationwide. That
is huge.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
I wonder how many of those millions were just looking
to see if Taylor was going to be there.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
I was, yeah, I mean maybe. But it's said that
the livestream reached audiences in over two hundred and thirty countries,
so that is Taylor's global appeal. Speaking of Taylor. Ten
Lessons for Success is a book good ideas and power moves.
Ten Lessons for Success from Taylor Swift. It's a former
NASA engineer. Her name is Sinead O'Sullivan and she wrote
(02:30):
this book. She said, quote, Taylor Swift has higher returns
than ninety nine percent of hedge funds. She's built a
stronger global corporation than nearly every other American conglomerate CEO.
So this former NASA engineer decided to write a whole
book about it. Taylor building her billion dollar empire, making
deliberate choices, and some of them almost too deliberate, but
(02:52):
still that's a great book. And it is out. And
here she is on Coast twenty three point five, one
upon sign.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
This is Taylor Swift.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
This is post below. This is Miley Cyrus and you're
listening to the L and K Morning Show on Coast
one oh three point five. Let's go to the Manhattan
Beach Food and Wine Festival. It has grown, It had
its first year last year. Coast is a partner with
Manhattan Beach Food and Wine and all this guy Shelby
Shelby Russell started this and thought, why not have our
own festival at the village. Yeah, so what it is
(03:24):
is you go in, you walk through the Iheartheart, the
Coast Heart, and then you're inside forty six different chefs,
twenty wineries, spirits, breweries, and so much food. I'm a
red wine drinker myself. If you believe that chardonay is
a wine, there's plenty of it for you.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Wait, hold on, fuck why okay, get into this? What's
your what's your beef?
Speaker 1 (03:46):
I don't like cold wines and I don't like white wines.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Okay, but that doesn't mean it's not a one.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Well.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
I just feel like, when you okay, let's go back
in history. When you see a king with a chatlice,
what color is that wine?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
It's red?
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Okay. When Jesus drinks out of his cup.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
It's red.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Okay. When just through history and paintings like all throughout
all the periods and the Renaissance everything, it's red red wine.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
There's a ub forty what do they sing Ryan red.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
B color twenty We want to send you to the
festival eight hundred and nine two nine kost.

Show textas anytime at five one oh three five La
wakes up with the ellen k Morning Show.
Speaker 6 (04:29):
You what you guys do?
Speaker 5 (04:30):
You guys are always entertaining love the music.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Of course I put on one of three point.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Five every weekday morning here on Coast one.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
Oh three point five.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
It is your happiness hack. We give it to you
at this time of the morning, every single weekday morning
with Ryan.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Now, Ellen, would you say that in your life you've
ever had you know, what could be called a dirty job? Oh?
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Absolutely. My first dirty job was detasseling corn in Indiana.
Speaker 6 (04:54):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
We would get on the back of a flatbed pickup
truck type thing and there would be like two dozen
bus my brothers, sisters and others. We get five cents
per tassel and you would just pull these tassels off
the corner. Now yeah, I mean, of course there are
machines to do it, but it was a great teenage
job to happen. That was really dirty and really sweaty.
(05:14):
And then I worked on a line in a cafeteria
where I had to have the pies be perfect, and yeah,
that was pretty dirty.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Also when you were when you birthed a cow, oh
that's right, Yeah, I mean you didn't birth the cow.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
But now I didn't birth the cow, but I delivered
the cow that's working at an apple farm with the
head cows. And yeah, this cow went into labor yep,
and I was there and the farmer was too busy,
so he said, go ahead, get on in there and
get that calf.
Speaker 6 (05:44):
Thanks.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
And if I remember correctly, your arm was warm for
twelve hours.
Speaker 7 (05:49):
Oh yes it was.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
I called my dad and I said, Dad, I can't
work there anymore. It was so gross.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
All right, well, this is good, this is good.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
So anyone with a job that uses your hands, whether
it's you know, like sanitation, construction, anything, just like you know, gardening, whatever,
you have never had a dirty job.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
We're a banker. I worked with mommy Ryan with his
pressed shirt and tie.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Monny's dirty.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Meanwhile I'm on the floor in the hay geez, go ahead, okay.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
So things like sanitation construction, even and look, this study
found even exotic dancers, okay, is considered a dirty job.
I mean it's a different kind of dirty job. They
may experience less burnout than those in office roles. So
you know, if you're going to the office and you're like, oh,
I don't like this, job.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Maybe think about doing some with your hands.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Is it the physicality of it? It is?
Speaker 4 (06:36):
So there's there's so the science found there's clearer, more
tangible tasks right where office workers are constantly getting interrupted
and like there's this.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Bouncing Okay, so it's like there's a baby cow. Pull
it out. That's it, okay, Post one O.
Speaker 3 (06:50):

Speaker 1 (07:00):
If you've seen this yet or heard about this bit.
It's called geographic tongue and Kate McKinnon suffers from it,
you know, the comedian. Yeah, so it's a harmless condition,
but it causes patches of your tongue to resemble a map.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Ellen, What are my exes had it?
Speaker 8 (07:14):
No?
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Way? Yes? No, which one?
Speaker 4 (07:16):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Oh okay? Oh wait so okay and she's okay yeah yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
It's just the weirdest thing.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
It would happen. We'd be like watching a movie and
then she'd stick her tongue out and I'd be.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Like what, Yeah, Yeah, it's just it's just kind of
a thing. It travels all over your tongue and it's
not harmful. Yeah, but it's it's it's kind of fine
Kate McKinnon. She said that sometimes her tongue looks just
exactly like South America.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
It's the Ellen k Morning Show. Well, listening to your
guisan radio station on the way to.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
School, like to Ellen for advice because she's seen a
thing or two.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
She is Ellen, Okay, guys, here we go. I hope
I can make it through this one. It's such a good,
feel good. Dear Ellen, my name is Benny, and I'm
writing to you because I want the world to know
about my youngest daughter Ruby. At just fifteen years old,
Ruby has shown our family what it means to have
a heart bigger than any challenge. This past year, Ruby
(08:18):
beat leukemia. We are so overjoyed and deeply relieved that
she's healthy. But what's really astonishing is what Ruby chose
to do next. Instead of moving on, She's dedicated herself
to helping others who are still fighting. In her free time,
Ruby hand makes dolls and sells them, giving all proceeds
to leukemia at research. Whenever our family travels, she asks
(08:40):
to visit hospitals so she can deliver crafts and handwritten
notes to children undergoing treatment. Each note is filled with
encouragement and hope, reminding them to never give up. We're
a family of six and we celebrate Ruby every single day.
But today I want to celebrate her in a way
she'll never forget by sharing her story with you, Ellen
and your audience. Ruby's our hero and we couldn't be
(09:03):
prouder of the kindness, the resilience, and the love she
brings into this world. Thank you for listening to a
father's joy and pride. Ruby inspires us every day, and
I hope she can inspire others too with gratitude. Daddy Benny,
that's so beautiful. You know, Benny, A lot of times
these letters come and they might be a relationship challenge,
(09:25):
but this is just such a heartwarming, beautiful letter about
fifteen year old Ruby doing good in the world.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
You love to see it. Yeah, and especially at that
age too. You know, one good deed as a child
can inspire another child to go that path.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
All right, right, Ruby rang that bell and then she
just jumped into action. And Benny, thank you so much
for your feel good letter. If you can relate to
Daddy Benny and you have a story like Benny's, you
can write us a letter or call us. It's eight
hundred and ninety nine KOs two celebrate you here today
(10:02):

Speaker 1 (11:48):
I love it. I mean I don't love it, but

Speaker 7 (12:09):

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Okay, all right, Alba. Well, we just want to know
what you think. This is the sneakiest excuse cheaters used

Speaker 7 (12:18):
The phone battery has died.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Their phone battery has died.
Speaker 8 (12:24):

was dead, and you, Alba, are going to Hollywood Bowl,

It's the LK Morning Show and it's you every day.
I love you, guys, Coast one oh three point five.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
Thank you for having us on at work, in your
car wherever you are. A lot of kids in the
car right now, going to school, parents dropping off. We
know that life gets busy and stressful, but we just
got this talk back from Jim. It's definitely a parental reset.
Speaker 7 (13:01):
Good morning.
Speaker 6 (13:01):
My youngest son just started college. Now we have the
empty nest syndrome.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
I miss him already, Oh Jim.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
So many of us have been there. I mean for
all those years. You hear the footsteps coming through the door.
You hear the shower turning on music and the shower,
friends coming over, the laughter, even the the just the chats,
serious things, every day things. It's the everydays that it's really, really,
(13:30):
really hard to get over. My friend Andy Patronik dropped
his son off at college also, and I think this
might help you, Jim, and help a lot of us.
Listening Andy's words about embracing the empty nest the tears.
Speaker 8 (13:46):
They remind me of bedtime stories of him playing ukulele
around the house, of all the extraordinary moments that were
actually there were ordinary moments that were extraordinary. If I
push the grief away, I push that connection away too.
So what I'm learning is that transitions aren't just about
(14:09):
moving forward. They're about letting yourself fully feel what's here now,
the grief, the joy, the fear, the wonder. In a
strange way, it's the gift of being alive. If I
close the door on sadness, I close the door on love.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Uh huh huh. I need mean to cry so much today.
Tere's a joy. Yeah, so absorb.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
It's the L and K Morning Show.
Speaker 7 (14:32):
That's the only station that is allowed in our office.
We want happy, easy, to keep everybody going throughout the day.

love you.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Coast one oh three point five coming up, we have
the TSO Holiday Show, Honda Center, Trans Siberian Orchestra. Your
chance to win your way in in just a few
But we read a letter to Ellen this morning. About
an hour ago. Benny wrote to us about his daughter,
fifteen year old daughter Ruby. She has inspired so many
because she beat leukemia and now she's spending all of
(15:03):
her time and energy helping other kids who are going
through it, visiting them, writing them notes, making them dolls,
selling dolls, giving all the proceeds to leukemia research. And
Stacy is such a feel good letter. You heard the letter,
You're going through something really similar. You just wanted to
share your feel good as well. Tell us your story, Stacy.
Speaker 7 (15:25):
So I'm in remission. November will be three years in remission,
so I'm not considered cancer free yet, but I actually
have a scan tomorrow morning. But yeah, I was diagnosed
with triple negative breast cancer, which means it can't be
treated the way normal breast cancer is normally treated. So
(15:50):
I went through sixteen rounds of chemotherapy, went through thirty
five rounds of radiation, did a single mystectomy, did oral
chemo arapy, and my husband was my rock through everything.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Tell us about him. What's his name?
Speaker 7 (16:05):
His name is Matt. He was greatest. We had at
the time, a six year old and an eleven year old,
and he was great. We both still worked through it all.
He was taking the kids to sports to try to
keep it as frmal as possible. I'm taking them to school,
making sure that I was eating and taken care of
(16:26):
when he was able to make it to my appointments,
made us my appointments with me.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
He just did it all.
Speaker 7 (16:32):
I don't know how he did it, because I would
have I think it was easier to be in my
shoes than his shoes at that moment.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Oh, we're happy to hear your three years in remission.
What was that that one point where your husband's taking
care of you, You're going through all these treatments, and
you just looked at him and thought, my god, I'm
so lucky to have him.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
To be honest, it was being in support group and
seeing how many husbands leave their wives when the while
they're going through this. I didn't realize it. I just
I don't know if I took it for granted or
just expected him to be there. I don't know what
it was, but reading how many has been leaved during
this and realizing, oh my god, he's still here and
(17:15):
never thought that that was a possibility, but realizing how
often and how common it is. Yeah, I found a JEM,
and I found a jem.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
So did he?
Speaker 6 (17:25):
Well?
Speaker 5 (17:25):

These are all boys in your family right there, Mike.
I know you have brothers ancestors as I do as well.
But for the first time in one hundred and eight years,
(19:46):

last femal born into the Sherman family was Michael's great
great aunt Aura Sherman in nineteen seventy. Oh wow, Okay,

Speaker 1 (20:10):
LNK Morning Show. And just did this with my son Calvin.
We built furniture. You guys, I want to give both
of us at a plus. We built a bed with drawers.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Okay, job, no question, real question?
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
How many times did either of you lose your temper?
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Let's see, it wasn't losing our temper. It was we
had to get up because it was hurting our knees
and our backs, like both of us, we just had
to get up, shake it off and then take a
break and come back. Sure, it just it took a
long time. Yeah, but you know, with drawers, it's really tricky.
And there's a survey that was just done. It said
(20:49):
that doing it yourself actually gives you a confidence boost.
So if you can do a project all by yourself,
this one was with Calvin and he's the smart one.
But we did it and it felt really good that
it gives you so much confidence. The most intimidating tasks
include installing floors and calking the tub. Yeah, so before
(21:11):
you do, you might lose your temper on that one.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
So wake up with Ellen K.
Speaker 7 (21:16):
