Speaker 1 (00:06):
Come on, ladies and gentlemen, Taylor Hicks, you get a
lot shouts better not you, better not pound.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
I'm telling you why sin.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
The closest coming to te sine, the closest comment.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Y is the one and only Taylor Hicks and little
Christmas Holiday Fun.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
There and Taylor joins us. Now, good morning. So I
hope I didn't wake you up? You were you up
late last night?

Speaker 5 (00:39):
No? No, no, no no. I'm getting older in my years, JT.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
I know, I know, aren't we all in.

Speaker 5 (00:47):
Listen, I've gotta I got a Starbucks is three minutes
from my house up here in Nashville, So listen, That's
that's what I do every morning, is I go to Starbucks. Man,
I'm not uh, you know, I have my I have
my I have my few nights. Trust me, I still
got it in me, but it doesn't come out much anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Look, I got you, buddy, and I love the fact
that you're still out there, and I mean you are
just rocking, and you got a Christmas show coming to
town here at the Lyric Theater. This is all happening
on December twelfth and eight o'clock show performing Van Morrison
and Christmas classics.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I did not realize you're a huge, big Van Morrison
kind of guy.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
I grew up trying to emulate Van. You know, this
is my tip year doing doing this for this local
you know, hometown performance. It benefits Toys for Tots. The
Marines come out and dressed in their blues and we
do a big thing for them, and it's just a

(01:47):
you know, I get involved with the national campaign and
Toys for Tots trying to promote that, you know, because
I've been a part of Toys to Tots probably twenty
years now, and it's good because you know, the physical
you can actually see the physical toy. You buy the
physical toy, you know that that toy is going to
actually go into the hands of a child that needs

(02:09):
it and wants to have a Christmas And there's a
lot of that going on this year. So I'm very
very happy to do it and love the Van Morrison
stuff and happy to do the Hometown show Friday night.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Well, I can't wait. It's going to be so good.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Yeah, So once again it is going to be this
Friday night Lyric Theater, December twelfth, Christmas Classics and some
Van Morrison and you.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Know when you're out and about doing gigs.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Now, Taylor, I mean, you're still obviously extremely active and
getting out and doing shows. And what do you hear
from fans the most about the kind of music they're
liking from Taylor? You know, what kind of feedback you
getting these days and inspiration from your fans?

Speaker 5 (02:51):
They well, you know, they want more of it obviously,
which is a good sign. You know, if I could release,
if I was the type of artist that could release
a song every week, I would, but that's just not
I like to kind of take my time and you know,
slow release stuff. I know that's not the status quo,

(03:11):
so to speak. But uh, you know, I've got some
new music that I'm going to be releasing next year
and probably going to be relying on some heavy touring
in the spring and summer, and I'm pretty excited about
the next year. But yeah, you know, people just want
they want new music, and you know that's kind of
you know what you know it would be. It's no

(03:33):
different than any other product anybody else els you know,
you want it newer and better, and obviously you know
it's not Ai, you know, which I'm a little bit
nervous about. You know as far as actually I've actually
heard some really great AI music if I made, you know,
I mean, there's some really good stuff out there. But no,

(03:54):
it's it's the real deal. And uh next year I'm
going to release some some more music.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
I'm glad to hear that had such great news. Tell
me about Porch Swing your your latest release, you know,
kind of a country bluesy soul thing.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
What's going on here?

Speaker 5 (04:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I wrote that.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
I wrote that listening to John Anderson's Just a Swinging.
I love John Anderson, and I thought to myself, you know,
he kept talking about the Port Front Forks, and he
kept talking about the Port Swing, and I thought to myself,
you know, as anybody ever wrote a love song, you know,
around such an American centerpieces as the iconic Port Swing,

(04:30):
because I know my grandmother had one down in Clanton, Alabama,
you know, And I just thought that, you know, that
would be a good a good subject to write it.
So that's exactly what we did. We wrote it and
it was a nice little country country soul tune. I
released it on the Grand Old Opry last two years ago.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Check this out.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Listen to this a little bit here down from Old
Mill Creek, those crickets started singing, you know, some mellow
and we made up with shop on your favorite Okay, okay,
you got me, you got me on that fact.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
I don't know what kind of money it's gonna take,
but I would like you to come for a little
bourbon tasting, cigar smoking back ports. Absolutely in my place
is spring when the West. Absolutely, and I you know,
just give me the price and I'll get you know,
get my boss to pay for it.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
The country soul thing, you know, Chris Stapleton, you know
all of us country soul guys, you know, all of
us southern kind of soulful guys. You know, Chris used
to send me songs that he would write with other
folks here in Nashville for for my records, just like
everybody else. But you know, he really he really kind

(05:46):
of broke the mold and broke, you know, kind of
broke the damn, so to speak, for for a lot
of these country soul artists to be you know, recognized
and prominent. And I'm just happy that he's kind of
carrying the tour. It still allow me to to release
some music that's kind of in that vein. It's a
little bit popular these days.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Well, I got to tell you, man, you know all
the way from back the day with American idol, and
where you are now and that song and that sound
you've got right now. You're like an age bottle of
bourbon in the barrel or a well aged bottle of wine. Man,
your voice gets better with age, I think every time.

(06:24):
So you're sounding great and I can't wait to see
a Friday Night once again, folks. Lyric Theater tickets available,
Come seek Taylor's Christmas Classics performance and band Morrison Goodies
as well. This Friday Night Lyric Theater. Taylor looking forward
to it, Buddy, thanks for joining me this morning.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
It'd be fun to see it JC. Thanks buddy,
