Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us now is doctor Elizabeth milvad Me. I see,
I knew I was going to mess this up. Dang never,
doctor Elizabeth, welcome in, thanks for being here.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
It's okay, it's doctor me Lovy dough, but Elizabeth is
just fine me.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Lov Okay, there we go. Thank you so much. Let's
let's go, doctor Elizabeth. I love that so much better.
I love your name. I just you know, I'm an idiot,
can't pronounce it. So we know, okay, we know the
bad guys are out there. You look at roadblocks. I mean,
there's all kinds of evil lurking in the shadows. So
you've got a new parent counsel that's bringing up some
safety tools and how we can help our kids, you know,

(00:36):
avoid getting sucked into the evil. So tell us how
can we do this?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, well for sure, So first to thank you so
much for having me, And second, yes, absolutely the digital environment,
I mean, there are risk out there, but there are
tons of benefits and ways for us to connect safely
and civilly and responsibly. I mean, but the first I
would say is just not to panic so.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Much, but to really dig in there.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
But what I'm really excited about is to be the
head of parental advocacy and to start our very first
parent council. For me, this is an industry first, and
I've been in this area for oh more than fifteen
years and we've seen teen counsels and youth councils, but
here we are really going to focus on parents and caregivers.

(01:21):
And the whole idea is we want them to you know,
listen and actually want to listen and learn with them
so that way they can gain some insights about the
World Blocks platform because quite frankly, a lot of people
think it's just a game, and it's like it's a platform.
We want to talk about products and policy and we
want them to.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Learn about digital wellbeing.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
But it's not just that. We would also love to
collaborate with them to you know, have our Worldblocks internal
teams work with parents and caregivers to help co design
and share quite frankly, actionable insights on ways.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
That we can do better and be better. And I
think finally.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
The idea is that we want parents and caregivers, once
they understand what Roadblocks is and how to stay safe
online and how to keep their own kids safe online,
to go out there and educate and engage with other
parents and caregivers in their regions. Because I didn't tell
you this, but we are in Europe and in North America,
so we are really trying to bring together those forty

(02:25):
parents and caregivers and hopefully this will just be the
start and we will expand to other regions and really
have a global parent council.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Well, doctor, let me ask you this. If somebody's listening
right now of parents says yes, I want to be
a part of this. My child was affected negatively by roblots,
and there are other parents listening that say, you know what,
I'm on board with us too. I've seen the same
problems online with my young children. How do they get
involved with you?

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Well, unfortunately, the council just closed last night, the Parent Council,
But that's okay. They can still stay involved by either
going onto roadblocks, dot com, backslash Families, and there you
can see all sorts of resources, including even videos to
walk you through parental controls. But I would also like
to say that for any parent or caregiver who says

(03:11):
that their child was harmed on the platform, to realize
you know that my heart is with you, that you
know one child being harmed is one child too many,
and that's something that we work at every day to
really make sure that the platform is safe.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
We have innovative features. We're rolling out more and more.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Things because we understand that kids want to be in
the digital environment. In order to do that, we want
to make sure that they are on platforms that are
safe by design.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
All right, is there a website that they can go
to to get tips on how to stay safe in
things and actions they can do in their own home
that you can direct them to.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Well, first, I would say for things they can do
in their own home, I would use what I call
the ACE method, which is awareness, communication, and engagement. So
awareness means trying to understand what your ca they're doing
online right, understanding what is the roadblocks platform? That's a platform,
it's not.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Just a game. Then I would say communication.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
You can sit down with your children and talk to
them even as you establish parental controls and settings. You know,
have conversations about who, what, where, when and why you
are doing this. And you don't have to be a
tech expert to really parent your child in the digital age.
You just have to e stay engaged. That's what that

(04:28):
last e is for and I really think that that
parents can do all these things given that they want
what is best for their children. They can also go
and look at our website roadblocks dot Com, backslash Families,
where we have a safety center.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
They can find things on digital wellbeing.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Again, all sorts of resources are available and a big
sneak peek, we will be updating the website to make
it even more parent friendly, so you can look for
that in the next I'm going to say the next
three or four weeks.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Very good. Thank you so much, doctor Elizabeth Midleve. I
got it, didn't I you did it?

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, you nailed it all.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Right, great input. Thank you for your information this morning.
I enjoyed chatting with you. I appreciate it.
