Speaker 1 (00:00):
Phones are open. Come on in, candidates, voters. Brian DeMarco,
who's running for counsel over there in Vestavia. Brian, good morning,
welcome in, Thanks for being here.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Hey, Budie, thanks for having me. Yeah. I'm running for
place three over in Vestavia Hills. Just got done voting.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Are you running against anybody, Brian?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
I am. I've got two opponents. The spot is vacant.
The incumbent was not running again. So there's two folks
running against me, and then two more in another place,
and then a vote for mayor. So three three different
votes today.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
All right, long talk to me about Brian. White people
driving around Vestavia listening right now should vote for you
as opposed to the other two.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Absolutely. Yeah. I am a lifelong resident of Vestavia. I've
been here forty six years. I've raising my kids here.
I've got four children, three still in the school system.
I went to the same school they're going to.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
I am.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
I am working for the folks here in Vestavia. I mean,
my platform is simple. I'm trying to get this infrastructure
under control. We've got a major stormwater runoff and flooding
issues in Vestavia's I'm sure most people know sidewalks are
always a big deal, and they you know, we desperately
need some investigating, especially around some of the new schools.
They just built one mainly off Columbiana Road where they
(01:10):
have a middle school with about one hundred kids getting
out of school and getting you know, walking up Columbiana
Road with cars zoom and past them at sixty miles
an hour and just not safe. And then board appointments
is one of my big things that people don't really
understand is that, you know, once a city council appoints
a board, it is out of the council's hand. Nothing
they can do. So school board, parkingreg zoning, all those things.
(01:33):
We have got to make the best appointments, not just
these buddy appointments, but we have got to actually put
the best person for the job in those positions or
everything suffers for the next four to five years.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Well, Brian, I really appreciate you. Good luck with your
race today. Thank you for checking in with us.
