Speaker 1 (00:00):
Boy, what a crazy mess it is in New York City.
Right now, Todd Sheets join us now, the author of
the newsletter on Wealth and Progress, to talk about Zoron Mandani,
the socialists that's leading the pack as far as candidates
go for the next mayor of New York City. Todd
welcome in, Thanks for being here.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Thank you. JT. Glad to be with you this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
You know, I just don't get the Democrats, period. I
could stop right there. But in New York, you know,
the most one of the most powerful economic cities in
the world, arguably the biggest with the market and the
businesses there, and Mandani now wants to raise taxes on
businesses in charge, going from seven percent to eleven percent,
(00:41):
give or take, which to me sounds like a democratic
you know, tax and spend move here. And all of
his policies are all over the map here. So what
do you think is going on here and why they're
so opposed to capitalism and wanting all the government can
I mean, what's you know, the foundation of where he's
(01:03):
coming from.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, you know, I think one of the most fascinating
things about this is from what I've seen, a significant
part of his support is basically coming from young, you know,
college degree white people who are have basically, I think,
gone into these colleges and been indoctrinated with kind of
(01:26):
socialist you know thinking and education and have basically been
lied to about what the real history of socialism has
been throughout history and everywhere almost everywhere else in the world,
with a few very small exceptions that are clearly not
applicable to the United States. And so you've got these kids,
(01:47):
they've gone to these schools, they've received this indoctrination, they've
run up enormous school debts that they are having a
hard time paying. They have not received an education which
has helped them get a job that can help them
pay off that education, and so they feel frustrated. And
along with all of that, they've been taught at every
(02:09):
possible turn that the problem is capitalism. And so they
hear this so much they think that that's you know,
that's what the reality is. And so the easiest thing
to do is to turn to somebody, a politician who's young,
charismatic like Mamdani or like AOC and who promises the
world for nothing and says that you deserve it, and
(02:32):
the only reason you don't have it is because you've
been exploited by this system of capitalism, you know, that
is allowing the millionaires and the billionaires to take everything
away that should be yours. And I think that's that's
what's happening, and that's what's behind this rise of socialism.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
You know, if you go to college and graduate with
a four year degree after leaving and being indoctrinated by
these liberal professors that push this agenda, and you don't
do your own research when you get on the real world,
you know, shame on you for doing that. So let's
just say that in probably a given that they'll just
take whatever that you know, intelligent professor doctor so and
(03:10):
so must know he's a professor you know, intelligence or
wisdom and take it as you know, the gospel. And
this is how I'm going to live my life now
because my gosh, he told me how to do this.
You know, let's say that they're not going to, you know,
do their own research. What's the what's the fix for
this monstrosity of a wave of sweeping this nation?
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Now? Well, I mean, I think you know, this is
something that I think we're just seeing the end results
of what has been going on for fifty to sixty
years here gradually was gradually increasing intensity. And I think
the fix is what we're seeing here in the United
States and pretty much around the world where you know,
(03:49):
the people in the countries, they know that, especially during
the last twenty to twenty five years, the agenda that's
been run by the political class of increasing government control
in the system, increasing regulation, increasing financialization, and manipulation from
the federal reserve. This hasn't worked for working class people,
(04:11):
and so they're looking for other solutions. In the United States,
we've turned to Trump, and Trump is you know, striking
back against you know, this form of thinking in many
different areas, you know, in the universities and elsewhere. And
I think shows like yours and you know, the things
that I'm trying to do with the Onwealth and Progress
(04:34):
substack pieces that I write, you know, that gets the
message out there is to hey, this is you know,
capitalism isn't the problem, it's the solution, right and socialism
isn't the solution. It's the problem. And we just have
to keep delivering that message to people. But they already
sense it. I think most people already sense it. Well.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
I think it's a pendulum and swinging back. I agree
with you there. The economy is looking stronger and people are,
you know, waking up to this. But you know, if
you're just coming not a college and you don't, I mean,
just google where has socialism ever been successful around the world.
I mean, I challenge anybody to show me where it's worked. Well,
just look up Venezuela for instance. So yeah, you're right, Todd.
(05:12):
We got to keep the message going. Can't stop this,
and you know, we got to stop the insanity that's
coming out of these universities too. Thank you so much. Todd,
the author of the newsletter on Wealth and Progress and
the book two thousand and eight What Really Happened. We'll
have you back soon.
