Speaker 1 (00:00):
Alabama's Morning News. I'm JT and joining us now as
our Attorney General, Steve Marshall. Steve, welcome in, Thanks for
being back with us.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Always good to be with you, JT. All.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Right, before we jump into the scent race and how
all that's going, I do want to talk to you
about the crime summit that you had yesterday in Montgomery.
A lot of folks showed up for this. What was
the purpose of getting everybody together like this, and obviously
crime at the central part of this, But what went
on and what did you discuss.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, it's probably one of my favorite days of the
year when I get to gather together within our case
yesterday over five hundred law enforcement officers around the state.
Opportunity for us to not only communicate directly with things
that we're working on, but most importantly is to be
able to train law enforcement on issues that matter that
are relevant to the day. And we took an opportunity
to bring the leadership for ICE into the training and

(00:50):
talk specifically about the ability to collaborate and cooperate with
programs like two eighty seven G and creating task forces
that allow for there to be a force multiplier and
enforcing our immigration laws. And then we spent significant time
talking about human trafficking and ways that we can go
back that problem. And ended our day with former Beliefs
Sheep Birmingham Police Chief Roper talking about leadership and law

(01:13):
enforcement arena. So it was a great day and excited
to be with my law enforcement officers around the state.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
That's fantastic. I do want to talk to you about
what's happening with this rising crime around our country right now.
It seems that common sense of you know, making cities
safe would be okay on both sides of the aisle,
but anything the President wants to do in these cities
that need it, they're just constant pushback. It's crazy, the
rising crime and the illegal you know situations that are happening,

(01:40):
and they're just pushing back on it. Your thoughts on
how we get through this?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, and also JT threats against federal law enforcement, federal buildings,
people doing their jobs. But you know, the good thing
is that we've seen significant success from the President in Washington,
d C. Just the presence of the National Guard there
being able to supplement with his clearly a depleted law
enforcement agency. With regard to numbers, and you know, seeing
legal victories for the President both in the Ninth Circuit

(02:08):
and his efforts around Portland and seeing similar results and
what he's trying to do in Chicago. But you know,
the reality, JT is this is the culmination of the
defund the police movement where you saw in many of
our blue cities with sores prosecutors that simply don't have
enough law enforcement officers to be able to do their jobs.
And when that happens, the bad guys take advantage. And

(02:31):
so you see, you know, evidence of that even in
our state in Alabama. But the good thing I can
tell you is that that movement itself has been disproven
as effective, and clearly we have an opportunity, as they've
done in Mobile for example, to rebuild law enforcements to
numbers that were pre the advocacy across the country and

(02:54):
excited when you have law enforcement and sufficient numbers able
to do their jobs what they're able to do in
keeping community safe.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Well, I want to get your thoughts as well, right
on the same vein of the fighting the crime and
keeping these bad guys in jail. Governor Ivy spoke out
about the fact that recently somebody was released, and it
seems like every week we got another criminal that's in
prisoner in jail that all of a sudden, Okay, well
it's time to let them out, and sure enough, you know,
within a week they're back in again for kimbinning more crimes.

(03:23):
Your thoughts on how this happens and why it happens.
I know you're the biggest law man in the state,
but the judges in DAS and what goes on with
releasing and the decision there on that type of situation.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
There's no doubt that the law itself allows for bonds
for individuals to get out with regard to certain crimes.
I think we've seen significant progress with the legislature and
an Eye as law and really appreciate the leadership of
an Eye of Blanchard's family and being able to allow
that to be a tool in the toolbox for prosecutors
to keep individuals in. But you know, when you see

(03:58):
the incident that took place Intgomery, it's again a reminder
of what can happen when potentially folks were able to
be released too soon before the criminal justice system has
his opportunity to be able to work, and when we
also know that much of our crime is almost a
response to other criminal activity taking place between rival factions

(04:20):
of gangs or other groups. The ability to incarcerate is
critically important, and so I think there will continue to
be that discussion with the legislature. But I know that
we've made progress in Alabama, but definitely more we need
to do well.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
President Trump ran on getting this country back in shape
as far as the illegal immigration goes. He secured the
border and also making our cities safer again in the
fight and war against the drug situation in this country.
He has promised it, and he's coming through and bringing
those things to fruition. Recently, he's getting a lot of
slack for blowing these drug boats up in the water.

(04:56):
And you came out and said total support, and you
know the people who here's the due process. You know,
I got to think the president makes the move or
Pete Hegseth makes the move and says, look, we did
our due diligence and we know these are drugs coming
in towards our country, and we've made it clear around
the globe this is where we're going to fight again.
So your thoughts on that, I know you came out
in supported the President on that.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, when we talk about domestic terrorism, one of the
greatest threats to this country is what the cartel is
bringing in to the border of the United States. I mean,
over twenty two thousand pounds of cartailed smuggled fentanyl crossing
into the United States, which would kill an entire American
population fourteen times over. The fact the President's trying to

(05:39):
aggressively attack those cartel trafficking rings is not only a
law enforcement issue, it's a public health issue for us
in our state, and we believe the Commander in chieve
has the authority to take that action.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
All right, let me get real quick with you on
the center race. Now we're getting close. I know you're
a busy guy in your current position, but talk to
me about your campaign, your team, and you know where
you're heading. Your direction on priorities is if you're the
US senator next.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Yeah, we're all over the state duty and having a
chance to meet with people. It's one of the greatest
things about being on the campaign, as you just see
so many great folks across Alabama that care desperately about
this country, and the good thing is they've seen what
we've been able to do as Attorney General. We've taken
on the tough fights and been able to deliver results.
It's why I think you've seen fifty sheriffs and DA's endors.

(06:25):
We have farming coalition from all over our state. We've
had endorsements from Alpha to our building and contractors groups,
and so pleased with that. But I think folks understand
that I'm going to go up there and stand strong
for Alabama values and fight hard for the principles that
matter the people of our state and absolutely make Alabama

(06:46):
first as we continue to support President Trump and what
he's going to be able to do and at that
point will be the final two years of his administration
to get his agenda which was driven by the massive
votes of this country support of him across the finish line,
and continue to be able to push that moving forward.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Well, Steve, keep up the fight, doing a great job.
I appreciate you, and good luck with that Senate race
as well, Steve Marshall, our Attorney General. Steve will talk soon.
Thank you, Thank you. Jose
