Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us now our correspondent Evan Brown, and keeping an
eye on what's happening out there in the Halloween world.
Is Reese's cups. I'm sure he has buckets of them
waiting on the kids to come by. But some things
to think about with your kids out there, Evan, welcome in,
Thanks for being here.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Good morning. I have little bags of raisins and dates
to hang hand out the boom, A much better thing
to do. I mean, you know, this sugary stuff broughts
their teeth. Yeah, right, and you know it's time they
had some good, wholesome, nutritious thing. Yeah, so I suggest
that you know that's.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Let me tell you your front yard tomorrow morning will
be full of dates and raisins. In fact, do that.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
No no, no, no no, I patrol it with you know, sure,
my ar and all that stuff. No.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Wow, that ramped up pretty quick. There's safety tip number one.
Avoid kids now homesse.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, it's it's we really
don't get too many uh trick or treaters anymore. You know,
maybe in the like the middle of the afternoon. It's
usually like the younger parents with the really little like
like infants, and stuff right who don't know even what's
going on. I think the parents just want the candy,

(01:18):
but you know, they're they're new parents, and they're new
in the neighborhood. They're young, and they want to have
that experience, so they do that. But we really don't
get too many I'm guessing that. I don't know if
it's the same around the country, but I think people
don't do as much trick or treating with the kids
running around on their own anymore. I think there's a
lot of events, you know, you know, there's a lot

(01:41):
of that, and I think that's a great idea. You know,
we have schools and churches and synagogues that do that, yeah,
and and other community groups that do that, or maybe
like a chamber of commerce that does that kind of
thing where they have costume party and costume contests and
and you know, trunk or treat or they go around
through a gauntlet of candy and they get whatever they want.

(02:03):
Much more controlled environment. I think that's a lot safer.
You plenty of police around to keep out the people
with no kids trying to get candy, which is always
kind of creepy, and you know, maybe that's the new
face of Halloween. I just I remember as a kid,
like you know, my parents like all right, I see
you later, and I don't know, it felt like we

(02:24):
got back very late at night. It probably wasn't all
that late, but it was just very dark because I
grew up in New York and at this time of year,
you know, the son went down at four pm or something.
So we got all sorts of mischief, but no one
seemed to get killed or anything like that. We had
plenty of candy, but you know, I would be really weird.
It would be really weird to let my kid just

(02:45):
you know, all right, you know see it a five
six hours.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
You know that was me. That was me. We got
into all kinds of stuff and we had our pillowcases
as our Halloween buckets, and no we used to you know,
full pillow cases and would fill on our pathway we
can't back, and traded candy like it was you know,
baseball cards. We had a ball with it. But now,
I mean, Evan, I'm sure you've seen the stories where
needles are popping up in kit cat bars. We got

(03:09):
to be more aware of everything.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Now, yeah, I remember that as like an urban legend,
as a kid, like there were pins in the Girl
Scout cooking. You know, I don't know whatever, I never
I've never encountered that. But at the same time, if
something looked like it was opened or my parents thing,
they were just like, I eat it, it's fine. What

(03:32):
could happen? And sometimes like if the candy wrapper looked
like it was weird, like it was printed weird, it
kind of would freak me out, like maybe this is
kind of counterfeit or something. I might not not trust that,
but you know, you got to look it over. I
don't let your kids just put anything in their mouths, right,

(03:53):
you know, it's you never know.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
I'm with you. And here's the other thing too, these
homemade goodies like popcorn balls or or you know, dip
apples into some kind of caramel thing on your own. Yeah,
I'm not a fan of that either. So yeah, I
think you're right. The upticking. The festival events for kids
and controlled trunk or treat events are gaining huge popularity.

(04:16):
It's controlled, it's safe. There's other activities like you know,
food trucks and bands sometimes and kid friendly. Yeah, I
think those are really picking up. But if you are
taking your kids out yeah, check their food before they
dig in, obviously, check everything and stay with them, keep
an eye on them, obviously, don't you know. I know
a lot of parents go, we'll just go ahead, We'll
be down here hanging out with the adults. You goes

(04:38):
circle the loop and come on back and age appropriate things,
you know, some obvious things. But once again, you just
don't know what you're doing out there, you know, with
you don't know what you're going to walk into when
you go to people's homes and what they're really up
to behind closed doors. Don't go in the house, check
the kids. Candy Devin, thank you for the update, Buddy.
I appreciate it.
