Scott Stevens and hopefully by now you'veheard us talking about the upcoming out of
the Darkness community walks for the AmericanFoundation for Suicide Prevention, including the one
in Lunchburg coming up October seventh atPeaksview Park. That's a new location for
us, having been at the riverSide there many many years in downtown Lunchburg.

(00:24):
Well, there's some big remodeling goingon there, so for this year
only, we've moved the festivities toPeaksview Park on October seventh, The walk
starts at ten am. I'll tellyou how you can register a team or
how you can be a corporate sponsorto help support the American Foundation for Suicide
Prevention and the great work that wedo. We work really hard, but

(00:46):
it takes funding. And with thatin mind, we wanted to say thanks
and welcome to the broadcast here today. One of our sponsors, we have
Keith Man, who's the COO CFOof Scott and sure A, how are
you doing there? Keith, Hey, Scott doing doing well. I hope
you're doing well. Thanks for havingme today. Yeah, well, thank

(01:07):
you so much for joining us andmost importantly, thank you so much for
your support of the Out of theDarkness Walk for Suicide Prevention. First of
all, tell us a little bitabout Scott Insurance for those who don't know.
Yeah, so, for those ofyou who don't don't know U.
Scott Insurance is an insurance broker basedhere in Lynchburg, actually headquartered here in
the Lynchburg region. We've actually beenin business since eighteen sixty four here in

(01:29):
the community and we are a proudcitizen, a proud member of the Lynchburg
community, and just so happy tobe a participant with the Suicide Prevention Walk
this year. Well that is awesome. Well then in that case, tell
us a little bit about why ScottInsurance is supporting suicide prevention, mental health
and specifically the Out of the DarknessWalk. Yes, Scott, one of

(01:53):
our missions, we're our mission hereat Scott Insurance is to serve, protect,
and improve the lives of our colleaguesand client and really that extends into
the community as well. We extendthat mission to the community through our charitable
foundation, which is the Scott CaresFoundation, which is dedicated to supporting nonprofits
and organizations making a difference in thecommunities where we live and work. And

(02:14):
again we are based here in Lynchburgand we want to support Lynchburg. One
of the areas of focus of ourScott Cares Foundation is health and wellness,
and you know, historically and growingup here in the community, have understood
that there's there's many threats against thephysical well being that we have, but
there's definitely a growing understanding and areception for the challenges that we all face

(02:37):
with mental health, and those mentalhealth challenges for individuals in our community are
are are great as well, andwe were proud to support again a wide
range of local efforts that empower individualsto live well. And again just you
know, grateful for all the folksthat work hard to give people the resources
that need they need for mental healthas well well, no doubt about it.

(02:59):
I'm that you mentioned mental health thereas part of what you guys are
trying to support. I know, for me in my time being on the
state board for the American Foundation forSuicide Prevention, you know, mental health
doesn't get the same priority as asphysical health, and you know, in
a lot of ways the two areso connected and it's very important to give

(03:21):
mental health the same priority that wegive physical health. Yeah, I agree.
I think mental health has been gettingmore attention, but it is still
not probably getting the attention that itneeds. I just I'm so grateful that
it's not that maybe does not havethe stigma that it did when I was
growing up and coming up here inthe Lynchburg community. And just get so
grateful for the folks that are bringingawareness and giving some channels and giving resources

(03:46):
to people that may be going throughsome challenging times. And if you need
help, you know, there's plentyof resources to get help. I think
utilizing the afsp SP website you know, definitely is one resource of many here
in the community. Is grateful forall the folks that provide the help that
many folks need. Now, inaddition to your support as a corporate sponsor,
you guys actually have employees participating inthe walk itself coming up on October

(04:11):
seventh. Yeah, this, Ibelieve, Scott. This is a third
year we've sponsored the walk. Wehave a team from Scott. We've had
a team from Scott participate officially forat least two years beyond that, so
really five years We've had some engagementand really had an engagement for three years
in a formal way. We werehappy to be a sponsor this year.
For the last several years, we'vecommitted to matching donations up to a thousand

(04:34):
dollars each year with our organization. If we combine our sponsorships and individual fundraising
that our team members have done,I think our contribution towards this event is
approaching about twenty thousand dollars over thelast five years. That is outstanding and
I can tell you it's money wellspent. I've seen firsthand the work that
the money is doing out there. So in addition to that, I know

(04:57):
that you talk about supporting the communitymental health in the community, but within
your own walls, does Scott Insurancetake steps to make sure your employees have
good mental health? Yeah? Wedo. I think we take both the
steps for our internal employees but alsoour clients. As a company. We
provide employee benefit services to our clientsthroughout the Mid Atlantic and we have a

(05:20):
focus of support there as well.Employers have a big role to play and
helping individuals and their families live well. Traditionally this has been more of a
focus on physical health as we talkedabout earlier. And you know, I'm
grateful that our employee benefits team hereand what we do internally as an organization,
we're increasing and we're seeing the increaseand seeing the need and supporting the

(05:45):
need for and shining a light onmental health resources for all those involved,
for both employers and employees. Well, that is awesome. Well, we
appreciate your support, and I knowthat you'd probably like to take a moment
before we close to encourage their businessesout there to support this cause. Yeah,
yeah, definitely take a look atthe website. You can google you

(06:08):
know, you can google the event. You can look at the AFSP Virginia
website. You know, any otheremployees, I'm sorry, employers and employees
that are interested in participating in theevent this year, would would really encourage
you to come out on the seventhand participate in the walk, raise money,

(06:30):
help the folks that need to helphere in the community. All right,
Well, we appreciate It's Keith Manfrom Scott Insurance. They're big supporters
of the Out of the Darkness Walkand the work of the American Foundation for
Suicide Prevention and Good Mental Health ingeneral in our community. If you want
information, the website that Keith wasjust talking about is AFSP dot org slash

(06:53):
