Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, the Senate is a journ for the weekend, which
means SNAP will stop tomorrow. At a press conference with
Vice President jd Vance yesterday, Teamster's president Sean Duffy called
on Congress to pass his clean CR, already passed by
the House, and reopen the government.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
I represent one point three million working men and women
in this country for the international brother to team, since
we took a position three weeks ago. Pass a clean CR,
Get to the table, negotiate a DALE. Do not put
working people in the middle of a problem. They should
not be in there. And we got to think about
the families that are going to be affected. Think about
when you have to tell your son or daughter they
can't play sports because you're not getting paid. Think about

(00:38):
when you can't pay a mortgage, think about when you can't.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Pay your tuition.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Put the politics aside, get to the table, negotiate a DALE,
pass a clean CR right now, and then figure out
the problems moving forward.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah that's the Teamster president. That is not our Transportation
Secretary Sean Duffy. But yeah, this is going to be crazy.
And Scott Kirby, who's also the CEO of United Airlines
calling the same thing. He says, Look, this is affect
holiday travel, not to mention these families that count on SNAP.
John Decker joins us now our White House correspondent, John,
I understand as the President was flying home, he's singing

(01:11):
about the nuclear move and killing the filibuster, which would
I guess, simple majority vote kind of move this thing forward.
Is that how that works?

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Well, that's exactly how it works. I don't know if
the Senate will follow the President's suggestion. The reason being
is because once you do that, that means that's in place.
And if Democrats regain control of the Senate, if Democrats
regain control of the White House, they can then simply

(01:38):
get everything that they want through the process by a
simple majority fifty plus one. That's it. That's all that's necessary.
So I'm very curious to see how Senator John Thun,
the leader for the Senate, responds to that social media
post that came out from the President yesterday. The President
leaving the White House this morning, heading down to South

(01:59):
Florida for the week after that long, week long trip
in Asia. So you're right, these deadlines are now upon us.
The SNAP benefits going away because funding's going away. That's
starting tomorrow, and of course we'll see spremiums go up
as well for those Americans who get their insurance to
the Affordable Care Act.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
You know, we talked about this, you and I John,
and when this whole thing started thirty days ago, that
the ripple effects are going to you know, happen, you know,
more and more and more, in fact, more and more
people as this thing continues to go on longer and
longer and longer. And now we're seeing that even the
Veterans' Affair Secretary Doug Collins talking about how the government
shutdown is going to be leaving these military and veteran

(02:38):
families on edges. We get into this whole thing.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Listen, Oh, these are real every day people. It's just
I mean, the story's keeping this piling up and the
hipocrisy rought now sending of the Senate Democrats to continue
this Charay John Fetterman said it best the other night
he had voted for fourteen or fifteen times. So the
Biden sa are this is the same one that these
same Democrats plut forward. And yet now they've moved the

(03:01):
gold post to talk about something else that could be
handled in a different way. But real, you know, real
stories here, real stories and folks, thirty seven thousand people.
I've got cemetery workers who are showing up making sure
that our veterans get the proper, honored burial that they deserve,
and they're working without pay. And I had a family
just the other day came in and they was wondering
are they going to be able to have their funeral?

(03:22):
And my cemetery director told that we will do stop
at nothing to make sure your veteran, your family member
is honored. That's the kind of commitment that my folks
at the BA have right now. And it's sad that
we're having to make them work without pay one hundred
percent

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero.
